Ghoul Jobs in the Ministry!

So, I was thinking. The Ministry is huge, rivaling that of it’s opposite, the Catholic Church. They have multiple locations that are often huge. Humans do most of the jobs, yee, but what about the ghouls? I got some thoughts on that!

Security

The most common position for a ghoul to fill, security. It makes sense, they all have strong pray drives, are territorial, and if treated right, are extremely loyal! Guard ghouls can be tasked with multiple things, such as:

Guarding the property lines of the Abbey

Being assigned to high ranking members of the Ministry. Ex. Papa, Imperator, Clergy Members

Extra security during rituals. (Not all the security would be humans ;3)

Guarding forbidden sections of the Abbey. Ex. Veneration of Relics, Catacombs

Nursery

Just like a human nursery, the ghouls have a nursery for their young in the Abbey too. While yes, ghouls are discouraged from baby making, surprises always happen and there are kits to be taken care of. While Ghoul Handlers assist in the nursery, mainly ghouls care for the young. At least one ghoul from each element works in the nursery. Each elements tasks are:

Fire ghouls tend to all kits except for water ghoul kits. They only work with water ghoul pups if absolutely necessary, mainly for the pup’s health and safety. Fire ghouls often teach kits how to rough house safety, as well as how pack structures in the Ministry work.

Water ghouls handles earth fawns, water pups, and the occasional air pufflings. Water ghouls also teach older kits how to swim. They are the only ones who can handle water pups freely.

Earth ghouls work with all elements except for Quintessence. They often make sure ghoul kits are getting the right foods so they can grow properly, which can be difficult because they don’t have access to the normal food these kits would eat if in the Pit

Air ghouls work with air pufflings and quintessence voidlings. They often snuggle for nap time, encourage socialization, and flying lessons for older kits.

Quintessence ghouls can work with all elements, with some restrictions on water pups. They’re great when it comes to medical check ups, nap time, the occasional flying lesson, and supervision. No one is more observant than a broody quintessence ghoul.

Bonus! Multi-Ghouls! Multi-ghouls, depending on their element, can work with different combos of kits. Swiss is the latest member of the Nursery team and with him being a mix of quint/fire, he’s almost always on playtime duties. Kits love him btw!

Housekeeping

Housekeeping tasks are mostly split 50/50 between ghouls and humans. In the Ministry, everyone pulls their weight to help keep the place nice and clean, but they have found ghouls can get a lot more things cleaned compared to humans, simply because they have the abilities to get places humans can’t. The tasks ghouls help with are:

Cleaning the stain glass windows

Cleaning the rafters of the Grand Church building

Keeping pests down (no rats are hurt I promise xD)

Some ghouls are specially chosen for certain jobs, two examples being Sister’s Chamber Ghoulettes, who act as sort of her own little council, keeping her secrets and following her orders. Phil Ghoul is an honorary ghoulette in that group.

The second example being the position of Clergy Ghouls. These ghouls are summoned by members of the Clergy and them alone. These ghouls are the more dangerous ones from the elements. They’re favorites are the Shadow Ghouls from the quintessence element, Ancient Ghouls from any element, and the rumored Reaper Ghouls that show up to foretell death in the Ministry.

Thats what I got for my headcannons for now! I found that as much as I love my creature dives into looking at how the ghouls are, I love seeing how they fit into the Ministry other than them playing up on stage! Feel free to add to my list btw! Till next time!

right from the beginning I've been so so curious about Felix's POV in The Bodyguard series and there's so so so many moments I'd want to see from his perspective, but the one I'm most curious about is when the reader gets taken by Miroh's men and he chases after her and rescues her then drives into a cornfield to fuck her.... that whole sequence had me out of my MIND and I would LOVE to see it from Felix's pov. like, i HAVE to know what he was thinking and feeling throughout all of that!! (if that's something you're up for, obviously 😊)

I'm sorry to hear the writing isn't going well, i know how that feels. but I hope you know that you are superb and an inspiration!! I hope you have a wonderful week!! 🫶🏼🫶🏼

i will probably just describe rather than write the scene bc lbr i can't be trusted not to drop another 100k words, but YES. that scene! oh wow where to start. this is gonna be a long rant lol sorry

felix slowly develops a lot of feelings and emotions over the course of that story, not just romantic ones but also sadness and anger and fear. by that chapter in the story, it is clear he is starting to feel everything a lot more strongly than he did before. that includes a lot of frustration, anger, and resentment towards reader's father and his operation. reader even mentions felix's frustration with her father's men, that he thinks they're badly organized and incompetent and that he's better than them. felix also seems to think similarly of her father. i do not think he is even a little bit happy to be trapped in this bargain lol

said father definitely underestimates felix overall. he thinks he has a well-behaved guard dog on a leash and is seemingly unaware he has barely managed to tether a very dangerous and angry wolf.

in that scene, when she first texts felix her whereabouts, felix's reply is mostly dry and a little annoyed (he isn't happy when he gets behind). he says something like 'thats what your father gets for sending his men to watch you.'

he turns on her location so her father's men can pick her up. he would be the first to see when she suddenly changes direction, moving too quickly away from the scene. he probably tries to contact her but obviously gets no reply.

he immediately knows something is wrong. he knows her. he isn't surprised by her initially slipping away (hence his dry retort) but he knows she runs so someone will find her, that she acts out so she will get attention, so it makes no sense she would turn and run now.

he knows it's not right. he tries reporting it but gets ignored, hand-waved, her father's team eye-rolling and saying they have it under control, that she's just being a pest like always. he knows that's not true. he knows her too well and this is not her. when her location tracking abruptly stops in place, it confirms it for him.

he knows there's zero point in trying to get through the arrogant blockheads so he takes matters into his own hands. he takes a truck - i imagine there are landscapers who upkeep the property and there was one nearby - and he swings in and drives off.

felix was not just another worker under miroh but a very particular kind. i imagine he knows miroh's maps of the city different than someone else. when he tracks her last known direction, it's like the rest of the map glows on the screen. it's practically second-nature to fill in the gaps.

there is a part of him that probably doesn't want it to be true - doesn't want to risk going back that way, doesn't want to know who's waiting on the other end, doesn't want everything with miroh to blow up in his face now when he isn't ready for it.

but more than all that, he can't lose her. and he certainly won't lose her to miroh the way he lost everything else. he goes straight towards the facility he knows exists, quickly and swiftly finding the car that took her.

i think there's a part of the old felix that comes back during that confrontation, that the adrenaline of the entire encounter and the threat it poses completely takes over him.

i think it isn't until she's in his arms that it goes away, that he realizes they're both here and alive and that tonight could have gone very, very, very differently. i think a part of him was expecting it. he has been resigned to his own death for a long while, before he even came to this household, and when she throws herself at him with all that passion and affection it's probably the first time he realizes he really, really doesn't want to die after all.

they're sitting in that car and he tells her father that he has her, that she's safe, that he'll bring her home. i think all his options and possible paths run through his head in the split second before he turns the phone off - considers bringing her right back home and pretending none of this happened, considers driving off with her and never looking back, or -

what he does, which is give into the adrenaline and passion and newfound life right now. he doesn't want something to happen before he's been with her the way he can't stop thinking about. she's a terrifying firework of emotion and bravery and insanity and he doesn't understand her half the time but he wants to, and it's absolutely crazy to him that she would ever look twice in his direction.

(he probably thinks he owes chris a huge apology because, whoops, turns out it's really easy to lose your sense after all.)

he probably tells himself it will only happen that one time because he intends to go back to being solemn and alone etc etc... of course, she's not gonna let that happen, as she drags that half-feral wolf kicking and clawing into a semblance of human happiness - but that comes with time, of which they eventually have a lot ;)

Summary: Wounded and stranded in a strange forest, Thorin finds himself in the care of a lovebird, a reclusive and mysterious race. He’s not impressed. His host appears backward and primitive. But Bilbo seems content enough to play caretaker while Thorin heals, and that is a mercy. Isolated with the halfling, Thorin has little to do besides navigate the barriers between them and learn more about his host. The more he learns, the more he finds himself drawn to the selfless, hardworking hobbit.

