* elliott has DEFINITELY recreated the fork-hairbrush scene from the little mermaid
* harvey is allergic to cats but he powers through for the farmer
* abby DEFINITELY uses tumblr
* harvey has a little plane nightlight. not because he's scared of the dark but because he thinks it's cool. if you romance him, he puts it in the child(ren)'s bedroom.
* elliott wears hair curlers to bed.
* penny has a collection of drawings that jas and vince made for her. she puts them on her fridge.

* sam's phone wallpaper is a really zoomed in or a 0.5 photo of the farmer / whoever is his partner
* sebastian types in all lower case
* sam types in all caps.
* i think it would be really funny if seb just had sam in his phone as Samson (that grammar and everything) just because it's so unlike his usual typing and he does it to piss sam off
* it's no secret that sam is very forgetful, however i think this helped him become friends with penny. penny is very organized and has every important date (ie birthdays) memorized. --- she NEVER forgets a birthday. --- one day, penny heard sam repeating a phrase to himself so he wouldn't forget what he needed to do. penny encouraged him to write it down and even showed him how to write on a rubber band. sam adopted this and everytime he sees penny he'll smile widely and hold up his wrist (which will have anywhere from 6-10 rubber bands at the time. poor boy).
that's all for now. i may add more later idk. let me know if y'all want me to rack my brain for more of these

Soo uhm.... this might be a short question and a long awnser.
How tall is everyone in ttsbc?
HEIIIIIIIGHTS
Ok. I don't like putting super specific numbers on these sorts of things IN STORY because I know I will forget and mess up, so I usually just describe in terms of how tall they are in relation to the people around them. HOWEVER I will make an exception so long as everyone promises not to make fun of me if I get these mixed up in the actual stories at some point. These are their heights as I have written down on their lil character sheets in my notes for the AU.

How bold would the Ros become with a shy and self-conscious mc?
Hey! I’ll be using a scale of 6 emojis for spicy vs sweet levels.😚=sweet 🥵=spicy. I think that the boldness of the ROs will definitely change depending on the type of MC you choose to play. Some may be all spice and others all sweet and some could be a mix of the two.
Roxanne/Robbie: 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵😚 Ro is usually going at 100% in all aspects! When they want something or someone they're going to get them. If MC is more shy and reserved they'll only dial a down a teeny bit.
Joleen/Johnny: 🥵🥵🥵😚😚😚 Jo is very intuitive and considerate. They will naturally feed off of their partners energy, not to say that they won't make advances. A more shy MC can always rely on them to make them feel wanted yet comfortable.
Delphine/Desmond:🥵🥵🥵🥵😚😚 De is a true leader by nature. If MC is shy or unsure of themself then De will more than willingly take the lead. De will help MC build their confidence so that they feel more confident and comfortable with initiating things more often.
Rina/Ren: 🥵😚😚😚😚😚 R is a bit reserved and inexperienced themself. MC and R may have to stumble through the motions and learn together. They can build on their wants and needs and find their own unique flow.
Everly/Everett: 🥵🥵🥵😚😚😚 Eve is observant and aims to please. They won't want to push MC to far past their comfort level, but they will need MC to show some interest or they will start to feel a bit insecure.
Karla: 🥵🥵😚😚😚😚 Karla might enjoy teasing a more shy and reserved MC, but all in good fun. She has a chill vibe that will probably set MC at ease and make them feel a lot more comfortable in their own skin.
Faye: 🥵😚😚😚😚😚 Faye is already super sweet and a bit of a people pleaser. If MC is feeling shy and self conscious then Faye is going to do everything in her power to make them feel more self assured and at ease.
Sebastien: 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵😚 Seb isn't going to let MC shy away from him. He'll sincerely romance a shy MC until they are thoroughly seduced and can't even remember why they were shy in the first place.
Maxine: 🥵🥵🥵😚😚😚 Max is MC's best friend and as such she is aware of all their little quirks and insecurities. She be patient but she might get a little wary if MC is to passive, since she's already nervous about being more that friends.
Silas: 🥵🥵😚😚😚😚 Silas will probably find a shy MC really cute. He'll outwardly take a step back, taking the opportunity to distance himself from his advisee, and not show an ounce of interest, but inwardly be screaming because of how much he wants to tease them.

Thoughts on Narek’s character
I started writing this ridiculous essay in June of 2021 after I watched season 1 of Picard. @shadowinthefire found a post from back then about the fact that I was writing this whole-ass essay and asked if I would post the essay itself, which I never finished because I decided it wasn’t worth it to start fights with people (and I gained enough distance from the specific irritating exchanges I had about Narek, reported in the essay below, that they were no longer actively pissing me off).
I put the whole thing under a “read more” link because I realize that most people will not care XD
Having finished watching season 1 of Star Trek: Picard, attempted to talk to some people about it, and poked around in the tags, I have found that Narek is the most polarizing character. He seems to be this show/fandom’s Loki or Kylo Ren: one segment of the fandom (myself included; I’m habitually prone to villain-sympathizing) finds him at least somewhat sympathetic and thinks he has the potential for redemption, while another considers him a worthless, irredeemable jerk and “abuser”... a term that’s more appropriately applied here than to some of the other polarizing characters it’s thrown at, but I’m not entirely sure it’s to the point here, either, and I think the emotional charge of the word (inevitably associated with the ‘social justice’ sensibilities of the Tumblr Left) often obscures more than it illuminates.
