Continuing with the ExtraTerrorestrial movie idea, I created a piece of concept art featuring the big bad alien itself.  While I tired staying close to the original design (challenging when the best view is from toys), I did make some changes like increasing the wingspan a little bit and modifying the way the limbs bend so they are more realistic.  

With a lot of what I do, I try to add some biological sense to the creatures I design.  For this one, I imagine that it comes from a planet orbiting a red dwarf star that has higher gravity (thus higher air pressure) than earth therefore not needing wings a large in order to fly.  It has characteristics of both reptiles and arthropods which a tough hide akin to large mammals and crocodilians (the exoskeleton appearance is actually folds similar to some rhinoceros species).  Armed with powerful teeth, pincers, claws, and a venomous barb on it’s tail, it would normally attack prey larger than itself from the air though it can pursue smaller prey on the ground with powerful theropod-like hind-legs.  Despite being an extremely deadly predator, its need for a though exterior suggests it is actually not at the top of it’s world food chain.

The design is still open to change but as I stated in my last post, this is largely for fun as I don’t see myself working with Disney anytime soon.
