You’re a Wizard.
Remus bit his cheek, the juvenile words of “Detention Prewett” were on the tip of his tongue.
No, he reminded himself harshly. That’s Fred and George Weasley. Not Fabian and Gideon. I’m not a Prefect, I’m the Professor.
Remus grit his teeth.
Luna Lovegood floated into the room and Remus saw unwelcome visions, the present melting away to accommodate the past. Regulus Black was there, guiding Pandora when she was batting her lashes at Xenophilius Lovegood.
Draco Malfoy was an amusing mixture of Lucius and Narcissa. He stuck his nose up and raised one manicured brow like his mother, but his ugly words and prideful manners were all his father.
Remus laughed guilelessly, what was wrong with him. Fraternising with the enemy, Moony? A very familiar voice chirped in his head.
It hurt so bad.
Every time Hermione Granger raised her hand, to the chagrin of the rest of the class, Remus saw Lily Evans. Her fierce intelligence and determination a weapon to dismantle the prejudice faced by Muggleborns. Lily would’ve loved her.
He wiped his face with tired hands.
Honestly, Remus was never meant to survive this. He was simply unfortunate, unlucky. An anomaly.
Hah, now suffer.
There was Neville Longbottom, with ears that stuck out like his father and a shy smile to match his mother’s. I’ll watch over him now, Remus promised the smiling Alice and Frank in his memories, apologising for the years gone by.
Then there were the little things.
Snape always caused a spark of his old Marauder spirit to overtake his senses. It also brought forth very vivid sounds of two devils whispering into his ears. Potter and Black, always at the crime scene.
No, no. He batted that thought away before he could spiral.
Remus found himself shocked by the streaks of white in Minerva McGonagall’s hair, which 15 years ago that would’ve caused an uproar. Not even his own greying roots had caused him so much sadness.
His heart ached when he saw Madam Pomfrey pressing her knuckles into her strained back. How much had he missed while hiding from this wretched world?
But what struck a raw nerve was Harry Potter, of course.
The toad green of his eyes and the bird’s nest of his hair. It had been so long but all he could see in the young Potter boy was his friend. A friend who had betrayed him, but his friend nonetheless.
I know you, he pursed his lips to prevent screaming that when he was addressed as Professor Lupin and not Unc’e Moo’y. He had to remind himself that he wasn’t the one who could get Prongslet to burp or take a nap anymore. He was the weird, mismatched man for a teacher.
You know Harry doesn’t think of you like that. Ah, Lily, wise as always.
The James in Harry Potter stuck out like a sore thumb, much like his hair, when he whizzed across the quidditch pitch with innate talent, when he couldn’t hold back his tongue while talking to Snape, when he faffed about in lessons. But it pained more to see Harry stand up for his friends, like his father had always done, and when he went searching for trouble despite being explicitly warned against it.
Oh, how I miss you Prongs.
He sat back in his chair, creaky and hard as it was. There was only one person he hadn’t found in his students.
Remus closed his eyes.
Sirius Black grinned at him from behind his eyelids. Miss me, Moony?

You stayed in Moody’s comfort for what felt like hours. You could have stayed for days more, but eventually the strain to your still throbbing limbs and aching body was doing you in.
Moody practically herded you to the couch, allowing you to sit down, and after some push back with him trying to get you to lay down, he eventually gave in and allowed you to sit across from him. Pillows propping up your sides, a horrible tasting healing potion, a cup of tea for a chaser, and a blanket rested on your lap later, you two figured starting from day one was the best course of action.
“October 29th, 1981. What happened?” Moody asked in a careful but stern tone. You weren't used to him being so gentle with you, you guessed twelve years apart could do that to a person. You gave a sigh and set the teacup aside, relaxing back into the makeshift throne and looked at the ceiling, eyes closing as the pain began to disappear.
“It was a botched mission. Someone sold us out.” You explained slowly.
~~
“With Mad-Eye out of commission sick, we need someone to go in his place.” Gideon told you, having knocked on your door late at night with Fabian at your gate keeping watch. Gideon took the paper that etched out your address, Lupin’s handwriting scribbled on the crumbled paper, as the elder twin set it in your outstretched hand. With the Fidelius charm that protected your home ever since Voldemort marked you for death, you made an impulsive decision to make Lupin your secret keeper.
You hadn't spoken to Sirius in months after your argument and subsequently, your break up. Peter and you were already the Potter’s secret keepers, the last logical step would be Remus. Especially after what happened to Marlene and Dorcus just a few months prior. He was hesitant at first, but when you pushed he caved. He always made it easy for you.
(“You weren't suspicious?” Mad-Eye demanded and you quickly shook your head. “No, if Lupin had to write my address down it meant something. He refused to do it every time he'd been asked, said it was too easily given to others.”)
You snapped your fingers, and the paper burned to ash at your feet. “I didn't know Moody could get sick.” You tried to joke, and Gideon gave you a grimace and Fabian looked back at you two. Your lips twitched. The twins aren't joking? That's slightly nerve wracking.
“So? What do you say?” Gideon implored, and you nodded, biting your lip.
“Let me get dressed.”
~~
“They came to your house at midnight to recruit you for a mission?” Moody asked in a shocked and angry tone. “One you weren't briefed on? My mission?” He implored and you gave a small nervous smile, to keep the peace.
“It wasn't the first time if it makes you feel better.”
“Far worse.” Moody practically shouted and you winced. He huffed and lowered his voice, arms crossing and leaning back in his seat. “So what next?”
“Well, I got ready and we left to get to the rendezvous point. It should have been simple, just ambushing a few dark wizards couldn't have been much harder then what we had been doing. The tip said there should be three, two already there and one coming later with what we assumed to be supplies we could garnish.”
~~
“I don't see anyone.” Fabian announced as you three sat among the trees. His wand was to his throat, so even with him across the clearing his voice was transported to your ear, where the weird snake ear clip they gave you relayed his voice. The twins had always been making trinkets and inventions, ever since you first met them, that was one of their defining traits. That and they were absolute children, who tested them on you any chance they got.
“Shouldn't there be people here by now?” You asked, pressing your wand to your jugular, and you heard shuffling before Gideon spoke up. “Maybe we're early?”
(“If you felt it was off you should have left.”
“Would you have?”)
Suddenly there was a loud sound of apparition behind you. You snapped your head around and went silent. Fuck.
There before you were five death eaters and they didn't seem ready for a simple trade off. Fully decked out in battle gear, they began to walk around the clearing and muttered things between themselves.
Then, a voice boomed through the forest. “Alastor Moody!” He called into the clearing. You knew that voice immediately, your stomach dropped. Antonin Dolohovs. “Moody, come out my old friend!”
You looked to your sides and peaked at Fabian who tightened his grip on his wand, then to your right and saw Gideon already looking at you. He gestured down hill, as if telling you to run, and you refused. Shaking your head you looked back at your left and the other Prewett twin seemed to have the same idea. You pressed your wand to your neck and lowered your voice, as Antonin went on a manic rant.
“We need more men. One of us has to get someone.” You implored before you quickly hitched your breath as one of the five Death Eaters got too close to your hiding spot.
“Gideon, you do it.” You heard Fabian command and Gideon gave a huff.
“We should send the kid.” He hissed back. “We can stand our own.”
“Send {L/N}? The girl who is supposed to be in hiding straight to the rat infested Ministry? No chance.”
You held your breath as your back nuzzled closer to the tree root you hid in. The closer he got the louder your heart blared in your ears. You took a deep breath as he began to slip past the root and almost spotted you. That was, until Fabian recklessly shot a spell at him. Everything happened in slow motion.
Gideon raised his wand, mid apparition, watched as Dolohov raised his wand and shouted. “Crucio!” But he couldn't stop, apparating away from the field as his brother wailed.
Fabian fell to the floor, and you covered your mouth. Quickly shooting your hands to your ears and your body shook out in terror at his blood curdling screams.
“I found another one!” One of them shouted and grabbed you by your arm, dragging you out. Tossing you on the ground by your limp friend. You shuttered and quickly stammered to your feet, hurrying to back pedal away from them, before your back fell against Antonin’s chest. Quickly, you tried to rectify your actions, but he wrapped his arm around your shoulders and tucked you closer. You squirmed and hissed, stomping back to try and hit your heel to his shoe.
It worked and he flinched hard enough for you to get out of his grasp. You went for your sleeve but froze when you looked at the manic wizard and saw him holding up your wand. He had snagged it in your tussle. “Fuck...” You whispered and he bellowed a laugh.
“Moody sent you instead, huh? Pretty thing you are, can't possibly have been on your own for longer than a year.” He taunted but you kept your expression mute. The less he knew about you, the better.
“Wait, sir.” One of his lackeys spoke up and you stifled a wince. “That's {Y/N} {L/N}.” He declared with a shocked laugh. “Voldemort would be ecstatic if we brought her to him.”
Antonin looked you over before he wet his lip and fiddled with your wand. “{L/N}, hm? Your father has done a lot for our cause.” He gave a sickening curl to his lips as he pressed the wand to your neck. “Thank you for your service, darling. Let's get you home.”
Before you could even formulate a plan, one of his other lackeys pointed their wand to Fabian.
“No!” You screamed, shoving past Antonin and running towards the two, but halfway there and the words already left his lips. Avada Kedavra. Your entire body froze up as your eyes locked with Fabian's, and you watched the light leave them. You stood there, horrified. The men around you didn't even see you as a threat. They allowed you to stand there, talking among themselves.
You felt pathetic. Without a wand you couldn't do a thing. You found yourself wishing you studied wandless magic, because you were truly as weak as you felt. Just a girl. Waiting for the other shoe to drop. 'What's your last resort?’ You heard Alastor’s words echo in your ears. Run.
So, you ran. Bolted for the tree line. Alastor always told you, if you had no other choice, you were young. ‘Strip your battle gear,’ You heard him as you tore off the blackened leather wrap around your chest, vaulting over an overgrown tree root. Tossing your bulky boots and sharply turning your direction as you heard their shouts after you. ‘Get out of eyesight, go one direction, leave evidence of the contrary.’
You stumbled to a small river and looked around. Their voices that were once fading outgrew closer. You were breathing heavily, your socks were stained and one bloodied from a sharp rock cutting your toe, too filled with adrenaline to notice. You looked around before you took the bloodied sock and wet it, chucking it across the body of water before turning sharply on your heel and ran across the tree line to hide behind a moss-covered rock.
You held your breath, closing your eyes tight and remembered his number one rule. ‘Never panic.’ So, you sat there. Their voices and footsteps passed, and eventually you heard splashing as they ran across the river and soon you couldn't hear them at all. You waited a little bit longer before you looked around. You had no wand, no plan, nothing. All you could hope was that Fabian still had his.
You shakily rose to your feet and began to stalk back.
