When organizing a special event, transportation frequently plays a crucial role.Whether it's a wedding, corporate event, prom, or a night out, a limousine can add a touch of luxury and sophistication. In Vancouver, limo rental services are plentiful, but finding the right one can be daunting. In this blog post, we'll guide you through choosing the perfect Vancouver limo rental service for your event, with a special spotlight on Black Luxury Limousines, a premier provider in the area.
Tumblr media
Why Choose a Vancouver Limo Rental?
Luxury and Comfort
One of the main reasons to opt for a Vancouver limo rental is the unparalleled luxury and comfort it offers. Limousines are designed to provide a smooth, relaxing ride, complete with plush seating, ambient lighting, and high-end amenities. Whether you're looking to make a grand entrance at a wedding or ensure your corporate guests travel in style, a limo can elevate the experience.
Professional Chauffeurs
When you rent a limousine, you also get the benefit of a professional chauffeur. These drivers are trained to provide exceptional service, ensuring that you arrive at your destination safely and on time. In a bustling city like Vancouver, having a knowledgeable chauffeur can make a significant difference in navigating traffic and finding the best routes.
Convenience and Safety
A Vancouver limo rental offers convenience and safety that other forms of transportation might not. You don't have to worry about parking, coordinating multiple vehicles, or the designated driver dilemma. Limos also come equipped with advanced safety features, and the drivers are well-versed in handling various road conditions.
How to Choose the Right Vancouver Limo Rental Service
Assess Your Needs
The first step in choosing a Vancouver limo rental service is to assess your needs. Consider the type of event, the number of passengers, and any specific amenities you might require. For example, a wedding might call for a classic stretch limousine, while a corporate event might be better served by a sleek, modern sedan.
Research and Reviews
Do your homework by researching different limo services in Vancouver. Check for feedback and testimonials from previous clients to gauge the company's reputation.

Fleet and Amenities
A good limo rental service will have a diverse fleet of vehicles to choose from. Make sure the company you select has the type of limousine that suits your event. Black Luxury Limousines offers a range of options, from classic stretch limos to luxury SUVs and party buses. Additionally, inquire about the amenities each vehicle offers, such as entertainment systems, minibars, and climate control.
Pricing and Packages
Pricing is an important factor to consider when choosing a Vancouver limo rental. Obtain detailed quotes from various companies and compare their prices. Some companies, like Black Luxury Limousines, offer package deals for events, which can be more cost-effective. Ensure there are no hidden fees and that the quote includes everything you need.
Inspect the Vehicle
If possible, arrange to inspect the limousine before making a reservation. This enables you to inspect the vehicle's condition and confirm that it aligns with your expectations.
Reputable companies like Black Luxury Limousines are more than willing to accommodate such requests.
Check for Licensing and Insurance
Make sure the limo rental company is properly licensed and insured. This is essential for ensuring your safety and security. A legitimate Vancouver limo rental service will have no issue providing proof of their credentials.

Hughes Your Daddy? - Jack Hughes
Tumblr media
hahahaha finally
enjoy
request
If I get 10+ comments/asks ill make a part 2
Yes, that's me bribing you, I want more interactions
w.c: 3,007 (credit to gif maker) (don’t steal my work)
Pt.2
The last few weeks of college are the worst weeks of a student's life. There’s nothing but studying, finals, and pure hell. Yet, when Ellen Hughes calls and tells you to get on a flight to Vancouver to be present at the Hughes Bowl, you fucking get on a flight to Vancouver.
The flight itself is terrific; you study a bit of your flashcards, drink some hot cocoa, and even get in a solid half-hour nap. You honestly feel a little sad when the intercoms go off, and they announce your descent into Canada.
The sadness washes away quickly when you clear the clouds and realize how excited you are. This trip, tomorrow’s game, is a very, very special event. Each Hughes brother will be playing on the ice tomorrow night, and you’ll be sitting, as requested, in the Hughes box overlooking it all.
As soon as the 737 touches down, you’re quick to switch your phone off airplane mode. You appreciated the few hours of bliss without endless notifications, but life has to go on. As soon as the iPhone gets service, a flood of messages rolls through. One from Ellen, to which you respond. Two from Quinn, which you answer. And 36 messages from Jack, which you ignore.
You should respond, and you will, but first, you have to get off the plane and find your favorite chauffeur.
Without further delay, you exit the plane, grabbing your carry-on and swinging your backpack over your shoulders. You smile at the few flight attendants on the way out and throw an extra thank you to the woman who gave you some extra cookies when she saw your flashcards.
The Vancouver airport is bustling, and you can’t help but feel the positive vibes radiating from the space. The entire airport is decorated for Christmas, and you’re reminded why it’s ranked one of the best airports in North America.
