Four years ago today. • Four years ago today I was in Vang Vieng, Laos. It is one of the most amazing, tranquil places I’ve ever been. We spent a whole week there, and it truly was great. • However, due to my anxiety and restlessness I had a hard time relaxing, despite the perfect surroundings. • At the time, it was filled with coffee shops and restaurants playing episodes of friends, and people lounging around drinking shakes and smoking. • I was going stir crazy from just watching others doing nothing. And as much as I wanted just to lounge around, I couldn’t. • I am an active person who needs to keep busy. And mixed with the anxiety, I just couldn’t enjoy the complete calmness of the place. • That being said, I would probably still go back there in a heartbeat. Although, I’ve heard it’s not the same anymore... • • • How about you? Do you enjoy lounging around on holidays? WOW! Deuce’s mama here. I can’t believe that 4 years ago today I was sitting at the computer for what felt like hours filling out an application for a baby boy that would change our lives forever. I think I included everything right down to my organ donor status on that application 🤣😉 and was a bundle of nerves. Would we be blessed with a special baby? Were we the right family for a special baby? What on earth am I thinking going back to diapers for life? So many fears, nerves, and excitement. Little did I know not only would this little man change my life, he’d end up changing our whole world and become a little furry force for good in the rescue world. Yet another Facebook memories reminder. • • Four years ago today I was in Hoi An. While there, we rented a motorbike and drove it to a a place called Marble Mountain. It was quite the climb to get to the top, but it was so worth it. The place included a beautiful peak with a breathtaking view, caves, temples and Buddha statues. It was an amazing day and wonderful experience, wish I could go back there again. • • Later we also too a cooking class where we learned how to make papaya salad and noodles soup. Cat-Ba, Vietnam. • Yet another destination from my Southeast Asia trip, four years ago today. It was just over a month in, and I was beginning to feel very home sick. I was suffocating despite the endless open, gorgeous, views. • I was traveling with my then boyfriend, and we were already struggling. There were good times, but looking back on it now, not enough. Something was too much and something else was missing. • I needed my best friend to talk to about the heaviness, about the pressure. The constant fog in my mind. I needed a comforting hug from my mum, to remind me of who I am and where I come from. I needed home. The security and surety of my four walls. • No matter how much fun I was having, and how great the places I saw were, I couldn’t be preset 100%. Something was pulling, tugging at me. Always nagging at the back of my mind, and I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. • I couldn’t commit, but I also couldn’t leave or stop or say enough. So I fought through it and kept going. But sometimes fighting through isn’t the best course of action. Sometimes it’s the worst thing you can do. Because while some things are worth fighting for, others should be let go and not dragged on. • But despite it all, I was having a great time. How could I not? I was in one of the most beautiful countries in the world. But I would love to go back to correct my experiences, try it out without all the weight pushing me down, and the chains holding me back • • How about you?
