Excerpts from my WIPS ;3 Guess Which story and when- or if its a story even up. If ya want.
----DPxDC
“Keep communication lines on, we'll be moving towards your location.” Batman had replied, which made Nightwing clicked his teeth. “How much should I bet you're not going to do that?” Dick turned to ask Jason as both of them hopped off the bike. “Do what? I didn't hear anything.” “Okay, so a hundred at least.” Nightwing hummed, as he followed Red-Hood back towards the abandon lab.
----DPxDC
"-One time she sent DASH! To babysit ME! I'm older than both of them now. Y'know how awkward that was? Though the look on Dash's face was hilarious.” Dick smirked, raising a brow. “The guy that bullied you? Why did she ask him?” “Ah, probably because he's a puppy that'll do whatever my sister asks. She knows it too.” Danny clicked his tongue as his face grimaced at the implications of it. “I may or may not have... scared him a few times. I do like a disappearing act.” Dick grinned as he could imagine what Danny meant. He did seem to take any form of “keeping tabs” on him as a challenge. Danny smirked back, a mischievous glint in his eye, before dropping his face. “Jazz was REALLY upset about it. I had assumed this was her being overbearing and protective like usual-I didn't realize how hard this was on her.” The guilt thick in his throat. “She broke down crying and.. I promised her I'll stay out of the house when she's not home. 'Cause I didn't know what to do.. or say. I just..” “Thought of the easiest solution?” “Yeah... I guess.” Danny shrugged, defeated.

“Tsk, tsk, tsk. Shouldn't you be resting, sir?” Alfred scolded. A small amused smirk on his lips as he carried lunch on a tray. Bruce just made a grunt. His eyes glued to the screen of the laptop. Images, news articles, videos. Whatever he could find was displayed on the screen, while he bit at the end of his pencil. A notepad next to him. “Ah yes, very informative answer, Master Bruce.” Alfred set down the tray on the nightstand beside his bed. There was more than just lunch on the tray as it carried a medical kit. Bruce sighed. He shoved the laptop to the side and struggled to sit up more so Alfred could replace his dressing. “This whole situation just crawls under my skin.” “I say it does, sir.” Alfred's hands move quickly to help replace the doctor's handy work. “Secret government organization, children in peril, and the boarder between life and death getting thinner by the day. Certainly sounds like a recipe for disaster.”
---------BULLY
Pete glanced back up at Mr. Smith. The man was eyeing him carefully, waiting for a reply. He must care about Gary in some way to go through this much trouble, right? And... it would be easier to contact Gary's grandfather than dealing with the headmaster. Pete bit his lip as he thought. “Um, Okay. S-sure.” “Atta boy! Hahaha!” Allen laughed as he smacked his hand on Pete's shoulder, making him stumble. Pete really needed to work on not being pushed around so easily. “Though, if you can mange to keep little Garreth in line, I'll add in a little bonus for your trouble. Since you're doing more than half what I was paying this damn school to do.” “That's not-” “Some good advice. Never work for free, Pete. Consider it a token of gratitude. After all, I think we both know watching my grandson isn't an easy task.” Allen winked.

Tim had no idea how he was going to pull this off. His eyes glancing from the Fenton parents to the boy he met yesterday, Danny Fenton. He knew he was dead. At least, was ghostly in some way. Danny didn't act or looked how Greta did, but Greta was visible as Deadman wasn't. So perhaps ghosts varied drastically? Either way, Danny being dead wasn't even the part that was bothering him. It was knowing he had to pretend he didn't know- while Danny sat right next to his oblivious killers. Well, the word killer might be too harsh. Tim theorized it was an accident regarding with a portal that opened on top of Danny. Which might also explain Danny's unique qualities.
---------DPxDC
“...Danny has traces of... Lazarus pit... stronger than yours.” Tim answered, with a concerned tone. They were afraid of how Jason would take it. And Jason was not taking it well, as he felt cold rage deep in his veins. The icy chill as he acknowledged that not only was Danny his blood... he shared the worse part of his blood. The reminder that they... Had died. Those scars... that was how Danny died and so far knowing their luck, he doubted it was painless. “Little Wing? Jay bird? You there, I'm almost at your location. How's Danny?” Dick called on the comms. Jason pulled the boy more into his jacket, giving him the best attempt of a hug he could. “Better than the fuckers who did this to him will be.”
------DPXDC
Danny had made an unfortunate discovery. His powers, like all ghosts, were based on emotion. Other's emotions. Even worse, the strongest one was fear. Fear fed on itself and grew stronger and stronger. And what made him discover this, made his heart sink with dread. He was stuck powerless in Gotham as his friends were laughing themselves to death along with other hostages in the room. Danny cursed at himself for listening to Sam. He should have phased them out of there, regardless of Batman's no meta rule. Now the only fear emitting into the room was his own. They were too far from others for him to feed off of, and ectoplasm was low. No.. more like the ectoplasm was being pulled away from the ground of Gotham and seeping into some other being that was far too greedy. “Well, well, well~ Look what we have here? A little party pooper!” A man with green hair and clown painted face cackled, as he waltz his way over to Danny. The black-hair teen ripped his eyes from his friends, glaring at the man. He gritted his teeth and clenched his fist, while he stayed knelt over his friends. “Funny, most parties I've seen at least has music.” Danny was feeling sweat dripping off his face. He needed to do something fast, but if he couldn't transform.. then he wasn't sure what else he isn't able to do. Not like this man looked fit, but... Danny knew danger when he sees it. “Ah, but this is music! To my ears at least, ehehehehe!”
----------CAMP CAMP
“Ah. Smell that, Gwen?” “Smell what.” “That fresh breeze! We had gone a full twenty-four hours without a single camp activity catching on fire.” “Huh, I guess you're right! This camp only smells half as shitty-” “Where's Max?” Both Gwen and David utter out in realization as it had dawn that neither of them had seen the troublesome trio since breakfast. --- “Don't worry Max! We'll save you once I finish chewing off my leg-” “Nikki! DON'T!” “Well... I'm fucked.”

Well now you gotta let us know your thoughts on Hawk/Tim puppyplay
!!! love you anon, so much !!! here's Tim's lamb + some other items and photos
Is it a way for Hawk to take more control? yeah, a bit. But is it more so about Tim letting go and being more comfortable with himself? Abso-fuckin-lutely.
I project a little onto Tim, and I HC him being very unsure and over-conscious of his movements, like his physical bodily movements, he's over-aware of anyone's eyes on him to the point he thinks "Am I walking normal? what do I do with my hands? is this a weird way to stand?" It's super fun- I've settled on "Skip" being Tim's pup name :3
Also I'd like to say a super special THANK YOU to @lispenard-street for beta-reading this fic for me!!! Literally every piece of input you had was gold and the absolute correct thing to do, not to mention all the super kind words you had for me even though the draft was in shambles when you first saw it lmfao- So thank you, Gem💚

Fetch
Hawk was consumed in drafting a small speech for a function Senator Smith had organized —something about acknowledging McCarthy's threat to the State Department but encouraging diplomacy— when Tim showed up on his doorstep looking like a kicked puppy. His boy promised that he would be quiet and that all he needed was to be somewhere safe while he felt this way. With a beat of hesitance, Hawk let him in, slightly worried no work would get done. Hawk really has no clue how telling a bunch of grown men and women to essentially stand down will do any good for the department, but he'd rather chop off his own hand than go against Senator Smith.
Tim’s head feels light and full of syrup-damp cotton. He’s quite familiar with this feeling, having been experiencing it for some years; the swirling, strangling, suffocating need to serve and submit. But it’s all different now, knowing that he has someone he can relinquish himself to. Knowing he can let his mind float away and still be safe regardless of whatever may happen around him.
His tongue is wet and heavy behind his teeth, forcing him to swallow the excess spit before it drips past his stress-chewed lips. A warm buzz tingles across every inch of his skin and radiates through his insides; the feeling settles somewhere in his hips and weakens his knees, joints threatening to buckle beneath his weight. The urge to sink to the floor right on Hawk’s doorstep nearly wins but he has just enough sense left in him to know that it would get the door shut in his face.
Instead, he takes a couple wobbly steps across the threshold and into the foyer before giving in to the downward pull and sinking to his knees on the hearth rug that poses as a welcome mat. Tim struggles with bumbling, pawing hands to strip himself of his clothes, only managing to shake out of his coat and claw at the already loose knot of his tie before he lets his hands drop to his lap in defeat. Head swimming, lungs unable to draw in enough air, he looks up to the man standing in front of him, asking —begging— for help with watery eyes, throat resistant to form any sound other than a pitiful whine.
Hawk smiles and gently peels away the layers of Tim’s human facade: tweed, cotton, tortoiseshell, and gold all in turn. Replacing it with leather and brass, unbinding his pup from responsibility and expectation, letting him be raw and sensitive here where Hawk can protect him—can be the soothing balm to all his scrapes and burns caused by the world.
