Just think about it. None of the marauders would listen to Taylor Swift. Sure, Peter would. But that’s Peter.

Sirius is very into the Rock and Roll scene, he wouldn’t listen to her.

James? Yep, you guessed it, Rock and Roll, but not as much as Sirius.

And Remus? He would occasionally listen to classical but he also likes Rock and Roll

November 3rd 1959 - Sirius Black was born premature to Walburga and Orion Black.

November 3rd 1970 - Sirius Black received his letter to Hogwarts. Regulus Black cried, he didn't want his brother to leave.

November 3rd 1971 - Sirius Black's twelfth birthday. His new best friends, James Potter and Peter Pettigrew threw a surprise birthday party in their dorm. The three of them also snuck out after hours and dumped a bucket of soap on the caretaker, Filch. None of them realised their fourth member, Remus Lupin was tearing himself to shreds in the Shrieking Shack.

November 3rd 1972 - Sirius Black is contacted by his Aunt Andromeda. It was the beginning of Sirius Black's rock music phase. The Marauders (as dubbed by Professor McGonagall) pranked the school by casting rain clouds inside the Great Hall and soaking everyone.

November 3rd 1973 - Sirius Black got his first girlfriend, a Hufflepuff named Eleanor. Remus Lupin fought not to be angry about it and James potter organised a common room party with lots of music, people and the boys got their first taste of firewhisky.

November 3rd 1974 - Sirius Black realised he was queer when a fifth year Ravenclaw snogged him in the stairwell outside the loudest common room party yet. Remus Lupin was still in the Hospital Wing, however the boys snuck in close to midnight so he could say happy birthday.

November 3rd 1975 - Sirius Black kissed Remus Lupin when they were getting ready for the common room party. Sirius Black had then watched as Remus Lupin fled. Both of them got incredibly drunk and it would be a while before they talked.

November 3rd 1976 - Sirius Black didn't get a common room birthday that year. He didn't want one anyway, he was still reeling from what he'd done. Remus Lupin wished him a happy birthday for appearances sake. Neither of them could look each other in the eye.

November 3rd 1977 - Sirius Black had the best time of his life. He danced with his boyfriend, Remus Lupin, played 'Ballroom Blitz' to the record on his guitar in front of the entire House, danced some more with his boyfriend, played truth or dare with his friends, snuck to the Astronomy Tower with Remus Lupin, both incredibly drunk and dared each other to count the stars. They fell asleep and woke to the sound of owls screeching. Sirius Black knew this was the best birthday he would ever have.

November 3rd 1978 - Sirius Black knew the war had intensified. The Order barely had time to celebrate Christmas, let alone birthdays, however Euphemia Potter made him a red and gold cake and they had a small gathering in celebration. It was a quiet day and the threat of the war was in everyone's minds. If had felt wrong to celebrate when their friends were fighting for their lives.

November 3rd 1979 - Sirius Black didn't celebrate his birthday. He was still grieving the loss of his brother, Regulus Black. Remus Lupin tried to help, but he kept being pushed away until he stopped trying. Sirius Black knew that was the day things started to fall apart.

November 3rd 1980 - Sirius Black was in hospital after a mission gone wrong. Remus Lupin had sat by his bedside for three days until he was forcibly removed by Dumbledore and thrown back to the front lines. Sirius Black woke up the day after to an empty chair and a sad heart. Doubt began to set in and he urged the Potter's with newborn Harry to make Peter secret keeper.

November 3rd 1981 - Sirius Black sat alone in his cell, wishing upon every star he could go back and get one more hug from his Moony. Oh, he missed his moon so much. The stars didn't feel right without the moon. He didn't feel right without his Moony. He hadn't felt right in years.

Marauders Era Characters on the 4th of July

James Potter - Snack Duty

His job is to go to the store and buy the fireworks with Peter.

Is the type of dude to sneak into the kitchens when no one is there and eat the snacks before anyone catches him.

When the fireworks start he’s all hyped up but right when they reach the big ones and the loud ones he starts shitting his pants in fear.

Is the type to watch someone light a firework from 6 miles away, or drag people 6 miles away so they don’t get hurt.

Barty aggressively scares him with the fireworks until he’s screeching and Evan + Regulus find it hilarious.

Sirius Black - Cooking Duty

Is on cook duty with Remus.

Slaps everyone’s hands when they try to get smth out of a plate/bowl. He acts like he doesn’t see James when he does it.

