Are you looking for top-notch personal training in West Vancouver? Whether you're aiming to lose weight, build muscle, or simply improve your overall fitness, personal training can be the key to achieving your goals. West Vancouver offers some of the most beautiful landscapes, and what better way to enjoy this stunning area than by improving your health and fitness with expert personal training? In this blog, we’ll explore how personal training can make a significant difference in your fitness journey, and why choosing a trainer in West Vancouver might be the perfect solution for you.
Why Personal Training in West Vancouver?
Personalized Approach for Optimal Results
One of the primary reasons people seek personal training in West Vancouver is the highly personalized approach. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced athlete, personal trainers can create a custom fitness plan tailored to your specific needs. They focus on your unique goals, fitness level, and potential obstacles. By working with a trainer, you get access to expert knowledge and support, ensuring you're on the right track to reach your goals efficiently and safely.
A Beautiful Setting to Stay Motivated
West Vancouver offers breathtaking views and a variety of outdoor spaces, from beaches to mountains, which makes it an ideal place to stay active. Personal trainers in the area often incorporate the natural environment into training sessions. Whether you're working out on the beach, hiking the trails, or taking advantage of local parks, personal training in West Vancouver makes fitness not only effective but also enjoyable. The serene surroundings motivate you to stay consistent with your workouts, allowing you to push yourself beyond limits you might have thought possible.
What to Expect From Personal Training in West Vancouver
A Comprehensive Fitness Assessment
Your personal training journey in West Vancouver will often begin with an in-depth fitness assessment. This includes a review of your current fitness level, health history, and personal goals. A skilled trainer will evaluate your strengths, weaknesses, and any injury concerns to create a program that’s both challenging and safe for you. Whether you're interested in personal training in North Vancouver or the West Vancouver area, the assessment process is crucial for establishing a strong foundation.
Goal-Oriented Training
When you work with a personal trainer, you’ll establish clear, actionable fitness goals. Whether your goal is to improve endurance, lose weight, build muscle, or increase flexibility, your trainer will tailor each workout specifically to that goal. By regularly tracking your progress, trainers can adjust your plan, keeping your routine fresh and exciting while ensuring continuous improvement.
Expert Guidance and Motivation
One of the most significant advantages of personal training in West Vancouver is the expertise trainers bring to the table. Personal trainers are certified professionals who are trained in anatomy, nutrition, and effective workout techniques. Their job is not just to guide you through your workouts, but to provide the motivation and accountability you need to push through tough moments. This expertise helps prevent injuries, ensures you're performing exercises correctly, and optimizes your workout for the best results.
Why Choose Personal Training in North Vancouver?
A Diverse Range of Fitness Services
In addition to personal training in West Vancouver, personal training in North Vancouver is a great option for those who live in the area or simply enjoy the unique fitness offerings available in this part of the city. North Vancouver is home to a vibrant fitness community with a diverse range of services. Whether you're looking for strength training, cardio, or sports-specific training, personal trainers in North Vancouver can design a program tailored to your needs.
The Perfect Balance of Nature and Fitness
Like West Vancouver, North Vancouver is rich in natural beauty, including the famous Grouse Mountain and countless hiking trails. These outdoor spaces provide the perfect backdrop for personal training, with trainers utilizing the local environment to enhance your workout experience. Whether you enjoy trail running, outdoor boot camps, or simply training in a local park, North Vancouver offers a balance between nature and fitness that motivates and challenges you.
Flexible Training Options
A major benefit of personal training in North Vancouver is the wide range of training options available. Whether you're interested in one-on-one sessions, small group personal training, or even virtual sessions, North Vancouver has something to offer. Personal training in this area is adaptable to fit your schedule, fitness level, and preferences.
Small Group Personal Training: The Best of Both Worlds
If you're looking for a more affordable way to get the benefits of personal training without the higher costs of one-on-one sessions, small group personal training may be the perfect solution for you. This type of training involves small groups of 3-5 people working with a trainer to achieve their fitness goals. It's a great option for people who want personalized attention but also enjoy the camaraderie and motivation that comes with working out in a group setting.
Benefits of Small Group Personal Training
Cost-Effective: Small group training allows you to split the cost of a personal trainer with others, making it a more affordable option compared to individual training sessions.