You hadn't realized just how far you had gone. When you made it back, the moon was in the middle of the sky, and Gideon was still not back. You kneeled down by Fabian's body and turned him over. You gave a sigh of relief when you saw his wand. You kept your hand on his chest, it was still warm, like it was taunting you. You thinned your lips and raised his wand to the sky. “Expecto Patronum!” You declared.
You were weak, so was the disobedient wand, struggling to focus on the good in your mind. You waved your hand, and the fox finally appeared. “Take this message to Lupin.” You whispered softly. “Ambushed. Fabian, dead. Gideon, status unknown. May be splinched.” You panted out. “Running. Five looking for me. Antonin Dolohov.” It's all you could muster, quickly dismissing your patronus and looking back to Fabian. “I just... need to rest.” You whispered as you felt yourself slowly fall against his stomach.
You didn't know how long you were out for, but the first thing you heard was Albus’s soothing voice. You stirred.
“There you are.”
You turned to look at him and grimaced, slowly lifting yourself off of your friend and shaking to stand. Dumbledore walked over to help support you. You could have sobbed out, letting your body fall against his chest. You didn't even have time to wonder why he was here, not Remus or Gideon. “H-he-”
“I know. I know dear child.” He hushed and ran his hand up and down your back. You shook and sobbed in his arms, and he looked across the field.
Albus pulled back and you looked up at him threw glossy eyes, arms still outreached and resting on his forearms, looking for any semblance of warmth and comfort. “We found your letters.” He told you carefully. “We know you have been in contact with Regulus Black via concealed letter since you graduated. Before his passing.”
The heat left your face. What? How did they find those? How did he know? And why was he bringing this up, now?
“Sir, I-”
“Voldemort knows as well.”
You almost fainted. “Is that why?”
“He is after you? Yes. Now, I have a plan to keep you safer than I have. Keep this conversation renewed in your mind, so one day, we will be able to use this connection.”
“What are you talking about?” You croaked, looking over at Fabian’s body in a daze. This felt like the cruelest form of whiplash. “Professor-”
“This is for the better, {Y/N}.” He muttered against your temples you sniffled. “What is?” You croaked, and he raised his wand to your head.
“Obliviate.”
~~
“And that was the last thing I remembered.” You sighed and grabbed your teacup, holding it to your palm for warmth. Moody seemed to be a little slower as he realized what was happening.
“Albus Obliviated you?” He asked in a breathy way, you slowly nodded. “... and you've been alive, all these years?”
“Would seem so.” You mumbled and picked at the helm of your shirt. There was a silence, it wasn't awkward, but it certainly wasn't comforting.
“Lily, James, and Harry?” You croaked out and when Moody grimaced, your heart broke.
“The boy is alive.” Moody offered and you nodded slowly, trying to gather yourself. Your voice cracked as you began to speak. “Sirius took care of him, yeah?”
Moody frowned harder and you narrowed your eyes. “No... he didn't abandon him, did he?” You prayed to whichever of the cruel gods was above you that it was a joke.
“He was, until recently, imprisoned in Azkaban.” He mused and your shoulders fell in shock, eyes wide.
“I- you- I-” You sputtered out. “Whatever for?” You implored and leaned forward.
“He sold out the Potters and... killed Peter Pettigrew.” He spoke carefully, knowing how close you two were, slow and delicate. Your eyebrows furrowed and your lips parted slightly.
“... what? Peter is... is dead?” You whispered in shock before your eyes widened. “Wait- Sirius killed Peter?!” You bellowed and snapped up to your feet.
Alastor stood up and walked towards you, but you began to pace.
“Why would he possibly need to kill him? And he would never sell out the Potters! He'd sooner die! How did he even manage to tell Voldemort!?” You practically shouted and Alastor scoffed. “A secret keeper can tell anyone.”
Then, your eyes widened, snapping over to look at Alastor. “Moody- no, Peter and I-” Then it hit you. It hit you like a bludger to the chest. Your air left your lungs.
“Moody, Peter and I were the Potter’s secret keepers.” You whispered in a shaky voice. Moody's expression stayed blank, but his false eye began to flicker side to side showing he was deep in thought.
“Merlin...”
“Peter would never, he wouldn't-” You stopped and had to think about everything you knew about Peter. He was a coward, but he was bold. He was meek and quiet, but he was confident with you. He was always charming and sweet, but you had heard from Mary and Dorcus how they saw him as slimy when he didn't get what he wanted.
The more you thought about him, the more traits you came up with for him, the more evidence there was for the contrary. Did you ever truly know Peter Pettigrew? Years ago, you would've laid down your life on the fact that Peter was trustworthy, honest, brave and kind. But the more you pondered it, he was always those things to you. Just to you. You covered your face in shame. “No...”
Moody walked up and patted your back as you tried to come to terms with it all. “But he- I- Rem! What of Remus?”
“The Lycanthrope?” Moody tutted and you glared up at him. “Don't call him that.”
Moody nodded with an eye roll and gestured to the seat for you.
You walked back over and sat down. Moody beside you. “After your disappearance, Albus called an emergency meeting. We gathered, and Albus told us of you and Fabian's death. That Gideon was leaving the order and going to America. Molly was inconsolable.”
~~
“No! No no no!” Molly sobbed into Authur’s arms, Albus looked down solemnly at his hands.
A scoff came across the table. “That's it? That's all we get?” Sirius snarled and shot to his feet. “Who did it?” He boomed across the table. He was tired of losing people. But losing you, now, that was a new kind of pain. One he didn't want to discover quite yet, so he lashed out in anger. He hadn't felt like this since he heard of Regulus’s death.
“Who!?” He demanded as Albus kept a solemn and pitiful look. It burned Sirius up inside.
“Antonin Dolohov.” Remus spoke up from across the table. He was looking down, eyes bloodshot and clearly distressed. He was in his sleep wear, having been woken up late at night by a glowing blue fox. He could hear what she said over and over in his head. When he got there and found Dumbledore, looking down at Fabian. There was blood, and Remus could smell it. Dark magic and you.
“Ambushed. Fabian, dead. Gideon, status unknown. May be splinched. Running. Five looking for me. Antonin Dolohov.”
“How the fuck do you know that?” Sirius sneered and Remus closed his eyes. “She sent me a Patronus.”
“Of course she did.” He snapped at Remus, slamming his hands on the table. “Of course she'd send it to you, wouldn't she? I bet that makes you feel real special, getting her last words.”
Remus gawked at Sirius in pure shock. It felt like he stupefied him to his chest. “And what's that supposed to mean?” He suddenly snapped back and stood as well. Alice was quick to nudge Frank, both parties standing up to make sure the two didn't jump across the table and shred each other.
“Do you think I'm daft? Do you think I didn't notice the way you looked at my Fiancé, Remus?” He bellowed across the room and Remus gave a laughing scoff. “This is how you want to have this conversation, Sirius? Now?” He snapped back and Sirius gave an incredulous laugh.
“When else? She's fucking dead, she can't come save you now.”
“You've gone mental!”
“No one worth being sane for left!”
“Maybe if you hadn't left her, this wouldn't be happening!” Remus shouted and that seemed to physically stun Sirius. “If you hadn't pushed her away until she hit her breaking point, until she had to come to me of all people, you could be at home right now waking up to her! But you didn't, you failed her Sirius.” Remus cut and cut as deep as he could. Sirius was silent for a moment and his mouth grew dry. Suddenly, he picked up a plate and threw it at Remus, the latter just managing to sidestep it before the Black stormed out.
Alice tutted and Remus looked down at her, breathing heavily. Slowly, he noticed the looks of pure horror on everyone's face. He knew he had gone too far. He cleared his throat and muttered an apology, turning to quickly leave.
Through all the chaos, no one noticed Peter leave moments later. He was walking down the street. His hands in his pockets and head down. Lost in deep thought, about you. No one truly knew the snake that was Peter Pettigrew. He was a people pleaser, he wanted validation and clung to the biggest bully in the yard like a vise. Originally, that was why he wanted to get to know you. You were James Potter's childhood friend, but you also managed to befriend several of the most influential Slytherins and purebloods of their school years. You were confident, unashamed to be you, the opposite of him.
The more he got to know you, however, the more he truly cared. He loved his friends, he loved them all, but there was only one he'd fight for. You. Foolish you. You swore to him you would give your life for the Potters, for Sirius and Remus, himself included, but he never wanted it to get this far. When he first found the letters between you and Regulus, he felt hope. That maybe, just maybe, you were like him. Buying yourself time with information.
He hoped that when he brought these letters to Voldemort, he would finally be convinced of your worth to the cause. That he would lend him more time to let him convert you. Then the dark lord sent out a notice for your capture; he knew he had made a mistake. He should have de-charmed and read the letters himself, but it was all he could think of. Your safety, with him, like he always promised.
Last night was a fluke. A fluke that cost him more than he was willing to put on the line. It should have been Moody. That's what he knew, Moody, and the Prewetts. They should have been the ones to die that night. Instead, it was you. You lost your life, as you always promised, for the cause.
The cause? The cause. The cause that sent in children to die like cattle. His dearest friend falling to the hands of a god he placated. You died for the Potters. For Black. For Lupin. You died for him… Anger bubbled under the surface. The charm was broken, he would go to the Potters to repair it tonight. Then, he would be there the next night, with the dark lord by his side. He wanted them to hurt. To hurt like he was, to ensure they had no one else. No one, like him.
~~
“But that leaves one thing that I do not understand.” Moody challenged and you rolled your tongue. He opened his coat and pulled out a long box, holding it out to you. You narrowed your eyes before he opened it, revealing a wand. Not any wand, your wand. You gasped and reached for it, before he quickly shut it closed. You glared at him, and he flicked the box onto his lap. The box looked worn, like it had been in his pocket for years. It made you feel warm. He has been keeping you close this whole time. You were not forgotten. But clearly, he planned to make you work for it.
“What is it?”
“What was in those letters? And why were you talking to the youngest Black?” He leaned closer, trying to use the same techniques he taught you about interrogation. You rolled your eyes, you can count on one hand the number of times you lied to Moody since you were 16, you didn't plan to keep counting. Four times.
“He was telling me things. Things about Voldemort’s plans, what he had done and who he had done it to. In exchange, I kept him updated on Sirius, I promised to keep him safe. He also kept me up to date on a few Death Eaters I had known in school. I want to tell you, but I feel I should talk to Dumbledore first. I feel I deserve a proper explanation as to why this happened to me.” You muttered bitterly and then your face scrunched up in a pout. “I also have a certain cat to see.”
“Cat?”
“Glasses.” You mumbled and Moody shook his head in confusion. Tossing the box on the table and you quickly snatch it, opening it up and pulling out your wand with a sigh of relief.
“Until further notice, you are to be on house arrest.”
