Dragon Age Inquisition!Voltron AU
@bluelioncub and I have been screaming at each other because of this Dragon Age Inquisition AU. We've got a hodge-pod plan to do some one-shots on all this, as well as maybe a few for Dragon Age Origins. Here's a bit of a teaser for what's to come (hopefully you're not all waiting too long) in the form of character headcanons!
Shiro:
The one who stepped out of the fade.  The rumor going around after he got out was that Andraste kissed his head, turning his bangs white, and took his hand to guide him out, which gave him the Mark.
Trevelyan backstory:  Was training to be a Templar, and spent a few years traveling around Thedas as a personal training mission.  Spent some time in the Southern part of Nevarra helping his cousin Sven defend the ports from Pirates and bandits, thus earning him a bit of fame.
Legitimately wants to do good in the world.  Josephine is so happy, he basically does all the work for her.
His one true wish in life is to have a Mabari pupper.
At the start of his part in the Inquisition, he believed that the Circles were a good thing and that they served a very definite purpose.  Not to say that he believed that the Templars were doing things the right way in the Circles, but more that he had slightly blinded views of how good things actually were for the Mages.  Over the course of his time as the Herald and later the Inquisitor, he realized slowly that things were NOT as they seemed, and made it a personal mission to try and change things – for the Mages and the Templars both.
Chose to recruit the Templars.  More on that later. ;)
Seriously this boy just wants to help everyone, Leliana finds it simultaneously unrealistic and adorable.
Best friends with Cullen.
Best.  Friends.
Seriously these two are so alike and get each other so well it’s insane.
Cullen also shares with Shiro his stories about how things actually were in the Circles, and that helps in Shiro’s view of things.
Actually doesn’t mind the Hinterlands.  This earns him the ire of all his Inner Circle.
Keith
Joined the Seekers ASAP
He was actually left on the doorstep as a baby of the Seekers.  He was raised by them (mostly because no one person knew how to raise him by themselves.  “It takes a Village” was never more true…)
Even growing up with the Seekers he thought there was a small unit of them that went out and hunted for Cryptids.
He was so disappointed when he actually became a Seeker and found out no such unit.
(He plans on starting that Unit.)
Trained under Seeker Cassandra Penteghast.  Turns out he’s one of the only ones who doesn’t really care that TECHINICALLY she’s part of the Navarran royal family.
He also adopted her taste in trashy romance novels.
He actually met Shiro when he was younger and. Very angry.  His advise of “Patience Yields Focus” helped him in his career as a Seeker.
Up until Cassandra goes all “I see a problem and I fix it” on him and welp, conflicting advise.  (This is the Keith we all know and love.)
Will fight all the bears.  All of them.  Single-handedly and unarmed.
Honestly he doesn’t care about where you come from or why just so long as you are there to help.  That’s it.
“Shiro if you take me on another bull-crap mission into the Hinterlands, I swear to the MAKER – “
Pidge
City Elf!
Actually comes Denerim, but the family moved to Orlais.  She worked very hard to NOT pick up the accent.
Joined the Red Jennies a few months before the Conclave exploded – her brother Matt went missing, and when no one of actual authority would help the “Knife Ear”, she decided to find another market of information.  Her work with the Red Jennies eventually got her the information that her brother was taken by a mysterious group known as the Venatori – and they were bigger than the Red Jennies could handle.  Luckily, the Inquisition was forming…
Has a very irrational hate of magic.  Not of Mages, of MAGIC.  There’s a difference.
Smartest cookie this side of everything.  Makes very fast friends with the Alchemist of the Inquistion and with Dagna.
…Maybe a bit more than friends with Dagna.
The first time she stepped foot in the Emerald Graves she wanted to climb all the trees – seriously, she’d NEVER seen trees so big.
Turns out that the Red Jenny information network is more complex than Leliana’s, who knew
Does she lord this over Leliana?  Yes.  Pidge is probably the only person in all of Thedas that doesn’t have a healthy fear of Leliana.
Very Viscious Prank Master.  Do not mess with her unless you want bees somewhere very unpleasant.
Was VERY SURPRISED when she found out that Shiro knew Matt.
It took Shiro a while to figure it out because Pidge only started going by Pidge after joining up with the Red Jennies – Matt would always talk about his sister Katie.
“WHAT THE WHAT YOU KNEW MY BROTHER!?”
“I will throw this bottle of bees at you, Shiro, don’t you DARE say we’re going to the Hinterlands – “
Lance
Mage from Tevinter!
Pariah of Tevinter – but due to plot can’t go too far into that.  ;)
HAS THE BIGGEST CRUSH ON SHIRO.  Followed Shiro’s adventures around Thedas as all the stories hit the news and developed a big Hero Crush on him.
Can’t tell you what they might’ve been talking about during the last serious meeting between the War Council and the Inner Circle but can tell you every single detail about the Pirate Battle of the 15th Ferventis 9:31 on docks of Cumberland down to the weather.  This comes up entirely by accident when Josephine is asking Shiro about some of his exploits and Lance just…starts rattling off facts.
He was very embarrassed.
Really truly cares about Tevinter.  He’s honestly a bit conflicted about fighting his fellow country men, but his belief in what the Inquisition is doing is stronger than his confliction.  If he has a chance to try and talk to a Venatori instead of burst them into flames, though, he’ll take it.
Has a tendency to Fade Step when startled.
Like the warm rain of Northern Tevinter, not the cold, freezing rain of Fereldan, Keith, there’s a DIFFERNCE.
Took on all the bandits by himself in Crestwood for the promise of a warm bath.
When he came to Haven to warn them of the Venatori Mages marching, he barely got the warning out before near-fainting in Shiro’s arms.  Near-fainting because Lance managed to squint an eye open and squeeze out a “Hey, are you my big buff savior? *wink*”
“Not the Hinterlands, not the Hinterlands, not the Hinterlands – *it’s the Hinterlands*  *unholy screeching*”
Hunk
Qunari Warrior!
He’s actually pretty terrible at lying, but he’s reeeeeeally good at eavesdropping.  So that’s how he ends up as a Hisrad wandering around Southern Thedas.
Came to Spy, Stayed for the Food.
At least, that’s the joke he tells Shiro when he joins up with the Inquisition.  Honestly, after being away from the Qun for so long, he’s starting to see things from different perspectives than what he grew up with, and it’s…starting to get to him.
Has a small Mercenary Guild!  The Yellow Lions.  (He really likes those big cats, okay?)  His main team:  Rax, an Avvar Warrior; Shay, Rax’ half sister who has excellent control of magic but doesn’t call it magic; Nyma, an Elven Rouge that was abandoned by her Clan; Rolo, yet another Elven Rouge but from the City; and Beezer, the Dwarf who doesn’t talk but is great with Alchemy (specifically: BOMBS).
Lance gave him the nickname Hunk and it just…kinda stuck.  Eventually he stopped trying to correct people on it and that was that, he was Hunk, end of story.
Actually really, really smart and a fantastic engineer.  Happened to walk by when Cullen, Shiro, and Leliana were discussing how to make changes to Skyhold to be more defensible and he started rattling off a bunch of calculations on which areas would be best for renovations.
This led to an in-depth conversation that revealed how much Hunk knew about engineering specific weapons and within the week he became to go-to person to speak with about new designs for arms and weaponry.  Gives Bianca a run for her money.
A few times literally.
He and Keith entered into the most uncomplicated relationship.  It basically amounted to:  “Hey you wanna be a thing?” “Sure, let’s be a thing.” And that was that.
Is probably the most un-Qunari like Qunari that ever Qunaried until there’s a dragon involved.
“Boss, I know you like doing things for the people in the Hinterlands but I’m starting to think I might be allergic to, well, ALL OF THE HINTERLANDS.”
Allura
Fanciest Maker-damned Apostate Elvhen Hobo
Like, she doesn’t even really have much in the way of personal belongings but what she has she makes SPARKLE.
Not an Egg.
Legitimately sad that the Elves of today have fallen to what they are; she attempts to lecture everyone about the way things should be.  (Much nicer about it than an Egg ever would be.)
Honestly stayed with the Inquisition not because of the Anchor and what it could do, but because she’s grown attached to the members of the Inner Circle.
Cried by herself when she realized how much she loved these silly, ridiculous people that surround her, and what that might mean for her plans for the future…
Has a weakness for all the mice in Skyhold.
“I can hear them talk to me.”  No one knows if they should take her seriously or not.  She does, after all, regularly walk through the fade on purpose.
I repeat:  NOT AN EGG.
Takes tea with Josephine and Leliana to talk fashion every once in a while.  Vivienne de Fer took some doing to get her to join them for Tea – Vivienne didn’t have the best first impression of her, what with Allura being an Apostate..  But when Allura starts talking about fashion, well.  Vivienne can put aside their differences to talk about the latest trends in boots and skirts.
“*silently threatens Shiro with fire when Shiro mentions going to the Hinterlands*”
Slav (THAT’S RIGHT, SLAV)
The Spirit in the form of a young man that saves Shiro from the Envy demon at Therinfal Redoubt.
(I’ll post a drawing of him later when I have time, it’s actually adorable)
Capable of seeing many realities and uses the ones with the highest “frequency” to decide on a course of action.  Prefers the realities that involve the least amount of violence, but what needs must.
Shiro eventually teaches Slav to try and see around the most “frequent” violent realities and try to reach for the ones that lead to less violent.  It takes some doing, since Slav is…Slav, but he gets there.
Eventually.
When scared will puff out of existence.
This happens a lot.
“Slav, what are you doing.”  “In 72% of realities the fluffiness of these pillows will determine whether or not our Commander Cullen gets a headcold.”  “…”
He is not invited to play cards anymore because most people think he’s cheating.  Shiro and Allura assure everyone that he isn’t, he’s not that type of person.
He is.
Once got into a theoretical scientific debate with Hunk, Pidge, and Dagna about…something.
No one is really sure what, since most of it was spoken in pure numbers.
Every time Shiro approaches him about a trip to the Hinterlands he just disappears.

97, Dag and Eira? :D
Well, this took me a while! But I'm trying to get through some old prompts, so here we go!
"So, how should we break the news that they’re going to have a new baby brother or sister?"
As dessert was being served, Eira felt the burning in the back of her throat. She'd been feeling uncomfortable all throughout dinner, but it came to a culmination as Alarik served up the pie. She excused herself, rushing to the upstairs bathroom, flinging open the toilet seat second before she emptied the contents of her stomach.
Eira pressed her head against the cool porcelain as she panted, willing her roiling stomach to calm. Footsteps sounded outside the bathroom door, followed by a soft knock.
"I'll be just a minute, Dag!" Eira winced at the shaky tone in her voice- she knew he would already be worrying enough. She started to get up, but her stomach rebelled, and she flung herself back over the bowl, vomiting.
The door opened and she flinched, preparing herself to try to deal with a panicked Dag while being sick. Instead, a pair of cool hands brushed the stray locks of hair from her forehead, holding them back until Eria could sit up again.
"Here." Elsa passed a few tissues, and Eira wiped her mouth. There was the sound of running water, and a cup was pressed into her hands.
"Alarik and the boys are keeping Dag distracted." Elsa continued as Eira took a tentative sip of water. "Was it something you ate? I'm so sorry, I thought I had checked…"
"No, it wasn't the food Mom. I've been feeling… off for the past few weeks." Eira pushed away from the toilet, thankful that her stomach was calming, at least for the moment. She stared into the cup, aimlessly swirling the water, trying to figure out what to say next. Or, more importantly, how to say it.
Because, despite it having been over a decade since she'd last experienced these particular symptoms, along with others she'd observed, Eira knew what was going on.
And by the look on Elsa's face, she had figured it out as well.
"I think it's time for me to get a pregnancy test."
……..
Dag was with her when she took the test.
Tests.
"You know I don't need to take ten tests, right?" Eira lifted a brow as she took in the neat row of boxes that greeted her on the counter.
They'd both taken the day off work- with the boys in school, it would give them time to process whichever result was given.
Dag blushed, his whole face a bright scarlet. "I… I just wanted to make sure…" He wrung his hands- a motion reminiscent of his mother.
Eira smiled, reaching over to cup her hands around his. "It's alright, dear. I know you're concerned. I'll take three, and would you make me some tea?" Dag did best when given a task.
Minutes later, Eira emerged from the bathroom, placing the sticks on a paper towel and setting her phone's timer. Dag offered her a mug, and she took it. He lifted his own cup, and she caught the unmistakable aroma of coffee. Eira scoffed.
"Oh, that'll really calm you down."
"You know I can't stand tea. Besides, it's decaf."
She shook her head and found his hands, twining their fingers together. They sat for several seconds in silence, watching the timer. Dag was the first to speak.
"Remember the first time we did this?"
Eira snorted. "How could I forget? I almost regretted not having it done in a clinic- I was more worried you'd pass out than if I was pregnant!"
"Hey, you know I don't do well under pressure!"
Before Eira could respond, she was interrupted by the timer's beeping. They glanced at one another, then stood and walked over to where the tests lay.
"So," Eira said as they stared at the sticks. "How should we break the news that they’re going to have a new baby brother or sister?"
……….
"You're pregnant!? But Mom, you're ol-"
"I'm thirty-eight Agnar, not dead." Eira glared at her oldest, and he sank back into the couch with a grumble. Harald and Charles snorted, and Angnar half-rose.
"That's enough." Eira pushed between them, placing a hand on Agnar's shoulder. "Look, I know it's not the easiest news to take in, but yes, you're going to have a new sibling."
Dag sat so he was facing all of them. "That doesn't mean we won't love you any less. But the house will be… busier. Your mom and I will have to spend a lot of time taking care of the baby. But you all are still our children, and we will spend time with you. We have to ask you to be ready to make changes."
"Grandma and Grandpa, Aunt Anna, Uncle Alarik, Aunt Neta, Uncle Nikolai, and even Aunt Jenny will be here to help." Eira added.
A long silence followed, and Eira swallowed hard. Their boys' faces were inscrutable, and she braced herself for an outburst.
"I'll help too!" Charles said, his chin sticking out. He looked at Agnar and Harald, and after a moment, the two of them nodded.
"We'll all help." Harald stated.
"It's what big brothers do." Angar said softly.
………….
Several months later….
"One more push, Pidge. Just one more. You've got this."
Eira bared her teeth and arched her head against the flimsy hospital pillow. A low groan escaped her lips as she bore down, feeling the familiar burn and pressure below. She gripped Dag's hand, hearing his quick intake of breath, but he said nothing. Eira seized the last of her strength and pushed, pushed until everything slid away, the pain easing.
A gurgling wail filled the air, and seconds later, Dag took the newborn from the nurse and laid them on her chest, the warm weight wonderfully familiar even after ten years. Eira wrapped her arms around the baby, tears forming in her eyes.
"Hi there, little one."
The baby's skin was streaked white and red, skull misshapen from the birth canal, but Eira found them perfect, absolutely perfect. Dag came over with a towel, draping it over the infant with a murmured "Best keep her warm."
The ordeal of birth made her brain slow and foggy, and it took Eira a moment to process what Dag said.
"Wait… her?"
Dag grinned-his father's grin that stretched nearly the length of his face- and took her hand. "Her. We have a daughter."

The ‘someone’ Patton wanted Virgil to meet turned out to be… a weirdo. At least if you asked Virgil.
“Do you how do Virgil? I’m Emile Picani, they and them pronouns today please!”
“Was, was that a cartoon reference? SpongeBob?” Oh it was taking all of Virgil’s willpower to not run out of the office right away, but Patton trusted this person so Virgil supposed he would give them a chance.
The therapist laughed. “Sure was, pal. Now, shall we get started? I know that Patton sent you here because of some… less then fortunate experiences… but that is also all that he told me. Maybe we can first start with you telling a little bit about yourself,”
Virgil shrugged. Sure, easy enough. If you actually knew what to tell about yourself.
