Six years ago my younger sister and her husband were on their Southeast Asia trip. She called me and asked if I wanted to join them either in Sri Lanka or India. And next thing I knew I was booking myself a ticket to Sri Lanka. It was one of my most spontaneous and genius decisions, resulting in one of the greatest trips of my life. • • My older sister and father ended up joining as well, and it was one of the best family trips we’ve had to date. • • Facebook reminded me of this a couple of days ago, and it took me by surprise, because I wasn’t expecting it. But it was a fun reminder, even if it is a bit bitter since we can’t travel anywhere right now. • • So here are a few pics from my first few days there, in the capital city of Colombo. Freiburg, Germany. • • Have you ever gotten that feeling, when you arrive at a certain place, and something just clicks? Unexplainable and all consuming, it just feels right, like you and this place are meant to be. • • I’m talking deeper than just the regular infatuation of a beautiful city or village, I’m talking about how you can just see yourself in that place for the rest of your life, how something about it just gives you peace of mind and a sense of home. It is the way I feel everytime I visit London, and when I arrived at Freiburg I felt it there too. • • Besides being a beautiful city at the edge of the Black Forest, the people there are so kind and nice. It is also a green city, that pays much significance to the environment and keeps the streets clean - which only enhances its unique beauty. • We took a cable car up the Schlossbergbahn hill, and walked around the peak - and there is a breathtaking view of Germany, France and Switzerland. On the way back we walked down the mountains and picked some yummy berries, and even got a bit lost - which is always part of the fun and experience. • • • How about you? So yesterday I posted that fours years ago I was in Luang Prabang, Laos. And it was truly a wonderful experience. • • What really makes a trip great, are the activities we fill it with. Four years ago today I concluded my one month trip in Laos. It may have been a bit tainted by anxiety and traveling with the wrong person, but it is such an incredible country, that it helped me overcome it all. • • I hope to go back one day, for a chance to travel there without the bitter taste of anxiety and with the right person. Four years ago today. • Four years ago today I was in Vang Vieng, Laos. It is one of the most amazing, tranquil places I’ve ever been. We spent a whole week there, and it truly was great. • However, due to my anxiety and restlessness I had a hard time relaxing, despite the perfect surroundings. • At the time, it was filled with coffee shops and restaurants playing episodes of friends, and people lounging around drinking shakes and smoking. • I was going stir crazy from just watching others doing nothing. And as much as I wanted just to lounge around, I couldn’t. • I am an active person who needs to keep busy. And mixed with the anxiety, I just couldn’t enjoy the complete calmness of the place. • That being said, I would probably still go back there in a heartbeat. Although, I’ve heard it’s not the same anymore... • • • How about you? Do you enjoy lounging around on holidays? Four years ago today I was in Railay Beach, which is so tiny but also so much fun. We were there just for a few days, and could probably stay even longer. • • The tide would get so low, that you could walk along the beach for miles, where usually there would be water during the high tide. You can see in the pictures all the beautiful stones and rocks that were revealed from under the tide. • • One of my personal favorite thing about the place was the delicious Indian restaurant that we ate at ever evening? • • • How about you? Four years ago today I was in this little slice of heaven. Koh Phi Phi is one of the most beautiful, tranquil places I have ever been, and by far was my favorite island in Thailand. • • It is so tiny, but makes such a huge impact. Luang Prabang, Laos 🇱🇦 • Four years ago today I was in Luang Prabang, which is a beautiful village that basically looks like a French old town. • • While there we really got to do a great variety of activities. One of my favorites was walking up about a thousand steps (no exaggeration!) to a great view point, from which the first couple of pics in this post were taken. • • Another one, was when we ate at this local restaurant and really loved the Curry, so when we spoke to the cook, who was also the owner, he agreed to give us a cooking class the next day! We went with him to the market to pick out the ingredients and everything, it was a great experience. • • And one more, is the Kuang Si Waterfalls (which you can also see in the pics). I think that they are by far the most gorgeous waterfalls I have ever been to. It has amazing pools in the bottom by the falls, and upon climbing tuns of steps, there were also more great pools at the top too. • • • How about you? Four years ago today I was on a motorbike loop in Thakhek Laos. It was like driving through a Windows screensaver. • • It was truly a moment of peace and tranquil. No worries in the world, just driving through the endless nature. One of my favorite memories and moments. • • There is something so unique and soul balancing about driving like that, with no time limit or pressure.
