If you had binges or didn't do well all this time, THIS will be our chance to glow up!

So this is an account that was actually made for personal use, but I thought, why shouldn't I share it with you?

Tomorrow YOU will stop binging!

'But how?' You may ask

I have several tips for you that used to help me back then where I was at my lowest. (I was in forced recovery. That's why I couldn't go any further)

Do not fast. I know fasting is a very popular thing people do, but most of the time, if you haven't eaten in days, it causes binging on whatever you see. I never fasted, and tbh, it was the best decision I've made.

LOTS of fruits! Fruits are a very good substitute for when u crave sweets. Tho, you need to eat them in moderation since some of them can be high in cals!

The personal calorie limit I set is 300 - 500 cals MAX.

Workout. I have a workout that used to help me slim down, and it wasn't that hard even tho I felt dizzy. The workout is linked at the end. Do it as often as you like.

DRINK WATER!!

Reworking some of the companions quests

The companions quests in Veilguard, the final ones, they all feel a bit same-y. They all have one villain they have to beat and they all have one final big decision. So this post is how I would change them.

By the way, this is not me saying the companions quests suck, this is how I personally would change things to make them better.

The quests that I wouldn't change much would be Harding, Emmrich and Davrin's.

Harding's quest could be better explained (because I'm still somewhat confused on the whole red harding thing) and also maybe don't frame the final decision as something of 'this will affect Harding's personality' (because that's how it came across to me) but actually focus on truly either letting go of the titan's rage or honoring them. Honoring them could harden Lace but its kind of an in Alistair being hardened way - personality wise stays mostly the same, but Lace is perhaps even more aggressive towards Solas and she connects more with dwarven culture. It could be a keeping or chaging the status quo decision.

Davrin's, I just think the final 'where the griffons go' choice is stupid. Idk, because we don't have epilogue slides at the end, we don't *actually* know what the consequences are. Besides, I think you can just slip the griffons in half and let on group in Arlathan and one in with the Wardens. Edit: Now that I've given it more thought, the griffons should always go to the Wardens but the choice is: will Davrin make it known about Isseya and everything or will he keep it under wraps. Like we know Davrin would probably say something but having the choice of him possibly keeping it under wraps, using the reason of 'this secret would break the order, you can't say it' could add conflict + this could Harden Davrin. Alos adds to how shady the GW can get.

Emmrich's quest is my favorite and I wouldn't change anything tbh.

So let me focus on others.

Bellara - I think you can keep the Anaris situation BUT the final, important choice should NOT be about the archive - it should be about Cyrian. I had a feeling that this whole quest would end with us deciding if Bellara should kill her brother or not. That seemed like the biggest conflict for her and that should have been the final choice: allow Cyrian to live and repent for his mistakes or let him die/kill him. Look I don't think he was that badly injured and considering Bellara has a pretty good healing ability, its feasible that she would be able to stabilize him.

And in that moment, Rook could be presented with the option of either helping Bellara heal Cyrian or encouraging her to kill he brother. Letting Cyrian live would allow for him and Bellara to mend their relationship, let Bellara be rid of her guilt and be in theme with the whole redemption thing.

Letting him die could be something that hardens Bellara. She's maybe not as chipper as before, but she is also free of the burden of her brother's death and his actions (I also think hardening should not equal taking away healing abilities (that should be reserved for only Neve and Lucanis in the minrathous v. treviso choice imo)).

Having an option like this would also allow for Rook to have a different type of personality: someone who maybe doesn't believe in redemption/second chances, or someone who's willing to kill anyone who seems like a threat.

Neve - I'll be honest, Neve's quest is the most confusing to me, as in, I'm not really sure what is happening most of the time. Aelia is just not a great villain, she's just a generic blood mage who has some history with Neve that's not really explained.

Neve's final choice is about either becoming an inspiration or a vigilante for Dock Town but uhm, I'm not sure that that really makes sense for her quest? See what I mean about this quest being all over the place.

I think what I would do is: Explore more of Aelia and Neve's relationship. Make them be friends, a long time ago, perhaps even partners in being detectives, but seeing how bad things were in Dock Town, Aelia turns to blood magic, so that she'll be powerful enough to actually protect the city, but now, its gotten to her head. In fact, I think you could almost make a comparison between her and Solas in this scenario - the original intentions were good but they have been twisted that now they are hurting the people they swore to protect.

I think the quest could even turn into just how far would Neve go to protect Dock Town. I think if we're in Tevinter, we need to explore more of the implications of blood magic and Neve could be a good way. At some point in the quest, there could come a moment where something bad happens and Neve contemplates that maybe Aelia was right and they should use blood magic.