“Honestly, I don’t really know what there is to tell doc. Started in Florida, mom was upset with me, and now I am here. That is… basically it”
Emile nodded. “And your mom was upset with you in a ‘nightmare Rose Quartz and Steven’ kinda way? Or more like ‘Mom I am a girl not a robot’?”
Complete lunatic, Virgil thought. But at least they know some quality cartoons.
“The one from Life as a Teenage Robot, but then instead from robot to girl it went from girl to boy I guess,”
“Yeah, Patton told me that you are female to male transgender and that your mom doesn’t accept of you, although the professor did eventually accept Jenny as a girl. Do you think your mom will be able to do that for you to, but then as you being a boy I mean,”
Virgil lets out a small chuckle. “You know, I wish I could say yes. I wish I could say that she just needs time to accept it or something, but I know that’s not true. She will never accept me as long as I don’t fit into her picture of a perfect daughter. And that hurts. I am angry at her for being so… narrowminded, but I am also so sad because she is my mom, and she did so much for me and I want to do good things for her back. She loves me, I think, and that she is doing this to help me. At least that is what she said when she dropped me off at the airport,” The therapist plastered on a sad grin. “Virge, I hope you don’t mind me calling you Virge, this might be really brutal to hear, but that isn’t love. Love is accepting someone for who they are. Love is supporting another unconditionally. That is not what your mother is doing. Your mother, she loves the ‘picture perfect daughter’ idea of you, like you said it. And when you don’t fit in that picture, she will do anything to make you fit into it again, even hurting you like she is now,”
A heavy silence settled over the room. Emile looked quite sad, a big difference with how cheery he was just a few minutes ago, but Virgil didn’t notice any of that. It was, weird to hear that from someone else. And some part of his brain, the insecure part, screamed at him that these were all lies. He owed it to his mother to be perfect… to be normal, he was already enough of a burden with his anxiety and his depressive episodes.
“Virgil, you aren’t a burden,”
Great, Virgil thought, he said that out loud…
“I am” he responds. “I am a inconvenience to my mom for… being who I am I guess. I am burdening Patton by being dropped off to his doorstep all of the sudden. I… I am a burden to a lot of people…”
Tears are threatening to escape Virgil’s eyes. He hates being so vulnerable, and he usually never is in front of someone he barely even knows, but Emile… Virgil doesn’t really know what it is but they just radiates trust and kindness, and that combination somehow makes everything spill out what he had been holding on. It is scary, but also kind of relieving.
“Virgil, I know you won’t believe me right now but I hope you will in time, but you are not a burden. Patton loves having you here, I have a phone full of emoji’s to prove it. If you think you are burdening me, that’s not true because this is my job, and I want to help you. And your mom, she is just plain wrong, and I shouldn’t admit this as a therapist but I am ready to punch a bitch,”
The last words were so unexpected to Virgil that he suddenly started giggling, to shocked to do anything about it.
“Doc, I didn’t think that you’d be able to swear at all,” he said while laughing
Emile looked a bit sheepish
“I am afraid my husband has a bad influence on me, but I wouldn’t trade him for anything in the world. Even if he keeps up his habit of drinking coffee to stay awake until he collapses,” they smirked.
“That… can’t be healthy,” Virgil said
“It isn’t, but it is more dangerous to keep him from his caffeine. Trust me, I’ve tried,”
“How did that turn out?”
Emile laughs “Hey, we are here to talk about you, not my disaster of a husband!”
“I heard that babe!” a voice called out from the hallway, and Emile immediately turned a bright red
“Speak of the devil and he shall appear I guess” they whispered under their breath. “Remy, what are you doing here? I am in the middle of an appointment.”
“Sorry to break it to ya sugar cube, but you were supposed to finish fifteen minutes ago, and it is date night so I wanted to pick you up,” Remy answered, slightly shoving down his sunglasses to send a look at the therapist.
Emile looks at the clock, and immediately looked back at their husband with a smile.
“Guess I forgot the time there for a moment, Virgil and I were having quite a good conversation,” they say. Virgil hums in agreement, still taking in the doc’s apparent husband in. He seemed… nice. Weird, that is for sure, but nice.
“Ah,” Remy speaks up, “You must be Virgil, Patton’s nephew. Sorry for not introducing myself right away, but by hearing what you guys were saying I think you already know enough about me, don’t you?” he says with a wink. Virgil gave him a half smile back. Sue him, but speaking to people (who are apparently not Emile or Patton) is still not one of his strong suits.
“Welp, it was nice meeting you Virge!” Remy continues, seemingly not bothered by the lack of response. “Is it okay if I steal Emile from you now? I have a surprise for them planned that may or may not involve lots of Adventure time and bacon pancakes”
“Ehm, yeah, sure. Have fun!” Virgil answered. They all stood up to walk out of the exit, while Remy still talked on about the not-so surprise anymore. When he saw Patton’s car standing on the parking lot, he bid both Remy and Emile farewell and quickly opened the door to the passenger seat.
“So,” Patton starts after driving onto the road, “How was it?”
Virgil thought for a moment before answering,
“Good, It was good…”

Song explanations under the cut!
First I’d like to clarify: I’m not insane. I’m just a huge ass dork for this fic. (For a lot of things, really, but irrelevant.) HaaH is one of my favorite written works ever, fanfiction or not, so I really, truly should not have been surprised that this playlist ended up being so much longer than I meant for it to be, and it probably could’ve been even longer if I’d let myself keep going. In my defense, I can’t art, so this is one of my only ways to show my appreciation.
Anyways, I’m not gonna wax poetics about how much I love this story because we would be here all day and this post is too long as it is, so down to business: this playlist is very loosely structured. It’s hard to give the songs a significant order when only a few correspond to specific moments or lines; most of them I chose to focus more on bigger picture themes and concepts from the story. So the order isn’t that important, I just organized them so they’d transition relatively smoothly sound-wise and tried to keep similar concepts together. Additionally, I did use both quotes from the fic and the songs in some of my explanations, so fic quotes are bolded and song lyrics are in italics. Some of these are short, some are a bit longer, some are just the quotes because I didn’t feel the need to explain further, but hopefully all of them give a good idea of why I chose the song. I thought about just posting the playlist by itself, but I felt weird not explaining the thinking behind it, so uh, here it is I guess?
1) The Chain - Fleetwood Mac: The best song in existence. Objectively speaking, of course. The first time I heard this while thinking of HaaH though, it just fit so well, and I haven’t really been able to un-associate the two since. (Not that I want to lol) It just has such a desert vibe to it that matches with the story, and I think it represents Keith’s desperation to avoid rejection from the team so well. It’s like...if I were to picture a trailer for HaaH, this is the song I would hear in the background, y’know?
2) Sorrow - The National: This one’s a bit of a weird one because I can’t quite put into words why this is on here. Like, I added it back when I was just throwing some songs together for background atmosphere while reading HaaH, but when I was working to make this into something more thought out, I couldn’t bring myself to take this song off. So here it is, I guess.
3) Nothing’s Gonna Hurt You Baby - Cigarettes After Sex: This one is here more for its sound and atmosphere, not really the lyrics. It just sounds like...nostalgia, I guess. Like it’s supposed to be reminiscing about something comforting, but it’s not quite there because the pain of the present is keeping you rooted. The way I hear it, it’s like Keith is thinking about his mom and her love and comfort, but it’s tainted by the loss of all of that. (I might be slightly insane. I’ve come to terms with that.)
4) Child I Will Hurt You - Crystal Castles: I don’t know how else to phrase this so I’m just gonna say it: this song gives me the heebie jeebies, just like Keith’s flashbacks to his earlier times with the Garrison. I swear, every time he says replacement mother or father it gives me chills. Or makes me want to cry a bit. It just feels so wrong, and that’s why I picked this song, ‘cause it gives me the same feeling. The music is so soft, like it was supposed to be a lullaby, but the lyrics and the feeling underneath is...disturbing. Plus, “Hide all that you could / Done for the greater good / It’s later understood” reminds me all too well of the Garrison scientists and what they did to Keith.
5) Constant Craving - The Cat and Owl: So while I was searching for songs to add, it suddenly occurred to me that despite the fact that one of Keith’s major problems is that he can’t put his thoughts and feelings into words properly, every single song I’d added did exactly that. And so began my search for some instrumental songs that unfortunately only turned up this one, mostly because I realized this playlist was getting far too long lol. Though now that I’ve thought about it, an all instrumental HaaH playlist would be an interesting challenge. Hm. I already knew I wanted to add Constant Craving as a sort of representation for Keith’s own craving for love, acceptance, and family, but when I heard this version I knew it was right. Keith knows he desperately needs all these things, but he can’t put it into words, can’t communicate it right. It’s made even better by how well known the original song is, because you can feel the familiarity in it, feel what’s missing and what should be there, but it’s different at the same time, like that absence has created something strange, something off-kilter from what it should have been. Plus it’s sorta a lullaby version, which I like since Keith’s childhood is an often reoccurring topic.
6) Run Boy Run - Woodkid: Seems to me like there’s a lot of shit Keith’s been running from. (also...running makes me think of “escaped from the Garrison”. Escaped. Escaped. ESCAPED.)
7) Female Robbery - The Neighbourhood: There’s some really fucked up stuff in Keith’s past in addition to the whole Galra thing, and he really does not want the team to find out any of it. This song makes me think a lot about that.
8) Sleepsong - Bastille: “You go to sleep on your own / And you wake each day with your thoughts / And it scares you being alone, it's a last resort” & “All you want is someone onto whom you can cling / Your mother warned of strangers and the dangers they may bring / Your dreams and memories are blurring into one / The scenes which hold the waking world slowly come undone.” ...yeah.
9) Small Things - Ben Howard: Another song that’s on here more for the sound than the lyrics, though the lyrics could possibly fit. I just love the dreamy, suspended feeling that this song exudes and how well it fits with the feeling that Keith’s flashbacks and memories give me.
10) Iron - Woodkid: “But Keith was gone—every reflex retuned for battle, every nerve sparking under his skin, and all there was fight, win, refuse to be killed.“ - “I'm waiting for the call, the hand on the chest / I'm ready for the fight, and fate” So the lyrics don’t *exactly* match up, but the underlying themes are there, I think, and the atmosphere of this one was more important to me anyways. The intensity of it just screams fighting and death and red to me.
11) Greens of June - Neko Case, k.d. lang, Laura Veirs: “Just in the moment / Everything's changed / My dark disposition / Has been rearranged” The arrival of the kids is certainly not a very happy time considering the circumstances, but it brought a change that Keith desperately needed, one that will hopefully help him actually be happy. (My other reason for choosing this song is, for whatever reason, it also gives me desert vibes.)
12) Mars - Sleeping at Last: “We let the end goal blind us to the means. We’ll have to re-evaluate before we take on any more missions. If violence is our go-to method of beating the enemy, we’re no better than the empire ourselves.” -  "Lay your weapons down! / They're calling off the war / On account of losing track / Of what we're fighting for." The team has taken up an immense and necessary duty to protect the universe, but that doesn’t mean they don’t get caught up in the grey areas of war, and it doesn’t mean they get to come home without scars.
13) Iscariot - WALK THE MOON: Broganes, anyone? For real though, this song is about betrayal between two people who are essentially brothers (specifically Jesus and Judas but I didn’t pick it for the religious references). While I don’t think Shiro is gonna see Keith being Galra and hiding it as a personal betrayal, Keith clearly does. “How long did he have left before…Before Lance said he’d known all along there was something wrong with Keith, before Pidge threw his hypocrisy back in his face: no secrets between paladins, huh? Before Allura turned her back on him. Before Shiro couldn’t, and Keith had to meet his eyes, watch betrayal dawn white-star bright and burning.” Ah. That sweet, terrible angst.
14) Human - Daughter: “Underneath the skin there's a human / Buried deep within there's a human / And despite everything I'm still human / But I think I'm dying here.” I think this song works on two levels. One, you can take “human” to be quite literal and interpret it as Keith’s desperation to hide his Galra heritage and keep pretending that he’s entirely human, even though it clearly has awful emotional repercussions for him. Two, you can look at “human” with a metaphorical lens to talk about how even though Keith seems like a cold tough guy on the surface, underneath that is a complicated mess of emotions and trauma, and not being able to properly deal with all of that is killing him.
15) Body - Mother Mother: One of the things about HaaH that I find most interesting is Keith’s relationship with his body. Between the whole Galra form vs human form, the fact that his human form is not how he was born, and everything that the Garrison did to him...it’s a goddamn mess. Hence, this song. can I please give this boy a hug
16) I Come With Knives - IAMX: First and foremost, I had to include this song for the irony, because Keith did, in fact, come with a knife. However, I also included it because I really like how on the surface, it can be written off as just another angsty emo song, but if you take the time to really listen to it, it’s filled with genuine emotion and hurt. (Almost like a certain knife-wielding alien boy I know...)
17) All These Things That I’ve Done - The Killers: I have a few different reasons for why this song is here, but the main one is pretty much “I got soul, but I’m not a soldier”. I mean...yeah. That screams Keith to me. He’s driven and angry and passionate and willing to fight so hard to protect the people he loves, but...that doesn’t mean he’s emotionally okay with being a soldier, even if the rest of the team seems to think otherwise.
18) An Angry Blade - Iron & Wine: Another one that immediately earned points for Keith irony in the title. Seriously though, I love the tone of this song for Keith. It’s got desert vibes to it, and maybe it’s just because my hearing isn’t fantastic, but I like that the lyrics are a bit hard to make out. You really have to listen. (Again, almost like...hmm...) Plus: “You’re an angry blade and you’re brave / But you’re all alone”
19) All the Stars - The Wailin’ Jennys: I swear I didn’t just pick this for the title. It was a little bit for the title though, sue me. Nope, it was more for “So open wide your wounded heart / Feel yourself be blown apart” because for the love of god, Keith, please open up a bit more to the people around you. On a more serious note, I was also struck by “You don’t know me / You know one side of a story” because it’s true for both Keith and his mother. The Keith part is obvious--the team, with the exception of Shiro, only really sees the Keith that’s on the surface. But it’s kinda true for Keith and his mom too, right? He’s missing so much information because of his spotty memories. Up until the kids arrived, it seems like he didn’t even consider the idea that she might be, y’know, not evil. So...yeah. Also “All the stars in the sky / Say goodbye say goodbye” because I didn’t need my heart, it’s fine, it’s okay, I’m not crying over a fictional character and the death of his alien mother, there’s just dirt in my eyes--
20) I’ll Be Good - Jaymes Young: “But if there was a way to stop the blood flowing down his glove, the sound a sword made when it struck bone, the way her breath came in pieces between the shocks her sobs, then he definitely would have... “ - “I've been cold, I've been merciless / But the blood on my hands scares me to death / Maybe I'm waking up today”
21) Slow Wake Up Sunday Morning - Mountain Man: “It's lucid dreaming; he knew it wasn't real, not anymore, but still he couldn't focus his eyes, couldn't see past the fall of her hair in the pale morning light...” - “The light / It moves / Across this room / Like it could reach us, honey” & “We are already there, it seems / (I know I can't stay in this place)” I don’t quite know how to explain why I connected this song with this moment beyond the whole early morning thing but...this moment was an especially emotional one for me. It felt like something Keith wanted to hold on to, wanted to go back to, but just like the sun continues rising, the world keeps moving, regardless of whether we want it to or not.
22) Someone to Stay - Vancouver Sleep Clinic: “You were alone left out in the cold / Clinging to the ruin of your broken home / Too lost and hurting to carry your load / We all need someone to hold” I just...yeah. There’s not much I need to say about this one. Just Keith and the kids, man.
23) It’s Alright - Mother Mother: Whenever I listen to this song, I feel like I’m getting a hug. Since I cannot project myself into fictional stories and hug the characters myself, I instead gift this song to Keith. Please, someone give this boy more hugs. Please.
