Are You Eligible for Passport Renewal Online?
In good news, the State Department has announced the roll-out of its new online passport renewal system. Eligible individuals can renew their 10-year passports online without having to mail in any documentation. Be sure to plan ahead if you are using the online service because only routine service is available – no expedited processing. Although applicants will not be required to turn in their…

Can’t wait for my drivers license to arrive so I can be driving legally again for the first time in 1.5 years!
#for legal reasons this is a joke#SO THIS IS WHATS UP#as a youngin#a young adult one might say#I was starting to learn that some systems are bullshit when I’d previously been a pretty big rule-follower#my mom showing me how to navigate the healthcare system a bit/showing me how student loans legit have practices to confuse and fuck us over#also im really bad at getting things in on time (this is an important fact)#so when I see that my drivers license is abt to expire. I’m like ‘Oup gotta get that done!’ then promptly forget abt it#next time I remember it’s 3 months expired.#I check the date and realize that wait! in a year imma be turning 21 and just one yr after that Real ID’s will become mandatory (im p sure)#so I decide to push off renewing my license! I think that the whole process will b annoying asf bc I’ve only dealt with the DMV in-person#and it SUCKED and took forever. I’m thinking that if I renew my drivers license right on/after my 21st birthday I can knock out two birds#with one stone: I can get it as a Real ID and I can get an updated picture that’s flipped sideways so getting age-checked is faster#little do i know: it’s v much illegal to be driving around with an expired license!#I drive around for a year (over a year? I don’t remember when I first realized it was expired) j having fun#then one month b4 my 21st birthday I get into an abroad study thing and have to get my passport. which I realize is also expired. and#realize that to renew my passport I have to have a valid drivers license. At this point I also realize how fucked I could be if I get pulled#over with my expired license. so I check out the process for DL renewal and rejoice! it’s online!#AND THANK FUCK I CHECKED THEN. bc if I had waited LITERALLY two more days I would not have been able to renew online and would’ve had to go#in-person. and there were no in-person appointments until after my 21st. and I learned in this process abt the fines my state applies when u#renew a DL late and ALSO that u have to entirely retake the test/redo all the paperwork shit if it’s expired for too long. I would’ve had to#retake the test n everything if I’d gone past my bday. I was also in another state for college. idk how incoherent these ramblings are but#basically I would’ve been Ultra Fucked. anyways! got that figured out#renewed the DL and had it sent to my home. then da house floods and crime goes up in the neighborhood and my DL ends up either being lost#Or tossed (with other flood-damaged things) or stolen.#I don’t realize this for 4 months bc I am silly. also in college out-of-state. also other reasons.#finally got around to calling DMV and telling them that my DL never arrived… 6 months after I renewed it!#and they were v sweet and are resending me my DL for free. so in the next few weeks I shall finally b driving legally again#!!!! the end#mypost

Americans can now renew their passports online, bypassing a cumbersome mail-in paper application process that often caused delays. The State Department announced Wednesday that its online renewal system is now fully operational, after testing in pilot programs, and available to adult passport holders whose passport has expired within the past five years or will expire in the coming year. It is not available for the renewal of children’s passports, for first-time passport applicants for renewal applicants who live outside the United States or for expedited applications. “By offering this online alternative to the traditional paper application process, the Department is embracing digital transformation to offer the most efficient and convenient passport renewal experience possible,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement. The department said it estimated that about 5 million Americans would be able to use this service a year. In 2023, it processed 24 million passports, about 40% of which were renewals. After staffing shortages caused mainly by the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in lengthy passport processing delays, the department ramped up hiring and introduced other technological improvements that have reduced wait times by about one-third over last year. It says most applications are now completed in far less than the advertised six weeks to eight weeks and the online renewal system is expected to further reduce that.

Choi Jong-In's Age
Because I don't care what the game says
Tumblr media
So based on this one line, there are multiple scenarios (This is based on South Korea's passport system):
If Jong-In got his passport at 18, based on the validity period of 10 years, he could be 28 (This is the youngest age he could technically be) 38 is not an option here-
If he got his passport at 14, meaning the validity period would be 5 years for people under 18, and then renewed his passport at 19, he could be 29 when renewing it again after 10 years
If he got his passport at 17, with the same validity period of 5 years, and renewed it 22, he could now be 32
Therefore, the maximum age and the age I will consider canon for me will be 32.