I think having a choice here kinda sucks, but maybe that's cause I didn't have a choice cause I didn't save Minrathous. But also because I feel like being a protector and an inspiration can both happen. Also, not all companion quests need a final decision!

With Aelia's death, Neve can promise to find a way to help Dock Town without turning to such means, and also show that one does not need to turn to blood magic, serve as an example as someone who came from nothing and still protects Dock Town.

Idk, this quest is wild to me and I'm sorry Neve.

Taash - First thing, Taash's quest should not be about their heritage/background. It should be about the fucking fire. Also, the dragon king can stay but he needs a big reworking.

When we first meet Shataan, she reprimands Taash for using their fire so out in the open. I think we could go a bit further with that. Have Taash mention that they've always had to keep their fire under wraps and not explore this ability to its full extent because of their mother being afraid of what could happen.

The Dragon King can serve as an example - Taash grew up hearing a story from their mother about an adaari who was uncontrollable, who used their fire to hurt people and that is why Taash needs to keep it cool. Shataan was under the qun for most of their life, it also makes sense for her to be wary of this ability, and since she lacks the knowledge to help Taash, she'd prefer if they did not use the fire that much.

Also, have the dragon king have a different name. I mean, we all know about Qun and the whole name thing, so when Shatann tells the story, she uses the DK's name under the Qun, before he broke away.

Then, when the Dragon King confronts Taash, they realize that oh shit this is the guy from the story. Ultimatly, Taash's final decision is do they embrace the gift of this fire or do they stick with the idea of 'its dangerous and shouldn't be used.'

Repressing the fire would harden Taash, and once again, show a different type of Rook - someone afraid of what's different, or who's so cautious to the point of preferring Tassh not to use it. Also, I think it'd be better if the Dragon King killed Shataan with the fire, so that Rook can use that as leverage. The quest could also be used to symbolize the different between the fire that kills and the fire that creates, and of the past and the future/sticking to traditions and fears of the past (repress) or making a new way forward (embrace). Taash, as the youngest companion, really could be used as a way to showcase the difference between past, present and future.

Lucanis - I have made a whole ass post about Lucanis quest so I'll keep this short. Final choice should be wether or not Lucanis accepts to become First Talon. If he accepts, he is hardened and becomes more ruthless. If he doesn't, he is finally able to defy his grandmother and carve a life for himself, and not follow what someone wants for him.

Once again, the choice of encouraging him to become First Talon could show Rook also as a somewhat "power hungry" person: the framing could be that if Lucanis is FT, then he could provide an even bigger help to the team by moving more of the crows. It could show a Rook willing to sacrifice the personal freedom of their friends in favor of guaranting they'll have more power.

Used to write for Dragon Ball Z and Red Dead Redemption 2. Now I just write for Baldur's Gate 3.

5. do you respond to comments?

Yeah, I try to respond to most of them, although sometimes when it's just one word, I'm not sure what to say, haha.

6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Probably Midnight Rendezvous, and that one isn't even that angsty because I wrote a sequel to give Arthur x Reader a happy ending, haha.

7. what’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

The majority of my fics have a happy ending (wink wink nudge nudge). But seriously, which would I say has the absolute happiest? Hmmm... Probably The Light That You Shine, which is my only John Marston x Reader fic, strangely enough. I think I put the characters through some shit and they come out very happy at the end.

8. do you get hate on fics?

Not that I'm aware of?

9. do you write smut? if so, what kind?

Do I write smut? HAH. I write nothing BUT smut, my dear. Well, with a few exceptions. As for what kind of smut? Not sure how to answer that. I write between canon characters and between canon character & reader, and I've got some OC x OC stuff too. Or is the question more like what genre of smut? I've probably written most kinds (soft & gentle, hard & rough, and everything in between).

10. do you write crossovers? what’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Well. I could lie and say I don't. But unfortunately in high school I wrote a DBZ-Sailor Moon-YYH crossover, and I regret its existence.

11. have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of...

12. have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope! But if someone wanted to do it, they have my blessing!

13. have you ever co-written a fic before?

14. what’s your all-time favourite ship?

Hmmmm.... All-time, you say. I'd have to say... probably Vegeta x Bulma. Even after all this time.

15. what’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I have a OC x Arthur fic that I really liked making the story for, but it'll forever live as a few drabbles cobbled together. Oh Grace, you'll never get a full fic and I'm sorry.

16. what are your writing strengths?