Motivation and Accountability: Working out with others who have similar fitness goals can boost your motivation and help you stay accountable. The group dynamic encourages support, competition, and camaraderie, making your training more enjoyable and effective.
Personalized Attention: Even though small group training involves multiple participants, trainers still provide individual attention to ensure that each person is performing exercises correctly and safely. This ensures you receive the benefits of both group training and personalized guidance.
Variety and Fun: Small group personal training often involves varied workouts that keep things exciting. From HIIT workouts to strength training circuits, the diversity of exercises will keep you engaged while targeting all aspects of fitness.
How Personal Training Can Benefit You
Improved Fitness and Health
The primary goal of personal training in West Vancouver is to improve your overall fitness and health. Working with a professional trainer helps you develop strength, endurance, flexibility, and balance. The guidance of an expert ensures you engage in the most effective exercises for your body, and the motivation keeps you going when you might otherwise quit.
Boosted Confidence
Achieving fitness goals with the help of a personal trainer can also have a profound impact on your self-esteem. As you see yourself getting stronger, fitter, and healthier, your confidence will naturally increase. You’ll feel more empowered and motivated to continue working toward your goals, both in and out of the gym.
Injury Prevention
A significant benefit of personal training is the focus on injury prevention. Many people experience injuries by performing exercises incorrectly or pushing themselves too hard. Personal trainers ensure that you perform each exercise with the correct form and technique, minimizing the risk of injury. If you have pre-existing injuries, trainers will modify exercises to ensure you can still work out without exacerbating the problem.
Improved Mental Health
Exercise has long been linked to improved mental health, and personal training is no exception. Regular physical activity can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, improving your overall well-being. With personal training in West Vancouver, you’ll not only work on your physical fitness but also your mental health, as regular exercise is proven to boost mood and energy levels.
Ready to Get Started with Personal Training?
If you're ready to take the next step and begin your personal training journey, the next step is easy. So my estranged grandfather passed away in the wee morning hours today. Seventeen years and one day since my Canadian grandfather died - which is very odd.
He wasn't what I would say was a good grandfather, nor a good father. He wasn't even a very good man. I started distancing myself from him around 2016, and was fully out of his life by 2018. He was verbally and emotionally abusive, enjoyed toying with people and their emotions, used people for his own personal gain, gaslit like it was his fucking job, and was generally neglectful to his duties as a father and a grandfather - especially to my sister and I. I can count on one hand the times he actually remembered my birthday when I was a kid, but even those moments were probably prompted by my mum or his girlfriend or his ex-wife.
But he had his moments, and I think I should say a few words about him and who he was.
He was born in a town in Hungary in 1935, near Lake Balaton. He was the youngest of the children, his brothers old enough to serve during WWII. During the war he talked about how he and his friends would go out to the abandoned battlefields and collect ammunition from the German and Soviet tanks, pile them in cow pastures, and set them off to scare the cows and other livestock. He said once school resumed after the war, a lot of kids came into class with missing fingers or even missing hands. He was lucky in that the only injury he received during his dumbass-ery was slicing his ass open on a destroyed German tank.
After the war he remained in the area, growing up with minimal education and helping run the household (his eldest brother had committed suicide shortly after the war was over). But in 1956, Hungary had their failed revolution in a desperate attempt to kick out the Soviet occupation. My grandfather wasn't part of the fighting, but he had enough sense to listen to one of the elders in the village who said that if they wanted to get the fuck out of Hungary and past the Iron Curtain, now was their time to run.
So he fled to Austria with some of his friends. They stayed in a refugee camp where he tried to learn basic English, before Canada accepted Hungarian refugees in 1958. So, along with some friends he'd made in the camp, he got on a boat and had a miserable trip across the Atlantic to the harbour of Halifax (he said that he could barely eat the entire trip because he was so sea sick). From there, he was put on a train that went across Canada, and he could get off on at any stop and just... start a new life.
It was, of course, the dead of winter when he and his friends arrived. Canada during the winter isn't pleasant - doubly so when you've come from the relatively mild Hungarian countryside. But one of his friends had family in Vancouver, and so he suggested they stay on the train all the way to the West Coast. Satisfied with this idea, my Papa agreed.