24) This is Home - Cavetown: “Get a load of this monster / He doesn't know how to communicate / His mind is in a different place / Will everybody please give him a little bit of space / Get a load of this trainwreck / His hair's a mess and he doesn't know who he is yet / But little do we know the stars welcome him with open arms / Oh / Time is / Slowly / Tracing his face / But strangely he feels at home in this place.” <3
This got way too long, so to anyone who actually made it through all of that, I sincerely apologize. >.<

mk so i had a prompt idea a few days ago, and i was wondering if you could write about lances hair after he died, like it doesn’t even have to be angsty(it can tho, i love me some good angst) but just like him realizing that it’s turning white and freaking out, and trying to hide it from the team. and maybe after they find out one of the paladins teaches him to dye his hair or helps lance accept it, i dunno. i tried writing it earlier but i wanna see someone else run with it
I hope you enjoy! 💙
“What the crow,” he mumbled peering into the mirror in his bathroom. He pulled his hair back and to the side, hoping he wasn’t actually seeing what he thought he was.
“Oh hell no,” he shook his head, backing away from the mirror and pulling his helmet back on. He grumbled as he stomped back to his pilot seat and slumped back against it. He had seen that he was gradually growing in white hair but when he woke up that morning, his entire head was lacking pigment.
He wasn’t exactly surprised about it what with all the stress, combined with Allura’s altean magic. Not to mention the fact that Shiro’s also gone silver fox after a run in with Allura’s magic. At least he can pull it off though. He just looks like a kid playing an old person in a play or something.
He was glad that it was his turn to be alone in Red this time and he could have his mini freakout alone.
“Are you back yet Lance? We’re on to naming our first dates,” Hunk suddenly said. He let out a short squeak and took in a quick panicked breath.
“Whoa, are you okay?” He asked in concern, popping up on the dash. Lance pouted but nodded. “Is there something wrong?”
“No, I’m fine. Just bored,” he muttered, looking away from the monitor.
“Tell us about your first date with Jenny!” Hunk yelled, throwing his face towards the monitor.
“Ugh, no,” Lance groaned.
“Oh come on! Keith told us about his first date!” Hunk pleaded, gesturing towards Keith’s face on his dashboard.
“What? Really? Anything interesting?” He asked, suddenly intrigued. Keith rolled his eyes and looked away while everyone else burst into laughter.
“Oh man! You know that James Griffin guy? He asked Keith out and he didn’t know it was a date!” Hunk laughed, collapsing back against his chair.
“What? How?” Lance laughed, looking over at Keith.
“How was I supposed to know he wanted an actual date!? We’re rivals, we hate each other!” He defended himself.
“Hmm, sounds like someone else I know,” Pidge teased gaining a groan from both Keith and Lance.
“Yeah, but I actually hate Griffin. He’s a piece of shit,” Keith
“Point taken,”
“Team, we’re coming up on the market planet, prepare to land,” Allura said over the coms.
They were each given a small allowance to buy whatever they wanted; Lance’s eyes immediately went to the small store that surprising looked like an Earth drugstore. It seemed like everyone else had the same idea and they went inside and split up.
He looked around quickly before he went to the hair care section and came across boxes of hair dye. After a quick look around, he grabbed a dirty brown colour, similar to his own.
“Lance?”
He shrieked and spun around, hiding the hair dye behind his back, despite the shelves of it clearly visible behind him.
“Shiro! Hey! What are you doing here?” Lance asked with a nervous chuckle.
“Uh…I just saw you here and came over?” He said confused. “Are you getting hair dye?”
“Um, yup! Just want to change it up you know,” he said quickly, eyes darting around nervously.
“Right, can I see?”
“Oh, you really don’t want to see it right now. It’s really greasy and gross an-”
“I meant the dye, is there something wrong with your hair or something?” He asked, leaning forward as if he would be able to see through the helmet.
“Uh…no?”
“You don’t sound so sure,” Shiro said sternly before turning concerned. “Maybe I can help you with it,”
“It’s really not that important,” Lance muttered, rubbing his arm self-consciously. Shiro’s brows furrowed and he laid his hand on his shoulder.
“It must be important if it’s bothering you this much,” Shiro said, a kind smile on his face. Lance bit his lip, mind swirling with indecision. It shouldn’t be affecting him so much. At least he didn’t think it should but still every time he looked at it, it sent a swirl of anxiety through his stomach.
“Okay,” he said quietly before pulling his helmet up enough so he could see the tips of his white bangs. Shiro’s eyes widened in shock and Lance hurriedly shoved his helmet back over his head.
“Your hair’s white,” Shiro said dumbly, still in shock. Lance nodded and looked down at his feet. At the increasing silence, he looked up and saw Shiro considering the boxes of dye. He snatched a random one off of the shelf and turned back to Lance.
“Dye mine too?” He asked with an easy smile. Lance blinked as he dropped the box in Lance’s hands.
He looked down at the box and furrows his brows. “You realize this is blue dye right?”
“Hmm, sounds good,” he decided, his fingers on his chin.
“What? Really?” He gaped.
“Why not? My hair’s white, I don’t need to bleach it or anything! I’ve always wanted to dye it!” He explained with excitement.
“Right,” Lance chuckled, looking at the box of plain brown dye he picked out for himself.
“Are you just going brown again?” Shiro asked, looking through the colours again.
“I don’t know now since you’re doing blue,” he said honestly.
“Why don’t you do something crazy? Try to fit into the crazy few weeks we’ve been having,” Shiro suggested. “Besides, it’ll fit into to your style,”
“My style?”
“Yeah. You’re kind of unpredictable and willing to try anything but you make it work,” Shiro stated.
“I never knew you thought that about me,” Lance said.
Shiro shrugged. “Being on the astral plane really put things in perspective for me, it’s better to tell people what you think, than never have them know what you felt. Especially if it’s a good thing,” he turned, tossing a box at him. “I think that’s your colour,”
“Really?” He asked, examining the cotton candy pink displayed on the front.
“Definitely,” Shiro nodded.
“So who’s going with who?” Keith asked as they started packing up the next morning.
“Dibs on Lance!” “Dibs on Shiro!” They both cried at the same time, throwing their hands up.
“Um…okay,” Lance and Shiro turned to each other, victory written over their faces and ran back to Red.
While they waited for their hair to set, the rest of the paladins appeared on the screen. They were both in their paladin robes, hair wrapped up in towels, and faces covered in one of Lance’s face masks. They paused and looked over at the screen, their eyes wide as if they got caught doing something wrong.
“Uh…what are you doing?” Keith asked.
Their eyes darted to each other quickly. “Spa day?” Shiro answered hesitantly with a slow shrug.
“Right. Well now we’re going to run drills,” he continued, still watching them carefully.
“Aw c’mon Keith, right now?” Lance whined, shoulders slumping.
“Yes! We have to stay sharp,” he sighed, massaging the bridge of his nose.
“A little longer break isn’t going to hurt anyone Keith,” Shiro broke in. Keith looked at him with a blank stare.
“His laziness is rubbing off on you,” he deadpanned.
“Bold of you to assume I wasn’t already lazy, Keith,” Shiro huffed, crossing his arms over his chest and turning away.
“This is a whole new level though,” Keith argued.
“Maybe I’m tired from being in the astral plane so long,” Shiro shrugged, picking at his robe. He looked up at Keith from under his lashes and saw him slowly turning red.
“That’s low,” he muttered.
“Let me rest,”
“Fine, whatever,” Keith relented disappearing from the screen. The rest of the paladins cheered before disappearing as well. They sat in silence for a few seconds, looking around the cockpit.
“Do you want to dye your eyebrows too?”
“Fuck yes,”
After a few more hours of travelling, they stopped on another planet to camp. They set up camp, eyes on Red since neither Lance or Shiro had come out yet. Finally, the two of them walked out of Red’s jaw with an unusual amount of “swagger”, with their helmets on.
“What the hell are you doing?” Keith deadpanned.
“Being cooler than you,” Shiro shot back.
“Oh, Jesus,” Keith groaned with a facepalm.
“Wanna show them?” Shiro asked with a wide grin.
“Show us what?” Allura asked curiously. Lance bit his lip but pulled his helmet off. The team gasped in surprise.
“What did you do to your hair?” Hunk asked with sparkling eyes as he reached out to pat the fluffy pink hair.
“It was growing out white so I wanted to dye it. I was gonna do brown but Shiro convinced me not to,” he said, gesturing to the black paladin. “Do you like it?”
“Wow, that actually suits you really well,” Pidge commented.
“Thanks,” Lance said gratefully.
“What about me?” Shiro asked pulling his helmet off as well.
“Holy shit, your mom is gonna fucking kill you,” Keith snickered looking at the cobalt blue hair.
“Good,” Shiro said with a grin.

25, “I want an answer, goddammit.” For plance??? :)
so uh…remember that old Disney Channel show “Phil of the Future”?? this was definitely very much inspired by its concept (though tbh i only watched a tiny bit of it and don’t remember very much) so this is not nearly as angsty as that prompt implies. and no knowledge of the show required to know what’s going on here!! but anyway, ~3000 words, and i hope you like at least some of them!!
(25) “I want an answer, dammit.”
“What do you think this thing is anyway?” Lance pokesthe corner - or the cut-off corner - of the small pyramid-looking…gadget. Thesurface is smooth under his hand aside from narrow grooves on each side, andsomething almost glows inside the metal.
If Lance doesn’t know anybetter, he’d think it popped right out of one of those crazy science fictionmovies Hunk likes poking holes in.
“A toy, probably,”Hunk surmises. He holds his hand out, but Lance cradles the thing protectivelyagainst his chest. “Really? You don’t even want me to get a better look atit?”
Lance shakes his head, holdingthe object tighter, never mind that the sharp edge digs into his arm. “Mymystery to solve.”
Hunk raises an eyebrow beforerolling his eyes and returning his attention to the calculus textbook lyingopen on the table before him. “Where did you even get that?”
Heat rushes to Lance’s face, his eyes widening as he tries to think up a believable lie that won’t embarrasshim as much as Pidge left it behind inthe robotics classroom.
(That fact isn’t especially humiliating so much as the suggestionthat Lance might’ve still been at school after the robotics club met. He has areputation to maintain, and part of that is cooland uncaring student and a “cool and uncaring student” wouldn’tbe caught dead at school after classes.)
“Uh…Pidge left it in thecafeteria after lunch and I haven’t seen her again yet since,” Lance says.He flashes Hunk a smile and prays he won’t question him.
No one answers his prayer.
“Really?” Hunk frownsat the pyramid-looking thing in Lance’s arms. “That seems like an oddthing for her to carry around.”
“Well, Pidge is a little…”
“Weird?” Hunksuggests.
Lance gasps, jaw dropping as hestares at him. “Hunk, don’t be mean!”
He absently taps his pencil againsthis notebook. “I’m just saying what you were thinking,” he pointsout. “And, hey, she’s still great! I don’t blame you for having a littlecrush on her, even though I never figured her as your type, so—”
Lance’s brain struggles tocatch up with the words spilling out of Hunk’s mouth so that he blurts,“Wait, what?” His heart skips a beat, the gadget nearly tumbling fromhis grip until he scrambles to retrieve it, and he retorts, “I do not have a crush on Pidge!”
Hunk’s eyes narrow.“Right,” he says in a tone dripping sarcasm, “and I failed thecooking unit from home—”
“It’s just that sheflat-out rejected me when I invited her to eat lunch with us!” Lancewhines. He drops his forehead onto his own open textbook, the memory of herfrown and downcast eyes before she mumbled something about needing to study foran exam still stinging days later. “It’s like one day she’s complaining tome about what a waste of time P.E. is, and the next she’s avoiding me!”
Which was fine! Jenny Shaybonoffered him her pudding cup that lunch period, so really, Pidge was the real loser!
“But there is something odd about Pidge,”Lance muses. He sets the pyramid thing on his book - who cares about RRAM orthe trapezoid rule or whatever anyway? - and stares at it, hard. He’s never seen anything like it - though he never claims tobe an expert in technology or art - and besides, some things about Pidge justdon’t add up.
She and her brother justenrolled in the middle of the school year a few months ago. Pidge says strangethings and contradicts their physics and computer science teachers a lot - Lance can’t help being on hisguard in that class after Mr. Haxus’ last death glare - and complains aboutschool being a complete waste of time for her though for all intents andpurposes she’s a huge nerd.
(It’s why he asked her ratherthan Hunk to help him in calculus…or so he insists.)
“Just because she cansometimes resist your charms doesn’tmean she’s odd,” Hunk says, rolling his eyes.
“You’re the one who saidshe’s weird first!” Lance argues.
“Sure,” Hunk agreeswith a shrug. “I’ve never seen anyone else dip turkey bacon in peanutbutter, for one.”
Lance barely hears him, toobusy staring into some distant recess of the library. “You ever notice howcagey she gets when I ask her about her hobbies or where she’s from? You thinkshe likes video games?” He frowns, tapping his chin and considering how hecan get through to Pidge, entice from her one of those fond smiles that makessomething warm bloom in his chest…or even a boast.
“Yeah, but maybe she justdoesn’t want to talk about personal stuff,” Hunk says. “I mean, herfamily’s from Canada, right? I’d be embarrassed to be from Canada too.”
“But where from Canada?” Lance wonders with a wide, sweepinggesture. “When she said Canada,I tried to joke that she must like the cold, and she looked at me all confused! And she quotes, I kid you not,Canada is cold?”
“Maybe she’s from areality where climate change already did a number on Canada,” Hunk jokes, his lips curving in a smirk.
“How are you not curious, man?” Lance demands. He leans over the table to prod his shoulder andadds, “You’re the same guy who snuck a peek at Jenny Shaybon’s diary whenI wasn’t sure if she liked me!”
Hunk shudders. “Neveragain,” he says. “I found some sordid details in there I wish I couldforget.”
“Like—”
“Never. Again.”
Lance laughs, more amused thanoffended, before emphasizing, “Look, it’s almost like Pidge isn’t who shesays she is.” His eyes widen, heart jumping into his throat because damn does that make some kind of sensethe longer he thinks about it. With his heart racing in excitement, he grins, continuing, “It’s like she’s an undercover cop who can’t get her storystraight or a—what if she’s in Witness Protection and hasn’t learned her coverstory yet?”
Hunk stares at him, obviouslyincredulous. “You got all that just from that pyramid thing and the factthat she knew how to derive the fundamental theorem of calculus before Dr.Montgomery taught it to us?”
Lance points at him, hardlydeterred when Hunk shoves his hand away from his face, and says, “Nowyou’re getting it! And if she’s in danger—oh, God, what if she’s in danger?” Horror grips him, a vividimage of a crazed contract assassin crashing through the school’s main entrancescreaming for blood playing through his head.
“Yeah, I don’tthink—”
“She’ll need someone towatch her back.” Lance’s gaze drops to the pyramid, an idea taking rootwhile a sly smile pushes at his lips. “And I know just how to get her toagree.”
***
Lance isn’t above blackmail asany one of his siblings can attest.
(But not Hunk; he’s spotlessand the one time Lance tried to hold a failed batch of empanadas over his head,he shrugged and said, Even I screw up inthe kitchen sometimes.)
Now he gets to attempt histechnique on a new victim.
Pidge is on edge the second sheenters their first class over ten minutes late. Her hands wring the hem of herover-sized sweatshirt, her gaze fixed straight ahead on the chalkboard whiletheir physics teacher lectures - and Lance knowsshe’s off when she doesn’t raise her hand even once to question her.
“So…” Lance prodscarefully at the end of the period when they’re supposed to get a head start ontheir homework. He glances sideways at her, watches her cap and uncap her penwith a soft click over and over again. “When do I use kinetic frictioninstead of static?”
“When you…what?”Pidge’s head snaps around, wide eyes fixing on him. “Can you repeatthat?”
“Uh…what’s thedifference between elastic and inelastic collisions?” Lance wonders, thinking of a new question just because he can.
“Both momentum and kineticenergy are conserved in an elastic collision,” Pidge explains. “Onlymomentum is conserved for inelastic.”
