Hyacinthleaves is a little fanfiction blog that I'm creating because I honestly want to give back to the fanfiction community. I've been reading them since I was pretty young and I think that non-canon creations take so much skill and patience. Since I've been reading them for so long, I think that its time to give back (even in a very small and simple way) and consistently try to spend time writing some myself. Obviously I've been writing them on and off but I just wanted them to have a space of their own again as well. We start again!
»»âââ-ăăâââ-««
Rules:
-Headcanons and imagines only for now. Maybe I'll write a fanfic or two or a matchup event every once in a while but not normally -Only Character x Reader or Character x Reader x Character. -No NSFW currently. And I just mean nothing too inappropriate. If you're not sure, just ask anyway. I'll let you know -Don't request more than two characters unless its like a harem situation. -Try to check the masterlist and see if I've done certain asks before, just to save me time. It's not that big of a deal though -Don't be rude because sometimes I do have the time to respond to it. It won't be pretty. -Don't ask for race specific stuff unless you're black. Why? Because I'm black. And I also don't have the most time in the world to research every culture that yall show up with, even though I'd love to. -I have the right to straight up refuse whatever ask I don't want to do. Usually it'll just happen if I can't think of anything for it or I'm too uncomfortable with it. Typically not that big of a deal. »»âââ-ăăâââ-««
Notes:
-Platonic asks are not my forte. Don't ask me why. I don't know. -I'm so busy so I might not get to every ask in a timely manner. But I also get kinda lazy so feel free to just be like "Did my ask get lost? it was about _" to get me moving because I do have the habit of avoiding things. -I'm silly guys, feel free to talk to me. I don't typically bite. -If you have any ideas of fandoms I should get into, shows I should watch, games I should get into etc. Let me know! »»âââ-ăăâââ-««

Nenio is consistently the best and funniest companion in WOTR.
Her fangirling over Zacharias and Areelu had me wheezing.

One of the best things about making your pov character secretly an unreliable narrator is when the readers slowly start to realize that wait. Wait. Is it possible... there's more going on here than we thought??
And then just coming into the comments all innocent-like and whaaat??? What are you talking about?? There's nothing here that hasn't been here from the start! O.O
#every time I see a post about unreliable narrators I think of this and chortle to myself#returning readers have only themselves to blame when they fall for this with my stuff#considering how much I insist that selective fact relation isn't lying#not currently writing anything with an unreliable narrator; was just reminded of Pathfinding again#and how much I'm looking forward to (hopefully) revisiting it soon#(not writing a sequel; I started slowly reworking it as originalfic and am hoping to have time to focus on that more)#(currently cogitating on worldbuilding; really want to do more with the greensward)

Izumo x reader insert (modern AU)
This fic includes a 2015's ALVINNN!!! And the Chipmunks reference. Hope you like it.
It was the 19th November and you were resting a little in bed tired and stressed out by doing all the chores you were given by a home harmonizer robot your big sister(or mother) was recommended by a friend of hers. You just wanted to avoid that robot so badly since you just finished high school recently now but being the middle child, itâs not easy. Suddenly you heard the doorbell rang.
"(Y/n)! Someone is here to see you!" Your mother/adult big sister called out. "Oh, who could that be?" You asked and when you came downstairs, a nice brunette young man as in, your Naruto crush Izumo was at the door. "Izumo. What are you doing here?" You asked with hope. You developed a little crush on him since you binge-watched Naruto with your friends at their houses for weeks.
Izumo said "So basically, like, my best friend Kotetsu just helped me plan the coolest party of the year for my birthday next week on the 25th Nov, and yeah, I really hope you can make it. If not, Iâll probably film most of it to show you." He then gave you a light blue and lime green invitation for it. You just canât believe it! đ your anime crush Izumo Kamizuki just gave you an invitation and invited you to his birthday party for the next week.
You gasped in happiness and need for freedom "Izumo, you donât realize what this means to me . You are a glass of either fresh spring water or fresh sparkling mineral water in a dry, unforgiving desert." Youâre a ray of sunshine in a sea of miserable, foreboding clouds." But your mother/adult big sister said "You can stop now, (Y/n). Heâs gone." "Oh, well. Mom/(big sister's name), can I go next week?" You asked and begged "Please, mom/(sisterâs name). Please!"
"Iâd say yes, (Y/n), but is your homework done?" Your mum/big sister asked. "Yes, of course itâs done! Pathfinderâs in charge of my life!" You replied. Then suddenly "I strongly recommend saying no, (your mumâs name/sisterâs name)." "Nobody asked you." You replied but you were scared when Pathfinder has been upgraded but taller walked two steps towards you.
"Relax, (Y/n). Itâs only Pathy, new and improved." Your mum/adult big sister said to you calmly. "You upgraded again?" You asked in shock. "(motherâs guy friend's name) told me about it and I couldnât resist." She replied. "You have to stop talking to (motherâs male friendâs name)!" You protested. "It wouldnât be easily wise to let (Y/n) go to a birthday party on a school night." Pathfinder said. (School night for your younger siblings) "Is no the only word you know?" You asked the robot almost getting angry. Pathfinder then said calmly "No."