He’s the one standing dangerously close to the fireworks.

He’s the one blasting music that the whole neighborhood can hear over the fireworks.

Tells James to buy the big and loud ones, but he saves them for later when Regulus isn’t there bc he knows he’s scared of them.

Is having a romantic time with Remus and they keep getting interrupted bc the kitchen is right next to the stairs that lead to the rooftop.

Remus Lupin - Cooking Duty

Bro is passionately cooking, he’s not even that excited about it being 4th of July.

Every time the good neighbors start doing the fireworks he starts hooting and cheering.

Tells Barty and Marlene how to angle the fireworks bc he’s a smartass.

Misses all the good fireworks and it drives his friends mad.

Eats everything he made and asks if it tasted good, and they all glare at him bc he didn’t leave any for them to try.

Peter Pettigrew - Snack Duty

He just has the best taste in snacks.

Everything that Remus and Sirius are making was HIS idea, and the things HE bought. But of course, he never gets any recognition.

Is munching on a bowl of popcorn, watching the fireworks go off and giggling at the manic laughter emitting from Barty.

He just minds his own business, watching the fireworks until the very end.

When they completely stop, he turns around to check on everyone else and see if they enjoyed their time, and he realizes that they had left a while ago. (I know they wouldn’t do this, I’m just adding angst).

Lily Evans - Organization Duty

She’s the one putting the food and snacks in good plates and bowls, making sure there’s a table set outside with chairs, checking multiple times if it’s safe.

Repeatedly looks around the curb just in case there’s a cop. When she hears the sirens she starts panicking and Mary tells her to calm her tits down.

When she notices someone (Remus) is eating all the food, she zooms back inside to get more for refills.

Whenever there’s a loud firework she closes her ears, Regulus notices this and feels a sense of relief knowing he’s not the only one who’s scared of it.

Mary Macdonald - Lounging Duty

She’s the one bringing the stools and tables and setting them outside. She also brings out the drinks, and makes sure everyone’s comfortable.

She puts up warning signs against traffic cones in the ‘firework zone’ for dramatic effect. It basically means it’s the ‘do not disturb insane Barty who is quite literally playing with fire’ zone.

She doesn’t help at all. She claims she did but she just pulled out the tables and chairs, and sprawled in the most comfortable one.

Marlene McKinnon - Firework Duty

Is helping Barty with the fireworks. It goes great at first! They’re high-fiving when it’s a good one, patting each others backs when it’s a bad one, until it goes downhill..

Barty begins to laugh like a pyromaniac, which tbh, he most likely is. Marlene is concerned and makes her way out of the ‘firework zone’, and sits next to Dorcas who laughs at her expression and claims that it’s ’him being normal.’

For the remainder of the night, she’s just sitting there, all grumpy in the hands of her soon-to-be-wife, and glaring at Barty bc even when they were childhood friends he would never let her enjoy the ‘firework zone’.

Unbeknownst to Dorcas, Marlene actually does know this fact abt Barty, it’s just that James, Barty, and Marlene agreed not to speak about their childhood memories with anyone else.

Dorcas Meadows - Lookout Duty

She’s not even doing her job. She gave up when Lily kept bothering her and peeking her head around her shoulder. Anyway, she’d much rather sit with her girlfriend.

Pandora notices that she’s lacking so she just stares at her with disappointment.

Is munching on the snacks with Remus and acts like she didn’t eat a single thing when everyone realizes the food/snacks are gone.

She enjoys observing Barty and his insane episode. It fills her with love, because that’s her best friend. That’s someone she’ll love forever, and burn down buildings with.

Regulus Black - Face Your Fears Duty

James told him he must face his fears, and become stronger. James told him to ‘show’ his parents that they no longer control him, that he isn’t scared anymore! So Regulus does.

At first he shuts his eyes so he doesn’t see anything while he sits next to James and his brother, and then he begins to shake, which alerts James, and he begins to side-hug him.

It gets worse, but he stays strong. He starts to close his ears, the only thing he feels is the rumble beneath his feet, the distant BANG of the nearby fireworks, and his best friend’s manic laughter.

And—not in a bad way—but he thinks the thing that grounded him was not only James’ comforting arm around him, and not only sitting close by his brother, but the muted screaming of Barty, the muted laughter of Evan, the dancing of Pandora, and the adoration in the eyes of Dorcas.

He doesn’t close his ears on New Years after that.