“What? That can't be true! Isn't Voldemort gone?” You scoffed, crossing your arms.
“There are some who believe otherwise. Regardless, you are dead, the minister is still working through a story to tell the world about your reappearance.”
You scoffed and rubbed your temple. “And what of Harry? Who has he been with?” You challenged and Moody frowned.
“His mother’s sister.”
“That monster!? No, Moody, I must see him!” You begged. “I have no idea what they could have done to that boy! He deserves to be with family!” You stood up sharply and Moody scoffed.
“The boy is with family!”
“No, for Merlin’s sake he is not! I am his family! Sirius and Remus! I don't care what anyone has said, Petunia Evans is a wicked monster of a woman! I have heard Lily’s horror stories! I am his Godmother! I demand to see him!” Your voice filled the entire house. Lily had spent most of her school years protecting you from your family, you have left her son for twelve years, unable to protect him from her family. He deserved a home, you don't care what people seem to think, people like her could not change.
“And what a Godmother you will be, your home has no wards protecting it, you have nowhere to take him, and your vaults are locked until your Godson turns 18! You must wait until the minister announces you are safe to resume your life!”
“This is absolute shite!” You snapped and stormed towards the stairs like an emotional teenager. “I am going to my room!”
“And stay in there!” He snapped back as your footsteps stomped up the steps and the sound of a slamming door rang through the house.
Even after that argument, Moody couldn't help but sit down and smile at the fireplace. You were annoying and unruly, and he has missed that spunk.
~~  “Make that five.” You muttered to yourself. You walked over to the radio and turned it on. You muttered a small enchantment on a pillow, and it began to levitate. You pushed it out the window and jumped onto it. It began to fall quickly, before you transformed. The sudden shift in weight slowed the descent significantly. You landed in the grass and hurried out into the field. Making sure no one could see you, being a fox was fox was fine, but being a silver, fox is what raised eyebrows. Sorry Moody, I have to see my Harry.

Headcanons I’ve become obsessed with:
•Slytherin Dorcas Meadowes (I know some ppl like her in Gryffindor but Slytherin Half-Blood DM just makes me feel things man)
•ADHD/bipolar James Potter (hear me out, I’m bipolar and I just see a lot of the characteristics and signs subconsciously in focus when ppl are writing James)
•Pandora and Evan being twins (yeah pandora as a Lestrange can be vibes but there is just something about Reggie having the rosier twins at his side)
•Narcissa and Regulus positive relationship (she loved and mourned him your honor)
•different ethnicities/nationalities for all the characters (desi James and French Blacks and Welsh Remus and ughhh they all just hit different when they aren’t standard copy and paste media)
•unhinged and insane rosekiller (no explanation needed)
•genderfluid Sirius (not everyone’s cup of tea but let’s be honest, it heals the hurt teen in me that wanted to hear ‘they’ but only ever got ‘her’)
•Peter and Marlene besties (it’s hurts to think about the canon of it, but god do I love them)
•fat Lily Evans (mother. My queen. Whenever I feel shitty about my thighs rubbing together I look up fanon lily art and tell myself she’d think I was a masterpiece too)
•tattoos (every single marauders era character having so many tattoos centered around their friendships and relationships and things that make them happy)
•Sirius supporting Jegulus (bc healthy sibling relationships are okay to strive for)
•the black sisters being in ANYTHING AT ALL (Bella and Andy and Cissy are my Roman Empire)
•raising their kids in a village together (Harry and Neville and Draco and Luna just being loved and cherished by all the adults)
•‘side characters’ in the era making appearances?? (Alice and Frank and Emmeline and Gideon and Fabian are my loves too)

@wolfstarmicrofic 3rd: Mistletoe
582 words
If You Kissed Me Now, I Know You'd Fool Me Again
Last Christmas - Wham
It was bound to happen at some point.
And Remus thought he could handle it by now. Time had done its thing, and he had moved on.
“Oeh, Remus and Sirius are under the mistletoe!” Hestia exclaims, pointing to somewhere above the boys’ heads. She's been dating Peter for a little over six months now, so still new to their group. There are certain things from their past that she doesn't know.
Mary, who's hosting the party and is responsible for hanging the mistletoe, looks panicked. “There's no need, no need!” She yelps. “We can just ignore it! You don't need to do anything, we'll just pretend nothing happened.”
Hestia blinks. “But you guys said that everyone who ends up under the mistletoe together has to kiss!”
“Not when it's Remus and Sirius,” Gideon hisses.
“They… have a bit of a history,” Fabian adds.
“Oh,” Hestia says. “I'm sorry.”
“It's okay.” Peter wraps an arm around her. “You didn't know.”
“In any case,” Lily says. “If we all agree, we can make it so that it doesn't apply to Remus and Sirius.”
“Oh, come on,” Marlene scoffs. “Like it's a bloody crime to not kiss under a mistletoe! If you don't want to bloody kiss, then don't bloody kiss! It's not a bloody law.”
“It's not a law,” James agrees. “But it is a rule. A Christmas Rule. But-” He raises his finger before the others can protest. “Rules have exceptions. So we can all decide together that Sirius and Remus are an exception to this rule.”
The others nod in agreement.
Remus exchanges a look with Sirius, who gives him a small ‘can you believe this?’-smile, before he turns back to the others.
“Please you guys,” Remus says, rolling his eyes in exasperation. “We broke up five years ago. I'm sure that by now we can handle an innocent kiss under the mistletoe between friends without it completely messing with our heads.”
“Yes,” Sirius agrees. “It's been so long ago, and we've moved on. It's no big deal.”
Remus turns to Sirius, and gives him a ‘let's get this over with’-look. Sirius shrugs, so Remus steps forward and places a hand at the back of Sirius’ neck, softly pulling him in. Sirius responds by placing a hand on Remus’ waist as he steps closer.
That should've been their first warning, really. How natural it still goes, how automatically they come together.
Sirius’ lips are soft, warm, and still so familiar. A warm feeling coils in Remus’ stomach and spreads through his entire body. A feeling of belonging, of coming home, of ‘Oh, hey, there you are. Where have you been all this time?’
Sirius wraps his arms around him, and, hardly being aware of it, Remus melts against him, like his body somehow knows these are the arms he belongs in. It's like a knot in his chest that he didn't even know was there loosens, and he can finally completely relax as everything is finally right.
Remus’ fingers grip Sirius’ hair a bit tighter, and when had they even moved to his hair? He feels Sirius lightly suck on his bottom lip and a spike of arousal shoots through him as he involuntarily gasps against Sirius’ lips. It's a delicious, addictive, impossible combination between calmness and comfort, and excitement and exhilaration.
They suddenly break apart and pull away from each other in shock. Faces flushed and lips slightly parted, they stare at each other with wide eyes.
“Well, shite.”

HP canon debater & canon fanfics writer
I am in my 30s, genderfluid - she/they - Scandinavian, but live in the UK, and a long COVIDer/ME/POTSer!
On this blog, I am (mostly) a canon-compliant Marauder fanfic writer - who likes to discuss the canon - and I am currently working on a long fic from 1971-1981 called: When we were up to no good.
More about my ambition below, but long story short - I just want a LONG fic that's not Wolfstar, that's a faithful interpretation of the canon, and which tbh isn't overly about sex or the usual fanon stuff. It's just four great friends; an 'enemies-to-lovers' love story; a war and a betrayal.
I mostly ship canon (especially Hinny, Romione, Jily) because I am boring, but I adore Prongsfoot and Sebinis, and I’m not anti most non-canon ships if they are true to their canon characterisation.
I will argue and discuss the canon with anyone who's interested. If you don't care about the canon, fine, but you and I probably won't enjoy each other's posts very much.
I don’t support JKR’s views (Read: I AM EXTREMELY ANTI HER VIEWS). I regularly question whether I should just abandon the fandom because of her (I have stayed away in the past), but then again, I discovered a lot about my own gender fluidity through the fandom, so it’s all very complicated.
I started writing When we were up to no good because I wanted to write a story where:
Sirius and James are best friends, inseparable and extremely talented
Remus and James have a solid friendship; not just Remus and Sirius
While Sirius and Peter take a bit of time to become close, Sirius ends up closer to Peter than Remus (at the latest) by the later stages of the war.
Peter is very much part of the Marauders, and there’s nothing obvious (to Sirius and James) to suggest he does a 180. Nevertheless, as readers who know what happens, we can see the small stuff that lays the foundation for the betrayal
James and Sirius are bullies! This isn’t a story trying to ignore their bad sides
Remus’ personality is affected by his lycanthropy - he has three great friends and that’s it: James, Sirius and Peter. He does not stand up to his friends (much) as he cannot afford to lose them
Lily struggles to adjust to the wizarding world given her blood status and she struggles with her friendship with Snape. She loves him so much but she’s not blind to his friends and the path he’s being led down
James and Lily have arcs that both make us understand why she disliked James so much, but also understand how the two are rather similar in their own way. The relationship, when it happens, should feel solid and lasting.
James does not go around declaring his love for Lily at every opportunity. It doesn’t fit with the canon
Not every OOTP member are in the same year as the Marauders. In my story, Marlene is 10 years older (and Molly’s best friend), Frank and Gideon are 6 years older; Alice and Fabian are 5 years older; and Dorcas is long gone from school etc.
Frank and Alice starts dating after Hogwarts (not everyone has to start dating at school)
There's lots of (hopefully canon-compliant) plot and character development. And it’s a long story! I want to make justice to their story and not rush it (but I don't want it to feel dragged out)
There is as much fun and fluff and comfort and hurt as I can get away with while feeling I can call it canon-compliant
There are plenty of Easter eggs and things we know happened in the canon, such as: Bertha Jorkins as a source of Hogwarts gossip; the Whomping Willow becoming off-limit, the newly built abandoned Hogsmeade house slowly becoming known as the Shrieking Shack, Mundungus Fletcher finding himself banned from the Hogs Head ca 1975; the 1974 World Cup and more.
That’s the ambition. I’m not by any means an experienced writer and I’m learning as I go. If this is something that interests you, then cool! Absolutely engage as much or little as you’d like with the story! I love geeking out over canon and writing!
I post extracts on here quite often! You might call it self-promotion - I call it oversharing - something I do in all aspects of my life! 😂

From Regular Wednesday To Regular Whimsday
(I still haven't watched past 41 in OUAW, I keep just restarting it, so for the OUAW gang this is just some unspecified time in the swamps of Hither.)
It starts with Witchlight, of course. A patch of mushrooms, a mysterious artifact that could reportedly "open doors to new worlds of possibilities", and the whims of a 20 year old with ADHD and the ability to write whatever the fuck xey want.
And so the artifact shatters in the patch of Witchlight, and Carnival LeCroux find themselves faced with six deeply confused, highly concerned, and bafflingly identical humans.