"You see that, mom/(sisterâs name)? All he knows is no." You said sternly. "Try to look on the bright side. Pathy can help you help your younger siblings get ahead in math." Your mum/big sister said with a smile and walked into the kitchen. You chuckled "Get ahead in math? Oh, thatâs just swell, mom/(sisterâs name), because, y'know, thatâs even better than a party with all the cool kids!" You said sarcastically getting mad. With that, the home harmonizing robot walked away to living room. Your smart older sister came downstairs "Ok, what are you planning, (Y/n)?" she asked while you were thinking. "Me? Oh, nothin'. Nothin' at all. Iâll just do what Iâm told. As always." You said as you walked away. Your older sister was thinking what you were going to do next.
timeskip no jutsu to next week on the 25th of November (the same birthday as Sai) 10 ish at night
You and all of your siblings were sleeping in your beds and you quietly woke up and got ready for Izumo's birthday party, you did your make up, did your hair with a hair straightener and picked a cute party outfit of your choice and crept downstairs to not wake anyone. (If you plan to wear heels at a party, put them on after sneaking out of the house)
You were thinking when you saw Pathfinder charging up for the morning after. "Ok, now. How do I shut you off?" You then pressed the red power button on the charging console causing the charging console and the robot to power down. "Yes!" You cheered quietly and chuckled a little. "Looks like I got the last laugh, Pathy." You then creep out of the house after you powered down the robot. Or so you thought when Pathfinder powered back up while charging. "Baby mode engaged."
The robot made its way upstairs to yours and your siblings room and opened the door realizing you werenât in your bed like your other siblings in their beds. He rings the alarming sound causing your siblings to wake up and jump out of their beds and says "Alert! Alert!" Your mum/adult big sister came in the doorway when she heard the alarm "Whatâs wrong, Pathy?" She asked. "Baby (Y/n) has escaped!" The apex robot replied. "Baby (Y/n)?" Your mum/big sister replied.
"Security protocol engaged!" Pathfinder then locked the windows then laser trapped your mum/big sister and your siblings one by one. " Lockdown engaged. Stay safe. I will retrieve Baby (Y/n)." The robot said as he makes his way from the house to track you down. "(Y/n)!" Your mum/big sister shouted.
Insert SpongeBob Meanwhile time card
You made your way to the address of Izumo's house as you could hear some music playing from a block away, maybe some Mac Miller, Snoop Dogg and 3OH!3 playing when you found the address and saw Izumo and the man same age as him with a bandage over his nose and dark black hair must be his best friend Kotetsu and the other third friend with Izumo and Kotetsu is Yamato who is a tall muscular built man with brown hair and wore a flannel shirt and some jeans with vans shoes.
"Gents, the birthday party has arrived." You announced happily and walked to the entrance of the front door. "Oh my God, (Y/n), you made it!" Izumo cheered. You let out a little giggle-chuckle combo "I wouldnât dream of missing the festivities. Hope you saved me a dance." You said with a cute smile trying to be flirty but actually cute mostly. Izumo laughed "Youâre so hilarious, you know that? Get in here!" He said inviting you inside. Then suddenly you felt the back of your hoodie being grabbed. You screamed as you were grabbed and being picked up by Pathfinder who unfortunately found you and tracked you down. You looked up at the robot "Pathy?" "Baby needs feeding." Pathfinder then fed you with a baby bottle, you resisted quickly "Pathfinder! What the hell are you doing? Baby needs to be put down! Put baby down!" You protested but the robot didnât listen and did nothing but respond "Time for a night time feeding."
The boys had a slight shock on their faces seeing you get embarrassed. Then they had an idea.
"This is so cute!" Izumo happily exclaimed. "Adorable!" Kotetsu agreed. "Get the camera, Kakashi, get the camera!" Izumo called out to Kakashi who was probably inside the party in his house ready to get the camera. Izumo, Kotetsu and Yamato weâre smiling despite the embarrassment you are having.
"Uh-oh. Did baby wet her diaper?" The robot checked you thinking that. "What? No! No, baby did not wet her diaper. Why the hell would you say that?!" You said in embarrassment. "Baby needs burping!" Pathfinder then repeatedly patted your back to burp you as if you were a baby, even though youâre not actually a baby, you then let out a burp (stuck out your tongue at the same time). "That did feel good." You said. And well, the boys started laughing on how cute your embarrassing turn of events is. "Time for beddy-bye." Pathfinder then placed a pacifier (Britâs and Aussies call them dummies) in your mouth which you then pushed out of your mouth. "Izumo! Just pretend this never happened! Never happened! OK?!" You shouted out loud for him to hear. "OK, (Y/n)! Iâll try not to, but itâs so cute and hilarious!" Izumo shouted back. "Aah! Iâm never going to live this down." You said in sadness being embarrassed as Pathfinder carried you all the way to your home. And just dare say, that your mum or adult big sister was so relieved that the robot tracked you and brought you back and was worried sick about you so as punishment, you would have to do all the chores but mostly help your younger siblings with their homework and chores. And good news is that Izumo filmed most of what was going on at his birthday party then posted some pics and videos on Instagram the next time you meet again.
the end.
I was watching Alvinnn!!! And the Chipmunks and was inspired by The App episode and I know how everyone feels being stuck in the house and not able to go events like your friends parties and stuff. đ€

i still want to tear my hair out thinking about how hard it is to escape the like. "boarding school/university" for magic sort of vibe when youre trying to functionally create a fantasy world from a time period where things like that weren't common practice. witch hat atelier (shirohama kamome guide me) does it well by using a guild/tradesman and apprentice approach and i like. like more power to her. but as i dabble in the concept of monastic/abbey styled situations alongside this, it's like. you start realizing how firmly entrenched magic school is in the public fantasy conscience
#and not even just because of That One Series#earthsea does it. kingkiller chronicles does it. diana wynne jones did it iirc. IM PLAYING A PATHFINDER CAMPAIGN BASED ON THE WINDING CIRCL#like it's easy to view peoples educations and trade experience before they were independent as something obtained through public school#and logically that would be the case for magic for those with aptitude (in my universe. everyone.)#but it's missing the point which is that for much of history education was not done in classrooms in this way#you had a guild. a trade. a master. maybe tutors#or you were part of an order as an adult#and that's the main character's situation. she becomes an adult and joins what's basically an abbey but for magic.#but she's also sort of an instructor?#anyways. magic school is a hard setup to avoid bc it feels so intuitive to a modern reader#school feels natural to us#it would have made a medieval person very itchy#mine

I write Men's Romance for people interested in relationships with multiple women. That is the umbrella genre that connects all of my work. There are also occasionally themes of a kinkier nature, but the storylines are contained within the context of a growing love story between multiple individuals.
