Leather paints are all very well and good, but I like adding a bit of PearlEx powder into a clear acrylic topcoat to get a little bit extra sheen.
(Random John Barrow mention in the video lol.)
With the bulk of the gorget finished (need to edge bind the bottom in blue and smooth some rippling), I can finally finish rigging the shoulders.
Then all that is left is finishing the mask rod, making the skirt, a belt, and some minor finishing and rigging adjustments.

So it's been a VERY busy time for dolls, part of me is trying to get things done before the weather turns too humid, but I'm also trying to take my time, and boy howdy has it been worth it.
Ever since Dark Revival came out, I KNEW I was gonna do some dolls from it. So today we have an early look at Joey and Audrey. And this is all on the first layer! Granted, there's a lot of sealant on them since both have faces recolored with pearlex powder (I can't help it, they gotta SHIMMER!), so I'm not surprised I could go this far, but ooooh I'm excited to keep going. Gonna have to bust out the gouache to delicately get all of Audrey's inky details. I must say, I'm impressed with Joey's hands and how old he looks, I've never achieved quite that level of detail before, it's nice.

Today has a lot of big things happening. Stuff with the house, stuff with my job, stuff after work, but for a moment, I'd like to focus on something positive. Lemme show you the treasure I found on Saturday.
Meet the most wonderful glitter to ever exist, pearlex powder. This is what a lot of doll artists use to add a little extra shine to their creations. I found this set unexpectedly while looking for yarn at Michaels for their big sale this past weekend, and with my coupon, it was cheaper than it would have been to get it on Amazon, the only other place I could find this exact set. You can do a lot with it, adding water will change its properties too. Lots of fun experimenting to do.
I also found myself experimenting a little bit with designs. I swapped the hands on Squirrel Girl and Spider Gwen, as I plan on using Gwen for a Clara doll, so her hands had to come from somewhere. On Sunday, I spent Father's Day with my grandparents, and my aunt and uncle came too with all of their kids. We had a great time, got to do a lot of reconnecting with the youngest, who's about eight years younger than me. We talked about writing for hours, it was great. But there was also talk about Pokemon with the older ones, as the one that's about to graduate with my sister was playing Pokemon Pearl. It got me in the mood to design a Pokemon trainer for a potential doll project, so I did! No idea if I'll go through with it, but it was cool to just try something on a whim like that. I referenced that photo of my Squirrel Girl doll to find a head shape, it came out okay.
That's not the only art stuff happening. I finally lined a piece for a friend, which I'll try to post once it's done, as well as drew that prompt stuff from a few weeks ago, it just needs some refining before I can post. But for now, time for breakfast so I can get to work. Have a lovely day folks!

Heya! Doll customizer here. I just recently tackled flocking on a doll for the first time, so do take this with a grain of salt. I've never used a flocking powder, but per Dollightful's video for her doll Juwon, she shows a good way to do it with yarn, which is my preferred hair type. The idea is that you take your yarn and chew it up into tiny pieces with scissors, then you put some glue on the head and press it into that. Then when it's dry, you brush off any loose pieces to clean it up. It may take a couple passes of applying more glue and hair to get it covered completely.
I'm very pleased with how it turned out on Joey here. The coloring is a bit strange on mine, I tried to treat it with pastels and pearlex powder for some more variation once it was on the head, but honestly, save yourself the trouble and just get the right color supply from the start. X'''D Hope this helps!
Is there a special kind of flocking powder I would need to flock a Barbie dolls hair?
I see flocking powder on amazon and wasn't sure if that would do.
I also saw a tutorial where someone used chopped up doll hair instead of flocking powder.
I've got plenty of dolls laying around to be hair donors but I've never done flocking before so I'm not sure what would be best for a beginner.

Translucent shimmer mica powders and mica paints. [id: a sketchbook page, with 3 paint swatches placed over it, as well as a paintbrush and a small pot of paint. "Venetian Red," the pigment's name, is written in all caps above two pen sketches of aloysius lindt. his hair is coloured and shaded with venetian red. /end id]

My family and me might be going to Laredo sometime soon, so I’m thinking up a mental list of what I need to repaint a doll and looking into Michael’s website to see the shit they have in stock......
#random#I'm worried I might not find the most necessary stuff [like the Matte Varnish]#and I'm not exactly confident that the stuff they have in stock in the website won't speak for that particular store#what sucks is that they don't have epoxy sculpt#so I have to resort to buying it online#they do have Pearlex powder~ It cost 30 dollars#but considering I feel more inclined on this doll repainting#I'm not all that bothered on the idea of having no money left to buy other shit#like clothes|room decor|snacks
