The Unfortunate Story of John List

John List was the only child of German American parents born in Bay City, Michigan. His parents' names were John and Barbara List. John grew up in a Lutheran household which led him to become a Sunday school teacher just like his dad. John worked as a lab tech during World War Two. He served three years before being discharged in 1946. John went on to earn a bachelor's degree in business administration. He then earned a master's degree in accounting.

John was called back into active duty in 1950 due to the advancement of the Korean War. He met a woman named Helen Taylor while stationed in Virginia. They began a romantic relationship and got married in December of 1951 in Baltimore. The two decided to live in California. Due to his work as a successful military accountant, John was reassigned to the Finance Corps.

John completed his second tour in 1952. He went on to work as an accountant in Detroit. He later took a job as an audit supervisor in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This is where he and Helen raised three kids together. John became a general supervisor by 1959.

Unfortunately, Helen suffered from alcoholism. She became increasingly unstable over the years. Her daughter (before she met John) Brenda, moved out of the family home in 1960. The rest of the List family moved to Rochester, New York where John was offered a job with Xerox. After becoming the director of accounting services, John accepted a job as Vice President and comptroller of a bank in New Jersey. This is where the family moved into a large estate in Westfield, New Jersey named "Breeze Knoll." The home was a 19 room victorian mansion.

John decided to kill his entire immediate family on November 9, 1971. When the kids left for school that day, he shot Helen in the head. She was 46 years old at the time. He then went upstairs where he shot and killed his mother Alma who was 84 years old at the time. Then John decided to sit and wait for his kids to come home from school. Patricia and Frederick List were the first to arrive. The were 16 and 13 years old. John shot and killed them both. Afterwards, John proceeded to make himself lunch, run to the bank to drain his mother's accounts, then went to the local high school to watch his eldest son John Jr. play soccer. When John Jr. was finished playing, John drove them both home. John attempted to shoot his son shortly after they entered the home, but the gun misfired. This gave John Jr. a chance to fight back against his father. But it was to no avail. John shot him several more times. John Jr. was the only victim to be shot more than once.

After the murders, John placed the bodies of his family into sleeping bags and lined them up in the ballroom of the family home. However he had to leave his mother’s body upstairs, claiming she was too heavy to drag downstairs. John then sat down to write a five page letter to his pastor stating that he killed his family to “save their souls.” He proceeded to try cleaning up the scene, but he also eerily cut his face out of all of the family photos in the home. He turned the radio all the way up, turned on every light in the house, and left without a trace to start a new life.

The bodies of the List family weren’t discovered until around a month after the murders. The neighbors weren’t suspicious at first, because the Lists tended to keep to themselves. John wrote letters to his kids schools and jobs to explain that he was taking the family out of town on a trip. He canceled the milk, mail, and newspaper deliveries. Neighbors finally alerted authorities when the lights in the home started burning out.

Investigators started by examine the outside of the house and determined that nothing seemed amiss. Police returned on December 7th after getting a call from Patricia’s drama coach when she couldn’t get an answer at the door while trying to pick Patricia up for her lesson. Police entered the home through a small window in the basement, and found the bodies.

This crime was the most notorious felony in New Jersey since the kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby. There was a nationwide manhunt issued for John. The family car was later found at JFK airport, but there was no evidence that John ever got on a plane.

Breeze Knoll was eventually burned down nine months after the murders. The fire was ruled as an arson but is still unsolved. A new house was built on the land in 1974

John took a train from New Jersey to Michigan, and then to Denver where he settled in 1972. He got a job as an accountant and started using the alias Robert Peter Clark. He joined his local Lutheran church. It was while attending this church that he met his next wife Delores Miller. They got married in 1985. The couple moved to Virginia in 1988, and John got a new job there as an accountant.

An episode of America's Most Wanted covered the List murders in 1989. A forensic artist assembled a bust of an age progressed John. This bust was eerily similar to John's current appearance. Less than two weeks after the show aired, John was arrested. John denied his true identity for months. He was extradited to New Jersey in 1989. John didn't admit to being who he was until February of 1990.

During the trial, John admitted that the family was struggling financially after he was laid off from work in 1971. However, he kept his unemployment a secret from his family. He would leave for work at the normal time, but just spend the day reading the newspaper at a local train station. He made ends meet by stealing money from his mother's bank account. Some of the List children had taken on part time jobs to help out the family.

During the trial, John was diagnosed with OCD. John was too proud to accept welfare, so he saw his only financial option to be killing his family, sending them to heaven, and starting a brand new life.

John was convicted of five counts of first degree murder on April 12, 1990. He was quoted saying, "I feel that because of my mental state at the time, I was unaccountable for what happened. I ask all affected by this for their forgiveness, understanding, and prayer." The judge responded, "John Emil List is without remorse and without honor. After 18 years, 5 months, and 22 days, it is now time for the voices of Helen, Alma, Patricia, Frederick, and John F. List to rise from the grave." John was sentenced to five consecutive life sentences. This was the maximum penalty at the time. John quickly filed for an appeal, but was equally as quickly denied.