Insofar as Narek deceives Soji, manipulates her, uses her for his own aims (finding the synths’ homeworld), tries to kill her, and then follows her after she escapes -- all while claiming that he loves her, and possibly even believing it himself -- it seems apropos to term it an abusive relationship, and him an abuser. However, most relationship abuse, as we tend to understand it, doesn’t involve an intelligence agent seducing a target for information. In general, it strikes me as odd to talk about spies who use “honeypotting” or “honeytrapping” as a tactic as “abusers,” because the point is very different. The target is not just a random victim for the spy to control for the sake of a power trip; there’s something specific that the spy wants to accomplish, and the target is collateral damage in the pursuit of that aim. (This is also different from raising and molding children to serve a specific purpose in a way that’s harmful to them, which definitely counts as abuse -- think Enabran Tain with Garak in DS9, or Thanos with Gamora and Nebula in the MCU. Parents have a special responsibility to their children, biological or adopted, to love them unconditionally and act in their best interests. People get into sexual relationships for all kinds of reasons, and while you might think we all have a Kantian responsibility not to treat others as a mere means, it seems unhelpful to apply the term “abuse” to all violations of that duty.)
In the case of Narek and Soji specifically: he sincerely believes that synthetic life will bring about the destruction of all organic life in the galaxy (or universe?), and thinks there is a real possibility that she is Seb-Cheneb, the Destroyer foretold in ancient myths that seemed to be corroborated by the Admonition, which he believes to be the historical testimony of a highly advanced society. From that perspective, Soji is a powerful and dangerous enemy, even though Narek knows that she doesn’t recognize that yet, and is to that extent innocent.
So, what about the fact that Narek keeps claiming that he loves Soji, even during and after his attempt to kill her? That sounds like classic abuser shit: the whole “I love you so much I can’t let anyone else have you,” “the reason I hurt you is because I love you,” “you have to forgive me because I love you so much.” It may or may not matter whether you think he believed it himself: abusers (the argument goes) don’t know what real love is; they might think they love their victim, but they couldn’t really love them if they’re still capable of hurting them. FWIW, I think he does believe he loves her, and it’s not just something he’s lying about to get her to trust him; and I think that largely because Narissa accuses him of having fallen in love with Soji. Narissa, as his sister, knows him very well, and psychopaths (which I think Narissa is but Narek is not) are often very perceptive about other people’s emotions.
Parts of the abuser pattern don’t apply to Narek: he never says he’s hurting Soji because he loves her; it’s all very much despite. But isn’t it abusively manipulative to say that he loves her -- even if he thinks it’s true -- first while he’s trying to gain her trust for the sake of betraying her, then, while crying, when he’s trying to kill her, and again when sees her after having tried to kill her? Isn’t he saying it to try to get her to feel sorry for him or feel guilty for holding him prisoner, to make her doubt herself, to give him an opening to escape and try to kill her again, along with all of her people?
Well... yes and no. Saying he loves her while he’s still working on getting her to reveal the location of the android planet is a tactic; it’s part of the honey trap thing. Falling in love with the target of your honeypot scheme is very bad form for a spy, but it’s a pretty common feature of spy stories involving that strategy. (A major departure from the way that trope usually shows up -- which I think is relevant to the difference in how people perceive it -- is that in this case the honey-trapper is a man and the target is a woman, so they’re easier to fit onto the abuser/victim template. If you do think that female spies are abusing the men they seduce, props for consistency.) I think the crying is a genuine emotional response, whether or not you want to confer the honorific of love on whatever feelings he has for her (attempting to outline criteria for love that could determine whether or not Narek’s feelings for Soji fall into that category is beyond the scope of this essay). In any case, he’s not happy about having to kill her, even though he’s still convinced it’s completely necessary.
I’m not sure he’s actually trying to accomplish anything by continuing to say he loves her when he’s a prisoner on Coppelia. Maybe he wants her to feel sorry for him, or forgive him, but he’s also very upfront at this point about what he thinks she is and what he’s trying to do, and I don’t think he expects her to let him go or anything. I think he’s just saying it because (he thinks) it’s true. Of course it hurts Soji to keep hearing him say it, because it’s a reminder of how he betrayed her trust, and if he were more sensitive to her feelings, he wouldn’t keep saying it. So he’s being emotionally selfish, but he also thinks/hopes they’re both going to die imminently (I doubt he has any hope of escaping before the Romulan fleet “sterilizes” the planet), so I suspect he’s saying it in a “nothing matters anyway” mode.
To be clear, I don’t think Narek is a good person, and I don’t ship him with anyone other than a good therapist. I just don’t think he’s evil, and I feel bad for him rather than hating him (though I think Soji is completely justified in hating him). I think he’s an OK, flawed, but morally weak person in a no-win situation -- much like Theon Greyjoy in season 2 of Game of Thrones (or A Clash of Kings, if you go by the books), whom I also sympathized with even before all the torture and mutilation (definitely a minority position).
I also don’t think it’s particularly helpful to label him with the Tumblr-SJ-morally-loaded term “abuser” -- which is deliberately used to mark anyone who finds him (or similar characters) sympathetic as a Bad Ally, as bad in specifically Social Justice-y terms. (When I said in a Discord discussion that “I’m more inclined than most people to try to take the perspective of prima facie unsympathetic characters,” an anti-Narek person replied, “I also try to take the perspective of prima facie ‘unsympathetic’ characters, which are often female and/or people of color. I think that’s different to ‘evil’ characters that just reinforce traditional power structures.” Wow, cool. So you’re accusing me of sympathizing with the oppressor, and saying that you, virtuously, only sympathize with villains under the only circumstances when it’s morally acceptable: namely, if the villain belongs to a social category that’s marginalized in the actual world. Way to reduce fiction to Hot-Button Social Issues.)