You make your way to the baggage claim, checking your phone to ensure you’re heading toward the right spot. You are, and while you’re walking, you pass all the cute little shops. You see a couple of little knickknacks, and you make a mental note to pick up something on your flight back. Now, however, you must focus.
The baggage claim area is pretty full, and you’re dodging people left and right. You’re unsure in the sea of people where Quinn might be hiding until you hear your name shouted from somewhere to your left. You turn your body, and there he is, waving a bit and standing with a small smile.
“Oh my god, is that Quinn Hughes?” You say in mock shock as you get within his earshot. “The newest captain of the Canucks and Vancouver's most precious gem?”
He rolls his eyes back as far as he can when you approach, but nonetheless, he pulls you in for a hug.
“Please stop.” He groans out as your part and takes your carry-on from you.
“Never.” You smile as he leads you out of the airport.
It takes mere minutes to get to the car, and you both catch up about whatever. It’s been months since you’ve seen Quinn, and whenever you’re with him, you’re reminded why he might be your favorite besides Ellen and Jim, of course.
As soon as you are settled into the passenger of Quinn’s car, he reaches back behind him and pulls out a small gift bag.
“Here, before I forget.”
You give him a questioning look, and he just gives you a slight smirk.
“Just open it. It’s more of a gift to everyone else.”
You squint your eyes a bit suspiciously but pull the tissue paper from the bag. As soon as you do, you see the familiar blue and white colors, and a laugh burst from your lips.
“Oh my god.” You shriek out, laughing, pulling the Canucks jersey from the bag.
You both immediately start laughing, and you can hardly contain yourself.
“Of course, you don’t have to wear it for the game.” Quinn says. “but he’s gonna flip if he sees you wearing it when they get here.”
You scan the Jersey and agree with the boy next to you. Your boyfriend is very possessive when it comes to jerseys, and he hates everything that isn’t red, black, or white and doesn’t have Hughes 86 plastered on the back.
“Oh, this is gold, Quinn.” You say, tucking the jersey back in as Quinn moves the car out of the lot.
“Ma and I thought so, too. She said it might humble him for the night.”
Speaking of humbling your boyfriend, you reach for your phone and go to text him back. You scan the many messages and roll your eyes at a few. Most of them are him just wanting attention, but the last one catches your eye.
we’re 2 hours behind ur flight. No fun or smiling before I get there
You read the text allowed to Quinn, who rolls his eyes at the statement, and you’re quick to shoot a response back, telling Jack that it’s too late and you’re having the best time ever.
————————-
As soon as you step through Quinn’s front door, you hear a happy yell, and Ellen is pulling you in for a long-awaited hug. You practically melt as she squishes you, and the happiest of laughs exits her.
“Oh, my sweet girl, I’m so happy this worked out.” She says to you, pulling back just enough to look at your smiling face.
You look behind her as Jim is standing nearby, waiting his turn. You give Ellen one less squeeze and then turn to the original Hughes and give him a big hug.
“Hey, kiddo,” He says. “Glad you’re here.”
As soon as you say your hellos, you move to get your stuff settled into your room. As quickly as you can, you throw your stuff down and pull on the New Jersey, making your way back out to the kitchen.
As soon as you enter, Jim laughs, and Ellen raises her hands to her mouth.
“Oh, Jack is gonna hate it.” She turns to Quinn and laughs, using him to steady her.
“Oh, we know.” You say, high-fiving Quinn as you grab a cup of some water.
As soon as you get your water, you all settle into the living room, and questions are flying left and right. You talk about school, work, and whatever else comes to mind about the time you’ve spent away from them. They hang onto every word, and you can’t help but smile. You’ve always been close to Jack's family, but when the one-year mark passed, it’s like they fully accepted you as one of them. Now, almost two years in, Ellen and Jim treat you like the daughter they never had, and they tell you often how much more they like you than any of their sons. You always laugh, but you know deep down that you are special to them. And that fact alone makes you consider yourself one of the luckiest girls.
“They just landed,” Quinn announces. “Almost showtime.”
Ellen winks at you from her space on the couch, and you settle deeper into the comfortable space, counting down the seconds until your boyfriend walks through the door.
—————————-
About half an hour later, you hear loud commotion as the door swings open and Jack and Luke enter the building. It takes less than three seconds for Jack to yell.
“Where is she?”
You laugh at him and yell back from the living room. “I’m in here.”
In mere seconds, Jack is in the room, making a beeline toward you. It’s the first time you’ve seen him in a month, and you won’t lie; he looks pretty good.
You make your move and step off the couch, going to hug him, but he halts in his place a few feet away, giving you a once-over.
“Get that shit off you.”
As soon as that leaves his mouth, everyone busts out laughing, and Jack gives you a less-than-impressed look. You feel a bit bad, so you give him a small smile and lift the jersey off your frame, revealing a Devils t-shirt underneath.
As soon as you throw the jersey away, he takes two long strides and engulfs you in a hug. You thought that nothing could beat Ellen’s hug, but Jack's grip nearly breaks your back.
