Panini press at the grocery store is broken and she let me know when I ordered my Reuben but the thought of corned beef and sauerkraut was so overwhelming that I ordered it anyway. A cold Reuben isn’t that bad but i underestimated how important the cheese being melted is to the overall textural symphony of the noble sandwich (because I’d never had a cold Reuben before) and I also didn’t realize (again, because the thought of yummy corned beef overrode my logical mind regarding the logistics of making this sandwich) that the lack of panini press also means that the bread is quite tall and raw and fluffy (and it’s rye so it’s a heavy bread despite this) and the ensuing experience of biting through inches of foamy bread to crunch through hard cheese really takes away from the beauty of the Reuben. Overall, I got what I ordered but I shouldn’t have ordered it.
#very modern problems but I know the sandwich warriors on here will understand my sadness#this is the second weird Reuben I’ve had from this place. this is the only one that’s my fault however#the egg salad I ordered on the side is also disappointing#overall 5.5/10 lunch. the pickle was so good.#and rhe corned beef and sauerkraut IS tasty

What each Saw character would get as a Tesco meal deal (scientifically accurate)
Hello everyone, I decided as my debut long Saw shitpost, I thought I would decide what meal deals different Saw characters would opt for if they stumbled into a Tesco and were a bit peckish after setting up a few traps.
If you’re not from the U.K. or Ireland and are not familiar with the British & Irish institutions of a meal deal, it’s basically a packaged sandwich, pasta pot, salad, bit of sushi maybe alongside a snack item and a drink for a fixed price (it used to be around £3/ €4 but the shops are taking the piss now). Meal deals are considered a treasured institution here and are an indication of your personality. People judge your character based on what you get between two slices of cheap bread.
Here’s what different Saw characters would get for a Tesco meal deal:
Adam (Faulkner) Stanheight
1. Southern fried chicken chipotle mayo sub
2. Doritos cheese flavour
3. Vimto still drink
Judging on how we know Adam is quite an unorganised adult struggling to adult most days, I would assume he opts for high energy foods to keep his tastebuds happy. Cheese, spiced chicken and fruity drinks seem up his street. Plus, Vimto is a very Mancunian thing and if Saw was set in the U.K., there’s no way Adam would not be from Manchester.
Dr Lawrence (Larry) Gordon
1. Eat Your Greens Feta Salad
2. Apple & Grape snack pot
3. Chilled Iced Latte
I feel like because Larry is a doctor, he prioritises convenience but also eats healthily. I also imagine him to be meat free/ vegetarian so that explains the feta & greens salad (I don’t think he’d be vegan though, he seems like he loves proper cheese too much). Larry seems like he’d always be carrying breath mints or tictacs to minimise the cheese or coffee breath- nobody needs a waft of that when being told they’ve got 6 months left to live.
Amanda Young
1. BLT sandwich
2. Walkers Thai Sweet Chilli Sensations Crisps
3. Monster Energy drink (chosen based on packaging colours to match mood)
Amanda is a busy lady planning traps and building contraptions designed to almost certainly kill people. She seems like she enjoys a bit of spice along with classic comfort combinations.
John Kramer
- Chicken & bacon sandwich
- Egg snack pot
- Green smoothie
John seems like he’s mindful of what he puts into his body considering he’s consistently a salt & vinegar crisp away from death with the cancer and all. He’s also a very smart man so he would know the best value for money combination with a meal deal is getting an overpriced fruit smoothie for a drink.
Mark Hoffman
- All Day Breakfast sandwich (triple)
- Walkers Max Salt & Vinegar crisps
- Red Bull
Mark seems like he can’t get enough of bacon & sausage, even though it’s cold and not exactly very fresh. Maybe he’d even have a bit of HP brown sauce with it. Mark would also probably make immature jibes towards vegans and vegetarians because he’s that kind of man. Considering Mark works overtime setting up traps and evading capture, all he’d be drinking by the events of Saw 7 would be energy drinks.
Jill Tuck
- Egg & Cress sandwich
- Arla strawberry protein yogurt
- Bottle of water
Jill is a bit… bland. I’m sorry but I just have to say it. Egg & cress perfectly summarises Jill’s personality as seen in movies 4-7 between two pieces of bread.
Peter Strahm
- Deli style cheese & pickle sandwich
- Smoked salmon sushi pack
- Pepsi Max
Strahm made some good decisions, some regrettable ones and one very very dumb decision during his time in the Saw universe. Just like his track record with making poor decisions, I’d guess Peter would get some supermarket sushi as a snack with his meal deal- not very fresh nor authentic and will leave you wondering why you couldn’t have got a pack of reliable crisps or a chocolate bar instead.
Lindsey Perez
- Feta & sundried tomato pasta
- Propercorn sweet & salty popcorn
- Fanta orange
Perez is a great character and so she would get a meal deal to reflect that. Why do I also imagine Lindsey being veggie?
Eric Matthews
- Meatball marinara sub
- Walkers Monster Munch Pickled Onion crisps
- Red Bull
I feel like this choice accurately reflects Eric. It’s a combination that’s maybe reflective of an immature palette, maybe even a sort of guilty pleasure combination. I wonder if he’d put the monster munch hands (or feet) on his fingers and eat them like that.
Hope you enjoyed my incredibly British saw shitpost x