Only he made it as far as my home city in Alberta. You see, my city has this funky weather phenomena called a 'chinook.' Chinooks are when warm winds from the Pacific flow into the area and rush down the mountains and across the prairies, causing an inversion of air that rapidly warms up the city for a few days. We can go from -20C degree temperatures one day, to +15C the next. So when my Papa arrived in my city it was warm. Deceptively so. Ignoring his friend's suggestion they just continue on to Vancouver, my Papa decided to get off and start his new life.
The next day the train rolled out, and with it the freezing cold temperatures returned.
Despite it all he remained where he was. Life as a Hungarian refugee was tough. He knew very little English, and wasn't sure how to navigate life in a city that had developed past his home town in Hungary. He told me a story about trying to figure out how an automatic door worked, as well as trying to ask a store clerk where the bars of soap were, only to be taken to the canned soup aisle.
But as he learned English and adapted to Canada, he decided to sign up for architectural classes. He eventually got good enough at the gig that he became an expert in concrete as a building material, and helped to build one of the more iconic buildings in my city that is shaped like a saddle (which, if you know, you know).
In 1961, he and some fellow Hungarians decided to go to a dance at the local German-Canadian club where he met my German grandmother. She'd just moved to Canada, and had made the unfortunate decision to dance with the handsome Hungarian lad in the corner. Few months later she realized she was pregnant with my mum, and they got married before she gave birth.
Their marriage wasn't a happy one. But regardless, my Grandma had two more children with him before filing for divorce.
Growing up my Papa was always this strange, nebulous figure in my life. My sister and I were the eldest of the grandchildren, so we had to deal with his fumbled attempts at trying to be a grandfather when it was clear he didn't care. My mum would take us over to his house where they would argue the whole time, while my sister and I sat in the basement watching Jesus Christ Superstar on repeat. Gifts for birthdays usually came in the form of money, but I can remember the few times he actually bought me something. One time, he took me to the circus which ended up terrifing me because of the loud noises and bright lights. But instead of yelling at me or mocking me, he took me out of the show and bought me a teddy bear to sooth me. It was light brown with a white belly, with a yellow ribbon as a tie. I cherished that thing for a long time.
When I was old enough to carry a conversation, and he realized that I had an interest in ancient history like he did, we started chatting more. For a time it was fine. But then I realized that he liked to poke and prod and jab - liked to make people uncomfortable because it made him laugh. I would say something about my studies, and he would retort with something completely bigoted just to see me get flustered. I'll admit that I put up with it longer than I should have. The final straw was when I told him what my Masters studies would be on - how ancient Greek ideals on masculinity and male same-sex relations influenced the early German Gay Rights movement. His response was 'Good - show the world how your grandmother's people are a bunch of homos.'
He didn't believe what he was saying. He wasn't homophobic - unless he knew he could make it hurt. Which is almost worse, in a way.
After that I distanced myself. I didn't go to any family events he would be present at, and if I was forced to go I wouldn't speak with him. The last time I saw him was a few years ago when he was giving out cheques from his estate, under the assumption that he only had a few years left. I was surprised that I was even included, but then I realized that once again it was someone else in his life that had made sure I was looked after. This time it was my aunt.
I think the last thing I said to him was 'take care' or something along those lines. An impersonal greeting, one made out of social obligation more than anything.
I'm not sad about his passing, but I do worry about those who are left behind. My mother claims she doesn't care, but I know she still has lingering feelings - how could she not, he was her father, after all. My aunts are grieving terribly for a person that I never got to meet. Not really. My cousins who had a better relationship with him for the most part, are probably feeling the loss. And my sister, bless her, is worried for everyone else. His death will leave a crater in the family - one last 'fuck you' to his children, whom he loved to see fight over his affections and attention.
He had a lot of bad qualities, but some good as well. He was determined, he was curious, and he loved to learn. He was brave in the sense of leaving everything he knew behind just for a shot at something better. He had a good sense of humour (when he wasn't being a jerk), and I think deep down he did love his family. Just maybe not as much as he loved himself.

My rewrite/headcanon is that Jake lives in east Canada/Quebec and Tom lives in west Canada/Vancouver. The reason why Tom has been so distant with Jake isn't simply that he's an awful person, but long distance relationships are understandably hard.