Lance jots down a random formula- F = ma - and nods along, just tomake it look like that’s what he’s really interested in. “Thanks,” hetells her, flashing her a smile he hopes will set her at ease.
It does not. Instead sheprogresses even more slowly through her homework than he does, barely startingthe first problem by the time the bell rings.
She tries to race ahead ofeveryone else, ducking past students that tower over her and heading in thedirection that Lance knows must bethe robotics classroom, so he follows, his heavier than usual bag bouncingagainst his back, never mind that his next class is in the opposite direction.
(It’s Spanish, the one classhe’s acing since he’s almost fluent.)
This part of the school isrelatively quiet even during the day, with more specialized elective classesheld here. But Pidge still pauses outside the robotics class, gaze darting upand down the hall furtively - but missing Lance in his hiding spot just aroundthe corner - before she easily picks thelock and darts inside.
His jaw drops. Pidge knows howto pick locks? Then why hadn’t she tried that before he was forced to ask ajanitor to open his locker when he forgot the combination?
Well, no use in thinking aboutthe past when Lance has a Pidge to confront.
He slips through the crack inthe slowly closing door on silent feet in time to see her peeking under a deskand mumbling, “Where are you,Rover? I could’ve sworn I turned you off…”
“It has a name?”Lance blurts before he can stop himself.
Pidge’s head strikes the deskwith a harsh thunk when she jumps.
He winces and reaches acrossthe desk to touch her shoulder. “Sorry! Are you okay?”
She mutters something too lowfor him to hear before straightening, her eyes wide and face red and whole bodystiff and looking very much like she wants to bolt. “Lance? What’re youdoing here?”
Of course she completelyignores his question.
“Uh…I have roboticslater, obviously,” Lance lies with a grin that feels strained. “Justhad a bit of last-minute homework to finish first about like…Turing and daVinci and—”
“Oh, just stop whileyou’re ahead,” Pidge cuts him off, rolling her eyes, though the corner ofher mouth ticking up slightly validates his rambling. “I know you’re notin robotics.”
“And class is not insession here right now.” Lance rests his hands on the desk between themand leans towards her. “What’re youdoing here?”
Pidge’s eyes drift away, wandering around the classroom. “I lost something here yesterday,”she says. “I came by to look for it.”
“Lost what?” Lancewonders despite knowing exactly - well, kindof exactly - what. He shrugs off his backpack and drops it onto the desk, waiting for the right moment to unveil his discovery.
“Somethingimportant.” Pidge runs her fingers through her untidy hair and groans.“Matt was right; I never should’ve brought it to school, but I thought itwould be helpful for—”
Lance unzips his bag and pullsout the pyramid-shaped thing.
Pidge’s jaw drops, her handsshooting out. "You found Rover!” She makes to grab it, but Lanceholds it just out of her reach. She glares at him and practically growls,“Lance, that’s mine.”
“What is it?” Lancewonders, running a fingertip along a sharp edge. “And why were you talkingabout it as if it can move on its own?”
“It’s a…virtual realityprototype,” Pidge says. Her hands curl into fists at her sides, likelymaking some effort to be patient rather than just launching herself over thedesk to wrestle her possession away from him.
(Which…Lance isn’t entirelysure he’d be opposed to.)
“Is it?” Lance raisesan eyebrow; cool as virtual reality would be, something in her words ringsuntrue. “Can I try it out? I swear I won’t tell anyone about it if you’retrying to keep it a secret.”
“No, you can’t.”Pidge crosses her arms. “It’s veryunrefined; the images aren’t…detailed enough yet, and there are all thesebugs in the code I’m trying to fix and—”
“So who did you see getmurdered?” Lance asks. Might as well cut to the chase if she still insistson lying, right?
Pidge stares at him. “Whodid I…what? No one!”
“Wrong answer,Pidge,” Lance accuses, prodding her in the shoulder, “if that’s evenyour real name!”
Her jaw flaps, eyes wide andstunned till she admits, “It’s not.”
Lance grins and pumps his fist,a flush of triumph filling him. "Aha, I knew it!”
“Pidge is just a dumbnickname my brother gave me,” she says, shrugging. “My real name isKatie.”
Really? Such a cute, femininename belongs to the girl in the baggy sweatshirt and untidy hair? But that’snot important, not when his alarm spikes and he waves his hand in her face andsays, “Hey, why are you telling me this?” He glances over hisshoulder at the door, half-expecting someone - maybe the robotics class teacheris a spy? - to be standing there andeavesdropping. “What if someone that wants to kill you finds out?”
Pidge slams her hands onto thedesk, a deep frown on her face, and demands, “Lance, what the quiznak areyou going on about? No one’s ever tried to kill me, and I never intentionally hid my real name!”
Lance flails his arms, agitated. “Aren’t you in Witness—wait, what the hell is a ‘quiznak’?”
Pidge’s eyes widen as sherecoils from him and mutters, “Quiznak, it’s a…curse word from a book Iread.” She smiles, but Lance knows a fake one when he sees it.
He crosses his arms and smirks, knowing he’s caught her. “Nice try, Katie,”he says. “Who are you and where are you from really?” He pats the pyramid thing - Rover - on its flatcornered top and adds, “I want an answer, and you’re not getting this backuntil you explain.”
Her eyes narrow while shescowls, mistrust obvious in every twitch of her face.
And maybe blackmail was aterrible idea to get Pidge to talk - to confide in him - because that distrust hurts.
But Lance stands his ground andholds her gaze. “You know Canada’s cold, right?” he says in a low voice, not quite willing to disrupt the tense cloud hanging over them.
“I do know,” Pidgegrumbles. “Where I’m from, Canada doesn’t even technically exist anymore, and political and climate histories have never been my strong suits.Technological history, on the other hand—”
“Where you’re from?”Lance prompts. His heart pounds, excitement gripping him, for he senses Pidgeis on the verge of giving him answers.
“Well, more like when I’m from,” she admits with asigh. She props her elbows on the table, leaning slightly towards him with hergaze on Rover. “My family was on vacation when the machine broke down, sowe got stranded here.”
Lance, even more confused thanhe was before Pidge started talking, rests his hands on his hips and raises aneyebrow. “Can’t you just take your car to a shop if it broke down? Hey, Ibet Hunk would be willing—”
“Not a car,” Pidgeinterrupts, eyes darting up to his before flitting away again. “A…timemachine.”
At first, Lance doubts he heardher right, but then he laughs and nudge her in the shoulder. “Good one,Pidge,” he says. “You really had me going for a second.”
Pidge frowns. “I’m notjoking, Lance.”
“Really? Timemachine?” Lance smirks. “You have a pretty good imagination; thatshould be what your virtual reality game is about!”
Her frown turns into anirritated scowl. “I tell you the truth like you asked, and this is how you react?”
“Don’t worry,” Lancesays, raising his hands and trying (but failing) to dampen his grin. “Ipromise I won’t tell anyone; your secret is safe with—”
Pidge taps one of Rover’scorners, and wires running through its sides embedded in the metal burst withcolor, flashing red before fading into blue. Lance’s jaw drops, heart jumpinginto his throat, as the thing - is it a robot? And way more advanced and cooler thananything the robotics club can hope to build in this century - rises, hoveringin place with a green indicator light blinking at him before turning towardsher.
Pidge smiles and greets it,“Good morning, Rover. Did the mean, scary boy kidnap you?”
Lance doesn’t recover fastenough to get more than mildly annoyed that she called him “mean” and“scary”, not when a damn robot beeping like R2D2 hovers in front ofhim.
(He wonders if its“language” is as filthy as R2D2’s.)
“Believe me now?”Pidge wonders with a glare.
Lance’s jaw snaps shut with aclick as he recovers from his shock. He nods frantically and reassures her,“Yes, you’re from the future but we’ll say you’re from Canada!”
Pidge’s expression relaxes asRover hovers over her shoulder. “Good,” she says, and she rounds thedesk and approaches him.
His heart races and heat rushesto his face when she grabs him by the front of his jacket and tugs him down toher level, so close to her face hecan see every distinct shade of brown in her eyes. “And I don’t care howcute you are,” she hisses. “If you breathe one word of this to anyone- even Hunk - I’ll show you what we do to blabbermouths in my time.”
Lance’s mouth dries, a flutterlow in his abdomen, as he swallows, just a little afraid of this tiny girl withthe flashy robot and a death grip on his jacket, and manages to promise,“I won’t tell anyone.”
Pidge grins, though there’s amenacing edge to it. “Good.” She lets go and lightly smacks hischeek. “Guess there’s no harm in us being friends now.”
Lance straightens and exhales, forcing the tension from his body. He smiles - at least he likes the outcome, and he won’t learn what exactlyPidge’s threat entails if he can help it - and agrees, “Yeah, I’dlike—” His eyes widen so much he worries they’ll pop out of his skull.“Wait, did you just call me cute?”
Pidge’s reddening face is allthe answer he needs to know that hisfuture will be…interesting.

Steven Universe: Marooned Together - Chapter Fifty
(thanks as always to @real-fakedoors for proofreading!)
Time flew by once more.
Everywhere they looked, Stevonnie could see it passing. They kept what record they could in a little box under the bed - an invitation to Jenny’s sixtieth birthday party, a certificate marking the laying down of New Earth’s first large battleship, a polaroid sneakily taken of Blue and Yellow Pearl kissing in the back of the Diamond’s Lament. There was a grumpy letter to a New Earth newspaper from the Curator, lamenting that the settlement’s youth didn’t know the old ‘BCE/CE’ calendar off by heart, and a printed manifesto calling for the establishment of a New Earth Colonisation Scheme.
Yet even now, there were small joys that stayed the same. For example, there was the warmth of a bed, the feeling of their soulmate beside them, the sound of their light snores.
It was almost enough to stop them from waking up early today.
Almost.
But today was special. Today was New Earth Foundation Day, and it was a special one at that; it was the thirtieth anniversary of the city.
“Lapis…”
Stevonnie grinned as they gently poked their partner, chuckling as she grimace.
“No honey, five more minutes…”
“It's Foundation Day, Lapis,” continued Stevonnie. “We’re going to town…”
“Town sucks,” Lapis muttered sleepily. “Snuggle with me.”
Stevonnie grinned as they pulled the blankets off her, leaving her to grumble wearily as they began to freshen up for the day. Slowly, ever so slowly, she rolled out of bed, her hair still a mess. She concentrated - it glowed and marginally neatened out.
“We meeting anyone there?” she asked.
Stevonnie nodded. “Garnet and Rhodonite. I thought it'd be fun to hang out with them, you know?”
“Mhm,” said Lapis.
She walked over, wrapping her hands over Stevonnie’s shoulders.
“Not as fun as hanging out with you.”
Stevonnie chuckled, blushing, as Lapis pecked them on the cheek.
“Alright, Lappy,” they said, grinning. “Let's get moving…”
---
Lars’ hair and beard had grown over the last year - Jeff had told him that he somewhat resembled a mountain man.
It was not, as some had called it, a ‘beard of sorrow.’ Sure, sure, his heart had been broken once again, but part of him understood - better for Sadie to be happy elsewhere than happy with him, right? Yeah, that was it, they'd both be happier getting on with their lives - and if getting on with his life meant growing a Gandalf beard, then that's just what he'd do.
He'd thrown himself back into the dating scene too, with mixed success. He'd gone pretty steady for a while with Dr. West’s son, but that had fallen apart when the retired physician died the previous year. He'd been seeing a nice zircon on and off, but it didn't seem to be working. Other than that, he'd been focused on piracy - venting some of his pent up emotions on Homeworld trade ships.
It wasn't therapy, but Lars had never trusted therapists.
He'd wanted to stay away from Foundation Day, but hearing Padparadscha’s excitement about it had forced his hand. He settled for staying in bed while the crew went out, staring at the ceiling and feigning sleep.
Yep, he was fiiiiiiine.
“You really gonna stay here all day?”
Lars looked to the door. Jasper leaned on the frame, her arms crossed.
“Uh-huh,” Lars replied. “I don't like crowds, man.”
Jasper nodded.
“Sets something off, doesn't it?” she agreed. “Makes you feel trapped, vulnerable - like you're about to be in an ambush.”
Lars swallowed and nodded.
“So you staying in too, huh?” he asked.
“Someone needed to patch that hole in the hull we got last week,” Jasper replied.
There was a long silence.
“You ever feel lonely, Jasper?” asked Lars. “Like, you're surrounded by friends, but you're totally alone?”
“Yeah,” said Jasper. “I do.”
Lars swallowed and closed his eyes.
“Like, I… I know people love me, and they care about me,” he continued, “but my head just tells me I’m worthless and nobody actually means that, and it’d be better if I just…”
“Captain,” interrupted Jasper, “You can’t-”
“...and it just won’t go away!” continued Lars. “I haven’t felt like this i-in years, and… and I just try and keep it in, because I have to, but sometimes my hands start shaking and my head starts screaming and…”
He felt something firm around his hand, and slowly opened his eyes.
Jasper was clutching his hand, staring stoically down on him. Her mouth was set in a frown.
“This is how humans comfort each other, right?” she said.
Lars blinked.
“You think you’re weak,” continued Jasper, “but you’ve made it this far. She left you, but you kept going. That voice in your head tried to stop you, but you kept going.”
“But…”
“I used to think that voice was right,” she continued. “That is was how I really felt. But it isn’t. It’s a liar. It’s an enemy you have to push back against, you have to win against. And the only way you truly win is by…”
“...by learning to love yourself?”
“By learning to move on.”
Jasper shrugs.
“Although loving yourself probably helps.”
Lars snorted. He felt something pricking at the corners of his eyes, and before he knew it he was hugging close to Jasper’s arm, crying it all out.
“I’m sorry,” he wheezed. “I’m sorry, I’m supposed to be the captain, I-I shouldn’t be…”
“No,” replied Jasper. “This is just what that voice doesn’t want you to do. Defy it. Let it out.”
She stood there, like a sentry on guard, as Lars cried it all out, his sobs echoing in the near-empty ship. It took some time, but eventually, Lars lifted his head out of her arm, looking up at her with puffy red eyes.
“I… I don’t want to be in bed anymore,” he said. “I… I’m gonna go out. Is that…”
“We both will,” said Jasper. “I’ll fix the hull later, but for now…”
She thrust her index finger into Lars’ nose.
“I order you to have fun.”

“Museum of Earth Open Day today! Step right up! They let me get the Rolls-Royce out, see how overly rich people travelled in the Thirties!”
The Curator was positioned grandly outside the museum, literally standing on a soap box. He held up a megaphone, advertising the museum’s Foundation Day event to all who passed, the newly polished 1920’s car sitting behind him. Lapis wandered over to it, as much because it was shiny and stood out as anything - she immediately regretted it as the Curator turned to her, jamming the megaphone in her face.
“YEAH IT’S PRETTY GOOD, INNIT?!”
“Aaaagh!” Lapis winced.
“OH. SORRY. I SUPPOSE I SHOULD PUT THIS THING- OH, HEY STEVONNIE!”
Stevonnie clutched their ears as they got a blast from the megaphone.
“Maybe you should focus on getting people in.”
Blue Pearl stepped over, and Lapis raised her eyebrows. Her old Diamond-apparel was gone - she wore a pale blue dress and a darker blue blazer, with a little scarf around her neck.
“Wow, I love the new look, Bloop!” exclaimed Stevonnie?
Blue Pearl blushed slightly.
“I felt I needed an upgrade,” she replied. “After all, I’m being promoted.”
“Promoted?” Lapis tilted her head.
“The Curator is retiring next year,” continued Blue Pearl softly. “I’m taking his place.”
“YEP, I’M GONNA BE FOCUSING ON MY PASSION OF RAILWAY MODELLING FULL TI-”
“STOP DOING THAT!” thundered Lapis.
The Curator jumped and tumbled off the soap box.
“Aw, Bloop, you’re gonna do great!” said Stevonnie, pulling her into a hug. “Though it’s gonna be weird coming here without the Curator wandering about… what is his name anyway?”
