This may surprise some people, but I actually had not read the Harry Potter books in English before, and my last reread in Dutch had been a while ago as well.
But I was writing a fanfic about Percy and I wanted to get Percy's personality at least somewhat correctly, so I decided to spit through my HP ebooks in English to find the scenes he appeared in and wow.
First of all, I already loved Percy's character, and I have never liked the Weasleys treatment of Percy (and honestly, most of the treatment Molly gave her children was pretty unhealthy) but this reread made me feel even worse for him because DAMN.
The was his siblings and Harry view him is ridiculous, and it became ESPECIALLY appearant in this reread.
In the first book, there clearly still was love between Percy and the twins, literally all of their interractions were fuelled by love, and you could tell the twins just wanted Percy's attention, and he was willing to not spend time with his friends in order to give them that attention often enough. Pure sibling relationships there. Of course, Harry, not being used to sibling dynamics thought they were serious and that Percy really couldn't care less about them.
Also, noticed how I said Percy had friends? It is constantly mentionned how Percy spent most of his time with the other prefects and he likes spending time with them, that clearly points to them being friends, and Fred and George know this, but they are younger siblings, and younger siblings like pretending their older sibling doesn't have a life. Again, Harry took their words literally and he started assuming Percy didn't have friends or a life, despite plenty of evidence to the contrary.
And then we get to the second book, and already, Harry is JUDGEMENTAL as HELL in his internal narrarations. Like when he sees Percy coming towards them after they crashed the car, he immediately assumes Percy is there to lecture them, rather than to check Ron is okay...
Then, we see throughout the book that Percy is worried about Ginny, he makes her drink pepper-up potion. Harry somehow sees this as him "Bullying her into drinking it." Which... What? Is looking out for the health of your eleven year old sibling "bullying"?
Later on, when Percy mentioned thaf Ginny was upset over the notion that people suspected Ron and Harry were behind the petrifications and that they might be expelled, Ron manages to accuse Percy of caring only about his chances if getting Head Boy, rather than Percy maybe caring for Ginny, which... again, WHAT?
Also, Harry interprets literally all of Percy's words as said 'Pompousley', 'briskly' etc.
They kept comparing Percy to Tom Riddle because Percy DARED to tell them off for BREAKING the RULES. Seriously, what did they expect?
And then, they KNEW that Percy was close with the other prefects, and somehow people were still surprised when Percy was upset Penelope was petrified? Even if nobody knew the two were dsting yet, it wasn't as if it was a secret that Percy had friends...
Also, friendly reminder that both Percy and Bill went for 12 NEWTS, and that without a time turner, while Hermione needed one just to attend to all her exams in her 3rd year when she tried to go for her 12 OWLS. Seriously, Percy kept being belittled for being proud of his achievements, but he honestly deserved a lot more praise.
And these are just some examples of the first 2 books in which Harry's views on the situation do not align, or directly oppose what any sensible person would think of Percy's actions.
It's not so strange that people on their first read would dislike Percy, as Harry's wording makes it INSANELY easy to dislike him, but I can assure you that when you pay close attention to everyones actions towards Percy, you'll notice a lot of inconsistencies.

ctrl-del-elements
So, I talked about the most literal part of setting: the place, of my alt-Bionicle Canon, but there's more to setting than just place. There's also metaphysics.
The official Bionicle canon makes a lot of elemental powers: six for the main Toa/villages/Metru, but way more than that on the fringes (other than the Av-Matoran and -Toa, do any of the other secondary elements figure into sets?). So how many for my version? The Six? The Seven? The whole boatload?
The whole boatload is too much and my preference, here if nowhere else, is to simplify. The duplication of Earth/Stone has bothered me forever, so here's a chance to address that. The Water/Ice situation never struck me in the same way, since I was willing to see Ice as more the element of “Cold” than of “a Different Kind of Water,” but I’m willing to condense them too.
Definitely present in the back of my mind here is Avatar: The Last Airbender and the four elements there. I rewatched the show shortly before my recent Bionicle Renaissance took off again and it is definitely a lingering influence on my thinking. The fact that the creators of Bionicle originally meant to go with the same four elements (and expanded it when they were told the machines would be as happy at six) is an influence.