I say after season 1, Tom moves in with his family for a bit. He needs to go through police training, get a new job, move out of his parents house, refigure his whole life, and that takes months. Just saying Tom ghosts Jake for two years makes their relationship toxic. Why would the audience want them to get back together? Saying they did text/call each other, but couldn't talk in person due to outside reasons, it puts a realistic strain on their relationship.
Tom's mistake/flaw comes in when he doesn't move to live with Jake AFTER he's sorted out his life, but maybe by that point it's been a year since they talked face to face. Instead of Tom just being "scared", say their long distance relationship made them drift apart. Then when they do meet in season 3, we are shown them reconnecting because it's easier to bond in person than through texting. We are shown their relationship troubles aren't 100% their fault, they aren't just toxic, they can work if only they lived near each other.
So they rebuild their relationship, and Tom finds the resolve to move across the country to be with Jake again. And we actually care about it, because instead of 12 episodes of drama, we should be shown why these two are meant for each other.
nodding along nodding along the drama pisses me offffffff this is a great idea!!

small WORLD
I can't seem to ignore a book about the Pacific Crest Trail. I don't see all of them much less read all of them. I was visiting a friend and on the way out the door to go home I noticed he had a book about, you guessed it, the PCT. This particular book is titled 'Walking Home'. We posted an excerpt from it a few weeks back.
As you may have read in the intro to that post or may remember the author, Rick Rogers was not exactly a stranger to me. I had met him a few years ago walking a section in the Mojave. After reading his book I got in touch with him as he just happens to live not far from me in northwest Washington.
We agreed to meet up for (what else?) a walk. The conversation came easily. As we got reacquainted Rick told me he would be leaving for England in a few short days with his teenage son and Rick's non hiking sister to walk the Southwest Coast Path in southwest England. I have walked short portions of that trail and it can be spectacular. My enthusiasm for Rick's next hike was high for many reasons. The first one was my family and I lived in southwest England a while back and we love the area. We also made some very good friends there who we maintain a solid connection with even today.
I offered to put Rick in contact with a couple I know there who have walked the entire Southwest Coast Path and would be perfect resources for him. After I returned home from my walk with Rick I called my friends Duncan and Sandy. I gave them a soft sell..."what would you think...? This person I recently met may contact you...I don't know if he will...If he does, he may need a ride to the start of his walk...what do you think? " True to form Sandy and Duncan were more than agreeable. Over the years we have known each other they have listened to me sharing many PCT stories and read a few too. They were tickled to find themselves in the role of trail angels quite a ways from the PCT. I passed their response back to Rick and let the cards fall wherever they might.
About a week or so later I heard from Duncan. Yes, Rick had contacted them. Yes he and Sandy picked up Rick and his party at the train station and brought them to their house for lunch. Yes they had even made a short stop to grab some last minute supplies in town before heading off to Minehead where they would begin their journey. Amazing but not surprising. This was an example of 'trail magic' at least once removed...
Off Rick, his sister, and son headed west and Duncan and Sandy returned home. In a few weeks they would be heading to Calgary for a summer holiday that would bring them to us in Washington. The connection that came together was a marvel to me. I couldn't wait to hear more about their experience with Rick and his family. But wait! There is more!
Duncan and Sandy came to us via the train from Vancouver BC. I was anxiously awaiting them on the platform as the train pulled in. The first people off the train were a woman with a smallish backpack and a teenager also carrying a backpack. Not an unusual sight around here in the summer especially. Next off were Sandy and Duncan. Duncan was pointing wildly at the two people who just disembarked from the train. I didn't quite understand. "This is Rick's family!" he exclaimed. I couldn't believe it. Rick had continued on the Coast Path as planned and these two had come back home after a few weeks walking via Vancouver as planned. Unplanned was the rendezvous with Sandy and Duncan in the Vancouver train station and the animated conversation on the train south.