Parallels with Other Characters
Garak, Deep Space Nine
I tried (unsuccessfully) to make the case to someone that aspects of Narek’s situation are not unlike Garak’s at some of his morally lowest moments in DS9: first when he unwillingly tortures Odo in “The Die is Cast,” both to prove himself to Tain so he can go home and to protect Odo from possibly worse torture; and then when he tries to destroy the Founders’ homeworld in “Broken Link” while Bashir (whom we can all assume he loves) is also on the planet.
Narek pretty obviously doesn’t enjoy hurting Soji, but he does it because he thinks he has to. Unlike Garak, who stops torturing Odo at some point, Narek goes through with his plan to kill Soji, even while expressing his unhappiness about it. The person I was talking to took that as a sign of Garak’s superior moral character, and perhaps a sign that while his concern and distress were sincere, Narek’s was not. I’m not sure we can draw that conclusion (even if I do think that Garak is a better person than Narek, on the whole). Garak also stopped torturing Odo because he knew perfectly well that he couldn’t actually tell them anything useful about the Founders and that he wasn’t going to get anything more out of him by continuing to torture him, and he didn’t think Tain expected him to torture Odo to death as a condition of returning home. By contrast, Narek went through with his plan to kill Soji because he was quite sure at this point that she was the Destroyer destined to bring an end to all organic life. The reason Garak stopped while Narek didn’t wasn’t (just) because Garak is a better person; it was also because Garak didn’t think he could still accomplish anything by continuing to torture Odo, while Narek’s goals still demanded that he kill Soji.
So that brought me to a case where Garak doesn’t stop of his own accord in trying to do something morally reprehensible: his attempt to destroy the Founders’ homeworld, and thus to commit genocide, in “Broken Link” -- which would also result in killing Dr. Bashir, who’s definitely his friend and arguably his beloved. He’s willing to do that because the female Founder has threatened Cardassia with annihilation, and he believes it’s necessary to save Cardassia. This action and its motivation is pretty closely parallel with Narek’s. Indeed, Narek has better moral math on this one: he’s trying to kill one person he (thinks he) loves and (eventually) to commit a genocide of synths to save all organic life, not just a single species and its empire.
My opponent argued that Garak is still more sympathetic because he believes he will die as a result of his action, and therefore he, unlike Narek, is willing to make sacrifices for his cause. I think it’s unfair to draw that conclusion because the situations aren’t exactly parallel, and Narek doesn’t expect to die as a result of killing Soji. He tells a guard not to lower the force field to pursue Soji because of the radiation in the room where he’d trapped her, but why doesn’t he go in himself? Probably because the radiation would escape and kill other people, which he doesn’t want to do. Does he think he’s risking his life by taking a ship alone to pursue her? Not clear; possibly not. He probably does think he’s risking his life by going to Raffi and Rios for help in stopping the synths from building and activating the beacon, and in offering himself to be used as bait to get into the compound. Because I think he has genuine feelings for Soji (again, not weighing in on whether it’s “love”), I think that killing her in pursuit of the aims of the Zhat Vash is a sacrifice... but I realize that may not make him sound particularly sympathetic. I’m reminded of Thanos sacrificing Gamora for the Soul Stone in Infinity War, which was some definite bullshit -- but I also think his goal is way more stupid than Narek’s and the relationship actually does count as abusive, for the reasons explained above. Nonetheless, I think some of us would be willing to say that killing Bashir to save Cardassia was a genuine sacrifice for Garak, and would have been whether or not he also expected to die himself. Does that only count because it would have been collateral damage rather than the immediate goal, and thus subject to the “doctrine of double effect”?
Note from Jan 2023: I also planned to write sections fleshing out the comparison with Theon Greyjoy in season 2/book 2 of GOT/ASOIAF, and another one comparing Narek’s situation to that of Thomas Sharpe in Guillermo del Toro’s film Crimson Peak. I leave these as exercises for the reader...

...Huh, there's more people than just me and Seb who got sent to a pokemon world? Looking at Ren's blog, it seems like he's probably had to get used to a lot of different things pretty quickly. Can't say I'd want to have to deal with that
---
If he ever gets sent to an immaterial plane I am GOING to kill whatever god(s) sent him there. Somehow. (Also I'm concerned about how he's dealing with the stuff with Cynthia's blog and I have no idea how to help other than maybe sending unopened instant coffee.)

Holiday Card and Bets
Story, the Magicless Prefect of Ramshackle, settles in for a well-earned Holiday Feast with her Dormmates. Together they eat, puzzle over her mystery friend, and partake in the classic pastime of dissecting Someone’s love life.
Warnings :Minor Spoilers for Chapter 4. Mostly fluff and silliness.
Tumblr media
“Mystery Dude?” Story frowned as she ran a finger over the mysterious Holiday Card. The quality was undeniable, if an odd choice. The front image showed a gothic style castle with the classic kind of font she’d seen used for Ren Faires and anything branded with knights and Fairytales. The inside was nearly too short and basic for her to make anything of, beyond how pretty the handwriting was. And those two little initials, staring her down.
“I really wish I knew the people from Diasomnia better,” She glanced at the ghosts. “Did any of them live here when the Dorm was still used before?”
“Nah.” Biggs, the round ghost shook his head. “That was long ago. They were thinking of keeping the Freshman unsorted and giving them a year of basics for ease of professors.”