I have 2 completed series - The Otherworld Academy and Avalar Explored. OA is an isekai series featuring a magical academy and a young man reborn as a Demon Lord who falls for classmates (and some of his teachers) while dealing with a wider universe. Avalar Explored is a fantasy world LITRPG inspired by a homebrew campaign I ran for my wife and friends - similar to D&D and Pathfinder (the games that shaped the world) it features a young man who is accidentally transformed into an Incubus and has to adjust to his new life. - Both series have Omnibus that allow for easier purchasing.
The two ongoing series are a Science Fiction Tower Climbing adventure with a cyberpunk tint - Singularity Tower, and the other is called the Rider's Dragon - a reversal of the dragon rider trope where the dragon is the MC. That story is a cultivation series from the perspective of a spirit beast. Book 4 is coming in late September, early October.

death in the family (2) / sully family x human!daughter/sister!reader
synopsis, dad and mom to the rescue. scared for the kidsâ safety, they agree to leave⊠without you?
p.s. i've seen your requests so far and i love every single one! i'm super excited to write them <3
(1) / (2) / (3) / (4*) / (5) / (6*- ur here! â)
+ chapters with an * beside it means that itâs following atwow plot line as opposed to disconnected scenarios
neytiri had a strong sense of premonition, one that could only develop when dealing with such troublesome children. she knew from the moment jake grounded lo'ak, he would try and do something to regain the freedom he lost.
her youngest son always manages to surprise her with his roguish innocence. not only did he go to a forbidden place, he didn't pull back the moment he laid eyes on the recoms and put his sisters in danger alongside him.
did he think all the rules she and jake gave them were arbitrarily made up?
"neteyam, update your sister on our situation." jake called over the wind. "we might be out late."
behind him, neteyam nodded and pressed his comms.
"lightning bug, this is pathfinder, come in." neteyam was always the best at keeping up code names. lo'ak often slipped in a 'dad,' 'mom," or 'bro' here and there, but as with all things, neteyam takes his father's instructions to the last letter. "hello?"
neytiri cast a confused glance to her husband. it was unlike you to not respond.
"come in, bug, this is devil dog. answer us." jake spoke into his comms urgently.
"did anyone see her before we left?" neytiri asked, pulling her ikran back to match pace with the two boys.
"no, mother."
jake shook his head, running through his memory for a glimpse of you at high camp. he grunted when he came up empty. "m'sure she's just sleeping or something. we got a bigger problem right now."
âi know a quick way!â neteyam yelled over the wind, guiding his ikran to a shortcut.
jake and neytiri dove behind him, hoping it wasn't too late for their children.
. . .
you awoke with a groan, brows creasing as the blur in your vision mellowed out.
"y/n!" tuk squealed softly, thrashing in her captor's grip. âyouâre bleeding!â
huh?
your eyes scan the circle you've found yourself in. the recoms got the children on the ground, bound by their queue or neck. faintly, you could hear spider's voice chatting with the commander.
and yes, you were in fact bleeding.
the bullet that grazed the length of your arm left a nasty laceration from your elbow to your shoulder. it burned like hot oil was carefully poured in a line on your skin, and ached like a ten day workout.
you began to sit up when a foot smashed into your chest. the wind was stolen from your lungs and you dropped back to the ground with a choked gasp.
you shot loâak a warning look right as he jerked against his captorâs grip. with an unhappy growl, he settled down.
âkeep her on the ground.â quaritch snapped.
quaritch. thatâs who this guy wasâthis avatar, rather.
âi hope you realize you almost killed three of my men,â the commander squatted on his hind legs but still managed to tower over you. âthankfully they were saved by that shit aim of yours.â
the three injured were off to the side, grunting in pain as they pulled your deep rooted arrowhead from their flesh. you remembered when you weaved blue and yellow, inspired by neytiriâs signature green and yellow, in the fletching of every single arrow sunken into them. removing them was a slow and painful process, the blade cutting just as much coming out as it did going in.
in a surprising revelation, you found yourself⊠thoroughly enjoying their struggle.
shit aim or not, theyâll remember the pain when they saw those blue and yellow tufts again.
you scowled, pushing the soldierâs boot off your chest roughly. they must have understood you werenât much of a threat in your throttled state, because they didnât move to restrain you further.
loâak hissed in naâvi. â(why didnât you bring the gun?)â
you scoffed at his impertinence. â(i thought the worst youâd come across was a viper wolf, not dadâs greatest enemy. why didnât you run away when i told you to?)â
a recom nudged your head with the barrel of their rifle. âhey. shut up.â
â(yeah, yeah, i know i was stupid.)â loâak cut you off, saving himself from further verbal assault.
â(that's right, and your stupid ass shouldnât have come back.)â you clicked your tongue.
loâakâs face was painted with something between guilt and stubbornness. â(i was trying to help you!)â
â(you had the others to think of!)â
âbutââ
"what would it take for you to shut up?!" quaritch whirled, irked from being puled out of his conversation (though it looked more like an argument) with spider. âitâs like a zoo in here, all the yipping and yapping.â
he stalked over to you, eyeing you curiously as he rested his hands on his belt. "matter of fact, why do i even need you?"
the recom behind you pressed the barrel of their gun firmly against your scalp. the distressed whines of tuk wasn't unheard by you, nor was kiri's uncertain promises that everything will be okay.
