I think Percy would discover he could blood bend accidentally. I think that after Akhlys, he knew he could blood bend, but he never tried it. Like, during the heat of a battle, someone tries to get Annabeth, and he gets this heavy tugging in his gut and suddenly the guy is spilling blood from all his orifices.
@hibiscusspunweb I agree! If I could expand on this headcanon:
I think Percy would be afraid of that part of himself because he associates it with the one time he scared Annabeth. He'd compare himself to Gabe, asking himself if he's as bad as him since he had to use fear to get his way. It isn't until he accidentally does it, scaring himself and Annabeth, that he tries to suppress that power — something he's never done with any of his abilities before. Unsurprisingly, it takes a toll on him because the sea does not like to be restrained. Poseidon eventually has to step in and reassure him that blood-bending is a dangerous practice, but using it in moderation is not inherently bad under necessary circumstances, like Tartarus. After some reflection, Percy and Annabeth sit down and have a genuine discussion about this ability and move toward understanding it (and each other) instead of trying to ignore it.

So, I’m mad at fanartists…
I’ve been reading the Percy Jackson series for the first time and have tried to keep myself from spoilers. But of course, I ran into the absolutely beautiful percabeth fanart. Specifically the fanart of Percy and Annabeth falling into Tartarus😍
This fanart was so beautiful and EVERYWHERE and I was so excited to finally read this amazing scene!!! I finally finished The Last Olympian today and actually cried I didn’t get that scene! I thought for sure it would be in the finale😭😭😭
So thank you fanartists for fooling me. Guess I have to go read Heroes of Olympus books now…

just imagine
percy and annabeth in their 40s having teenagers.
3 to 4 hyper, witty, extremely intelligent teenagers. with powers.
imagine them all stuffed into the car for long roads trips since they can’t fly. imagine them in a heated match of pool volleyball. imagine them on opposing sides of capture the flag at camp
oh gods…imagine family game night

It takes them a while to notice, but after Tartarus, Percy and Annabeth realize that they're being attacked far less than they used to. Annabeth reasons that their journey has proven their strength and that monsters now avoid them out of fear. Percy thinks that the monsters see no difference between themselves and him now…he wonders if they’re right.

you know when you're sleeping and suddenly you get a feeling that you're falling and wake up terrified? how more horrifying and terrifying would that sensation be for percy and annabeth?

Many people say Annabeth getting dragged into Tartarus by the web around her ankle was a result of her pride but I feel like that was just a mistake?? Like, she didn’t not check her leg because she was sure of herself but because she honestly didn’t realize a web might be wrapped around it. Her ankle was numb from her injury and there were webs everywhere so it’s not that easy to spot. I honestly think it was just a mistake and not her pride

i am once again thinking about Percy and Annabeth and their respective relationships with their step-parents, particularly how the other views the other's dynamic with their step-parents.
Because there's a really interesting subtle thing that we see which is when Annabeth talks about her step-mom to Percy, Percy's assumption is that Annabeth's step-mom is like Gabe. He just presumes that because that's what's familiar with him and based on his own experiences he assumes their situations are similar.
But then when Percy actually meets Annabeth's step-mom (and her dad) he realizes their situations aren't at all the same. He was expecting another Gabe, but instead he just found a genuinely caring family that was just struggling to find their footing with one another.
The interesting thing is that this implies an inverse - especially with what we know about how Percy and Annabeth describe their experiences. Percy doesn't really talk about Gabe ever. To anyone. Grover knows the whole picture there but he's basically the only one of Percy's friends who does. As far as we know, unless Grover told her at some point, Annabeth doesn't know about Gabe. She knows he was a jerk, but Percy out loud doesn't ever really get into details about it. She knows they didn't get along and eventually Gabe disappeared and Percy basically never spoke of it again. Presumably, Annabeth thinks Percy's dynamic with Gabe was like her dynamic with her step-mom, like how Percy had thought their situations were the same. Especially given we know Percy assumed their situations were the same and likely spoke about it as such if it ever came up.
Like. That's such an interesting tiny aspect of their dynamic that never gets touched upon. Annabeth likely doesn't know about this very core traumatic experience Percy endured before they met because she's operating under the assumption that their family just was a little rocky like hers was.

headcanon that percy's most reoccurring nightmare about tartarus is the one where he loses annabeth to the pit. the one where he trips over the rogue lace of his left shoe and misses her fingers by centimeters. the one where his hands get clammy due to nerves and she slips out of his grasp. the one where they descend over the cliff together but he isn't strong enough to hold the weight of arachne. the one where she uses her knife to slice his palm and catch him off-guard so she can wiggle free. and the one where she's bleeding from the wound on her head. begging him not to tamper with fate. to let the prophecy play out. and a silent conversation passes between them. an 'i love you' and 'goodbye' in the same breath. and he stares into her eyes for what he knows is the last time and lets go. the one where he has to watch annabeth sacrifice herself to save the world.
