ran out of dubias sooner than I expected and I don't have a local pet store that sells them. I'd rather avoid crickets if possible, so while I'm waiting to receive 300 roaches in the mail, I got some calciworms (black soldier fly larvae) for the cave geckos, so we'll see how they like them

triplets trying to sneak in an animal but get caught
“Autumn, come on. Coast is clear.” Axel said as he opened the sliding glass door and was on the lookout for either you or Jack.
“Are you sure?!” She asked and was doing her best to keep the kitten still who was wiggling underneath her jacket.
"Mommy and daddy are not going to let us keep it." Ivy said while being the voice of reason, but her siblings weren't trying to hear it.
"That's why we have to hide it. But mommy might. She loves animals and we got it for her anyway." Ax said while all three of them made their way upstairs to the playroom thinking that was one place where they would be safe.
"What do kittens even eat?" Autumn curiously asked while looking over at her older sister who simply shrugged as she set the kitten down to roam around the room.
"We can give her daddy's ranch flavored snacks that he loves so much."
"Ew, the only person that likes those is daddy so I highly doubt she will." Ax said while making a gagging noise.
Just then the three of them heard your voice and got a look of panic on their faces.
"BABIES!"
"Hide the kitten!" Ax whisper yelled to Autumn as she was looking around frantically.
"Hide her where!?"
"Put her back in your jacket!" Ivy said as you and Jack had now come into the room.
The two of you could immediately tell that something was off as you looked at your three children before looking at each other.
"What did you three do?" Jack asked, wanting to get straight to the point.
"Nothing, daddy." All three of them said in unison which made you even more suspicious.
"The looks on your faces tell mommy and daddy otherwise." You said while going over to Ivy since she was the one who would usually break the easiest.
"We just got tired of playing outside and wanted to come in." She said confidently, but you weren't buying it.
"Autumn, why are you wearing your jacket? It's near 95 degrees outside. Are you trying to faint and give me and mommy a heart attack?" Jack asked, but before she could answer, suddenly you heard a meow.
"I…. I know that I didn't hear what I think I just heard." Jack said as he looked over at you who had wide eyes.
"Umm…."
"Autumn, open your jacket."
Once she did, you saw the cutest white kitten and she simply took it out and held it.
"Put it back where you found it." Jack said not even hesitating, and this of course made all three of them upset.
"But daddy!”
"We already have twelve pets. TWELVE. We do not need thirteen!"
"But, the other day I heard you say to mommy that you would buy her a kitten." Ivy said while crossing her arms and you stifled a laugh.
"I-" Jack started to say, but Ax cut him off.
"We saw this one and thought we would bring it to her. We got her from a box that said 'free kittens'"  Ax said while going over to the kitten and petting it.
"Seriously? You three would find something like that. You three are literally smaller versions of your mother, but ESPECIALLY you, Autumn."
"I take that as a compliment, daddy."
Just then you went over to the kitten and picked it up and of course you were in awe.
You simply looked at Jack with a pout on your face and his eyes went wide.
"Baby, no."
"But pleaseeee? She's so cute."
"Did you not just hear me say we have twelve pets already?"
"Yes, but…"
"Daddy, you were late to dinner the other day and mommy was upset so I think you should let her keep the kitten to make up for it." Ax said while coming over to Jack and he simply stared at him.
"Oohh, love that, Ax." You said while cheering him on.
"I… Ax we bought her flowers, remember? You do small things like that but not an entire animal."
"But mommy wants the kitten. So mommy should be able to keep the kitten." Ivy suggested and Jack let out a defeated sigh.
"All four of you get in the car so we can go to PetsMart."
"Ooh! Mommy, what are you going to name her!?"

If you’re taking requests !!!
This may not be much to go off of but maybe reader x Ethan Landry are coworkers and they both have the biggest crush on one another. He’s an awkward mess, but she finds it so cute. It can fluff or smutty, or both 😌😌
yes
Tumblr media
“Pass me the stapler, E?” You asked, bent halfway over the receptionist’s desk at the Blackmore Puppy Resort, carefully tapping a stack of papers together.
