Ratio and Aventurine are Sherlock and Watson coded but not in the way you think. Where one might assume Ratio would be Sherlock because of his intellect and analytic approach to life and the comments he makes, allow me to switch the perspective. Aventurine is an addict. To what? To feeling like shit and endorsing it, to having low self-esteem, to rejecting everyone in a way so no one gets too close and realizes how vulnerable he is, how much he yearns for love. He hid it away so well that he himself isn’t aware anymore of how much he wants it. to be loved, appreciated, and seen as more than just his luck- much like Ratio wants to be seen for more than just his achievements (poor man ain’t aware of how much he wants it either). Aventurine plays this perfect little role of a charismatic, lucky, fun-to-be-around persona. And that’s all it is, a play, a stage act.

let us switch gears back to Sherlock and John. Sherlock is also an addict, depending on at which point in the timeline, it is nicotine, drugs, crime cases, and similar. Here is where the point lies. Who is the one that pulls Sherlock out of that shit, out of the drug den, to hide his cigarettes away? John. We think Sherlock functions fine… before John, sure. After John, after Mary dies; oh no, Sherlock is not well without him. He can barely function, (yes, Mary’s death comes also in account here, but I won’t get sidetracked), living in a mess, doing drugs again, smoking, treating himself like shit and like he is worthless. So, who reminds Sherlock of his worth, of his genius, of the fact that he is human and not just a performance act that he puts on of deducting others? John. Both Sherlock and Aventurine throw these spectacles, these performances, these acts of a grand image, they play it and they dance to the song that others sing, moving to the melody that strangers decide; playing into whatever image that is painted of them no matter how untrue it is, ex. Aventurine will play a gambling alcoholic as much as you wish although he is more than that, and Sherlock will play the killer, the crazy ‘psychopath’ that kidnapped those kids and poisoned them, and he is also more than that. The difference is that Sherlock performs his knowledge and analytic skills, unlike Aventurine who keeps those cards close to his chest- that is how he survives, that is how he survived, his instinct, his trauma making him aware of a lot of things in his surroundings and aware of everyone else; carefully analyzing everyone to ensure his safety. Aventurine is better with his tongue, knowing what to say and when to say it, with much better people skills- that is what got him this far after all; so, he performs with flashy promises, with fun games- gambling with his own life because what is it worth to him anyway anymore? it circles back to his ‘the only survivor trauma’. Sherlock was ready to gamble his own life (S1E1) and who stopped him? John. Well, more like who saved him. The drug addiction that Sherlock has is a bit downplayed and it always ends fast within the episodes, but in its own way, it is also his gamble, him not valuing his life as much as he should.

yes, in a way Ratio and Aventurine can both be Sherlock. But it is not about Sherlock, as much as it is about Watson. And exactly what Watson brings to the table, to their relationship. In the case of Johnlock, Ratio is very much Watson. The one to tell Aventurine his life matters, the one to go along with his plan of deceiving Sunday- because Aventurine had this great plan, a huge gamble. sound familiar? The usual thing about Sherlock with big plans, ex. exposing Mary after getting shot, going to Magnussen’s to sell Mycroft’s PC. And who follows along even when they don’t agree? John.

to take into account Johnlock in the later episodes/at least the second season, when they are closer- we are brought up to speed on where Aventio are. it is a well known fact that Aventio knew each other before the first scene in the hotel of them interacting. So, they have a history, and their period of getting familiar is over. They know each other. we only see John openly criticizing Sherlock later in the series, be it insulting him or calling him out on his bullshit. The same thing happens with Aventio, where Ratio is the one to openly state his thoughts and criticize. While yes, one may argue that that is in Ratio’s character to behave as such, if we recall the scene between Ratio and the MC, he doesn’t behave that way if unprovoked. And Aventurine wasn’t provoking him, hence the conclusion. As much as Ratio seems like the black sheep here, the odd one out (which he is don’t get me wrong), in this perspective it is Aventurine who is that. and yes, Ratio walks on eggshells around him, apologizing for his harsh words. these two aren’t the perfect puzzle pieces for Johnlock, they do differ in the way they walk in public and who leads the way, and of course the point of this isn’t to make them overlap, but to draw parallels. And while writing this, truly a lot of opposing things came to mind, where both couples differ in such vast ways, all four being complex, rich characters- it pained me that Aventurine and Veritas would be compared to Sherlock and John only in the way that the “genius” matched the “genius”. smh.