John admitted during an interview with Connie Chung in 2002 to not considering suicide as another viable option because it would bar him from entering heaven where he hopes to reunite with his family someday.

John died at the age of 82 in 2008 from a bad case of pneumonia. He was being held in New Jersey at the St. Francis Medical Center. He has since been referred to as "The Boogeyman of Westfield."

Alongside the Rebel Legion modeling groups were set up with some amazing character and ship models as well as collector groups." Obi-Wan, Cody, Anakin, Rex and the clones battling countless Battle and Super Battle droids as well as spider droids on the world of Christophsis. Anakin and Rex make a very dramatic and unconventional flanking move to turn the tide of the battle against the droids. Several clones lost heads or limbs and became cannon fodder. The next clip was a fun clip with Anakin and the new character Ahsoka. Anakin's padawan (who rivals Padme and Leia with her wit and character) attacking a Separatist outpost atop of a mountain. "Race you to the top!" The massive AT-TE actually ascending the mountain, the battle droids are zany almost a stooge quality or a Gomer Pyle shtick. I loved how the battlefield is turned on its side as 'sky guy' and 'snips' race to the top. I think fans will love Ahsoka, she is a very cool character. The third clip was Kenobi and Asajj Ventress in a fierce lightsaber duel with Kenobi's famous quips that ended with Kenobi at the business end of Asajj's lightsabers. The Clone Wars looks amazing...on all levels." "The Fetts, Vader, Chewie, Skywalker, John Knoll and Dave Filoni panels were great. Steve Sansweet mc'd most of them. The English to Japanese translation took a little patience and the Celebration Japan fans went wild for Mark Hamill." Mary Franklin "Producing a Celebration in Japan was a unique challenge, because it was the first of the Celebrations in which most of the staff and crew did not speak English, and I do not speak Japanese. Even though we did not share a common language, we shared a common goal: putting on a great experience for Star Wars fans. We carried on together for the best possible outcome." Chris Gereke "The front middle of the Celebration Japan floor was the family recreation area where families could do crafts or Lego and buy toys from the coin vending machine. Beside that was the Jedi training stage where padawans could test their Jedi skills against Darth Vader and two of his Stormtroopers. The stage was lined by the Family Mart vendors where you could purchase food. Especially cool were the Pepsi Bear Kubricks that came with Pepsi."

When Wikipedia Inadvertently Leads You to Massive TUA Realizations

Alrighty-dighty i've decided i'm gonna post this here because now i actually have somewhere other than my AO3 that works!

im just gonna copy this down.

Let's give some context first. Season 1--episode 4. Man on the moon.

I'm sure you all remember that one, it was pretty painful--but also had so much beautiful, beautiful Klaus development that seriously made my heart sing.

And it all started with Ben and, most importantly in this theory, Zoya Popova. She was the first ghost Klaus had talked to besides my darling Ben in who knows how long, and the first ghost in the long line of Hazel and Cha-Cha's victims that he would end up talking to in hopes of escape.

Zoya Popova. She was Russian, older, wearing a headscarf known as a babushka, and she'd been killed by the commission thanks to their BS rasion d'être.

We all liked her. She was a very likeable character, despite not having a whole lot of screen time. This was thanks in no small part to her tragic backstory and distinction as the non-Ben ghost who arguably kickstarted Klaus' journey towards accepting his powers.

But we never did find out why she died. We never did figure out what she did that caused the commission to deem her a threat to the timeline. We never even learned when she'd lived.

Season 2

I'm sure you all remember Diego's obsession with his asshole father's connection to the Kennedy murder.

And i'm sure you all may have noticed that plot line was never quite resolved.

(to be honest though, that was hardly top of mind after the crap-loads of crazy we were gleefully showered with. Heck, we learned Reggie was an alien and we all basically did that John Mulaney quote and just breezed right on bye with barely a second glance)

But yes, the last we see of Reggie in the sixties is him peeling off his face and going to murder a bunch of shadow government figures. Fun times.

And the last we hear about his role in the assassination is his little monologue before he kills them--and the reveal of his driver's identity as the Umbrella Man.

so, yeah. it's very much implied, but not confirmed, that Reggie had some role.

The entire series.

The Commission wants to cause the apocalypse for some twisted-ass reason.

Viktor causes the apocalypse both times we've seen it so far.

and it's all thanks to Reggie's asshole-er-y and beyond S****Y parenting.

Now why don't you take a look at this? (I'll summarize below in case you don't feel like it)

Babushka Lady

basically, to summarize, the so called "babushka lady" is a figure present in many eyewitness accounts and films (including the Zapruder footage) of the assasination, and she had her camera raised the exact moment Kennedy was shot. In other words, she very well could have taken a photo that proved the existence of a conspiracy. after the assasination, she joined the crowd that left via the Grassy Knoll

Her identity is unknown, and the only thing known about her appearance is that she was wearing a babushka, hence her alias.