The SMP Multiverse exists, but it’s not as complicated as people think:
Most of the time, traveling through “worlds” is like traveling through realms, but with an extra step. You have to go through the “hub” to access most servers, as well as showing identification and an invitation if it’s a whitelist server. People who commonly visit other servers have passports that they have to get renewed every 5 years.
Some worlds are just connected as is. Lifesteal borders Kaboodle SMP as well as Friend or Foe & Naked and Afraid, making easy access for members such as Clown, Zam, Jaron and Ash. The members often get confused with the different lives systems, resulting in some not well thought out deaths.
If a member loses all their lives in one world, they’re teleported back to the hub and can no longer access that world. They can still access other worlds, and this is where we see “SMP Hoppers” come into play. If all lives are lost on all servers then the player is permanently dead, so many people join 5-10 servers thinking it will make them invincible, and if not, stave off permanent death for at least a few hundred years.

if you don't have a second form of ID or if you need to get your passport renewed, do it now. you'll have to mail in the application if it's your first time but if you're renewing, if you fit the criteria, you can apply online. for renewal, it's about a 6 week turn around.
the book costs $130 but a passport card, which lets you travel to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and some Caribbean countries costs $30. If you're applying for the first time, there's an additional fee of $35.

Pain meds have kicked in, so I apologize if this ramblea.) Had a couple of people ask why we're not actively fundraising for my surgeries and the debt accrued because of our personal Series of Unfortunate Events* (especially now in the aftermath of an unprovoked attack that did irreparable damage to my eyes--the vitreous humor is separating, which they say cannot be fixed, and the pre-existing retina separation on my right eye is also inoperable) or for trying to move back to the US where I could use my medical benefits.
The short answer is that although of COURSE we appreciate the people who donate, there are so many folks in worse positions than us (in Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, Congo, etc., not to mention folks even in developed countries lile the US whoin danger of losing their homes and so on) that I cannot in all good conscience ASK for money.
So like, yes, I still need the throat(!), foot, and joint surgeries (among other things), and yes, we've had to go deeper in debt for disability aids and my replacement teeth (which I should have sometime next week!).
BUT... my heart is apparently getting better!
That was the thing we were most worried about (so worried we started to fundraise to move back to the US to use my medical benefits) so if those other things get put off for another couple of years, so be it. The eye doc says I'm eight years away from cataract surgery. We have enough to pay our bills and give ourselves the occasional treat while paying down debt, and that's going to have to be enough for now.
*If you're new here...
You may not know that @thesurestthing amd I are a disabled, neurodivergent US couple living in the Philippines, where an issue with our daughter's birth certificate left her stateless in the middle of COVID travel restrictions just as our visas were expiring, and kicked off an expensive two-year bureaucratic nightmare about the same time the company I was licensing game rights to for an old story declined to renew the contract--that, plus me getting COVID four times and suffering mega-complications that involved--among other things-- multiple hospitalizations, me being on an oxygen machine for a month, long covid that has deatroyed my immune system, a persistent two-year foot infection that required surgery and specialized antibiotics, plus there was our daughter's medically complicated birth requiring a c section, and a few other emergencies that put us into the hole we're currently clawing our way out of.
(As an aside, if you and your partner give birth in the Philippines, make DAMN sure you triple-check the birth certificate before accepting it--the bureaucracy here is so intense that making ANY corrections can take literally years; we have a friend who was born and raised here who cannot get a new passport because his birth certificate still lists his name as "Baby Boy," and he finally--in his forties--has almost given up trying to get it fixed.)

Ok so let me get this straight. Dr James Evan Wilson, Oncologist extraordinaire and secret idiot, had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, issued by the state of Louisiana, from around 1991-95 to 2008.
Americans, help me out. This means that Jimmy-boy never renewed his passport in these 13-17 years, right? Mr Best-friends-with-local-curmudgeon-army-brat (who has lived all over the world) hasn’t left the US of A since maybe studying in Montréal or during med school (I’m assuming that if he crossed the border or renewed his passport that then the warrant would come up).
This also means that Wilson is such a good boy when driving that he’s never been stopped by a cop who decided to run his license through the system, right? And come to think of it, how was he even renewing his license?? Or wouldn’t the DMV look into warrants and such when renewing a driver’s license? (Is this the point where I should just stop thinking about this?)
Also, this man had been flying domestically and had unknowingly been playing Russian roulette with the TSA ever since the TSA was created??
I am amazed by the ramifications of this plot point. The man who went to study in Québec at 18 never left the country again after med school. Right. Continue being a secret weirdo, Wilson.