But how can he be sure that this growing attraction between them is anything more than an intimacy brought on by isolation? Besides, Thorin’s a king. He’ll have to return to his kingdom, and Bilbo has never left the forest.

Married at first sight - TracingPatterns - Harry Potter (Sirius/Remus, this was such a fin read, and for someone who doesnt watch relaity shows, reading about them is much more fun for me personally)

Summary: Usually, a romance story ends when the couple say I do, but in this case, that is where it starts. Can you marry a total stranger and still make it work? Can a group of experts really find your perfect match? And how do you stay true to yourself when your every move is caught on camera?

Summary: There are pests. At first, Thorin thought one of his assistants was stealing from him. And that may have been why he was a bit harsher on them than what was deemed necessary. But one by one, the workers were replaced only for the goods to keep vanishing into thin air. It was driving him to madness. And when Thorin wasn’t at peace, everyone knew it. So, it had to be pests, right? Pixies, brownies, rats, something was pilfering his hard work and it was happening more often as time went by.

Summary: What is a witcher to do when he finds himself with a baby bard on his hands?

An Infinte Ocean - orphan_account - Harry Potter (Sirius/Remus, muggle au, I hope whoever wrote this one day sees that this is my ultimute HP comfort fic. I adore everyhting about it and iM so grateful tey wrote it!)

Simmary: Remus Lupin knows two things--working and caring for his son, Teddy. When his babysitter sets up crowdfunding so Teddy can go swim with the sea turtles at the local animal rescue, Remus doesn't realise how completely their life is going to change. Especially when he meets Sirius Black, the weekend merman in the aquatic show, and someone who might convince him of love at first sight.

Hi, I know we have quite different oppinions on some SE related things, but thats why I wanted to ask:

I actually really liked the manga Baba Yaga arc. Is your oppinion on it positve too or do you actually think its not as good or atleast weaker than the folowing arcs?

I'm curious on people's oppinions and finding out where the difference of perspectives originate

(Also think the Baba Yaga arc had a very strong SoMa moment with the whole puppet chapter resolution and Maka giving Soul and outstretched hand is an iconic panel to me)

I don't think the manga had a single "weak" arc. The more I pick things apart, the more I'm seeing what masterful storycrafting took place in Soul Eater, which is surely part of why it has such a strong fanbase to this day.

The Baba Yaga arc was fantastic!!! I have not read the manga since January, but I'll try to bullet point some of the key things that make it great.

And I'll preface this all by saying... The manga is divided into two halves, essentially (we know that), and at the end of each half...our main characters reach milestones in their stories and their character development. So it's like...they've all been hopping across stepping stones to reach the other side of the pond, and here they all arrive. And get ready to brave the waves of the next half of the story.

Also, I'm writing this in a way that assumes the reader has read and is intimately familiar with the manga. So I'm not going into detail about things. But anyway...

MAJOR spoilers for Soul Eater manga, if that matters to anyone.

The secondary trio. We get to see ALL of the kids in this arc, and time is spent with each of them; it's not JUST the main meister trio and their weapons, but it's also the secondary trio, and we finally get to know them more deeply as characters! And good heavens is that development ever GOOD! I won't detail it so folks can read it for themselves, but my GOSH was that ever phenomenal!

Minor characters. Eruka, Free, even Giriko, and Mosquito get their moments. And they're not just there to be on the page, they serve an actual purpose. And I felt that Mosquito here became more a genuine threat, less an annoying pest (lol, mosquito). We also get the unexpected introduction of a new enemy in Noah, which was a fabulous twist.

The first major seeds of doubt are sown here with the DWMA's decision making; perhaps they are not the great and wise leaders we've been led to believe? Because going along with Medusa's plan was clearly, clearly unwise. We have this sense the whole time that the effort is doomed simply by nature of...we know the decision was unwise. And with the little hints prior, and with what ultimately comes later regarding the DWMA and their place in the world...it was a fantastic stepping stone along that piece of the plot.

Medusa. The tension of her presence, of her supposedly being their ally. The clear and obvious lie she tells to Maka to gain her cooperation. Her true motives slowly but surely unfolding, and what ultimately happens with her in the end of the arc. It was a brilliant, brilliant play, completely inline with the manipulative character we know and love/hate, and an added level of threat throughout the arc since the point is to stop Arachne. And then to have the true plan revealed in the end... Sheer brilliance.

Black Star and Tsubaki vs Mifune. Another perfect stepping stone in the plot of Black Star's character development, from who he was at the beginning to who he ends up being in the very final chapter of the manga. Tense, powerful, bittersweet... Black Star is arriving here at who he needs to be to truly complete his goal. We see the growth in his words, his actions, and it becomes so important going forward.

Maka and Soul, and the battle against Arachne. Here we get back to the purpose... How was Soul Eater the series introduced? You defeat 99 evil souls and then the soul of a witch. So, we have arrived at last. A battle against a witch. And the themes of trust that were set up in that very first chapter get to shine here with Maka and Soul's growth as a meister/weapon pair. And oh ho HO that payoff... With yet another twist following... Fantastic storytelling!

Kid's sacrifice. Unexpected, heart-pounding, and yet again... A culmination of his growth. Throughout the arc... In his wise decision-making, his battle tactics, and then ultimately his sacrifice... He is stepping out of the...youthful and surface-level obsessiveness that is ultimately part of what is going to make him a great Shinigami someday, and stepping into the beginnings of maturing into that role. No more worrying about the height of picture frames. Only protecting the world, and protecting the ones he loves. It is a powerful, powerful moment in his development.

As I said in the beginning... This is an arrival, for each character. An arrival, and then they get to take a breath before the ultimate battle. Everything about this arc was phenomenal. Each and every character given their due; the pacing; the story itself with all of its frights, twists, and payoffs, and the way it makes the reader think. Truly, truly outstanding!

I know this was a very vague summary and assumes intimate knowledge of the manga, but my gosh... Truly a fabulous arc and I want to go read it again right now.

Ick. Another one I was loathe to relisten to (much like Lost Cave, which I STILL havent relistened to). I haaaaaate horror based in physical helplessness and isolation. The Vast and Alone are definitely my biggest Fears. The bugs and disease are a normal amount "This could harm me" fears for me, the Meat is just... odd. The Not!Copiers are kinda freaky but cool, but honestly I live with those and the watched feeling all the time as is. It might have gotten me once upon a time, but now im pretty resigned to the fact that my senses are just not super reliable. The longer ive lived without any real harm coming to me from the dark has made it just... statistically less threatening I guess. But the fucking Vast...

Anyways. I recognize the name Simon Fairchild, but I cant say if its from am earlier listen, a relation to an actual historical figure, or simply that brief period where I fell down the Cassandra Clare rabbit hole

the fact that they all end with a question being asked (to Wally) and then the tabs all being titled 'answer' mean something maybe its him trying to answer? or trying to remember his answer? because all the questions are something like 'what do you think Wally?' like,, all questions about his opinion/feelings/thoughts on something yk

- Tech is the calm to your storm. He's the voice of reason when everything goes to shit. And he loves you for it. He needs someone who will tell him if he's doing something wrong, not getting enough sleep and such.

"Are you sure this is sanitary?" He ask over his shoulder only to have them push his head back a little.

"Tech calm down, I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't know what I was doing, these are alot Easier to use then tattoo guns" they reply getting the laser set. Tech still moves fidgets until their hand comes to lay across his back.

" Tech, babe calm down. It's just a laser it's going to put the pattern on your shoulder ok. I'm here the whole way. Or would you like me to go get hunter to hold your hand" they laugh. He shoots them a look and scoffs.

"Don't you dare" he growls but then the air cuts off as they move to sit on his lower back. He almost chokes when he feels their hands run up is back. "Thats it Tech, relax this shouldn't take long"

They line up the laser and the prossess begins. Tech let's out a light his, his body tensing up before the hand on his back soothes him again.

"Your doign great babe, let me tell you these laser tattoos are so much better then the tattoo guns we use back home. Some times the prossess can take hours. This should only take about tten minutes at most" they reply as the continue tracing the laser of Tech's skin.

"I kinda like you like this Tech. On your stomach, at my mercy" they chuckle when makes him huff out a laugh.