egg salad is really good if you chop the eggs chunky, use good grainy mustard NOT shit neon yellow mustard, and only add the minimum amount of mayo (real mayo) required to barely hold it together. it's less than you'd think btw. way under estimate and then work your way up if needed.
also add pickled onions, maybe some kinda radish (daikon cut into matchsticks), celery, salt, red pepper flakes (not a lot though). and put it on good ass bread that can handle a salad. not the average white sandwich loaf that lacks structural integrity.
final recommendation: toast the bread on bagel mode so only the inside of the bread (touching the salad) is toasted. tender bite with hidden crunch.

I saw a poll about superior breakfast foods and this poll was so American i decided to make my own but Polish (if it's too regional or too personal I'm sorry in advance) so it's just as incomprehensible and unrelatable to people from other cultures as American-centric polls usually are to me LETS GO
A couple of disclaimers :
Disclaimer 1: most of these are elements of breakfast not full breakfast meals. Meats and eggs are usually paired with sourdough bread or rolls, and vegetables: most often fresh or pickled cucumbers, chives or green onion, radish, and tomatoes (usually in summer cause in winter they taste like cardboard).
Disclaimer 2: These are the foods me and my girlfriend from kinda poor families in the South of Poland remember eating growing up in early 2000s. So if your experiences of Polish breakfast are different uhhh I'm sorry?
Disclaimer 3: Never trust articles in English about Polish breakfast foods because they're either complete bullshit or just Polish dishes that would fit an American idea of breakfast: pancakes and potato pancakes or apple fritters are dinner foods here. So are zapiekanki, any kinds of soups (excluding zupa mleczna which was too weird for me to include cause no one ate it out of free will) and stews.
#Poland#whats the polish tumblr tag#polblr#this is dedicated to my polish mutuals and other Central/Eastern Europeans who will maybe relate#if you do pls tell me im curious!#we just poles just love talking to eachother in english and pretend other people will read it

What food did you eat at the Hampton jail roleplay?
Over the last several years, we have tried to reach a compromise between healthy meals and traditional jail meals.
A typical menu at Hampton might be:
Breakfast: coffee, juice, English muffin, scrambled eggs, Sausage
Lunch: Hampton sandwich, pickles, lettuce salad, carrots sticks and a pudding cup or cookies.
Dinner: pasta casserole, steamed vegetables, lettuce salad and a fruit compote.
Special requests for vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, soy free or lactose intolerance are accepted.

been a while since i made one of these and ppl seemed to enjoy them, but here are my cooking endeavors this week:
- made a couple of easy weekday pasta dishes w pesto (finding it tough to go back to the jarred stuff after a streak of making my own). i made 2 different ones w varying things, crumbles of goat cheese or bacon or broccoli or slivers of asparagus or buttered oyster mushrooms or lemon, generally whatever green-ish thing that was looking sad in the fridge
- had a couple of sort of tasty but mostly sad fried fish sandwiches from frozen cod filets i had purchased on accident. used my favorite pickle chips and kewpie mayo and soft white burger buns, pretty much every other element was better than the fish itself which made for a not very delicious dinner but one that got the job done lol
- a plush vanilla layer cake w blackberries swirled into the batter and topped w a vibrant homemade lemon curd and clouds of whipped cream mascarpone frosting and deep purple sugared smashed blackberries and their juices. stained my fingers but was sticky and delicious and summery, would have been great for a tea party if i’d had one to go to
- i made 2 discs of pie dough, one i popped in the freezer for a future cherry pie (my gf’s request) and one for a gruyère, spinach, sausage quiche im making for dinner tonight bc i have an abundance of eggs and a deep love of breakfast food
- i prepped a chicken for roasting tomorrow, it’s now resting uncovered and spatchcocked in my fridge, coated thickly w a rotisserie inspired blend of spices to dry brine. i boiled some waxy yellow potatoes to make it easier to roast them w the chicken tomorrow when i get home from work . simple + easy for my future tired self
- will also be making a cucumber salad to go with the potatoes and chicken bc we have 8 cucumbers (not an exaggeration) to work through and i need a cold crunchy vegetable to eat every day in the warm months or else i shrivel up and die
- planning to use my leftover roast chicken to make either a caesar salad or a caesar salad wrap or something for dinner the day after tomorrow, something easy to make after a long day at work and tbh very little brings me more joy than homemade caesar dressing and cold romaine
- busted out the ice cream maker !! have plans to make both a pineapple sorbet and a toasted coconut vanilla ice cream (sweetened w condensed milk maybe? for the nuttiness?) so then i can swirl the two flavors together in my little bowl :)
#prepping dinners ahead of time is so helpful for me#and it’s so much more relaxing to cook when things are just ready#i love using my days off like that#recovery#recipe