“They were a real high strung lot,” Calloway, the thin one cackled. “I tell you, all I had to do was float past and the whole dorm was running out the doors and leaping out the windows.”
“Wild.” Story snorted. “Are all magicians such big babies?”
“Most young ones,” Ashton, the final ghost, nodded sagely. “I was worried when those Leech boys came. They’re…odd…”
“Guess that makes me odd too,” She sighed. “But that doesn’t solve who in Diasomnia would give me a Holiday Card…”
“Is it really that important?” Grim looked up from the can of tuna he’d been devouring. “It’s just a card.”
Well for Grim it was. Story looked back to the swirling script. Someone had taken the time to get her a card–not even her friends had done that much. Granted, Ace and Deuce ran to her side as soon as she called, but still…There was something intensely sentimental about being thought of. Especially being so far away from home…
“Why do you assume it’s a student from Diasomnia anyway?” Biggs asked, biting into a turkey leg.
“Lilia’s the Vicewarden,” She hummed, grateful for the distraction. “While he’s pretty friendly with most people, I get the impression that most dorms steer clear of interacting with them too much. Even Cater steered clear, and he’s pretty sociable.”
“Trey too,” Grim agreed. “But then those guys that came to confront Leona looked really scary.”
“Did they?”
“You don’t know?” Calloway nudged her. “Your brain must’ve really cracked open after the SpellDrive Tournament.”
“I just didn’t find them scary.” Story laughed. “At least, no more than anyone else around here.”
“Don’t tell me you’re scared of most magicians!” Biggs looked horrified.
“More like it’s the most natural thing in the world to be a bit afraid of someone who has the ability to hurt you.” She leaned back against the couch. “It’s their character that determines how actually afraid of them I am. So far, I’d say the guys I’ve met from that dorm are...a little aloof, but not what I’d call scary. No more than the Leech brothers or Jamil. Probably less.”
“Did either of them have those initials?” Ashton suggested. “Maybe they wanted to thank you for your help! Or maybe one of them likes ya?”
Story scowled at the suggestion. “Nah. Both of them had ‘S’ names. Silver and Seb…something…”
“Drat.” He sighed, swishing his grape juice like wine.
“Maybe it stands for Magical…Dealer?”
“Azul would just sign his name,” Grim grunted.
“And pick a more ostentatious card.” Story agreed. “I’m not sure who it’s from…”
“Looks like a master of Watercolor.” Ashton observed. “I think it’s handmade.”
“Curiouser and curiouser…”
“Master of Divination?” Biggs suggested.
“Minister of Druids.” Calloway added a guess.
“Druids don’t have ministers,” Ashton rolled his eyes. “Maybe it stands for My Dear!”
“Stop trying to add in a new party to the bet!” Biggs complained.
“Bet?” Story glanced at Grim.
“We’re betti’n on who you go out with.” The monster offered, digging into the turkey. “Biggs thinks it’s Deuce.”
“Excuse me?” She stared at her dormmates in disbelief.
“Oh-ho!” Calloway crowed brightly. “So Ace then…”
“I’m telling you,” Grim waved a free paw at the ghosts. “Story’s cream of the Crop! Not just anyone can win the heart of a noble Prefect!”
“Who’d he bet on?” Story glanced to Ashton.
“That Jack Fella.”
“Right!” The monster nodded. “Now that’s the kinda guy who’d make sure his girlfriend and her dormmates were fed, no matter what. He’s principled like that.”
“Meanwhile Crewel’s thinking it’s a boy called Epel.” Ashton continued. “Presuming it’s a yearmate–otherwise he thinks it’ll be Vil.”
“Wait–the Teachers too?!”
“And the Headmage,” Biggs added. “He thinks you’d go for another Prefect, but he won’t say which one.”
“Isn’t that cheating?” Story squinted.
“As long as it’s not any of the ones the other’s bet on.” Calloway cackled. “I think he means the one from Iginhyde.”
“Right, because we’ve clearly met.” She laughed.
“Vargas thinks it’s gonna be Jamil.” Biggs carried on. “And Trien’s set on Trey.”
“I…” Story shook her head. “Doesn’t anyone have anything better to do?”
“Sam thinks you’ve got a thing for Ruggie,” Grim added, ignoring her protests. “I tried to tell him it was a terrible bet, but if he wants to lose, that means more food for me!”
“Oh!” Biggs brightened. “And Lucifer says Leona.”
“Oh come on!” Story threw her hands up. “The cat’s betting too?!”
“And Ashton’s going on about how none of us are right.” Calloway glared. “Picked a candidate yet?!”
“A boy from Diasomnia.” Ashton grinned. “I’ll change my answer with Crowley when he returns.”
“I…” She shook her head helplessly. “Sure. Why not? You guys figure out my love life while I keep this campus from falling apart at the seams.”
“Will do!” Calloway laughed. “Don’t you worry, Story. You’ve got all the time in the world to decide.”
“This is worse than Thanksgiving with my great Aunt Carol.” She groaned. “No betting on future kids.”
“About that…” Biggs began.
“Oh, come on!”

Dear Tyko,
It’s been an exhausting time since I last wrote, which is why I haven’t, though I’ve been keeping your response close.
Before we left Ardra Rhyn, we all met to drink (tea and then alcohol) and talk about next steps. Ren and Seb mostly kept their own counsel, other than when we asked Ren to go over the Perrik legend about her meeting a star that they’d sung when we first met them.