"Well this is diffrrrent," Torbek says, scratching his head. "Isn't it usually uuus who Witchlight messeees withhh?"
"Must've been that orb thing!" Kremy searches the mud below them by poking his cane around in it.
"Roman, what is this?" The human in the dark shirt and blue-striped tie asks the one in the white-and-red royal-like getup.
"Don't look at me." Roman points at a human with a similar but more elaborate outfit of green and black. "Whatever this horrid imagining is, it must be Remus!"
"Oh, thank you, brother, it is horrible here! But, I didn't do it! Maybe good ol' Daddo did? He's been a frog before, frogs, swamps-"
"Please, Patton would never bring us somewhere this gr-oss!"
"And I really only looked like that because we were talkin' about Frogger." The human in the lighter blue shirt with the gray covering tied around his neck says, wincing a little and adjusting his glasses. "Virgil? Do you know where we are, kiddo?"
"No." The human in the patchwork purple and black hoodie is tense, ready for either fight or flight (probably flight, based on his general vibe). He looks around, eyeing Carnival Lecroux. "And those guys seem way too active to be any imaginary constructs. ... I told you guys we shouldn't have let Janus convince Thomas to have another glass of wine tonight! We're probably in some... weird nightmare because of it!"
"Oh, blaming me, what a surprise." The final human- well, maybe not. While most of him looks human, half of his face is covered with scales. His cheek has a natural slit implying an ability to unhinge his jaw quite wide but only on that side (so he probably can't actually, because his other cheek would be completely screwed if he tried), and his eye is bright yellow with a slitted pupil.
"Slit pupil means he's venomous," Frost warns his friends. "Right, Gricko?"
"Oh, yeah, yeah. I've never seen a snake-folk before, though, actually."
"He's barely a reptile-folk at all!" Kremy points at the kind of-human. "Either fuckin' commit or don't!"
"Oh, okay, gettin' some strong language here! Let's uh, elt's tone that down, how about, huh?" Patton looks at Remus. "Kinda leaning towards this being you, now."
"What, like I'm the only one who swears between us?! Ro-bro here-" Remus slings an arm around his brother, who quickly shoves it off. "-is the one who came up with Bitchmas!"
"I was in a heated debate! I'm just very passionate!"
"You're a potty-mouth! Even more than me!"
"I have to disagree, Remus. Your deodorant alone is all the evidence I need to contradict you."
"Mmm, but does contradicting me really matter if no-one cares to pay attention, Logan?"
"Oooooh, they've got drama." Twig climbs down from Gideon's shoulders. "This is just like those trashy major images!"
"We are not trashy!" Roman looks at his brother. "Well, most of us are not trashy. And we are not from some... major image!"
"Roman, I don't know that you need to justify us to the imaginary child."
"I'm not a child! I'm a Twig!"
"As in your name?"
"Yeah!"
"Then those are not mutually exclusive concepts."
"Alright, alright, enough of all this!" Kremy points at Logan with his cane. "Y'all explain yourselves right now so we can get a fuckin' move on!"
"Boy, lotta f-bombs being thrown around by this guy." Patton plays with the sleeves of the hoodie around his neck.
"Why would I explain? The only possibility is this is happening within Thomas's mind, so I see no reason to-"
"OH, GREAT FLYNN RIDER'S SMOLDER! Logan, there is another possibility! A whimsical, fantastical, impossible possibility!"
"That... is already a contradiction within itself."
"We... have been TRANSPORTED TO ANOTHER WORLD!" Roman strikes a pose, one arm aloft in the air and the other held close t his chest as he gazes up into the sky.
"That is absolutely impossible."
"Uh... I dunno." Virgil looks down at the mud and swamp ooze clinging to his boots and pants. "I do feel... weirdly solid, right now."
"Yes! Some kind of incredible magic has taken us OUT OF THE REALM OF PRETEND and into a true fairytale!" Roman's eyes positively sparkle.
"First of all, magic does not exist."
The entire Carnival Crew look at each other. These people are either completely insane, or from what sounds like the worst world ever. No magic is like no stones for building, no wood for burning, no air for breathing.
Logan continues. "Second of all, if we have been somehow transported, beyond all possibility and the very logic that makes up my being, where is Thomas?"
Gideon puffs on his cigar. "Quit talkin' between yerselves! Just answer Kremy's fuckin' question, man!"
"The... alligator-man did not ask a question. He told us to explain ourselves."
"Oh-ho my gods! He's worse than Frost!"
Frost doesn't show if he's offended or not. He simply goes, "Mmm."
"I don't care what you say, Logan-"
"Not new information to me."
"-I am going to treat this as a grand magical adventure! Clearly we have been taken away to a world of magic and monstrosities to fulfill some grand quest, and these uh... strange creatures, are the proverbial tutorial for our journey!"
Gideon leans down to Kremy's ear. "Can I punch 'im?"
"Not yet, Gid. But probably later."
"Mmph, fine."
Roman points at the other party. "My good sirs! We are the Sanders Sides, a group of uh- what's the word you use, Logan?"
"Fine, I shall play along until a reasoning more aligned with myself is presented by someone who will actually be listened to. The word I use is Metaphysical, it simply means not actually physical beings."
"Yes! Metaphysical adventurers from another world!"
Frost leans in, intrigued. "What exactly do you mean, you aren't actually physical beings?"
Logan speaks before Roman can give his own explanation- likely for the best, as the words 'Well, nerd,' were clearly to be Roman's next input to the conversation. Logan, instead, matches the energy of Frost with his clear explanation.
"Well, to put it simply we are personifications of various aspects of Thomas's personality and mental processes. Our main function, and reason for existence, is often to externalize an issue that would normally be resolved through an internal examination and investigation."
"Wow, that's uh- that's really quite interesting. And yet you all take on these uh, these-these roles, and personalities, beyond your intended representations?"
"Yes, and the... severity, of these individualizations has increased drastically over the years."
"So you've had a-a growth cycle! You've developed your minds to contain intricacies and um, and greater depth of character, literally."
"Well- yes, I suppose that is not an inaccurate way of stating it, but again we are not individuals. We are not actually capable of fulfilling many of the requirements considered for actual-"
"OH MY GOSHHHHH!" As Patton cuts Logan off with a joyous scream, Logan's huff of indignation goes unnoticed by all but the fascinated Frost. Instead, all attention turns to the creature who has stepped out of the bushes. Giant round eyes, soft and fluffy fur-feathers, a little beat that the leg of a frog is quickly swallowed into.
"I'm going to cry," Patton breathes, hands clasped up by his mouth.
Logan clears his throat and adjusts his glasses. "It is a very adorable creature. And apparently docile, which I assume means it's with these people."
"OH, of course she is!" Gricko throws himself at the adorable owlbear, clinging to her neck with a hug as she muzzles her face into his. "This is my daughter Hootsie, Hootsie T. Cutesie-Grimgrin!"
"Don't you mean pet?"
Gricko looks at Logan with horror. "No! She's my daughter, and a very bright little girl, oooooh Hootsie, he didn't mean it, they must not have adoption in whatever world he's from."
"What? Of course we understand the concept of adoption, but-"
"Well y'all said you ain't got magic where you're from, so it ain't too unreasonable to assume you're lackin' a buncha other stuff as well!" Kremy gestures at Logan with the ground-end of his cane, flinging swamp muck onto the human's shirt.
Logan sets his jaw and looks Kremy in the eyes while flicking the muck off. "Our world lacking in nonsensical magic does not mean it lacks basic concepts such as adoption. I was proposing a correction because, while it is clear anthropomorphic animal-human hybrids are a normalcy here, that... is just a bear with an owl face."
"Hey! You keep shit-talkin' our niece, I'm gonna punch you right in the body!"
"I am not-"
"AWWWWW, you guys think of each other as family?"
Kremy taps the eyehole if his skull cane topper. "Well, I dunno if-"
"Hell yeah we're a family!" Gideon grabs Hootsie, and by extension Gricko, and holds them both in a hug. "Been travellin' together so fuckin' long an' know so much about each other, what else could we be?"
"I mean we could be a group or uh-"
"Ooooooh, but Mr. Kremyyyyyy, Torbek thinks of you all as faaamily."
The screams of the entire collective, Sides and Carnival alike, could deafen someone unused to either party. Twig and Roman especially.
"Oh-ho, geez, man! We forgot you were here!" Gideon thumps Torbek on the back. "You gotta stop doin' that!"
"He does that a lot?!" Vigril, adrenaline leaving him, drops out of his pose to bolt and sinks deep into his hoodie. The words come out more like spittle, forcing their way through gritted teeth.
"Ooooh, Torbek doesn't mean to. People just forget Torbek exists."
"That's not a terrifying notion at all." Janus keeps his cane hoisted up and arm cocked for a swing, just in case. "There's nothing alarming about a seven foot tall glowing monster who can completely vanish from notice without even trying."
"I knew he was still here!" Remus twirls his morningstar and walks over to Torbek, burying his face in Torbek's closest patch of fur and taking a deep sniff. "You reek! It is delightful!"
"Oooooh- huh? Wait, reeeeally? You find Torbek deliiightfuuul?"
"Oh, abso-lutely! What is that smell, I have never whiffed it before! Is it your deodorant? What flavor is it called?!"
"Uuuuuuh, what's deodorannnt?"
Remus blinks up at Torbek with a grin absolutely carved into his face. "You're going to be my new best friend. Sorry Janus!"
"I don't care at all." Janus examines his "fingernails", despite the presence of his gloves. "The title means nothing to me."
"You love me!" Remus begins to literally climb Torbek. "Now let me see these glowing drug implants! This place is a wealth of new ideas!"
"Please do not encourage my brother," Roman says with a look of disgust.
"We ain't, I think he's just encouragin' himself. And trust us, we've tried makin' Torbek a little more presentable."
"Yeah! When he was all tiny in my inn, he got a nice bath and makeover! But it got ruined as soon as he fell out." Twig holds up her tiny satchel-sized inn for Roman to see.
"Your- oh, look at that! Now that is the kind of whimsy and fantastical magic I was looking for!"
"Speaking of looking, let's look for a way home." Virgil is no longer quite so pressed into his hoodie, but the hood is still up over his head. "What is Thomas going through right now? You guys said when I ducked out, things got bad. Now we're all gone!"
"Oh, sweet Tatiana's beignets, he's right! Thomas could be in serious peril!"
"That's assuming our roles as facets of his personality still apply to us at this moment. Given that we have physical forms-"
Remus's head snaps around and he shouts, "You're all aware of your own breathing!"
Everyone splutters and gasps and makes general noises of upset as suddenly Breathing becomes a conscious effort.
