I think often about a beautiful moment when I was in Indiana visiting Ship where I needed to open one of my soup cups (which is one of the only things that becomes More Difficult the longer my nails are) (plus I had a cool nail polish on and didn't want to chip it) so I brought it out into the hallway and presented it to Ship and El and Sarah, who were all clustered at the bottom of the stairs, and I was like "will one of you open this for me" and there was a long moment wherein they were all like "..." before the Chivalrous Disagreement about who got to open my soup cup began ("you should open it, you're dating Pip" "yeah but that means I get to open things for Pip all the time, YOU should do it, you don't get as many opportunities--")

Listening to Dan and Phil on Shut Up I’m Talking and man, I love how grown up they are. Like actually, literally, behaving like mature adults who talk about business and marketing and gatekeepers and long-term career choices. It feels good that they are real functioning adults and they make the content that they do, because it makes space for me/us to be real functioning adults and enjoy the content that they make.

Because they’re right; there IS a sense in society that “Dan and Phil” and “YouTube” and being “chronically online” and participating in fandom is juvenile. But guess what? Being fun and silly and weird and gay and hopeful aren’t juvenile qualities, they’re just things capitalism society doesn’t want grown-ups to express. Because being an adult is antithetical to joy, apparently.

But Dan and Phil have created a safe environment for being both grown-up and indulging in joy. Hearing them talk like mentors to younger internet folks like Tom and Jack, and hearing them speak so professionally about their careers really brings out the maturity of their content and I really appreciate that.

ros. oh my god ros. i've been on a frank mccourt kick lately and i need to talk to someone about it...my mom recommended angela's ashes to me a couple summers back and i'm more than halfway through 'tis....they never warn you about going crazy over authors cause there are so many instances where he'll kind of muse a little and it drives you crazy the way he writes it like this one bit in particular from angela’s ashes that made me want to pull my hair out the entire time about how even after being frustrated at st francis for not listening his prayers, he still loves him because that was the name given to him.

i also finished j.d. salinger's nine stories a while back and not to be that guy but. i would've been the most annoying blogger if blogs were a thing back then...anyway, what have you been reading?? i shouldn't be asking for recommendations cause i have sooo many more books to catch up on but it's fun hearing what others are reading

ive beennnnn. reading a lot of genre fiction lately ksfksdkfkd! halfway through the archive undying by emma mieko candon, which is a lush, violent, sticky mech sf that's having tons of fun playing with selfhood & beingness & worship & language... very good read.

but!!!! other than that i'm rereading moby dick my favorite book the horror novel of all time :)) what are the comprehensible terrors of man compared withe interlinked terrors and wonders of god! etc etc. + also some joseph conrad on the side... couple months ago i started black sails which put my brain in a blender (i think u would like black sails dude... even if it's not like ur usual genre i genuinely think it's just such a meticulously constructed piece of storytelling u would appreciate it.) so i've been doing a bunch of reading re: metafiction in nautical fiction in general. so of course conrad!! + ALSO today in particular some of john donne's poetry... i adore him immensely his work is so like. incandescently emotional even 500 years later it's... really compelling 2 me hhkdkfgf. anyway. hope u r doing well n having a good weekend!!! <333

terrible influence tour idea. leading up to the tour beginning there's a lot of wedding related hints being dropped. the phandom thinks it's a hard launch. but instead dan and phil become ordained ministers and at every show two people in the audience get married whether they want to or not. phan ships back