I've been told that I know when to summarize plot points so that the story doesn't drag on for too long. Also I've been told that my smut writing is some of the best, for its clarity and hotness. I'll accept that compliment, haha!

17. what are your writing weaknesses?

Not descriptive enough at times. The most comments I get on my Google docs from my friends are "elaborate more on this point". Totally fair! And personally, I think I have the writer's equivalent of 'same face syndrome' that some artists have. Like my "reader" character tends to be pretty same-y through a lot of my Arthur x Reader fics...

18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

If a character is using another language, I try to make sure that there is a reason for it, that it isn't just for flair. For example, if I have a character blurt something out in another language suddenly, then it means they've been thrown off guard and are going back to their first language. Or if two characters are speaking another language together, then they're either hiding something from others, or they grew up that way and are falling back to old habits.

19. first fandom you wrote for?

Oof, I had to go back to some archived files to figure this out. Probably Yu Yu Hakusho, back in 1999, although I suspect I had some older fics in the Gundam Wing fandom, but I don't have any digital evidence of them, I think they were on a GW Mailing List from Yahoo, of all places.

Resampler/Wavtool Directory

Resamplers and wavtools are what make your voicebanks sing! Resamplers together with the wavtool take your samples and take them apart, pitch, edit, apply flags, etc. and then reassemble them to create the audio output for your voicebanks. They also are responsible for generating FRQ (or other types of frequency map) files so that they can quickly go through this process.

Resampler List

resampler- this is the default resampler that comes with UTAU

fresamp ver11 ver14 by Ameya- known for strengthening voices and reducing background noise. Can have a nasally quality on higher notes. (Mod heta note: I personally think fresamp11 produces higher quality renders than fresamp14)

world4utau (w4u) by Ameya - is very picky with voicebanks, reacts very strongly to background noise. Requires FFTW files to work. Comes with source code. w4u Zany ver. by Zany is an updated version. wn4u/worldend4UTAU by Zany ports a different version of WORLD0.2.0

phavoco by Ameya- Phase vocoder, adds a vocoder effect to renders. phaavoco is an updated version. There's also an archive of this resampler's download in case the UTAU site goes down put together by Mod heta.

Model4/M4 by Ameya- was a privately distributed through UTAU Days, an invitation only SNS. Beta resampler that was never publicly released due to instability.

doppltler by Ameya- Supports 16, 24, 32 bit .wav files, Supports mp3, OGG Vorbis and FLAC encoded voicebanks. OTO files should look like ".mp3.wav" in order to use them. The R flag reverses samples and can be used to create pseudo-CVVC. There's also an archive of this resampler's download in case the UTAU site goes down put together by Mod heta.

f2resamp by Ameya- A completely new resampler meant to be part of the fresamp collection. There's also an archive of this resampler's download in case the UTAU site goes down put together by Mod heta.

TIPS by ScientistB- usually works really well for softer voicebanks. Can make banks have a metallic quality and emphasize background noise more than other resamplers.

bkh01 by Zteer- With the right flags, you can get more realistic renders with softer voices but with stronger voices, it can create a lot of distortion, metallic and nasally qualities.

tn_fnds by Zteer- Uses looping samples to render files instead of stretching unlike most resamplers. Using the e flag will make it stretch. Similar to TIPS but doesn't seem to magnify noise as much. Requires FFTW files to work. tn_fndsX and tn_fnds_PB by Zany are variations of tn_fnds. young3 by Zany is a version of tn_fnds that uses Harvest.

EFB-GT by Custom.Maid- Works very well for soft voices and smoothing out noise while getting crispy consonants

EFB-PB by Custom.Maid- Likely works well for soft voice but requires EFB-GT to work (See below for why it be hard to use) (Mod heta note: I don't think I've ever been able to get this resampler to work in 12 years of using UTAU; you can get away with not downloading it.) Requires FFTW files to work.

EFB-GW by Custom.Maid- overseas users have had trouble getting this resampler to work. (Mod heta note: I don't recall being able to get this resampler to work in the 12 years I've used UTAU) Requires FFTW files to work.

moresampler by Kanru Hua- Based on libllsm. Flags can greatly change the voice such as breathiness, tension, growl, etc.

utaugrowl by _torifly- patches resamplers with growl capabilites and flags.

presamp by Delta- Automatically converts USTs between formats such as CVVC and VCV. You need to patch resamplers to use.

PyRwu by Delta- PyWorld based resampler.

What are flags

Flags are an editing feature that change the tone of the voice. Each resampler uses their own unique set of flags that you enter into the rendering options box in the project property or flag box in the note property. It should be noted that flags in the note property will override the flags in the project property. You can find out about all the different flags using the Flaglist by susrever. This document has the list of flags for most publicly available resamplers and what they do.