Now the way Ratio is Sherlock is very simple, he doesn’t consider himself human- more like, doesn’t allow himself to be human, to feel, to connect, to breathe; when he is too much of a human – and the main reason he wasn’t accepted into the genius society. Poor Ratio, cursed because he wants to help and spread knowledge, what a mean fate struck upon the burned out gifted autistic asexual kid. To switch to Sherlock (also very autistic asexual coded), he is the most human out of them all, (I believe Eurus calls him that but I don’t recall the exact quote, also pointed out by Mrs. Hudson, John, and Mycroft), trying to be this analytical machine when his caring bleeds through his skin, evaporating through his pores, his love for John and so many others making him pull himself apart and do anything to protect them, ex. killing Magnussen, giving himself to Smith to a guaranteed death, faking his own suicide to protect Lestrade, John, and Mrs. Hudson. Sherlock who, much like Ratio, wishes to be strict in his way of life, but cannot help wanting to explain and help others, and Ratio here differs by wanting to help everyone improve while Sherlock is willing to help only after the person has shown some amount of will, intelligence, proved themselves in some way (Irene Adler) or he so rarely happened to like them (ex. the kid that was at Mary’s wedding). Although, their shared way of calling others around them idiots is neat. I’d say this is their main connection and outside of it they are extremely different characters, which is why further comparison is pointless and shallow if you just want to compare characters because they are quote on quote the clever one.

Case in point, Aventurine is Sherlock because Ratio is John, and the one that saves him. The one that grounds him, and Aventurine NEEDS him. He needs Veritas. And Sherlock needs John. Therefore, Aventurine isn’t Sherlock without Ratio, much like there is no Sherlock (be it books, movies, or the show) without John. It is more about the relationships between them than the actual characters, and that, honestly, makes it even more beautiful.

Mycroft Holmes

Mycroft Holmes first saw you in Oxford Street's Ruby Jubilee Tea Room.

While it was true that he did not frequent cafés, the Ruby Jubilee was, according to Mycroft, the only worthwhile place to take a break from his steadfast workaholic tendencies and drink tea, as it came with a bonus of observing mere goldfish.

He was in his bubble, they were in their tank.

But you...

Dressed in smart, comfortable (oh! how Mycroft unadmittedly longed for a day where he could match your level of cosiness and ease) oversized jeans and matching black cotton shirt, he watched you delicately hold the teacup to your lips and sip.

You returned to the Ruby Jubilee once a week, and by the third visit, you were vaguely aware of a presence, dark against the ivory walls and milky white furniture with tables laid with lace cloth, and pearly crockery for vanilla cream cakes and Victoria sponges.

You looked to your left to catch the eye of a posh man in a black pinstripe suit.

He smiled softly at you, placing his fork down on a half-eaten slice of cake.

You smiled back, but the connection subsided and you were quickly back to reading.

The next week, sitting alone at your usual table, your focus was broken by a familiar face.

"Good morning. I was hoping this seat wouldn't be taken... Mycroft Holmes is the name."

You introduced yourself, and allowed him to sit down.

That was the first of many more meetings where you would not pick up a novel inside of the Ruby Jubilee, instead absorbed in the beautiful man in front of you and your conversations.

Months later, you were living with Mycroft, in his mansion thirty minutes outside of the London suburbs.

The extensive collections of antique and classic books in the two-story library in the west wing coupled with the expansive gardens planted with roses and archways and a small stream with a little wooden bridge easily filled the hours in your day when Mycroft was working.

When Mycroft happened to be working at home, you would sit in your half of the office with your PC setup and spend time with your video games.

Meanwhile, Mycroft would be coordinating a meeting with the Russian oligarchs about the sanctions on their economy or mediating a borderline war brewing between South Korea and Japan.

However, as soon as Mycroft had a day off, he never failed to whisk you away to the Ruby Jubilee, and gift you with a new novel he had deduced you would like from your previous favourites.

It is an unspoken fact that Mycroft often steals your clothing (hoodies and jumpers) to sleep with or cuddle, or even simply hold and have near him while in the office or sitting room, because it is comfortable.

You ended up buying him baggy jeans and jogging bottoms paired with cotton t-shirts for optimal comfort, but it still took forever to convince him to try them on.

Now he doesn't even blink at his suits when home.

Needless to say, while he may not be one for PDA or excessive touch, he loves you a lot ❤️

My Tav's/Durges lore got to the point of being way to complicated. Like most of my babies don't perfectly fit cannon anymore.