With a finger hooked in the D-ring of Tim’s collar, Hawk leads his pup into the living room. A little bit of fussing over Tim’s blanket, a brief pitstop at his desk to fetch Tim’s little white lamb, and a soft yet firm command of “Down. Settle, Skip,” later; Hawk redirects his attention back to his speech —leaving his little pup to play at his feet—  intent on making good progress tonight. So he's got a pencil in his hand and three sheets of paper —two already full of his scrawling, thankfully— on an old book in his lap. He's not sitting at his desk for this —his back hurts too damn much— but instead is reclining on the low couch on the opposite wall.
                                                          ===
Tim nudges his little white lamb into Hawk's lap, propping his chin on the older man's robe-covered knee, huffing and whining when his handler doesn't immediately look at him. The sweet noise catches Hawk's attention immediately, quickly switching his focus to Tim's pouting lips and glimmering eyes instead of the stark white pages.
Those big doe eyes shine with a playfulness that has Hawk's heart seized with warmth and affection for the young man.
He’s just a boy, Hawk marvels.
Tim had been quietly playing by himself on his rust orange tartan blanket at his handler's socked feet, manipulating the soft toy with his hands and rubbing his cheek against the fluff of its fur, nipping at the tiny ears and tail. But that gets boring after a while, and Hawk hasn’t so much as reached down to pet him in the last twenty minutes.
A break might do Hawk some good— his eyes are starting to sting anyway.
"Wanna play, huh?" Hawk sets the pencil and makeshift writing pad aside, picking up the small plush and shaking it in front of Tim's face. A laugh bubbles up from his chest as Tim presses his chest forward against Hawk's shin and snaps at the toy, teeth clacking together when a soft, felt hoof gets close to his nose. Maybe he'll catch it one day but today isn't that day.
"Get it, boy." With one last flick of the toy in Tim's face, Hawk tosses the cotton-stuffed lamb across the living room and into the kitchen hall; he had moved the chair that usually sits in the center of the room over, giving his pup room to play while he worked. Hawk is thinking of making this furniture configuration permanent, always allowing Tim to slip down to the floor and be 'Skip' with nothing in his way when his boy’s mind starts to shift and slide to one more canid.
This is a fairly new addition to their play, fetch. It still feels odd to crawl on the floor in nothing but his briefs and collar; bright sconces of the kitchen hall leaving him nowhere to hide. Tim feels a bit exposed, as though his most vulnerable parts are bared for Hawk to scrutinize from his comfortable perch. The skin of his face, chest, and back flush a rosy shade of pink knowing Hawk is watching him.
Hawk rakes his eyes down Tim's body, a ball of heat beginning to wind and coil low in his belly. With a slight readjustment of his robe and briefs, Hawk makes sure to conceal his growing erection, knowing that's not what his puppy needs right now.
Tim clambers his way across the living room, palms and knees softly thumping on the hardwood floor as he chases his lamb. The nickel tag clipped to his collar jingles with each plodding step. He's not going to humiliate himself by trying to trot after it —he knows he'll fall flat on his face— but he's learned that Hawk wants him to crawl instead of get up and walk. Dogs don't walk upright, Skip. Down, boy.
Once Tim reaches his beloved lamb, he dips down to grab it between blunt teeth. Jaws clamped down on the soft fabric, Tim shakes it side to side like a terrier with a rat or a Beagle with a rabbit: mauling it before bringing it back to his owner for a reward. His hair falls into his eyes as he does so, obscuring his glasses-less vision even more when he turns his attention to Hawk, panting softly, searching for that warm smile he's always trying to draw out of his handler. The one that lets Tim know he's doing good.
He gets it, a sharp show of teeth, the highest value reward Hawk could ever give.
"Bring it here, Skip. Come on." Hawk encourages, patting the top of his thigh to beckon his pup back to him. He loves when his boy turns into his pup, the thorns of defiance and questioning stripped away to sweet, silent submission. Hawk wouldn't change Tim's inquisitive mind and crashing emotions for anything, but it's nice not having to be on his toes, waiting to be thrown off-kilter by a question he hasn't allowed himself to think about.
Tim ducks his head as he crawls back to Hawk, still a bit too aware of the position his body is in. Hawk had said he likes the way Tim's shoulders flex and strain as he lumbers across the floor on all fours. The memory of Hawk growling those words in his ear while the older man's hands squeezed and kneaded the muscle in Tim's arms prompts Tim to pause once his hands hit the scratchy circular rug. He slides them forward to stretch out in front of himself, chest nearly brushing the floor, fingers clawing at the rug, intentionally tensing his shoulders to make the muscles ripple and cord beneath his skin. Arching his back like a dog who just woke up. His collar tightens around his throat as he does so, biting into his skin, leaving the faintest mark for later.
Satisfied with the shaky sigh and chuckle Hawk lets out, Tim straightens back up to finally bring the toy back to his handler, a little more confidence in his stride. His tag jingles a little louder now. Depositing the lamb in Hawk's open palm, Tim sits back on his haunches, ready to chase and retrieve the toy again, willing to bare himself for as long as Hawk will grant.
"Good boy, Skip." Hawk praises, free hand ruffling through Tim's hair, pausing to gently scratch behind his pup's ear the way Tim loves. "Always such a good puppy for me."

Again thank you so SO much for beta-reading this for me, Gem, you're the best!!

Robin III: Cry of the Huntress #3: Dosvedanya, Baby
Read Date: July 04, 2023 Cover Date: February 1993 ● Writer: Chuck Dixon ● Penciler: Tom Lyle ● Inker: Robert Allen Smith ● Colorist: Adrienne Roy ● Letterer: Timothy Harkins ● Editor: Denny O’Neil ●
Tumblr media
**HERE BE SPOILERS: Skip ahead to the fan art/podcast to avoid spoilers
Reactions As I Read: ● in case we ever forget Robin is in his early-mid teens 😂 hell, though, I’d act exactly the same way even now if I was as sleep-deprived as he is
Tumblr media
● 👏👏👏👏
Synopsis: After being confronted by his school counsellor, Ms. Hollingsworth, about his bruises and injuries, Tim Drake is forced to come up with an excuse so that her suspicions aren't focused on his mentor and friend Bruce Wayne. Under pressure, he lies and claims it was a senior classman who has beaten him up, and agrees to go through a student roster to identify his bully the next morning.
Feeling the weight of his secret identity and the dishonesty it requires on his shoulders, Tim confides in the mute Harold Allnut deep in the Batcave. When he returns home to Drake Manor, his father questions him about the apparent fight that gave Tim his bruises, and Tim is forced to lie again.
Additionally, his father has concerns about the amount of time Tim spends at Wayne Manor, feeling some jealousy at the fact that in his current state, he can't be there for his son as much. Tim tries to explain that there's nothing to worry about, but confronted with his issues about his secret identity again, he simply storms off. He worries that he can't keep his secret much longer.
Elsewhere, King Snake trains against the Ghost Dragons. After he defeats them all, he receives a report from Lynx indicating that their territory is being encroached upon by a new Russian gang employing the dangerous KGBeast. King Snake vows to take the KGBeast down himself, retaining his title as 'most dangerous assassin.' That night, Robin arrives late to his meeting with Huntress, who reveals that the Russians belong to an organization called the Hammer, whose scare tactics are keeping information about them scarce. Their discussion is interrupted by a man who reveals that he and the other Russians of Little Odessa had fled Russia to escape the Hammer. His disgust for the organization leads him to help the vigilantes, and give up the Hammer's location.
Robin and Huntress take the aggressive approach, and Tim works out some of his frustrations by knocking heads. They work their way inside a casino, and are forced to fight nearly all of its patrons before Tim notices one of the same hoods who kidnapped Ariana Dzerchenko after her father was murdered. Robin gives chase, and manages to knock the thug to the ground. When he asks about Ariana, though, he is told that she was killed. His anger rises, and Huntress arrives just in time to prevent him from crossing a line. Frustrated, Robin simply runs away.
Elsewhere, the commissar of the Hammer orders that one of his men go to Amsterdam for a special project, while Lynx questions the thug that Robin took down moments before. King Snake is intrigued by the audacity of the Hammer's plans, and takes it upon himself to commandeer the plan for his own ends, leaving Lynx to kill the snitch as she pleases.
The next morning, Tim wakes up late, and is horrified to discover that he has a huge black eye that he'll have to explain to Ms. Hollingsworth once he gets to school.

216. Sonic the Hedgehog #148
Tumblr media
Hey, nice cover art! For those who aren't familiar, it's drawn using the same style as the art from the little-appreciated Gameboy Advance game Sonic Battle. It's always interesting when the comics imitate the art style of one of the games for a little while as a kind of lowkey advertisement.