The story goes something like this: long ago, when Perrik was journeying, there was a star that was unstable, and in danger of going nova and killing those who lived in its orbit. She did—well, a lot of things I’d love to have more detail on, but they seem to have involved talking to some wizards. And then she spoke to the star, who was apparently cursed. Perrik broke the curse, everyone was saved, the star rewarded her, and off she traveled again, to other adventures. There may be history to it, but it was a long time ago, long enough that there’s no way of knowing what star it was.
Ren knew the edges of a few other stories: a fire elemental who had met stars, and mentions of an elf or fey who may have, though they only knew references to it in other ballads. But still, nothing exactly in the historical record, nothing that would tell us how to find a star that would be able to speak to us in a way we could understand, let alone how to survive getting so close to one.
Seb, meanwhile, told me when I asked that he thought Mishakal might not mean a hundred planes exactly, that the point is to be somewhere around there, not that we have to count each and every one that intersects with the relevant place, though he’d feel more comfortable if I talk to a divine scholar about that.
But mostly, it was Maliah and Niko and I going in circles. As I told you, I’m of the opinion that getting the ingredients for the potion, dragon scales and phoenix feathers and all, gives us more chances to fail than doing one task that’s bigger and more dangerous but that, in the end, will give us everything we need to bring Reorx back. (Though I say it with regret, because I’d love an excuse to get my hands on a Bardic Instrument.) The other two aren’t quite ready to eliminate that as a possibility, though Maliah had apparently heard of the Deeping Wellemere, whose water we’d need as part of that recipe. It’s a spring of some kind in the feywild, and while she’s heard of people seeking it, they tend to go missing while doing so, which makes me nervous.
The primary attraction of the recipe is that we know where to go for it, and what to do. One can find dragons, and convince them or do them a service or, in desperation, try to fight them. Phoenixes can be found on the elemental plane of fire, and I think Niko could guide us there. The Deeping Wellemere is in the Feywild, there to be sought. There may be legends about the Bardic Instruments that would point us in the right direction.
The other two … well, you’ve already heard how stumped we are about how to speak to a star who we might convince to do something dangerous for them. The broken planet bathed in planar music … we do have a map, there. My family’s map. We have the region of space where the Procyon was lost, and where Niko traveled to our plane.
And I want you to tell me it’s a coincidence and I’m trying to make connections where there are none about what I’m thinking now, please.
Because I’ve been thinking about broken planets that might fit the conditions Mishakal gave, and what it would be like there. A planet damaged by celestial magic could be broken to pieces, with ejecta in orbit to cause damage. A planet bathed in the music of a hundred planes … it might just be the chords of creation, but with so many open portals, would the resonance be off? I work with sonic magic, I cast Shatter, and I could imagine interplanar resonance doing something similar, on a catastrophic scale.
And I think: if you go to a place like that, especially uncontrolled, falling through portals and godsfalls, if there’s a sonic scream to shake you apart, if there’s unexpected debris, what could that do to a ship, before it goes through another portal and ends up somewhere else? (And if that’s the state of things, the question becomes how we survive it, but you know that’s not why it’s on my mind.)
And I suppose there’s a way to find out for sure if that’s what happened to the Procyon, even while I wait for Damaris Nimate’s exploration to progress. When I cast Speak With Spirits, if you’ll remember, Kadan gave me the name of an engineer he thinks was on shift when the Procyon took on damage on the right side of the ship to have seen what caused it. I could try calling on her, finally, and ask. Maybe she won’t have seen, but if she did, it might be the key not just to my own mystery but to us finding a way to heal the Crafter.
Chances are small. Like I said, I may be drawing connections where there are none. But it’s on my mind.
And it’s been on my mind while we’ve been on Nellaser’s Landing doing our temple service this week.
We spent the first day getting ourselves set up and prepared, seeing our therapists and asking the librarians a whole new series of alarming questions, and then we’ve been hard at work, each of us with tasks best suited to us. Maliah and Ren have spent most of their time at the local hospital instead of at the temple, Maliah and Squirt entertaining children and Ren singing a song or telling a tale to anyone who needs one. Niko’s spent some time there and some time at the temple, and Seb and I have mostly been at the temple (though I’ve hardly seen him, I think he’s mostly been brewing potions).
I’ve been healing broken limbs and concussions and other injuries, but I’ve also been giving life. I’d never cast Raise Dead before this week, even if I knew I knew it, but now I’ve cast it five times, enough to have figured out a few tricks, that long deep drones and quiet singing work better than other loops I’ve tried. I’ve even cast Resurrection once, on a single parent who died three months ago and whose children are well-taken-care-of in foster care but still desperately miss their parent. That was a hard day for everyone, I think, but a family is reunited, and it feels right to do it for someone else, even if I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to do it for myself. (And even if what I really want, to go back in time and save them and let myself be raised by them, is impossible no matter how powerful I get.)
Other than that, it’s mostly been accidental deaths: a dockworker crushed when someone overcorrected trying not to hit someone else, a train driver who had a seizure on duty, a ship’s crewmember who almost hadn’t made the ten-day window brought in right from the docks when they landed, and horribly, a child who’d fallen from a balcony.
I also saw an adventurer who’d been killed by a banshee, and whose party was absolutely terrified for them, a halfling named Azman. They were all about as new to adventuring as Maliah and Pika and I were in those first few weeks on Nosirion-1, when a spider or a weasel might have taken us out. The death had clearly shaken them all, and I tried to be as encouraging as I could and did the favor for them that Gaizka did for us and told them to seek out therapists while they’re on the station.