Still I did made them a picrew (cause my PC still does not run BG3 and I played out of begging my friends to use theirs anytime I could) and small introduction and here they are:

My first Tav before ever playing:

Taveleonis "Lione" Denebola [They/Them] - High Elf (Moon) - Bard [College of Lore]

Lione already starts unfitting because they were a College of Spirits bard retrofitted into a lore bard. The shortest version of their story is that they are a music prodigy and a bastard child of two important nobble houses of Everesta. Because of some shennanigans they ended up in the care of neither and instead lived with an old nobble elf lady who had lost her son and husband.

At age 40 wanting to explore the world and live adventures worth singing about (and also escape some very complicated inheritance disputes) they left Evereska. Their adoptive mother (even if she refused the tittle) tried to advice them against going to Baldur's Gate saying the place was too dangerous and that her heart would not survive losing then so young. They told her she was being dramatic and they knew how to take care of themself. In their second week on Baldur's Gate they were kidnapped by mindflayers proving they were not the sharpest and way too impulsive for their own good.

Their most important relationships are:

● Being in a QPR with Karlach

● Being besties with Gale after Gale recovers from being friendzoned by them and learns about aromanticism in the process.

● Some backstory with Astarion maybe

● Being the Blade of Frontiers N1 fan and maybe Wyll's bardic teacher

● Something something made out with Dammon on my heart.

Euros Armhest [She/Her] - Human - Druid (Moon)

Look Euros was my first DnD characther and she was tecnically generated by the DM but I still love her. The original one was a mage but by my RP always made her sound like she really wanted to be a druid and just didn't knew druids were a thing. So this version of Eurus runned away from her abusive uncle/wizard professor when still very young and ended up adopted by the members of the Emerald Cove.

By retrofiting her secret princess origin babygirl recieves a mysterious letter at her 30th birthday (originally it was 18th but eh) that revels that her uncle blaming her dad for his sister's death kidnapped her. Her dad is still alive albeit sick and has spend the last thirty years trying to find her. He is also Baldur's Gate nobility. So she leaves the Grove merely two days before Halsin disappearing to grant her dad his last wishes.

She spends a month with her dad, his wife and her half-sibblings but nobility is not the life for her and she knows that while her stepmother likes her the woman is also worried Euros will take her own kids tittles as the eldest. Mostly she misses home. So she gets ready to go back to the Grove... and is kidnapped by mindflayers.

Her most important relationships are:

■ She was my Gale run. She dates Gale. Getting the Gale hype was important for me.

■ The type of not actually possible but cannon in my heart is that she has a daugther-father relationship with Halsin and has had one since she was a lil lost runaway.

■ She used to admire Kagha very much and follow her around when she was little and has grown to be very disappointed in the woman.

■ She thinks Zevlor is hot. It has no bearings on her actions but one of my Tavs needs to. And I'm choosing Euros.

■ She is really close to Karlach.

■ My boy Astarion disapproves her so much but he does keep following her and listen to her about Ascension so she did something there I think (?)

[Fun fact I named her Euros cause I was too much of an egg to name my first characther Mycroft and I needed a Holmes sibling replacement. I was 12 and still though Sherlock was a good show.]

Nyx - Luis Santata "Nyxis" [He/They] | Tiefling [is complicated] - Bard (College of Glamour)

Nyxis is so complicated because his whole lore is mostly me reading too much isekai fanfics with a huge bit of my love of changing reality by going "you are not my dad *inserts actually possible option* is my dad".

So basically Luis was a normal brazilian human music student from some real life adjacent world. Except one day he got killed by a bunch of bigots at college. The Incel bigots were also pop culture nerds and decided to pretend the murder was a satanic ritual for Bhaal. For some reason Bhaal decided "oh cool got a soult" and that was how Nyx reincarnated.

Nyx does not know any of that and is actually not that competent Dark Urge. Murder is like a boring task, he is the "but dad I don't want to play football I want to be in the glee club" except for murder. Unfortunately he is good at murder so he and Orin are the only ones who think Orin should be the one ending the world in the name of Bhaal. Oh well.

Except Nyx gets abducted and forgets everything and as his memories come back the memories of his first life come back as well. And so he starts resisting the Urge as he becames closer and closer to Luis. The Light of the Night. He slowly becames a mix of both and decides to go by Nyxis. And yes at some point after cannon he mostly stops being a Bhaalspawn by going "You are not my dad, my dad is was a brazilian office worker fuck you". They also are very annoyed common is english and starts singing covers of brazilian songs and spelling the public so they'll understand portuguese.

Important Relationships:

■ They are dating Astarion. He is a Dark Urge resisting the Urge play of fucking course he is.

■ They are besties with Lae'zel and the two of them did slept together. He calls her Lae to her annoyance and they adore her so much.