The Good, the Bad & the Unknown (Part Three): Genesis
Writer: Ken Penders Pencils: Steven Butler Colors: Jason Jensen
We open not in the underground facility where all the action is taking place, but in Knothole, as Dylan delivers a message to Sally about how the Freedom Fighters haven't been answering any communications for the past hour. Oh, hey, Dylan, long time no see! We haven't seen the members of the Substitute Freedom Fighters in a while, now that I think about it. Shame, I always liked them. Anyway, Sally is highly concerned upon hearing of the loss of contact, and orders Dylan to bring Sonic's father Jules to the court immediately. Back in the facility, Tommy rushes off to find a way to help Rotor, Bunnie, and Fiona while leaving Tails behind to man the monitor room. Tails finds Sonic on the monitors, who is currently lying winded on the ground where he fell after the floor dropped. He hears a loud rumbling, and hops up in time to dodge an incoming train car, since it turns out he landed on some tracks for an underground rail system. Shadow isn't far behind, approaching Sonic rapidly, but Sonic decides he's going to turn the tables and fight on his own terms, hopping onto one of the passing cars (which is really more like a high-tech mine cart than anything). Shadow stops, catching up to Metal Sonic and Isaac and wondering why Sonic would use the train car to travel if he can run faster than it at his highest speeds, and neither of the two robots have an explanation.
Tumblr media
I think that's literally the first time anyone in the entirety of the comic so far has actually acknowledged out loud that Robotnik is just Kintobor backwards. I mean, it's kind of obvious if you look at the name for more than two seconds, but no one's ever actually said it. While this is going on, Tommy arrives at the corridor where the other three teammates are being electrocuted, and searches around frantically for a way to save them without getting caught in the electricity himself. After finding a random leather glove, he hits a circuit box, hoping it will help.
Tumblr media
This is where things get a little jumbled. Tails finds Sonic on the monitors, as well as the two pursuing robots close behind him, and becomes fascinated by the conversation that Metal Sonic and Isaac get into. Their conversation continues in the background of the next several pages, so instead of trying to describe it interspersed with the rest of the action I'll just summarize it here. Isaac explains that he was created by one Dr. Ivan Kintobor, who was born in 2006 - yes, our 2006, only a few decades before the Xorda dropped the gene bombs on Earth. Ivan anticipated the Xorda's genocidal response to the capture and dissection of one of their own by the humans, so he designed Isaac to be able to function in a post-apocalyptic environment before sealing himself away in a stasis pod. Isaac bore firsthand witness to the results of the gene bombs, which, contrary to their intention to kill all humans without disturbing the planet's ecosystems, threw tons of volcanic ash and dust into the atmosphere, transforming the planet's surface forever. As mentioned before, this was the first "Day of Fury" recorded by the echidnas, and over the next thousand years, humans devolved into the Overlanders we know today (though how losing one finger and nothing else counts as "devolving" I have no clue), while their residual DNA mixed with that of various ordinary animals, who consequently had their own evolution accelerated into Mobiankind. When Ivan, from his pod, learned that societies were emerging from the newly-created Mobian species, he ordered Isaac to chronicle important historical events of the planet in addition to scientific data. Not long after the sun finally burned through the rest of the ash and dust in the air, the energy from the gene bombs, having finally absorbed deep into the planet's crust, reacted with beryl deposits to create… the Chaos Emeralds! Yes, interestingly enough, this is the backstory of the Chaos Emeralds in the comics. But wait, remember how Sonic encountered red Chaos Emeralds on another planet during Tossed in Space? All I can imagine from that is that Earth must not have been the first planet the Xorda used their gene bombs on - it makes sense, as the other species of the galaxy are clearly terrified of them for some reason - and thus, there are slightly different versions of Chaos Emeralds on other planets that the Xorda have targeted before.
Anyway, Isaac explains all this to Metal Sonic as Sonic continues to ride his train car to get away from Shadow and the two robots. He tries to contact Tails for help, but Tails is caught up in listening to the impromptu history lesson over the monitors, and thus Sonic is attacked from behind by Shadow. He manages to throw him off by abruptly stopping his car, and abandons the vehicle while Shadow is still stunned from the impact to run down another side corridor, shutting the door behind him. Rotor, also listening to the audio feed as he, Bunnie and Fiona race to meet up, asks Tails if he's recording this, but Tails doesn't have time to figure out if he can download a recording form the computers' systems, as Shadow is quickly approaching Sonic's hiding place.
Tumblr media
The three finally meet up, and Shadow directs them to the door Sonic has taken refuge behind, trying to deadlift it open. Isaac says frankly that if Sonic has gone in that particular room, he's dead, but Shadow replies that Sonic tends not to die even in the face of otherwise-mortal danger, lifting the door and calling in that he just wants to talk. Wait, what? Shadow, this entire time you've been beating on Sonic for no good reason, and now you want to try to talk things out? Sonic is clearly as skeptical as I am, immediately darting out to hit Shadow in the face once his hiding place is discovered, but at that moment everyone is distracted by an ominous new sight - the room Sonic was hiding in is in fact a gigantic launch base for a missile, whose thrusters have just fired… Wait, now I'm even more confused! How the hell did Sonic hide in that room for a good minute without somehow noticing the huge flaming missile behind him?! Ah, whatever, this is Penders, we already know his stories don't make much sense.
Playing Around
Writer/Pencils: Nelson Ribeiro Colors: Jason Jensen
Time for some more silly stuff! Apparently, the Freedom Fighters (along with a few other of their allies) have decided to put on a play for some of the younger children of Knothole, about one of their missions against Eggman. Sally isn't in the play, leading Rosie to question who will be playing her if not, well, her, but Sally just giggles and tells her to wait and see as Sonic and Tails come out to welcome the kids to their play. Before Sonic can even get his final words out a spiked mitt emerges from behind the curtain to drag him backstage, and we see none other than Knuckles in an auburn wig and blue vest and boots, furiously reminding Sonic that the only reason he's doing this is for the kids, and otherwise he would be clobbering Sonic into the ground right now for even suggesting this crazy scheme. Oh, boy, this should be good…
So, who exactly is playing who in this production? It opens with Knuckles-Sally in "her" room in Knothole, when Geoffrey, played by Bunnie, arrives to warn of an impending attack on the castle. Knuckles-Sally, barely able to contain his disdain for this whole affair, uses Nicole, played by Archimedes, to call Uncle Chuck for help, but just then, Eggman, played by Big the Cat, and Snively, played by Tails, burst in and capture the two to roboticize them. Wait, if Tails is playing Snively, then who is playing Tails? Why, Rotor of course, being laboriously held aloft by ropes controlled by Jules, Mighty, and Espio from the rafters. He and Sonic (played by, well, Sonic - guess we know who got the most preferential treatment during casting) are relaxing in Knothole when Uncle Chuck, also played by himself but sporting various kitchenware all over his body to suggest a roboticized form, rushes in to warn them of Knuckles-Sally's capture. Rotor-Tails flies Sonic to Robotropolis, where the two prepare to attack Eggman, Snively, and a shadow-bot played by Vector. Also, we get some convenient sound effects, courtesy of Amy Rose!
Tumblr media
With Knuckles-Sally rescued, Sonic embraces "her" and goes in for a kiss, and well, let's just say he's really in the spirit of the role, with Knuckles having to warn him away from actually kissing him through clenched teeth, that is unless he's ready to redeem that promise of a clobbering. Oh, come on Knuckles, we all remember how you said quite a few issues ago how you didn't want to have to deal with girls and would rather only hang around boys - accept your gay side, my dude! Smooch that 'hog!
Destiny's Child
Writer: Ken Penders Pencils: Tim Smith 3 Colors: Jason Jensen
Tim Smith… 3? I'm so confused by this name. Do they perhaps mean Tim Smith III, as in, he's the third person in his family named Tim Smith? Or is there just a hidden cloning facility in the back of the Archie Comics headquarters that occasionally churns out extra Tim Smiths to draw for random issues of their comics?
Tails is hanging out alone by a pond at the outskirts of Knothole Village one afternoon, and it turns out that though he's kept quiet about it, he's extremely frustrated at the knowledge that even though his parents are alive somewhere on the other side of the galaxy, no one seems to be rushing to actually go and rescue them. Suddenly, Athair's disembodied head appears floating in front of him, speaking cryptically about how the hour of the Chosen One draws near or whatever. Tails isn't impressed, and confronts him about the whole Chosen One thing, that by now multiple different people have talked to him about it and he was even kidnapped and held hostage for months by Mammoth Mogul over it, yet no one will actually tell him what this supposed prophecy even refers to. He asks if everyone knows about this but him, and honestly, I don't blame him one bit for being upset - not even us readers know what the hell the prophecy is all about, and we're normally given behind the scenes info like, all the time!
Tumblr media
Oh, about time someone informs Tails that he has other family still left on the planet! Seriously, this kid has believed he was an orphan all his life, and yet Merlin never thought to, you know, contact him and reassure him he still had an uncle? Athair recounts the exact hostage situation with Mogul from before, how it occurred when Tails was in transit to help Knuckles back then, and Tails waves him off, saying that Sonic already told him everything that happened while he was captured. He demands an explanation, but Athair simply fades from view, leaving him frustrated and alone by the water once more. However, Athair's voice echoes back to him after a moment, urging him to be patient, as soon he'll finally know what all this is about… and about time, too, this has been going on since literally the first era of the comic with no resolution in sight.

1 and ShadowSilver -- Reading
Tumblr media
1: What are you reading, my dear?