Maliah and I took them out for dinner and gave them some adventuring advice, which felt odd, since it feels like we’ve stumbled into everything we know, and I know I’m not good at one of the biggest questions they had, which is when to cut your losses and run from a fight instead of persisting. But still, we could tell them to spend as much on healing potions as they can afford, and advise them on what kinds of protection are the best investments we’ve managed. (I had a lot of good to say about my Amulet of Health, though I cautioned them it’s a long-term investment, since they’re expensive.) And Maliah reminded them that it’s very possible to seek out custom items for problems they keep running into, or phobias they’d like to avoid, like her own Amulet of Feather Fall.
It was a good reminder that we’re not always at sea and out of our depth, at least, before diving back into everything else.
Our temple service is wrapping up, so we went back to the library.
They had a little more information on Maliah’s historical research project on the Honorien Dominion—namely, how that empire collapsed. The planet was exploited of its resources (either it wasn’t very resource-rich in the first place, or they were consuming them at such a rate that it depleted them much faster than it should have), and this became obvious around the same time as a lot of war and corruption and social unrest. As the planet collapsed, so did the empire, and refugees left first in small groups and then in larger ones, settling here and there (quite likely splitting by pre-empire cultural lines, though that’s mostly surmise). So if Lindanas can find any records on them, I’d love that. Still nothing, though, on how their insignia ended up in the Feywild, much less how their banner ended up, in such good condition, with some hags.
The other questions, they’d had less time with. We’d asked, without much hope, about a more detailed map of the region of space Niko and the Procyon went through, but it’s not a location people are eager to map, so there doesn’t seem to be one.
On stars and talking to them, they could confirm that it’s part of enough legends that it’s almost certainly possible, and that probably we wouldn’t have to literally enter the flaming mantle of a star, but that it’s more a matter of an elemental, a personification of the star’s energy, that might be met on another plane or a pocket dimension or something similar. (Niko had mentioned, in our conversation last week, “metaphysical shenanigans” in somewhat tragic tones, and she seems to have been right.) Historical records that aren’t couched in metaphor as yet escape them, but they had a few more details about Ren’s legends of a fire elemental and a fey or elf (there are apparently versions of the story in Sylvan and in Elvish, and at their age it’s impossible to tell where they began).
The fire elemental was named Barhanakva, and seems to have interacted with one or several stars several times, returning something stolen from one, and either returning to it or finding another one who they either fought or bargained with and received help for the next stage of their quest. Translations get in the way there, and even Maliah’s knowledge of Ignan might not help too much, since it’s an archaic form of it.
The fey or elvish story is about a woman called Serianye, also called Starwalker, and it’s old and fragmented and inconsistent. She may have befriended a star, in a story cycle about stars going out or being hidden. She may have gone to the Ethereal Plane, the Astral Sea, or both. (I don’t know anything about the Astral Sea, but maybe it’s where you meet stars, and if so, I should really learn more quickly.) But there’s not much more remembered than that, unless one of the bardic colleges has it filed away in a dusty cabinet. (They’re reaching out to some of them for more stories, so maybe we’ll hear more.)
Everything feels so big we don’t know where to start—I can see why Maliah and Niko find the ingredients list more tempting, even if I still think the other two options are better plays right now. We’re going to try some research, and reaching out to a few more people and beings, and maybe an answer will come more clear that way. We’ve got an appointment with Daltri Bhavi as soon as we’ve sent Ren and Seb home, and I want to go to Kirim and talk to the Lady of Stars in one of her own temples, and Maliah has screwed up her courage and said that if Cernunnos is going to help, she thinks we’ll have to go to the Feywild for similar reasons. Daltri has outlived even elvish lifespans and might have heard some stories. The Lady of Stars is a traveler, and stars are under her domain anyway, so she may help on two fronts. Cernunnos is a tracker, and once we have a goal in mind, he may well be able to help us get there.
I suspect it’s going to be one of those situations where everything moves very slow and then so fast I hardly have time to warn you before I wander off somewhere terrifying, so consider this your warning that I may disappear without much notice any time while working on this.
We’ve also been talking to Gaizka this week, but I’m going to save that for my next letter—this one is running long, and I’m due at therapy again, so I’ll write again soon.
Love,
Elyn

Lights Up
Tumblr media
Sebastian Stan X Reader
18+ only, please! Warnings are language and alluding to sexual acts.
I made this one a bit short, but it felt warm and wholesome when I wrote it adding anything would have felt forced.
@wonderbreadbucky and I wish you warm holidays and hope you all have safe days!
A Very C and E Holiday (If you want to understand what this is for)
A Very Marvel Holiday
Tumblr media
“Come on,” You tugged his hand, squeezing it when he faltered, his head still tilted back to gaze up at the lights.
“When did you say you found this?” With one more tug, he moved with you, turning his focus on you and smiling.
You grinned back, slipping your fingers through his and humming as you pulled him along. “About a week ago? Most big light shows are closer to Christmas and since neither of us will be here,” Seb reached out to touch your hip, fingers curving over your waist and wrapping you into a hug from behind, “When Ren told me about this I went hunting for it — Voila!”
It’s nothing big.
A row of townhomes, a little aged and dipping into the side of needs-to-be-renovated, but with the display it made them charming — festive with the strings of lights all across the faces of them. You watched Seb’s eyes widen with each one you passed; his mouth opened on a silent ‘Wow.’
The neighbors came together to form a beautiful string of lights made to look like presents, light bulbs, trees, and other holiday symbols. It must have taken ages, but it was gorgeous.