■ He is surprisingly very good friends with Wyll. Like they fully see Wyll as a brother (in parts because Wyll reminds them of their human brazilian sister)

■ They will not admit it ever but deep down he misses Orin.

■ He does not miss Gortash though. They are exes that hate each other and a lot of that is because Nyxis really likes Karlach.

■ "I am a Sharran" "Oh cool" "Wait really?" "I don't discriminate! Belive whatever best fits you" *some time later* "Wait Sharr belive in WHAT? Fuck I fucked that one up real bad". He and Shadowheart are friends.

■ He also really hates Wyll's dad. He finds it complicated because Luis's dad was really great and Bhaal was Bhaal and Ulder is clearly neither and he can't explain how much he dislikes Ulder without framing it as his own daddy issues.

Shasta Dusknoir [She/Her] - High Elf (Moon)- Cleric of Tymora

I have not played with her because it is literally not possible. Shasta is my BG/BG2 character and I just am obsessed with thinking in a way she could be in BG3. Shasta is also a trans woman and was still in the closet during the games events.

Basically she exists in the Realm of a never wroten fanfic about Shadowheart (and maybe Nocture) being kidnapped from the Temple of Shar just after she lost her memories of her life as a Selunite and Shasta trying to be a good person but not knowing how.

She also exists so I can explain my headcannon that Viconia actually killed the people from the Shar temple as a rebellion and was going to (and did for a very short bit) leave Shar just as she did in the original BG2 Epilogue where she helps Drizztz but Sharr took her memories and made her loyal once again after some punishments.

Important Relationships:

■ She was very close to both Khalid and Jaheira and almost became a thrid person on the relationship. While she and Jaheira almost had a thing during BG2 the memory of Khalid stopped them both.

■ In ny head after metting Jaheira again and deciding to join the Harpers the two slowly start to rebuild those feelings.

■ She dated Viconia but left because she needed to discover herself. After adventuring and transitioning she came back to find a Viconia unlike the woman she left and with little memories of their time together. She has tried to keep a close eye on Viconia since and that was how she found a crying child and took her in.

■ When they met Shasta was a Cleric of Correllon and Viconia was a former Cleric of Lolth. Their time together changed both and as BG2 happened Shasta started to question Corellon in diferent ways from the ones Viconia questioned Lolth. Shasta ended up finding her true path with Tymora.

■ She is a mother figure to Shadowheart even if she really wants to be a cool aunt and find the kid's parents soon.

■ Misnc coming back from petrification is what makes her join the Harper's as he recognizes her on the streets. The two have always been great friends.

■ Because I really love him tiny Wyll shows up quite a lot and Shasta does suceed a bit in her being a cool aunt quest just with a different kid.

■ If she was not busy having complicated feelings towards her ex she would probably had noticed Cazador was a vampire. Specially because she was almost kidnapped by Violet. Alas.

■ She and Astarion often met because he was stalking for preys in the same territory she was spying on sharrans and both think the other is a spy for the Flaming First trying to understand the other very concerning behavior. After Shadowheart disappears in a huge spying the sharrans mission and comes back with her parents a lot of complicated tadpole background Shasta and Astarion have a very akward conversation about that.

■ Look she did not take her break up well specially after the surprise acidental kidnapping of a daughter but to be fair she was super right in seing Viconia as a treat to Baldur's Gate.

Robbie Ashthorn [He/Him] - Half-Elf - Ranger (Beast Master)

Robbie was my first 5e characther and honestly I really did not need to change much for him. He just transitioned because when I played him I was almost breaking my egg and he had so much of my trans angst. So now he is a trans man just like his creator.

He was adopted by a polycule of amazing adventurers and grew up traveling around and watching his family be amazing. He always wanted to be like them but also felt very pressured and that was why he left to try to be his own person. Finding himself just came with T-shots this time. He was looking for jobs on Baldur's Gate when he ended up kidnapped by mindflayers.

Important Relationships:

■ Robbie is my Wyll run. He and Wyll are very in love.

■ Robbie is very close to Karlach as well. And he and Wyll go to Avernus with her.

■ So guess who had the heartbreaking experience of having Wyll, Astarion and Karlach as main party and suddently everyone is in hell except Astarion and you feel like you abandoned a friend? Robbie. Astarion is going to exploit that guilt so much when the trio comes back. Like Robbie is fully going to do Astarion's dishes for at least a month.