ShadowSilver: Oh, just something about fairy tales and old mythology and Christianity. ❤️
1: Fairy tales, huh? Mythology and Christianity?
ShadowSilver: Yeah. Something you would like, about the mythology of Jesus (The Father) and much more legend.
1: Hmm... *holds ShadowSilver and kisses the back of her head, then hugs her* 💕
ShadowSilver: *giggles and continues reading* 💕
1: I like when you read about Christianity. It talks about leadership, like how I would lead our people.
ShadowSilver: *smirks* Oh, father...
1: *smiles sweetly* ❤️
ShadowSilver: *smiles back*💕
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Welp, I am EVEN more tired and now I want to sleep now. Kidding, but will soon ^^.
So later this evening I decided to draw another father/daughter moment artwork, and yet again (as always ^w^), it's 1 and ShadowSilver! Here's ShadowSilver reading about fairy tales, mythology and Christianity, and 1 came across her, feeling good about his daughter reading as they both shared a father/daughter moment<3💕
I boosted up my coffees to keep myself awake (sometimes don't work, but I got really pumped up some other time, mind me XD) to even do something ^^. I usually get tired really easily ^^;. I was working on a film or my virtual school and trying to figure out animation ^^. It would be like a 2D animated anime((ish) because I would be bad with lips syncing ^^) film ^^.
I'm sorry if 1 looked really bad in my style lol ^^;. I will be working on the machines tomorrow as the sketches (maybe two of them <D!!!)
Hey, speaking of reading, I did however read Windfall by Jennifer Smith. It's actually beautiful and really good. Sometimes I would be more into fantasy literature, tbh ^^. I did get more Harry Potter books from school (I needed three of them left (The Cursed Child is included)). I also read Artimus Foul, and it's good. I might think about watching the film^^. I read the manga Jojo Vol. 1, it was good, now I need Vol. 2 ^u^. I'll read Restart and I am in a process of reading Forever Neverland, which is good so far^^. I never (have not yet) seen the film Disney's Peter Pan. I might have to after reading the book <3. I did watch Tinkerbell when I was way younger, and it's my childhood (plz don't judge me) <3💕
I might have to think about getting The Lord Of The Rings books along with the Hobbits (I believe they have the books(?) I don't remember:/)
Alright, enough of the LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG description, what y'all think?
If you could spend a week anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? Would you take anyone with you? I’d take @duoloopo to the UK. I’d like to see places other than London.
What is your preferred writing implement? (eg. Blue pen, pencil, green pen)  I use my iPad stylus the most, but I have this heavy mechanical pencil I really like for drawing.
Favourite month and why? October. I just love the fall vibe.
Do you have connections to any celebrities (even minor)? List them. I went to undergraduate school with Rebecca Sugar. We used to ride the bus between NYC and DC together on holidays.
Name 3 items you could pick up from where you are. Can of seltzer, pencil case, stack of bills
What brand logo is closest to you currently? REAL Skateboards
Do you ever play board games or other non-computer games? Got any favourites? I love Small World and Munchkin.
A musical artist you love that isn’t well known Laura Stevenson and the Cans
A musical artist you love that is well known Red Hot Chili Peppers
What is your desktop background currently? Thomas Barrow on the beach in the Season 4 Christmas Special
Last person you talked to, and through what you talked to them @duomaxwell02 with my face :O
First colour name you can think of that isn’t in the rainbow White
What timekeeping devices are in the room you are currently in? Two wall clocks, though one is very old and doesn’t wind anymore. I also have a clock @duoloopo ‘s dad made for me. It’s on the piano.
What kind of headphones do you use? JBL Bluetooth, noise canceling
What musical artists have you seen perform live? Foo Fighters (3x), Incubus (3x), Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, Audioslave, Justin Timberlake, Troy Sivan, Arctic Monkeys, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Queen (but with Roger Daughtry, not Freddy... for obvious reasons.). Probably a whole bunch of others I’m blanking on.
What gaming consoles do you or your family own? PS4, PS2, PS1, XBox 360, N64, Gamecube, Wii, NES, SNES, various Gameboys, Nintendo DS, PSP
What pets do you have? What are their names? Two cats, Hemingway and Renji
What’s the best job you’ve ever had? I like freelance art gigs the best. As for ‘normal people jobs’, I once was a sign painter for Whole Foods. That was pretty fun, minus the work drama.
What’s the worst job you’ve ever had? Food service.
What magazines do you read, if any? I’ll pick up Time once in a while
Inspiration behind your URL? My classic original URL was LinkWorshiper and had been since AIM first existed. I picked it because Zelda was the first fandom I ever joined. Now I’ve changed all my handles (except on AO3) to reflect my actual name, as my literary agent thinks it’s more professional.
Inspiration behind your blog title? Mean Girls. I always chuckle imagining Thomas and Jimmy as some Edwardian version of the Plastics.
Favourite item of clothing? My Downton livery waistcoat. And the stiff bosomed shirt and collars I have to go with it.
Are you friends with any exes? Nah. By the time I felt comfortable enough to possibly try, I also didn’t care enough to.
Name at least one book you loved as a child. His Dark Materials (the trilogy by Philip Pullman). I still love them and am jazzed that he’s writing more these days.
What’s your native language? If that language has distinct regional variations, which variation? (eg. AU English, US English) US English, mostly a northeastern dialect/accent
What email service do you use? Gmail
Is there anything hanging on the walls of the room you are currently in? So much stuff. I have a mood board full of Downtons stuff over my desk, various DA posters and memorabilia, plus some artwork I’ve done, and some of my JC Leyendecker collection. The aforementioned wall clocks, a San Francisco cable car bell, Sailor Moon and a few other little knickknacks, like my hamsa. To name a few lol.
What’s your favourite number, and why? 212 because it’s Manhattan’s area code and also because it used to be the notation for one of my favorite ships in an old fandom.
Earliest moment in your life you can remember? Sitting under the table and looking at my grandma, who was wearing a Cruella Deville dress she’d knit herself. Like, it had the actual Disney character on it. Pretty cool to a little guy, I guess!
What did you have for dinner yesterday? Quesadilla
How often do you brush your teeth? Whenever they feel gross
What’s your favourite candy/chocolate? Lately, I’ve been into Junior Mints.
Have you had other blogs on Tumblr? Do you have any other blogs currently? This blog used to have my old handle, linkworshiper. I did a small Whole Foods blog when I worked with them, but it never went anywhere.
If you were suddenly really hungry, what would you choose to eat? Sushi
What fandoms would you consider yourself a part of? Downton Abbey, though lately I’ve been crazy busy and not as active as I once was. Casually still poking at old fandoms like Zelda and Gundam Wing to name a few.
If you could study anything, what would it be? More art education can’t hurt. Maybe some formal history education.
Do you use anything on your lips? (eg. Chapstick, gloss, balm, lipstick) Chapstick
How would you describe your sense of humour? Seinfeld
What things annoy you more than anything else? Mouth noises
What kind of position are you in at the moment? Sitting
Do you wear much jewellery? Nope
Who is the leader of your country, currently? Any other levels of government with leaders? (State, region, province, county, district, municipality, etc) Three supposedly equal branches of government, currently being run into the ground by a clown
Last 3 blogs on your dashboard, not including any of your own @halcyondaze @mab1905 @lavender-hued-melancholy
What do you carry your money in? I try to never carry cash, but I carry a small wallet
Do you enjoy driving? Why or why not? I like it but sometimes it feels like a chore, especially during a commute. @duoloopo thinks I’m a shit driver so she tries to drive whenever she can, which has pluses and minuses.
Longest drive you have ever been on? Savannah GA to San Francisco, CA in a UHaul
Furthest away from home you have ever been? Germany
How many times have you moved house? God, I don’t even know. More than ten.
What is on the floor of the room you’re currently in, not including furniture? Cat toys, unused canvases
How many devices do you own which can access the internet? Phone, computer, iPad, various game consoles
Is there anything that always makes you sad? Thinking too hard about being a failure
What programs do you currently have open? I just rebooted, so only Chrome, Spotify and Photoshop
Last strong smell you can remember smelling? The Greek food I ordered in for dinner
Last healthy thing you ate? Roasted veggies
Do you drink tea or coffee, and how much per day? I prefer tea, and I drink coffee for energy, though sometimes I think it just makes me crash harder.
What do you associate the colour blue with? The sky
How long is the closest ruler you can find? 12 inches
What colour pants/skirt/etc are you currently wearing? Dark blue
When was the last time you drank water? About a minute ago
How often do you clear your browser history? Rarely
Do you believe nude photos can be artistic, rather than erotic? Yes
Ever written fanfiction for anything? Oh God, yes. You can still find it under Link Worshiper on AO3, though some of my ‘classics’ have been removed since I turned them into original manuscripts
Last formal event you attended My cousin’s wedding
If you had to move your birthday to another date, which one would you choose and why? Maybe inch my birth year up just by two so that I’d stop being called a damn millennial. At my age, I really just don’t relate to the generation even though technicalities make me a part of it.