You’d been sorting for over half an hour, making sure every dog’s paperwork was kept neat and organized for the filing cabinet. Your coworker, a brunet named Ethan Landry, was sitting on the ground near your feet, attempting to fix a broken collar. His tongue was pressed to his cheek, eyebrows furrowed as he fiddled with the metal and leather contraption. Finally he grumbled, moving to his knees to stretch to the opposite cabinet, snatching the stapler up off the top.
“This is fucking hopeless.” He grumbled, passing you the stapler and dumping the collar in the trash. “Boss is gonna kill me.”
“It’s not that bad,” you told him, stapling together the papers, but when your eyes darted down to the bin and saw the mangled collar, you barely suppressed a snort. “okay, yeah. You annihilated that collar.”
“Ugh.” He groaned, leaning his back against the desk, splaying his legs out in front of him on the floor. “Okay, what if I drove to PetSmart really fast and got a new one? Think she’d notice?”
“Before the owner comes to pick up her dog in—” you glanced at the clock. “—twenty minutes? Yeah.” He groaned again and you cracked a smile. “Told you not to take the collar off.”
“It was bath time.”
“You’re supposed wash them with the collars on.”
Ethan made a noise of complaint and leaned his head against the side of your knee as you worked, continuing to staple papers. You let a small smile form on your mouth. You and Ethan had been working together for months now and had become fast friends; you ate lunch together during your breaks, raced each other to answer the phone, and fought over who got to walk the small dogs instead of the huge, hulking German Shepard that stayed regularly at the kennel while his military dad was on tour.
And, to be honest, you liked him a bit.
He was cute, that was undeniable. And the two of you had a sort of easy friendship that had began practically the first shift together. He looked up at you, brown eyes fixed on the side of your face as you finished up filing some paperwork.
“Do you remember Jess?” He asked and you paused, glancing down.
“Jess as in…your ex?”
“Yeah.” He sighed, looking towards a spot on the wall. “She texted me yesterday. Wants to go to Shake Shack later and catch up.” His curly head tilted as he adjusted himself, sitting up straighter. “Should I go?”
“Do you want to go?”
“Do you want me to want to go?”
“Do you want me to want you to want to go—?”
“Y/N.” He laughed, tugging at your shoelace as he grinned, a stupidly cute smile that pulled at your heart. “Im asking for your advice right now. Help me out.”
You pretended to ponder for a while, even if the thought of Ethan going anywhere with Jess made you feel slightly violent. You shrugged, sliding him a casual glance as you opened the desk drawer and shoved the papers inside.
“I don’t know.” You said, tightening your ponytail before you moved to the computer, pulling up your schedule. “Maybe you should reconsider doing anything with your ex-girlfriend.”
“It’s not like I have other options.” Ethan said, watching as you tapped on the keyboard slightly aggressively. “Right?”
“You could always use Tinder. A much more advanced, entertaining route than the obvious heartache you’re gonna get from getting Shake Shack with her.”
“Come on, haven’t you ever gone back to an ex?”
“No, because I’m not a dumbass. And I’m going on my lunch break in like, ten minutes, so that’s all the advice you’re getting.”
Ethan stayed silent for a moment and you turned, glancing down at where he seemed deep in concentration on the ground. Then he stood, sighing loudly, and stretched. The boy had no business being as tall as he was, practically towering over you when he was by your side.
“What if we went to Shake Shack instead?” He asked, drumming his fingers on the desk as he peered down at you. You raised an eyebrow and he raised one right back. “What? I don’t want to be thought of as a dumbass.” Your amused smile was enough for him to crack one of his own, his hip bumping yours as he walked by. “What do I text Jess?”
“How about nothing?” You offered, following him as he moved towards the back where the two of you kept your bags. “Block her.”
“I was thinking, ‘I’ve found a better lunch date’, but that works too.”
You rolled your eyes, picking up your bag and slinging it over your arm.
“You’re so annoying. But fine. We can get burgers if you want.”
“That’s my girl.” He said, grinning as he flicked your ear, his finger hooking through your belt loop as tugged you along with him out of the back.