■ I have no idea why Astarion disapproved of Robbie way less than of Euros because Robbie is also a good-two-shoes softbaby. My theory is that they are friends because Robbie lies more and Astarion is lowkey impressed by soft boy lying out of his ass to anyone and everyone. Robbie also has the self-preservation of a pea so he is very "fuck it bite me". They are friends. Unlikely friends as they are but still.

■ Look this is truth for all of my characters because none of them are cis Gale is their hormone provider. What an ally. Robbie is the softest of my characthers so he is the one actually showing the most appreciation here. Robbie is also autistic so he has that going.

■ Look Robbie is probably the only one of my characters that can truly be described as the glue keeping them together. He is lovely like that.

■ Robbie has raven, raven, raven, bear, raven spiritual animals as a ranger. All his ravens have names that start with Ed except the bear who is named Ted.

■ He dislikes Ulder but is very good at pretending not to for Wyll's sake. The only person that knows Robbie actually hates his father in law is Astarion because Robbie needs someone to rant to and Astarion loves the fact that Robbie is a fake ass bitch for once. [Disclaimer: I don't actually hate Ulder he is a fascinating and deeply complex characther. I used to though for my own daddy issues and it shows on my characters]

Ash [He/She/They] - Wood Elf - Sorcerer [Wild Magic]

Look Ash and Robbie are my favorites because sometimes being unabashedly good/evil is very charming. Ash is my Durge and she loves murder and chaos. Now he doesn't want to kill everyone because what would be the fun of that but she is a great Bhaalspawn despite that one small flaw. They just prefer having fun. Continualy manipulating Gale until staying was a surprise and the only part I felt a bit bad about. But it was also a bit funny.

Important Relationships:

■ Ash loves Orin. Orin does not love Ash. Both because jealousy and because Ash is not the best sibling let's be honest. Ash is trying to improve their relationship by including Orin more in their evil plans, he also wants to convince Orin that ruling the world is more fun than following their dad and destroying it. If everyone dies you can't murder anymore.

■ Ash also loves Minthara. Minthy was the one that showed Ash the possibility of just ruling the world and turning it into her twisted kingdom via the Absolute Power instead of killing every alive being and Ash is very grateful for that. Ash is also very intense on his feelings and she can love people very much is just rare.

■ While they are exes Ash still considers Gortash a friend and possible brother. Gortash has not fully moved from them but is trying his best. They go along swimmingly if complicatedly. If Minthy decided she wanted Gortash as a sub on their harem both Ash and Gortash would probably be somewhat invested.

■ Now she and Ascended Astarion are as much friends as AA can be friends with anyone. They enjoy each other's company very much and they do have similar world views (read: are using violence, drugs, sex and fun to pretend the existencial dread/emptiness is not real) and they love the same things. He and Astarion have real fun together and is amazing. But both of them do have the same end goal so while Ash does love Astarion he knows one day they will be enemies and so they are studying each other as much as having fun (that is not true neither of them have enough impulse control to be really making as much progress/having a plan as they think they are but both of them are having a shit ton or fun, basically picture L and Kira but less homoeroticism and waay less impulse control).

■ While Ash belives in making her friends worse (see Laezel, Shadowheart and Astarion) he did his absolute best to stop Gale from becaming a god. Thing is they don't like gods and he also thinks if Gale becames a god he'll leave them. Ash is a very toxic friend. They also lowkey see/treat Gale as a pet. But she is the one friend Gale has (because of Ash but Gale is not noticing that one yet). Now Ash does think Gale is very smart and he admires Gale A LOT, she also lowkey is always asking Gale things even things he cannot answer (when she discovered Bhaal first plan was making them a dragonborn her first reaction was go "huh why do you think he went for wood elf instead?" and he fully belives Gale's answer). He thinks Gale knows everything. They also think Gale is very easy to manipulate and think is very funny to trick Gale and controlling him. And he has abandonment issues and since Minty is much more than a friend and he knows Astarion isn't going to be their friend forever and Lae'zel is barely there and Shadowheart is not that much into the concept of friendship they decided someone has too and are very into keeping Gale.

■ She deeply regrets helping Lae join Valaquith because now Lae'zel is rarely there and he really liked Lae'zel. Lae admired them but didn't liked them as much cause Ash is very clingy.

■ They do not regret helping Shadowheart though. Yes, she is more distant nowdays but they have very fun talks about loss and Ash thinks Shadowheart is happier and cooler having embraced her destiny. Besides Ash is pretty sure Shadowheart will join her ruling the world and partying forever dreams just like Minty, Gortash and Gale. She wanted Lae, Astarion and Orin to also be on it but they know it won't last with them.