Would you prefer to be at a beach or in the countryside? Beach
Roughly how many people live in your town? 52,000
Do you know anyone with the same birthday as you? Leonard Nimoy :D
Favourite place to shop? Can be a certain store or a place where there are multiple stores I haven’t really gone shopping since the pandemic. Right now, it feels like the only place to buy anything is Amazon XD
Do you have a smartphone? What kind? If you don’t, do you want one? Samsung. It’s not a Galaxy but is a new model and a fraction of the price.
What is your least favourite colour, and why? I don’t think I dislike any colors honestly.
How do you spell grey/gray? Grey. I’ve got too many British online associates to ever go back.
Go to your dashboard and describe the image shown in the radar section (below the “Find blogs” link) It’s Umbrella Academy fanart of Klaus. He’s in black and white with this hands over his eyes and the background is red. It’s very graphic.
What difference is there between how many followers you have, and the number of blogs you follow? 736
How many posts do you have? 8,859
How many posts have you liked? I can’t find the stat D:
Do you post mainly reblogs, or your own content? Mainly reblogs but I pepper in my own content when I can. Lately, I haven’t had time to do as much fanart though, and I kind of feel like it’s not worth bothering to post my original stuff. Nobody follows my blog for that.
Do you track any tags? No.
What time is it currently? 7:33 PM CMT
Is there anything you should be doing right now? Waking up @duoloopo. TIME TO JUMP ON THE BED.
tagging, if they feel like it: @abbys-little-whippersnapper @bumblebarrow @irrationalgame @downtoncat @mab1905 @duoloopo
off the rack #1301
Monday, February 17, 2020
 Happy Family Day. I'm grateful for my extended family of fellow comic book aficionados. Sharing the love of our hobby keeps me young and brightens my life. I miss seeing many of you but you are in my thoughts.
 Catwoman #20 - Joelle Jones (writer) Fernando Blanco (art) FCO Plascencia (colours) Saida Temofonte (letters). Mrs. Creel poisons her party guests showing us what a nasty woman she is. Catwoman fights through a bunch of zombies to get some Lazarus Water to save a friend. Selina's final obstacle will be Mrs. Creel. I can't wait for this story to end. It's been kind of blasé.
 Thor #3 - Donny Cates (writer) Nic Klein (art) Matthew Wilson (colours) VC's Joe Sabino (letters). Lots of KRAKKABOOMS this issue as Thor fights Beta Ray Bill. Horseface doesn't have a chance with All-Father Thor boosted with Galactus given power cosmic. Don't build a funeral pyre for Bill yet. Someone comes to his rescue and that person is a surprise.
 The Dollhouse Family #4 - M. R. Carey (writer) Peter Gross (layouts) Vince Locke (finishes) Cris Peter (colours) Todd Klein (letters). Alice and her daughter recover from the horrible explosion from last issue but their survival cost them an arm and a leg. When Alice gets back to the dollhouse, she finds there's a new tenant and she's not nice at all. This horror title isn't horrible. You should come visit.
 Hawkeye: Freefall #3 - Matthew Rosenberg (writer) Otto Schmidt (art) VC's Joe Sabino (letters). This issue explains how Clint can be in two places at one time. It's dumb but I don't mind because this story is kind of dumb. I like it for the guest stars. The Black Widow shows up and the hero on the last page is a favourite of mine. If the new Ant-Man mini had been this much fun I'd still be reading it.
 The Batman's Grave #5 - Warren Ellis (writer) Bryan Hitch (pencils) Kevin Nowlan & Bryan Hitch (inks) Alex Sinclair (colours) Richard Starkings (letters). I don't know if it's just me, but I find that I lose interest in a Warren Ellis story somewhere and this issue might be it. I've forgotten what the mystery is that put Batman in detective mode even though he's following a lead in Arkham Asylum this issue. I like seeing Batman kick bad guy butt as much as the next fan, but 8 pages of it here seems to be padding the story. Methinks this 12-issue story could've been told in 6.
 Savage Avengers #10 - Gerry Duggan (writer) Patch Zircher (art) Java Tartaglia (colours) VC's Travis Lanham (letters). Conan and the two Doctors, Doom and Strange, battle Kulan Gath. Guess who wins? This issue made me laugh out loud.
 Jessica Jones: Blind Spot #3 - Kelly Thompson (writer) Mattia De Iulis (art) VC's Cory Petit (letters). Now this is a much more enjoyable murder mystery than Batman's Grave. I know exactly what's happening because Kelly Thompson recaps as the investigation continues. There's even an extended 5-page fight scene where Jessica and Elsa Bloodstone fight creatures from the Black Lagoon but it isn't boring because they're bantering about the case all the while. The rest of this 6-issue mini can't come out fast enough for me.
 Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy #6 - Jody Houser (writer) Adriana Melo (pencils) Mark Morales (inks) Hi-Fi (colours) Gabriela Downie (letters). Harley and Ivy's adventure comes to an end with a battle between good and evil Ivy. I liked how they left the fate of Poison Ivy a mystery. Who knows how she'll act the next time she sees Harley?
 X-Force #7 - Benjamin Percy (writer) Oscar Bazaldua (art) Guru-eFX (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). This issue features Domino who was rescued from the bad guys recently. The bad guys managed to steal her good luck powers and have transferred them to someone else. This newly empowered individual is an assassin going around killing mutant supporters. Neena's not too happy about that. I wasn't too surprised by the reveal of the assassin's identity on the last page but I'm sure some new fans will be.
 X-Men #6 - Jonathan Hickman (writer) Matteo Buffagni (art) Sunny Gho (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). This issue features Mystique. She's my favourite shape-shifter. She's sent on a mission to infiltrate the space station designed to fight against the mutants. I liked how the flashbacks merged with this story to culminate at the ominous last page.
 The Immortal Hulk #31 - Al Ewing (writer) Joe Bennett (main story pencils) Ruy Jose, Belardino Brabo & Cam Smith (main story inks) Paul Mounts (main story colours) Javier Rodriguez (McGowan sequence pencils & colours) Alvaro Lopez (McGowan sequence inks) VC's Cory Petit (letters). We get into the heads of Scientist McGowan and the Hulk this issue. Matters of the mind shouldn't surprise fans what with Xemnu being in this story.
 The Amazing Spider-Man #39 - Nick Spencer (writer) Iban Coello (art) Brian Reber (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). This issue reminded me of the Odd Couple, Oscar and Felix. Spider-Man agrees to be a guest on Jonah's podcast and sparks fly as the two antagonists butt heads. It's all talk radio until the super villain crashes the party. Next issue should be less talk  and more action.
 Superman: Heroes #1 - Brian Michael Bendis, Matt Fraction & Greg Rucka (writers) Kevin Maguire, Mike Perkins, Steve Lieber, Mike Norton & Scott Godlewski (art) Paul Mounts, Gabe Eltaeb, Andy Troy & Nathan Fairbairn (colours) Troy Peteri, Clayton Cowles & Simon Bowland (letters). This $5.99 US one-shot is tied-in quite closely with what's been going on in Action Comics & Superman. It looks at the consequences of Superman revealing his secret identity and it's well worth reading.
 Doctor Strange #3 - Mark Waid (writer) Kev Walker (art) Java Tartaglia (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). This is a great one issue story if you want to check this new run out. Doctor Strange fights an artistic demon to save lives.
 Gwen Stacy #1 - Christos Gage (writer) Todd Nauck (art) Rachelle Rosenberg (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). I liked this better than The Amazing Mary Jane maybe because it deals with a younger high school aged Gwen. This story takes place before Gwen and Peter become friends and lovers and involves her father Captain Stacy and his investigation of New York's mob. There are a trio of bad guys that you'll recognise but the big deal super villains don't show up until the last page. If they don't get you to pick up the next issue, nothing will.
 Batman: Pennyworth R.I.P. #1 - James Tynion IV & Peter J. Tomasi (writers) Eddy Barrows & Eber Ferreira, Chris Burnham, Marcio Takara, Diogenes Neves, David Lafuente and Sumit Kumar (art) Adriano Lucas, Rex Lokus & Nathan Fairbairn (colours) Travis Lanham & Thomas Napolitano (letters). This one-shot tribute to Alfred shows us what a dysfunctional family Bruce has created. I would have preferred a more touching send off to this beloved character like the one Brian Michael Bendis wrote for Ultimate Spider-Man/Peter Parker. Damian, Tim, Jason and Barbara reminisce about the butler and then Ric Grayson chimes in with a story about Nightwing. Who the heck is Ric Grayson? I thought Alfred deserved better than this.
 Nebula #1 - Vita Ayala (writer) Claire Roe (art) Mike Spicer (colours) VC's Travis Lanham (letters). I'm ambivalent when it comes to this cyborg killer but I wanted to see if that might change by reading this 5-issue mini. She finds a scientist who has built a device that can predict the future and has him implant it so it's integrated into her cybernetic system. The untested tech winds up screwing with her head. I didn't change my opinion of Nebula with this first issue and I can see where the rest of the story is going so I'll leave the rest on the racks.