“His name is L-”
“Oh my stars, it’s Stevonnie!”
Stevonnie turned. A small, somewhat chunky boy in a yellow shirt and headband was staring up at them, eyes twinkling.
“Oh, hey there kid!” said Stevonnie, kneeling down to his level. “Yep, I’m Stevonnie! What’s your name?”
The boy gulped; he evidently hadn’t expected Stevonnie to speak to him.
“I-I did a project for you f-for class, but i-it’s not that great… uh, um…” the boy scratched his head. “M-my name is H-Hunk.”
“A project on me?” Stevonnie’s eyes sparkled.
“Yeah,” Hunk said. “W-we had to do a project on a f-founder figure for Foundation Day.”
“Hunk?”
Stevonnie, Lapis and Hunk looked up. A small group of kids, centred around a teacher, were heading over to him.
“You tryin’ ta run away, Hunk?” a lanky boy in a brown jacket laughed, putting a hand on his shoulder.
He looked up, his eyes falling on Lapis.
“Oh wow!” he exclaimed. “I did my project on you!”
Lapis blushed.
“I… but-but I’m not a founder!” she replied. “I just… come around sometimes?”
“But you’re so cool!” the boy waved his arms out. “You make water stuff go, like, pow pow, and kick butt and-”
“-definitely not a founder,” interjected yet another kid, this one even smaller,  bespectacled, donning a green-and-white shirt. “That’s why you got a bad grade.”
Rolling his eyes dramatically, the other one retorted, “Uuuuuugh, Piiii-iiiiidge! Don’t you have, like, a book or something you should be reading somewhere? I’m tryin’ to talk to Lapis Lazuli here!” His voice dropped, though not so low that Stevonnie couldn’t hear them whisper, “I’m tryin’ to look coo-oool!”
“Why? It’s not like Keith is even lookin’,” snorted the smaller one— Pidge, evidently. “He threw his bookbag at James and now the teacher’s mad at him.”
Lapis glanced over to who could only be the trio’s teacher, who appeared to be in the middle of a lecture that fell on the deaf-ears of a scruffy-haired boy, arms crossed and shooting glares at another boy who was crying. Despite the tears, Lapis couldn’t help but think he sort of looked like a jerk.
“...I know what James said wasn’t very nice, but we don’t throw our bookbags at people,” said the teacher. “Even if we feel like we’ve been wronged. Do you understand? ”
“Yes, Ms. Dierker,” muttered the boy, glaring at his feet.
“Good,” nodded the teacher. “Hunk! Lance! Pidge! We need to keep…”
She raised her eyebrows and walked over.
“Oh, hello!” she said. “Sorry, sorry, I hope they weren’t interrupting. Garrison Elementary did a Foundation Day project, and Lance and Hunk here each did one of you two, so I guess they wanted to say ‘hi.’”
“It’s no problem!” replied Stevonnie. “I’m happy to say ‘hi’ back! I just didn’t know I was famous!”
“I didn’t want to be famous,” added Lapis, shrugging.
“Oh, uh, Stevonnie?” Hunk raised his hand, biting his lip but waiting to be called upon before continuing. “I-uh-I couldn’t answer th-this in my project but, uh, why do you stay fused? I mean, if that’s okay and…”
Stevonnie grinned widely.
“Because Steven and Connie love each other very much,” they replied. “And they don’t want to be apart. That’s why I stay fused.”
“Plus they’ve got a girlfriend, so…” Lapis smirked, putting an arm over their shoulder.
Lance made a face.
“Yeah, okay, I’m gonna go look at the big car now,” he announced.
“We,” said the teacher, “are gonna go inside now. Alright Garrison, let’s all thank Stevonnie and Lapis for their time!”
“Thank you Stevonnie and Lapis,” they chorused.
“Yeah, cool, whatever,” said Keith, the one who’d been scolded, a bit belatedly.
Stevonnie grinned and waved as they walked away.
“Those children,” said Blue Pearl, “have never seen Earth. It’s… sad to think they’ll never know their homeworld.”
“Well, in a way… this really is their homeworld. Earth might be where a lot of the culture here comes from, but those kids had to have all been born here. This is their home. But knowing where they came from is important, too, and they will, Bloop,” replied Stevonnie. “Because they’ve got you, and this museum.”
“AND THIS ROLLS-ROYCE.”
Lapis turned and punched the Curator in the face.
---
The Titan lived up to her surly, larger-than-life name.
She dwarfed the other ships in the docks, stretching to two-hundred and fifty metres long. Painted battleship grey, her name was emblazoned on the front of the bow - she looked a lot like one of the old battleships of Earth, with three turrets of plasma cannons on either side of a towering bridge structure. The biggest difference was the hull itself, which resembled an enormous bathtub covered in portholes and piping, with the enormous thrusters taking up most of the stern.
Amethyst sighed as she stood in the crowd, listening to Jeff give his speech. Peridot had insisted they were coming to the christening of the ship - ‘it’s ninety-percent peridot designed!’ she had declared proudly. The pirate couldn’t see what all the fuss was about; it just looked oversized and easy to ambush, if she was completely honest.
“...and now it’s my great pleasure to hand over to the Titan’s first captain!” Jeff exclaimed. “Please give it up for Captain Jacob Huller!”
Amethyst raised an eyebrow. She’d met Huller - he’d been a hand on the Crystal Avenger for a time - but she hadn’t seen him in many years. She wondered when he’d grown that beard.
“Oh hey, we know him!” exclaimed Peridot.
Amethyst rolled her eyes but chuckled regardless.
“So,” said Peridot, “are we still meeting Stevonnie at the Diamond’s Lament tonight?”
Amethyst blew a hair from her face.
“Honestly?” she replied. “Thinking I might bail. I-”
“Amethyst, you’ve ‘bailed’ every time we’ve tried to meet for the past two months!” said Peridot sternly.
“I know, but…” Amethyst bit her lip. “But I know they’re gonna be looking for Pearl, right? And I… I don’t want to find her, but I don’t want to tell them that, and…”
She shrugged.
“Lapis is probably still pissed that I went off on Vonnie anyway, so-”
“It’s been nearly two years, Amethyst.”
“Yeah? You know how long that girl holds a grudge, ‘Dot.”
Peridot shook her head.
“Right,” she said. “You’ve forced my hand, Amethyst. Either you come with me to the Lament tonight, or you’re sleeping on the couch.”
“You can’t do that, I’m the captain!” snapped Amethyst.
“Yeah? Well I’m your captain.”
Amethyst sighed, but there was a hint of mirth underneath.
“Fiiiiiine,” she said, “But only because I’m not going without-”
“Um, excuse me,” a pale red pearl leaned over, her mouth set into a frown of disapproval. “Some of us are trying to listen to Captain Huller.”
Amethyst stuck out her tongue as the pearl turned away.
“See why I don’t want her back?” she muttered.
Peridot snickered quietly.
---
Garnet and Rhodonite walked through the market, looking at the new stalls set up especially for Foundation Day. It was later in the day, and the area had thinned out, but there were still a few interesting things left to be found.
“Step right up, step right up!”
A middle-aged woman in a suit and straw hat was standing next to a big display. It showed a big planet - an idealised vision of a blue and green, Earth-like orb - with models of a number of basic-looking prefab structures around it. Above the woman and her stall was a big, stark-red banner that shouted at all passersby; ‘BOLD VOLUNTEERS - STEP FORWARD!”
“Who’s that?” Rhodonite asked, tilting her head.
“Good people of New Earth, good news to you I tell!” exclaimed the woman. “Mayor Fryman has officially given assent for the Nova Terra Company, and now we’re here to offer you the chance of a lifetime! Live under a blue sky once more! Sign up as a colonist today, and…”
Rhodonite and Garnet glanced at each other.
“Honestly, I… I’d rather not,” admitted Rhodonite.
Garnet smiled and nodded.
“Then let’s go over there.”
She pointed to another stall, this one very colourful. An older, heavy-set man stood behind a counter - behind him were a set of small, vertical strips of iron, and above them were a series of large, colourful plushies. The older man grinned as Garnet approached.
“Hey there, dudes!” he exclaimed. “Do you have what it takes to win the…”
He looked up at the plushies and frowns.
“Huh, I don’t really know what these are supposed to be,” he admitted. “They look pretty cool, though.”
“Tell me which one you like, Rhodonite,” said Garnet.
Rhodonite looked up.
“Hmm… I think… that pink whale thing,” she replied, pointing to a huge pink whale plushie on top of the wall.
“Aw, dude, you might want to aim a little lower,” said the vendor. “To win that one, you have to put a hoop on all of the targets, and…”
Garnet grabbed a ring.
“Stand back, ring man.”
The vendor did so, and suddenly Garnet’s arms were a blur. One by one, each target was hit by a ring, the speed of the throws almost too fast to make out. Then, with not even five seconds having passed, the final ring found it’s target.
There was a brief silence.
“That,” said the vendor, “was pretty sweet, dude.”
Garnet grinned, adjusting her visor.
“I,” she replied, “am the master of the ring toss.”
The vendor nodded sagely as he pulled down the pink whale, handing it almost reverently to Garnet. The fusion’s grin widened as she turned around, passing it on to Rhodonite.
“Oh, Garnet!” Rhodonites eyes lit up. “I love her!”
Garnet gave her a thumbs up.
“Anytime.”
As they walked away, Rhodonite tucked the whale under one set of arms - with her top right hand, she gingerly took Garnet’s.
“I’m gonna call her… Garnet Junior.”
---
As might have been expected, the Diamond’s Lament was packed that evening.
Stevonnie grinned as they and Lapis walked inside, passing a few little gatherings already in progress on the other tables. The Curator, Ms. Dierker and Captain Huller were gathered at one, the former already well into one of his history tales. At another, Lenny and Carl were staring contentedly into each other’s eyes, apparently oblivious to X and C making fun of them.
They passed the counter, where Simon was in an argument with his granddaughter.
“...but granddad, you were a marine…”
“Yes, and that’s exactly why you’re not joining,” Simon replied firmly. “No good will come of it. The Titan can find other marines, Cath, but I am not letting ‘em have you…”
“Hey, Stevonnie! Lapis!”
Stevonnie grinned as they reached their table, just in front of the stage. Bismuth had called them over; Garnet and Rhodonite waved as they sat down.
“Is Amethyst here yet?” they asked.
“Not yet,” replied Garnet. “But they’re coming.”
“Oh,” said Lapis, her tone somewhat flat. “Good.”
“So, what do you reckon Jeff’s gonna say tonight?” asked Stevonnie. “It’s gotta be good, right? He always nails these speeches…”
“Where’s Jenny?” asked Lapis, glancing over to another table - Buck and Sour Cream were engaged in quiet conversation, holding hands over a wooden table.
“Couldn’t make it,” replied Bismuth. “Still scavenging. She told me to tell you she said hi, though.”
“Oh, okay,” said Stevonnie - they sounded ever-so-slightly crestfallen. “Ah well, tell her we said ‘hi’ back! I…”
“Behold! The party can begin! Peridot has arrived!”
Stevonnie turned. Peridot marched towards the table, finger pointed in the air - Amethyst trailed behind, rubbing her arm and looking at her feet.
“Peridot!” the fusion laughed and scooped her up into a hug.
When they had put her down, they turned to Amethyst, who was now staring rather intently at a nail in the floorboards.
“Are you okay, Amethyst?” they asked.
Amethyst sighed.
“I… I’m gonna be honest, I still don’t know how to feel about Pearl,” she replied. “I’m definitely still not ready to start looking for her, but… but you guys are my fri… you’re my family, and I don’t… aw man, this is awkward, I…”
She looked up, allowing them all to see her glistening eyes.
“I’m sorry,” she said. “I shouldn’t have gone off on you guys like that. I-I know it was hard for you too and I guess I just lost control, and I…”
She trailed off as Lapis stepped over, swallowing as the blue gem towered over her.
Then she knelt down and pulled her into a hug.
“It’s okay,” she said. “I forgive you.”
“Whoa, heh, a Lapis hug?” Amethyst chuckled, even as her voice broke slightly. “Never thought I’d get one of those, heh…”
Lapis glanced back to Stevonnie - they exchanged smiles.
“I learned from the best,” she replied.
“Alright everyone!”
Their eyes fell on the stage. Peedee stood there - somehow Jeff had managed to squeeze him into a proper suit for the occasion, and at least make an attempt at grooming his beard. He awkwardly scratched the back of his head as the room fell silent.
“Um, I don’t normally do this, so, y’know, good thing I’m not up here long,” he said, “but, uh, it is my great pleasure to introduce the Mayor of New Earth, and the best husband in the whole universe, Jeff Fryman!”
He stepped aside as Jeff walked onto the stage. Even after all these years, he looked ever-so-slightly nervous in front of a crowd, adjusting his tie as he reached the microphone. But then Peedee had shot him a reassuring smile and all that nervousness had melted away; he cleared his throat and began.
“Good evening everyone, it’s good to see you all here,” he said. “I know you came here for a party, not a speech, so I’m gonna keep this short.”
“Good,” whispered Amethyst.
“Aw, I like Jeff’s speeches,” said Stevonnie.
“Sometimes it feels like the past thirty years have been a hundred,” said Jeff. “Other times, those first, hard days seem like they were just yesterday. When we first arrived on the rock that would become New Earth, all we had were a few captured cargo pods, the Crystal Avenger and a small band of humans and gems who thought of little more than survival. Yet just two years later, we opened this place. And now look where we are.”
He extended his arms. “New Earth isn’t just a refugee camp or a hideout for pirates. It isn’t even just a city. New Earth is an idea. It’s a statement. For gems, it’s a place where they can be free; free to live, to express themselves, to fall in love…”
A few tables away, Blue and Yellow Pearl glanced at each other. Blue smiled and pecked Yellow on the cheek - the other pearl blushed furiously.
“And for humans,” Jeff continued. “It’s a shout to the entire universe; here we are! We’re still here! The Diamonds couldn’t destroy us, and they never will!”
A few people - Cath Richardson included - let out a cheer. Simon glanced warily at his granddaughter.
“But the only reason New Earth can be what it is is because we work together,” said Jeff, placing his fist in his palm. “When we turned this place from a hideout to a home, we did it together. When we stood against the Human Resistance coup, we did it together. And whatever we face in the future, we’re gonna face it together.”
He smiled.
“Here there are no outcasts; there is nobody who doesn’t belong.”
At his table, Lars smiled, putting an arm over Padparadscha’s shoulder. The Rutiles grinned at each other, and Fluorite pulled Jasper closer to her; the quartz blushed but smiled.
“So tonight, I just wanna say; Foundation Day isn’t about me, or some other nebulous group of pioneers. This isn’t even about you. This is about us. Because without us, there is nothing.”
Stevonnie stood up, applauding their friend. Before long, just about everyone else had followed suit; Jeff turned bright red, and then somehow redder soon as Peedee walked over and pulled him into a hug. He turned, kissed his husband, and returned to the microphone.
“Now, I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news,” he said. “Our first act for tonight had to cancel - something about stomach cramps. So if anyone’s got an idea to fill time, I’d-”
“I’ve got an idea!” said Stevonnie, raising their hand. “At least, I think I do…”
They turned, whispering in Lapis ear. She raised her eyebrows, blushing slightly.
“A-are you sure? I’m not… you really think I…”
She nodded.
“Okay,” she said. “I’m in.”
“Yes!” Stevonnie punched the air. “Anyone here got a ukelele or a guitar or something?”
“We’ve got a guitar out back, yeah,” Simon called back. “I’ll bring it up.”
Stevonnie grinned from ear-to-ear as they pulled Lapis up from her chair and up towards the stage. Before long, they’d been set up with an old wooden guitar, Lapis had been given the microphone, and the lights were dimming.
“O-okay, so, uh, this is an old song,” said Lapis. “I-I haven’t sung it in a long, long time, but… but I hope you like it.”
She closed her eyes as Stevonnie began to play.