Speedwagon by Custom.Maid- quickly creates FRQ (or whatever other file types) for resamplers.

Resampler Patcher by nmasao- improves resampler speed and performance, and also allows you to use multiple resamplers in the same UST. Uses flags to switch between the different resamplers.

Oh. The waves. Really big waves.

The abuse the people running the Warhammer account on X have had to wade through is, frankly, horrific. Every post they make has been flooded with a combination of “Go woke go broke”, accounts (who probably never played Warhammer in the first place) proclaiming they are quitting the hobby, demands for “brothers of battle”, proclamations of 3d printing, accusations of GW only doing it because investors want a better ERG rating, claims that Warhammer is turning gay (I didn’t know that Man + Woman = Gay), and outright abuse.

It’s disgusting, makes me feel for the people who have the job of dealing with it, and makes me glad that the closest I get to dealing with social media on a professional basis is being tangentially associated with a product that archives posts for regulatory reasons.

On a related note, here’s an interesting video about rage bait.

Personally, I think it is overly kind to the rage baiters, but it is focused on YouTube videos rather than X.

Just what amount of waves did yesterday's news cause for the official account to jump in with a clarification?!

Lagi-lagi (again) gw nulis ini dalam rangka 1 (satu) tahun sejak gw berharap akan suatu hal. Ya, it’s called “ketenangan” jadi sebenernya tanggal 11 tahun lalu hari Sabtunya wkwk tp yaudalayea... Sesuai judulnya, di momen tersebut gw bener-bener menitikkan air mata

Jum’at sorenya, gw ngelihat ke atas sambil berharap “semoga, saat kembali ke rumah... saya bisa pulang, dengan tenang.” Harapan itu gw ucapkan berkali-kali... dan keesokan harinya (tl;dr) seperti hari=hari biasa, campur nano-asem-mixed banget (?) euyy. OK Let’s start!

Jadi, keknya gw tulis dulu ya tujuan gw nulis tulisan ini (ribet bgt bjirrr) yaa artinya itu lah wkwk. Bukan buat atensi keluar or apalah itu karena gw juga nyadar kalo gabakalan ada yg peduli juga........... yekhannn. Tapi, sebagai arsip (ya obvsly) dan... gw sadar kalau ini ternyata pelajaran... ya, gw belajar dengan nulis2 ini. Kalau orang biasanya belajar dari yg pahit2 eh gtw jugasik wkwk mff sotoi, ini gw juga belajar kalau ternyata, setiap hal yang ada di kehidupan bener-bener bisa diambil maknanya

Selain bermula dari gw nulis di tumblr ini, di mana memang ini arsip terkeren (mudah2an tumblr ga tutup) nanti mindahinnya repot euy, gw juga dulu sering banget nonton TV. Agak biasa ya... tapi emang kalau boleh jujur gw baru ngerasain nikmatnya dunia hiburan itu dr kelas 5 SDan. Sebelumnya, sempet nggak tahu mau ngapain jadi yaa main aja gitu ke rumah temen dll (musik DJ yiruma kiss the rain rmx)

Nahh dari nonton TV itulah gw ngerasa “ohh ini nih asupan hiburan gw” saking emg gabut juga kaliya wkwk ya gt deh. Pantesan gw juga jadi kacamataan giini :( tp gpp emang udah konsekwenzinya. Singkatnya, gw jadi tahu program TV dari 2008an-sekarang. Gak yang sampai seluruh program TV jugasikk, tapi gw paham perjalanannya kek tahun-ke-tahunnya yang laku itu apa, trennya, artis/host2 atau siapalah gt yang sering muncul di tipi gitu kurang lebih

Mungkin memang pas sekolah itu gw purely nonton aja as hiburan, bukan buat belajar wkwkk yakali ude sekola berjam2 ngapain nonton belajar lagi, pada saat itu. EH maksutnya abis sekolah yee duH gpentink mff. Jadi yang ditonton yaa acara2 musik aja kek dasyat inbox mantap oveje yks dsbdsb nahh banyak khan.... itu keknya udah termasuk variety show. Dan gw gak nonton acara2 reality yang macem kameramen-mobil-grasakgrusuk gt karena udah pusing duluan