 Superman #20 - Brian Michael Bendis (writer) Ivan Reis, Joe Prado & Oclair Albert (art) Alex Sinclair & Jeremiah Skipper (colours) Dave Sharpe (letters). There's action: Superman dukes it out with Mongul. There's drama: The Daily Star is trying to discredit Clark, Lois and the Daily Planet. And there's a surprise appearance of an old friend. There's everything a good comic book needs to grab my attention and want to keep reading.
 Marvels X #2 - Alex Ross & Jim Krueger (writers) Well-Bee (art) VC's Cory Petit (letters). I was fooled by the truck driver who picked up the kid because of the red beard, sunglasses and No Fear baseball cap. I thought it was Matt Murdock in disguise but I was surprised by who it actually was. Daredevil does turn up later in this issue as he and Spider-Man help to keep David safe. The kid's important because he could help find a cure for what's infecting humanity.
White #5
Tumblr media
White #5 Black Mask Studios 2021 Story by Kwanza Osajyefo Design by Tim Smith 3 Pencils by Jamal Igle Inks by Juan Castro Tones by Derwin Roberson Lettered by Dave Sharpe    President Mann makes a gamble to win his war against X and Juncture, but the stakes get even higher once his son Thaddeus ups the ante. With an upgrade to his suit, he may just have the power to do what his father never could - destroy all empowered Blacks.    That this is consistently one of the strongest books i’m reading and this is in terms of writing and artwork.  Yeah there might be one or two things that don’t sit well with me but then it gets me thinking, talking and learning, oh and googling too, as I try to make some sense of what I am thinking and feeling.  That’s what the best stories do, they engage the reader, educate them by helping them educate themselves and this story does that in spades.  The Mann is trying to keep them down and yes it took me way too long for the double entendre to sink in.  I do have to also ask, do the ends justify the means?  There’s changing the system and forcing the system to change and while neither one is quick to happen are they same in the short run or is one considered better or more effective than the other?  Told you I’m thoroughly engaged here.    I am loving the way that this is being told.  The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is presented exceptionally well.  The character development that we see through the dialogue, the character interaction as well as how we see them act and react to the situations and circumstances which they encounter does a magnificent job in continuing fleshing out their personalities.  The pacing is excellent and as it takes us through the pages revealing more and more of the story the more engaged, invested and intrigued we become.      I am very much appreciating the way that we see this being structured and how the layers within the story continue to emerge, grow, evolve and strengthen.  I am also liking the way that these layers open up new avenues to explore.  Doesn’t matter if these avenues are explored or not because they all add some great depth, dimension and complexity to the story.  How we see everything working together to create the story’s ebb & flow as well as how it moves the story forward are impeccably handled.    The interiors here are honestly bloody phenomenal!  The linework is exquisite and how we see the varying weights and techniques being utilised to create this level & quality of detail within the work is extraordinary to see.  We see some great use of backgrounds throughout the book, though we could see more, as they enhance and expand the moments they also work within the composition of the panels to bring out the depth perception, sense of scale and the overall sense of size and scope to the story.  The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels to show a brilliant eye for storytelling.  The hues and tones are stunning!  Everything we see here from the linework to the shading is extraordinarily brilliant work.     I am so thoroughly impressed with this series.  It has a social commentary and depth of storytelling that goes far beyond what we see on the surface.  Each character feels like it’s own unique entity and nothing seems cookie cutter about them and with a large cast like this that’s more impressive than you realise.  With such strong writing and intense characterisation wrapped up in these mindbogglingly brilliant interiors comes one of today’s most powerful reads.
● (pg 16) Tim managed to shut down the Batcomputer before Joker could put a virus onto it ● this Joker looks fabulous
Tumblr media
● (pg 21) heheheh, the GCPD bomb squad just shat themselves ● 👏👏👏👏
Synopsis: The Joker hacks into the computers in Gotham City, including emergency services and government computers and sets the city into disarray, with power outages and fires everywhere. He has sent a tape to the Mayor, which he decides to withhold from the public in order to save face. This leaves it up to Commissioner Gordon to deal with it all. Gordon is forced to confer with Robin, because Batman is out of town.
The next day, the Joker hacks into the Jumbotron at Gotham Stadium during the Hammer Bowl. He demands one billion dollars as ransom to set the city back in order, but with the catch that it must be delivered by Batman personally. Alfred realizes that the Joker has called Tim's bluff, and is well aware that Batman isn't in the city.
Later, Tim plays Warlocks and Warriors with his friends as the Dungeon Master. When faced with the challenge of creating a scenario for his friends to play out, Tim sets up something similar to what is actually happening in Gotham. The king is away, and a mad wizard has taken over the country, leaving only the king's son to deal with it. Ives recommends that the prince follow the flow of the wizard's magic to track him down. This causes Tim to realize that he should follow the Joker's trail over the internet by hacking, and leaves the game without explanation.
Tim attempts to use the Batcave's two Crays to hack his way into the Joker's mainframe. After hours of digging his way through the server's shell, Tim realizes that the Joker has actually used the connection Tim established to hack into the Crays themselves. Desperately, Tim cuts the power before the Joker can get any information from them.
The Joker causes even more havoc for Gotham, such that the mayor asks to have the city declared a disaster area. Tim decides to stop reacting, and do some real detective work. He sneaks into the kidnapped Dr. Osgood Pellinger's house seeking clues. Eventually, he comes across a shoebox flield with photos and memorabilia of Pellinger's childhood dog. Meanwhile, the Joker delivers his demands to the mayor's office, and a frustrated Commissioner Gordon warns Robin against facing the Joker alone…
Revisiting Major League Baseball’s 1987 MVP Races
Tumblr media
Most of baseball’s timeless rules and tradition have expired in the 21st century, as anyone who has watched a game or 10 from the 1980s or 1990s during isolation can confirm. Seriously, teams used to bunt all the time, often during playoff games that were often played during the day and could be viewed in less time than it would eventually take to watch The Irishman. (Game 7 of the 1991 World Series, one of the greatest and tensest games ever played, started at 7:38 PM EST, went 10 innings and lasted three hours and 23 minutes, meaning you probably got to see some or all of your late local news, speaking of something timeless and traditional that is less timeless and traditional today)
But one timeless rule and tradition remains intact: The summer in which you were 13 was the best summer for baseball ever.
This is particularly true if you were 13 in the summer of 1987. (Sorry, everyone else born before or after the 1973-74 nexus, you’re wrong) Baseball cards were as plentiful as they were going to be profitable (didn’t quite work out that way). The ball was juiced and everyone hit homers (we liked it more as kids than we do as adults).
And the game was loaded — we mean, absolutely LOADED — with superstars. This, of course, is true of any era, and kids who were 13 last summer get to tell everyone for the rest of time how they got to watch Mike Trout as a teenager, which is admittedly pretty great.
But, again, kids, you’re wrong, and get off our lawn, because the summer of 1987 was the best time to be a teenaged baseball fan. A whopping 36 Hall of Famers suited up in the summer of 1987 (and Bruce Sutter sat out the season with an injury). This total does not yet count Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens, who may have been the greatest hitter and greatest pitcher to ever perform on a big league diamond.
The awards balloting underscores just how deep the phenomenal talent ran. Eleven future Hall of Famers received a vote in the Most Valuable Player balloting. So did another nine players who either once seemed destined for Cooperstown or at least built compelling candidacies.
Thirty-three years later, in a spring (and quite possibly a summer and a fall) without baseball, the memories of the season, and the debates over who did win the awards and who should have, are as strong as ever. So what better way to pass the time as we wait for the return of the national pastime than by doing so by comparing the 1987 MVP candidates by both the stats used to evaluate them in real time as well as the stats we rely upon more in 2020?
1987 AL MVP VOTING
1.) George Bell (.308-47 HRs-134 RBIs-.957 OPS, 5.0 WAR)
2.) Alan Trammell (.343-28-105-21 SBs-.953-8.2 WAR)
3.) Kirby Puckett (.332-28-99-12 SBs-.900 OPS-4.2 WAR)
4.) Dwight Evans (.305-34-123-.986 OPS-4.8 WAR)
5.) Paul Molitor (.353-16-75-45 SBs-1.003 OPS-6.0 WAR)
6.) Mark McGwire (.289-49-118-.987 OPS-5.1 WAR)
7.) Don Mattingly (.327-30-115-.937 OPS-5.1 WAR)
8.) Tony Fernandez (.322-5-67-32 SBs-.805 OPS-5.1 WAR)
9.) Wade Boggs (.363-24-89-1.049 OPS-8.3 WAR)
10.) Gary Gaetti (.257-31-109-10 SBs-.788 OPS-2.4 WAR)
OTHER NOTABLES: 12.) Darrell Evans, 18.) Robin Yount; 19.) Roger Clemens; T20.) Jack Morris; T20.) Ruben Sierra; T23.) Jose Canseco
REAL-TIME REACTION: This one was controversial as Bell (332 points) edged Trammell (311 points) for the MVP despite Trammell’s Tigers surging over the final week and beating out Bell’s Blue Jays for the AL East by sweeping the last series of the regular season. Trammell hit .417 with seven homers, 20 RBIs and six steals after Aug. 31, a span in which Bell hit .308 with six homers and 21 RBIs. But voters dug the long ball and the RBI (Bell finished second and first, respectively, in the categories). The balloting likely forced Trammell to wait at least a decade to punch his ticket to Cooperstown. An MVP to go along with his elite all-around production at shortstop almost surely would have removed any doubt from his candidacy during his time on the writer’s ballot.