"Your being a pest Y/n" he says. His body going tense when ever the laser traces a particularly tender spot.

"Well, well, well, Tech's finally getting Himself some ink and action" a voice says, Crosshair makes his presence known as he leans against the wall watching them both.

"Kriff Off Crosshair" Tech says, Y/n laughs lightly at that. Said sniper leaves with a grumble. Tech and Y/n stay in the same spot for another few minutes finishing off the tattoo.

They pat his back and moves to get off the table so he can sit up. " Well your all done now Tech" I hope you like it. Tech pulls himself up from the position.

Tech stands up chest bare and Goggles left on the bench his hair ruffles and curly. Y/n smiles looking to him. "you look like a sight handsome"

He moves to stand infornt of them, he towers over them as his hand comes to rest under their chin and tilt their head up and gentle pulls them into a kiss.

RadioDust is the Healthiest Toxic Ship for Angel so far

@honesthazbinarchives​ Briefly. I’d like to go into this more in the future BUT these are the main points I said I’d do. Heh ‘stay tuned’ for why HuskerDust is toxic [haaaa funny fuckin reference n shit like Viv herself aint overdone it]. Yer dont even wanna know the lack of enthusiasm in tryna do a playful ‘cringetopia’ joke - wasnt as fun as anticipated. Anyfuckinways, the shit. Before we begin, disclaimers n whatnot, no hate intended, dni if you’re a bit of a knobhead [either stan or extreme anti], an all that nonsense. I dont own the characters no shit.  In this I’ll discuss how RadioDust aka SpiDEER (thats right, yer stuck w my shit humour now) is both the healthiest ship for Angel we’ve seen so far but still rather toxic. Idc if you hate me for it but dont fuckin waste yer time telling me. Great. I dont care. Yer fuckin hard n whatnot for harassin strangers online. Big dick energy to you. This will be slightly messy, my apologies, it’s a quick summary of many points.

Alright. Firstly, out of the entire male cast Angel interacts with over all platforms, Al is given a fair bit of mercy in terms of sexual advances. In fact, a swift ‘no’ and Angel doesn’t do it again - unlike most of the other cast [pent’s is covert, husks is overt]. One thing I like is that Angel himself admits to their chemistry (claiming that whilst he thinks Al’s a prick, he thinks Al dislikes him which saddens him as he’d at least like to be friends as he feels they have good chemistry - according to the VA via Hunicast’s 1yr anniversary), there’s no further efforts to jump on his dick but a clear curiosity/interest in what Al can do.  Lets go to the basics, both are of similar age [allegedly in their 30s, though Ive heard Al may be up to mid 40s] as well as created near the same-ISH time (as in, Viv’s oldest characters, at least for HH). Likewise, Viv admitted to knowing fuck all on either of their eras (and to make that public wasn’t really a wise choice BUUUT if you felt the need, it’s better worded with interest “Right now I’m working towards educating myself more on their time periods to improve their portrayals” <-- crucial if yer want that ‘realism’). Because of their real-world ages, Viv confesses they’re her favourites (even if you didnt know, she makes it pretty clear). It could be a nice ‘homage’ to their impact in her life but not too relevant otherwise. It could fulfil the need for self indulgence that she’s unhealthily leaking into the canon - which will ultimately make the series shit. No sugarcoating there.  As for their ages, a relationship can work whether the gap is large or small HOWEVER there are many ethics and conflicts to each. And being an adult into kids is always fucked up. With that being said, studies have shown that closer ages often work better due to the often similarities in mindset, maturity and life goals (older folks are more likely to want to settle, younger often have more ambitions), likewise there tends to be an unbalanced power-dynamic if the ages are too far, which can lead to various types of abuse. Dont get me wrong, being with someone much older (AS LONG AS NONE OF YALL ARE KIDS) very much CAN work - but rarely. There’s much more hardwork needed as well as being in the right mindset for both, otherwise it’s bad. More on that in HD. Long story short, both are closer in age meaning both are more ‘relatable’ to one another. There’s common grounds, even in the eras there’s some higher understanding of one another. Notice how Vaggie and Charlie are similar in age? (Even though Charlie is far older, her appearance and mentality for her race is on par with Vaggie’s, making it far more likely to work out positively) One of the most prominent out of all of this however is their actual interests. So listing; Both like action/chaos/having fun (often at the expense of others), both love cooking and can be food snobs in their own right, both have sadistic AND masochistic tendencies, Al likes performance and theatre whilst Angel loves *to* perform, on that last point Angel was very intrigued and enjoyed Al’s song number/performance naturally, both really enjoy pranks and both enjoy liquor (neither show an actual addiction, but rather an interest in social drinking - no dependencies on it). Again, close eras mean both have a higher probability of understanding the other and their lifestyles better. Both are high on appearance and love themselves, implying self confident mindset (healthy BUT the narcissism isnt) yet enough consideration for how they are viewed. On the parent system, one adores his mama whilst the other hates his pops.  Now Ive gone on about how they’re similar. But similarities ALONE is not enough. If it was, then fandom’s would be a lil more harmonious~ A HEALTHY relationship needs compatibility, POSITIVE conversation flow, common grounds, trust, openness and understanding. Even then, some people click and some just dont. It’s like how you can just hate someone for no reason. It just IS. Common grounds and similarity is scientifically proven to be attractive to someone - be it good or BAD. People are drawn to those like their parents in some way usually, likewise we look for people similar to ourselves (from our interests, to humour, beliefs, goals, etc). Science itself states that ‘opposites attract’ solemnly applies in the real world successfully. Though similiarity plays a large role, there has to be some differences too - that person is STILL an individual separate to yourself. Too similar and it’s boring. Too similar and you’ll do everything together without some ‘you’ time. Both Vaggie and Charlie have similar interests/hobbies in dance and music, yet still have enough differences to be identifiable when together. Vaggie is more grounded than Charlie. Charlie gives some optimism and fun to Vaggie. Remember, a partner does NOT complete you - that’s a toxic mindset when taken too seriously, You complete YOURSELF. Whether you have someone or not, you must feel complete in yourself as to not slip into toxic dependency on a lover - to become them, a shadow of them or feel like you’ve lost your identity without them. Sounds harsh but it’s true. Chaggie compliments each other without a dependency. You stand alone yet uplift one another. You don’t always agree but in the end you always have each other’s backs. Love is often butchered in a toxic light in the media.  So taking that into consideration, how does spideer work? Well, here’s some examples of good, bad and neutral: - Angel loves animals, Al fears/dislikes dogs. Perhaps Angel could assist him in overcoming this? - Al hates being touched, Angel dislikes being squeezed. Maybe this could help them reach an understanding... Or cause a rift? - Angel was the only one to break Al’s composure, either Angel is the *key* to delving further into Al’s more raw self... Or just another obVOXious pest? (yeah, I said it-) - Neither respect other’s boundaries, meaning both may fuel the other to be overly disrespectful in this area. Not good. - Angel is a sarky/sarcastic fuck, Al loves dry humour. Both seek amusement and chaos. In relationships one needs to see how conversation flows and in the hunicasts, both keep up some good as well as toxic banter. Both could roast the fuck out of an opponent however. - Al is acro/ace, Angel is hypersexual (appears like a sex addict - now I say this as his book has a crossed out ‘fun stuff’ with ‘work shit’ written on it. He’s always fixed on sex from his job to his humour), this could either aid Angel ease up on the sex stuff OR make him overly push it onto Al causing major rifts and discomfort (aces can have sex, ref to ace posts that real asexuals put to understand more but no one wants to be forced into sex is the point here). And we’ve already discussed their lack of respect for boundaries. The positive is that maybe this will make Angel understand how Val is rubbing off on his own behaviour towards men [again, more on that in the HD post]. - Both similar yet different in a way that does suit their compatibility chances but that doesnt mean they will click, it just improves the odds. - Both have similar enemies in Val and Vox, they’re on common terms. Likewise, Al is against the ‘sexual deviance’ of hell meaning he may be oddly supportive and protective of Angel in terms of Val. I dont even think his sadism will override this either. - Al dislikes modern tech, Angel seems to use it as his job requires it. A nice little menial difference. - Only ONE is an addict. Take it from an expert, you NEVER put two addicts together. They’re very vulnerable and prone to slipping deeper into their addictions as well as depending on each other too much that they essentially become very clingy, suffocating and toxic to each other. Seen it in action, it’s ugly.  - Both could have a lot of fun and calm moments with each other. - He isn’t immediately smitten with Al but immediately shows a natural interest in Al’s powers and performance, embracing it openly. Leads for a good friendship turned lovers plot. - In Viv’s patreon, she confirmed Angel loves confident guys [sounds exactly like Al] We need to think about where both are mentally. What benefits would a relationship give both? How would they be good and bad for each other? For Al, aside from his outdated views and being a fucking murderer and narcissist, he actually seems in a good mindspace for a relationship IF he opted to be in one. Angel however has a very immature mindset, likewise is in a phase of life where hes bed hopping. IF he were to be in a relationship, I’d say he needs a male equivalent of Cherri - someone with a similar mindset yet some differences, willing to have fun and in touch with their younger side, down to cuddle, open to share and receive love as well as not afraid to publicly be affectionate with him, someone who sees him as more than just for sex, someone fun, someone who’ll let him embrace his cutesy side publicly without shame - Cherri is younger so maybe someone who’s his age or slightly younger perhaps? I think Angel’s not retirement home ready to settle and needs someone on his level that can cuddle and chill as well as feels free and youthful enough to go wild with him. In one sense, he’s got a teen girl sorta mindset (dont put him with a teen though, it’s fuckin weird-). He needs someone positive and raw, someone to let him be himself as well as someone comfortable to be themselves around him. He has a habit of latching onto unobtainable men (in psychology, this is self sabotaging subconsciously): Travis the client, Val a pimp, Husk (emotionally unavailable and needs HEAVY self work - interestingly far more than Angel - plus he’s still onto his last relationship and an addict to gambling and alcohol), Pent who’s the enemy he was currently fighting (inappropriate timing), Alastor who’s not interested in another but his own needs [selfish, VERY bad for a relationship]. Subconsciously he’s self sabotaging on purpose. There’s many psychology books as well as sources online for this, if you’re interested. Either way, Angel is drawn to men either like his father [who dislike him, shun him, or are otherwise cold, abusive or just blatantly dislike or otherwise dont care about him] or anyone with money to fuel his drug addiction/’debt’ to Val. Going with any of these men isn’t a good idea.  Preferably, Angel needs someone who he doesnt immediately crush and obsess over. Someone who he doesnt sexually harass or assault. Someone he can build a connection with quickly that can bud into romance (think how Chaggie started as a friendship which clicked immediately). Maybe even someone he doesn’t expect to fall for but does so anyways. It would be more realistic as Viv wants as well as more healthy. That for once he isnt sex or money craved instantly, thus doesnt sexually harass/assault and is given a proper chance to develop and grow a friendship and love. Someone who isnt an addict.  Someone with an on-par mindset where they click. Someone open to love. For any chance of a good relationship, Angel needs to be with anyone BUT who we’ve already seen. There’s too much toxicity that’ll be swept under the rug and justified otherwise. Too much shit to fuel homophobes in terms of gay stereotypes. Even though Ive focused a fair bit on Angel, it’s NOT just about Angel. That’s something fans forget. Some he depends on or someone who depends on him in the long term wont last and will be very dangerous to both.  Just because you suffer, you dont then deserve to be rewarded with ‘something nice’. You dont get to have everything youve ever wanted. Giving him any of these blokes [minus Val] gives him a pass. Gives him what he wants. I get Viv loves him but life doesnt work that way. True lasting growth comes from learning that. Acceptance and growth. You dont get everything you want and sometimes thats a GOOD thing. He’s not a spoilt kid who gets everything he asks for, he’s YOUR creation. If you really wanted what your creations deserve then you need to research and be realistic with it. Because hes starting to feel like a shitty Gary-Stu at this rate. I live with an ‘Angel Dust’ like person. It used to feel like life gave her everything and most times it did. Everyone loved her and she could get away with murder if she wanted to. But now she’s had to struggle and grow, let go of some ‘wants’ because they werent good for her and she’s becoming better for it. She has a long way but she’s more humble for it now [still got self confidence but it’s less narcissism now, which is more healthy for her]. Also, they make the word anal lol