The story of me reading Rick's book, our meeting, drafting a potential contact, having the contact more than work out, then meeting up on the train nearly has brought this story full circle. My dear friend Jim Peacock refers to these kind of events as happenstance. Others might call it kismet. While still others might just refer to it all as a form of trail magic. Whatever you call it it is a reminder of how small connections can shrink a big world. Those connections are heartwarming in the least. Heartening for sure while helping me see how small this world really is. Now to complete the circle I am waiting for Rick to return home so he can tell me the rest of the story.

you’ll never guess who i saw in stanley park. that’s right, it was ELEANOR DEVAR. [ she/her ] is a [publishing coordinator] and they’re apparently a/an [slayer ]. did you hear they are [talented and adept ] but also [ reluctant and repellent ]? no wonder, anyone who reminds me of [ any extremely small apartment, someone content in the back of the crowd, the surprise when one last firework goes off] is sure to give that impression.
Basic Information
Full Name: Eleanor Devar
Nickname(s): El, EL D
Age: 25
Date of Birth: June 22
Hometown: Monmouth County, New Jersey
Current Location: Vancouver
Occupation: Publishing Coordinator
Living Arrangements: A small, very last minute apartment
Eleanor’s one claim to fame was taking out a vampire nest that ran a casino hotel in Atlantic City when she was eighteen. The situation did quickly turn unsightly, especially for the shot-gun wedding taking place in the lobby where it was revealed shortly after that the groom was indeed a Torto demon who had gotten a discount on the location after the vampire in charge owed him in a kitten bet.
And it raised Eleanor’s profile a little more than the Watcher’s Council had cared for. It seemed that with the sheer number of slayers popping up, that standing out was becoming a problem.
That in itself was shocking for Eleanor, who often made herself small and did as she was told. Her watcher did advocate on her behalf and frankly, she was happy to go back to nightly patrols on the shore and boardwalk until it was time to start college.
From Monmouth County to Monmouth University, Eleanor seemed like a sheltered kid who never strayed far from home. She balanced what she could between being a teen in a sea of high schoolers, a slayer in a sea of those recently activated, and then a young adult in a sea of commuters into the city.
As word spread about Vancouver, Eleanor’s senses elevated - where was her duty and what did she actually owe back to anyone? Was this about being an individual slayer or about what she'd be able to do if she joined that growing group?
Her early career as a publishing and editorial coordinator was suffering as her grades had suffered because of the late nights training, and her ‘destiny’ suffered because her missions never played to her strengths.
Little El D from Jersey begged HR to transfer her to the west coast Vancouver office.
Little El D from Jersey hugged her mom tight wondering if she’d be safer without her around (let’s face it hell mouths draw in evil, but slayers attract it like bees to pollen).
Little EL D shipped herself out there without any word to her old watcher still somewhere in Monmouth County with a new batch of tween potential slayers.
In Vancouver, El got herself a small apartment. She’s still trying to decorate the best she can. Her new office was smaller, less gray than the old one and the flow of work seemed different. She was never one to say something was better or worse, just different. As for the balance of slaying and ‘destiny’ as it was often put before her - she was cynical, skeptical. As usual El did what was asked and got the job done… but that little spark that went off in her that one time - that one time that she made it out against every odd in the world - hadn’t seemed to re-ignite.
FACTS AND STUFF
El never went far from home, never traveled for slaying or training
Word spread fast when she was 18 after the hotel incident. It seemed either she was going to either be the next great or the next rogue agent. When neither happened, El shrunk into herself more
She was always shy and is absolutely the cutest and sweetest person in the word. But that "spark" oh yeah there's some rage in there
Yes, El’s reputation is something she’s struggling to live up to - but that’s much more internalized than it is how the external world sees her
Plot and Connection Ideas
A Slayer who was meant to potentially be her replacement back home when the Council was skeptical of El’s ability to control situations and was afraid she’d become a rogue slayer
A watcher in Vancouver who she has a very complicated relationship with - maybe they are trying to get her to experiment more with her skillset because they’ve seen that side of her come out - even when she doesn’t herself
The Kingpin Vampire of Atlantic City (working title) - so like yes Eleanor took out that nest running a casino hotel, but what if there was a bigger picture...someone else who's business venture was ruined that night
More ideas to come!