Barty Crouch Jr. - Firework Duty

He will admit, he did let the sight of the fire, and the feeling of having control over the fire, take over his senses.

No worries, he apologized to Marlene when they stepped inside.

The adrenaline of being able to control the fire was overwhelming. The feeling of controlling something so dangerous was addicting.

But it wasn’t the thing spurring him on, no, it was the sound of his boyfriends laughter, the cackling of Dorcas, the dramatic dancing of Pandora around the ‘firework zone’, and the determination pumping in his veins, screaming at him to reverse the fear living in Regulus.

Didn’t even stop for a bathroom break, for any snacks, no. This man was competing with the neighbors on who has the best fireworks. This happens every year and everyone enjoys this competitive rivalry.

It’s obvious how much I love The Pantheons.

Evan Rosier - Royalty Duty

It’s his and Barty’s house so he’s getting royalty treatment. (Barty forced this upon everyone).

Just stands there nearby the zone, arms crossed and a dazed smile on his face. The sight of his beloved and wild boyfriend was intoxicating. He looks prettier than the fireworks, he thought.

Would NOT take his eyes off of his lover. He was smitten, and everyone could notice.

He would occasionally laugh at Dorcas’ jokes or her own laughter, reluctantly join Pandora in her dancing when she’d drag him with her, and once-in-a-while send a comforting, yet knowing smile to Regulus.

Pandora Rosier - Princess Duty

She gets princess treatment. She is queen. She is icon. She is oxygen.

Most definitely smoked a lil’ beforehand, if you know what I mean.

Dances around the group, and mostly around ‘the zone’. She sometimes grabs Evan and forces him to dance with her, which he does. Just for her.

The whole time she’s dancing, occasionally puffing, and slipping some snacks into her palms when she passes by the table.

She enjoys seeing Barty so happy and in his element, and she enjoys the lovesick expression on her brothers face even more. Not to mention the hilarious jokes of her best friend Dorcas and the vanishing fear of fireworks in her best friend Regulus! The squeals of James, the inappropriate music blasting of Sirius, the major appetite of Remus, the worry in Lily, the laziness of Mary, and the pout on Marlene’s face.

She couldn’t have asked for a better day.

House of the Rising Suns

Info post about my Marauders era fanfic! It will be edited and added to as things about it change, so if you plan to regularly read, I suggest checking in every once in a while to see if something's changed.

It is a fic starting in 1971 and ending 1981 following the Marauders, the Slytherin Skittles, and the Valkyries through their journey through Hogwarts and the First Wizarding War. I don't yet know if it is cannon compliment or not, but I will figure it out with time. For the shippers out there --- Endgame ships: Wolfstar (Remus and Sirius), Jily (James and Lily), Dorlene (Dorcas and Marlene), Rosekiller (Evan and Barty), Fralice (Frank and Alice), the Lovegoods (I don't actually know their ship name, but it's Pandora and Xenophillious). --- Ships in the story: Jegulus (James and Regulus), Marylily (Mary and Lily), Pandalily (Pandora and Lily), Remus and Marlene, Sirius and Mary, and characters with OCs that I've added (none of them will be endgame or treated like well known and endgame ships, they're all destined to end eventually).

Jegulus, personally I think Jegulus is a very important thing for James’ growth and for Regulus to distance himself from his family’s ideals, but I also don’t think it could ever last. It will probably be a 5th-6th year arc and they break up after Regulus gets the Mark beginning of James' 7th.

Endgame Jily because their story is one of my favorites, and if I do make it a canon compliment ,then I would need to write it with natural progression. Also I just love Jily.

Get ready for a lot of 70's music. It becomes a big deal when Lily brings her record player in second year and then when Queen debuts in 1973 and Sirius falls in love.

I’m on the fence about making it a canon compliment because I choose to be HAPPY, but I don’t need to make that decision now and so I won’t (also I like the idea that Peter is good, screw me)

Aroace Peter, my little boy loves his friends and doesn’t understand why he doesn’t love like they do. A dating spree probably in 5th year but he just cannot figure out how to do the romance thing.

Asexual Lily, to whoever HCed that, can I marry you? I love ace Lily and I think it just adds an arc to her story that is normally extremely sexualized. My girl will punch you in the face if you look even a tiny bit lower than her eyes.