You pull away after a second and pry him off of you. You love him more than anything, but you’re not about to show massive amounts of PDA in front of his parents, who are sitting a few feet away.
He gets this because he lets you go and gives his parents and brother a quick greeting, then leads you away from the living room. Everyone allows it to happen, and you find yourself in the privacy of the bedroom.
“You’re funny, but you better have my jersey for tomorrow night.”
You let out a small laugh and cross the room again, linking your hand behind his head and pulling him closer to you. His hands find home on your waist, and his fingertips dip under your shirt a bit, gently squeezing.
“I promise, J,” you grin. “I’ll do my best to show support to the losing team.”
He releases a soft gasp and gives you a slight look of betrayal.
“Losing team?”
Your grin goes even wider. “Check that stats, bud. You’re in a bit of a losing streak.”
He narrows his eyes a bit, and with one quick motion, he grabs your frame and tosses you on the bed. He enters attack mode, lays his entire weight on you, and begins grabbing at your sides. You, of course, go into defense mode and fight to push him off. You fight for power for a minute before you pull your defining move. He gets close, too close, and you give him your best doe eyes. The second he catches your stare, he folds, and he puts himself at your mercy.
For the first time in a hot minute, you pull him to meet you; the second his lips are on you, you implode. It’s been too long, and there is nothing more comforting and familiar than the boy lying nearly on top of you. You kiss him for a minute, your lips molding perfectly together before you pull away, gently patting his face.
“I think your family would like to see you.”
You push him away again as he rolls his eyes.
“I see them enough.”
He goes back to try to kiss you, but you push him away, putting a finger to his lips and shaking your head.
“Come on.”
He lets out an annoyed huff and removes himself from the bed, pulling you up along with him. You make your way back to the family room and laugh yourself into the family events.
Soon, you’re all playing board games, and you find out very quickly reminded about how sore of a loser your boyfriend is. You play board games cards, and when it gets late enough in the night, you all make your way to the living room for a movie.
You watch something light-hearted, and you can’t help but feel bliss as you’re tucked into Jack's side, surrounded by the entirety of the Hughes family. It’s a nice moment, and it’s the times like this that have you thankful you’ve stuck with the boy at your side.
——————
Before the sun rises, Jack's alarm blares next to you, and you can only groan at the noise. Alarms are truly nothing but an escape from bliss, and you wish you could stay forever in this little bubble. You’re warm comfy, and you don’t mind the boy you’re cuddled next to.
But alas, he is a slave to hockey, and he presses a quick kiss to your lips and swings himself out of bed. You follow a few minutes later, moving at a sloth pace. Instead of getting fully ready, you make your way downstairs to where the smell of bacon is wafting through the house. You’re almost giddy as you see Ellen and Quinn making breakfast, and you get even happier when Ellen places a steaming mug of coffee in front of you.
“You’re an angel, thank you.”
She gives you a big smile and pours another cup for herself. As soon as you catch the time, you offer to take Quinn’s place with the cooking, to which he gladly accepts and runs off to shower and get ready for the big game.
As soon as all the Hughes boys are out of earshot, you get down to business.
“I’ll raise to fifty on the Devs.”
Jim scoffs at your bet. “I love ‘em, but I disagree. Offense has been a bit sloppy. I’ll raise to a hundred on the Nucks.”
You quirk your eyebrow, then turn to the Queen, who seems to be pondering.
“I’m sorry (Y/N), but I think I’m gonna say Nucks too.”
You let out a soft groan but hold your ground.
“Alright. Final bet is a hundred. Winner takes all.
You all shake hands, sealing the deal.
As if you weren’t up to gambling, you act as naturally as possible as the three boys enter the kitchen. Each one is clad in a suit, and it warms your heart to see them all together. They look adorable, and you can’t help but laugh when Ellen demands a picture. They oblige, but like every other photo they take, it slightly looks like they’re being held at gunpoint. But you win some, you lose some.
Eventually, you’re all fed, happy, and once another alarm goes off, you know it’s time. You say your goodbyes to the boys, wishing them the best of luck. You hug Quinn, do your secret handshake with Luke, and press a quick kiss to Jack's lips.
Once you finish, they say their goodbyes to their parents and make their way toward the door, but they don’t get far before Jack pulls you toward him one last time.
“You ready to watch me destroy Quinn?” He teases.
You roll your eyes, pushing him away with a laugh. Nonetheless, you give him one last peck, swat his ass, and yell one final encouragement as he heads out the door.
“Don’t embarrass me!”
He flips you the bird as he gets into Quinn’s vehicle, and you smile and give him one back as you head back into the house.
You sit back down to finish talking with the parents l, and time ticks by faster than you’d like. Soon enough, it’s time to get ready, and you throw on your devil's jersey. You say a little prayer and hope they all do good. Things like this don’t happen often, and you hope it’s simply a good game.