âhold off, lyle.â quaritch squinted at your face, scanning your features with a laser-like precision.
âdonât tell me⊠youâre that little brat that was always at his feet, werenât you? well, wheels is more accurate.â he laughed heartily, looking at his company in condescending awe. âman, that jake sully just keeps getting better and better.â
. . .
night fell and your situation didnât improve at all. but it didnât worsen, either.
in the night, pandora grew even more dangerous and the way the recoms were patrolling the area meant they werenât taking any chances underestimating her.
but then a call rang through. every kid turned their heads towards it. she was easily mistaken for the night noises of pandoraâs wildlife, but to her children, neytiriâs voice was instantly recognizable.
you heard a thudding off to the side but saw nothing. before you could even turn your head back around, an arrow flew past your head and into the skull of the man holding kiri.
green and yellow fletching. it was over for them.
the next moments happened in a blurâ
quartich pushed spider out the way, letting bullets fly towards the treetops.
loâak ripped the pin from a grenade, the burst of gas disabling some soldiers. he sunk his teeth into the recom behind him, tuk following his lead and doing the same.
once he took care of that, loâak launched himself onto the man holding you hostage, jumping onto his back and using the momentum to throw him off balance and face-first into the dirt.
âcome on,â he grunted, pulling you up and onto his back. you grit your teeth when he squeezed your injured arm, and he murmured apologies when he heard your pained heavy breathing. âtuk, come on!â
he grabbed his baby sisterâs hand. running off into the tall bushes and leaves, you caught the glint of neytiriâs arrowhead as she loaded another projectile into her bow.
you didnât know where kiri or spider were at the moment. still, your brain finally allowed you to pass out from shock and blood loss knowing your parents were there to get everyone to safety.
. . .
ââŠhunting us. heâs targeting our family.â
âyou cannot ask this! the children. everything theyâve ever knownâthis is our home!â
the words came in one ear, out the other. your head pounded, the thumping echoing in your chest, your ears... the whole world spun around you in a dizzying whirl.
âhe had our children. he had âem under his knife!â jake's voice sliced through the fog in your mind. you felt him shift beside you, his calloused hand lifting your arm as he rewrapped your gauze.
rewrapped? how long were you out?
âlook at this,â jake said, shaking your arm gently, his anger seeping through the tenderness. âhe didnât even hesitate!â
neytiri's voice cut in, louder now as she approached her husband. âmy father gave me this bowââ she choked on the words, âas he lay dying. and he said protect the peopleââ
âhoneyââ
âyouâre toruk makto!â neytiri's hoarse cry electrified the air, pained and anguished. âmajake, we must fight.â
âthis will protect the people!â jake pushed himself up, his frustration erupting, the words tumbling out in an rush of heat. âtheyâve got spider. that kid knows everything. if the people harbour us, they will die.â
in a rush of clarity, your eyes cracked open. still drowsy, the words took a while to finally register in your brain. if they harbor us? where are we going?
âoh, y/n,â neytiri gasped with relief, kneeling beside you and running her slender hand over your head. âyou are awake. thank you, eywa.â she whispered.
âare we leaving..? home?â your voice was barely a whisper.
neytiriâs shoulders dropped, her eyes unfocused. jake sat beside her, his arm wrapped around her shoulders in a silent promise of comfort.
âlook, i got nothing.â he whispered gruffly, low and worn, more to her than you. he met her gaze, a silent plea for understanding. âi got no plan. but i can protect this family. that, i can do.â
neytiri blinked tears from her eyes, her breath catching in her throat. jake pulled her in, his grip tightening.
âdad.â you cut through the tension, your voice unsteady as you sat up. with a bewildered look on your face, you recaptured his attention. âare we leaving?â
jake gave neytiri a look drenched with grief. he scooted closer to you, his palm resting on your cheek. his thumb brushed your skin, as if to soothe your doubt.
then, in a picture of irony, a father reassuring his daughter delivered a killing blowâ
âweâre leaving, baby. youâre⊠going to stay.â
â
âwhat?â the word tore itself from your throat, disbelieving.
the roof of the marui thundered under the feet of your siblings. done with eavesdropping, their protests rang through the air.
"you're leaving me behind?" you shot up, your feelings about the breach of faith plastered all over your face.
"jake?" neytiri's voice was sharp, a note of surprise in her words as she glanced at him, eyes narrowing.
"it's bad enough that we're not prepared for other environments." jake reasoned. "bringing a human there would make chances for uturu even slimmer."
"'a human?'" you recoiled, the sting of his words cutting deeper than expected. you, his daughter, reduced to just a human?
jake sighed, gazing at you helplessly. "you know i didn't mean it like that, baby."
âyou wanna 'protect the family' and youâre abandoning me?â you said bitterly, the disbelief palpable in your voice. âsuddenly iâm not a part of it anymore?â
jakeâs eyes narrowed, irked by your insinuation. âof course you are part of the family.â
you rolled your eyes. didnât feel like it.
âwhy were you even out there in the first place?â jake shifted closer, his eyes sharp as a blade as they bore into you.
âlooking for another reason to ground me?â you shot back, voice wavered as the hurt in your chest spread.
âwatch it, kid.â jake snapped, tilting his head dangerously. the command in his tone made you want to shrink, but you fought it down.
you massaged your temples, pain flaring up your arm as you were reminded of your body's current limits. jake reached out to you with concern, but you stepped back slightly, avoiding his touch. you couldn't face how pitiful he must look, not when the anger and hurt were still too fresh.
"dad, you're not serious." lo'ak came storming in. "you can'tâ"
"not now, boy." jake's words were clipped, unable to look his family's in their eyes.
"but sirâ"
"lo'ak." neytiri cut in firmly. do not push any further.