You knew the danger that came with every republic mission. Not everyone always survived. And often times you made it out with more than a scratch. But that came along with the job.

Being a padawan meant that you were always put in dangerous situations. Along with your master Obi wan Kenobi. Most of the time things went relatively well. Your master would often bail you out of trouble when things got too sticky.

However this particular mission went a little different..

You were on the planet Saigon, defending against a large group of pirates who attempted to take the planet for themselves. Normally pirates were no match for the jedi forces however they had something they didnt before...the separatist army backing them as well as a new leader, Zoc tane.

Obi wan and you had split up, you took a decent sized squadron and managed to bomb their main camps while Obi Wan worked on freeing the enslaved citizens.

"Y/n, status report" the collected voice of your master broke through the chaos around you. You sliced your lightsaber through one of the battle droids as you brought your wrist up to your mouth.

"We bombed the camps, just finishing off these-" another droid ran up but you ducked under and swiped from behind, "-droids.."

"Very good, finish up quickly and meet me back at the slave camps, we could use the extra help"

"Alright be there as soon as I can" you shouted orders to the men and began fighting off the remaining droids.

"Alright men let's hurry to help the others!" You all jumped atop your speeders and made for the slave camps.

"Sir over there!" Pinks shouted suddenly, you followed the direction of the clones finger until you spotted the familiar face from the briefing this morning.

"Tane.."you growled. quickly you shouted for 2 of the men to follow you and the rest to go aid master kenobi.

"Sir are you sure thats a go-"

"If we let him leave this planet we may never get a chance like this again!" The cadet nodded and hurriedly followed orders.

You were quickly gaining on Tane, he shot some blasts with an arm bent back but you all dodged easily.

After a while of high speed chasing your comlink beeped.

"Y/n! Your men just told me you went after Tane! Don't be foolish, he is much stronger than you, get back here immedi-" with a click you shut off the com and focused on the battle. You could tell him it got messed up in the battle. You were not letting a chance like this slip away. And you were definitely planning to prove yourself by taking Tane down yourself. Just then the criminal threw a little ball backwards.

"BOMB!" you managed to veer right and dodge however pinks wasn't as lucky.

"Speedy, get him to a medical droid!" You shouted at the other clone, not slowing down your pursuit. Before speedy could even try to stop you, you were gone.

Tane eventually landed in front of a small space ship.

You hurriedly jumped off and force threw a giant rock in front of him, successfully blocking his space craft door.

He smirked and turned around. His tentacles moving eerily around him. He was built like master fisto, strong and swift.

"Well done little one, but what will you do now? Surely you aren't thinking of fighting me alone are you?"

You bit your lip, you had planned on at least having the boys with you but that quickly flew out the window. The logical part of you said that you shouldve turned back but the young fighter in you pushed you forward. Eager to prove yourself. You confidently lifted your chin and ignited your saber, "That's exactly what I plan to do"

He smiled even wider, "Well then trust me when I say it wont be much of a fight.." he drew his own weapons, double swords that glowed black. Ugh great, off brand sabers. How many kinds of weapons did he have anyway?!

"We'll see about that!" You sneered and charged forward.

"Why must I always get stuck with the most stubborn padawans!" Kenobi shook his head. You were skilled yes, more than anakin had been at that age but you still had much to learn. And Tane was not an enemy to be taken lightly. He sighed with frustration and worry.

"Alright men, let's deal with this as quickly as possible!" He prayed that you would hold your own until he got there. Perhaps you had listened and were already on the way back? Yeah right..maybe in another universe..

The fight had proven to be more difficult than you previously imagined. You could practically hear obi wan tsking.

"I'm almost impressed padawan, your lasting much longer than any of my other opponents, but no matter, soon you'll be dead like the rest of them"

You tensed at his words, he was still relatively unharmed, you managed to place a searing scratch on his arm but that did little to weaken him. Ok new plan..if I can't beat him, I can at least keep him from escaping.