Korelasinya? Nah ini diaa... gw pun pas mulai kuliah th 2016an juga masih nontonin acara2 itu. Meski emang udah gak intens ya, karena saat itu gw juga tergolong “anti-idealis” ke tipi yang masa kini itutuu yaa taulah ya. Bukan buat ngediss atw gimana juga, gw pun tetep nonton acaranya wkwk. Tapi yang gw komentarin dulu kek “dih apaansi kaku bgt” “elah mo ketawa pake mikir” karena emang acara2nye idealis bgt khan, ingin mengedu-kasih. Tapi gw rasa nggak ah, yg nonton tipi kek gw mah pengennya emang ketawa aj gapake mikir awkawkawk terlihat menyedihkan yh

Tapi, gw jadi belajar dengan melihat alur2 program acaranya. Terlepas dari gimmick/settingan yang digunakan di tipi2 (gw juga nggak peduli sama ginian), ternyata alurnya itu bener-bener ngebantu banget buat gw belajar interaksi as-professional or at least with orang asing yang memang ada keperluan untuk berbicara dengannya. Kalau gimik sama joget2 mah yaudee buat ketaawa2 aje atau ga gwnya main hape doang dengerin wkwk. Ada juga sikk acara yang emang sampis bgt sampe artisnya aja bingung ni arahnya mau kemanaaa sambil ???. ya gitu deh, emang gw akui ga semuanya bagus

“Terus, apa yang lu pelajari dong tan dari media massa yang jadi konsumsi masyarakat ini?”

Ya, setidaknya gw belajar dengan salah satu acara variety/talkshow kaliya, jadi kek program sejenis tanya jawab dan... keknya emang semuanya dirancang buat tanya jawab dan ada tamu2 gitu dehya. Ntar juga dikasi gimmick kek lagi outing di mall/jalan/apalah2 terus sambil nanya2, jadi yaa sama aja isinya ngobrolll/interaksi tadi. Kecuali gameshow kaliya, mungkin ada tapi dikit porsinya

Gw mempelajari bagaimana host2nya bertanya, dan bagaimana tamunya menjawab... keknya itu poin pentingnya. Pertanyaan2 itu bisa aja didaur ulang sehingga bumi ini makin hijau-gdenk, tapi jawaban2 tamunya? Nahh ini dia kalau kata orang “tantangannya” alias susahnye wkwk ribet bgt jaman skarang pake tantangan2 siape coba yg mau nantangin lo. Gak semua tamu bakal ngasih jawaban sesuai dengan yang diinginkan acara tsb... inilah yang gw pahami tentang naik-turunnya popularitas & program TV

Gw inget semuanya, mulai dari halo pakabar – kesibukan / kegiatannya apa-yuk kita main games/anothergimmick-sampai pada akkhirnya, “kira2 apa nih harapannya buat ke depan” udah itu2 aja. Paling yaa dihubung2in dikit sama profil/peristiwa yang terkait dengan tamu atau tema programnya, itupun kalo ada yaa wkwk karena gasemuanya ngasih ini. Ada juga kok acara tipi yang keknye emang buang2 duit aja, kamera nyorot kemaana2 sambil narasi udah gw juga gangerti wkwk

Pola2 itu gw coba pelajari berulang-ulang, karena emang gitu2 aja kan. Tapi, poinnya adalah bagaimana pola tersebut disesuaikan dengan yang tadi, yaitu tamu or peristiwa or tujuan dari program/kegiatan yang diadakan.  Hampir semua program yang gw temukan mirip2 kek gitu, jadi adaa aja dikait2in sama tamunya, meski yaa terkadang emang suka “ngorek2” gitu yaa... mending artisnye yang gw tahu lah sekarang siapa aja bisa masuk tipiii wkwk males bet mending w buka tanyarl

“Ohh jadi tanya jawab itu ya, emang pengaruhnya apa sih tan dari tontonan2 itu?”

Pertama, gw jadi berani nulis ini... wkwkwk awalnya gw emang ngakuin kalo gamudah ngutarain yg ada di kepala ini. Takut gapenting lah itulah tp emang kadang gapenting juga sik. Setelah gw belajar dari “pola tivi” ini, bisa gw runutkan dan terkadang ada juga kok program yang emang gagal di hari itu, dan dibahas mulu wkwk. Jadi gw bisa sekalian belajar di situ

Konkritnya, pengaruh pola2 ini buat gw adalah... gw jadi bisa nyusun pertanyaan untuk wawancara, bisa bridging (dikit2), gimana caranya biar interaksinya dua arah... dan yang paling penting adalah bisa menghargai orang lain yang sedang berbicara. Iya, setidaknya meski emang ga 100 persen sempurna - gw bisa menerapkan hal itu. Seneng banget ketika bisa nanya harapan orang ke depannya, karena gaada yang tahu kan siapa aja yang denger dan ngedoain? Dari sinilah gw bener2 belajar dari apa yang gw dapatkan, yang gw lihat, dan gw rasakan (hasek) yaa gt deh