———————
You smiled as wide as you could as the three Hughes brothers posed for a couple of pictures. You could see the distaste on all their faces, but they did it anyway.
Once they do the appropriate media, the game begins, and you’re sitting on the edge of your seat. It’s a good game, no, a great game. Soon, the first period is almost over, but not before your boyfriend has to remind everyone who he is, and he scores a goal.
It’s known that the Hughes parents don’t show much emotion at the games, and even more so when it’s their sons playing on opposite teams. So you control yourself, but you don’t miss when Ellen squeezes your hand.
The game continues, and it’s a nail-biter. Each minute you watch, you get more and more tense. Maybe it’s because you’re just nervous, or perhaps it’s the fact you have a hundred bucks on the line. But either way, you pray the clock ticks faster.
It doesn’t, but once Luke scores, you can’t help but start to think that this might be the end of a losing streak. You laugh on the inside because, of course, all it takes is a little brother rivalry to get the Devils back into motion.
———————
When the clock hits zero, and the Devils win, you practically die in your seat. You’re so thrilled for Jack and Luke, but a small part of you is a bit depressed for Quinn. But you know, if anyone can handle a loss like this, it’s the eldest Hughes, so you’re not too worried. Instead, you focus on your boyfriend, who, even from the box, looks the happiest he’s been in a while. He was given the title of the first star of the game, and you absolutely love it when he’s like this. You know he’s going to be in one of those unstoppable moods. You love it, but he can be a cocky little shit, and you know he’s going to be almost insufferable. You’ll take it, though, and embrace every part of it.
A few minutes later, the area starts clearing, and you’re all getting ready to leave the box, but you almost forget what is happening when Jim slides you a crisp hundred-dollar bill and winks at you.
“Jack really pulls out the stops when you’re at a game.”
You let a blush creep onto your face as you take the bill. You’d be lying if you said that you felt bad. This isn’t the first game you’ve bet on against Jim, and it certainly won’t be the last.
“Alright, you two gamblers, let’s go see the boys, shall we?”
Ellen leads the three of you down to where you’ll see the men of the hour. You feel the happiest you’ve felt in a while as you follow behind them, and when you get close enough, you can hear your boyfriend laugh from a short distance. Your heart skips the noise, and as soon as he spots you from across the room, he moves as fast as lightning to get to you.

Wednesday 12th July 2023
The last day of the trip. The flight was not until 20.55 so since there was absolutely no rush we planned a visit to the Contemporary Art Gallery just 4 minutes walk from our hotel. Now these kind of places demand a certain frame of mind on entering. It is not permitted to laugh, deride, criticise or sneer at any of the works which after all were made in all sincerity and providing the artist keeps up the medication there's absolutely no reason to believe in time they might not progess towards a normal life producing works of art that someone would be proud to have in their drum. We managed a straight face as we examined 2 pieces filling a darkened room which are said represent womanhood. The artist completed this complex subject with what appeared to be a collection of wire coat hangers. Usually these are best employed as substitute car aerials. The dilemma for the voyeur in such circumstances is whether to experience intellectual inferiority towards the artist or indeed intellectual superiority. Happily there is no answer to this. Well no-one was too surprised when we took our leave as soon as it seemed polite so to do. We legged it down to the quays to sit in the sunshine and eat our luncheon. Three cruise ships in today, one of them a Holland and Barrett.
We had left our luggage at the hotel under the guardianship of the porter by the door. When we entrusted it to his professional care he said that would be seven dollars. Oh yeah Martine said thinking he was messing about. There then began a succession of stares between the two to see who would blink first. Martine beginning to suspect he was serious almost blinked but said we had no cash. He was the first to crumble, saying he could have it put on our bill. Then he said, oh forget it. We did the same with the bus driver yesterday. He let us get away with just one fare for no particular reason. These Canadians are great.
With nothing else we particularly wanted to do in Vancouver, we made our way to the little train and subsequently to the airport just hoping that all would be well with the flight, Iceland volcano permitting and the interference of American Airlines with our British Airways service.
We then started the long and arduous process of flight and time zones that would swallow up hours and project us with velocity into tomorrow. Hopefully the SB is fully chilled.
ps. Someone must have anaesthetised me. I had an awful dream on the plane that I had spent a load of money on Ray Ban sunglasses in the duty-free. I woke up and found it was true!

Getting to Know Us -- FAQs
What is Silverstring Media?
We’re a critically-acclaimed indie game studio and narrative design consultancy based in Vancouver, Canada. With a team full of unique voices, we create hopeful, imperfect worlds, and fill digital spaces with love and cosmic awe. Check out our intro post or our other links in bio :)
How long has Silverstring been active?