Much as he was when the flash of green and red lit up his eyes.
It was rare for the two of you to find time during the Holidays. You wanted to do something special for him, for the season, and even though you’ll be in another time zone, working your ass off when the actual holiday hits — at least you could do this.
“They worked hard on this.” Seb squeezed your waist, “It’s amazing when people put effort like this into things.”
“I didn’t realize how long it had been since I enjoyed looking at Christmas lights.” It's true. You’d been busy the last few years, trying to spend your downtime with Seb instead of doing things like this.
It's nice.
Makes you feel warm inside as Seb points out the parts he likes when the lights flash, change into presents beneath a tree then candy canes hanging from the rooftops. He kept his arm around your waist, every now and then pressing his lips into your temple before the two of you moved along. When you came to the end of the row of townhomes he spun you into his arms. Hugging you into your chest, burying his face in the crook of your neck.
“Thank you.” You felt him smile.
"Of course." Seb held you, your own arms wrapping around you to hold him as close as you can.
Neither of you was a big holiday person. Your jobs made it impossible to make plans that you know you'll keep and both of you had families to spread out to meet for them.
This was something small, something small you were able to do for him and it filled your heart with warmth knowing he'd loved it.
“You want to go look at the tree?” He pressed his forehead into yours, rubbing his nose between your eyebrows, “Maybe get some hot chocolate and walk around some more? I know it's cold, but we could find some more lights.” He hummed as he swayed the two of you side to side, his arms tightening around you.
You thought about it, walking around New York, holding hands, and being able to spend time together — it was tempting.
“We could see if they’re still doing the caroling show?” You nudged his jaw, kissing the stubble and smiling when he hummed in agreement.
“Since when?” Seb laughed, short and cut off as you jerked your head up. “You want to sit on Santa’s lap, Stan?”
“It'd be fun, nice, I’d like to see if they’ve got the Santa set up finished.” You paused.
“Maybe. I don’t know, I might want to wish for something for Christmas.” He grins, tilting your chin up so he can kiss you. Something quick and warm. You melt into it, letting him tilt your head further back to feather his lips across your jaw.
“Oh-” You shove at his chest.
Seb pulled back, moving your scarf until it covered your neck again, his eyebrows furrowing together.
Your skin burning with embarrassment — how did you forget — “Seb, we, uh, may we do that stuff tomorrow, perhaps?”
He opened his mouth to respond, but you pressed your fingers against his lips, “I have something else for you.” His blue eyes softened, head tilting as his fingers tugged at your jacket.
“Babe-”
“It’s for both of us, really.” With a quick check of the surrounding people, making sure no one was looking, you grabbed his hand, took two of his fingers, and slid them into the waist of your jeans.
“Honey-” His eyes widened, fingers dipping further until he felt the lacy bow just over your- “All wrapped up like a delicious present, huh?”
Your cheeks burned, “There’s a little light over the bow.”
He blinks.
“And when you see the matching top-"
“TAXI!” Seb stepped back and waved his hand so fast he almost fell over the curb.

Happy Holidays you wonderful people! Small story time: I didn't grow up in a safe environment and Holidays were always at the back of my mind and I still struggle to remember they are meant to be about family and love.
I hope this week of ficmas from E and I can add a little bit of love and family into your Holidays!

I see you are not a fan of Sebastian anymore, and I have no problem with that. I do however think you are unfairly targeting him and his fans on your blog. A lot of villain characters are being romantacized as you say (Chris Evans’ character in Knives out, Loki from marvel, Mads Mikkelsen’s Hannibal, Kylo Ren and probably a lot of others I can’t remember), but you only talk about Seb’s characters. Similarly with the Pam & Tommy controversy, you never focus on any of the other productions doing the same (Elizabeth Olsen’s new project is even worse, Spencer is getting Oscar noms etc). I get that you may have good intentions, but by only focusing on Seb and Seb fans when you no longer are a fan of his it makes it seem like your problem is with him/them and not the actual issues. You are not being overly rude in how you express yourself or anything like that, it’s just the focus being only on Seb that is bothering me.
Hi anon,
While I don’t agree with what you’re saying, I want to thank you at least for being respectful and not outrightly just telling me to go eff myself, which is a lot of what I’ve gotten from others.
1: I am not targeting him at all. Right now, his projects are predominately talked about in the industry and I have them showing up in my feed constantly. If it bothers me, I’m going to say something about it. 90% of what I say is actually responding to asks and discussing others opinions rather than going out and spam posting about my own.
2: I don’t like romanticizing any villains and I’ve posted about that in the past. I talked about it a long time ago when the new Star Wars movies came out and everyone was fawning over Kylo Ren. But it’s unfair to hold that against me and say “well why aren’t you posting about blank blank and blank?” You haven’t followed me that long, I’m guessing, so please don’t assume you know everything I have talked about before.
3: I’ve spoken on Elizabeth Olsen’s new project, I’ve spoken about Spencer, I’ve spoken about Tom Holland’s Fred Astaire project and Chris Evans’s Gene Kelly one as well. Again, you can’t assume you know everything I’ve posted. I choose to speak on Pam & Tommy the most because as a survivor of abuse, it’s close to my heart. By speaking out against it, people have decided that I need to speak on every similar issue. I also have a job, a family and a life. I can’t spend my entire day on Tumblr.