“It all became so lovely, Those bluest skies above me, Those funny feelings I had never felt before I met you…”
Amethyst and Peridot turned to each other. Peridot smiled, winked, and pulled her girlfriend into a kiss.
“I thought I’d stay a while, I tried to learn to smile, So many colours I had never even known…”
“Maybe I’ll find myself sitting on that distant shore, Maybe I’m not alone…”
Stevonnie stepped forward, still playing as they took their position in front of the mic.
“You were the one who found me, Broke the despair around me, Brought back the feelings that I thought I’d lost until I found you…”
“We’ve made a place for us here, I never want to leave, dear, Marooned together, we found love in our new home…”
Now they both sang, their voices echoing in the dead silence of the Diamond’s Lament.
“And now we’ve found ourselves smiling on that distant shore, We’ll never be alone…”
As the lights came back on and the applause of their audience filled the air, Lapis Lazuli and Stevonnie turned to each other and pulled each other into a deep, loving kiss. For in that moment, only one thing truly mattered, and that was, as Jeff had said, ‘us’.

Hi for bingo could you do something with lance and accidentally hurt by friend except with it happening repeatedly because of a new voltron technique or something and langsty because he doesn’t wanna tell anyone until it gets really bad. Haha just an idea, if you’ve got time/desire
Tumblr media
Count: ~1.4kChara(s): Lance-centric ft. PaladinsParing(s): N/AFandom: VoltronPrompt: Accidentally Hurt by a Friend
Sorry this isn’t what you requested, Anon. I struggled with how I wanted to convey this prompt and the idea that it was the second to last so it HAD to be good. Yet, the more I thought about it, the harder it became to write, so this ended up being the result. It’s not as langsty as I wanted it to be T-T
Get your card @badthingshappenbingo
Lance was used to the teasing. He understood more than anyone that – yes – he was viewed as their residential goofball and – yes – he did say and do silly things from time to time. He didn’t hold it against Hunk or Pidge when they teased him about his unrequited crush on Allura, or back during the Garrison when Hunk would tease him about his various ill-fated flirts with Jenny Shayborn and the other Jenny. And Bex and Lauren. And–
The point was, Lance knew when his friends were teasing him. He knew and understood that every joke tossed his way was simply that – a joke. It was a little more annoying when Keith did it, maybe a little more hurtful when Shiro got in on the action or when Allura tossed him a barb or two. He tried not to hold it against them. (Although sometimes that was warranted. He was persistent in wanting her attention and sometimes he really couldn’t help himself – especially after a particularly nasty face off with Keith.)
But the whole mess with Lotor and his generals; watching Keith leave for the Blades only to return thirty times better, bigger, cooler – discovering Shiro was dead the whole time and the clone was nothing more than a temporary replacement – they’d been through far too much for them to ignore his growth as a Paladin of Voltron and as a decent human being.
Not that they did. He was sure they didn’t. It was just… sometimes his friends had a hard time understanding when enough was enough. They were all stressed by the loss of the castle. They were all struggling to keep their minds from falling into perpetual states of boredom as they traveled through space in their overworked lions.
Lance did his best to keep the mood light. He cracked jokes, made commentaries, sang a song or two. Or three. Or four. (Maybe more since Hunk had joined in and then Coran and then it was all of them, singing a song that was easy for everyone to follow with.)
So here they were now, floating through space with only one destination in mind, the image of their favorite little blue planet against the vast inky darkness of space remained seared in the forefront of Lance’s mind. According to Coran’s coordinates from the cockpit of the Blue Lion, they were getting closer and closer to the galaxy in which Earth resided in. Lance wasn’t exactly sure how many more quintants it would take, but it would be soon. They’d grown restless, Shiro more than the rest of them.
There was a lull in their communicators, each of the Paladins distracted by the thoughts that rolled through their heads. The silence was unsettling for Lance. It wasn’t the kind of silence he wanted to deal with after knowing they were so close to home. He was far too excited.
So he had an idea.
He opened the communication link for all the paladins to hear and started to sing a tune.
“Seriously, Lance?” He heard Pidge say. An image of her face appeared on his screen, a wide, almost tired smile plastered on her face. Behind her was Shiro, who laid heavily against the walls of the Green Lion. Just like Pidge, he seemed tired–ragged–as though he hadn’t been sleeping. “Shiro and I were just about to take a nap.”
“Yeah right,” Lance grinned. “Like you can sleep knowing we’re so close to home.”
She appeared thoughtful for a moment, tapping her chin as though she were truly considering the subject. From behind her, he watched Shiro chuckle.
“It would be nice to see our friends and family again.” He said, voice soft. “I’m… very proud of everyone.”
Hunk’s face appeared above Pidge’s, a mixture of emotions whirling in his eyes. “I know we’re going back for a reason and there’s a lot of work we have to do but, I’m really looking forward to spending some time with my mom.”
“Yeah,” Lance sighed. He leaned into his palm, eyes gazing into the distance as memories of his family flashed before his eyes. “I can’t wait to have my mom’s home-cooked meals again and catching up with my siblings. I don’t know how long we’ve been gone but I hope…” his voice trailed off, unsure of what to say.
Hunk didn’t need for him to continue to know what he meant. His expression turned wistful.
“Yeah,” he murmured quietly.
Keith’s face popped into place right beside Pidge’s. He looked determined and just as tired as the rest. Behind him, Krolia sat with the boy’s space wolf, stroking his fur with long, deft fingers.
“Just remember why we’re going back. I don’t know how long we have to stay on Earth but… the least we can do is make the most of it.”
“I, for one,” Allura began, her screen appearing beside Hunk’s and above Keith’s. “Look forward to seeing your planet.” She beamed. The mice on her shoulders pantomimed their excitement.
Behind her, and out of earshot of their comms, Lance could barely make out Coran and the other Altean girl–Romelle was it?–sit cross-legged on the floor. Between them, he could barely make out what looked like a game.
Lance wondered if it was too late for the rest of them to join.
“…bet Lance will flirt with them once we land.”
Lance snapped out of his thoughts and turned back to the images of his friends curiously. “Huh?”
“Nothing, never mind,” Hunk chuckled.
“Oh just, you know,” Pidge shrugged, a mischievous grin on her lips. “Hunk and I were just talking about the rest of our classmates in the Garrison.”
Lance’s brows furrowed. “Yeah? What about them?”
“We don’t know how long we’ve been out in space, so we were just discussing how surprised they’re going to be once they see Keith.”
“Me? Why me?”
“Keith, come on. Have you seen yourself? You have the best glow up out of all of us, that’s why.”
“Yeah, man.” Hunk continued to chuckle. “James is going to freak out. And Jenny. Probably.”
Pidge snorted. “If she still remembered Lance, that is.”
Lance bristled. He felt the apples of his cheeks flare up in heat as the duo laughed into the comms. Allura smiled at them politely, confused with their conversation but too polite to stop it. Keith, on the other hand, rolled his eyes in annoyance.
“Who is Jenny?” Shiro asked. “A friend of Lance’s?”
“Yeah right. Lance wishes! From what I heard, she was just a crush.”
“Yeah, that was brutal.” Hunk said, somewhat simmering down after his sudden laugh attack. “Be glad you guys weren’t there to see that. It was a disaster. Lance cried–”
The Red Lion veered to the right. It smashed into the larger, bulkier exterior of the Yellow Lion was such ferocious intensity, the image of Hunk in his cockpit sputtered out into static. The moment of their moment broke their alignment and while they were lucky there were no planets within the vicinity, it was enough to jostle both pilots.
Hunk’s face returned to Lance’s screen.
“What was that for!?”
“Are you boys okay?”
“What happened?”
“Did you lose control of the lion?”
Lance ignored their questions and opted to focus on the blankness of space. His heart hammered harshly in his chest, his brows stuck into a frown. His body grew hot from the anger that rushed through him, but more than that, he felt hurt.
Jenny’s rejection had been painful, perhaps not nearly as painful as Allura’s refusal of him and her own heartbreak, but painful nevertheless. To hear them bring her up like she’d been nothing more than a joke; to have Keith listen to them when he didn’t know the whole story – it hurt.
“Lance–”
“I’m going up ahead.” He muted their links and pulled on the thrusters.
Red soared forward without hesitation. It whipped past the rest of the lions like a bratty child too excited to wait for candy. They didn’t go far, not wanting to lose the rest of the time, but far enough for them to know that he wasn’t in the mood for their teasing. Not like that.
Not when it came to matters of the heart.
He made one too many mistakes already, but Jenny wasn’t one of them. Neither was Allura. He just wished they understood that.

Opening Lines
Hella late but I was tagged by @ambitiousskychild
Oh boy this is gonna be a teensy bit difficult since I’m only counting the first lines of projects (So Power Snuggles can only come up once... Stretch/Pull and the still pending part three...nope. Ahhhhh)
Rules: List the first lines of your last ten published stories. Look to see if there are any patterns that you notice yourself, and see if anyone else notices any! Tag up to ten friends!
10. Power Snuggles
The first time it happens Keith is just fed the fuck up. He’s tired and he’s irritable and the training drone can only take so much and Shiro is off on some diplomatic nonsense with Allura and he knows the object of his frustration won’t train with him because he’s only asked like a hundred times. Stupid boy just can’t catch the damn hint.
9. I Feel Everything
Lance is giddy. It’s the most exciting thing to happen to him since the king spotted him meandering around his court and decided to befriend him. Now, not only did he have favor with his king but he had been given a job. He was being useful. “I can’t breathe Hunk. He thinks I’m useful!” “Or,” Starts his best friend Hunk, stretching a large faded map out before his eyes and squinting at it as if it were written by rats, “And really think about this Lance, Or your king is actually just super lazy and taking advantage of your obvious crush on him to get you to do dubious things without anyone being aware of him.”
8. Privacy Violation
Lance knows that on some level—okay all of them—this is wrong. He knows that the whole idea is bad, and he should have told Pidge No. Someone had to be the girl’s moral compass and with Hunk out of the country visiting Shay in Europe that was supposed to be him. Why was he so bad at this?
He had three younger siblings and a whole gaggle of nieces and nephews who looked up to him and he couldn’t manage to handle a single teenage girl to not do something horrifically illegal?
And to make matters worse, he was helping her?!
7. What We’ve Always Been
He was taller. He was taller and wider, and his jaw was more pronounced and—God he looked good.
God he looked good.
His hair was longer and softly curled around the nape of his neck and it was sinful how much Lance wanted to thread his fingers through it, collect it in his hands and leave his neck bare and—
This just wasn’t fair. Why did Keith get to disappear and then just—change like that. Come back looking like he came straight out of a romance novel.
It was like…like—Lotor was finally out of the picture but oh no here comes Keith with his chiseled face and smoldering looks and the princess was totally going to fall for him now. (Just the princess. Of course.)
6. December
The first red flag of the night should have been Jenny’s pushiness. Keith had only hung out with her one time since they’d “become friends” in middle school and now they were taking two classes a semester at the local Uni (if any) and occasionally waved at each other in the hallways. Hell, Keith hadn’t even done that in months given the shit time he’d had at school and his absolute lack of a desire to pursue any kind of degree. He’d taken the fall semester off and was still mentally wording the letter to Shiro in his head about how he was going to drop out when Jenny had blown up his phone. “You’re just being a hermit aren’t you!? Get dressed! I’m coming over!”
5. Hellooo Cargo Pilot (NSFW)
As the chaos finally subsided, Keith allowed himself to breathe again. Not that flying his speeder over questionable terrain being followed by garrison officials who were trying to take his lifeline back wasn’t the most thrilling thing he’d done in a year, but it was still good to breathe. Besides, he had visitors now. It wasn’t like he’d planned to find Shiro of all people when he let himself in to the lab, nor did he even remotely think he’d end up taking Shiro and three garrison students (ex-garrison students?) back to his little shack in the desert. He had to breathe, he had to try and make sense of this. And most of all?
He had to not stare at Lance.
4. Getting Undressed
You want him to take off that suit. He looks at you, violet eyes quizzical as ever and dares to ask, “Why?” Why? Why. Why…!? Because that suit makes you angry.
3. His Presence
He’s not sure if this is a good thing or not, how everyone suddenly had their attention on him. He realized ages ago that his friends weren’t trying to hurt him these last few stress-filled months but there was still something about all the almost…forced affection that just.
Well.
It made him unbelievably fucking miserable.
2. Not! Dreaming of You
Work had been exhausting. God knows why anyone in their right mind would travel all over the grocery store with raw meat in their basket just to leave it buried behind the cereals—because that’s absolutely where it’s supposed to go right?
Keith had been the unfortunate one to find the mess and the blood and the boxes and boxes of completed ruined cereal. That was just the cherry on top of his grueling day at the express lane feigning cheer and putting up with stupid customers.
One of these days he was going to quit. Just. Just take his little name tag and stab Iverson in the eye with it. …That could end in incarceration rather than just a very clear “I Quit” though so…maybe not.
1. Stretch (NSFW)
After some particularly stressful nights Keith would wake up in the mornings and be heavily uninclined to leave his bed.
But that didn’t change the fact Keith knew he couldn’t just laze around in bed all day. So, he had to at least try. However, trying mostly consisted of stretching and groaning and flopping right back into his bed.
Which explained why he was in such an interesting position when Lance charged into the room screaming about Hunk’s newest breakfast concoctions.

10. Medicine (as needed):
He pushed through the crowd, Keith’s gaze becoming darker the closer he got. Until Lance was pulling him from the guy, too drunk to do more than pout before stumbling against someone new to grind against.
Lance grabbed Keith around the waist, pulling him closer. “Thought you didn’t dance,” Lance said in his ear.
Keith laughed. “You’re insistent for a straight boy.”
“I never said I was straight. I just said you’re the first guy I’ve wanted that way.” Keith raised an eyebrow and Lance felt his body moving with the music. “I’ve been thinking about you. I’ve been wanting to see you again.”
9. Fragile Hearts Ch. 9: Trying to Put it Into Words
The motel room was nicer than Pidge expected. The ones she’d seen on TV were usually ones with peeling wall paint, water stains, and roaches scurrying around rusted bathroom sinks and tubs. This one smelled like cotton air freshener and had little lamps and comfortable beds. It wasn’t as nice as the hotel room she’d gotten with Hunk back in New York, but that was to be expected.
As she finished brushing her teeth, she could feel Lance’s eyes on her. She ignored it, hoping to simply fall asleep for the night and keep the journey going in the morning.
Then he cleared his throat, and her stomach flipped. “So… are we gonna talk about Ohio?”
“No,” she said firmly.
“Pidge-”
“I really, really don’t want to, Lance. Please drop it.”
8. Rose Are Red Ch. 3
There were some people that immediately felt… off. People who, when they spoke, sparked some sort of evolutionary instinct in you to be wary. For some people it was a look in their eyes, something missing. Or the way they presented themselves.
It felt different from prejudice because it was a suspicion that you knew full well had no solid ground, and yet every instinct told you to stay alert. Not to let them close.
Many people confused this instinct for pretentiousness or pessimism. But that wasn’t the case. The fact of the matter was that some people were just more attuned to the characteristics in others that didn’t seem genuine.
Some people were more attuned to those who were dangerous.
7. Every Love Story Starts in a Coffeeshop
There were perks to working in a coffeeshop. Like the smell. The smell was… a little overwhelming, but soothing and constant. It was a homey smell. Or the sounds. The light chatter, the music, the whirring of blenders and coffee grinders. It was a symphony that complimented each other. Or the benefits! One free drink a day, flexible schedule for college courses, decent health care.
And there were also downsides, like there were to every job. Like the smell that lingered even hours after being off a shift, or the fact that the menu got old quick, or working on some of the busiest days at the busiest hours. And while some might say the worst thing about working at a coffeeshop are the pretentious customers with ridiculous orders, horrible attitudes, that eventually demand to see the manager because the drink wasn’t to their liking, that wasn’t it.