Quickly you force jumped over his head which at first confused him but he quickly realized what you were up to. He glared,

"Stupid little pest!" He jumped after you but you were quick to dodge and made sure to jab your saber wherever possible. When he got a little too close you managed to force push him off which gave you just enough time to jam your saber through the main engine.

You smirked knowing he wouldn't be leaving any time soon.

"Aghh" a burning sensation across your stomach brought your attention back to Tane.

You clutched your stomach and took a few steps back trying to regain your composure.

You tried force pushing him back but he was quicker and kicked you back sending another wave of pain through you.

Shit shit shit, you desperately tried to push yourself up as he walked menacingly towards you. His weapons crackling dangerously at his sides. You tried force calling your fallen saber but it was no use. You were too exausted.

"I must say I'm disappointed" he mocked walking closer.

You managed the best smirk you could through the pain.

"Disappointed? I did destroy your only exit off this planet did I not?"

His smile dropped into a low growl, "Yes.." he lifted the saber high above his head, "and you'll pay for it!"

You tried using the force but found yourself too weak. So this is how it ends...how embarrassing....

Shutting your eyes you resigned yourself to your fate.

The smooth sound of your masters voice floated in your mind.

You snapped your eyes wide open. "Master!" You shouted in surprise.

"Sorry I'm late" he said in his usual playful tone.

"Aghhhh" Zane let out a grunt as Obi Wan pushed him backwards and began dueling. Zane was powerful you had to admit, however he was no match for your master and his years of experience and soon started to show signs of fatigue.

"You alright commander?" Rex came up and offered you a hand. Smiling you accepted and tried to hide the inevitable wince of pain.

You knew he would go straight to kenobi if you were injured in any way and you were determined to hide it as long as possible. It was highly likely that Obi wan would punish you for running into danger alone like that, an injury on top of that would make everything worse. He would probably bar you from missions for a long long long time. And the worst part was how disappointed he would be..

Shifting your robes closed you smiled reassuringly, "I'm fine, I'm assuming things went well on your end?"

He nodded, a look of pride crossing his face,"More than well I'd say, cleaned up those droids in record time" you laughed lightly then drew your attention to a now unconscious Tane.

Stepping close you watched as you master disabled his lightsaber, clipping it back on his belt. Sensing your presence he turned around and offered you a small smile. He scanned your form quickly, satisfied when he didn't notice anything out of place.

"Y/n, looks like I got here just in time" he crossed his arms smirking.

"Oh please, I had the situation completely under control"

He scoffed, "Under control? If that's what you call under control, I'd hate to see your definition of a bad situation"

"Oh hush" you rolled your eyes, " Everything worked out didn't it?"

He sighed shaking his head slightly,"Yes we may have won this time, but you were too reckless, what if I hadn't gotten here in time?" He said, his face a turning serious.

You avoid his gaze, you hated that scolding look he gave you.

"I know...I'm sorry.." you mumbled. With another shake he finally placed a gentle hand on your shoulder. "Well in any case, you did manage too thwart Tanes escape, for that I say well done" you immediately met his eyes with a beaming smile. He smirked as he couldn't help but feeling slightly proud of his student.

Finally some recognition!

"We can discuss your blantent disregard of my orders later.." he added seriously.

Ughhh whyyyyy

You hung your head down again as he led everyone back to the ship's.

The more you walked the more your injury throbbed. You almost cried in relief when the ships finally came into view. The first chance you got you snuck off into private quarters and assessed the damage.

A nasty dark and ugly wound decorated your stomach. It had blistered and was turning very unflattering shades. You gingerly applied some numbing cream. It was the only useful thing you found in the small med kit. All private quarters had a simple one, small bandages and low dose pain relievers, anything for something more serious was packed near the medical droid. For sure if you ventured there some clone would see you. Many were being treated themselves.

You sighed and debated on wrapping the wound. Wait are you supposed to wrap burns or let them breathe?? Crap you shouldve paid more attention during basic first aid.

You decided to let the wound breathe by changing into one of your training long sleeve crop tops. You swung on your cloak and made sure it covered everything.

Perfect, non restricting and Obi Wan will have no clue. Oh I better remember to be mindful of my thoughts, never know when he could be listening.

Satisfied you walked back out and headed towards the food units...

The flight home wasn't as dreadful as you previously thought. Your master told you to get some rest which you gladly obeyed. Although it did little to soothe your aches. The cream worked in short bursts, soon you had used up all the supply. If only you could get some of the strong stuff from the med bay...you pondered for a moment but decided against it. Nope you wouldnt risk it. Obi wan had a talent for popping up out of nowhere. Especially so when you were up to something. Sighing you layed back down in the cot and closed your eyes.

"Y/n"? Just how long do you plan to sleep?" Your eyes shot open at the sudden voice echoing around you. You squinted and sighed annoyingly when you realized it was just Obi wan.

"Ugh master, didn't you say I should go rest?" You flopped a pillow over your head and flipped sides.

Stupid move, your stomach burned at the sudden twist. You but your lip determined to conceal the pain.

"Rest yes? Hibernate no?" He chuckled softly and force shoved the pillow off of you. You glared up at him through your disheveled hair.

"In case you're unaware, we landed quite some time ago, you've been sleeping quite a long time, I actually came because I was worried you had passed out or something" he joked.

"!!" Even though he was teasing you felt a tinge of worry. You quickly sat up, and did your best to act like your stomach was not being roasted over an open fire at the moment. "I um must've been more tired than I realized" you lamely joked back. You could not believe you actually slept through most the entire trip.

He shook his head amused, "Well hurry up, the council is keen to hear how the mission went"

Oh good lord, anything but that. You felt fear rise in you. Standing for what may be hours in front of the council did not seem like the best treatment for you right now. What if you accidentally let your pain slip through the force and one of them senses it??

A million scenarios ran through your mind as the two of you walked towards the temple meeting room.

"Y/n?" Obi wan side eyed you slightly curious."Everything alright?" You didnt realize you had been so quiet.

You quickly plastered a smile on your face "Yup everythings fine, just dreading the long meeting ahead, I wonder if anyones actually died of boredom before" you joked lightly.

He rolled his eyes and soon the both of you were standing before all members of the jedi council. Heavens help me..

You had been right, the meeting had been long and boring and a million times worse because of the throbbing burning sensation, however you had held strong and no one seemed to notice anything was wrong.

You let out a sigh of relief when you finally exited. Knowing now you had a decent chance of sneaking some higher grade medical treatments without being spotted.

Just as you were about to make your escape your master called out from behind you.

Heavens when was I going to catch a break?!

Forcing a smile you turned slightly, "yes master?"

"I have some new techniques I want to teach you later, get something to eat and rest for awhile, then meet me in our usual training rooms." You nodded and turned back around heading to your room.

Great now you had to learn new moves while simultaneously hiding your worsening wound. Could this day get any better...

You let out a sigh as you stood before the training doors. You had treated the wound and taken some pain pills. You felt much better however it was still very painful to the touch. You would try to avoid any hits but you knew that it was going to be a challenge.

You pressed the button opneing the sealed doors. Your master sat in the middle meditating. He smiled when he noticed your presence, "Ah Y/n, right on time" he stood up and grabbed two training sabers, tossing one to you, "Shall we?" He smirked getting into a fighting stance.

"Ready when you are.." you mirrored his actions swallowing the large lump of nerves.

You were only a half and hour in and you felt as though you had just fought a whole droid army using a stick.

You were sweating profusely and your mind had trouble focusing in order to predict your masters movements. Obi wan stepped back at some point holding his hand up as a signal to stop.

He eyed you with a look you were too exausted to decipher, "Y/n? Is something wrong? I figured with the ship and earlier you had had enough rest, but perhaps I'm missing something?" His voice was now laced with concern and confusion.

Shaking your head you mustered up your most confident tone, "I'm perfectly alright master, just getting used to these new techniques is all" you assured him.

Now that he was already suspicious, you had to be extra cautious. Your master was no idiot. If you slipped up, he would notice.