4: My disliking of Sebastian now is due to projects he’s taken on. Had he not signed onto Pam & Tommy, I probably wouldn’t be saying much about him right now. I don’t dislike actors just to dislike them. He’s said some very shitty, narcissistic things recently regarding Pamela Anderson and her not giving consent for the show to happen, he thinks the he and the show are partially responsible for her speaking out and by doing so, he’s completely contradicted himself and all his “pro-feminist” statements. You could put Pedro Pascal or Oscar Isaac (my favorite actors) in that slot instead, and I’d be just as upset.
5: Over the past few months, I have seen nothing but death threats, suicide urgings, verbal abuse and pure vitriol from Seb fans directed at me and other users I know who have similar problems. I have nothing good to say about them and probably won’t anytime soon. My disliking of Fresh is one of the only times I’ve seen his fans be truly disgusting when romanticizing a villain. Fucking fantasizing about cannibalism? That’s next level shit.
All of that to say, my disliking of Seb is not without warrant or targeted. This site is chocked full of opinions and I’m as free as the next person to express mine. If you’d prefer not to see them, you’re welcome to unfollow or block and I won’t be offended. My thoughts aren’t for everyone.
(And before anyone comes at me, I use the tags to organize my blog. If you don’t like it, kindly scroll past it.)

How do MC's parents and brother react to mc getting with each of the ros? (also max's parents if that isn't too much since they know mc)
Hey! I'll start off by saying that in the first book, which will include freshman and sophomore year, MC's parents probably won't meet their partner. I think it only make since to introduce a significant other to the parents once the relationship is more serious.
Since MC's older brother Cameron lives in NYC he will probably meet them and then gossip with their parents about what he thinks. And as for Max's parents they will probably remain pretty indifferent since they have always shipped MC with Max. I'll go ahead and lay out Cameron's first impressions of the ROs after being introduced to them as MC's partner.
Roxanne/Robbie: Cameron is a bit cautious when it comes to Ro. They have a big charismatic personality, and honestly they're just electric. He isn't sure if they're to much for his younger sibling, he's definitely scared they could get hurt if it ends.
Joleen/Johnny: Jo seems really chill and sweet! Cameron finds there calm and caring demeanor charming and thinks they are cautious and take great care with MC.
Delphine/Desmond: De seems even more put together than Cam himself. He can tell they know how to lead in a relationship or otherwise. And he's happy to know that De is keeping MC well fed.
Rina/Ren: Cam can see that R is pretty reserved and they don't usually let people in. He can also see that they're trying really hard for MC, which he finds super endearing.
Everly/Everett: Cameron can't really get a good read on Eve. Are they naturally so over the top? Are their feelings for MC genuine? Maybe they're just naturally theatrical and they really do care. Only time will tell.
Karla: She seems very laid back, but also pretty attentive when it comes to MC. Cameron can't tell if she's just trying to keep things casual or if they're feelings for MC run a little deeper.
Faye: Faye is a ray of fucking sunshine... Her bubbly personality is simply overflowing! Cameron can see that she obviously cares for MC and is desperate to have their older brother's approval. Cam can also see how invested she is in MC and he's silently rooting for her.
Sebastien: As nice and mature as Sebastien may seem Cam just isn't so sure they will work out. Will Seb and MC last once his studies in NYC are over and he goes back to Paris? They seem great together, but Cam is extremely worried about an inevitable end between the two.
Maxine: He knew this was coming! Cam can't wait to tease the two of them relentlessly! Max is already like family and he knows that they'll work through any struggles together.
Silas: Cam isn't sure how to feel about his younger sibling dating their RA from freshman year. Yeah they both claim they didn't start dating till MC was a sophomore, but he isn't stupid they had to start somewhere. Cam is definitely gonna keep his eye on Silas and make sure his intentions with MC are pure.

Director’s commentary on /that/ epilogue. 👁👄👁How does it feel to hurt me this way? This is the reason I have trust issues Ren!!! 🥲
KSDKFKSDKF L ...... I'M SORRY .....
i will justify myself underneath the cut:
i just think that ultimately they're two very different people in very different times in their individual lives, and that attraction alone can't fuel an entire relationship. esp with charles' flakiness and seb's sort of ... intensity that he brought throughout? would've been disastrous if they stayed together (in the pale fire universe, ofc. they're free to go at it wherever else).
i also know that i personally adore iterations of "right person, wrong time". or even "wrong person, wrong time". there's something so :muah: about that dynamic, and in this case i just thought they fit it LKSKDFKSDF bc their relationship intrigues me so much! charles, permanently confused, set against sebastian's energy? they're SO STRANGE. i love them.
to be honest, i also struggled with writing a "happy ending" after putting them through the wringer like that. the charles i was writing was far too flaky to commit, and seb if anything was too quick to commit (hence the speedy engagement! man's in his 30s he can't wait!). i really did try giving them a good ending, but i found myself stuck for ages (hence the long wait to update) as to how to write them together.
but once i was like . okay maybe i don't have to set these unrealistic expectations and just write as realistically as possible, i felt as though a weight from my chest had been lifted and i was just able to write in an instant (and post on the same day!)
so yeah! i know that some people were unhappy by this ending, or felt as though seb's engagement was too unrealistic, but:
1. they are far too different from one another to be together for long (in my understanding, anyway)
and
2. ¯\_(ツ)_/

This week on @letterstosestrilles, Elyn and Maliah are having some serious qualms about their newest quest, Seb and Ren really did not sign up for this, and EMC’s murder list almost got longer for a minute there.
Tumblr media
It’s okay, the people who dared hurt their friends in their backstory were eventually taken care of.
Elyn’s letter this week is HERE, with supplement HERE, and her adventures begin HERE!
