While reading the Vox Machina modern s/o I keep wondering what would the reactions of the group be if they see dancing (Like Tap, ballet or whatever style of dance) from the modern era. Before s/o found themselves in Tal'dorei their hobby/profession was dancing? Like they hear unusual music coming from a room in Grey Skull Keep, curiosity driving their actions they decide to take a peak and see modern s/o dancing away like no one is watching. Smiling, graceful, so completely confident with their movements its like their a different person entirely. Bonus if they join in with s/o or embarrass the hell out of them with cheering XD.
This reminds me of ASTV when Gwen goes back to see Miles 😄
At first it started off as “portals” randomly appearing here and there and you randomly bumping into them
First it came across as an inconvenience because who are you? where did you come from? And what are you doing?
Sure they know dancing, but these different styles are completely new to them
You’ve dabbled a bit in the waltzes, foxtrots, hip hop, house, parts of the world, pop, and jazz
The first few times were a headache, for you and them both, trying to make sense of it all
But after a while, you get used to it. Now every other time a portal shows up your dancing serves as a distraction or point of conversation post fight
There was the one time a portal happen to open up as you were practicing free-styling. And then you noticed seven others just dancing around along with you.
Objectively they all love the slower dances with you, especially Percy and Vax. Much more intimate
And ballet outfits just flatter you so well! The frills, lace, tights and all 🩰

Hey yall! For my modern au, I have made Outfit Inspo Boards for all of VM!
First up is gonna be the ladies:) The dudes of vm will be here!
Tumblr media
Keyleth: Keyleth loves fun patterns and funky clothes, she didn't have a lot of confidence to express herself growing up, so when she moved to Emon she took a box of Vilyas old clothes (vilya dressed vaguely hippie, she told me herself) and decided to try new things:) I think it took a while for her to reach this point in her style, she had to build the confidence and throughout the years she's bought a lot of second hand stuff, locally commissioned sweaters, handmade jewelry, and sewn her own maxi skirts. And it doesn't hurt that the flow and looseness of it is sensory friendly:).
Tumblr media
Pike: Listennnn Pike works long hours and when she isn't working shes baking (and drinking) or sparring with Grog, she prioritizes being comfortable and practical. In uni her and keyleth would often go thrifting together as a way to decompress, but these days she mostly steals the graphic t-shirts straight out of Scanlans closet.
Tumblr media
Vex: Look me in the eyes and tell me she wouldn't absolutely rock low-rise jeans. exactly. you cant. Anyways Vex works outside in the wilderness a lot so she also prioritizes practicality, but still knows how to look very good while doing so. Similar to Keyleth, Vex didn't have a lot of ways to express herself growing up outside archery, so I think she takes a lot of pride in her style. plus, wink wink nudge nudge she wear he coat

November fluff prompt 18: hand holding
Una ran her thumb over her ring for the tenth time in the last hour. It was a peculiar weight on her hand, something that should have been imperceptible but drew her attention over and over. She spun it on her finger.
On the tiny dance floor, Bob and Sarah swayed to the music. Sarah laughed at swatted Bob on the chest, and some of the nervous fluttering in Una's chest eased.
"Hey." The fluttering kicked up again, but it wasn't nervous this time. Chris slid back into the chair next to hers and set two drinks on the table. He took her hand, and warmth and happiness and excitement squeezed in her chest so she almost couldn't bear it. "You okay?"
Una nodded and laid her free hand over his. His ring was hard and smooth under her hand, and warm enough that she knew he had been fiddling with it, too. He searched her face for a moment, and his eyes softened. He lifted their joined hands to his lips and pressed a kiss to the inside of her wrist.
A table away, Neera let out a bored sound of disgust. Una ignored her and kissed Chris on the cheek. He squeezed her hand, and her heart swelled.

In a modern AU where Pike and Scanlan are happily raising their kids, Juniper ends up taking an early interest in soccer. Scanlan, though he is often busy, manages to make every single game and plays the flute from the side to help give her inspiration. Meanwhile Pike, every time without fail, shows up in a jersey and cheers her on, giving her some of her favorite cookies in celebration as their afternoon wraps up. It becomes their favorite weekend tradition as they get to proudly watch their daughter improve over the years :)

i’m gonna be 100% y’all, I think the original star trek pilot (The Cage) was bad in part because Pike as a character was an asshole. Like hes not particularly compassionate or interesting he spends most of the episode being angry and brooding and then at the end he LETS VEENA STAY.

