I actually can't like harry potter anymore. Even if I wanted to. I'm not suppressing my love for it out of moral obligation. Jk Rowling has ruined my enjoyment of it. It can't be undone. I genuinely see Terfy ideology in her work that I didn't notice before. I'll admit, if I didn't know she was a terf, I probably would never have noticed it. Sometimes new information makes you recontextualise things. It's not something you can control.

Luckily for me, I never liked Neil gaiman's work. I'm not judging people who did and still do. But I wonder why people act like 'killing the author' is something you can choose to do.

Horror movies watched whilst sequestered away with covid, day 1:

Late night with the devil: meh, underwhelming. Wanted to love it, but just kept comparing it to ghost watch and finding it lacking.

Final destination: immense nostalgia, even worse than I remembered

Saw: it holds up!!

Honourable mention: the first 40 minutes of Heretic before the stream clapped out, but I enjoyed those 40 mins immensely

ofmd is important to me because it helped me quit grad school, which was slowly killing me.

not just bc ofmd is the "it's never too late to re-invent yourself, just walk out you can leave" show, but because, thanks to ofmd, I've written more in the past two years than I ever have before. and through that I've made friends with people who were outside of my whole situation and liked me for things that weren't related to grad school/didn't see grad school as an intrinsic part of my identity.

in contrast to that, people important to me in my actual real life thought I was joking when I said I might quit because I was miserable. even when they knew I'd been suicidal. or they were like "yeah everyone feels that way." the pressure to just push through even when it was hurting me was so strong.

so fandom helped me find new parts of my identity that weren't going to crumble apart if I didn't get the PhD. and that made me brave enough to get out of there even when I didn't really know what came next.

and sure, yeah, that's more about ✨the power of friendship✨ than the actual show, and it's not like the friendships are ending, but it's all tangled up together for me and I'm just real fucking sad the show got cancelled.

Fuck this. I just wish that stories were allowed to END, you know. No spontaneous seasons added on. No cliffhangers in the hope that the streaming service doesn’t cancel the whole show anyway. No hints of future movies in the ones that are supposed to finish off a story arc. No talks of actors coming back. No dragging up stories that were finished and done with over a decade ago and give them yet another movie.