After lunch and then your afternoon shift with Ethan, the two of you wound up at his dorm, splayed out on his bed as you watched American Psycho. Ethan was laying on his stomach next to you, chin on his arm as he watched the film, both of your eyes glued to the screen.
“Do you have a boyfriend?” He suddenly asked, and you glanced over in surprise.
“Hmm?”
“Do you—I mean, are you dating anyone?” He looked away, slightly embarrassed. “Sorry. Never-mind.”
“Why?” You asked, propping yourself on your elbow and turning your head to face him. He was close, barely half a foot away, his cheeks flushed a slight shade of pink. “You wanna ask me out on a date?”
“No.” He grinned slyly, his mask of awkwardness slipping a fraction into one of recognition at the line. “Do you have a boyfriend?”
“You’re so cheesy.” You laughed, nudging him with your shoulder, the scent of his cologne invading your nose as he watched you with amused, soft brown eyes. “Quoting Stab like I haven’t seen the movie a thousand—”
Ethan moved quickly, surprising you, one hand sliding from your jaw to your neck, the other hand pressing the mattress for support as he kissed you hard, an involuntary noise leaving you at the rapid movement. He pulled away, forehead brushing yours as he spoke, the taste of his spearmint gum lingering on your mouth.
“Go on a date with me, Y/N.” He murmured, kissing you again, and you slipped a hand into his hair, tugging him further onto you as you whispered your assent.

Cat Guide!
@hrhthebirthdayprincess
You asked for it. :)
Tumblr media
Luna, the oldest. We adopted her from the local used bookstore when she was a kitten. She is 15.
Tumblr media
Pixel the mommy kitty! :) And please do excuse my messy desktop, lol.
Pixel showed up in our backyard one morning in 2014. We noticed her when we were about to go out. We went out, spent the day doing stuff, came home, and she was still there. So we brought her in to live with us. Turned out she was pregnant. With:
Tumblr media
Quasar the pinky nose kitty, who is very extroverted and loves to be around others and she will touch your nose with her pink nose and push herself into your face.
Tumblr media
Rigel, the biggest orange dude. This is a very recent picture of him in the spousal person's lap. He's been getting brushed during wet food/treats time and after 10 years he's decided maybe it's okay to sit in human laps on occasion.
Tumblr media
Sirius, the other big orange dude. He is very silly and affectionate, and he will run around and chase his sisters and then sit in your lap and make the most adorable purr sounds.
Tumblr media
Titania the fluffy calico. When they were kittens the spousal person said he wasn't sure if maybe Pixel wasn't washing her enough, but then it turned out no, she'd just gotten the recessive fluff gene and she had lots of long fur. She knows she is extremely cute because everyone who's ever seen her has immediately exclaimed about how cute she is.
Tumblr media
Yes, okay, a house with this many cats will have boxes just lying around for cat use. ;)
Anyway, this is Ursa, the smallest. Although she was the first one to eat solid food when they were kittens so she was the biggest for a short amount of time. She likes to run around a lot and to jump and climb and to chase everyone else. She's also just recently started hanging out with the humans more.
Tumblr media
Vega, who is stripy and friendly and sweet. She gets tired of Sirius running around and jumps in between me and the spousal person for protection from him. She comes to bed with us at night and gets her pets and attention and then she settles down near our legs to sleep. Luna is always down there with her, and Quasar also comes to sleep with us.
That's everyone right now. We had Midnight and Oreo, sisters we adopted from PetSmart when they were kittens in 2002, a couple of months after we got married. And Nova we got in 2005 from a litter of cats who showed up at my mother's house, and we took her home. They lived long happy lives, and we still love them and I still say we have 11 cats.
And if you noticed, yes, their names are in alphabetical order, L to V. :) Oreo and Midnight were already named that when we adopted them, and we kept it going. It took the spousal person a while to find the right names for the kittens to keep the alphabet going.
Will tag @ihaveacatnow too. :)

I’ve recently gotten into fish keeping; and one thing I really want to do is setup a tank for a male betta for Apollo. I have wanted to get into fish keeping for a long time, as well as working with one Deity; and since these things have happened kind of together; I want to blend the two together.
