Spirit Animal is racist.
Patronus was invented by a transphobe.
I think it’s time we all suck it up and say what we mean: fursona.

Not to get emo on main but you ever think about how in Mulan the troop sang about their dreams of finding “a girl worth fighting for”, and they think their girl worth fighting for is one of romance, but the song abruptly comes to a halt when they find a different girl worth fighting for.
Tumblr media
A little girl that had been killed at the hands of the Huns. A child too weak, too small to have any chance of withstanding the murderous invaders. That is their girl worth fighting for.
It’s also worth noting that ‘A Girl Worth Fighting For’ is the last song in the movie. Up until here, it’s a fun movie, and the imminent invasion feels like it’s just there to keep the plot moving, and to provide a little bit of drama to spice things up. None of the soldier’s are quite taking this seriously yet; sure, Mulan wanted to save her father from the draft, and on some level she was aware that he would die if he went to war, but beyond that she’s interested in not being caught, and not shaming her family. Her motives are good, but they’re entirely self centered. All the other soldiers are more or less in the same boat - they want to get tougher, they want to impress girls, they want to be cool soldiers. Shang’s easily the most serious of the bunch at first, and even then it’s just because training bad soldiers will reflect poorly on him, and important people are paying attention.
The abrupt ending of ‘A Girl Worth Fighting For’ is the wake up call. The soldiers and the audience get slapped in the face with the realization of what’s really at stake here. China is being invaded. Villages are burning, civilians are dying, and this isn’t going to stop until the country is conquered or the invaders are defeated. This is not a fun musical, this is a major crisis.
Mulan is such a good movie for so many reasons, but the abrupt tone shift is such a major reason why. It’s an excellent commentary on the reality of war, and it being a kids movie just meant they had to make their point without showing any actual gore, which I’d honestly say makes it that much more poignant.

I think it’d be really cute if Raz collected library cards like Pokemon cards.
just various library cards he’s gotten from the various small towns his family has visited. He keeps them in a little binder in his backpack. the interns start showing off little collections they have and he gets all excited and whips it out of his bag like “YOU WANNA SEE MY CARD COLLECTION? :D”

I keep drawing Raz and Lili six years later so I did the same for the Natividad sisters (Though I did fuck up their heights a little, let's pretend Norma had a growth spurt)
MAYBE one day I'll make uniforms for all of the interns

I love thinking about the psychonauts for a bit too long because it goes from “Some of these guys are a little fucked up” to “Oh, they’re ALL a lotta’ fucked up”

Psychonauts Drawtober day 13: Morris Martinez
Morris is probably paired with Milla as a mentor because of his aptitude for levitation but it also turns out they share an appreciation for music. Morris wants to be a DJ and launches a pirate radio station at the Motherlobe to spin his sick tunes. Or tune. He only has one rn. Would you like to join his shock jock team? He'll pay you in exposure.

I’ve been thinking about why Bob’s level hit so many people so much harder than any other level in PN2, and why his character is so easy to latch onto, and I honestly think it boils down to Bob being incredibly sad, and his problems being painfully real.
When we first meet Bob he seems like a typical grumpy old man, but before his first cutscene is even over, we see that he is, in his own words, broken. Sure, he’s angry at first, but that anger fades several times throughout that (relatively short!) cutscene, and we can clearly see that he’s really just… sad, and lonely. As soon as the vine puts the psycho-portal on him, he drops the act. He doesn’t even have the energy to be mad for more than a few minutes.
His mental world isn’t a wacky cooking show or a bizarre casino/hospital or a city of germs inside a shoe. It’s just… an empty island. Surrounded by more islands that he can’t reach, three of which hold the memories of loss and grief that he’s been repressing for two decades. That’s not fun. It’s not silly. It’s just viscerally sad, in a way that a lot of the audience can probably relate to. His problems aren’t caused by sentient bees or ten-year-old-induced gambling obsessions, they’re caused by Bob’s life falling apart around him due to events that were completely out of his control. He has years of untreated trauma weighing him down, and he turned to alcohol to cope. That’s real, and it fucking hurts.
And there isn’t anything to distract you from that when you’re in his mind. There’s no funny puppet gimmick to laugh at or quirky background characters that say silly lines. The only NPCs in the level are there to echo Bob’s own self-hate. You’re in a barren wasteland made up of memories that are undeniably painful, even when the events that they represent are happy. The beautiful wedding stage is cut off by a gruesome reminder that the man Bob married is dead, followed immediately by Bob recounting the words that represented all his hope for the future with his husband. Bob’s memory of the happiest day of his life can’t ever have a happy ending.
And this is all wrapped in the dramatic irony of the fact that we know Helmut is alive, and that all this heartbreak could have been avoided. None of it had to happen, but it did, and there’s no way to change that. Robert Zanotto is a broken man, and even when he starts to heal post-game, he’ll never get unbroken.
Basically, the devs said “Would you like to see the world’s saddest man?” and we said “Boy, would I!” and then got sad ourselves because hey wait this is way too real. We want him to be happy and safe and loved, and I think that really speaks to the theme of empathy that is so present in PN2.

Hello to all of you Dion enjoyers once again! Today I bring you a piece of some smaller lore stuff.
ok, so, the apology line was a part of a bigger gameplay mechanic that they cut, and so was cut with it sadly. this one is from the same mechanic, but disregard how pissed Dion is in this one, the important thing we learn from here is that
DION PLAYS THE OBOE

My favorite Cassie headcanon:
With the Psychonauts’ existence, psychics have become more accepted in the USA (or the Psychonauts equivalent) as a whole and in many parts of it. Cassie reconnects with her roots when she meets a nice couple at the local market during autumn. They’re selling mooncakes, their own family recipe, and gush about their children of which one is a psychic. Across several weeks, they become friends, share food and their favorite stories and poems, talk in English and Mandarin, etc.
The couple invites Cassie to dinner and she meets the rest of the family. The children love her. Especially the youngest one does, because it’s the first time she’s met another psychic AND because Cassie looks like her.