HOW LOADED WAS THIS RACE? Holy moley, let us count the ways. Puckett, a future first-ballot Hall of Famer, finished third. Molitor, another future first-ballot Hall of Famer, produced a 39-game hitting streak — the longest by an American League player since Joe DiMaggio’s record 56-game streak in 1941 and the longest by any player over the last four decades — and finished fifth. McGwire, the unanimous Rookie of the Year, shattered the rookie record for home runs and finished sixth. Mattingly hit a big league record six grand slams and tied the big league record by homering in seven straight games and finished seventh. Boggs, the third future first-ballot Hall of Famer in the top 10, hit a career-high 24 homers and led the AL in OPS and position player WAR and finished ninth. Darrell Evans, at age 40, finished with the second-most RBIs (99) and third-most homers (34) of his 21-year career and finished 12th. Clemens, with a season that was by many measures better than his MVP/Cy Young-award winning campaign a season earlier, finished 19th. Future Hall of Famer Morris tied for 20th with Sierra, who hit 30 homers and finished with 109 RBIs while leading the league in at-bats (643) at age 21 and turning his baseball card into a must-have investment for teenagers everywhere. Speaking of baseball card investments, Canseco, in his pre 40-40 season, finished tied for 23rd.
IF WE DID THIS TODAY: Bell might not even finish in the top five. The decidedly one-dimensional Blue Jays outfielder ranked 10th amongst position players in WAR. Trammell’s late surge for a playoff team probably would have put him over the top. It’s hard not to see Boggs finishing in the top three, at the least, with that outrageous WAR and OPS. Knowing what we know know about the remarkable nature of Molitor’s hitting streak, he probably moves up despite playing just 118 games. And Clemens, with a far higher WAR in 1987 (9.4) than 1986 (8.8), probably finishes in the top five despite the Red Sox going 78-84.
1.) Trammell
2.) Boggs
3.) Molitor
4.) Bell
5.) Clemens
1987 NL MVP VOTING
1.) Andre Dawson (.287-49 HRs-137 RBIs-11 SBs-.896 OPS-4.0 WAR)
2.) Ozzie Smith (.303-0-75-43 SBs-.775 OPS-6.4 WAR)
3.) Jack Clark (.286-35-106-1.055 OPS-5.4 WAR)
4.) Tim Wallach (.298-26-123-.858 OPS-4.3 WAR)
5.) Will Clark (.308-35-91-.951 OPS-4.2 WAR)
6.) Darryl Strawberry (.284-39-104-36 SBs-.981 OPS-6.4 WAR)
7.) Tim Raines (.330-18-68-50 SBs-.955 OPS-6.7 WAR)
8.) Tony Gwynn (.370-7-54-56 SBs-.958 OPS-8.6 WAR)
9.) Eric Davis (.293-37-100-50 SBs-.991 OPS-7.9 WAR)
10.) Howard Johnson (.265-36-99-32 SBs-.868 OPS-4.4 WAR)
CHICAGO – 1987: Andre Dawson of the Chicago Cubs bats during an MLB game at Wrigley Field in … [+] Chicago, Illinois during the 1987 season. (Photo by Ron Vesely/MLB Photos via Getty Images)
REAL-TIME REACTION: Voters dug the long ball, the RBI and the narrative, understandably so. Dawson was frozen out on the free agent market by the colluding owners until he literally presented the Cubs with a blank check. They penciled in “$500,000” and were rewarded with an NL-leading 49 homers and 137 RBIs. Even performing for a last-place team wasn’t enough to keep Dawson from becoming the 21st straight player to win the MVP after leading his league in homers and RBIs. (The previous player to lead his league in homers and RBIs and not win the MVP was Ted Williams who won the Triple Crown in 1947 yet lost the MVP to Joe DiMaggio) In retrospect, it’s surprising this was as close as it was. Dawson (11 first place votes and 269 points overall) outpaced Smith (nine first place votes and 193 points overall) by a decent margin despite getting just two more first-place votes.
HOW LOADED WAS THIS RACE? Holy moley, squared. You thought the AL race was good? Four Hall of Famers had monster seasons — including Smith, who became the first player to finish with at least 75 RBIs and 6.0 WAR without a homer since 1906. Will Clark, in his first full season and with that gorgeous left-handed swing, became the first player age 23 or younger to hit at least .300 with 35 homers and 90 RBIs since Orlando Cepeda did it for the Giants in 1961. Raines missed the first month of the season due to collusion and barely slowed down after going 4-for-5 with an extra-inning grand slam in his debut against the Mets on May 2. He ended up setting career highs in homers and OPS despite the late start — and also won the All-Star Game MVP by breaking a scoreless tie with a two-run triple in the 13th inning. Only two players — Joe Morgan twice and Rickey Henderson once — ever stole at least 56 bases with a better success rate and a higher OPS than Gwynn, whose 82 walks were a career-high and his 35 strikeouts his second-highest single-season whiff total. And for all that, Raines and Gwynn finished seventh and eighth in the MVP balloting!
Tumblr media
And have we mentioned the bottom half of the top 10 had THREE 30-30 players? It was the first season in which there were even TWO 30-30 players, and none of them finished in the top five, even though Strawberry and Johnson were playing for the defending World Series champions in the biggest media market in the land and even though Davis is the only player to ever finish with at least 35 homers and 50 stolen bases and spent part of 1987 as — I am not exaggerating here — the greatest player the game has ever seen. From June 11, 1986 through June 10, 1987, Davis hit .306 with 43 homers, 114 RBIs and 91 stolen bases in 147 games for an OPS of 1.025. Now, I’m getting a little creative, but this 12-month span demands it. Do you know how many players have stolen at least 90 bases and hit at least 10 homers in a season? Three. And none hit more than 12 (Harry Stovey in 1890). The only player to finish a full season with at least 90 steals and an OPS of higher than 1.025 was Billy Hamilton — not the current one, the one whose career ended in 1901. And for all that, Davis finished NINTH in the MVP balloting! (He did hit a mere .279 with 17 homers, 45 RBIs, 24 steals and a .912 OPS while missing 26 of the Reds’ final 104 games).
IF WE DID THIS TODAY: Forget possibly not finishing in the top five, a la Bell. Dawson would almost surely fall to sixth or lower. Figure Smith’s defensive wizardry and robust WAR for a division winner would put him over the top. Advanced metrics would be far kinder to Gwynn today, though the race for second would be tight with the Clarks, both of whom played for division winners while Gwynn played for the NL-worst Padres, who lost 97 games. And geez, who to pick for fifth between Raines’ mammoth five months and Davis’ historical stretch?
1.) Smith
2.) Jack Clark
3.) Gwynn
4.) Will Clark
5.) Davis
Timeless Short Story: A Clerical Error
“No No NO! I said a *time* machine! What am I supposed to do with this Tim machine??” - prompt found on @writing-prompt-s on Tumblr.
The story is below the fold.
-------------------------------- ⁂  --------------------------------
“I swear I’ve never heard a request so strange. My employer has just told me that we need to create a “Tim Machine”. He seems so set in his ways about it and when he gets this way, it’s best to do as he says.” The weary scientist, Doctor Paul Torvelli, says to his colleagues, “We should probably get started if we want to spare ourselves his wrath.”
Doctor Torvelli looks out into the large, white room that is filled with various mechanical trinkets at his fellow researchers, each wearing a pure white coat with a small. deep blue name-tag attached to each left breast pocket. In the corner of the room, where many of the researchers are standing, is a beta version of a particle accelerator. He looks Doctor Richardson directly in his light brown eyes and sighs. The two exchange a brief, understanding nod and Torvelli looks back over the room.
“Now the only question is, what is a Tim Machine?” Torvelli asks the room, an ever-present uncertainty filling his light, airy voice.
“Are you sure it wasn’t a Time Machine he was asking for?” One of the scientists, Doctor Ron Brown, inquires to the administer of that wing of the lab, “Because I’m almost certain he would never ask for a Tim Machine, it could just be a mishearing.”
Doctor Torvelli pauses for a brief moment and begins to search for the voicemail that his superior, Doctor Andrew Smith, left him earlier that day. Doctors Brown and Richardson walk up to the patiently searching Doctor Torvelli, almost accidentally activating a make-shift gravity manipulator and causing gravity to stop functioning across the whole lab, including the various sub-labs that lie deep underground, housing only the most dangerous machines and technologies. A small handful of scientists begin theorizing among themselves on the subject of this bizarre “Tim Machine”, each grabbing their own notebooks and rapidly sketching concepts and ideas. Doctor Torvelli locates the voicemail and plays it for the two that made their way up towards him.