She never came forward.

And yes, I'm claiming that Zoya Popova was Babushka Lady.

Ok, hear me out. If Reggie was indeed involved in the assassination (which he almost definitely was) and Zoya Popova was indeed babushka lady, and she had indeed taken a photo that would have proved his involvement, what would have happened?

Well, assuming she'd turned it over to the police, I'm assuming that would be more than enough to put reggie behind bars for years. Not even political connections can do that much for you when the evidence is that solid and the crime so severe and high profile.

So let's say Reggie is convicted, scentenced to what will likely be no small amount of jail time.

And what does that make him unable to do?

Yes. It makes him unable to adopt our darling Hargreeves children.

It makes him unable to traumatize Viktor

And under those circumstances--Viktor, untraumatized, with a likely loving family that was not pitted against each other by a complete dickhead--there is a very low chance he'd ever break.

There's a very low chance he'd ever cause the apocolypse.

So what's the commission to do? If Zoya releases those photos, the domino effect essentially completely negates any chance the 2019 apocalypse will come to pass.

So they dispatch Hazel and Cha-Cha, and they kill Zoya, destroy the camera, make sure those photos never see the light of day.

Boom, Reggie's secret is safe and the apocalypse is back on track.

And that, dear reader, is how i think Zoya died.

Ok, did that make sense??? Like, i think there's a real chance this could be true. If so, then seriously PROPS to the umbrella academy team for this because the level of detail is simply astounding here. Like seriously I'm so impressed.

And if you doubt that they'd put so much detail into the show for a character who only appeared for a moment?

Well.

Eyewitness accounts also mention seeing what looked like "smoke or flashes of light" from the Grassy Knoll, right before the shooting.

And in TUA, what happened at the Grassy Knoll right before the shooting?

Oh, nothing much. Just two versions of Five duking it out with no small amount of teleporting involved.

The Kennedys were no strangers to organized crime. In fact, some believe the mafia helped JFK steal the election in 1960 by securing votes in the key state of Illinois. However, another conspiracy theory has the political dynasty at odds with the mob.

This theory hinges on the fact that Kennedy was unsuccessful in overthrowing Fidel Castro in Cuba, meaning the mafia-run casinos remained shutdown, and that his brother, Robert Kennedy, was cracking down on the mob in his role as attorney general, pursuing a case against Jimmy Hoffa.

6. Testimony of eyewitnesses

According to some assassination researchers, the grassy knoll was identified by most witnesses as the area from where shots were fired. In March 1965, Harold Feldman wrote that there were 121 witnesses to the assassination listed in the Warren Report, 51 of whom indicated that the shots that killed Kennedy came from the grassy knoll, while 32 said the shots originated from the Texas School Book Depository. In 1967, Josiah Thompson examined the statements of 64 witnesses and concluded that 33 of them thought that the shots emanated from the grassy knoll.

SDay 49, seven weeks. Saturday, October 16. 205 miles. Saint Johns, AZ to Mesa, AZ

It's 7 a.m. and 28 degrees outside. Gonna be in the mid-nineties in Mesa this afternoon - 65 degree swing :).

Took off headed for the tree filled thru Payson route instead of the Highway 60 canyons route. Got to the small town of Concho, where the two routes meet, slowly rode around a bend and this very cool little Catholic Church appeared. Photo Op! I take a few pics while on the bike, start to ride off and I hear someone yelling Hey!, Hey!, look over and here comes a man in a brisk walk coming my way.

He tells me the church is open if I'd like to come in. So I did. Very cool little church. He asked me if I was Catholic, I said no, he said, 'that's ok. come on in'.

Joe Trujillo is the caretaker of the San Rafael Church, a Farrier & Blacksmith, a well versed local historian. He and his wife live off the grid atop a knoll just outside of town. Nicest, kindest, gentlest man you could ever meet. 45 minutes later I took his advice and changed my route to go down thru the Highway 60 canyons instead of the tree lined Payson route.

I'd hooked up dinner plans with my friends Shawn and Jackie near Mesa that evening so I needed to gitty up. Shawn and I sat at the Horizon big table together for dang near 20 years. We've been through a lot professionally and personally together.

The 75 + mile ride from Show Low to Globe was one of the best roads and scenery I've ridden. Just outstanding in both regards. Loved the ride. Breathtaking landscape. Was thanking Joe in my helmet thru each canyon.

Shawn, Jackie happened to be in Mesa late afternoon, so they graciously picked me up at my Airbnb, which is very nice. Their son Matt met us at their house. Beautiful home by the way - pool, outdoor kitchen, side yard bar, dang near a full on apartment basement, very homey.

Shawn perfectly grilled up incredible Wagyu filets for us all. We caught up, told stories, watched ASU lose to Utah :( - had a fun evening together. Was great to see them. I left with a gifted bottle of wine, a small flask of one of Shawn's favorite whiskeys, and a warm smile. Matt dropped me off on his way home.