"y/n, you will stay with norm and max. that's final." jake said, his tone resolute but tired.
you meet jake's eyes and for a moment you wonder if this was all a bad dream and youâre still passed out on the floor from the gash in your arm. you wonder, did he make the decision lightly, or did he truly have no other options? you wonder if he thought you were old enough to be on your own.
did he realize you had no purpose outside of this family he welcomed you into? if you couldnât follow them, where else did you have to go?
âdad, iâŠâ you faltered, unsure of what you were trying to say. out of the corner of your eye, you saw neytiri clutching her head in frustration, her gaze fixed on you with silent pain.
âi can adapt. i promise. if thatâs what youâre worried aboutâŠâ you continued, the words spilling out before you knew what you were saying. you weren't above begging, not if it meant staying with the only home and family you've ever known.
jake clenched and unclenched his fists repeatedly, anxiety and desperation flooding his every movement. ânot like this, y/n. the ocean naâvi, they⊠they are more wary of sky people. even more than our own clan.â
your eyebrows furrowed. âiâll keep to myself.â you whispered, hope trying its hardest to cling to your promises.
he sighed, turning away. a weight seemed to settle on you both. âno, y/n.â
âyes, iâll keep to myself. like i always have!" you voice was rising, and your voice croaked as you pleaded with your father. "i wonât get in anyone's way. i wonât talk to anyone. i'll pull my weight too, iâll cook andââ
"no." jake's voice cracked, anger bubbling over. âi said no! you will stay with norm and max.â
âi donât want to stay with them.â you were reduced to childish retorts. the only thing you wanted to communicate was how much you needed them and it was flying over his head.
jake grabbed your wrist, lifting your arm slightly. he immediately dropped it when he saw your face contort in pain. âthat. that is the best outcome for a run in with this guy. iâm not risking any of you getting hurt, or worse!â
âand your solution is to leave me alone with him around?â you were jake's prideful daughter, something that was only ever a problem when you got into fights. neither of you were willing to back down. so you returned his screaming match with one of your own. âno one else here would care if i was captured, and you know it.â
jake frowned. âthatâs not true.â
"yes, it is. and you'd leave me here anyway!" your body couldn't decide which to choose: fight or flight? teetering between anger and distress, your hands trembled. âi donât have a clan or an avatar to fall back on!â
âitâs final. iâve decided.â jake's expression was unreadable, his resolve set. he cast a sideways glance at neytiri, who looked onward with silent disagreement. he ignored the churning feeling in his chest.
you laughed humourlessly. âi donâtâwhatâs so different about adapting to the water than the forest? itâs a learning curve iâm familiar with, i canââ
âyou think it was easy bringing you in?â jake's voice dropped to a growl, and he caught your gaze with a searing glare. âyou think it was easy raising you, here? iâm not doing that again.â
â
silence fell over the marui, the weight of his words pressing down on everyone. tuk held onto kiriâs hand, both girlsâ gazes stuck to the ground. it was a miracle loâak hadnât shoved himself into the argument. instead he was channeling that energy into pacing back and forth. neteyam was the only one strong enough to hold his head high, but a big sisterâs eye could catch the way he blinked too fast and his drooping posture.
anyone would see jake was protecting his family, but all you could see was your father abandoning you. was... raising you so much of a burden as he made it out to be?
âjake.â neytiriâs call was soft, a tinge of disappointment filtering through. she rest her hands on your shoulders, as if trying to ease you into something you couldn't understand.
you shrugged her off. a burning ball of emotion was stuck in your throat, and with every shaky breath, the dam was threatening to break.
âitâs⊠he made himself clear. iâm going.â you muttered, gulping the heartache back down to burn up in your stomach.
jake tensed up when you finally complied. he reached out to you instinctively, but his hand paused midair. âbaby, wait. please. you donât have to go now.â
âstay, y/n? donât go.â tuk whispered when she clung to you, her request a tether you couldn't bring yourself to break.
you felt claustrophobic. suffocated. like the universe itself was collapsing inside your chest.
"dinner?â neteyam offered a compromise, his voice tentative. ever the dutiful son.
when you looked at neteyam, all you could picture was that little kid who looked up to you as if you hung the stars in the sky. you rememberedâyou were still the oldest.
you glanced around the room at your siblingsâ quiet dejection. in the moment, you didn't want them to go but you didn't want to stay eitherâin any case, you didnât want to leave on this note.
âdinner.â you agreed, your response barely audible, snatching your effects from where they lay on the ground and storming out.
jake, stretched between guilt and uncertainty, began to start off in your direction. neytiri pulled him back, her grip tight on her husband's wrist.
âgive her time.â she said simply, the three words heavy with unspoken sentiments. she barely met her husbandâs eyes before stalking off.
the silence persisted long after you left.
. . .

