I do both and absolutely agree with what was said above.

Different mediums get different kinds of engagement, specially if you only post on algorithm-heavy places like instagram or the dead bird site.

Art is easier for people to engage with less effort, so the engagement accrues quicker but also dies down quicker.

Writing takes time both to read and to engage with, so the engagement comes slower but may last longer.

If anyone reading this wants tips, my biggest tip is do not post with the goal to get "engagement". Post to build community. If you write fic, interact with other writers, they are readers too! If you make fanart, interact with other artists!

And focus your efforts on yourself more than on the algorithm, because if you chase the algorithm you will lose. Share old stuff (specially here! on the old-stuff-never-dies site! but on other places too!), don't be afraid to gush about a creator/piece you like on your blog!

And know that a like is still engagement. A kudos is still engagement. People often bang about wanting comments, but the quick engagement will always be given in higher quantity and has always been.

I've been in fandom for 20 years now, every like, every kudos CAME FROM A PERSON THAT YOUR WORK TOUCHED. REMEMBER THAT TOO.

Comments are AMAZING, but don't get discouraged if you only get likes/kudos for a while. Those were still people that saw your work and basically did <3 at you.

As a fic writer, my sense is that it's much easier for fan artists to get appreciation, but I wonder how artists and other writers feel about it. For people who do both, do you feel like you get better, more rewarding feedback for your art or your writing? (That may, of course, depend on which is your stronger skill.)

I know it’s been a while since I post so here’s some Hazbin art. I may upload some more Lucifer and Alastor stuff in the future. I honestly gave up on this because my app kept crashing so it’s kinda messy in some places and a bit all over the place.

This takes place after season 1. Lucifer is trying to heal Alastor’s wound and senses a foreign energy in him. Then a bunch of arguing later, he finds out that it’s Lilith. So, then it clicks for him as to why Alastor was/is at the hotel.

I’m currently working on a fic of it so if you’re interested in reading it, maybe I’ll continue it. I’ll just have to see how my motivation is. [,:

I do make ship art of them but as an aroace person, I don’t think I’ll be making any NSFW stuff of them because idk if I feel comfy about that. I’ll just see what I’m personally comfortable with in the future though! If I do, I will NOT be anything too graphic or intense because yeah, no.. the art that will be uploaded of them will mainly just be crack/chaotic art and fluffy, domestic stuff of them. Lol.

However, please do NOT attack me or any other shippers in reblogs or comments with the statement of us betraying the aroace community or something like that. I am Aroace myself and it’s hurtful to be told that by people who I share a fandom with. I am on a similar spectrum as Alastor and it’s very hard for me to develop those kind of genuine attractions but that doesn’t mean that myself or other aroace people are not capable of those things. I feel infantilised when I see non-aro and non-ace folk speaking up on our behalf. Just be respectful.

I have seen/read some NSFW stuff regarding that character where the artist does handle it with care and respect. I have seen others that.. well.. don’t do that. Lol.

If someone is being genuinely disrespectful toward my community then please say something but DO NOT harass people over simple domestic SFW fanart. Just be nice to people please!!!! I will turn off comments or remove the comments if you attack people over a ship. Know that I am NOT the final say either. This is my personal input and opinion and do not take this as gospel!)

1) I’m most proud of these pieces. I had low expectations but they turned out really well and are a couple of my favorites

Everyone did an amazing job! unrelated to EMD, I really enjoyed reading @cokoweee's kendratello comic. @chessman-protocol's covert au was another fun 2024 discovery. I also enjoyed seeing @pasteilian, @djpachipikachu, @quartergremlin, @xinrouska, @choiyw051108, and @andysuriano's art pop on my dashboard and learning more about @reagi-df's different aus @klunkcat's The Other Side of Paradise amv is worth mentioning bc it made me sad/pos I'm a sucker for angsty amvs so this is automatically one of my favorite things

I discovered @office-anomaly's blog. Tuheir scooby-doo fanart is so good! Kudos, I love ur art

I also discovered some fun communities closer to the end of the year, mainly Frogblr, where people just post pictures of frogs and it makes me so smiley

Drop early chapters of EYED / Dreamlike: This is a Moon-centric x reader fic I've been working on for several months now and I originally planned to start posting it when I finished it or got really close to doing so. I dropped a sneak peek of it here! I find myself currently on a standstill on it's later chapters, which is why it hasn't been finished yet, but otherwise I am reallllly happy with it's messaging and pacing. (Rn I have plotted out 15 chapters but it's looking like it could be longer with how I write oops-)

