The empire of Reverend Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church (UC) may have acquired a new colony. A Moon front group and the University of Bridgeport (UB) in Bridgeport, Connecticut, signed a deal which cedes majority control of the UB board to Moon's Professors World Peace Academy (PWPA) in exchange for an infusion of as much as $50 million into the financially troubled institution.

PWPA, while acknowledging Moon's Unification Church (UC) as the source of almost all its funding, professes autonomy. This claim is belied by a secret agreement between UB and PWPA. Once in control, PWPA plans to integrate the University's programs into the "broader Unification Movement." PWPA, the agreement reveals, with its worldwide links, will also help fund UB by spearheading "recruitment [which] initially will focus on students from the Soviet Union and the Far East." Before coming to the US, however, students may have to undergo a 30-day Moon indoctrination.

That infusion of Moon values will not be necessary for many new members of the recently announced UB board of trustees. Many are PWPA leaders and most have a long involvement with Moon academic and political fronts; at least one is an ex-spook.

Jack Thomas served 30 years in the Air Force, with the last six years as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence. After retiring with the rank of major general, he spent nine years as the Special Assistant to the Director of Central Intelligence and "was then a consultant on intelligence matters in the Office of the Secretary of Defense."

Richard Ichord is a former Congressperson (D-Mo.) who chaired the House Committee on Internal Security (1969-75). Currently, he is a lobbyist for defense contractors, and since 1987, co-chair of Moon's main political front, the American Freedom Coalition.

Neil Salonen was president of the Unification Church (U.S.) in the 1970s and figured prominently in the Koreagate scandal. He was also President of the Freedom Leadership Foundation (an affiliate of the World Anti-Communist League), which carried out covert political operations on behalf of the Nixon White House and the Korean Central Intelligence Agency. Salonen is Vice-Chair of PWPA and President of its parent group, the International Cultural Foundation, where he also oversees Paragon House, the Washington Institute for Values in Public Policy, and the International Conference on the Unity of the Sciences.

Phillip V. Sanchez was U.S. Ambassador to Honduras under Nixon and to Colombia under Ford and Carter. He is currently publisher of Moon's Spanish language daily in New York, Noticias del Mundo, as well as Vice President of the American Freedom Coalition.

Also on the board are several Moon-linked academics who lobbied heavily for the UB takeover, notably PWPA leaders Morton Kaplan of the University of Chicago, and Richard Rubinstein of Florida State University.

The high-profile, Moon-loyal composition of the board is typical of UC operations. "Moon's modus operandi," charged former Moon leader Steven Hassan, "has always been to establish a front group, get some legitimate names attached to it, then use the names to establish its own credibility."

Trying to block finalization of the deal is the Coalition of Concerned Citizens. This strong group of alumni and civic leaders charges that UB ignored other, more attractive options for bailing out UB. The UB-UC association, they argue, will compromise academic and religious freedom and pose serious, ongoing problems for the city of Bridgeport.

Ultimately the courts may decide. A lawsuit is being filed against the university to stop the deal, and the Connecticut Attorney-General is also looking into the legitimacy of the takeover. Although a private university, UB has a state charter which insists that the school remain "non-sectarian." In light of Unification control and Moon's well-documented vision of himself as the Second Coming ready to lead a global theocracy - a secular future for UB under Moon's leadership would take a miracle.

I restarted my rp account on here a few months back and since then I’ve picked up a couple gta muses and headcanons to go with them. A brief compilation include:

Lamar found chop when he was a puppy, and knowing him, chop was probably one of those street puppies that ended up getting abandoned by his mom when he was really tiny. Lamar found him, took him in and he’s taken such good care of Chop ever since.

Franklin and Lamar are the two dads constantly fighting over custody of their Rottie son

Andreas owns 6 birds and a dog and he is terrified of ever having Steve pop in because if he does he will be covered in lovebirds an parakeets that just yell “Dickhead Steve” and “Steve-O” and make kissy noises

(Because I am a sucker for men who are secretly soft—) A friend and I came up with the idea that the reason Steve still lives with his mom is because she’s terminally ill. So he sticks around and takes care of her and her two lil dogs. She still kinda of treats him like a kid sometimes, pulling on his ear when he’s being rude, making him sandwiches for whenever he gets home, and tidying up his room while he’s gone, but she’s accepted that he’s an adult. For the most part.

Steve’s mom also lowkey adopted Andreas after he visited 1 (one) time and now she’s his mama too-

There’s a dialogue between the three of them where franklin says he doesn’t appreciate Michael and Trevor poking fun at him by saying they’re basically adopting him, but deep down, I feel like Franklin appreciates having father figures. They’re not ideal role models— not by a long shot, but they’re probably the closest thing to family he’s felt he’s had in a long time.

Lamar was really close to his mother. Considering he has a tattoo labeled Mom on his neck, he must have thought very fondly of her. I imagine that she was the kind of mom who had an issue, knew she had an issue, but was still riding that line where she had some form of self restraint and did her best to provide for Lamar anyway. That being said, they stilldidn’t have much.

Franklin loves music and sports. Mans had an entire record collection and mixer setup in both his houses— I bet this boy makes his own beats and either practiced singing or rapping. The number of jerseys and posters he’s had suggests that he might have wanted to go into sports at some point and had his ambitions squashed thanks to comments about his weight or appearance. He still likes watching it thought.

how did rick end up falling for stan?

oof jess . i think i can’t give you a solid answer simply because ofhow rick sanchez is as a character ? love is … complicated . he couldn’t make amarriage work yet he can turn a black hole into a sun . he spent an entireseason being bitter , and destroying his daughter’s love life because he iswhat ? petty . unity left him in pieces , to the point where he almost killedhimself and that’s not even counting other relationships that i have alone . hethinks that love and falling in love is stupid , and tries not to waste histime on something so mind-consuming . he tries to pretend he’s heartless , eventhough he’s very … altruistic in a sense .

that being said , stan is one of those cases where he didn’tnecessarily fall for him , but he knew he was special . he doesn’t think thatanyone really belongs in the universe and that he’s bound to walk alone for therest of his life ( or until he figures out how to be immortal , in which case –see futurama’s ‘ the late philip j fry ‘ ) . but people like ford , stan ,unity , morty + summer , etc . are what make his life worth it . he doesn’twant to emotionally connect with people and yet … he does just that . he spendstime with them and they make things okay , even if its just for a while .

stan is … one of those people where he does have anemotional connection to , and probably wishes that he doesn’t sometimes but hecares for him a lot and he can’t really put it into words . the feeling isthere , but he can’t say it because … well , the entire grand illusion thathe’s heartless would be shattered and he’s not ready to put his walls down . hespent a lot of time with him , and in our conversations , stan lost his v-cardto rick . which … damn . but i think rick would’ve realized very early thatstan is different from his twin brother , and that some of his quirks he fitsbetter with than he did / does with ford .

so . falling ? no . realizing that he has an emotionalconnection and therefore that person becomes a weak point for him ? yeah . give him some time though . he’ll come around .