Hey folks! Thank you @wellbelesbian for the tag and to everyone who tagged me over the past week!
Tomorrow it will officially be a year since I posted the first chapter of my first fic, Accidents Happen. I’ve said this before but I cannot emphasise how terrified I was throughout posting (I hadn’t shared my story-writing since I was 15 and had some baggage). Now I have broken through that wall and I’m writing more than ever.
Thank you everyone who read that fic, from the bottom of my heart, and thank you everyone who welcomed me into the Simon Snow fandom. Your encouragement is why I’m still here, one year later, with a renewed love for writing and a little circle of treasured friends <3
Here’s a snippet from an upcoming chapter of For All Intents and Purposes. @erzbethluna and I are hoping to have chp 3 out soon!
This is not my first time at an American airport, but the experience is a little different when you’re doing it as the federal government intended. Last time, we’d walked straight past the fingerprint and facial recognition systems. This time, we’re travelling under our real names, with passports, and going through every check. Simon and I join the Normals in handing over our biometric data. “What next? Samples of our blood and saliva?” I grumble as I regard the machine. This whole thing makes me uncomfortable. Could these systems detect any oddity in me? Perhaps my low body temperature? Oh Crowley, will it even read my fingertips? “Baz,” Simon hisses from his machine. A security guard is regarding me, a short man with a severe brow that partners badly with his otherwise round and babyish face. Simon’s eyes stay locked on his screen, but there’s a fierceness in his stance. Drawing attention to us was precisely the opposite of what I had in mind. According to my research (films and television), you are, at any time, one badly-placed comment or unfortunate circumstance away from a nightmarish encounter with airport security. And Simon is a walking nightmare of a man, filled with the desire to hoard and brimming with fire that can be spat should I be even slightly inconvenienced. Two days ago a van ran a red light at a pedestrian crossing (one we were about to cross), resulting in Simon leaving a melted blotch in the road. Before anyone could pull out their phones, I cast we didn’t start the fire and dragged him away.

A potential Russian passport ban could affect #NJDevils  prospects and players.
The report first emerged via the Novaya Gazeta Europe which states, “The draft proposal would introduce the ban this year, Novaya Gazeta wrote, meaning Russians living abroad would have to return to the country to obtain or renew their passports.”
At this time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation has denied the report. The rest of the report can be read here.
The Devils didn’t roster any Russian players this season, therefore, the main roster appears to be safe. However, in their system, there could certainly be lasting implications.
Currently, there are five players in the Devils’ prospect pool who hail from Russia.
Only one is overseas playing North American hockey, in the American Hockey League skating on the Utica Comets’ blue line.
Daniil Misyul — who crossed the pond from the KHL in May 2023 — made his AHL debut with the Comets in October. He’s established himself as a physical presence with the Comets and scored four goals and 14 points in 44 games this year.
Should the potential passport ban come to fruition, Misyul will need to return to Russia and renew his passport, which leaves the possibility he’ll need to take leave from the Devils organization.
The remaining four prospects are currently playing in Russia — all playing in the KHL — are defensemen Artyom Barabosha, Daniil Orlov, Yegor Zaitsev, and prized forward prospect Arseni Gritsyuk.
For the four aforementioned players, receiving new passports should be less or a hurdle while residing in their home country if they choose to cross the pond.
Gritsyuk is on the record stating that following the 2024-25 season, he aims to make the leap from the KHL to North America to play in the Devils’ organization.
He’ll need to ensure he has an up-to-date passport.
The potential passport ban will have the same effect on fellow NHL teams and their prospect pools alike. Philadelphia Flyers fans are certainly keeping a close eye on this situation after just signing goaltender Ivan Fedotov. All while they patiently wait for their highly skilled prospect, Matvei Michkov who is playing in the KHL.
It certainly adds an interesting wrinkle to Kevin Weekes’ report on Saturday that player agent Dan Milstein is holding a pre-NHL Draft showcase with several Russian clients/top prospects in the middle of June.
What do you all think