He swiped at his beard in thought, after a moment he relaxed, "Alright I'll take your word for it, now then shall we continue?" He lunged forward suddenly and you quickly blocked him. He swung again and again and you managed to block those as well.

He moved quickly behind you and you spun using the technique he taught you to block, well you tried at least.... Instead of meeting his weapon with your you either misjudged the distance or he was too quick because soon you found yourself on your back in a world of pain.

"You've gotten rusty my padawan" Obi Wan teased playfully above you. It was your lack of retort that made him eye you closely.

Suddenly all playfulness was gone as he took in your pained face and suddenly felt your burning pain through the force.

He was beside you on the floor in an instant, "y/n!? Are you alright?!" You had your eyes scrunched tight, your only thoughts on how you felt as if a saber stabbed through you. You couldn't even register him speaking.

Obi wan panicked slightly, had he truly hit you that hard? At first he thought you were faking in order to get the upper hand but the force didn't lie, you were in immense pain.

When you couldn't even answer his panic grew more. Carfelully he moved your clutching hand away and gently pulled apart your robe opening the middle.

You felt a rush of cool air and it soothed your pain slightly. You were still so out of hit however you felt a new...feeling in the force...

Was that fear?

Obi wans eyes widened in shock and horror as he took in the large discolored wound that plagued you. What?! How?!When?!? He found himself completely at a loss for words.

He placed a gentle hand on your cheek, "Y/n! Wake up! Tell me what's happened?!" He slapped lightly but you were barely there.

Sucking in a nervous breath he wasted no time in scooping you up into his arms. He felt a deep pang of worry when you let out a noise of distress at the movement.

In all his years Obi wan had never made it anywhere as fast as he did with you in his arms to the med bay.

His brows furrowed with worry and helplessness the entire time...

Rafe Cameron,the bitchy,rich,straight white male.He was privileged as all hell and could get away with anything because of his daddy’s money.He did get away with anything,including beating the living hell out of multiple pogues.He was probably the person you hated most in the world and yet you were in his house,being payed with his daddy’s money to tutor his younger sister.You tried not to judge people based on their families but part of you wanted to decline the offer to tutor Wheezie and spit in Ward Cameron’s face.

But of course thats not what happened,you needed money to live and Ward had offered a ridiculous amount.It was your third study session,common core math books and Type Two Writing for Students opened on the table,piles of flashcards and worksheets flooding the marble.

That lead him to binge watch the Harry Potter movies,take the sorting hat quiz and order a Slytherin shirt.He purposely wore it when he knew you were coming over,walking into the kitchen.Your eyes fell onto his shirt,laughing. “Oh,of course you’re a slytherin.”You sighed.He grinned. “Wow,thanks.What house are you in?”He asked.He held a long conversation with you as you talked about how much you hate J.K Rowling and how Dobby didnt deserve what happened.He agreed with everything you said,loving the way your eyes lit up.The study session somehow turned into you and Rafe speaking about Draco while Wheezie grinned to herself.

Id like to tip toe around ethics again, as Ive said before ethics are a tricky thing as each persons version of 'ethics' will differ.

So Ill start by saying that this is just a rough guide to skull that are a little on the risky side. You are free to make your own judgements, that and just cause something may match criteria it doesn't necessarily mean that its dodgy.

For starters is the Mink. The condition of these skulls is enough to put most people off purchasing, but a seriously low price tag is a draw for some. These skulls are often boiled and bleached, it leaves them still greasey and prone to degrading. To top it off sometimes they dont even have the correct jaws!

Essentially they come from the fur farming industry. The issue most folk will have with this is the lack of regulations and cruelty that goes on within them, other its the fur farming itself.

So if you dont want a skull thats gonna stink and possibly crumble aswell as funding the industry I'd avoid if I were you.

Next up Bats! Most that appear in bulk tend to be imported from Indonesia. Whilst the Bats are cool thier sourcing is not so great.

I will say however that the clear stapled packaging theyre often found in isnt always suspect. Insect breeders and small scale Bat access will also use this same methods for protection.

Frankly most Bats sourced from this background will most likely be poached. Its unlikely that they were already found dead and even suggested as being farmed is somewhat unrealistic. Its suggested that some come from pest control in protecting fruits. But who can really prove it was legal.

Buying these items can give a market for poachers and other wildlife trafficers and noone wants that.

Moving on from murky waters we land back in China, to fur farms.

Foxes from China can be so hard to navigate sometimes, theyre listed as Red or Grey Foxes, Coyotes sometimes too but most of the time the species ID is a lie. Often skulls are listed as Dogs and Tanukis and vice versa. Imagine buying a Fox and getting a Dog instead.

So not only are you being lied to but once again you're getting an awful quality skull and paying into the fur industry and potential dog napping.

It's seriously worth checking your species ID, looking at comparisons and that counts for all the skulls you buy. You just never know when you could be breaking the law other wise. Infact our next species has caused some bother recently.

There are around 10 species of Crocodile on the Red List. The Siamese Crocodile is one of them. Its status is critical and its still in decline. Poaching from the leather and meat industry are one of the many causes of Crocodile number decline.

Some of the Siamese Crocodiles are being captured for Crocodile farms in places like Cambodia and Thailand but there are smaller farm operations in China. However they are Appendix I CITES listed which means trade is only permitted in exceptional circumstances.

This has lead to several cases of police raids within the UK over the purchase of such skulls from the likes of eBay. The excuses there are simply lack of knowledge, cause theyre on eBay people think its okay.

Not only is it a CITES listed species but its also covered by COTES (Control of Trade in Endangered species) under Annex A, meaning no trade is permitted at all in the UK.

So this is the exception, these skulls and other species of Crocodile are protected and it is illegal to sell and purchase them. If in doubt check out the Species+ website for any protections they might have.

All in all please check your sourcing if it is something you are concerned about. You may be being mislead by the 'ethically sourced' title in the description. Never be afraid to ask sellers about thier sourcing, if they cant give you a straight answer then be vigilant. Check that the skulls are the species theyre being sold as, check the condition and source and mostly importantly check thier legality!

fuck im gonna watch the film theory on Ratatouille even though it’ll make me mad

 part 1.

preface: It’ll probably look like im taking this way more seriously then I actually am ( I mean I love the movie so on some level yes I am ) but I tend to come across way more aggressive then I mean too in my writing oops. Like I don’t mind people having different takes on a piece of media, you can respect and authors intent while still having your own thoughts about a work even if they don’t line up because sometimes what a creator tries to convey and what they really do aren’t exactly the same. But if you’re gonna have such a wild take you better be able to back it up with some real good evidence. Overall tho I’m mostly just doing this cuz im bored lol ( also I haven’t seen the movie in awhile so my memory is a little foggy )

So going in I already know what the argument is gonna be “ good guy bad, bad guy good” whatever, so I’m just gonna comment on the argument and presentation itself as I watch the video

Ah I see we’re going with the good ol’ “ not technically lying but intentionally omitting and/or wording things in a manner that benefits my argument “ technique, I’ve used that before.

Nitpick: As someone on twitter brought up: Protagonist doesn’t mean “good guy” it’s the leading character that the story if focused on, so even if Remy is a bad guy he’s still the protagonist.

I get it’s probably a joke but Remy’s whole deal isn’t that he wants to be famous. He just genuinely loves cooking but can’t do with without fear of being murdered since he’s y’know a rat.

He doesn’t willingly leave his colony, he’s separated from them after he blew their cover by getting caught while cooking and for prioritizing taking the cookbook over escaping.

I’ll just say it now since i’m sure it’ll be brought up later, yeah Remy is kind of selfish, and thats actually a good thing. Him being a flawed character makes him more interesting and this also swiftly sets up his character arc early into the film.

“ If this sounds like an inspirational story about overcoming obstacles and achieving your destiny... you missed the point.” bruh the arc words of the film are literally “Anyone can cook”, it’s about overcoming prejudice to achieve your dreams in spite of everyone telling you not to because of the identity you are born with ( this is not just seen with Remy but also Colette, a female chef )

“Narcissist” As I said before yes Remy is selfish and at times this makes him unlikable but he genuinely cares about his family but he struggles to connect with them since they can’t understand why he’s so passionate about cooking.