*Side note* Lily's taste is also so funny. Like it goes: badass, rolemodel, stunning woman to badass, loving, protective, also stunning woman to badass, ethereal, insane, overwhelmingly beautiful woman to that one guy over there making love eyes and doing finger guns. God I love Jily so much. *End of side note*

Asexual Regulus. I am sick and tired of seeing Jegulus being completely sexualized in every single piece of content I encounter. I firmly believe their story can be extremely compelling and beautiful without falling into sexual stereotypes and just literally making everything about them sexual. All that aside, being asexual makes a lot of sense for Regulus' character, in my opinion. I want to make it clear I'm not doing this just to change Jegulus, I genuinely believe that Regulus' character is compelling with him being asexual, and I don't see a lot of asexual representation in the marauders fandom, so why not add in something good? (There'll be a lot more to Regulus' character though, trust me.)

marauders headcannons because there’s never enough of them

Remus Lupin was Welsh and had a thick accent during his first year and after being asked to repeat himself one to many times, he started trying to lose the accent infavour of the London accent his fellow dorm-mates sported (although there was always a hint there and it came back full force when he was mad, sad, really tired, or really drunk)

The marauders kinda forget he was Welsh until they visited him and stayed with his family over the 1976 summer on their hillside cottage

The first thing Sirius Black did after running away was purchase a leather jacket.

Sirius never wore wizard clothing unless required.

James Potter adored his parents and soaked in everyone of their beliefs from a young age, inheriting their hate for the Dark Arts and Slytherins

James hated Snape for is involvement with the Dark Arts

Peter Pettigrew begged the sorting hat to put him in Gryffindor in order to impress his parents

He was a half-blood but lacked knowledge of the muggle world as his father was muggle-born and never thought to immerse Peter into muggle culture

Remus Lupin knew the most about muggles out the marauders as his mother was a muggle. He was frequently baffled by how little his friends knew about the muggle world and would use that to his advantage

Remus and Lily once convinced James, Sirius, and Peter that Coca-Cola was a fancy muggle drink that only the wealthy could afford and that muggles frequently added a small pellet called ‘Mentos’ to their drink to make it taste better

So when Remus and Lily decided to take the boys into muggle London, they begged the two to try Coca-Cola and Mentos

Needless to say, they were not happy when the drink exploded all over them but later they laughed it off

Lily and Remus were friends first, and she frequently asked Remus why he hung out with James and Sirius as they were so immature and Remus would then question why she was friends with Snape as he was a bigot

Sirius Black started smoking in third year to piss his parents off and forced the marauders to try it one night and they all coughed their lungs raw

James refused to smoke anything again in his entire life but eventually caved in a year latter when Remus introduced them to weed

Sirius and James never studied, they could hear something once and remember it for life

They were also very sharp and could draw connections between concepts easily (hence them figuring out Remus was a Werewolf)

Remus was the muggle music plug

James and Peter were team Beatles, Sirius and Remus were team Rolling Stones

They had made a bet in sixth year about what team Lily was

She was team Rolling Stones and James and Peter owed about five galleons to Remus and Sirius

James read muggle newspapers and kept up with muggle politics to try and have conversations with Lily

Lily secretly found it endearing

James and Sirius had a competition to see who could get the most detentions in fourth year. Once the teachers caught on to what they were doing, they stopped giving detentions to the boys and just started taking points

Lily was the first person to find out about Sirius and Remus

Remus and Lily would frequently rant about their boyfriends and made jokes about how they were only in it for the money

sirius black ⭐ - sirius’s taste in music is 80% glam rock, grunge, punk, and new wave. he insists that music used to be better back in the 70s-90s, which remus tells him is reductive and untrue.

lily evans 🌹 - lily’s preference is music by either women-led bands or with main female lead singers. she doesn’t really have genre or an era that she prefers. sometimes it’s chill, and sometimes she wants to rock out.

remus lupin 🌙 - remus’s music is all over the place. is it indie? is it 80s japanese pop? is it an instrumental track? is it rap? you’ll just have to wait and see, and you’ll get no warning.

james potter 🦌 - james is into new(ish) bops, mostly hip hop, r&b, and pop. just when you’re feeling it, he throws some techno and edm in to keep you on your toes. this one’s the most outside of my own music taste, but hopefully i’ve captured the vibe.

peter pettigrew 🐀 - peter mostly has songs you’d recognize. When he DJs, he just wants to see people vibing. And he encourages singing along, no matter how well or poorly you sing. He’s a great party DJ for this reason.