The Best Child Care Options in West Vancouver and the North Shore
When it comes to finding the right child care for your little one, the options can sometimes feel overwhelming. As a parent, you want a nurturing and safe environment for your child, where they can grow, learn, and thrive. Luckily, child care in West Vancouver and the North Shore offers a variety of excellent options that cater to different needs and preferences. Whether you're looking for daycare, preschool, or a more flexible child care arrangement, there are several reputable centers that provide top-notch care.
Understanding the Importance of Child Care
Before diving into the best options available, it's important to recognize the significance of quality child care. During the early years, children’s brains develop at an astonishing rate. The experiences they have in these formative years lay the foundation for future learning, socialization, and emotional development. Therefore, choosing a child care provider that aligns with your values and offers a stimulating environment is crucial.
Top Factors to Consider for Child Care in West Vancouver and the North Shore
Location For many families, the location of child care is a top priority. Thankfully, both West Vancouver and the North Shore have multiple centers that are easily accessible and strategically located to suit different communities. You’ll find everything from urban centers to more residential options that fit into your routine and proximity to work or home.
Programs Offered Another important factor to consider when choosing child care is the variety of programs available. Many centers in West Vancouver and the North Shore offer specialized programs that cater to the developmental needs of children at different age levels. These programs include infant care, toddler care, preschool programs, and after-school care. Some centers even offer early childhood education programs, where children get a head start in learning foundational skills that are essential for their academic journey.
Experienced and Caring Staff The staff at any child care facility should be highly trained and experienced in caring for children. Look for certified early childhood educators who are passionate about working with kids and who create a warm, engaging environment. Good communication between caregivers and parents is essential for building trust and ensuring your child’s well-being.
Safety and Cleanliness The safety of your child is paramount. Child care in West Vancouver and the North Shore centers maintain rigorous safety standards, including childproofing, secure entryways, and health protocols. Always ensure that the center you choose has appropriate child-to-caregiver ratios, regular inspections, and health guidelines in place.
Parental Reviews and Testimonials One of the best ways to find a reliable child care facility is to read reviews from other parents. Online platforms, word of mouth, and personal referrals are valuable resources when evaluating a child care provider. Positive reviews from parents who have had positive experiences can give you peace of mind that the facility is reputable.
Popular Child Care Centers in West Vancouver and the North Shore
Several centers in both West Vancouver and the North Shore stand out for their excellent care, engaging learning environments, and reputation in the community. Some notable centers include:
Kidi Kare Child Care Center Known for its innovative learning programs, Kidi Kare in West Vancouver focuses on fostering creativity, independence, and socialization skills in a nurturing, safe environment.
North Shore Early Learning Center Located in the heart of the North Shore, this center offers high-quality infant, toddler, and preschool programs designed to help children develop at their own pace.
West Vancouver Kids Club A trusted name in child care West Vancouver, this facility has earned praise for its dedicated team and its ability to provide a fun, stimulating environment for young learners.
Why Choose Child Care in West Vancouver and the North Shore?
Both West Vancouver and the North Shore offer some of the best child care options in the region. These areas are known for their commitment to education, family-friendly communities, and high-quality services. Whether you're a busy professional, a stay-at-home parent, or someone looking for part-time care, you’ll find plenty of options that meet your needs.
Additionally, these regions offer beautiful, safe surroundings that contribute to a peaceful environment for your child. The proximity to parks, recreational facilities, and nature also ensures that kids get plenty of opportunities for outdoor play and exploration, which is essential for their physical development.
Conclusion
Choosing the right child care West Vancouver is an important decision for every parent. With a variety of options available in both areas, you can find a facility that meets your child's needs and your family’s schedule. Whether you're looking for infant care, toddler programs, or a preschool environment, these regions offer many reputable centers. Always look for a child care provider that offers safe, nurturing, and enriching experiences for your little one. Also Via Rail up here in Canada should run more trains west of Ontario, and said trains should run more than like twice a week.
Having two transcontinental routes again would be amazing, bringing back the Super Continental for the northern route, and rerouting the Canadian back into CP trackage, finally connecting cities like Calgary and Regina, as well as tourist destinations like Banff and Lake Louise to passenger rail for the first time since 1990.