Taking a cue from ATLA, then, I am also of the mindset that although the other “elements” might fit, they’d be specialties or sub-cultures within a broader element. Thus, Fe-Matoran (Iron Matoran) are just another sub-culture of Earth-Matoran, not unlike the Po-Matoran.
Although “the six tribes/toa/wahi/metru” are still very much part of my mindset, this is much more cultural than elemental. It’s possible that the Po/Onu distinction has a history in something like the Matoran Civil War (off-hand, I can’t remember if they were on opposing sides or not): not fought between different elements, but a true civil war fought by members of the same tribe. If I were guessing, the Po-Matoran lost and were banished “out” of the Earth, but it might also be the the Onu-Matoran were literally driven underground.
The Ga/Ko divide is less likely to be historical and more likely to be philophical/aesthetic or even environment-driven. Water-Matoran in the colds of Ko-Metru naturally develop an ice-culture, or the differences between scholars and teachers are emblematic of their two different states of being--one builds up knowledge in a sharp, distinct, solid form; the other is fluid, moving, cleansing.
The various other Real Canon elements are not generally something I’ve thought about, other than that I know Plantlife and Psionics don’t exist in my Alt-Canon. Those have never struck me as “elemental” powers, let alone ones I can fit into the base four. That doesn’t mean that these don’t exist, but they are mask powers not elemental ones.
I should look at the other lesser-known elements and consider how/if they fit at some point, but I’ll end this post on the Av-Matoran. These are a special case, and I go back and forth on whether they exist or not. I know that the Toa of Light, at least, does.
After all, it’s the Avokhii that puts the “av” in “avatar.”

HAPPY 20TH ANNIVERSARY TO HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER'S STONE AND HAPPY BACK TO HOGWARTS DAY! ✨
Today, in Harry Potter world, a new school year begins at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
This year is also the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
There are many fun facts about the first adaptation of the saga written by J.K. Rowling.
One of them is that Harry has different eyes color. While in the book he has green eyes, in the movie the actor Daniel Radcliffe who plays him has blue eyes. The creators of the movie tried to stay true to the book description of the character but couldn't.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do you know why they couldn't stay true to the book description?
In this article, there are some interesting explained fun facts about the movie directed by Chris Columbus.
Do you know all of them?

— a small collection of thoughts about malfoy,
Tumblr media
he was immediately sorted into slytherin just as a child, just as draco was in the philopher’s stone. cruel cunning, inextinguishable ambition, and the willingness to do whatever is necessary to achieve his own ends is the miriam-webster definition of ‘lucius malfoy.’  check a dictionary, i’m not lying.
the hat’s decision also came about with his family history – heritage, after all, is everything to the malfoy family. malfoy’s father and his before him, etc, have boasted a proud and pure wizard bloodline. the importance of wizard blood and maintaining its purity is of utmost importance to malfoy. pureblood supremacy is an ideal he will take with him to his grave.
draco would be honestly disowned if he had any serious interest in anyone with a drop of non-pure wizarding blood. really, lucius malfoy will cut off his son for failing to uphold their legacy.
despite everything, he LOVES his son. something that truly shines in the final book. jason isaac’s malfoy might have been portrayed as more obviously abusive – though never so far as violently abusive, of course – compared to the malfoy of the books. but while lucius’ parenting is carried out with no lack of viciousness and strictness, there is an unconditional love there. he is rather incapable of expressing it properly, however, given that he was raised in the same manner. it is the only form of fathering he has known, and draco is a spoilt child who receives love from his father in a distant and cold sort of form: through malfoy gold and prestige.
don’t marry muggles or muggleborns or be gay still tho thats not the malfoy way
basically an okay attempt at dad-ing but with bad priorities and really fucking bad ideals to start out with.
lucius post-books might be more inclined to ignore his son for a Very Long Time rather than fully disown him but that’s certainly a way to snap the brittle sort of love lucius is capable of showing u, draco
tldr; malfoy loves his son but he loves his legacy and the malfoy tradition just as much if not more. sorry, but they are the RULES that his life revolves around.
notice that draco, even in youth, acted out against his father’s own suggestions and criticisms. lucius malfoy is not an unforgiving father, though he is cold in his strictness and will not be verbally easy on his son. he definitely toes the line of verbal / emotional abuse, but this is not a constant.