Selain itu, gw juga mempelajari bagaimana sikap perilaku dll dan semuanya dari kebutuhan industri tivi untuk kehidupan. Gw pun sadar kalau gak semua orang aware dengan hal ini, tapi setidaknya dengan tulisan ini bisa jadi arsip kalau tontonan TV dan dunia nyata pastinya ada bedaaa sribu persen. Jadi emang gaboleh dimakan mentah2 info yang diterima yah, apalagi kite gatau kan kalo kamera udah dimatiin apa aja yang mereka lakukan di sana. Jadi tetep pilah2 informasi, dan sesuaikan dengan kebutuhan

Bat!Duo!! This is the Bat!Duo story!! Completely forgotten I once owned it!

When I was a kid, maybe 14 or so (which is, you know, 20+ years ago), I belonged to a Yahoo! mailing list for an anime called Gundam Wing. It was mostly populated by other teens, of varying ages, as it was started by a teen and her friends. Eventually it migrated, when Yahoo! groups started as forums, and even branched off into non-GW related stuff in a second forum.

One of the things I remember the most clearly is the oldest person in the group. Her name was Steelsong. She was a 40-something Dom with a sub whose name we knew even though we knew nothing else. She ran her own fanfic archive because the web was still handmade HTML and navigated in webrings and I’m pretty sure Google didn’t exist or was only barely, barely launched and not well known. She was kind and patient and we loved her. She treated everyone on the group with the respect given any adult, even though most of the rest of the world was still treating us like we were children. Not teenagers even, but children. She never once condescended to any of us, never made our youth a barrier to her respect, never treated us like we were incapable of being full people or like we were less than her because we were young.

I remember that she hosted our fanfiction, as absolutely terrible as it was (and I still have some of it, I am WELL aware of how cringingly terrible it is, just absolute nonsense garbage), right there alongside of other fic that was soul-achingly beautiful. Not a separate section for her friends or for kids, just right there like we were good enough to feature alongside other authors. I never once received crit from her that I didn’t ask for, only support. Only love. I am still writing today partly because Steel was so kind about our fic, fanfic and original.

I remember that when I started doing clay sculpture, she commissioned a tiny pair of dragons from me, to support me doing artwork. She sent a check my mom cashed for me, and my mom helped me mail it when it was finished. It broke in transit, and Steel assured me that she mended it and that it was still beautiful. It was a small gold dragon curled up with a small silver dragon.

I remember that her patience knew no bounds. I remember that she was there for us, regardless of reason. When we wanted to know silly things like what to do with a single AA battery, she answered. When we had serious questions about sex, she answered.  When we had questions about writing, she taught us. When one of our group members, a young gay teen in Australia, ended up in the hospital and then stopped making posts, and we all knew what had happened, she let us talk to her about it because we couldn’t go to our own parents, even though we had just lost a friend.

She was not a replacement to my parents, but she was an extra parent, in some ways. A friend, certainly, but someone that had been through more life than we had and was willing to pass on knowledge if we asked for it. Someone older that we trusted with things that were too uncomfortable to go to our parents or teachers or whatever about, because we already knew she wasn’t going to judge us or something, and that we would get an honest answer.

I don’t know why I’m remembering this so hard tonight, and I’m not sure if there’s a point to sharing this, except that I know she’s gone now. She was ill the last time we spoke, and her site went down a long time ago, and I miss her. She was a huge influence on my life, then and now. She was hope, for me, that life as an adult didn’t have to be boring, it wouldn’t have to mean giving up the things I loved and Becoming Only Responsible With No Fun. Her presence meant I had hope I could still write and play with friends even when I wasn’t ‘a kid’ anymore. And she’s gone, and I miss her, and I wanted to share her from the perspective of youth, and the perspective over twenty years later has provided me.

And I think of her, when people go off about older folks being in fandom with younger folks. I’m an older folks now, or at least middle aged folks because there are certainly folks older than me still, but I wasn’t always. I’ve been here since i was a younger folks, and I know how much Steel’s presence and support meant to me, how much she helped not just me but everyone on that group. And I think of the people saying older folks don’t belong in fandom, and that they shouldn’t interact with younger folks at all, and I just think... I can’t agree. I needed that kind of solid presence in my life back then and even at the age I am now, I need the folks older than me to stay. I want them here.