This was a Christmas gift to me and my husband from our GM of our very first characters that we ever TTRPG'ed (Pathfinder) who commissioned this from @cutetanuki-chan. (The picture is from me taking a picture and cropping at a weird angle - the whole thing in its frame is stunning.) These two characters (Chrissy and Odhran) met when our game night people were like... hey let's try pathfinder. So I made a character and so did my husband and after meeting them, I was like... oh god... we are gonna get divorced. Lol. We were struggling at the time. And we made these characters and god, they hated each other so much..... but eventually found their way to being friends. But they were our first characters EVER. The next character my husband rolled up in this campaign (we needed to double up to round out a playable campaign), my rogue eventually formed a romantic attachment with. Then I made a bard for a totally separate campaign, and now we're both determined that he meet Chrissy at some point b/c within MINUTES of meeting my bard in a totally unrelated campaign, we were like, okay he's soulmates with Chrissy! But that's the magic right? Finding the parts of ourselves unexpectedly that can be completely accepting of other parts of our partner... even the parts of them that we thought we didn't like, want to be around, or understand to begin with. (CAUTION WARNING: let the reader understand, do NOT use this story to excuse abuse or bad behavior to try to fix a partner! This is an exercise that can ONLY be done with a feeling of absolute safety and trust between partners. We were not there when we started TTRPGS but got to a better place of trust due to his own personal work with therapy. But there were MASSIVE strides before I even trusted it. ) We joked tonight after our friend gave us this picture that Odhran (my rogue) saw this picture and was like oh GOD, what hell-fan of Chrissy (actress) did this? Why do I look like I'm worshipping her? GAHHH nOoOo. But....Odhran can also shut all the way up. :) What ultimately makes me as the player love this picture so much is probably the underpinnings of a romanticism depiction. These two characters, while they never and will never fall in love, in a meta sense, they were the gateway for us into several characters who did help us rediscover love again after years in a very difficult marriage, find a adhd hack into new relationship energy through RPing, and just provide us an outlet for a lot of intense emotional energy. And this artist, despite knowing NONE of this, captured its essence in a two completely non-romantic character portrait. @cutetanuki-chan you knew none of this and still managed to capture it perfectly. This picture will hang proudly in our house and I will enjoy explaining it to anyone who walks through our doors. Your depiction of HERO FORGE characters being so accurate is stupid impressive. Also shout out to our GM, Grace, who actively sought this out for us. What a perfect present. We couldn't ask for a better GM or a better friend. You're family and we love you so much.

König is Naturally Nerd!König
A lot of people suggest nerd!König (which is essentially regular König in my books) would be into DnD, or Star Wars, or Lego, but I disagree.
Normal and Nerd!König are obsessed with miniature armies. He has little models of airplanes and tanks that he puts on display in his room. He only has two World War models (and even then it's WW1), and those are the planes that Baron von Richthofen flew. Otherwise, he collects medieval minis and paints them.
He creates whole dioramas of them, and they're surprisingly good. He has the money to sink into his hobby, and it fills his time when he's not at work. He fidgets a lot, but he's gotten good at doing fine detail work. They're not award winning, but they're really quite good.
In addition, he's a major reader. If you want to know more about what König reads, check out this post here. If you don't want to read it, the gist of it is that König loves reading and reads all the time. He's probably the type to sniff and say the book was better than the movie. He's right, but he doesn't need to be so snobby about it.
Through the military, he has an extensive knife and gun collection. He can use all of them, sure, but he really doesn't need that many. He used to have only one room dedicated to them, but he's since had to move twice and torn down a wall most recently to make a big enough room for everything. He kinda sucks that way. He really takes up a lot of space.
However, Nerd!König didn't end up joining the military. He instead went into nuclear engineering and earned an excellent living to fund his expensive hobbies. He also ended up having more time to devote to his crafts, which led to...
More under the cut.
Nerd!König is a Snob
König is a pathfinder 2e type of guy. He's that pedantic. He'll have the rule books memorized, and he has links to download the pdfs ready at the flick of a wrist. He's ready to convert you. Your DnD supplies will be absorbed into his Pathfinder 2E.
A big reason he's into Pathfinder 2E is because he was introduced at a young age and so collected the supplies, but when he heard about the Wizards of the Coast scandals he decided he'd use that as his reasoning. He gets up on a soapbox about it whenever he can. He really, really hates Wizards of the Coast. It's a firey rage that burns within.
He also likes Warhammer. He's a disgusting Warhammer lover. He plays a ridiculous Adeptus Mechanicus army that he's painted himself. It's surprisingly good painting, too. Having painted Adeptus Mech before, I'm telling you it's really hard. He makes it looks easy with craft paint and crazy glue. He's disgustingly good at it. I hate him for it. How dare he be so good. He is genuinely a fantastic painter. That said, we saw what happened with the last Austrian painter, so maybe it's a good thing he stuck to painting minis.
Nerd!König also loves to collect ancient weaponry. To make it worse, he actually practises with it and has become pretty decent with it. He's feared among the LARPing community because he's known to be a fearsome competitor. He'd be more well liked if he didn't accidentally break people's wooden shields so often. As it is, he's not fully blacklisted, but he's skating on thin ice. He'd be banned for sure if it weren't for the fact that the forest on his property is amazing for LARPing.
Finally, he's into Renaissance fairs. He goes and does public sword fighting, once again, LARPing. He'll also show off his weaponry collections, and will gladly go on hour long spiels to anyone unfortunate to ask about the history of an item on his table. He is on good terms with the blacksmiths, and he's always having to pay the local seamstress to fix his clothing back in the traditional style. He will also go up to the ferret keeper and play with their ferrets, and then beg you to get some. He just wants a cute little ferret. Can't he have a couple? No, not one! They need playmates. You need at least three.
Either way, Nerd!König is a big silly guy. He's a bit friendlier and gentler than regular König honestly. He also is super passionate about his hobbies. He's so excited to show you his hobbies, and he really wants you to enjoy them too.
Just so you know, all these hobbies are expensive. Very expensive. It's a good thing he's making so much money, because otherwise you'd go bankrupt overnight, because, "Games Workshop released a new edition of the walkers! I need them for my army!"

Tactical Combat, Violence Dice and Missing Your Attacks in Gubat Banwa
In this post I talk about game feel and decision points when it comes to the "To-Hit Roll" and the "Damage Roll" in relation to Gubat Banwa's design, the Violence Die.
Let's lay down some groundwork: this post assumes that the reader is familiar and has played with the D&D style of wargame combat common nowadays in TTRPGs, brought about no doubt by the market dominance of a game like D&D. It situates its arguments within that context, because much of new-school design makes these things mostly non-problems. (See: the paradigmatic shift required to play a Powered by the Apocalypse game, that completely changes how combat mechanics are interpreted).