The studio has had many lives. It was founded by writer and transmedia designer Lucas J.W. Johnson as a solo narrative design firm. In 2013 he leveled up by partnering with Claris Cyarron, consulting on a host of award winning games and creating a series of experimental and strange altgames, including critically-acclaimed cult classic Glitchhikers: First Drive.
In 2020 Silverstring started production on its first full length in-house game, Glitchhikers: The Spaces Between. The studio grew to a team of nine passionate people, with a diversity of backgrounds, skills, and experiences to help propel the studio to create new and exciting stories that excite our audience and challenge the status quo of what games and stories can be.
What kind of games do you make?
We make people-first, story-rich, indie games. We like to push the boundaries of interactive experiences to create games that are fresh, experimental, and representative of more diverse experiences. Original music is also a key component of our projects.
While we want to tell stories that reflect the complicated world we live in and have nuanced conversations with our players, we lean into cosmic awe, community, and hope.
Along with our full length projects, Glitchhikers: The Spaces Between and Flow Weaver VR, you can check out some of our earlier short experimental projects on Itch.io.
What is Glitchhikers: The Spaces Between?
Glitchhikers: The Spaces Between is about the thoughts that you have when your mind is free to wander, everyday journeys that dominate our time but not our attention, and the parts of our world and existence normally left unexamined. Take a late night highway drive, a quiet train car in the early hours, a walk through a moonlight park, or wait in a deserted airport. Leverage the transformative power of liminal spaces and conversations with strangers.
Part walking sim, part visual novel, this chill and relaxing experience wants you to take some time and space to introspect, connect, and interrogate your own wisdom. It encourages you to be in the moment as you explore several familiar modern rituals, listen to ambient music, and receive light guidance through meandering voiceovers and questions from curious Hikers.
Where can I get your music?
You can find the Glitchhikers Deluxe Soundtrack on your favourite streaming services storefronts here. For other Silverstring Projects, check out the bandcamp of our Lead Composer Devin Vibert (along with some of his amazing personal work).
Do you have a Discord?
For now we don’t have our own Discord Server, but you can hang out with us in the Glitchhikers channel of our publisher Fellow Traveller’s server. We plan on having our own server soon though, so watch this space.
Where else can I follow you?
We plan on having Tumblr be our most active platform as we slowly divest from Twitter. You can follow us on Twitch for weekly streams with our team too. Check out our other platforms here: https://linktr.ee/slvrstrng
Can I join your team?
We aren’t hiring currently but when a position opens up we will post it here, on LinkedIn, and on our jobs page. You can also subscribe to our newsletter.

Day 16 - Vancouver to Home and Closing Thoughts
Once again I was very thankful to be waking up in a bed, especially as I felt a little bit bruised following the great bike crash of August 31st! I’d set an alarm for 08:30, but by the time we’d rolled out of bed, showered and packed our time for brunch was quite squeezed! Packing after travelling always takes longer than you think! Our heading was a place by the name of ‘The Templeton’ which does pancakes as that’s what G was feeling! As we made our way there I went rogue to a clothes shop for a t-shirt as I’d worn all mine and couldn’t be bothered with the faff of another wash and dry! Prior to leaving a quick Google suggested a place called Old Navy, which happened to be en route. Within 5 minutes of entering the shop, I found what I needed, tried it on, paid and left. Success! The same could not be said for G was who said the road she walked down was very sketchy and lined with homeless people, one of which ended up in the back of an ambulance. Only to reach our hopeful brunch spot and be informed that there was a queue and if she was in a rush, not to bother! And to top it off she stepped in a dog turd, well she said poo, but I’m going to assume (hope!) it was a dog turd!
Sometimes these things just aren’t meant to be, on the plus side our checkout wasn’t until 12pm, so we were able to walk back to the hotel and dig out the muffins we’d chucked in the bin! They were only a bit squished and were both in plastic bags. We also had some left over scone, beef jerky, pretzels and mini peanut butter cups, truly the breakfast of kings or ‘iffits’ as we called them at Middle Road. As in, if it’s in the fridge/freezer it’s getting eaten! After our random assortment of snacks for breakfast, we finished up our final packing. I managed to squeeze both our hiking boots into my bag, along with my thick Canadian fleece hoodie! I did however leave my old sleeping bag there with a note saying to do what they will with it. More disappointing than leaving the sleeping bag there was a couple tinnies of cider and the remainder of our box of wine, but some things just don’t travel well!
After checking out, an Uber arrived within minutes and whisked us off to Vancouver airport for our first flight to Calgary. Turns out it’s a pretty big airport, so after traipsing around and finally shifting our bags we went for a stroll around the gift shops to pick up a few bits before having our last poutine of the trip! I’m currently typing this up at 22:30 on our flight from Calgary to Heathrow having just had the vegetarian option (again!) for dinner. I fully intend on watching at least one movie before trying to get a bit of kip, if I don’t snore myself awake! G is next to me, scribbling away in her journal and occasionally cracking out the glue-stick or stickers.