So I guess, like, if you’re here and you’re 40 or 50 or 60 or 70 or 80 or whatever, I want you here in fandom with me, still. Your presence here is a comfort. It is hope. It is a reminder that life will continue to be fun, even as I get older, myself. And if you’re younger and you have this sort of elder in your groups, I hope that they are like Steel. I hope they are kind and patient and supportive, and that knowing them gives you hope for your own future. I hope in twenty years you look back and remember them fondly.

Loreposting about Abaddon

Abaddon doesn’t get a lot of attention. As a deposed god he doesn’t seem relevant to the Guild Wars timeline after Nightfall. But I keep thinking about him because Abaddon is probably the most influential character Tyria ever had.

Let’s just go over where he appears in-game if you start off in GW2. Everyone knows the six human gods. They’re in statues, temples, personal shrines everywhere. The base game story makes you detour through a sunken temple dedicated to Abaddon, while the Orrian temples to the other five gods are still intact on the surface. This is not by chance. It’s also nudging you to notice that there are no Orrian temples to Kormir, because she replaced Abaddon only two centuries ago. This is reflected again later on in Siren’s Landing on the other side of Orr, where the Five, and Abaddon, each have a personal reliquary, and Abaddon’s is central, connected to all the others, and still intact.

Building on that refresher on human divinity, in Path of Fire you visit the actual place Abaddon was defeated by the other Five gods and pushed into a side dimension to keep him out of the world.

And when you visit the archives of the Durmand Priory, they have an imposing Abaddon statue towering over the stairs. Other than being reflected in three major environments, he doesn’t have a role in the plot. BUT.

As Kormir explains to you, the weakness of the human gods is that their excess of power keeps fucking up the world. The Desolation, a map that covers only a part of the sulfur desert, is completely uninhabitable because Abaddon was destroyed there. This happened because Abaddon, who was actually the most powerful of the Six and the leader of the group, wanted humans to share in the gift of magic. He was the god of knowledge, after all. This proved disastrous and the other gods reduced and compartmentalised the magic, and Abaddon went on a whole attempt to overthrow them and become one, single god of all.

The destruction of Abaddon’s temples and relics was intentional. He was wiped from memory. The pantheon was called The Five until Nightfall, wherein the existence of Abaddon was revealed as he tried to drag himself back into the mortal plane. As a god his spheres of power were water and knowledge. Erasing knowledge of him was what made him powerless. (Interestingly, the Priory’s special collections contains the Scroll of the Five True Gods, an ancient record of what the human gods knew about the Elder Dragons, but one dragon is missing - the water dragon, who like Abaddon, has a damaged and erased history. The six Elder Dragons and six human gods have many respective connections.)

When he lived, Abaddon’s followers were the Margonites, who believed him the only real god and worshipped him exclusively, unlike other humans who revere all the Six together. They were rewarded with transformation into etheral beings with an extremely long lifespan, and were imprisoned in Abaddon’s Realm, the Realm of Torment, when he was forced out of Tyria. As the god of knowledge he had a realm to himself, and when fallen, his sphere inversed. Knowledge became madness, the theme his realm embodies. Temples were sunk, records destroyed, because to remove all knowledge of the god of knowledge made him powerless.

I can’t remember where, but it’s implied that by Nightfall comes around a thousand years after his banishment, Abaddon is finally able to claw his way back into Tyria because people are starting to remember him. There’s one side quest that sticks out in my memory called The Search for Enlightenment about a scholar stealing scriptures from an Elonian library which leads to a massive raid by Margonites. The scholar was ‘babbling’ about a forgotten god. Proximity to knowledge about Abaddon seems to bestow insanity, the connection between Abaddon in his inverted realm and his hold over anyone who knows he exists. Though the Five Gods tried, they didn’t erase everything (hell, Trahearne and Sayeh al' Rajihd give you a guided tour of an Abaddon temple). Over a thousand years, relics popped up and people began to remember The Five was once The Six. As they did his influence returned until he was able to attempt to merge the Realm of Torment with Tyria and become a single, all powerful god in the absence of the others.

But wait how does that make a forgotten god the most influential character in both games?

Well.

Guild Wars lore is nothing if not completely linked together. Every single thing has cause and effect, every event is a domino. The story is consistent from Prophecies to this day. So let’s start with the first GW1 chapter, Prophecies.

It all starts at the Citadel of Flame.