"And we've all got heartbeats!" Remus giggles and claps his hands as even more displeasure rings out, and he simply turns back to trying to part Torbek's fur around the implants and see the scars. Torbek shifts uncomfortably, but his ear twitches and his eyes glaze with a bit of relief- Remus is unintentionally helping scratch a few itches and clean some gunk from Torbek's fur.
Virgil has his hand over his heart. "Is mine supposed to be racing this much?"
"Well, everyone has a different resting heart rate, Virgil. Allow me to- oh my goodness. Ahem. No, that is likely because your, well, you, has spiked with Remus's comments."
"Hhhnnnnggg..."
"Okay, Virgil, now would be the time to utilize those breathing exercises you've taught Thomas."
"Little easier to say than do, Logan!"
"Well, simply try."
"Yes, and if the racing nature of your heart causes you other health problems, Gricko may be able to help." Frost gestures at the goblin who, when Torbek had frightened everyone, had dropped from Hootsie's neck and landed head-first in the soft muck of the swamp. Gricko puts up a single thumbs-up, still quite stuck and dazed, though his nose peeks out just enough for him to breath without worry of suffocation.
Logan blinks. "He, is your doctor?"
"Not exactly, he is uh- let me pull him out, actually, he may want to correct you."
Frost does not move to pull Gricko up- but up Gricko comes anyway, a shhhhhplop! following some invisible force yanking him from the mud.
"Oh, thank you, Frosty," Gricko says, his voice becoming mumbled and somewhat slurred at the last word. "Anyway! Um, yes, I am not exactly a doctor, I am a druid. I can help with some basics healings but not everything."
"Like Torbek's various raaashes."
"Ooooh, you have rashes? Where?!"
"Remus, you will get rashes if you touch them," Janus says, reaching up with his cane and swiftly pulling Remus down to the ground. "Having a real body means you can actually get diseases now."
"Oh, Janny, you're saying that like it's a bad thing!"
"Which means real, symptoms? Including things like death?"
"I still don't see the issue here."
"Okay. Does anyone have a leash?"
"Ooooooh, yes, please."
"Eugh."

Day 4 - Prompt: Evoke @pandalilymicrofics
February Daily Series - 963 words
<<<Previous Part OR Start Here
Lily eyed the four blokes blocking her way suspiciously. This impasse started about ten minutes ago and three aisles over with Remus distracting her from reshelving the returns with a long-winded story about a pair of “lost ships.” He clearly thought that it was the perfect allegory for missed opportunities, but it sounded particularly absurd to hear from his lips.
Then, Sirius appeared from nowhere and steered the conversation toward social media stalkers, which was apparently a little too on the nose for Remus. When she’d finally slipped past them, James stopped her in the next aisle to ask if she was attending the Yule Festival tonight, and when she said “yes,” he proceeded to incorporate her into their collective plans. Lily managed to duck into the last aisle and reshelve the remaining four biographies in her hands, only to find all four of them blocking her exit afterwards.
“What‘s this then?” she demanded, propping her hands on her hips. “I haven’t seen you here in weeks,” Lily pointed out to Remus before eyeing Sirius and James, “and the two of you are rarely indoors for more than twenty minutes.”
She gestured vaguely at the small stack of books in Regulus’s hand. “He’s the only one who seems to know what a bookshop’s purpose is.”
“I don’t know why they’re here, but I wasn’t going to turn down a chance to buy books,” Regulus admitted with a shrug. He glanced between Sirius and Remus curiously. “Why are you here?”
“We,” Sirius said, gesturing between himself and Remus, “are here to visit with Lily. Since I’m only in town for a few more days, I thought it would be nice to spend some time together. Evoke a little friendly comradery.”
James nodded avidly, which wasn’t at all suspicious. “Right, and I’m here to buy Regulus books for the ride home. I just figured you might want to join all of us tonight.”
“All of you? And how many is that meant to be?” she checked.
“My parents, Sirius, Remus, Regulus, me, Peter, and Pandora,” James replied, ticking the names off of his fingers. “Yeah, I think that’s it.”
Lily frowned as she went through the list internally. “So, is that four couples? And me?”
“Oh, no! Pandora is my flatmate from London, and she’s coming to meet James,” Regulus assured her. “I haven’t even met Peter yet.”
“He’s a friend from uni,” Sirius replied quickly. A little too quickly.
“Remus? What’s going on here?”
Remus rubbed the back of his neck and grimaced. “A coincidence?”
“If you say so.” Lily flailed her hands at the blockade until Regulus ducked behind James and Remus stepped out of her way. “I have work to do. Can whatever you’re plotting wait until tonight?”
“So, you will join us?” James asked, rocking on his heels like a small child.
“I’ll be at the festival. If I run into the lot of you, so be it, but I’m not committing to wasting my whole night following you idiots around,” she said, rolling her eyes at Sirius’s scoff. Spinning on her heel, she glared at Remus pointedly. “If I find out you’re trying to set me up again, and I will find out, you will not like the consequences, Remus John Lupin.”
“Definitely not,” he agreed.
Sirius looked gobsmacked. “John? Remus John?”
Lily strode away with her head held high and her arms swinging at her sides. She was confident in two things after that confrontation: Remus wouldn’t dare attempt to replicate the Gideon and Fabian incident from uni and the combination of James and Sirius was asking for trouble. As if she didn’t already know those two were as brilliant as they were foolish. She just wished that they didn’t drag Remus into their nonsense.
And me. Leave me out of this. Whatever “this” is.
She busied herself straightening the display tables out front until the quartet of chaos left. The last thing she needed was to be caught up in one of their “incidents.” The Potters may be dear friends of Mr. Lupin, but their son and his friends set off her red flag alarm. Individually, they were fine, but together? Pure chaos.
“Lily? Phone call for you!” Alice called, waving from the back office.
She waved back as she reached for the handset at the register. “Thank you, Alice!”
“Hello, this is Lily, can I help you?”
A long silence followed. It wasn’t one of those creepers that breathe into the receiver, or even the empty mechanical silence of a telemarketer who hadn’t connected yet. This was…shy.
Lily toyed with the old, misshapen cord that connected the phone to the wall. Mr. Lupin refused to replace it with a cordless or headset because he was afraid they’d lose it. The man could be such a dinosaur for only being fifty-five.
“Hello?”
“Oh, sorry. I wasn’t expecting…I mean, you caught me off-guard, that’s all.” The voice was both timid and defensive, but slowly lifting in volume.
“Alright, what can I do for you?” she repeated, keeping her tone as professional as possible.
“I was looking for a book about…never mind, you probably don’t have it.”
The call ended abruptly and left Lily staring at the archaic device in confusion. It stung a little to be dismissed so quickly, which was stupid. She hung up the phone and shook her head clear.
Leave it. Just a weird one, that’s all.
Except it nagged at the back of her mind the rest of the day. The woman’s voice was strong, but she’d rambled as though her thoughts were scattered on the floor and puzzling them together was too much effort. The hang-up was likely from her own embarrassment for being caught daydreaming, and yet…she couldn’t help wondering who she was.

Witchlight characters described by someone who is a second-hand member of the fandom (idk the difference between canon and partner's headcanon)
@scary-spaghetti-enjoyer
Torbeck:
- Straight jacket
- Sad
- Wet skrunkly meow meow.... thing(?)
- Idk what they are
- Owlbear? Homebrew? Bugbear? Kobold with a hair condition?
- Experimented on in past
- Little spoon (rip Frost's eyes)
- Based on looks alone, they're either very smart or very insane
- I think they look like a swell fellow :)
- "[Torbeck] look like if you do so much as breathe a single molecule on them theyll disintegrate into a small puddle of tears"
- "they look like they make the laminated sheet wobble sound unprompted and constantly"
- I originally was using he/him for them, but then I copy/pasted the tumblr meme and thought they/them fits them, so personal hc time
- Idk I just like characters that have gone through so much hurt that they no longer feel like they have a gender or romantic/sexual orientation (projection)
- I know nothing about what experiments happened to them, but either way the scientists probably weren't nice and probably referred to them as an object or something
- Maybe it/its, but only if you're close and they trust you
- I JUST REALIZED BUT THEY KINDA LOOK LIKE LUDO'S (LABYRINTH) WEAKER LITTLE SIBLING
Morning Frost:
- Tiger (of the gay variety)
- Dating Torbeck (gay)
- Wore suit to autistic test (gay)
- A (gay) sorcerer (I thought he was a monk??? Or at most a fighter?? Apparently he's not though, the (noncanon(?)) temple thing he went to was not for monk)
- "This is my boyfriend Torbeck, and this is Torbeck's boyfriend Gideon."
- Chronic pain (especially in his knees)
- This is a personal hc but I feel like he's either GNC or just dresses feminine every-so-often :3
- Breaks the laws of big cats and purrs
- I looked it up and tigers can communicate with their ears, so I'm imagining he wiggles them lots when happy
- I think Brutus told me this, but I also saw that tiger saliva is antiseptic, so he can literally kiss all better
Gideon:
- Married to Kremmy (Idk if this is canon or not)
- Hot (Fire genasi)
- Hot (I've seen fanart)
- Probably a fighter or barbarian
- I think he looks like Hellboy kinda
- He also looks like if my human AU version of Remus Sanders (Sanders Sides) was a demon
- So I can't help but think "Dumb stupid himbo🥰" whenever I see him
- Everyone else has an angsty thing, so this is from my own thoughts, but he probably has body/muscle dysmorphia
Kremmy:
- Has cane
- Rich looking
- Crocodile (or alligator, idk)
- Lets Frost use cane when his knees hurt extra
- I have no clue why, but I think he's an artificer or something, idk
- Maybe a rouge, because his fanart gives con-man vibes
- I want to look it up, but I must stay strong (so my partner can tell me instead:3)
- Angsty thing: he has no lips how he gonna kiss kiss :(
Gricko:
- When in doubt (Grico or Griko) use both (Gricko)
- "A single [dad] who works two jobs, who loves [his] kids and never stops"
- "The reason I've always felt so outcast in my friendgroup is bc apparently they're all in a polyamorous relationship and i didn't know"
- Commitment issues (canon)
- Idk anything else
- Whenever I imagine him, I just see Nott the Brave from Critical Role (has never watched her campaign)

So sorry you have covid! Sending healing thoughts! 2....a bit of perspective flip for James' first Quidditch game from TSRTS?
Thanks! We managed three free years, but now hubby started working in a school, so it was so bound to happen :( I'm fine for the moment!
As you asked, here's Lily's pov from Moment of Glory back when she had no feelings for James (as if)!