I hope there's never a part of me that forgets that if I wasn't born lucky I'd be dead or homeless by now. there's no way I'd ever be able to exist independently in a society run like the one we're in.
like. in a perfect world, or even just a slightly better one, I'd manage. I'm able to feed and bathe myself, I can get my shit just together enough to pick up some pills every month. I'd find things to do, stuff to occupy my time, I'd go places, et cetera, whatever. but I don't think I'm ever going to be able to GET a job, let alone hold it down. especially not when I was even younger -- teenage me at literally any kind of job would just be asking for disaster.
Like, my ID has been expired for like, a year, because I didn't notice when it expired and by the time I realized it was too late for me to renew it online, so now I have to go through the whole thing of getting an ID again - a process that would be way easier if I knew where my passport and social security card were, which I don't. So I can't get a job until that's done.
I sometimes dissociate so much when I get behind the wheel of a vehicle that it's dangerous, so i have to wrangle another person into following my schedule or rely on public transit. But I can't walk very far, either, so I wouldn't be able to get a job unless I have my own private valet who will never have a scheduling conflict (because if i call out too much i could get fired) or it just so happens that the bus route has a stop directly outside of my house and directly in front of my workplace.
sometimes i can't get my shit together enough to pick up my pills in a timely manner so I go a few days without -- imagine if I needed something more serious than antidepressants! and God forbid I need different pills, because that'd mean i would have to set up a doctor's appointment, and get there, and actually receive a treatment that helped. if I got an antidepressant or other such med that made things even slightly worse there'd be no way for me to get my shit together enough to go to the doctor again to get a different medicine.
I'm scraping by on the skin of my teeth 24/7 WITH a support system and money, lmao. if it weren't for that heavensent jackpot lottery birth I had I'd probably just crumble to dust

Thailand Privilege Visa
The Thailand Privilege Visa, formerly known as the Thailand Elite Visa, is a long-term residence program designed to attract high-net-worth individuals and affluent retirees to Thailand. Administered by the Thailand Privilege Card Company, a subsidiary of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, this visa offers a unique blend of immigration benefits, exclusive privileges, and a streamlined application process.
Understanding the Visa
The core benefit of the Thailand Privilege Visa is the ability to stay in Thailand for an extended period without the hassle of frequent visa renewals. The program offers multiple tiers, each with varying durations and privileges:
Gold Card: Grants a 5-year multiple-entry visa.
Platinum Card: Provides a 10-year multiple-entry visa.
Diamond Card: Offers a 15-year multiple-entry visa.
Reserve Card: Delivers a 20-year multiple-entry visa, subject to pre-screening qualifications.
Beyond the visa duration, the program also provides a range of exclusive benefits, such as VIP airport services, expedited immigration procedures, and access to government concierge services. These privileges are designed to enhance the overall living experience in Thailand.
The Point System: A New Era of Customization
In a significant development, Thailand Privilege introduced a point system in October 2023. This innovative approach replaces the previous fixed privilege structure, allowing members to select and customize a combination of benefits that best suits their lifestyle. Members earn points based on their membership tier and can redeem these points for a variety of privileges, including golf memberships, spa treatments, accommodation discounts, and more. This flexibility empowers individuals to tailor their Thailand experience to their specific preferences.
Eligibility and Application Process
While the Thailand Privilege Visa is primarily targeted at high-net-worth individuals, the specific eligibility criteria can vary based on the chosen membership tier. Generally, applicants need to meet financial requirements and provide necessary documentation, including passport information, passport-sized photographs, and proof of funds.
The application process is relatively straightforward. Applicants can submit their applications online or through authorized agents. The program emphasizes a streamlined approach, aiming to minimize bureaucratic hurdles for applicants.
Beyond the Visa: Thailand as a Retirement Destination
For many, the Thailand Privilege Visa is more than just a visa; it's a gateway to a fulfilling retirement. Thailand offers a compelling combination of affordability, tropical climate, rich culture, and excellent healthcare, making it an attractive option for retirees from around the world.
However, it's essential to conduct thorough research and consider factors such as cost of living, healthcare accessibility, and visa regulations before making a long-term commitment. While the Thailand Privilege Visa provides a solid foundation, careful planning is crucial for a successful retirement in the Land of Smiles.
Note: While this article provides a comprehensive overview of the Thailand Privilege Visa, it is essential to consult the official Thailand Privilege website or seek advice from an immigration expert for the most up-to-date information and personalized guidance.
