During and after the dark years of the Greek Civil War the island was used as a prison and forced labor camp mainly for 5.000 women (and their children).
Tumblr media
The first prisoners to arrive in 1946 were men from Epirus and Thessaly who had been accused of political crimes (mostly that of participating in the EAM-ELAS resistance movement during WWII.)
In 1947, the men were relocated to other camps and the Trikeri camp was used for female Communist and leftist political prisoners who had been captured during the Greek Civil War.
The women, many carrying babies, were forced to sleep on the ground. Food was inadequate, and healthcare for the children was non-existent. Many survivors also spoke of beatings and other forms of torture by the guards, turning what was supposed to be a camp for political prisoners into something more akin to a concentration camp.
In September 1949, political activists from other camps were sent to Trikeri island, increasing the number of prisoners held there to 4,700.

How do you get your colour palettes? Any tips for colours?
I draw a lot of inspiration from cultural clothing (especially mine) so I get a lot of colors from that, I collect books on it so I have a ton to look at and choose from :) I also draw many characters in pieces.

Cultural clothing can have very good (especially earth tone, or neon-specific) palettes. Hope it's helpful for you!

Darling, have you ever met a toddler?
Puki, have you ever encountered a situation where overwhelming violence or conniving trickery was not in fact the solution?
Honestly, I mean honestly give me a scenario where that isn't the solution? I'll wait

I'm bored so here's what pokemon I think the origin characters of baldur's gate 3 would have (3 each bc I need to restrain my neurodivergence at least a lil bit /hj)
going from typically first met to last met !
Lae'zel:
-Lucario. same as below
-Toxicroak. easy strike fast and hit hard
-Kommo-o. also fits with above but it's definitely more tank-y then the others. it also fits with her personality
Shadowheart:
-Absol. it just makes sense with her character and Absol being the disaster pkmn makes this better (def her partner too)
-Gothitelle. again it honestly makes sense for her (they help do eachother's hair)
-Zoruark bc of her capibility of deception and her past of disguises as well as her snark and trikery (she would've been given a Zorua when she got indoctrinated into Shar's following)
Astarion:
(I did smth silly and made his team here all pokemon that can learn Leech Life)
-Salazzle(???). purely vibes tbh and he probs got it after the nautiloid
-Shedinja. I feel like he can relate to it being a former shell of itself and thinking they're both weak
-Golbat. ...I don't think I need to explain my reasoning. (he also evolves it into Crobat with friendship during the travel)
Gale:
-Cosmog. I can't explain why but former chosen of mystra has to have access to a legendary right??? but also it's hard to train and level up
-Alakazam. powerful psychic type pokemon for a powerful wizard. easy reading buddy too
-Lapras. ehehe waterdeep
Wyll:
-OH I JUST KNOW HE'D HAVE AN AEGISLASH (OR ATLEAST PART OF THE HONEGE LINE) it's royal, loyal to its trainer, can be played as defensive AND offensive! god I love Aegislash..
-Galade too. he def grew up with it when he got given a Ralts egg by Ulder
-Delphox. It's ties to magic and being a mage but with pizazz makes sense to me (probs got it when he made the pact with Mizora)
Karlach:
-Turtonator me thinks. it's a good defensive mon (and they're both capable of blowing up) (I'm so sorry I had to make that connection teehee)
-INCINEROAR. SHE LOVES HER INCINEROAR SM THEY BASH PEOPLE'S HEADS IN TOGETHER <33
-Houndoom. mainly bc she's seen as intimidating and villainous at first but they're both major softies and care for others deeply

Bridal costume of the Trikeri. Early 20th century. Greece. ℹ The costume of #Trikeri has two fine white calico chemises and up to 13 petticoats, the main ones being the "kolovoli" and the "mallina". ℹ The 'good' outermost chemise is made of linen or silk, in white, blue, crimson, brown or green, and is adorned with gold or multicoloured embroidery. ℹ The dress is richly pleated, sleeveless and short, and the hem is often ornamented. ℹ Round the waist is a very wide gold-embroidered belt fastened with large clasps, the "klidotaria". ℹ Tucked into the belt is a white or floral or gold embroidered handkerchief, the "mandili tou korfou". ℹ The costume includes two pieces of jewellery: the pectoral cross and the "kosses me ta klonia kai ta koumbia", which are silver ornaments for the plaits. #history #museumcollection #antiquetextile #instamuseum #museumoninstagram #antiquesilk #historicaldress #costumehistory #fashion #historicalfashion #historicalclothing #dresshistory #fashionhistory #historicalcostume #fashionhistorian #20thcentury #20thcenturyfashion #Greece #greek #bridal #weddingdress #traditional Source: The Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation "V Papantoniou https://www.instagram.com/p/B2q1GkAAYcP/?igshid=1a15v5bwzkg9x

“...this quiet island paradise has a haunting past, because during and after the dark years of the Greek Civil War it was used as a concentration camp.
The first prisoners to arrive in 1946 were men who had been accused of political crimes. They were mostly men from the districts of Epirus and Thessaly who had participated in the EAM-ELAS resistance movement during WWII.
In 1947, the men were relocated to other camps and the Trikeri camp was used for female pro-Communist political prisoners who had been captured during the Greek Civil War.
When the women, many carrying babies, landed on the deserted beaches of Trikeri they were pleasantly surprised with the stunning views and the green landscape.
The reality of the camp, however, soon shattered any hopes that their imprisonment could be a holiday in paradise. Many of them were forced to sleep on the ground, food was inadequate, and healthcare for the children was non-existent.
Many survivors also spoke of beatings and other forms of torture by the guards, turning what was supposed to be a camp for political prisoners into something more akin to a concentration camp.”

We took the motorbike on a little road trip, along a beautiful route which wound along the coast for a couple of hours. We ended up at a peaceful hilltop village called Trikeri where we had our picnic lunch, then explored a little further, where we found this picture-postcard little village called Kyriaki.