Laurence Pike - The Undreamt-of Centre - "a requiem mass for drums, electronics and choir" based on the story of Orpheus
The Undreamt-of Centre is the fourth solo album by prolific Australian drummer/composer/producer Laurence Pike, an evocative, contemporary reimagining of the requiem mass. The album draws on the sounds of modern classical music, Japanese environmental ambient music, fourth world electronics, free jazz and the choral traditions of Estonia, with particular influence from Tallinn-based composer Tonu Korvits. Produced in collaboration with the Vox Sydney Philharmonia Choir, conducted by Pike’s childhood friend, composer Sam Lipman and recorded in a 19th century Gothic church.  In memory of Tony Lake Music written and performed by Laurence Pike (copyright control): Drums, Percussion, Electronics, Piano, Synthesisers, Field recordings Choir orchestrated and conducted by Sam Lipman Vox Sydney Philharmonia Choir: Soprano - Hannah Alexander, Josephine Brereton, Amelia Myers Alto - Jasmin Borsovszky, Ines Obermair, Hannah Roberts Tenor - Josh Borja, Tom Hazell, Ezra Hersch Baritone - Finnian Murphy, Jesse van Proctor, Ziggy Harris Soloist on ‘Introit’ - Josephine Brereton I first had the thought of working with voices a number of years ago. I had the strange notion of making a requiem mass for drums, electronics and choir. It sat with me since then, until it felt the time was right to realise the idea. Why a requiem? Initially I simply liked the idea of a structural format that had existed and been reimagined again and again over hundreds of years. Ultimately, it’s a ritual set to music. The processes and ecstatic outcomes of rituals, were something I had explored in making the Holy Spring album in 2019. I became interested in subverting the religious musical construct of a requiem into something far more contemporary, using language and sounds not readily associated with it. It also seemed a ready-made vehicle to explore the sound of a choir with my electro-acoustic drum kit performances. It was the decline in health and death of my father-in-law in July 2021 which contextualised this idea for me, and I have dedicated the album to his memory. I had begun searching for a narrative structure or text that I might set a choir to, while not adhering to the text of a Latin mass. I began reading the poems of Rainer Maria Rilke, in particular his ‘Sonnets to Orpheus’, inspired by the classical Greek myth of Orpheus. Orpheus was the son of Apollo and was considered to be the greatest of all poets and musicians. His most famous myth involves the death of his beloved Eurydice, with Orpheus travelling to the underworld to make a plea to Hades to return her to life, which he grants on the condition that Orpheus can’t look back at her until they have returned to the realm of the living. As they reach the exit from the underworld and fearing he’d been tricked, Orpheus turns back to see her and she disappears forever. There suddenly seemed to me to be a convergence of thought between this myth (its rumination on mortality, acceptance, the human soul and our inability to control universal forces), my recent experiences, and the idea of a requiem – a musical ritual to mark the transition from life to death and beyond.

⭐️ Star ⭐️
Oh! Thank you so much for this opportunity, @divinemissem13! 💕
For the “fanfic director’s cut” meme, I want to talk about Your Voice Takes Me Home, a Pikeuna one-shot that’s about going home to someone we love at the end of a long day. It’s also about the history of:
Star Trek
feminism/women in the workplace
telephony
women’s fashion
the light bulb
Okay, so, yeah. A lot is going on here. The story is a modern AU in which Una calls Chris to let him know she’s leaving work to come home to him … through the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s. In other words, every decade from the filming of “The Cage” (when Una says she’s on her way) until the premiere of Strange New Worlds (when she finally gets home to Chris). The rectangular lit-up train station Chris reaches in the 2010s (that Una has been in before) symbolizes Chris as a main character in Star Trek: Discovery (while Una guest stars a few times). The “box of light” that is the garage of their home symbolizes both of them as main characters in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. (I figure their appearances in Short Treks work between those two.)
I’ve had people ask me, within the universe of the story, what’s up with the slip-sliding through time, if Chris and Una are immortal beings or stuck in some sort of temporal punishment or what. The answer in my head is that every decade has a Chris and Una. Every decade has their togetherness and their kindness toward each other and their gentle love — a connection forged in the 1960s and back on our TV screens in the 2020s. The Chrisses and the Unas all love each other and all get home to each other safely, in every decade. We only get to see them reunite in the 2020s, but they always make it home to each other because that’s what everyone should have — safety at home, whether that’s with another person or a pet or a plant or peace and quiet or joyful chaos. What Chris and Una want — and get — should be universal: home. (Kathryn Janeway has entered the chat.)
Research for this story was wild. I had to find out how car phones worked. I needed to know what emoji were available in the 2010s. I looked up professions popular for women in each decade, when LED light bulbs began, what typewriter covers were made of, and so much more. The location of the story is purposefully left amorphous so Chris and Una are more relatable, but I picture their house in Long Island, New York.
Things I think about often: Chris lovingly scolding Una for texting and driving, Una’s clothing in each decade, the sweep of Una’s headlights as she turns from the street into the driveway, the horseshoe on their home as a testament to Chris standing up to his dad.
I worked really hard on sensory details — the teacher’s lounge sofa that sighs a cigarette smoke smell, the tick-tack sound of Una’s turn signal, the rubbery buttons on the plastic car phone, the rushing river of white of perpendicular traffic in the night.
It also was important to me that Chris’ moods affect Una because I think that happens in canon … and when people love each other.
Anyway, I feel like this is a “simple” story about going home, but also a meta commentary that touches on a lot of things that are important to me.
So, yeah. Your Voice Takes Me Home. Thank you again for giving me a chance to talk about this one, @divinemissem13 — it means a lot to me. ❤️