More interprovincial routes west of the corridor would be amazing as well. If the track could be repaired, the Malahat could resume service after 13 years of being indefinitely suspended, and Vancouver Island could have passenger rail again. The return of passenger rail between Calgary and Edmonton would allow for one of the more populated corridors in the country to be served by passenger rail, and would also connect the Canadian to the Super Continental at approximately the midpoint of the two routes after their split at Winnipeg, allowing for journeys like Red Deer to Jasper or Edmonton to Banff.
(Calgary to Edmonton would also be amazing for me personally, allowing me to travel between my university and home by rail, as opposed to my current options of FlixBus and the Canadian luxury bus operator Red Arrow)
All of this of course assumes that CPKC is willing to let Via run passenger trains on their trackage, and that the government is willing to spend money on rail. Although surprisingly the UCP government here in Alberta apparently wants passenger rail? Not what I’d expect but hey I guess Danielle Smith’s government is at least doing one good thing?
Okay Okay, hear me out, I know this sounds crazy but listen to me, this will be good,
What if,
We ran more than one train a day on Long Distance Routes

Departed anchorage today. We had taxied over to the museum and it was such a kick to park the plane in the museum parking lot. I felt special until a twin taxied beside me! He took up a lot of parking spaces! Museum was nice The part on the war on the Aleutian Islands was pretty somber. What a cold muddy slog. The early snow skis looked suspiciously like two by six lumber. My last seaplane training flight had been postponed so I checked weather and chose to fly down the coastal route rather than stay and hope for another flight. I filled ifr and called anchorage clearance. He both gave me my ifr clearance but also explained how to taxi across a couple of roads and back onto the airport. We taxied out behind a 747 cargo and had plenary of time to run up and configure while waiting the three minute “heavy wake turbulence “ issue. Departed and climbed above the mountains and into the clouds. Not really shocking but heavy precipitation with ice and snow with occasional hole to look down and see really massive mountains under us. We requested and after clearing the mountains got a lower altitude which reduced the ice. We had a long flight solid ifr in and out of heavy rain. We finally got to yakutat and shot the approach to minimums before we saw the runway. The airport is an abandoned World War Two base with hangers old radar station and a tired looking restaurant and lodge. While fueling the fuel guy who gave us home made cookies told us we could get a room in the lodge for the night. We ate spaghetti dinner while watching the rain come down. One of the fishing guides drove us around for a tour which was neat. They have cannons still mounted by the beach and swamps and streams etc. it seems the spot makes a living with tourist fishing guides. Our cabin was simple but warm. The local water is all contaminated from the military. The next morning we had breakfast in the lodge and filled ifr. Before we left we learned there was a historic dc3 in the hanger so we checked it out. It was in great shape in cargo configuration. This is likely about the most left seat time I can afford in a dc3! We departed for the two hour flight south to Sitka. Same deal. Low ifr with ice above. When we got to Sitka we were number three A medivac flight had gone missed but then been able to circle and land north so we asked for the same approach Sam flew the approach which was hard as he had to lose two k in a hold and then shoot the approach to 520 feet all while the synthetic vision warned us about a volcano to the west and a 3500foot mountain just on the other side of the airport which were were aiming at as the approach was not aligned with a runway but perpendicular to the runway! We broke at 520 feet with runway in our face, the mountain range literally on the other side of the runway and clouds at the north end of runway. I banked ninety degrees south flipped a 180, dropped the gear, flaps speed brakes and we landed. Fbo was super nice and loaned us a crew car and sent us to town to decompress. Turns out this is a cruise ship town so fifty souvenir shops and one church. We walked through a spruce forest with totem poles and eagles and streams, ate Russian dumplings (so good!) and departed ifr for ketchekan. This was only an hour flight and while we avoided icing it was ifr all the way with temps at 1c. I flew the ils but this time we were number one with three turbo props and jets following us! I was super proud and flew the ils at 180 knots. We broke out easily and landed. This airport was both busy and chaotic. We went up into the control tower to get an in person weather brief from grace. Filed with grace. Walked down and got in the airplane and called on the radio and picked up our ifr clearance from grace! Departure was beautiful. Grace turned us over to Vancouver center and we started or three and half hour flight to Bellingham Washington. The scenery is show stopping with fiords and near vertical mountains and straights and lakes and nary a human. Pretty special. We got down to Cambell river when the weather dropped