I’d like to get a betta that “looks like” Apollo and he will also be named after Apollo! That’s the plan. I might wait until Petco has their dollar per gallon sale so I could get a 15 or maybe 20 gallon for him.
I’m thinking I might get the betta from Petsmart, however. Why, you may be wondering, would I go to petsmart for the fish? The petco near me actually seems to take good care of their betta. However petsmart frequently has dead or dying betta. I’m thinking/hoping I can get one of the rough ones for free or discounted and “save” it.
I think this would be a great way to honor Apollo and be able to do devotional acts everyday for him - by taking care of "His" fish!

Princess Sakuya passed away last night.
I want to talk about her some, so this might get long. <3
She was a koi style female betta fish I got from a petsmart in late 2018. White red and black in color with short fins. She had original tankmates of 2 glass catfish and three hatchet fish. I did a lot of research and decided on a female betta because they are calmer and less likely to abuse tankmates.
She was always friendly and curious and mostly left her tankmates alone. Though she starts out three colors the white in her scales turns to red and black over time, although she also gains an electric blue shimmer to some scales that reminds me of that storybook the rainbow fish.
My very favorite thing about her was her 'cuddliness' Because she was so curious she always swam toward things coming into her tank, not away, and I was always afraid that during water changes she'd get knocked around by the water and get injured. So I started sticking my hand in to block her to one side, to my suprise she swam right over and sat in my curled hand. I'd never had a fish that was like 'ok! hold me!' That became what we did every time there was a water change.
In late 2020 we decided to move from FL to WA. Usually a significant move necessitates rehoming fish, and that was originally the plan, but the closer move date got the less I wanted to separate. So I decided to take the risk and take the fish with us. Into a bucket goes the Princess, 3 hatchet fish and the remaining glass cat. 7 days and over 3000 miles later we arrive in WA, only the glass cat didn't make it.
The new tank is a 40Gallon tall, and it's a wonderful amount of room for 4 fish. The hatchet fish all eventually pass and it's just her left in that big tank.
In late 2022 she becomes ill and starts struggling to swim to the surface of that huge tank to breathe the air as betta need. So she moves into a 10gal tabletop tank on the bay window for treatment. She ends up recovering, but with her favorite plants and leaf hammock and the windows sunshine she is happy so she doesn't move back to the big tank.
In april 2024 she gets ill again, and after treatment recovers physically, but her personality has changed, she's listless and fearful, laying near the surface and seeming to panic whenever food or new water goes into the tank. Last friday I moved her into a hospital bowl for a last effort treatment, knowing it was likely end of life and not sickness. She was 6 years old.
Sunday I knew in my heart that she would be gone soon. So I put my hand in the tank to say goodbye and after a moment of panic she calmed and swam over into my hand. I got to hold her a last time. Monday night when I went to check on her she had passed. She'll be buried under the cherry tree with her favorite leaf hammock.
Many people think of fish as disposable pets, and betta especially. They're sold in little cups with incorrect care instructions. In truth they're amazing little companions who are worth the time and effort to really care for them.
I'm glad I got to spend 6 years with Princess Sakuya and I'll miss her dearly.
Thank you for spending the time to hear her story.

Running Errands
After our usual morning coffee, NYT and Wapo online games, and bowls of oatmeal with raisins and walnuts, we hopped in the car and headed down to the Los Reales landfill to drop off a few items that classify as household hazardous waste. Amazingly, by the time we arrived at the location near Craycroft and I-10, there was no line. We were able to pull right up and drop off all that hazardous stuff and be on our way.
Then we met with Uncle Cy, my dad's half-brother, for a light breakfast at Margie's Kitchen, our favorite little cafe in Tucson. Cy and his wife moved back from Washington state a couple of years ago. They had previously lived in Tucson while he worked for Lear Jet. He learned his aircraft maintenance during a stint in the Marine Corps.
The next stop on our morning jaunt was the nearest post office, where we picked up the change of address forms. I had tried filling out the forms online, but I couldn't get it to work. Besides, when we handed them in later—at another branch—once we filled them out, it did not cost us anything. Doing it online would have cost a whole $2.20!