*****
Her heart pounds loudly, quicker than the cheers of the crowd. Any minute now the Gryffindor team will be announced — James Potter's name will be announced — and there will be no going back. There are no substitutions in Quidditch once the match starts, and what if Lily has just made the worst mistake—
No, no, she tells herself again. Everything worked perfectly so far. Fabian and Gideon had assured her that Potter was the best flyer they had ever seen; it had taken just one thrown-away line ("only the most daring would pick a catkin from the Whomping Willow") to let McLaggan out of the game; Robins, bless him, had just jumped at the idea; and Potter—he was the wild card, the one person that could have sunk this whole idea—but James had a sparkle in his eyes, a touch of daring, and Lily had known he wouldn't back down from a challenge. But what if he got cold feet, what if being in the spotlight would freeze him—
"Potter!" cries Peter loudly, eyes widened, and Lily forces herself to focus on the field. The Gryffindor team is flying around the pit to present themselves; her gaze moves past Sirius' in the third position to look for Potter, at the far edge of the line. He seems okay so far, flying steady to be above the team; his head follows the Golden Snitch as it is released, until he loses sight of it.
Lily wonders how he's holding up there, with the wind cutting his face—she can almost picture the way his hazel eyes are narrowed in concentration, and yet he might be smiling. If Potter was brave enough to go after a werewolf, a Quidditch match was probably nothing to him—
And then the match begins and the first movement, even before the chasers even begin struggling for the quaffle, is a bludger snapping directly up, to the lonely red seeker. He never played Quidditch, Lily remembers suddenly, he said he always flies alone, he wouldn't have practised with bludgers.
Fear grips her heart and it's dismissed as easily as the sideways maneuver that he does; the bludger passes by him with a few inches of distance, but still, it doesn't hit him.
She lets out a relieved breath — it will work. The match is fast, with the usual quick passes of the quaffle and bludger hits; Gryffindor and Slytherin are fairly matched this year, and she should be grabbing the rail, crying as everyone else, but for once, Lily loses focus of Sirius in the middle of the field. Her eyes keep darting up, to where Potter is playing his own Quidditch match — a lonely one, but one that is... beautiful.
She is entranced, that's the word. She has seen other matches before, has seen more than a dozen styles of flying, but the way James Potter flies is like a dance. She understands now why the Prewetts seemed so supportive of her idea; Potter dodges the bludgers effortlessly, sometimes at the last second, sometimes swirling as if he weren't fifty feet above the ground. Sometimes he darts between the middle of the field, dodging players as if they weren't there.
He was born to fly.
It's been only fifteen minutes — though Lily feels like she has been staying there watching for a decade, and it was a good decade — when he darts down; seconds later, he recovers, a glint of gold in his hand, and spotting the warmest smile she has ever seen on his face.
Her heart speeds up. We did it, James.
The team is wrapping him up in a well-deserved hug; she cannot even see his messy hair when Lily jumps towards the stairs. "I'll meet you later!" She yells to Remus and Peter; they understand that as she meant it, and they don't follow her to the locker room.
Her pulse is still fast; Lily blames the race down the stairs, but even as she leans against a column of the room, as she forces herself to breathe evenly and smile calmly, she cannot control it. Sirius beams at her, Fabian winks at her, even Mandy doesn't seem annoyed by her now, but Lily looks past them all until she finds James entering the locker room, still holding the Golden Snitch and—
Her heart stops for a full second.
She hadn't seen him closely with the uniform; it fits him, shapes on his body in ways that she hadn't noticed before. His hair is messier than usual after the wind outside, and it gives him a rebellious air—less like the prince charming she accused him of being and more like an antihero you cannot help but cheer for. His hazel eyes shine more than the glint of the Snitch that he releases in the room to a round of applause, and rather than getting sheepish for it, Potter just smirks; a smile that shows confidence, that says he welcomes that admiration and he knows he earned it.
She's attracted to James Potter.
Her heart resumes its speed with a vengeance. Potter is going to shine, Lily realises. He is charming, even more than Sirius—but this sounds weird now because she is not comparing him to Sirius. There's a sudden urge inside her, a craving, that she never felt for her best friend.
And when James Potter's eyes meet hers, his eyes darkening to a deep shade of honey, Lily almost can taste the kiss she knows they'll share before the day is over.

please say more about up the wolves on the playlist i beg
anon i am down on my knees asking you to marry me, of COURSE i will say more about up the wolves
while i feel up the wolves is probably more of a kiriona gaia song at this point, i hesitate to phase it out of the gideon playlist because the roots of it are in in gideon in the first place. here's a poignant quote abt the song before we kick off.
"...when people talk about triumph over adversity, adversity sounds like sort of a faceless sort of a thing that you don't need to triumph over so much as get around. This is a song about triumph over the adversary." - John Darnielle (of the Mountain Goats), at the Newport Folk Festival, 2013
first verse is pretty easy, because that's for sure gideon's inner monologue during htn act 5.
Tumblr media
she's been trapped inside of harrow's brain for nine months, not really alive, not really dead, being systematiclaly drowned by harrow's brain, and yes she forgave harrow for her past behaviour, but it's clear by the time we see her again in ntn that she's letting anger take the wheel atm - and who could blame her? so gideon is the "ghost" in this case, but she is also the person finding it hard to forgive. dichotomous.
now, second verse is, to me, the first few chapters of gtn. the Ninth's closest neighbour is the Eighth, so that makes the first lines match up quite neatly. observe:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
pg. 26 (paperback), Gideon the Ninth
but, ya know, obviously when the Eighth did catch wind of Ninth mischief, they ended up caring more abt gideon's mysterious dead mother than they did about her. additionally, as the song continues, we get these lines:
Tumblr media
once again, reiterating that the truth of gideon's treatment isn't important even if they know, to which i gesture broadly at the following snippets:
Tumblr media
pg. 19 (paperback), Gideon the Ninth
Tumblr media
pg. 21 (paperback), Gideon the Ninth
so, it's a pointless endeavour, but as gideon later justifies it, says even with no ultimate gain she'd do it, because, "I completely fucking hate you, because you are a hideous witch from hell. No offence." (pg. 27) what a lady. spite really can fuel you to do anything. furthermore, the next line is a sweet little mic drop on the moment to me:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
pg. 19 (paperback), Gideon the Ninth
up the wolves is one of the Mountain Goats' many "anti-revenge songs", this theme of useless rebellion and spite really intertwines nicely with gideon's early character arc. i also snagged this quote abt the song off the genius lyric page because it sums up my early thoughts really nicely abt why this fits gideon.
Tumblr media
like, does that not scream "gideon" to everyone? am i alone here? hello? is it just me and mr. darnielle and gnav?
to finish up, here's some nice comparatives/parallels from the chorus:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
pg. 23 (paperback), Gideon the Ninth
this (of course) refers to the story of romulus and remus (the former of whom would later found rome) being abandoned to die of exposure by their mother. gideon wasn't so much abandoned as put on a backburner, as wake was briefly inconvenienced from her main goal by dying. nonetheless, gideon's mother exists only as a story to her, and she grows up almost completely alone, like romulus and remus.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
pg. 456 & 457 (paperback), Nona the Ninth
the "party" referred to here in the story of romulus and remus is actually the murder of their father (who ordered them to be killed so that he might avoid them ever inheriting his throne) and the reinstatement of their grandfather to the throne. romulus then went on to murder remus over a disgreement over where to build their own city (rome). in gideon's case, the murder is of crux, but could also extend to whatever's going on w her and john both before the events of ntn and whatever's gonna happen in atn. in either case of where the party of her coming home is, it's a bitter return, and i don't think she enjoyed herself, which sucks.
last one, i swear
Tumblr media Tumblr media
pg. 20 (paperback), Gideon the Ninth

Hi I loved the at the healing edge of broken fic you posted!!!! It was lovely, and sad, but lovely.
It made me wonder - whenever James ever finds out Sirius is down or low again, how does he feel beyond just concern? And alternatively, does James know everytime it happens or is it something less obvious now he doesn’t live with them?
I'm so happy you did! It was a labor of love, just like all the rest.
Your treasures may be found below the cut <3
As for James, obviously, with Sirius no longer living with them, he's not going to just instantly know the second Sirius sinks for whatever reason. They're close, but unfortunately they're not actually connected telepathically, not matter how well they can read one another. But that's not to say he won't pick up on it at a later date. Like he sees Sirius the day after, he's in a better place mentally, but James will know, because it lingers for a while in a way only those that know you the best can ever see.
It they talk on the phone, James will hear it in Sirius' voice, those subtle cues they've learned over a lifetime together. It'll be in the faint uptick to the pitch of his voice, the way his words are slower or faster, the sound of his breathing. Most times, all it will take is Sirius just saying James' name in a certain way, and James will know, just as Sirius would know if the situations were reversed. And seeing one another in person...that's something Sirius can never hide. James will always see it even if for some reason Sirius doesn't want him to, but he gets better about trying to hide it so much.
James' feelings are a bit difficult for a long time. It takes him a while to fully understand it all, just what Sirius is going through, how it's truly affected him permanently. Parts of it make sense and others don't, such as Sirius' actions during the story itself. It takes a lot of talking with Lily and Remus, with Sirius himself once he's ready, to get a firmer grasp on just what his friend really needs to be at all helpful in the long run, though James is constantly trying.
Beyond just simple concern and worry, James is absolutely terrified. He's seen Sirius low plenty of times during their friendship, but after what happened with Gideon, the way Sirius handled it, tried to ignore it without ignoring as he processed, after losing Remus, after running from everyone, James panicking, not knowing where he was, if he was okay, if he'd ever come back, it attacks him in the worst way. Every fight with Remus afterwards when Sirius runs to James to rant and gripe flashes Sirius' once hollow face past James' vision. Every mention of his time on the team or Gideon strikes a bit of fear through James, because what if this is it, that one moment that will break it all again.
He spends a lot of time at first chasing around after Sirius, walking on eggshells and making sure everyone else does the same, but that doesn't help, Sirius least of all. It finally settles out a bit after a while, mostly between Lily and Remus constantly reminding him to back off and let Sirius live his life and breathe a little, but he's still scared of losing his friend and brother, can't help the negative reaction that springs up inside him no more than Sirius' can control his own reactions to certain stimuli.
But James, for all his flaws, for his overwhelming bluntness that doesn't always help matters, has always done everything he can for Sirius, been exactly what he needed most in almost every moment. He's scared, but he's there, that sturdy shoulder, the guiding hand, the firm resolve when Sirius loses his own. And as Sirius learns to talk and communicate in more healthy ways, so does James, feeding off him, balancing one another out, James telling Sirius what he needs from him to help just as much as Sirius does the same with James.

Hi! I really like your writing, could you possibly write a fanfic where Remus is a confident gorgeous bastard and Sirius is a flustered mess?
(Hi @arcades-n-academia! You might not even remember this request, with how long it took me to answer. I guess it took some time for a good idea to come to me, and then to find time to actually write it? I would say I hope it's worth the wait, but with how long the wait was that might be pushing it😅 Anyway, without further ado, I present to you:
Confident Gorgeous Remus Lupin and Flustered Mess Sirius Black!)