With that done, let's specify even more: D&D 5e and 4e are the forerunners of this kind of game--the tactical grid game that prefers a battlemat. 5e's absolute dominance means that there's a 90% chance that you have played the kind of combat I'll be referring to in this post. The one where you roll a d20, add the relevant modifiers, and try to roll equal to or higher than a Target Number to actually hit. Then when you do hit, you roll dice to deal damage. This has been the way of things since OD&D, and has been a staple of many TTRPG combat systems. It's easy to grasp, and has behemoth cultural momentum. Each 1 on a d20 is a 5% chance, so you can essentially do a d100 with smaller increments and thus easier math (smaller numbers are easier to math than larger numbers, generally).
This is how LANCER works, this is how ICON works, this is how SHADOW OF THE DEMON LORD works, this is how TRESPASSER works, this is how WYRDWOOD WAND works, this is how VALIANT QUEST works, etc. etc. It's a tried and true formula, every D&D player has a d20, it's emblematic of the hobby.
There's been a lot more critical discussion lately on D&D's conventions, especially due to the OGL. Many past D&D only people are branching out of the bubble and into the rest of the TTRPG hobby. It's not a new phenomenon--it's happened before. Back in the 2010s, when Apocalypse World came out while D&D was in its 4th Edition, grappling with Pathfinder. Grappling with its stringent GSL License (funny how circular this all is).
Anyway, all of that is just to put in the groundwork. My problem with D&D Violence (particularly, of the 3e, 4e, and 5e version) is that it's a violence that arises from "default fantasy". Default Fantasy is what comes to mind when you say fantasy: dragons, kings, medieval castles, knights, goblins, trolls. It's that fantasy cultivated by people who's played D&D and thus informs D&D. There is much to be said about the majority of this being an American Samsaric Cycle, and it being tied to the greater commodification agenda of Capitalism, but we won't go into that right now. Anyway, D&D Violence is boring. It thinks of fights in HITS and MISSES and DAMAGE PER SECOND.

A Difference Of Paradigm and Philosophies
I believe this is because it stems from D&D still having one foot in the "grungy dungeon crawler" genre it wants to be and the "combat encounter balance MMO" it also wants to be. What ends up happening is that players play it like an immersive sim, finding ways to "cheese" encounters with spells, instead of interacting with the game as the fiction intended. This is exemplified in something like Baldur's Gate 3 for example: a lot of the strats that people love about it includes cheesing, shooting things before they have the chance to react, instead of doing an in-fiction brawl or fight to the death. It's a pragmatist way of approaching the game, and the mechanics of the game kind of reinforce it. People enjoy that approach, so that's good. I don't. Wuxia and Asian Martial Dramas aren't like that, for the most part.
It must be said that this is my paradigm: that the rules and mechanics of the game is what makes the fiction (that shared collective imagination that binds us, penetrates us) arise. A fiction that arises from a set of mechanics is dependent on those mechanics. There is no fiction that arises independently. This is why I commonly say that the mechanics are the narrative. Even if you try to play a game that completely ignores the rules--as is the case in many OSR games where rules elide--your fiction is still arising from shared cultural tropes, shared ideas, shared interests and consumed media.
So for Gubat Banwa, the philosophy was this: when you spend a resource, something happens. This changes the entire battle state--thus changing the mechanics, thus changing the fiction. In a tactical game, very often, the mechanics are the fiction, barring the moments that you or your Umalagad (or both of you!) have honed creativity enough to take advantage of the fiction without mechanical crutches (ie., trying to justify that cold soup on the table can douse the flames on your Kadungganan if he runs across the table).
The other philosophy was this: we're designing fights that feel like kinetic high flying exchanges between fabled heroes and dirty fighters. In these genres, in these fictions, there was no "he attacked thrice, and one of these attacks missed". Every attack was a move forward.

So Gubat Banwa removed itself from the To-Hit/Damage roll dichotomy. It sought to put itself outside of that paradigm, use game conventions and cultural rituals that exist outside of the current West-dominated space. For combat, I looked to Japanese RPGs for mechanical inspiration: in FINAL FANTASY TACTICS and TACTICS OGRE, missing was rare, and when you did miss it was because you didn't take advantage of your battlefield positioning or was using a kind of weapon that didn't work well against the target's armor. It existed as a fail state to encourage positioning and movement. In wuxia and silat films, fighters are constantly running across the environment and battlefield, trying to find good positioning so that they're not overwhelmed or so that they could have a hand up against the target.
The Violence Die: the Visceral Attacking Roll
Gubat Banwa has THE VIOLENCE DIE: this is the initial die or dice that you roll as part of a specific offensive technique.
In the above example, the Inflict Violence that belongs to the HEAVENSPEAR Discipline, the d8 is the Violence Die. When you roll this die, it can be modified by effects that affect the Violence Die specifically. This becomes an accuracy effect: the more accurate your attack, the more damage you deal against your target's Posture. Mas asintado, mas mapinsala.
You compare your Violence Die roll to your target's EVADE [EVD]. If you rolled equal to or lower than the target's EVD, they avoid that attack completely. There: we keep the tacticality of having to make sure your attack doesn't miss, but also EVD values are very low: often they're just 1, or 2. 4 is very often the highest it can go, and that's with significant investment.
If you rolled higher than that? Then you ignore EVD completely. If you rolled a 3 and the target's EVD was 2, then you deal 3 DMG + relevant modifiers to the DMG. When I wrote this, I had no conception of "removing the To-Hit Roll" or "Just rolling Damage Dice". To me this was the ATTACK, and all attacks wore down your target's capacity to defend themselves until they're completely open to a significant wound. In most fights, a single wound is more than enough to spell certain doom and put you out of the fight, which is the most important distinction here.