So what can I say aboot Canada? We’ve only seen a small portion of it, but all that we saw was beautiful! You almost forget to take it in because you’re constantly surrounded by the beauty. From the evergreen forests, to the blue lakes and the looming mountains. We woke up to many a rising sun, where the mornings were sometimes soggy, but the air was always cool and crisp and fresh. We didn’t see as much wildlife as I thought we would and hoped to see, but it was pretty magical seeing some of the inhabitants here. The people were generally very friendly, helpful and the service was top notch, from the restaurants to the tour guides. You can tell they’re all proud of the place they live and want to maintain a happy and healthy country by looking after it properly.
As mentioned before, we did consider doing a trip of Canada on our own, but within a couple of days travelling it was clear we picked the right way to do it as it meant we could relax and enjoy the journey more. We didn’t need to worry about car rental, fuel, directions, parking spots and charges. Plus being on a commercial vehicle meant we could go to areas we wouldn’t be able to go had we done it ourselves. There was no research needed for camp sites and accommodation as it had all been sorted. The fairies kept topping up the food shop, so all we needed to worry about was snacks and drinks.
Joining the tour made our lives so much easier and a big part of that was having a fantastic tour guide in Megan, aka Chief. Who is only 22, but already so knowledgeable about her homeland and oozed with passion about the places we visited. She was our driver, field expert, chef and planner from the first thing in the morning until the last thing at night. I have no doubt she’ll go on to do great things, whatever path she chooses. Most incredibly after spending two weeks with us animals, she’s got a 24 hour turn around before taking another group back the other way!
Of course the tour wouldn’t have been half as good had it not been for a lovely group of people. With a split of 9 girls and 3 guys and a variety of ages there was a potential risk for imbalance, but this wasn’t the case at all. We all got on really well and when there were tears of joy we laughed together and when there were tears of tiredness, we picked each other up. Georgie introduced us to the ‘Werewolf’ game, which became a group favourite in the evenings, I revelled in my role as a witch in the first couple of games! We shared so much time together from meals, hikes, excursions, time in the minibus and I don’t think there ever was a cross word (other than some of the dodgy music!) Speaking of which, every day started with Madagascar’s “I like to move it, move it” and it will forever remind me of Canada. Along with such classics like ‘Sneaky Snake and WAP’, we covered a huge spectrum of music, especially country!
There were all sorts of random sayings that creep up on a trip like this, some from classic clips on YouTube, others just organically based on what was happening at the time and many, no matter how many times I heard them would make me chuckle:
“What a day!” - Truer words were never spoken by Harvey Price and we had so many good days!
“Can I pet that dog?!” - Usually when we saw a dog or something bear related.
“Womp Womp or Wompedy Womp Womp Womp” - When something went wrong, usually for someone else!
“Full as a little egg” - A Daisy expression that no one else had ever heard, but will most definitely be using going forward!
“Give-em” - Get involved, usually with passing food around!
“Harry, it's you that has to go on, I know it. Not me, not Hermione, YOU.” - And various other Harry Potter quotes because we’re nerds!
“Ruh-Row” - Scooby style, when there was potential for trouble, usually on the roads!
“The Dank!!” - I can hear Iain saying this when opening up the trailer as the damp tea towels were making it whiff a fair bit!
“Not another one!” - Unwanted duplication, usually traffic related!
“You little liar” - Another Daisy classic after Chief tried to do her dirty in the werewolf game. Georgie actually nails this impression and it’s deffo her fave!
And speaking of Georgie, this was our second ‘big travel’ trip together with the added ‘bonus’ of it being a camping trip and we survived! She was a fantastic travelling companion and even when getting a bit socially overwhelmed, came out the other side even stronger. She’s also been a wonderful editor, as I haven’t re-read any blog once typed up, so if you spot a typo, please email her on G.Salmon
She was very much the driving force behind us joining this G adventure, so a big thank you to her for sorting us out before and during the trip and making those moments we had away from the group so special. I’m already looking forward to the next one, aka the Honeymoon!
So in summary, if you’ve made it this far! Kudos! I can’t imagine anyone not enjoying a trip to Canada and would highly recommend visiting this amazing country. However, if you’re not a fan of camping, don’t camp as the weather is the one thing that might dampen your spirits if you can’t get things dry! Treat yourself to something that won’t blow away, but I can guarantee you’ll be blown away, by the wonderful country that is Canada. Signing off this blog; Out-and-aboot, over and out!

Judy Cameron still remembers getting the telegram that marked her first offer to fly planes for a major commercial carrier. Pacific Western Airlines had come calling, writing her a "congratulations" and inviting her to sit down with the interview board.
Forty-five years later, Cameron — who was Air Canada's first female pilot — has 23,000 hours of flying, a scholarship, and an Order of Canada membership to her name.