hello dear Jes, I am all out of good meal ideas!! I’m always in awe of your drive to cook and the great-looking meals you create. Any good recs for yummy and relatively easy / quick recipes? thank u 🙏
hello!! yes here are some very easy, low effort low prep recipes i love. the bolded ones are the ones i find myself making most often when i am like wow i do NOT want to cook but if i must do so, i wish to make the easiest thing ever.
shakshuka (all recipes are basically the same! i make it with canned tomatoes to cut down on prep, add a sliced jalapeno to make it spicier, and top it with feta and cilantro. if you are not crazy about eggs my sister often makes it with chickpeas and no eggs!)
thai peanut noodles (you can make as-is but i often add roasted broccoli and air fryer tofu if i have time!)
ricotta pasta with roasted broccoli and chickpeas (i roast the broccoli rather than broiling it as i am afraid of broiling lol but it's very easy and delish)
creamy corn pasta (my beloved)
spaghetti with onion-"bacon", corn, and basil
roasted sweet potato tacos (roast sweet potatoes, warm black beans on the stove with spices, and make easy quick-pickled onions if i have time - then you can add avocado, sour cream, cilantro, and any other toppings you like!)
potato egg and cheese breakfast tacos (i roast or air-fry small-cubed potatoes, scramble eggs, melt cheese into the eggs, and top with the salsa of your choice!)
migas breakfast tacos
tortellini with pesto and roasted veggies
caprese toasts (toast bread of your choice, then add pesto, sliced mozzarella, sliced cherry tomatoes, basil if you have it, and balsamic glaze... my all-time fave easy/no-cook meal)
pesto pasta with frozen peas (another super easy one i make when i want to barely cook at all - you boil the frozen peas in the pasta pot for the last three minutes of the pasta's cook time. then add pesto, grated parmesan, a squeeze of lemon, and halved cherry tomatoes if you have them)
easy asparagus soup (thinly slice a leek and cut 1-2 bunches of asparagus into half inch pieces. melt 3 TBS of butter in your pot, then saute the leek plus 5-6 cloves of garlic for 8 min. add asparagus pieces and 4-6 cups of veggie stock, bring to a boil, salt and pepper, and simmer for 30 min. transfer it all to a blender and blend, then add 1/4th cup grated parmesan and the juice of half a lemon. serve with crusty croutons and sliced chives)
roasted sweet potato & figs dish (you can also make with dried dates if you can't find figs!)
easy chana masala
nectarine, arugula, and feta salad (best in the summer when it's nectarine season but delish all year round... you can also use peaches. i usually serve it on a bed of quinoa so it's more filling/more of a main dish. the basil dressing is to die for i could eat it with a spoon)
avocado & egg sandwich (you can make this on a bagel, english muffin, or bread... just toast your bread, mash avocado onto the bread & sprinkle with red pepper flakes, and then scramble or fry eggs to your liking and put on top)

I was washing dishes and listening to my favorite Jewish podcast, “Unorthodox,” when I was stopped in my tracks by a sandwich. A trendy Israeli sandwich created only a few years ago in Tel Aviv that, rudely, no one had bothered to tell me about! The show’s cohost mentioned it in passing — “challah with schnitzel” — and that was enough to send me straight to the grocery store.
The “Shabbat Sandwich,” named after the Friday night Sabbath when Jews typically eat challah, is thick slices of squishy challah sandwiching crispy chicken schnitzel, fried eggplant, tahini, Israeli pickles and a mighty shmear of matbucha, a Moroccan tomato pepper relish. Preparing this sandwich is a bit of a project, but you can make a lot of the components a day or two in advance.
Be aware that some bakeries only sell challah on Fridays. Instead of slicing the bread, you can also serve it as one giant challah choagie cut up party style!
Notes:
Israeli pickles are typically sold in cans in Middle Eastern markets or online. They are full-sour, far more puckery than a dill pickle, chartreuse and on the softer side of crisp.
Matbucha is a slightly spicy Moroccan tomato-pepper relish often found snuggled up next to other cold salads, spreads and olives on Middle Eastern and North African tables, just waiting to be swiped up with fresh bread or pita. If matbucha sounds new to you, it might be more familiar than you think: it’s also the base for shakshuka! Leftovers can be warmed in a pan and thinned out with a little tomato puree or water before you crack a few eggs in to steam. The matbucha can be prepared a day or two before the Shabbat sandwiches, stored in a sealed container in the fridge.
