Hello! my name is Charlie, and I'm the folk behind Long Lane Creatives! I'm making hand-made water colors, mostly shimmers and glittery blends! I want to create colors that are new and interesting, layered so that using them is a surprise each time.

These CSY watercolors are legitimately some of the WORST watercolors I've reviewed- but in a unique and surprising way! I'm sure you've seen them around on Amazon, Etsy, and even AliExpress- now find out if they're worth the money, and if they're REALLY handmade!

So, I am back to making lake pigments again after my fairly disastrous last attempt I finally figured out how to get things to work. I really like using things most people are not using (like I haven’t worked any with indigo, madder, cochineal, etc) and my most recent favorite is this incredible teal I got from black goji berries that looks like it could be a Phthalo pigment.

Let me know if people want to see my fun experiments, I am more than happy to talk about my paint making passions, but also don’t want to fill up people’s feeds if it is unwanted.

Madder red (alizarine) - the newest handmade watercolour paint in my store here. I like making those long thin lines, it gives me an idea of how a paint flows. It ties with red ochre as my favourite red pigment ❤️

Alizarine has been extracted from madder plants for centuries. Plants are still used to make dye, or a lake pigment for use in watercolour and other paints (although not commercially - individual crafters/makers mostly use madder plants now.) In the 19th century alizarine became the first natural dye to be synthetically produced. Most madder reds now come from this more easily made synthetic pigment.

However you make it, alizarine isn't fully light-fast. So for dyeing and commercial applications it's mostly been replaced by more light-fast, bright quinacridone pigments. I prefer the colour of madder red though. It's not *that* fugitive as long as you don't leave things in the sun, and you really can't beat it for mixing warm pinks, peaches, and oranges.

Trying the same scene with oil pastels and again in watercolor. I don't have much experience with oil pastels, other than using them as a mark-making tool in my abstract cold wax paintings.

I've been making watercolor paint for myself and now I have far too much of it. Are there any artists here interested in some? They range from pearlescent to glitter, some changing colors half way through making them a fun surprise to work with!