After a fulfilling 40-year career, Cameron recalls the struggles she faced in the early years and the efforts still needed to encourage more young women to enter aviation — especially the cockpit, which remains extremely male-dominated.
As of January, nearly eight percent of Air Canada's pilots were women--better than the U.S. average of 4.9 percent, according to a 2022 report from the Centre for Aviation, an Australia-based market research firm. The figure is also much higher than the tally just a few decades ago, when female flight crew stood out glaringly.
Cameron developed a taste for adrenalin early on, buying a motorcycle in Grade 12 and later riding her Honda Hog to the University of British Columbia most days, "even in the rain." After her first year studying arts, she found a summer job interviewing pilots at small airports for a Transport Canada survey. On her first day in 1973, one of them invited her to hop on board.
Cameron dropped out of UBC and applied to a two-year aviation program at Selkirk College. "I got on my motorcycle and drove eight hours to Castlegar
and when I got there the head of the aviation program had a motorbike. That's probably how I got into the course." Raised by a single mother in Vancouver, Cameron had grown up in a one-room apartment. Television and cars were luxuries they couldn't afford.
When Cameron flew her first passenger, in a two-seat, single-engine Cessna 150 training aircraft, it was her mom in the seat beside her. College wasn't an easy time. "It was hard, doing my training and being in a classroom full of guys. I was always the odd one out," she said. "It was so isolating."
Following graduation, Cameron found pilot work at a pulp and paper company in 1975, but the board of directors wouldn't let her fly. She wound up helping with dispatch and office management, occasionally managing to get a flight in when a subsidiary operated the plane. After switching to a job as a passenger agent at B.C.'s Airwest Airlines — with infrequent turns in the cockpit — Cameron was eventually hired by a small regional service in Slave Lake, Alta., where she flew a Douglas DC-3 airliner — a big break, due to the larger size of the plane.
Four months later, the company went bankrupt — the paycheques bounced — and executives at the carrier that took over its routes weren't thrilled about her presence. "The chief pilot there basically didn't want to hire me. But he said, 'At least the big airlines won't hire you.'"
The airline stationed her in Inuvik, N.W.T., and proceeded to lay her off. She was later rehired as a dispatcher and allowed to fly periodically.
Overall, though, she said the experience was positive and the pilots respectful, some of them serving as mentors. However, the company was no exception to the years-long failure of most airlines to provide uniforms for pregnant crew members, including Cameron in 1984. The shortcoming was a milder example of some of the gender inequalities that persisted at various carriers into the 1970s, including strict weight limits, age ceilings, and marriage bans for flight attendants.
Today, Air Canada aviators may be asked to submit a note from their doctor every two weeks confirming they are fit to fly, starting in the 20th week of pregnancy. Pilots are considered fit to fly until week 30, "in the case of a normal pregnancy," according to Transport Canada regulations. Many of Air Canada's 410 female pilots — out of 5,230 in total — see Cameron as an inspiration.
Since retiring in 2015, Cameron has barely slowed down. The Oakville, Ont., resident has taken a course on aerobatics — "loops and rolls and Cuban eights" — in Florida. And she's actively involved in the Air Canada scholarship program in her name. Launched in 2019 and backed partly by flight training company CAE, the fund helped support 13 young women training to become pilots or aircraft maintenance engineers last year, granting them $5,000 apiece. Education in the sector is notoriously expensive.
Last year, 12 percent of new pilot licenses issued in Canada went to women, according to the Institute for Women in Aviation Worldwide. Cameron also serves as a director of the Northern Lights Aero Foundation, which offers mentorship and highlights women's achievements in aviation.

Car, Ferry or Plane?
Considering a visit to Victoria, BC and curious about your travel options?
I've got some insights for you!
This isn't a complete guide, but it highlights the primary methods to reach this stunning island.
Your main options include:
Taking a ferry, with options for both vehicle and foot passengers
Flying in, either to YYJ airport or directly into Victoria's harbor via seaplane
Opting for a helicopter ride, offering a speedy and luxurious journey
Delving into ferry travel:
Primarily, there are three ferry services, with BC Ferries being the most popular. BC Ferries caters to both vehicle and foot passengers. One point to note is the distance of the ferry terminals from major cities. The Victoria terminal for BC Ferries is situated in Swartz Bay, about 30km north of Victoria, requiring a 35-45 minute drive. For those without a vehicle, there are transportation options available from the terminal. On the mainland, the terminal is located in Tsawwassen, roughly 35km south of downtown Vancouver, translating to a 40-60 minute drive. This terminal is also conveniently close to the US border. An alternative route from the North side of Vancouver involves taking a ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo, followed by a 1.5-hour drive to Victoria. Booking in advance is recommended for those bringing a car to ensure a spot on your desired sailing.
The Clipper ferry service is ideal for travelers from Seattle, offering a direct route to Victoria Harbor for foot passengers only. Though pricier than BC Ferries, it provides a seamless journey from downtown Seattle.