Calling it now, the crux of this argument is going to be the scene where Remy gets mad about Linguini taking all the credit for Remy’s work during an interview. Which yeah I’ll agree that Remy was being unrealistic but Linguini had been ignoring Remy’s advice and had grown a bit of an ego which of course eventually leading to Remy having a heated gamer moment and doing abusing Linguini’s trust which the story punishes him for. It’s not a simple right or wrong situation but more of a two wrongs don’t make a right type.

“Jerk of a creature” Newsflash! Not all protagonists are nice, even the ones that aren’t villain protagonists!

First point: Remy is a thief and a hypocrite. I’ll admit I was agreeing that Remy is a hypocrite until he gets to the point of Remy letting his family steal from the kitchen. 1.) This was when him and Linguini were starting to have a falling out, he was angry at him and starting letting that affect his judgement. Was this wrong of him? Yes and he regrets his actions. 2.) Remy cares for his family even if they don’t always get along and his anger at Linguini makes it easier for them to pressure him into letting them steal.

“Remy never learns his lesson” maybe not explicitly but he does face punishment throughout the story. Stealing the book and food from the old lady costs his family their home and gets him separated from them. Allowing his family to steal from the kitchen leads to Linguini calling off their partnership. I don’t remember him stealing again after that.

Also is he implying that Remy is bad for stealing the will that proves that Linguini is the rightful heir to the Gustaeu that Skinner was trying to hide so he could keep profiting off of a dead mans work?

Remy is aware that what he’s doing is wrong, we are shown this through the figment of Gustaeu which represents his conscience reprimanding it but Remy continues to justify himself until it’s too late. He is a flawed character.

“In a realistic context.” Good thing this is a Disney kids film

Fraud!? You’re gonna grill Remy for fraud when Skinner is the one intentionally keeping Linguini from learning about his birth right?!?!?

“Poor Linguini. The sap that Remy controls like a puppet.” here we go again with the manipulative wording hooray

I see where he’s going with this one and it’s really funny to me that’s interpreting Gustaeu’s “Anyone can cook” line the same way Ego does for most of the film. Ego takes the opposite stance MatPat does by mocking the line because to the critic not everyone has what it takes to be a great chef. It’s by the end of the film he changes his perspective on the line to the idea that a great cook can come from anywhere even in the most unexpected of forms like Remy.

Gotta love the clip he added of pre-character development Remy being a jerk to Linguini before to two even met. It really ads to the manipulative wording he uses to make Remy look underhanded and shifty.

Is he really gonna gloss over Remy attempting and failing to teach Linguini how to cook? Remy is a fucking rat who can’t talk directly to Linguini attempting so teaching him would be really damn hard. Not only that but they are on a time crunch and don’t have the time necessary to teach Linguini how to cook like Remy can.

Also whose to say that by watching what Remy is making him do Linguini hasn’t picked up any cooking techniques by the end of the film.

It’s not like Remy freaking forced Linguini into being his man-puppet. Remy is a small animal who can’t talk to people so honestly Linguini has most of the power in their dynamic. Linguini can call of their partnership anytime he wants and even does so after Remy is caught letting his family steal.

Jesus I feel most of what I have to say will just be me restating what I already said. Ugh lemme just summarize it: Remy is a flawed and selfish rat who often prioritizes following his dreams over his responsibilities putting not just himself but his family at risk. But guess what? He faces consequences for that! His actions get him separated from his family and lost in a giant city, the only reason he doesn’t die is because he got lucky and found Linguini ( also because it’s a film and it ending at the start would be lame )

Also so is he arguing that Remy should just accept his lot in life and give up on his dreams because he can’t change the fact that he’s a rat ( which MatPat often reminds us by calling him unhygienic a lot so far ) as if that’s not the crux of his character dilemma.

I agree it’s wrong of him to put his family at risk but that only applies to the opening of the movie. How is he the only one in the wrong later in the film when both him and Linguini acknowledge to risk of their teamwork?

No need to bring up that The Jungle is a fictional story, nope! I guess it’s only fitting to use a fictional book as evidence for an argument covering the logistics of a fictional movie!!!!!!

Remy didn’t fucking “quit” his “job” as a rat poison sniffer, he still does it but he also cooks in secret. When he’s caught he’s separated from his colony ( which MatPat still hasn’t brought up ) so of fucking course he can’t keep sniffing for a clan when he is literally not there!!!!

Also if he’s talking about later in the film when Remy refuses to rejoin the colony when he reunites with Emile then we get the moral dilemma of Remy rejoining his family while fucking over Linguini who can’t cook because Remy is a small rodent and can’t adequately teach him do to a language barrier.

Ok then...

So a little while ago I did a post about my thoughts on the newest RWBY manga. It was mostly a bunch of scattered ramblings, but essentially i broke down why I believe it was better than the show (at least starting out). 

I originally wanted to do all the chapters up to now in that post, but since I spent so much time on the first chapter alone, I thought it best to just do a post for each chapter as I reread them. You guys seemed to like my thoughts on the first one, so here we go with chapter two.

Heads Up: This will not be a review of the chapter itself per se, it will be a comparison between the manga and original source material. As such I will be spending most of the time going over the character interactions, slight world-building changes, and anything else I see different. Cool? Let’s get started then...

So chapter 2 of the starts out just as chapter 4 of the show did, though with a noticeable change in Ruby’s attitude. 

In the original she was practically bouncing off the walls, excited by the prospect of fighting monsters. Here she is much more somber, reflecting on what happened the previous day, as well as expressing apprehension with teaming up with what are essentially a bunch of strangers. 

I like this change very much honestly. It makes Ruby a much more relatable and realized character, which is something the show didn’t readily do until way later. She’s in a completely new environment (one she still feels she doesn’t fully belong in), and her first interactions with people that aren’t her sister have been less than positive. It makes sense that she would be worried. 

I think Yang also comes off a bit better in these scenes. Before she was kind of treating Ruby as a bit of a pest. Sure she wants her to be more sociable, but there it seemed more like out of a desire to not have her little sister “cramp her style” while here she’s doing her best to encourage her. So good job there.

Next we get a better look at Jaune (who briefly appeared in chapter one) and are formally introduced to Pyrrha. Not much to say here since the scene is pretty much the same, but I will point out that Jaune speaking french was a nice little touch given his character origin. 

Ruby’s face is also great here. Really makes her feel like an outsider looking in.

I also wanted to highlight this little nugget:

The fact that anyone is jealous of Jaune about anything is hilarious.

The next crucial scene is when Weiss and Ruby meet in the Emerald Forest. Now the way this happens in canon is fine for what it is, but how this plays out in the manga speaks more to the characters. 

Weiss (like in the original) walks away, but instead of chasing her, Ruby simply lets her go; and is relieved to have done it, telling herself that they didn’t see one another. Remember, so far established in the story these two DO NOT like each other. To Weiss, Ruby is nothing more than a child that lucked her way into Beacon, and to Ruby, Weiss is a stuck-up, rich jerk. It makes sense that they would not want to pair with one another. They just can’t get along. It’s the same as in the series, but the manga does it much better in my opinion because of one thing: consistent character arcs.

Ok this is going to get a little long (too late). When Ruby is first introduced into the series, she had a Flat Character Arc (at least from what I perceived). For those who don’t know, a Flat Character arc is one in which said character does NOT change for better or worse; they are well...flat. They have come to terms with themselves and thus have been fully realized before the story even starts. So if they will not change, the world instead changes around them in an attempt to challenge or reinforce those beliefs. Examples of this are Son Goku and Saitama from One Punch Man.

The main crux of the flat arc is “The truth that the character believes”. It is a truth that they know to be real and will not waiver from, no matter what the plot throws at them.

Goku’s truth for example, is that he can always be better than he was yesterday. That no matter how strong he gets, there will always be someone stronger to fight. That is why he trains and how he overcomes his problems, through this truth to be better and force of will. 

Ruby’s truth was that no matter what she would be a hero. She would protect people and become a Huntress like in her stories. 

Which would have worked fine...if the show kept to that ideal. 