It was built into the volcano Hrangmer. The charr had been displaced, pushed out of Ascalon by the successful expansion of humankind. 450 years before GW2 the Flame Legion found this volcano and, inside, Titans. You know how Mordremoth’s minions are Mordrem, Zhaitan’s minions are Risen, etc? Titans are Abaddon minions, left behind and hidden after his defeat. They change their appearance to suit their environment. In a jungle they’re vegetative, in mountains they’re made of ice, in the Realm of Torment they’re twisted constructs of flesh, in a volcano, they’re fire. The Flame Legion brings the Titans back to the charr, charr worship them, and in exchange, get immense fire powers. Flame Legion completely takes over charr society and makes it a theistic, misogynist nightmare with the Shamans at the top.

Abaddon has just restructured charr society.

Using their overpowered fire magic indirectly from a human god, charr, ironically, rally against the humans and nuke Ascalon to pieces. The few survivors escape to Kryta. Charr are now pretty much unstoppable and invade all the way to Orr. Vizier Khilbron used a powerful stolen scroll to repel the charr with magic, and it completely destroys Orr, collapsing the island into the ocean.

Abaddon has just wiped out two nations of the humans who used to worship him, with Orr as the final goal - to tear down the resplendent city of the Gods who betrayed him. This is referenced, if you know what you’re looking for, in GW2. You can scale the Vizier’s Tower, where he read the scroll that sank all of Orr, and on the wall...

A mural to the lost god, a testament to power that, a thousand years later, one who was expunged from history had a faithful likeness depicted.

Ascalon’s a burning hole and Orr is underwater. Now what? Those Ascalonian survivors in Kryta find the place is controlled by White Mantle. The White Mantle are committing mass murder via bloodstone sacrifice (bloodstones being the power curb the gods introduced after imbuing humans with magic) in order to halt the prophecy of a Chosen One opening the Door of Komalie. Vizier Khilbron turns up, shaking out some mysteriously wet boots don’t worry about that, and leads you against these genocidal cultists. Which, whoops, does lead to the Door of Komalie being opened - and it’s a doorway into Abbadon’s Realm of Torment, out of which Titans power through. This was the apocalypse planned for Kryta. GW: Factions is the Canthan chapter in which Shiro Tagachi, the emperor’s bodyguard, continually visits a fortune teller until she inflicts such paranoia on his mindset that he believes he needs to kill the emperor in self-defense. His defeat causes the Jade Wind that creates the Jade Sea. As a spirit, Shiro then engulfs Cantha in a plague that warps people into tumorous mutants. The fortune teller turns out to be an Abaddon minion whose task was the eventual destruction of Cantha. This one also is foiled by the player.

GW: Nightfall is the culmination chapter. Abaddon is now powerful enough, well known enough, to breach Tyria and try to come back. His agent is Varesh Ossa, who slowly transforms into a Margonite over the course of the game. The player confronts the breach between planes and finally enters the Realm of Torment, meeting the shades of Abaddon’s servants that came before, the lich form of Vizier Khilbron, and the spirit of Shiro Tagachi, before facing Abaddon himself.

And that’s the end of it. In Guild Wars magic cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred, so another god ascends in Abaddon’s place. They are once again The Six.

It’s Abaddon that ruined half the Elonian desert, Abaddon whose sinking of Orr gave Zhaitan the perfect mass grave to necromance, Abaddon who froze the Cantha sea into solid jade, and Abaddon whose final death and eruption of magic started waking Primordus, leading to the norn, dwarf and asuran alliance to stop it in 1078 AE-- introducing the norn and asura to the rest of Tyria, and making the dwarves extinct, cutting their entire race’s existence short. If it wasn’t for Abaddon, the charr wouldn’t have been taken over by their magic-toting shaman caste, only to come to their senses and rebel and ostracize the Flame Legion afterward. Hell, the current Flame Legion Imperators STILL style their horns in an homage to Abaddon, and probably don’t even remember why! To a human god, gone for over a thousand years, who used their race as pawns in a revenge attempt at wiping out every nation the humans had built!

And even after being thoroughly and completely destroyed, his magic STILL haunts Tyria enough for his statues to punish you for not showing the proper respect.

Here’s my fic for the  GW Holiday Gift Exchange 2020 and Trickzill! Thanks to 2pcb for beta reading!

Summary: Christmas. Wufei understands the concept, in theory. It’s a Christian festival now mainly about shopping, with some guff about finding the true spirit of family and happiness tacked on. It’s something both sentimental and aspirational, which to Wufei summarises Duo in a nutshell. Duo is famously a people person in the exact way that Wufei is not, and Christmas is very much a people occasion. An occasion that Duo's not getting this year unless Wufei does something about it. Armed with 24 hours and an awful list of suggestions from the Internet, Wufei's on a mission to deliver a last-minute holiday.