At least not for Will. He could handle those people. He was friendly enough that even the snobbiest customers would let up a bit and shrug off the inconvenience without getting him in trouble. He was good with people, with customer service, so the people he usually took orders for were typically just as friendly or reassured by his friendliness into a state of ease.
6. Love For You Ch. 3- Unsteady Confetti
The light from the computer was starting to hurt Keith’s eyes. It was late, and he was tired, and he wanted to go home. It was the second week he was working late without taking his usual day off within the week or getting off early on Friday.
He’d talked about it with Lance, and while Lance felt like he didn’t need to work so much, there hadn’t been an argument about it. Keith wanted to save his free days so he could spend the week of Violet’s birthday with her instead of working on her birthday like he was going to. And with the extra money, they would be able to do whatever she wanted for her birthday without worrying about work the next day.
“Hey, you look like you could use this.” A Starbucks cup was set down in front of him.
Keith looked up and smiled gratefully at his coworker. “Thanks, Leo.”
“How late are you working tonight?”
Keith looked at the clock at the corner of the computer. “Another hour. You leaving already?”
5. So Easy to Fall
It was funny the way time made people realize things. Like who holds an important place in your mind, in your heart. Being so far from the paladins for so long made Keith realize just how important they all were to him. How much he had come to see them all as family.
Coming back, however, had another effect on him entirely. It had been a struggle to understand where he stood with them, especially with the urgency of having to come back and get things done.
Now, with a course set for Earth, he had time to mull it over.
How the hell had Lance become… that?
He wasn’t the same guy who had to be yelled at to know when to stop joking, the one ready to pick petty arguments at the most minimal slight. He was a lot more serious now. A lot quieter. He even looked older. Keith knew he himself had aged his two years, so his change was expected. But Lance’s…. He was a little less round, a little more muscular.
4. Just a Beat of Your Wings
Looking in the mirror felt hollow. The feathers with streaks of red and black ruffled, looking sticky and tattered because of the rain. It was weird to think that everyone had these, that everyone’s look different. Being unable to see the wings of others always made Keith feel like a freak when he stared in the mirror. Sure, he was meant to see someone else’s one day, but… when?
He was twenty years old, a junior in college, and he was watching everyone find their soulmate. Meanwhile Keith’s wings slowly began to curl around him a little more like he could hide in them. Of course he couldn’t- no one else could see his wings.
Still it was a little comforting when his wings fluttered around him to help him feel a little less alone.
Keith braced himself then expanded his wings, letting each side dart out quickly, shaking off most of the water. He grabbed the oil he used to keep his wings from smelling damp and gently slathered it onto each silky feathered wing. They were a little damp still, but Keith knew they’d dry quickly. He allowed them to flutter slightly, lifting him off the ground if he didn’t pay attention.
3. The New Romantics Ch. 16
Finally. It was finally time to prepare for takeoff. After pacing around anxiously for half a varga, Keith felt like he was going to lose his mind. But as soon as he was given the order to set the coordinates and make sure the pod ship was ready, he turned it on and made sure everything was running smoothly twice.
Kolivan walked in shortly after, talking with Astriaga and a few other Blades. Keith rubbed the tips of his fingers together, reminding himself to be patient. Rushing his boss was not going to be doing him any favors. And yet it seemed like the conversation was taking so long.
“Keith!” He turned toward the sound of his name. Astriaga was standing at parade rest and looking at him with one arched eyebrow. “Are you in such a rush, you can’t say goodbye to your trainer?”
Keith blushed and walked over sheepishly. “I’m sorry,” he said. He lowered his voice as Kolivan continued to talk with the other Blades. “I’m just excited.”
Astriaga smiled. “Yes, we all know it. Just remember you have a duty first. Don’t take advantage of being Kolivan’s favorite pupil.” Keith furrowed his eyebrows, disbelieving the statement. Still, it made something comforting settle in his chest. “Be careful. And remember to listen to Kolivan.”
then because I haven’t written much outside of these, here’s some drafts I’ve recently left:
2. Shoebox Letters
It all started at the age of twelve. That was when Lance experienced his first most soul-consuming, intense, unrequited crush.
Her name was Jenny and Lance had her for his math and reading classes. She was smart, and she had long black hair that was always braided somehow. Lance had no idea what to do about the fact that he couldn’t think around her, or that the smell of her apples and caramel perfume permeated his brain until he swore he smelled it at the grocery store or at church. He had no idea what to do about the fact that his sweating got ten times more intense if she looked at him or laughed because he did something funny or stupid. He couldn’t even talk to her.
Then one day while his older sister was looking through some boxes of old photos for a project, he found some letters. They were yellowed, and the words were hard to read at the creases. They were dated back to the 1970s.
The letter belonged to his parents. They were love letters written to each other when they were still dating, when Lance’s father was still courting his mother. While it was a bit embarrassing to try and read the cursive, Lance saw how his sister swooned when she saw them. How she lit up and went on about how romantic the letter-writing was.
Which was why he decided to write Jenny a letter that night. He told her everything he felt. From the awkward sweatiness to the debilitating butterflies. He’d gone to school the next day with all intention of giving her the letter and running away.
Except that day was the same day Marc Figueroa asked her out. And Jenny said yes.
Heartbroken, twelve-year-old Lance stuffed his letter deeper into his pocket and never gave it to her. When he got home, he almost threw it away. If not for the part of him that wondered if maybe one day they’d break up and he could give it to her after all. That part of him made him save the letter under his mattress.
1. Unnamed Hidge Werewolf AU
The worst part of summer was the heat. The way shade didn’t seem to be enough and there wasn’t any breeze to relieve anyone from the scorch of it. Every summer, Hunk got darker than he was. He hated wearing sunscreen because it left him feeling sticky, and so the sun would prickle his skin and leave him up to three shades darker than when he got out of school.
The summer was nearly over, which meant that his Momma had started giving him a curfew again. She wanted him to get used to going to sleep at nine again instead of staying up until one in the morning playing video games with Lance.
Suddenly, he felt a sweaty hand grab his own sweaty arm. “I didn’t know there was kids there,” Lance said, pointing to an apartment two building over from where theirs were. “How comes we never sawed them?”
Hunk looked over to where Lance was pointing and saw a little boy with a toy plane and a smaller girl with a toy rocket.
“Maybe they’re new,” Hunk said.
“Let’s say hi! They can play with us at the playground!”
Before Hunk could protest, Lance yanked him and started running. The kids were on a patio on the first floor, so it was easy for Lance to make himself known.
“Hullo! Do you wanna play with us? We’re goin’ to the playground.”
The kids both scrambled back then looked at each other. “Call Mommy,” the boy said. The girl went inside then looked at Lance.
“Oh, I wasn’t gonna hurt ya,” Lance said. “We just wanted to know if you wanna play.”
“Mommy says we can’t talk to strangers,” the boy said.
I guess something I notice is that I try to start off with an air of mystery, but idk if I actually manage it? aha, also I like to bring in emotions a lot. Idk, if you guys notice something let me know!
And idk who to tag who enjoys writing, so... if you wanna try this out go for it!

Song are Sung Sweetest in Tears
Ok, so, this fic was requested of me over a year ago. I am actually the worst??? So this is for you @bluelancerobin, you sweet bean. Thank you for being so patient with me and also not hating me guts oh my god
After being thrown down by the level 16 bot for a third time, Keith decided that his training had come to an end for that night. A quick look at the ticker Coran had given him, and the rest of the crew, told the boy it was late at night. It was half past whatever the hell the castle’s simulation of one was. ‘If I don't get to bed soon, people will be able to tell I went to bed late. No way do I want to get heckled by Lance about skincare again.’
It wasn’t so much Keith didn’t like Lance. Don’t get Keith wrong, sure, he could be loud, and his rivalry with Keith could get annoying. It also rubbed Keith the wrong way when Lance was avidly flirting with Allura, but that felt like it was something different. What it was? Keith didn't know. That was the real trouble of Lance to him. There was something about Lance that had Keith’s subconscious nagging him. It had a rosy, sweet feeling to it and that’s what made Keith uncomfortable. He just wasn't used to it, he’d never experienced the feeling before so he didn't know what to classify it as.
Keith shook his head and grabbed his towel off the bench before gathering his bayard and exiting the Training Deck. The ship was so peaceful at night, it relaxed him. After being alone for several months in the desert being around so many voices could get real overwhelming real fast. A factor in Keith’s short temper if he was being honest. But the soothing quiet calmed Keith and gave him space to breathe. It cradled Keith and held him without smothering him. That’s exactly why he immediately homed in on the oaky chords of a guitar coming from a room somewhere down a hall he had never had to walk down before.
Curious, the raven haired boy started down the unfamiliar hallway. He looked around and saw many empty rooms with open doors, it was slightly intimidating. The music was getting louder and as it did he realized that someone was singing along with the sweet notes of the strings. Keith made his footsteps quieter as he approached the end of his hallway into another one horizontal to it. The music was coming from the closest room across the hall to the left. ‘That voice… is that? That’s Lance’s voice!’ The pale paladin pressed himself against the left wall before slowly looking around the corner and peering into the room.
***
Lance had a place he went to when the dark of his room got too suffocating and the biting voices in his mind got too loud. When they first arrived at the castle, Lance spent a lot of time wandering the castle just looking around for cool alien shit. Despite the fact that the paladins had sleeping quarters close by each other, there were other personal rooms. They were far enough away from the main gathering places of the team that Lance didn't have to worry about the others hearing or finding him, at least, not easily or without sharp-ass hearing. This was Lance’s safe haven. The room was large enough to not feel cramped but cozy enough to calm his nerves. He had found some weird alien light strings and hung them up around the room. They radiated in a range from soft blues to warm, cozy creams and they made him feel more safe. He gathered tons of the extra pillows and blankets found in the other extra rooms of the castle. Everything was perfect and there to comfort him. It was his safe place. That meant it was also the place he ended up for most of his breakdowns and the darkest nights in the months that dragged on through space.
When they went back to the space mall, with GAC this time, he and Pidge had made a beeline to the human goods store to find more video games. They found them, but Lance found something far more precious. An old acoustic guitar. It was a dark oak and the bottom had faded waves painted on it, like it was made for him. Lance immediately put back whatever trivial game he had wanted to spend his GAC on in favor of buying the guitar.
As a kid, Lance had always loved the songs his older brother played on his guitar. Even as a toddler, Lance would doddle over to Luis and climb into his lap to listen to him practice his guitar. The day Lance turned eight, he had been upset because he wanted his older brother to play just one song on the guitar before he went off to college. Luis had been gone all the time during the day over the summer so Lance had barely seen him at all, let alone heard him play the guitar. That was, until Luis burst in the front door and made a beeline for Lance, who had been pouting in the corner, consoling himself by shoving his face with the cake his mama had made him. “Hey, Alejandro, I’m sorry I’m late, but I have a surprise for you!” He pulled out a beautiful acoustic guitar. Lance gasped in awe and had tentatively touched it. “I worked all summer to save up and buy you this. I got my guitar on my eighth birthday, so, i figure it was high time you got your very own, hombrecito.” That was the best birthday Lance had ever had. He would skype Luis to learn when he could, and practiced until his fingers were burning every day. It was his favorite hobby, aside from self care. But self care wasn’t really a hobby, it was a lifestyle as Veronica had always said.
Lance reminisce on that day a lot in space, even more after he had gotten the guitar he had swiftly refurbished the second the team had returned from the space mall. After that trip, more often than not, when sleep finally found Lance, the guitar was securely in his arms.
Music was a coping mechanism. As a kid Lance had just liked the pretty notes, but as he got older and experienced more Lance realized how much emotion someone could pour into every corner of music. When Lance was bullied by those asshole kids because he was tall and lanky, music was there when mama and Veronica were at work. When abuela got sick and the whole family thought it might be her last night, music was there to softly strum her to sleep and there to wake her the next day. When Lance had been diagnosed with depression, music quieted his turbulent mind and gave him something else to focus on other than what a worthless son he was. When he was beaten out by one space for fighter pilot by some mullet-headed asshole who refused to even introduce himself when they had been assigned seats next to each other in Calculus II, music had been there to keep his hands off the razor blade in the bathroom medicine cabinet. When Jenny Shaybon rejected him and he was a laughing stock at the garrison for months music had smothered the sound of his sobs and caressed his aching heart.
There was one song that Lance had loved since he was twelve. It perfectly encapsulated his feelings and insecurities that constantly nagged him every waking hour of every sluggish day. It was a song whose lyrics often found themselves slipping past his lips in the otherwise silent night, from his room in Varadero, to his dorm at the garrison, to his safe haven here, now, on the castleship. It was one of the first pop rock songs he put the effort in to wholeheartedly learn. And it was what he sang now as his fingers effortlessly found the chords and slid up and down the frets with a practiced perfection.
“My ship went down in a sea of sound, when I woke up alone I had everything,”
“Lance stop goofing off! We need you up here, not performing stunts for the girls on the planet.” Lance, for one, would love to stop this “stunt” he was pulling. ‘Blue, come on girl, please work for me.’ Blue growled and the controls started flickering back to life, but not before Lance was submerged in an orange soda ocean. When he had managed to get back up to space, there was nothing there but the remnants of destroyed galra battleships.
Cringing, Lance flew back to the castleship and landed blue. When he stepped out the team was waiting for him. “Gee Lance, thanks so much for the backup.” He opened his mouth to explain himself but closed it. His team was right, he should’ve done better. “Whatever,” they turned away from him, “I hope that got you everything you’ve ever wanted.”
“A handful of moments I wished I could change, and a tongue like a nightmare that cut like a blade,”
“Real mature, Lance.” Pidge shot him a glare as he held her laptop high above where she could reach in an attempt to get her to go to bed. It sliced hot against him as they maintained eye contact until she huffed, “Whatever.” and walked away towards her room.
“Come on, Lance! Would it kill you to take ONE training session seriously?” Lance rubbed his eyes and grimaced as the bot went in for a hit at Keith. Lance did his best to aim but he couldn’t sleep the night before and everything was a bit fuzzy. The shot missed the bot by inches and left Keith to take the blow. “Ugh, seriously, Lance?”
“Hey, princess! I was thinking that maybe after the briefing today we could-”
“Lance, please! I do not have time for your silly antics and flirting! How many times have I told you I am not interested?” Lance dropped his head and hid the facemasks he had spent the better part of the day before mixing sheepishly.
“Sorry, princess. I’ll leave you in peace…”
“He started it-”
“Lance! Stop blaming everything on Keith. We all know you’re the one responsible for this mess.” Shiro pointed to the scented, slippery oil spreading over the hallway floor. “Honestly, your tongue is too sharp for your own good.” Lance bit his lip, he had liked that hair product. It was the closest thing he could find to Veronica’s homemade hair serum back on Earth. It wasn't his fault Keith had been studying a blade and bumped into Lance while he was arranging the goods in his arms to carry back to his room. He was on the verge of tears. So, he rushed back to his room.
“In a city of fools I was careful and cool but they tore me apart like a hurricane,”
“Mario is red, Sonic is blue, press start to join and be my player two.” Lance winked at Keith as they walked back from their lions. Keith’s face flashed with an unreadable emotion before his face screwed up and he started turning red.
“First of all, that was terrible. Second of all, Mario was a murderous, sociopathic, animal abuser so if that was your idea of a complement or whatever then you’re crazier than Slav. And, third of all, who would want to be your player two?” After his little tyrade Keith rushed off like he was trying to escape from a thunderstorm, leaving a confused and dejected Lance in his wake.
“A handful of moments I wished I could change, but I was carried away,”
“Lance, dude, I don’t have time for this right now.” Hunk was staring very intently at some sort of alien ingredient that looked like a strawberry except real spiky and also yellow.
“Ah, sorry Hunk, I just thought we could hang out like back at the garrison. It’s been so busy that we’ve barely gotten to hang out at all-”
“Sh sh sh-! I finally found it in the ingredient index! Maybe some other time Lance.”