“Hello, it’s Doctor Smith. I just had a conversgation with someone named Julius that clams to be a deity and he issued me a challenge. He said that if I don’t beliefve n his deity stactius, I can build a machine and prove it for myself. He also said something about making a Tim Machine, don’t know what that was about. I’m going to get my team working on the machine to place men among these alleged gods, but I want you and your team to work on the Tim Machine. We are going to punch thuse gods in the face with the power of mordals! Get on it, Doctor Torvelli.” The voicemail of Doctor Smith plays, reinforcing Doctor Smith’s  extremely heavy accent and making some words hard to make out to any degree.
Doctors Torvelli, Richardson, and Brown look at each other in agreement and certainty. A vague form of certainty at the least. The question of what a Tim Machine is still remains prevalent. They, just as the other scientists have been doing for the past couple minutes, grab their notebooks and begin theorizing what a Tim Machine might be. The groups begin to intermingle, speeding the process of uncovering this mystery up immensely. The sound of pencils on paper fills the lab, yet still remains covered by the sounds of several researchers conversing among themselves, working all towards a common goal.
A few hours pass and still, nothing has clicked. Very little progress has been made, but no one is giving up anytime soon. The scientists continue on, making very little progress, stuck at a mental wall that just needs one good crack and the whole thing will crumble. Few small dents have been made, but the wall still stands. One of the scientists gets up and leaves for a few moments to get some fresh air. The excursion to the outside and the fresh air stimulate a sudden idea. He runs back inside with gusto and throws open the doors to the lab.
“Cloning! Wormholes! Sending clones through wormholes! He wants to send clones through wormholes!” The excited, young Doctor Bush exclaims, out of breath from running down several flights of stairs, due to the elevator being under maintenance, “He wants us to make a ‘Dial a Tim’ machine with remote access points, possibly portable!”
And just like that, the walls crumbled into dust.
-------------------------------- ⁂  --------------------------------
Three weeks later, a prototype of the Tim Machine has been built. Now all they need is a DNA sample from somebody to test the speed and effectiveness of their newest invention, which is something easier said than done. No one in the lab is willing to give the machine a sample, despite no risk being involved. Regardless, they wish to find an average Tim, one that is just walking the streets, to use as their test subject for this project. In a case of poor judgment, they decide it would be a good idea to place an ad in the local newspaper, despite the fact that most people in this day and age have never read a newspaper once in their life.
One week later they realize the results of their poor decision and begin advertising for a subject with fliers around town and a spot on the local nightly news.
“And in other news, a group of local researchers are looking for a local Tim to test their newest creation on. This comes at no risk to the Tim and only requires a small sample of DNA.”
But nobody came.
The researchers, irritated by their lack of results, begin to look among themselves for any willing Tim. This search, contrary to expectations based on the last few attempts at finding a Tim, yields some promising results. Working with the researchers on an advanced magnetic levitation system, is one of the new interns, Tim Newmaker. The tall, thin Tim – from the very same university that Doctor Smith’s daughter, Holly Smith, attends – willingly donates himself to the cause.
The researchers are overjoyed and they carry their lucky Tim over to the DNA extractor – one of their newer creations – which does not help the small amount of anxiety that he feels at the moment. A switch is flipped and the monstrous machine whirs into action, filling the room with a deep hum that can be felt throughout their bodies. Tim looks worryingly at the machine as beads of sweat begin to form and roll down his arms. The machine settles into a much fainter hum and the whirring stops.
“Well, that’s reassuring.” Tim says, the sarcasm so blunt it could break a cinder block with ease, “Are you sure this thing is safe?”
The scientist grabs a syringe containing a mysterious, clear fluid and nods at Tim. He carefully grabs Tim’s left arm and injects the fluid into him, after which he guides Tim down into a seat on the front of the megalithic machine. Tim  down and relaxes, the fluid having a calming effect and causing him to fall asleep. The scientist straps Mister Newmaker into the chair and presses a few keys on the nearby computer. The machine opens up and Tim is pulled inside.
A small noise can be heard as a usable amount of DNA is extracted and digitally analyzed. The digital information is sent back to the lab with a light “ding” and the needed DNA is extracted and contained inside of a test tube. The massive machine opens its maw again and extends the seat out. Tim wakes up from his nap and notices the fact that he is strapped into the chair, rather tightly even. He slips into a mild panic and begins trying to brute force his way out of the chair, but the straps get seemingly tighter. The scientist walks over, slaps Tim into a calmer state, and undoes the straps. Tim scrambles out of the chair and pulls himself up on a nearby railing.
The researcher points Tim out and Tim gladly makes his exit. The scientist stays behind and begins to punch in several lines of code, pulling up the digital version of the extracted DNA. He grins and sends the data up to where the prototype Tim Machine is before he leaves, turning the lights off on his way.
Back up in the lab, Doctor Brown opens up the DNA data file and runs a test of the cloning mechanism. It works, at least until he remembers that he never put in any input matter. He grabs a barrel of apples and begins dropping them into the matter absorber, filling the necessary base material that is to be rearranged in order to create a new Tim. The machine scans the input and whirs into action, shaking violently for a brief instant before stopping. A progress bar lights up on the side of the machine and various other lights begin to flicker. The progress bar is at one percent for five minutes.
“Well this is going to be a while, I might as well go and get my break about now.” Doctor Brown says to himself, “This is going to take a few hours, about eight if my estimate is correct.”
Doctor Brown looks out of the nearest window and looks at the brilliant pink and orange sunrise. He shrugs, grabs his piping hot mug of pitch black coffee, and takes a walk outside.
-------------------------------- ⁂  --------------------------------
A few hours later, Doctors Brown, Richardson, and Torvelli check back up on the machine that has been performing the initial DNA examination and checking how much input matter it had to work with. The machine seems to have sped up, it is only 3 hours later and it is over fifty percent done. The scientists are impressed at the rapid progress and high five each other in approval of their creation.
“It still seems weird having to make a Tim Machine, but this is actually turning out pretty well. And there is so much we could do with this.” Doctor Torvelli says into the air, “Imagine if this works, we could have an easy access to test subjects at our leisure.”
The trio of scientists nods in agreement, watching the progress bar increase at an alarming rate. With a nice, homely “ding” that you would hear after the timer stopped when grandma would bake a pie, the scanning is complete. Doctor Richardson flips a switch on the side of the contraption and it begins forming a clone of Tim. Slowly but surely, the matter is being rearranged into a brand new, fully grown Tim.
About half of an hour later, the machine proves to be a success. A clone of Tim, complete with memories and prior knowledge, appears from the machine. They add in some wormhole technology the space-time department was working on and give the final product a test. The machine is a total success. Everything works, much to their surprise. Doctor Torvelli grabs his phone and calls Doctor Smith.
“Good news, sir! The machine is fully operational and we will be bringing it over shortly!” Dr. Torvelli says into his phone.
“Wonderful, Doctor!” Doctor Smith responds, “You never cease to amaze me! Bring it on over whenever you so please.”
Doctor Smith’s accent does not work over the phone, but Doctor Torvelli managed to understand enough of it. The three scientists begin moving parts of the machine into the back of a van and, when the entire thing has been relocated, they drive off towards Doctor Smith’s laboratory. Traffic however, is quick enough to change one’s mood. They are at a standstill, every radio station is playing the equivalent of absolutely nothing, and the air conditioner is starting to get a little hit or miss.
Regardless of the bad traffic, they manage to take a few back roads and get to Doctor Smith’s lab without much trouble. When they arrive, they begin to unload the machine into the main building and set the whole thing up. The one thing that causes a minor issue is getting power to the machine, but luckily, a good scientist always is prepared. They find an extension cable and bring life to the machine. They run a diagnostic and make sure that everything is still fully functional.
Doctor Smith walks in and leans against the door frame casually. He looks at the machine in an impressed manner and claps his hands.
“Color me impressed, Doctors. I can’t believe you created a Time Machine in such a short amount of time.” Doctor Smith says, his accent much more understandable than it was over the phone.
The three scientists look at each other in a confused manner and then back at Doctor Smith. They turn the machine on and start the Tim making process.
“Time Machine? I thought you said ‘Tim Machine’.” Doctor Torvelli says to Doctor Smith, with the other two Doctors nodding in agreement.
“Tim Machine?”, Doctor Smith asks, somewhat irritated, “What in the actual Hell is a Tim Machine‽ I asked you for a Time Machine! What am I supposed to do with this‽”
“We thought you wanted a portable ‘Dial A Lab Rat’ button.” Doctor Brown says, “We thought it was just because you wanted some easy access to willing test subjects, we even included a wormhole transport feature.”
“Wait. Wormhole transport? We actually need that for our machine over here.” Doctor Smith responds, surprise filling his voice, “That mistake of yours actually created something we needed over here. I’m not sure if I should be irritated or impressed.”
A fresh, new Tim pops out of the machine.
“Impressed it is. Congratulations, doctors! You’ve furthered science by leaps and bounds with your discoveries. You should be proud, now come help me implement that wormhole tech in my team’s project.”
The three scientists look at each other for a brief moment and then back at Doctor Smith.
“Yes, Sir!” The three say in unison.
“We’ll get right on that!”