‘ my father will hear of this ’  is not spoken without weight, because lucius will do anything for his spoilt son. he will pull strings, get fucking political, he will threaten people for his son
what i’m saying is that he loves draco even if he has extremely shitty moments of parenting and he’s just not a good model at all, nor can he show proper and paternal emotional love
lucius malfoy is everything wrong with the wizarding world: he is racist  ( well, the wizard equivalent of it in regards to for muggles and muggleborns / anything related ), a perpetuator of house elf enslavement, a classist. An old money bastard who isn’t against degrading others for their lack of it.
born poor? your problem, you had the gall to be born into a poor family
‘ haha weasleys did u sell ur house for top box tickets? hey weasleys did u know ur POOR? well you’re about to get reminded because i’m lucius malfoy and i’m rich and i also have no lack of insults for your lack of money ’
honestly just take his insults because you can’t do shit abt it. if you dare to remember you have dignity as a person, just remind yourself that he’s a bastard with influence everywhere and that he is not above ruining your life.
lucius' interests, above all, are his own – he has no true sense of loyalty  ( though he does, as said, operate with the malfoy family tradition and his own idealogy as the basis for his standards, standards which he shall never brush aside regardless of the circumstances ). self-preservation comes above all else, as shown as his back-and-forth between voldemort and the death eaters and the rest of the wizarding world.
he is not at all above putting anyone or anything into harm’s way for his own purposes  ( barring serious harm or disrespect to his own family, as proven by his betrayal to voldemort for his son’s sake ). and yes!! he will bully children.
however, one scene i refuse to accept from the movies is his attempt to legitimately kill harry potter for giving his house elf a sock. malfoy was indeed angry that he had been outsmarted by a 12 year old boy, but the chamber of secrets give no indication that malfoy approached harry with any intent to kill – malfoy merely ‘lunged at harry’ instead of attempting the killing curse.
the movie is just stupid, sorry.
has heterosexual evil energy
no, pretty hair and lovely face doth not maketh a gay. lucius malfoy is extremely het and ruins children’s lives. you can’t ask me for more proof than that.

Ora sto leggendo il secondo episodio della saga (“H.P. and the Chamber of Secrets”). Mentre lo leggo, lo traduco mentalmente e lo racconto alla piccola. E ora ci trasferiamo dal racconto al film, sperando che non si perda troppo nel passaggio dalle nude parole alla magica ridondanza del cinema.

Fullmetal Alchemist Liveblog Ep. 12
Fullmetal Alchemist Ep. 12: The Other Elric Brothers Part 2
Oh, the whistle was just other people hearing all the commotion in the room with Ed and Not Ed arguing.
Ooh, Fletcher! Look at you being crafty! Whoo! Go Fletcher!
Daww! "You can blame me, brother" Baaaahh! So many tears!
Annnnddd theme song!
Not Ed, you're a bit of a hypocrite, telling your bother not to experiment with alchemy. I think I like Ed and Al's relationship better.
Contingency plan? Just from the way he said that, I can tell he's a bad guy.
Yup, there he goes, trapping the other brothers. Oh! So word about Ed's metal hand and (possibly) Al's suit of armor *has* gotten around.
lol And there's Uncle B, who knows *exactly* what they are up to. Because of course he is. Because Uncle B is awesome like that.
Oh, I think my prediction about the little girl getting better may be wrong after all. That cough does *not* sound good. And it wouldn't be the first episode where they killed off an adorable little girl.
Okay, so it looks like there is no alternate reality or time travel plotline (which is probably a good thing) and they probably don't have the same dad (there go my Northern Exposure dreams), but I *do* wonder if Nash Tringham and Ed's dad knew each other/worked together.
So... Nash realized what a bad idea it was to work on the red water thing (possibly accidentally killed his wife or somebody else he loves?) and that's why he told his boys not to go into alchemy. lolol the dad who says don't do it gets a son who wants to be just like him and that doesn't gets a son who hates his guts.