“Look guys! You’ll never guess what I just found on my computer…” Pidge raced into the commons room and skidded to a halt. The rest of the team looked up at the short girl in interest. “I have the complete Back to the Future trilogy set up and just ready to go. All we need to do is break out the space popcorn and blankets and it’ll be a regular old team movie night!” The rest of the team shared looks of mutual excitement.
“Oh hell yeah!” Lance cheered pumping his fists in the air.
“I’ll get to work on that popcorn right now!” Hunk rushed out of the room.
“Keith and I can go collect the pillows and blankets to bring them to the observation deck.” Shiro stood up and exited the room, Keith trailing after.
“Perhaps I’ll don my evening clothes so as to be extra comfortable for this ‘movie night’ as you called it!” The princess smiled and glided out, Pidge exited behind her to make her way back to the observation deck and hook up her computer. Lance got up to follow Allura’s idea and get into more comfy clothes only to feel a gloved hand grip his shoulder.
“Now hold up there number three, you said you’d be helping me clean the cryopods again tonight. I’m sorry. But, if we get on it maybe we’ll be done within six varga!” Lance was dragged away by Coran. ‘Six varga? But it’ll all be over by then…’
***
Lance’s singing was ethereal. It sounded like the embodiment of every comforting and wholesome family scene Keith had ever witnessed. That is to say it cut down to Keith’s heart and made it ache. He was singing a song the Red Paladin had never pegged him to know, taking Lance for a Beyonce and Rihanna type of guy. So when Keith finally recognized the song as “Therapy” the already nostalgic feel of Lance’s voice combined and made him feel like he was back at the garrison, the same night Shiro had been announced as missing. It was enough to make Keith’s eyes mist up.
However, the emotion in Lance’s voice was far more powerful than Keith was expecting, just listening to it made Keith want to swallow away the lump forming in his throat. It was emotion that he hadn’t thought Lance to possess. A deep, sore, ballad that washed over Keith’s senses. He could feel anguish poured into every word. Keith felt his heart crumbling and splintering apart a little more at each note played. The raw emotion was enough to prevent Keith from being able to look in Lance’s eyes until the chorus.
“Give me therapy, I’m a walking tragedy,” Keith finally looked into the orbs that seemed to be windows into the depths of the sea, only to find them swimming with tears. “But I'm smiling at everything,” They spilled over Lance’s cheeks and raced down his face. His voice broke a bit as he swallowed a sob in favor of continuing to sing. “Therapy, you were never a friend to me,” the lanky boy laughed wetly and without humor as he continued to softly strum the guitar. “And you can keep all your misery,” It was only after this line that the tears in Keith’s own eyes finally fell too.
How long? How long had Lance felt this way, sung by himself in a isolated part of the castle away from his team? When had Lance’s eyes stopped shining with mirth and playful vitality? God, how had none of them noticed. Keith could feel the waves of hurt and hopelessness radiating off the brown-haired boy.
God, he took his frustration out on Lance. Again. He knew it wasn't the tall boy’s fault. He had seen a glimpse of him the day, or rather, night before wandering around the castle clutching his jacket and murmuring in Spanish. Had seen him struggling to keep his head out of his food goo that morning. Was watching him now as he frantically rubbed at his eyes and apologized to Keith, who had just snapped at him for something Lance was doing his best to fix. Why couldn't he just say what he meant? He had to apologize to Lance later.
Keith watched Lance book it away from him and Shiro. “Shiro, what the hell?” The older man looked at him in tired surprise. “It was my fault, I hadn’t been looking where I was going. Why didn’t you let him explain himself?” Shiro’s eyes widened as his face shifted into a a look of abject horror.
“Shit, I… It’s usually him and I just… I was tired and. God, I messed up didn't I.” He ran his hands over his face. “I need to go apologize.”
As Keith hurried away from Lance, he felt, that THING again. Well, that, and embarrassment. He had not handled that well. But would bringing it up again be weird? His insides felt hot and squirmed, remembering the silly pick up line Lance had used. Fuck, this was weird, he should just avoid Lance for a while. He could’ve sworn he heard a whimper from behind him, but it was probably just his mind playing tricks.
Keith stretched, groaning as his joints popped. That had been an entertaining trilogy but he had been sitting around for too long. He got up to go to his room and get ready for bed, only to catch a glimpse of olive jacket. Where had Lance been? He had seemed really excited to watch movies with the rest of the team. But Keith had kept an eye out for the boy and hadn't seen hair nor hide of him all night. “Lance!” Keith called, jogging up to the boy who had turned to face him. “Where’d you go? You missed all three movies man!” Lance scratched the back of his neck and laughed awkwardly.
“Oh, Coran and I had to clean the cryopods. It's fine, I don't really like movies anyway… Uh, I’m kinda tired though, so I'm gonna go to bed. Night, Mullet.” Keith watched him walk away, and couldn't help but notice the way his feet dragged on the floor.
Fuck, how had they been so blind. No, not blind. How could they have ignored how Lance had been feeling for so long. The tears wouldn't stop. Lance continued to sing while Keith watched him from the shadows. “Arrogant boy, love yourself so no one has to,” Lance threw his head up and wailed out they lyrics, his shoulders shaking. “They’re better off, without you, they’re better off without you…” he paused while his sobs racked through him. Fat tears plopped onto the guitar.
Keith couldn't stand this. Every strum of the guitar sliced into his flesh and every and every piercing note he sang stabbed Keith in his heart. “Arrogant boy, cause a scene like you're supposed to, they'll fall asleep without you, you're lucky if your memory remains…” Did Lance think that? Keith thought about every interaction Lance initiated with the group, it was always full of life, like he was cheering them on. Telling them, “Just a little more! We’re a team, we can do this!” Then, did Lance think that they’d all just… forget him if he died? Keith felt sick.
Lance finished the rest of the song, “Therapy, you were never a friend to me! And you can choke on your misery.” Lance’s beautiful singing voice cut out into a anguished shout before he finally gave into the tears. Keith’s legs moved on their own. He turned the corner and walked into the room. Lance looked up, alarmed and futilely swiped at his eyes, finally settling for covering his face.
Keith climbed onto Lance’s nest of pillows and blankets heaped on top of the bed and gently removed his hands from his face. Lance risked a glance up to see Keith’s amethyst eyes overflowing with tears like his own. Keith drew Lance into his arms on instinct, resting his chin on the other boy’s head. Keith had never felt such a strong urge to comfort and protect anyone, except maybe from Red towards him.
Lance stiffened for a few tics and then melted into Keith, wrapping his own arms around Keith’s middle and holding onto his shirt like a lifeline. He continued to softly sob, but now it was muffled by Keith’s shirt. Keith’s hands hesitantly started to make comforting circles into Lance’s back, to which Lance nuzzled a bit into Keith. Oh. Oh. So that’s what it is.
“Hey Lance?” Keith murmured into the tan boy’s hair. Lance made a barely perceptible nod. “I'm so sorry we didn't notice. I'm sorry I didn't notice sooner. We need you, man. You’re a wonderful guy, even if you can be a bit loud sometimes. I-If you, god, if you died? We’d be a mess. I don’t think Shiro could take losing another teammate. Or Pidge another brother. And, I think you can envision how Hunk would react. Dude cries when he stubs his toe! If his best friend died? We all love you Lance. I-I love you.” He swallowed nervously. “Listen, I know I'm not going to fix everything with one shitty speech. B-but, you’ll, uh, never be alone. You have me. O-Oh and the rest of the team too.” God this was a disaster. This is why Keith didn't like sharing feelings and shit. Except? Oh, Lance was chucking wetly into his shirt. The reverberations curled in Keith's chest as warmth spread through his body.
“Thanks, Samurai. I’ll keep that in mind in the future. And, uh,” Lance buried his head further into Keith’s chest, “I love you too.”
Things weren’t going to magically fix themselves, but it was a start. And it was so much better than it had been just a few minutes before. They stayed like that until eventually they fell asleep, leaving the future for the future and letting the two boys to savor the present.

Hopes for S7
I want this to be the season of Lance, Hunk and Pidge. S6 was really heavy on Keith, Shiro, Allura and Lotor, so some balancing of the scale is in order. The Garrison trio have stronger ties to Earth than the others, so let’s focus on them for a change.
Romelle stays with the team! She’s ours now. She can never leave.
The gameshow episode being used to get a lot of unresolved things out in the open, like how much was Allura effected by Lotor’s betrayal, etc. If it’s mostly for fun, cool, but let’s explore some character stuff that might not come up otherwise while we’re at it.
More info on Acxa. And what is this thing between her and Keith already? Is she his half-sister, his love interest, something else? Let’s shed some light on this finally.
I know it looks like the Galra will have already attacked Earth before the team gets there, but I hope they at least get enough of a respite to have reunions with their families and some time at home to just be normal people for a change.
Let us see Iverson’s reaction to the dropout and the three class misfits returning to Earth as galactic heroes flying the most awesome warship in the universe.
Allura. Meets. Lance’s. Family. Just give me this. Please. I will beg if I have to.
Since the VAs shot down the beach episode *sniff*, I’ll settle for Allura having nothing to wear, so Lance’s sister takes her shopping for human clothes. Coincidentally, that can also be where Allura gets...
Tumblr media
...this outfit. We still don’t know who that girl is, but there’s nothing saying that it can’t be Allura in different clothes.
Allura, Coran and Romelle being weirded out by Earth culture. I want to see them completely baffled by the most mundane stuff imaginable, like them staring at an ordinary light switch or a roll of toilet paper and being all, “WTF is that thing?”
The space mice continue trying to keep Lance company. I’d be disappointed if their convo in S6 was a one-off. I really want the mice shipping Allurance to actually go somewhere.
An Allura scene that mirrors the Lance/mice scene. Like Allura’s feeling confused about Lance and (I don’t even care how it happens, I just want to see it) ends up talking to Kaltenecker about it.
Allura stays with Lance’s family while on Earth. This is non-negotiable. I will accept nothing less.
Allura’s magic fails her. I love the girl to death, but let’s be honest, she’s becoming a walking deus ex machina. Her magic can do literally anything the plot needs it to do. This has to be setting her up for something. Unless the writers want Allura to become a living, breathing plot device, there has to come a point when she relies on the magic, trusts it to accomplish any crazy feat, but then she needs it to do something really important and it just doesn’t work, which leads to big time consequences.
Lance gets to use his broadsword. We haven’t seen it once since he unlocked it in S5 and I’m getting awfully impatient. I want to think they’re saving it for a big moment, but IDK anymore.
Jealous!Allura. I’m a sucker for a good role reversal, so maybe Lance runs into Jenny Shaybon when they return to Earth and Jenny’s super impressed with how much he’s grown/matured/etc, which maybe makes Allura a little uncomfortable and she’s not sure why.
This is entirely my headcanon, but I really hope this girl is Jenny Shaybon:
Tumblr media
Give Lance’s breakdown the attention it deserves. Ideally, it would happen in a big episode focused on him like The Black Paladins was for Keith. If this gets rushed or glossed over, I’m gonna be mighty pissed.
Seriously. Enough with Keith stealing the attention from everybody! I’m fucking over it! Let someone else have the Big Damn Hero moment or the huge spotlight episode for a change. Lance and Hunk are still waiting for their turns.
Show us what Voltron weapons the Blue and Green (and I guess Red too, though I’m assuming it’s the duel swords we saw in the SDCC trailer) bayards make FFS. I don’t know why this hasn’t happened yet.
If/when Allurance becomes official - and I’m not really expecting that until S8 - I want there to be more focus on Allura’s side of things since S6 showed it primarily from Lance’s POV. I’m not saying Allura has to make any decisions about it just yet, but let’s spend some time exploring how she feels about it and make her feelings less vague.
Lance gets to talk to Shiro about his insecurities and not figuring out what Shiro tried to tell him in the astral plane. Josh Keaton apparently said they’d talk about something, but we don’t know what. It still bothers me that that build up didn’t seem to go anywhere except Lance feeling guilty about not being able to help Shiro, so at least let it inform his development later.

I asked my mom to name each voltron character and their personality
Lance:
Me: “What’s his name?”
Mom: “I’m trying to think of something sly like, Leo.”
*snorts*
“He’s a player. A big flirt. Like he thinks he’s better than everybody but he’s really not.”
“Anything else?”
“No that’s it.”
“Wow.”
Keith:
Mom: “James”
Me: “JAMES?”
“And ack he’s sad god love him. He may be a bit disgruntled but he looks very sad. I think he seems like a nice guy, you know?”
“Yeah”
“He’s very closed off too. Cause he has his arms crossed. That means you’re closed off.”
Hunk:
Mom: “His name is…….. Patrick.”
Me: *laughing my ass off* “You’re giving them such generic names!”
“So? I like em names.”
*my brother from a distance* “PATRICK LMAO”
“And he looks a wee bit dozy.”
“Dozy?”
“Yeah he doesn’t know what he’s up to. He thinks he knows what he’s doing but he has no clue. He’s a big lug.”
*after being told his name is Hunk* “I like Patrick better.”
Pidge:
Mom: “I’m just gonna give her a name. Jenny.”
Me: “Jen- okay”
“And she looks like she’s a curious wee book worm girl. She’s probably really smart and slightly misunderstood maybe?”
“Is that it?”
“Ay”
Shiro:
Mom: “I’m trying to think of a name for him……….. Ian.”
Me: *trying to hold back laughter*
“Ian and he’s a wee bit scary. He’s like the leader. He’s the one in control of everything, you know? And he seems very… very distant but he wants to be closer maybe? Like he wants to be friendly but he’s gotta play the tough guy.”
Allura:
Mom: “……….Quintara.”
Me: “QUINTARA- at least it’s not something generic.”
“She looks like a princess. She looks… friendly? But a little bit sad or something? Worried maybe. But determined. She’d kill a bitch.”
*laughing our asses off cause FACTS*
Coran:
Mom: “His name is…………………………………….*long pause*…………………………….. Red.”
Me: “Red??”
“Yeah cause his hair. You know? He’s a red head.”
“Why would his name be red because of his hair color?”
“Because that’s the nickname. He’s very stuck up. Very snotty. ‘Mr. know it all.’”
“I can’t.”
“He may even speak with an English accent.”
*pissing myself at this point*
Lotor:
Mom: “….*long pause again*………. Like, fricken Zaltor?”
Me: *choking* “You’re close?”
“He’s a powerful enemy out to kill everybody. He has a dark side but he might have a light side too. He seems a wee bit soft hearted maybe? You know what, he reminded me of the princess. Allura? Yeah he reminded me of her. That, ‘I’m gonna kill. I’m soft hearted but I can kill you.’ and maybe that royalty stance gives off that impression.”
Zarkon:
Mom: *scared look* “Oh jesus……… King Buggaboo.”
Me: “wHAT??”
“I don’t know he looks like a bug! King Buggaboo!”
“THESE ARE THE VILLAINS, WHY WOULD A VILLAINS NAME BE ‘BUGGABOO?’ THAT’S NOT INTIMIDATING AT ALL.”
“True.”
“Try giving him a more intimidating name.”
“Mac.”
*w h e e z i n g*
“He’s like a big Mac Truck.”
“THAT’S NOT BETTER BUT OKAY.”
“He looks like he has a big raspy voice and he’s scary. He’s kinda like Megabyte, you know?” *she’s talking about Megabyte from reboot lmao* “He’s a trickster.”
*after explaining that he’s Lotors dad*
“Oooh…. this- this one, him? THAT’S HIS DAD?? WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO HIM???”
“HAHAHAHAHAHAHA”
Haggar:
Mom: “Ooo she looks like a witch doctor. She’s pretty dark. ‘Evil one.’ Her name’s Voltra.”
Me: “Yeah, VOLTRONS enemys name is VOLTRA.”
“Oh right it’s Voltron. I forgot the name. But she’s a nasty piece of work. There’s no soul in her.”
*me and my brother share a ‘If only she knew’ look*
*after explaining she’s Lotors mom.*
“So Zarkon is her husband.”
“Oh shit. Them two a couple? Fuck.”