Being handsome, smart and successful, Remus has his choice of men. So he's allowed to have standards, right? And he has a type, namely confident and intelligent men who know what they are doing. Unfortunately, Sirius Black, easy on the eyes as he might be, is none of those things.
Or so Remus thought.
A New Side
Remus is feeling quite chipper. He's walking down the street carrying two boxes with cake from his favourite bakery, on his way to the office where he worked for the past year.
Remus is a renowned environmental scientist, but he took a break from that line of work to join an environmental law firm. He had wanted to learn more about the legal side of protecting the environment. What arguments are the big corporations using to deny accountability for the pollution they are causing? What data can these environmental lawyers use to prove these corporations are responsible? What evidence of the consequences for the environment is sufficiently compelling to a judge?
In return for learning the ropes of environmental law, Remus has been serving as an expert witness in their cases, and has consulted on scientific matters.
All in all, it has been a good year. Remus had a great time at the company, they made him feel at home and he truly learned a lot. But while he's going to miss the people, hard-working and dedicated to making the world a better place, he's excited to go back to his true passion: scientific research. He's got plenty of ideas, and he's excited to re-join his research team and get started.
Last Friday was officially his last day at the law firm, and since he's still got one week off before he'll take up his old job again, he's dropping by the office today to bring some cake and thank them for the past year.
As Remus pushes open the door, the first person he's greeted by is, unfortunately, Gilderoy Lockhart.
Alright, maybe when he says 'hard-working and dedicated to making the world a better place', that doesn't include everyone.
Lockhart doesn't particularly care about making the world better, he cares more about creating an image of himself as someone who is making the world better. He wants that aesthetic of a handsome, noble lawyer fighting for the good cause. Without doing the actual work, that is. Lockhart is known for doing nothing while taking credit for everything.
They would've kicked him out, if he didn't have a talent for charming people. Especially middle-aged women appear to be quite fond of him. Middle-aged women with too much money looking for a good cause to support. So since Lockhart is so proficient in bringing in donations, they continue to tolerate him.
"Lupin," Lockhart smiles. "Well, isn't today your lucky day."
'Because after today I never have to see you again?' Remus wants to say, but he holds it back. No, he went an entire year without clashing with Lockhart, he's not going to ruin it now. So he forces a smile. "And why is that, Lockhart?"
"Because today is the day you're getting the chance to go on a date with me," Lockhart smirks.
Remus blinks. "Sorry?"
"Yes, you heard that right," Lockhart says, still smirking. "You get to go on a date with me."
"That's… flattering, I suppose, but I'm sorry," Remus shakes his head. "I'm not interested."
Lockhart is silent for a moment, then he lifts his chin and tightens his jaw. "See for yourself then, Lupin. Your loss."
"Remus, you gotta help us out."
Fabian and Gideon have stopped him in the hallway.
"We keep arguing about it," Fabian says.
"So we need you to decide," Gideon adds.
"We usually don't go for the same guy, so this is new to us," Fabian sighs.
"We can't agree upon which one of us gets to ask you out, so we decided to leave it up to you," Gideon shrugs.
"So you need to tell us, Remus," Fabian urges.
"Which one of us would you rather go out with?" They both ask at the same time.
Remus looks from one brother to the other. "I like you both, as good friends."
Fabian cringes and Gideon dramatically places a hand over his heart. "Autch."
"Oh, come on," Remus says. "You can't expect me to choose one of you to date! That's just asking for trouble. Believe me, this is for the best."
"Alright, we normally don't go there, but since it's you, we are willing to make an exception," Fabian says.
"So what about dating both of us at the same time?" Gideon asks.
"Bye, Fabian! Bye, Gideon!" Remus starts to walk away. "Nice catching up with you!"
"You don't know what you'll be missing out on!" Fabian, or maybe Gideon, calls after him.
Benjy keeps nervously fiddling with his tea bag. "So… ehm, I mean, like, we won't see each other at work anymore, and I just thought… I hoped… I wanted to ask… If you don't mind, of course, maybe we could see each other outside of work? You know. Like dinner. If you like to have dinner. With me."
Remus stops from where he had been going through the cabinets of the office kitchen looking for cake forks to look at Benjy. "Oh, Benj… That sounds lovely, really. But truthfully, I'm not looking for anything right now, so it's probably best not to, as I don't want to give you the wrong idea."
It's not exactly true. Remus is quite open to someone storming into his life and sweeping him off of his feet, but Benjy isn't the 'storming in and sweeping you off of your feet'-type. He's the 'carefully shuffling in and awkwardly stammering if he may perhaps attempt to sweep you off of your feet'-type. Not that he isn't a great guy. Remus is sure that there's someone out there who's going to look at Benjy and see him worrying his lip and nervously wringing his hands, and think it's just the cutest thing ever.
But that someone isn't Remus. He needs a man who has a bit more fire in him.
After avoiding an awkward situation with Caradoc Dearborn, by pretending to think the flowers Dearborn gives him are only to thank him for his work in the past year, and Dearborn luckily takes the hint and plays along, Remus runs into Kingsley. At first, Remus is relieved that it's just his work buddy Kingsley, but when Kinsley leans against the wall beside him and gives him that smile, he knows enough.
"No, Kingsley," he says firmly. "No. We are friends. We work well as friends. We are not going to change that."
Kingsley lets his head fall against the wall and lets out a dramatic sigh. "You are a cruel, cruel man, Remus Lupin," he says, but he's smiling as he pushes himself off of the wall. "Well, it was worth a try, but I know a lost cause when I see one."
Remus lets out a relieved sigh as he closes the door to the break room behind him. Mary from Communications, Marlene the Office Manager and Lily from HR look up from their coffee.
"Oh my god!" Mary jumps to her feet and runs up to him. "Cake!" She exclaims, snatching the boxes from his hands.
"Happy to see you too, Mary," Remus says, rolling his eyes.
Mary sits down and flips open one of the boxes. "White chocolate pistachio! You're my hero."
Remus drops down on a chair with a sigh. "Has Mary brought her 'special' brownies to the office again?"
Mary glares at him, swallowing down a mouth full of frosting. "That happened once and it was an accident!" She says. "I took the wrong batch with me."
"I'm not complaining," Marlene smirks. "Best day I've ever had at the office."
"What makes you think the whole office is on drugs?" Lily asks Remus. "Again," she adds, almost as an afterthought.
"Just on the way here," Remus says. "Like, six co-workers asked me out!"
Marlene laughs. "Of course they did!"
Lily leans forward, resting her head on her hands. "Come on, Remus. You must know what's going on."
Remus blinks at her. "I promise you that I really do not."
"This company has a strict No Dating-Policy for its employees," Lily says. "But as of today, you," she points her finger at Remus. "Are no longer an employee."
"Which means…" Remus begins.
"Which means that all those thirsty men who have been lusting after you for the past year can finally shoot their shot!" Mary finishes.
Remus looks at Lily, but she just points at Mary and nods.
"It's true, Rem," Marlene says. "I almost had to ask the janitor to mob the floor in the meeting room after each of your presentations, with how much those guys were drooling!"
"And who can blame them?" Mary says, before Remus can protest. "You, standing there, with that casually tousled hair going on, wearing that button-up with the top buttons undone and your sleeves rolled up to your elbows, talking about critical deposition values, just oozing that whole 'Sexy Professor'-vibe…"
"There's nothing sexy about critical deposition values!" Remus protests, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Say critical deposition values one more time," Mary says, throwing her head back and letting out a fake moan.
Remus flicks a pistachio at her head. "You're a menace."
Mary sticks out her tongue and takes another bite of cake.
Remus shakes his head. "Good god, if that is the case, in retrospect, I'm very thankful for that No Dating-Policy. At least now I only have to endure this awkwardness for one day."
"Two days," Lily corrects. "You have to come to the office party this Friday!"
Remus raises his eyebrows. "Party? Are we celebrating?"
A huge grin appears on Lily's face. "Indeed we are! We won the case against Exxon!" She cheers.
Remus stares at her. "The case against… No way!"
"Way!"
Remus laughs out loud. "Oh my god! That's amazing! I can hardly believe it! I thought that case was mostly symbolic? That we didn't have a chance at actually winning?"
"So did I!" Lily exclaims.
"So did everyone!" Mary exclaims.
Marlene shakes her head with a huge grin on her face. "But don't tell Sirius he can't do something!"
"Wait," Remus says. "Back up. Sirius? As in Sirius Black?"
"No, Remus. One of the many other Siriuses that work here," Lily deadpans. "Yes, Sirius Black! Why does that surprise you?"
"No reason, just…" Remus shrugs awkwardly. "Well, he isn't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed, is he?"
All three girls stare at him like he has grown two heads.
"Remus," Lily eventually manages to say. "I don't know what kind of tools you have in your shed, but in most sheds, they don't come much sharper than Sirius Black. He graduated top of his year from Harvard Law, he takes on the most challenging cases from all our lawyers, and still manages to win more cases than any of the other lawyers, our biggest clients almost always request for him by name to represent them, and he receives about five offers per week from corporate offices willing to pay him at least five times what we can afford." She shakes her head. "We're lucky he's so dedicated to the cause, otherwise we would never have been able to keep him.
Remus blinks. "Really? Okay. Wow. That's… not what I expected."
The first time Remus saw Black, their conversation went something like this:
"Hi! I'm your new colleague, Remus Lupin. Nice to meet you!"
"Uh, yeah."
"So… what kind of work do you do?"
"I… ehm, I work for an environmental law firm."
"...Yes. I know. We're colleagues. I mean what sort of work do you do within the firm?"
"Oh, yes, I work in environmental law. I do law work. For… the environment."
"Right."
After that conversation, Remus had concluded that, despite what his first name might suggest, Sirius Black wasn't exactly a bright light. Their following conversations had only confirmed his suspicions.
"Hey Black. That's quite a stack of papers you're carrying. Big case?"
"Oh, no, just a normal briefcase fits fine."
"Oh, Black, can I get your opinion on the presentation I gave at the meeting this morning? What did you think of the slides?"
"I loved them! They were nice!"
"Yeah, thanks, but were they clear enough?"
"Oh, yes! I could see them very well. With the blue background and white letters. Very clear."
"No, I mean… You know what, nevermind."
Remus had assumed that Black, not being the sharpest mind, must be some sort of an assistant to the lawyers, searching files, copying documents, writing minutes, that sort of work.
Remus also thought, and he's rather ashamed to admit this, that maybe they employed Black because of his father, the infamous cut-throat corporate lawyer Orion Black. Maybe they thought that Orion Black would go a bit more easy on them when meeting them across the courtroom if his son worked for them. Though if that was the case, it was to no avail. If anything, Orion Black seems even more determined to take their firm down any chance he gets.