In the Thundering Spear example, that targets PARRY [PAR], representing it being blocked by physical means of acuity and quickness. Any damage brought about by the attack is directly reduced by the target's PAR. A means for the target to stay in the fight, actively defending.
But if the attack isn't outright EVADED, then they still suffer its effects. So the target of a Thundering Spear might have reduced the damage of an attack to just 1 (1 is minimum damage), they would still be thrown up to 3 tiles away. It matches that sort of, anime combat thing: they strike Goku, but Goku is still flung back. The game keeps going, the fight keeps going.
On Mechanical Weight
When you miss, the mechanical complexity immediately stops--if you miss, you don't do anything else. Move on. To the next Beat, the next Riff, the next Resound, think about where you could go to better your chances next time.
Otherwise, the attack's other parts are a lot more mechanically involved. If you don't miss: roll add your Attacking Prowess, add extra dice from buffs, roll an extra amount of dice representing battlefield positioning or perhaps other attacks you make, apply the effects of your attack, the statuses connected to your attack. It keeps going, and missing is rare, especially once you've learned the systematic intricacies of Gubat Banwa's THUNDERING TACTICS BATTLE SYSTEM.
So there was a lot of setup in the beginning of this post just to sort of contextualize what I was trying to say here. Gubat Banwa inherently arises from those traditions--as a 4e fan, I would be remiss to ignore that. However, the conclusion I wanted to come up to here is the fact that Gubat Banwa tries to step outside of the many conventions of that design due to that design inherently servicing the deliverance of a specific kind of combat fiction, one that isn't 100% conducive to the constantly exchanging attacks that Gubat Banwa tries to make arise in the imagination.
#gubat banwa#ttrpg#filipino#fantasy#gamedev#writing#rpg#dnd#southeast asia#d&d#d&d 5e#d&d 4e#i will say#that part of the decision away from a d20 (because gb alpha used one)#is sheer hater energy on my part#like i just didn't want to#because its used by all these other games by white people and especially because its used by dnd#there is like#4 instances where you use d20s in this game

Something that I realized after browsing through Bogleech and then going into Pathfinder lore is the amount of evil deities associated with parasitism like Ghlaunder.
While parasites are no fun for the people infected with them. They do play a vital role in ecosystems and I am disheartened that natural creatures are so demonized.
Iâs like a neutral deity associated with the concept of symbiosis Including parasitism, mutualism, and communalism.
Who instead represents all different ways creatures can live with each other and isnât into turning people into Last of Us Zombies Fungi.
------
The unfortunate truth of it all is that though parasites serve a useful role in the world, it's always going to be seen as unpleasant due to the negative effects many parasites have on their hosts. It is all true, that the humble mosquito does not know it spreads malaria, nor does the leech have the capacity to consider the effects of its saliva on the wounds it causes, and the endless varieties of ticks and lice feeding upon the blood and skin of every species are no more malevolent than butterflies and pillbugs. Yet, our instincts tell us to swat and kill and destroy these creatures if we find them feeding from us, because despite the mosquitos actions being motive for survival, so is us swatting them.
Millions of years of evolution tell us that finding a parasite on our body is a problem which must be rectified as soon as possible, and the bones of billions who've died from such infestations is a sign that we're right. Predators play an important role in the ecosystem, as well, and in there is roughly the same push and pull; it is their right to prey upon creatures they catch, just as it is the right of prey to fight back and potentially wound or kill their attacker.
A Neutral deity that lauds parasites would recognize this and not begrudge mankind for it. All beings have a right to live, and oftentimes this requires the pain or death of another. Such is nature! Mutualism and symbiosis would be a much easier sell for a casual worshiper, but you could easily make a Neutral deity that represents all such aspects, including the unpleasant ones. The end goal for such a deity may be the creation of a truly unified ecosystem, where all beings work in harmony with one another as though they were the cells in a singular body.
NOTE: This hypothetical deity, and also myself, would like to remind the readers that despite swatting mosquitos being perfectly okay and an expected reaction, demanding the extinction of mosquitos entirely is a very very very very very bad idea. Do Not Do This. Let your dislike of parasites be rational, and do NOT get rid of a keystone species locking together thousands of different links on the food chain!

About Traiblazer!Reader
(When I say inherited from their mother I mean u imagine what color they have)
They used to belong to the Luofuo of the Xianzhou Alliance, and they also used to be Pathfinders of Lan, becoming Trailblazers because they felt that they needed more in life than just being in the Luofuo and being a cloud knight.
They are raposian, having 2 of the so normal fox ears and only 1 tail one of their ears is light blue while the other one is like their mother's, their tail is only light blue. They have long hair, most of the time braided, the top half is a light blue and the lower half is the color of their mother's, their eyes are like their mothers, and the same for their skin tone. They have a scar on their cheek and small fangs that are barely noticeable.
Their fighting style consists of using a pair of enchanted daggers that let them use different types of elemental powers, they can transform into a multicolored fox because of an accident that they had in the alchemy commission years ago. They wear a different outfit than the one that their trailblazer one while they travel with the Chain.
Their affinity to Fi is something weird because the sword acknowledges that they aren't their master, Fi doesn't blame them because of what the King is doing. They also have a grudge against Hylia for some reason. Prays to Akivilli when in hard times, but will also curse him out in hard times, they have a love-hate relationship with their Aeon.
Based on one of my favorite picrew's, also probs to my friend Dia for giving telling me how they imagine part of they imagine their Reader's skin tone and part of the hair to look like. Remember skin tone and the brown parts of hair and ears you can imagine it with whatever color you want.
Yeah, I like a little bit describing the appearance of Reader and giving them part of my imagination but who can blame me?