So he got pulled into Mugear's schemes and probably gave his life to them one way or another. Possible Mugear held him prisoner too.
So now they're going to go looking for Marcoh in the hope of finding the philosophers stone.
Nash's whole storyline is another example of just how much this show is about sacrifice.
lol Ed, I love how you keep talking about how selfish everyone else is and not realizing how similar you look.
Huh. Dubbing has Not Ed saying, "you said he left here alive," while subtitles say, "you said he died of the illness." Either way, it's clear that Mugear killed him. Jerk.
Lust (assuming this is Lust again) is very good at getting everybody else to do her dirty work without actually touching anything.
Nah nah nah nah nah. "I think I can handle a couple of kids." Idiot. Go Ed! Now kick some ass, rescue the other boys and get outta there! (Ain't gonna happen. Something will complicate that plan. For sure.)
lol Is Ed trying to scare the shit out of him on purpose? I love this. I don't think that he actually has intentions to kill them. He wouldn't do that.
I wonder what's going through Al's head though. Like... was he part of this plan, or is Ed improvising?
"I can tell you you're not going to find happiness by chasing the philopher's stone" (subtitles) "Live your own life and stop all the acting!" You know Ed, that's some pretty good advice there. *nudge nudge*
nah nah nah nah nah nah Ed figured you out, Mugear. Idiot.
And now Mugear's gonna use his fancy dancy I-don't-need-alchemy gun and the Nash brothers are going to come to the rescue! YAy!
Oh, so there are a lot of red stones. And Not Ed isn't the only one who's been using them (are we ever gonna find out his real name?)
This show rather likes its machine guns... even though aside from baddies creating them alchemically, there isn't any other sign of firearms. Odd.
YAy! Nashes to the rescue! Thank you Nashes! But wait! Did they actually kill someone? I hope not.
Aww, Fletcher looked so happen when Russell (he has a name! he has a name!) said they're not going to chase their dad's dream any more. Daww! Fletcher is so cute!
Oh, they didn't kill him. He got away. Maybe I shouldn't have hoped.
It doesn't look like he forgot who he's dealing with. It looks like he knew exactly who he's dealing with and planned this.
Did he just say "diminutive?" Oh no he di'n't!
Annnd... that would be a cave in
And evil has brought its own downfall.
Ed, I don't think you're going to be able to hold back this tidal wave
Aww, was the detoxification Fletcher's idea? He is soooo cute! And may be an alchemist yet.
Of course, that's not going to be very good for those trees. Poor trees :(
But brotherly bonding! Also Fletcher is apologizing to the trees! Bwaaaaa!!!
Daww!! Agricultural alchemy! Then they can grow crops and develop a new economy!
"Tell me Ed, are you still going to hunt for the philosopher's stone after this. 'cuz I met this alchemist recently who gave me some pretty sage advice..."
A letter? Okay, I'm calling it. It's a lemon pie recipe.
Damn, I lost that one. tv show-3, me-4. It was a long shot, but worth it. Also, Russell being a year younger than Ed is fan-f*ing-tastic (I laughed so hard at that I scared my cat! Sorry Pounce!)
Predictions:
Ed and Al will, at some point, go looking for Marcoh
Lust will continue her plans with other people
Belsio's farms will prosper thanks to the Nash boys pursing their own research rather than continuing their father's.
Questions:
Why doesn't Ed need a transmutation circle? (I should really start copy/pasting this one from my other posts)
What is Lust's endgame?

so absolutely no one asked but calliope and lucas?? Yes.
They met in ‘high school’ and have basically been dating from that day on. She is the BOB’s oldest member after Lucretia and Dav, given the Millers never officially joined.
Calliope has a soft spot for Lucas but they agree their work is keeping them apart and maybe it’s best to just break up. Then Maureen dies and they get back together because Calliope cannot watch Lucas cry like that.
This whole time he’s been trying to figure out how to get Maureen back, but it’s not until Calliope tells him about the Philopher’s Stone that he really gets the idea.
Crystal Kingdom is rough on Calliope.