The Blackball ferry line's MV Coho offers another option for both cars and passengers, departing from Port Townsend in the US and arriving directly in Victoria Harbor. Despite the discontinuation of the Victoria to Anacortes Island service, there's hope for its future return.
Regarding air travel to Victoria:
For those coming from afar, flying is a common choice. The main airport is Victoria International Airport (YYJ), located near the ferry terminal on the Saanich Peninsula, about a 30-minute drive from the city. It offers a range of car rental services and shuttle options to the city center. Seaplane services, landing directly in Victoria Harbor, offer a scenic and convenient alternative, with providers like Harbor Air connecting to nearby locations including Vancouver Harbor.
For a swift and exhilarating experience, Helijet provides helicopter flights from Vancouver directly to downtown Victoria or Nanaimo, with the journey to Victoria taking just 35 minutes.
To assist further, here are some useful links:
BC Ferries ticket booking for vehicles and passengers
Transportation from downtown Victoria to the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal
Clipper Ferry reservations
BC Connector bus service from Vancouver to Victoria, including ferry travel
Harbor Air seaplane services to and from Victoria Harbor
Book a ticket for you and your car on BC Ferries.
Bus from downtown Victoria to Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal
Clipper Ferry bookings
BC Connector, bus from Vancouver to Victoria including Ferry
Harbour Air, Sea Plane in and out of Victoria Harbour
Consider contacting Ainsley Gower a local Victoria Realtor for all your real estate needs.

Costa Rica for Newbies
After arriving at YVR to discover that our ongoing flight from Mexico City was “delayed” for 2.5 days, and the staff at YVR didn’t have access to options, we arrived in Mexico City around 4am local time, (2am Vancouver time), and immediately made a beeline for the AeroMexico customer service desk. You may be shocked to read that it wasn’t busy at that time of the night. When I booked the flights, I saw that we could go in Business Class for $200CDN more, (I’ve never seen a price that close to a domestic price before), so I booked them. In hindsight, this turned out to be a great decision. Not only were we a priority for rebooking, we also had use of the AeroMexico lounge. The wonderful representative found us seats on the next flight out, (albeit it 12 hours after our original flight, and in an exit row, not Business class, for which she apologized profusely), and off we went for a record 14.5 hours of lounge time. We napped, ate, and drank water, lattes, and even a glass of wine. Arriving into San Jose, Costa Rica around midnight, we weren’t out of the airport until closer to 1am. Our car rental representative was still waiting there for us. We had booked a last minute inexpensive hotel near the airport and had said we would be arriving around 1am, (as this was a small family run hotel we worried about a late arrival). We pulled into the gated parking at 1:30am and crashed hard into our bed. Awakening to this view though, made it all okay:
Tumblr media
The next morning we set out for our treehouse accommodation in Cocles, (a few kms south of Puerto Viejo). I had read that it would take just under 4 hours, but almost 6 hours later, we arrived. Our limited experience of roads in Costa Rica, (the ‘highway’ over the mountains to the Caribbean coast and subsequent side roads), have thus far confirmed the opinion that the roads here are terrible. The highway is under construction, moving from 2 to 4 lane constantly, but with very little notice. One moment you’re driving on a 4 lane divided highway, the next, the two lanes over the median are empty, and there are large trucks coming toward you in your ‘fast lane’. In an interesting twist, there are often 2 lanes going down the hills, and one going up the hill?? We quickly understood why our AirBnB host said not to make the drive at night. The ‘road’ to our AirBnb is a 2 km gravel road
with huge rocks and not gravel. It’s quite a workout for the Suzuki Vitara, (probably the most common vehicle we’ve seen here).
Car rentals here are also interesting, as most places insist that you take out the full insurance, regardless of the fact that your credit card company might provide secondary insurance. I called our credit card company and they said to take the minimum required and they would cover the rest. They sent us something to print and take with us specifically stating we were covered in Costa Rica. So, we booked with the “full insurance” package. When we picked up the car, they then informed us that the “full insurance” had an $1800USD deductible if the accident was our fault, and get this
a 20% deductible on the total damage if the accident WAS NOT our fault. WTH?? We’ve declined this extra insurance, on top of our “full insurance”, and hope that if we are actually involved in an accident, our credit car will honour its word. Because of these dire warnings, we took a video of our car at pick up, (as well as some photos
remember it was after 1:00am and we had had very little sleep in the past 2 nights). Two days into our rental, we discovered that we are missing a lug nut from the front and back tire on the passenger side. We looked back at our pick up video and yes
they rented us a car already missing two lug nuts.
I tilted this post “Costa Rica for Newbies” because, although we are fairly seasoned travellers, there’s always something new to learn when you go somewhere new. I’m not writing this to complain, just to maybe help other newbies to Costa Rica!