On our way to Lowe's to pick up another pre-built box for packing art pieces, we made a quick visit to Tucson's newest Black Rock Coffee Bar. We enjoyed a large blended Mexi-mocha the rest of our journey, which included stops at PetSmart for food for our picky cats and Trader Joe's for more raisins and walnuts for tomorrow's oatmeal.
Our last stop of the day was the drugstore, to pick up what turned out to be a small portion of a refill of one of my meds. It will be enough to get us to Oregon, where we'll have to get a new physician. Part of that process was taken care of already this week when Nancy checked with our Medicare broker. He's filing out the paperwork to get us hooked into Oregon's version of the program.
I also attempted to let the pharmacy folks know not to automatically refill any other meds because we won't be in Arizona too much longer. But they've been less than responsive to those kinds of appeals in the past—like during our vacation in Oregon last year—so I will not be surprised when I get a text from the store here in Tucson about another refill awaiting me after we've made the move. Ah, well!

When I went out yesterday to do my KSP and PetSmart shopping, there wasn't a good chance to stop and buy lunch anywhere, so I just had some leftovers when I got home
I was within visual distance of a Jollibee but I was tired and had a lot to carry (got a new dish tray and a big cutting board... so heavy...) so I didn't make the journey
Now I'm sitting at home and still kind of like... wanting takeout lunch. Debating with myself whether I'd rather face the cold for yumyums or stay in and just eat yogurt
There's a Wendy's up the road, and a Tim Hortons. And two Filipino places, and an Asian market with cheap sushi, and a Subway, and... man. There's a lot of fast food places in the plazas near me. I am spoiled for choice

I got some new pet fish yesterday.
I had 3 leopard long fin danios and 3 honey gouramis that I have had for 4 weeks now (had a timer set because my tank was still cycling) as well as the malaysian trumpet snails that have now multiplied into what has to be over a hundred at this point.
So yesterday i went to the store to get 6 cherry shrimp local pet store near me had them 3 for 11 last time I checked this time they were 3 for 9. THEN in the tank directly across from the shrimp they has like a hundred tiny baby albino corycats which was the other fish I wanted to put in the tank. and they are babies. So I get 3 (they are the same size as the snails)
THEN I see one lone long fin albino danio all alone in a tank so I get it too.
Ok so I got more then I was expecting but I don't think I will cause an ammonia spike or anything wanted to be gentle for the shrimp but it's fine.
Then I get home and start floating the bags and I see in the shrimp bag is those little cool flat worm things with the triangle head that you can cut in half and both half grow back. My mom says to look them up so I do. turns out they are called planaria and EAT SHRIMP. So now I need to be extra careful that NONE of the water from any of these bags get into my tank because I. Do. Not. Trust. It.
I pour the 3 bags into my 5 gallon bucket set up a drip from my tank to get them acclamating and set a timer.
Eventually I very carefully start putting them in. The danios found each other instantly and turns out this new one is my first female (according to my mom) and the corycats and the shrimp go in and I turn off the light.
Next morning one of the corycats is dead all three are VERY skinny but i was just thinking I could fatten them up. The two that are still alive aren't eating flakes and one is swiming near the top of the tank. I did order some sinking pellets online they won't get here for a few days so I run to petsmart to but some frozen blood worms which I was going to get eventually but I figured that was the fastest thing I could get without wrangling amazon returns (because I don't want two things of pellets.)
The danios go nuts for the worms the gouramis get some too. Even the shrimp munch on them. The corycats? They intirely ignore them even when I drop them directly on their head. Now im pretty sure I'm going to lose these other two corycats. Which sucks.
The shrimp are fine I can see 3-4 of them at any time and they have just been chilling. I dont think it's a water quality issue because I've been testing it and the shrimp would have been the first thing to die from water quality.

TW animal death
So a couple years ago I adopted a cat. Named him levi. He had FIV and we knew he was on borrowed time. Already 10yo, had been through hell and back as a stray. But the sweetest, kindest cat. So loving and just a gentle old man.
