Man in a Suitcase: Somebody Loses, Somebody... Wins? (1.19, ITC, 1968)
"Mr. McGill, I was told that you do dangerous work for money. I offer you dangerous work - and I offer you money in proportion."
"What proportion?"
"Name your price."
"Ok. I get a legitimate visa. I travel under my own name, using my own passport. I'll obey every law in the book. And if I smell the slightest aroma of trouble, baby, I'm heading home. And if I locate your brother, it's gonna cost you twenty thousand dollars, plus expenses. And if I don't locate your brother... it'll cost you twenty thousand dollars, plus expenses."
"Those are difficult terms."
"Do me a favour, turn me down."

Jan Read had ended up writing for#show through pure coincidence (his Spanish wife did some language work on 1.16 The Man Who Stood Still) but his script is the show at its#sharpest‚ wittiest‚ darkest and most cutting. Jac Pearce‚ having forged a genuine friendship with Bradford on 1.7‚ returned in a bigger#role as a former love of McGill's who may or may not have defected. cue a bitterly nihilistic study of the collateral victims of the cold#war‚ as a job in East Berlin gets murkier and more complicated. it's beautifully written‚ but wonderfully played too; the pair have genuine#chemistry‚ and you really feel like in another world they could have made it work together. sobs. maybe next time round.

[Image description taken from alt text: Image 1: Two hands are seen clinking champagne flutes together. In the background, a party scene is visible.
Image 2:  Arthur leads Godfrey and Irene through the crowded party, advising them to “Stay close.” Godfrey and Irene look around nervously. Wafting smoke and a large number of potted plants lend the scene an air of going through a jungle. In the background is a crowd of figures mingling, including Lord Henry Wotton speaking with Paul Lessingham (the Politician, the Statesman).
Image 3: Two men sit together and talk. The man on the left, Basil Hallward, leans forward in his chair, gesturing as he says something to the other man, Dorian Gray. Dorian is reclining on a couch, sipping his champagne and not looking at Basil.
Image 4: Arthur looks down with a distinctly unamused expression as he says, “Gray.”
Image 5: Dorian looks up from his drink, still reclining on the couch. His eyebrows are raised, and he looks intrigued. “Godalming. I don’t see you (italics) here often,” he says. “To what do I owe the pleasure?” End description.]

Paul Williams as Jimmy Jordan in Fantasy Island, singing 'I Got The Music in Me'! i'm in the business of archiving some more obscure Paul Williams content right now 🙈 Paul appeared as a few different characters on the 70s TV show Fantasy Island. in 'The Perfect Gentleman' (Season 6, Episode 3), Paul plays a rock star named Jimmy Jordan who escapes to Fantasy Island after accidentally witnessing a mob killing. although he takes on a new identity as Godfrey the Butler, his disguise is almost rumbled by the revelation of his musical abilities, in true Paul Williams guest star fashion! i haven't seen this song available anywhere else, so enjoy 😉

The Saint: The Best Laid Schemes (6.1, ITC, 1968)
"You know, it's, uh, pretty obvious that somebody who knows your aunt's past medical history is trying to drive her mad. I must admit they're doing a pretty good job of it, too. But now suppose the end object of the exercise is not to have her committed but to get her to the state where she would take her own life. Be neat, wouldn't it?"