In the beginning, Ruby was flat. She never really experienced any setbacks, she was never in the wrong, and she was never really challenged by anyone. Her team pretty much went along with everything she did without question and she never really had a problem in any fight she was put in. She was essentially...a mary sue (even chibi pointed that out). She didn’t have to learn how to overcome her prejudices like Weiss, face her past like Blake, or even shoulder the familial burdens that Yang had to (who was also kind of flat but thats another discussion). Ruby pretty much had nothing to worry about, until V3.

Volume 3 is where the story shifts. Our characters are met with an action that provides lasting consequences: The deaths of Penny, Pyrrha, and Ozpin, the destruction of the school, Yang losing her arm, Blake confronting Adam and running away to Menagerie, Weiss going home, etc. 

In a flat character arc, Ruby would learn from these experiences and acquire a new skill (silver eyes) in which to reinforce her beliefs and defeat the Lie of the world (Salem’s forces)...but she doesn’t. Ruby waivers and does nothing while the Lie continues to spread, this is where her character begins to fail. 

Her teammates (as well as everyone else around her) are experiencing their own arcs whether they be positive (Yang, Blake, Weiss, Jaune, Ren, Nora, etc.) or Negative (Emerald, Adam, Raven, and Salem). Ruby remains static, but not in a way that is compelling. She doesn’t change the world, she’s just in it. As such she remains stagnant. 

Miles and Kerry wrote her arc in reverse. They started flat, but then tried to go positive. That doesn’t work because it challenges everything that came before it and in turn makes Ruby worse. Looking back, her progression from Volumes 4-6 was a (somewhat) good example of a positive character arc. She saw problems that changed her and allowed her to overcome (Tyrian, Battle of Haven, Brunswick Farm, Cordovin, and the Leviathan). The problem was that volumes 1-3 were spent with her being completely flat. The dichotomy only made things frustrating to watch from an audience perspective because the flat arc was not presented in the right way for the story to build on it. 

Switching back to the manga (finally): Kinami instead switches things around and gives Ruby a positive character arc. This arc is all about “the Lie the character believes” as opposed to the Truth of the Flat Arc. In the manga, the lie Ruby tells herself is: “I don’t belong.”

She skipped two grades, was forced into a place she doesn’t know, and is constantly told by others that her dream is childish and she should go home. This is what leads to her more dour and self-deprecating personality (as well as her already socially awkward behavior). She is constantly challenged and thus continues to doubt herself, which strengthens the lie.

Weiss is not exempt from this either: 

Upon leaving Ruby she tries to find a partner, leading her to Jaune (hanging from a tree as in the show) who she also refuses. In the show, she goes back to Ruby in another humorous moment, but in the manga she doesn’t. The Lie Weiss believes is that she must be perfect, and thus only the perfect partner (notably Pyrrha or someone similar) will aid in that Lie and let her achieve her impossible goals. Without perfection, she is nothing.

The conviction in the belief of this lie nearly leads to her death when she is ambushed by Grimm. 

This leads to the most climactic moment of the chapter.

Ruby saves Weiss, but she still isn’t friendly with her. She tells her that she didn’t want to be her partner, but letting her die would not be right and she wouldn’t be the Huntress she wanted to be if she let that happen. That new resolve all stemmed from this moment earlier in the chapter:

Like Weiss, Ruby thought to leave and find her sister, but it was Yang’s words that made her rethink her action: “Remember what you’re here for. This is to become the Huntress you dream of being right?”

This is the first step towards Ruby’s positive character change. Again it turns a comedic scene serious, but its all in service of the characters and makes them better. She goes back to defend and team with someone she decidedly does not like, because it furthers her goal. It helps dissolve the Lie, and forces them to work together. 

 Chapter 2 is just as good, if not better than chapter 1. We get a much better look at the characters, but we also start to encounter the manga’s one major flaw; but we’ll get into that in the next part.

Sonally ‘Partners’

(Something a bit different, mostly from a certain chinchilla's perspective, as she tries to get vengeance for the Eggman Empire)

Finally. It had been months since their final defeat in the Dark Gaia Crisis, and, ever since the moment she found out, the chinchilla knew that the Freedom Fighters were to blame. How dare they try to foil Lord Eggman's brilliant plan to take over the world?! Such fools, always trying to sabotage such a brilliant man.

But, now, they would finally be getting their just desserts~

Using special equipment the doctor had loaned to them for taking out a certain couple of pests, they had already managed to capture Mighty and Ray, preventing the two of them from assisting a certain pair of Freedom Fighters who had come there any further.

Now it was just a matter of them going into the jungle, and hunting the hedgehog and chipmunk down. She was more than sure she would make them pay~

"Squad Alpha-1! Squad Beta-2!" She pointed out her mecha hand toward the edge of the jungle that they could see. "Spread out and find them! Report when you do~"

The two groups fearfully saluted the chinchilla, and quickly moved to carry out her orders.

She couldn't help but smirk, sitting there in the cockpit of her usual mecha. This would be a piece of cake~

...Only, maybe not so much. It wasn't long at all before she heard loud grunts, yelps, and other such sounds that indicated injuries. And, when it finally had gone more or less silent-

She activated her comm. "Squad A-1, B-2, report! ...DID YOU HEAR ME?! I said report!"

Nothing. Just static. Had the two of them managed to take out some of her best grunts already...? Were they just that good, or-?

She shook her head, chuckling to herself. No. They were just lucky, thats all. In her eyes, they weren't strong, and, they certainly weren't skillful enough to beat the likes of her.

"Fine then, you fools! I will go ahead and deal with you myself~" Her mech started trudging right into the jungle, with a confidence that indicated she didn't even believe failure was possibly in these circumstances.

After a little walking, she hummed in thought. She had no idea where exactly in the jungle the two were at the moment...But, then, she grunted, as something hit her from the backside with quite a bit of force! Of course, her mech could handle it...But, then, something glowing blue slashed against her cockpit glass, shortly after she had been attacked from behind.

Snarling a little, she looked around- But, apparently, the attackers had already disappeared. It had more than likely been the infamous(To the Eggman Empire, at least) Freedom Fighter Leader pair. But...That did seem like a pretty coordinated attack. Could they really-?

No! No! Whatever sneaky tactics they came up with, they would still fall to the might and glory of the Eggman empire! She just had to be more alert.

She continued on, doing her best to remain ready for an attack, but, suddenly- OOF! She grunted, the mech stumbling forward, as something hit her cockpit area from behind! No, wait...Two somethings! As she looked up, she could see the princess and hedgehog swinging away on vines, before jumping out of sight again.

"Rrrggghhhh...!" She slammed the right fist of her mech against a nearby tree violently. "Those two thing they can just play Tarzan together, and make a fool out of me in the process?! No! The only ones who are going to be made fools are them..."

She continued forward, angrily...Then, a few minutes, she yelped as something blue spundash right into her cockpit. Growling, she tried to hit him, but, no avail. And, when she tried to use her right arm...Nothing. It wouldn't react! She checked her systems, and- "What in blazes...?!"

Something had slashed through the right arm's shoulder joint while she had been distracted! Could it have been the princess...? Did they really set her up again like this?!

"THAT'S IT! I WILL NOT FALL VICTIM TO ONE OF YOUR SNEAKY TACTICS AGAIN!"

She moved forward, angrily fuming, not completely paying attention, until- Oh! Oohhhhoooo~ There the princess was, right infront of a ravine, going down at least 30 feet to a river below. Grinning, she changed the mech's left hand into a cannon. "End of the line, princess. Any last words, before I end you, and search for the blue fool~?"

...She just stood there, crossing her arms, smirking. "Yeah, maybe you should try to stop gloating, and thinking that you're about to win, when you could easily be about to lose...?"

What? What was she even-?!

...It occured to her too late that she should have been suspicious that the hedgehog had been missing.

Suddenly, something hit her hard in the back side, causing her to fall forward, the princess carving through her right mech leg, causing her to fall into the ravine, screaming rather shrilly and loudly...Until finally, she splashed-crashed down right into the river below.

Grunting, she began to open up her cockpit. "Well...Never again am I going to let the two of them set the battleground for the fight." And, as she started climbing out, she knew she would never let something happen like this to her again.

...Although, she had mostly definitely been wrong before.