Today I was FaceTiming with my daughter and her dad. The two of them were playing outside and we were just chatting. My ex’s dad called him frantically to go inside, and my ex found Levi unable to use his back legs, and breathing very heavily. I essentially was hung up on, for good reason.
He took him to the closest animal hospital, about 45 min from where he lives. They put him on oxygen, gave him meds for the pain and fluids. My ex just got the call that there’s nothing they can do for him. He has blood clots possibly caused by the fiv.
Im a mess. I found him at a PetSmart, they had an event going on for adoptable pets through some local humane societies. Tons of kittens and this cage in the back with this lonely white cat that no one would go near. I scooped him up. My soul cat had just died (if you ever see a pic of me I have his face tattooed to my chest) and idk I just felt really drawn to Levi.
In November of 2022 I had to dip. My ex was abusive as all hell to me. (I won’t get into all that and why we have split custody etc. and why I had been living with him for so long before moving) but I had to leave Levi behind. I hated it. And still do. But moving from Kentucky to idaho isn’t exactly easy for a cat who’s 10. So he kept him. I know he took care of him. Just. I hate it. I hate that I can’t do anything.
I’m going to miss my big fluffy baby.

Kitten Update!!
We weren't able to get the kitties to the vet today (unfortunately) but we have a vet appointment scheduled for tomorrow early afternoon!!
We thought that Ollie might be less weaned than his brother, Spud (it's been made official that Spud is the runt's name.) so we brought him to Petsmart and picked up some kitten milk formula as well as a nursing kit. He loves the milk, but then he almost bit the nipple off so we tried some dried food instead of wet since that might have been what he was eating on my uncle's farm.
He's an avid eater. And he figured out that he has a water bowl. So that's good. He seems to be mostly litterbox trained already (which amazed me since this is the first time he's ever had a litterbox, but he knows to go and do his business in it.) so now I also have a fecal sample I can give the vet tomorrow so they can check for worms.
He's a mischievous little thing, loving to explore and try to play with the dogs. He also has discovered the wonders of shoelaces and hoodie strings. All things considered, he's doing pretty good. He still needs warm compresses for his eyes until we get him eye drops but that will probably happen tomorrow.
However... Spud.
Spud I'm not so sure about his litterbox training. It's hard to say. He doesn't drink from the water bowl, and rarely eats the dry food. (He likes licking the flavoring off wet food* but he's also used to dry food as well.) so I'm syringe feeding him the kitten milk to help him put on some weight. He's so much lighter than his brother (which I weighed Ollie earlier today. He's 18-21 fl oz. I used the kitchen scale but whatever.) so we're concerned about him. I also syringe fed him water as well.
He's far more vocal than Ollie, constantly meowing. He's tried to play with Percy (the corgi) but Percy is unsure about this whole cat business.
(We got them wet food in case they weren't used to cat food, but we also bought dry food as well. Covering all our bases.)
As for the dogs?
Well Percy likes playing with Ollie somewhat. Ollie bops him on the nose and he pokes Ollie with said nose. He needs reminders to be gentle, but neither I or my roommates think that he sees the kittens as prey. It helps that his prey drive is basically non-existent. We're still heavily supervising anytime they share the same space and are always holding the kittens or have our hands nearby in case we need to scoop them up.
And for the blue heeler, Roo?
Her prey drive is VERY existent so we were extremely hesitant to let the kittens be around her, especially since they're so small and vulnerable. But she sniffs them and lets Ollie and Spud bop her. In fact, she's guarding Percy from going near them. At first we thought this was resource guarding, but she also guards the scent of the kittens, even if they're chilling in the bathroom (we set them up in there.)
So now we're pretty sure she thinks that they are her puppies. Which is good. But we're worried if they run in front of her or anything it might activate that prey drive so we're still being hesitant. But Ollie spent most of the day in the same room as the puppies without any kind of incident.
So all in all, it's been a pretty good day and we're keeping an eye on Spud!
Edit: I am more than willing to take advice. This is my first time raising kittens, so anything is helpful. I've scoured the internet and also talked to several people (including my mother since she was raised on a farm and has been taming kittens since she was little.)