The first chapters have been pretty polished at this point, so if people are really curious about this one, I don't mind to start posting the chapters up to a certain point. If this wins, I'll post the first 3 chapters for 3 sequential days, then 4 and 5 will come out in the next week, and then the last week I'll post ch. 6 for no particular reason mhmm yup I am not planning anything nefarious-

Drawing requests: This would be my first time doing something like this, and while I know I can pop out some bangers for y'all I also don't want to dig myself into a hole and leave y'all waiting for a long time. 😅So if this wins, I'll take the first 10 requests and draw them out! If I feel capable of doing more I may open some more slots for y'all, but I need to test my speed and my capabilities here first. The AO3 polls about who writes more overall versus who wrote more in the last year made me remember a discussion I had with friends about a year out from finale: many of us were still SPN fans (always will be), but were more involved with other show fanarts because they were still active shows.

Not that many of my friend group totally left-left, but also as "satisfied customers" we just weren't feeling the need for fixit fics like people who disliked the ending had. I think that, more than some sudden change in perceptions, might be why numbers have shifted.

New viewers in the GA still pretty much seem to be reacting the same way as they always did.

New viewers who are super active on social media go into one "side" or the other to get clicks--and rage farming is the new normal on some sites.

I hope that some of us not being as noisy as we once were doesn't get us ignored. Again, for my group at least, we're quieter because we're (?) ok.

Right, Supernatural gave nothing to Destiel shippers, not even subtext. So they have to resort to mass producing fanfictions to fill the void.  Wincest shippers always brag how they don’t have to make up stuff from thin air or manip stuff because they get the on-screen goodies to sate their kinks and feed their imagination.   Last I heard Wincest has their own humongous archive outside of Ao3, not to mention the only ship mentioned by Mainstream Media is Wincest. (x)

From your experience it sounds like the more things change, the more they stay the same. You the Sam-leaning Bibro fans are the best representatives of the General Audience so you're always going to win. The rage farmers burn out sooner than later and have to move on to another moving target. The stubborn few that remain will be like the Spirk shippers (Kirk/Spock) trying to convince people that it was they who kept Star Trek alive years after cancellation when it was actually because of syndication and new generation of fans discovering the show.

Have you heard of the Spirk shippers doing what I just told you? Likely no. Even most Trekkies have to squint to find the Spirk shippers and there will be general fans going, “Wait, there are people who think there was a thing between Dean and the neutered gerbil?”

I don’t like Jean. I don’t hate him or dislike his character, I’m just indifferent. I have no attachment to him. I think it’s because I wasn’t in the fandom, I didn’t know his character was a huge fanon character. So I didn’t consume any of the fic or fanart. I was totally caught off guard that he was a character getting his own series. He didn’t super stand out to me in the original books.

Even reading TSC I was just like eh. I guess I just don’t find him compelling or interesting yet. And I feel like whenever I look at fan content a lot of it (not all) is babying him? Which I know happens to a lot of characters so it’s not just specific to him. Idk it’s just hard to get into his character. Even in moments where his trauma was revealed I found myself not really connecting? I was sympathetic but I have no investment in him as a character outside of the trauma that it’s just like ‘damn that’s rough bro.’ Which could be by design since as a character he’s not had time to be a full person with substance or anything as he was so put down in the nest. So maybe that’s why? Agghhhh idk.

It seriously might change when I read book two. I don’t want to piss anyone off with this confession, I just kind of want to share since I haven’t seen anyone feel the same way. Most people seem to super love his character, and I would love to feel the same. He could just not be the kind of character I’m into. Nora is a great writer, I love her books and obviously I’m going to read the next two happily. I just think his heavy trauma isn’t enough to make me care about his character. Neil and a lot of the other characters have heavy trauma but that’s not why I was invested in them, it’s because they had interesting personalities. Perhaps Jean’s personality will come out more in book two, or I’ll just spend more time with his character and get a better grasp on it. I’d love to hear other people’s opinions on him as a character.

So, as the title says, because I was thinking about this - I love this manga with all my heart as you very well know, and the main reason I started translating is because I wanted more engagement in the fandom, which was pretty much dead. Well, it still kind of is, which brings me here lol

I tried to keep this blog translations only to keep everything more in order and make it easy to find the various chapters and all, and I kept all my theories and ramblings either in the tags or on my main blog, except for the times I got asks.

But I would love for this fandom to be more active! I wanna talk about theories and headcanons and ships and all that! I want this fandom to start living again :')