Remus even thought, and yes, he's even more ashamed to admit this, that the only reason they kept Black around could be because the man is so easy on the eyes.
"So, what made you think Sirius is a dummy?" Mary asks cheerfully.
"I've been trying to get to know him, but it's hard to learn more about someone when they can't hold a bloody conversation," Remus says defensively. "I swear, every time I try to talk to him, the guy can barely string a sentence together!"
The girls are silent for a moment. Then they all burst out laughing.
"Oh my god," Marlene says, wiping tears from her eyes. "I can't believe it. Sirius Black, with his infamous sharp tongue, who always has a retort for everything and can make even the most ruthless corporate lawyer tremble with fear, finally at a loss for words, because of a cute guy!" She laughs again. "I'm never going to let him hear the end of this, I swear!"
"As any good friend should," Mary says approvingly.
Remus looks puzzled.
"Come on, Remus," Lily grins. "With your experience from today, I think it's pretty clear why Sirius’ brain turns to mush around you!"
"So," Remus says slowly. "Black is actually both very intelligent and very into me?"
"He sure is."
Remus sits back on his chair and takes a sip of his coffee. "Interesting."
Remus is hiding in a corner. Not how he usually acts at parties, but he's got a very good reason. Two very good reasons actually.
First, it's so that he won't continuously get hit on, with people making flirtatious comments, bringing him drinks or making not-so-subtle suggestions of what they could do after the party now that they're no longer co-workers.
Second, it's so he can observe Sirius Black without Sirius Black knowing he's observing him.
Because Remus is intrigued.
Sure, he did find Black attractive. No one who sees him can deny that he's a good-looking man. But Remus never considered him as someone he'd potentially want to date.
Remus likes intelligent men. Maybe that's pretentious, but it's just how it is. He's attracted to men whom he can have stimulating conversations with, who challenge him and keep him on his toes, who he can share ideas with. Black seemed to be none of those things, so Remus had never looked at him like that.
Tonight, though, Remus is looking.
Black is, of course, the star of the evening. The whole party is to celebrate his achievement, after all. He looks stunning in his dress shirt and his long hair tied up. Everybody wants to talk to the man of the moment, and Black is making rounds, going from group to group, smiling brightly and making easy conversation with everyone. He looks confident and at ease, oozing charisma and competence.
Remus hadn't felt any particular way about the fidgety Sirius Black stumbling over his words, but this Sirius Black… This is a Sirius Black he would like to see more of. There's just something incredibly sexy about a confident man who knows what he's doing, and knows he's doing it well.
Black is currently chatting to the Bones-siblings– Amelia and Edgar are from the prestigious Bones family, known for their philanthropy and welfare work, and both are highly educated and strongly dedicated–, and Peter Petttigrew and Emmeline Vance. Vance is a tall, blond woman, who works for a pharmaceutical company and with whom they once had to negotiate a settlement with. Peter was quite infatuated with her, and keeps inviting her to these types of events, hoping to get with her, though everyone can see Vance has no real interest in him besides his connections.
Remus doesn't know whether Vance likes to play devil's advocate, or whether she's really defending her beliefs, but she's always taking opposing stances and arguing with everyone from the firm. Remus supposes she thinks having a different opinion makes her special and interesting, by showing she's not like the rest of them naive ideologists, but Remus disagrees. Sometimes, having a different opinion just makes you wrong.
Vance brushes her long, blond hair back. "You drive a motorcycle, right?" She asks Black. "Which means you need fuel. You can attack Exxon, but at the same time, you're one of the consumers creating the demand they're providing." She crosses her arms over her chest, looking quite smug.
Black arches an eyebrow. "I try to make the world a better place, whilst not being perfect myself, yes."
"Well, doesn't that make you…"
"A hypocrite?" Black finishes.
Vance shrugs.
"No one can do everything right. If trying to do good while you know you will sometimes get it wrong makes you a hypocrite, then not even trying to do any good only because you know you can't do everything makes you a cynic." Black crosses his arms over his chest and looks Vance in the eyes. "And then I'd rather be a hypocrite than a cynic."
"And you think bringing a company to the verge of bankruptcy with such an erratic fine is 'doing good'?" Vance asks. "If you take speeding, for instance, people don't speed because they know what fine they'll have to pay when they do. The fine Exxon has been given, however, is unprecedented. Therefore, Exxon couldn't have taken it into account when deciding upon their actions. Therefore, it is unfair." She looks quite pleased with herself.
Black does not look impressed with her argumentation, though. "We fine Exxon because we want them to not pour a gallon of crude oil over a baby seal," he says. "Not because we want to enable them to conduct a detailed cost-benefit-analysis on the strategy of pouring a gallon of crude oil over a baby seal! If they don't like that the consequences are unpredictable, good. It's a punishment, they're supposed to not like it."
"But you can't let such a vital company face the threat of bankruptcy!" Vance persists, clearly trying to get under Black's skin.
Black shrugs. "You're the one who started drawing parallels with criminal law. Alright, but then let's be consistent. What's the highest price someone can pay for the worst crime? It's their actual life. Now, Exxon has destroyed ecosystems, destroyed the lives of hundreds of people, and killed countless wildlife. It doesn't get much worse than that, so what would be the corporate equivalent of having to pay with your life? Bankruptcy indeed, if you follow your own logic."
"But do you really think Exxon is going to pay up?" Edgar Bones asks carefully. "I mean, Exxon has got an whole army of the best lawyers at their disposal. They can keep appealing the verdict to a higher and higher court, and keep stalling the process. The plaintiffs will be broke and forced to give up any further legal proceedings before they ever see a dime."
"If Exxon wants to drag this process out for years," Black replies instantly. "Then I will be breathing down their neck every single day for as long as it lasts and make sure they won't get a moment of rest from this case until they pay up! If we let them get away with this, simply because they have more means, it'll send a message to all companies like them that they can do whatever they want and no one will hold them accountable."
"But they won't be able to afford your services anymore."
"I don't want any money, not until the plaintiffs have been paid what they are due," Black says passionately, balling his fists.
"I suppose it's good exposure for your brand," Vance contemplates. "Being the activist lawyer engaged in a legal battle with Exxon."
Black gives her a hard look. "Some things aren't about money, or exposure. Some things just matter."
Remus stares at Black. That unwavering conviction, that fierce determination… It does something to him. Seeing that burning passion in his eyes, it makes something stir in Remus' stomach.
Remus chugs the rest of his his wine and places the empty glass on a passing waitress' tray, before making his way over to the group.
"Professor Lupin!" Vance says, batting her eyelashes at him. "Always good to see you."
"Hi Remus," Edgar Bones says warmly, giving Remus a quick once-over. "Glad you decided to come tonight."
"Yes, hi," Remus says, without taking his eyes off of Black, whose mouth is opening and closing like a fish without any words coming out. "Could I steal the man of the moment for a bit?" He asks, winking at Black. "To congratulate him on his big win."
Vance looks from Remus to Black and back. "Figures," she mumbles, before brushing her blond hair back and stalking off.
"Oh, I was hoping…" Edgar Bones begins.
"Of course, Remus," Amelia Bones interrupts, grabbing her brother's arm and dragging him away. "Come on, Ed. Let them have a moment."
"I hope I wasn't interrupting anything important?" Remus asks sweetly, smiling at Black.
Black's face flushes. "No! No, nothing important! Just talking about… how you should be a hypocrite, and how you can calculate the benefits of pouring oil on a baby seal, and how my clients will go bankrupt paying me…"
Remus arches an eyebrow.
Black cringes at himself, and covers his eyes with his hand, groaning. "Oh god, I swear… I swear, I'm actually smart!" He says. "I have more than two brain cells! I swear I do! The rest just somehow… switches off when it comes to you."
Remus throws his head back and lets out a genuine laugh. "Well, I guess it's good then that I'm not some corporate lawyer on the other side of the courtroom," he teases.
"It wouldn't have mattered then," Black mutters, crossing his arms over his chest.
Remus frowns. "How so?"
"I like how dedicated you are to your research," Black explains. "It's not just a job to you, you actually care. The way you talk about an exciting new research idea," a spark appears in Black's eyes as he talks. "With that contagious excitement, and always so hopeful, no matter how bad the world can be, that we can make it better. There's a fire and a passion to you." Black seems to realize he's been rambling, and he shrugs awkwardly. "I hardly would've been impressed to the point of my brain shutting down if you had been using that fire and passion to defend some bank's right to invest their client's money in cutting down the rainforest."
Remus stares at him.
He was not expecting this. His face feels warm, and- God, is he blushing? He can't remember the last time he blushed!
He thought Sirius liked him because he's handsome and successful. Many people do. But Sirius has seen him, and likes him for the kind of person he is. Remus feels something stir again, but this time not in his stomach, but higher, in the chest-area.
He gives Sirius a warm smile. "Thank you," he says sincerely, and then he laughs. "What can I say? Some things just matter."
Sirius just looks at him for a moment, before snapping out of it. "Oh, it's nothing." He wants to make a dismissive gesture with his hand, but he has forgotten he's holding a glass of red wine, and ends up throwing it all over his shirt. "Shite!" He curses, wiping his hands over his shirt, only making it worse. "Dammit, dammit! God, I'm such a bloody pillock!"
Remus looks on with a fond smile. Yes, it's going to take a lot of effort to bring out that confident, competent Sirius Black around him, but Remus has the feeling that it's going to be worth it.

His fur bristled with arousal as Remus carefully rode his cock. It felt so good but was also teasing, just a few inches in and out of the wonderful tightness. The elf managed to get a little bit further but had to pull back and pause to catch his breath. Gideon huffed and smoke whafted from his nostrils at the unintentional edging that was being done to him.
Gideon closed his eyes at the petting, loving how the fingers comed through the now soft and clean fur. When Remus resumed and laid more against him the dragonborn slid down more onto the bed. "Heh, well I am descended from dragons." he smirked and nuzzled at the elf. Now that the other was getting comfortable he used his hold to help Remus keep the quickened pace and began rocking his hips up. Not too much, past the halfway point and gradually working himself deeper. Keeping notice of the elf's sounds and if his fur was pulled at in any discomfort.

With each moment where it got uncomfortable, Remus would move himself up, give it a little time before moving back down and was able to take a little bit more of the dragonborn’s cock. Then the elf had to stop for a little break all together, it was quite the size he was filling himself with. He took this moment to steady himself and let one hand roam through the magical fur. Never had he seen something like this, felt like this. It was a nice warmth in and around his body.
After a bit, Remus continued to work his companion further inside of him and picked up a bit. The previous pace was a bit torturous. More moans came from the half-elf, getting louder with each thrust. “Fuck,” he swore, which he rarely did, but this felt good. “You’re so big…” Burying his face against the dragon’s shoulder, feeling the fur, while one hand remained on the horn.
