The US State Department under Donald Trump has been accused of instigating what amounts to a travel ban after they suspended the processing of trans Americans’ passport applications. The suspension follows an executive order signed by President Donald Trump last week, which mandated federal recognition of only two sexes: male and female. The executive order also maintained that “these sexes are not changeable”, leading to government agencies being forced to apply the policy to all government-issued identification. As such, passport applications where the applicant’s gender is different to their biological sex at birth have not been processed, raising concerns about their access to essential services.

When I was in college, I let German tourists take pictures with me in my graduation gown. Even at the time I thought it was weird. But since my college years, I haven’t allowed strangers to take pics of me “just because” here or abroad. “Curiosity” means very little to me. People on the clock app were saying in China they actually have been known to post pics of Black people on WeChat to make fun of them. So, maybe not the best idea to let strangers take pics of/with you. Anyway, I wish you all safe, joyous, and comfortable travels. You deserve to see the world in peace just like anyone else.

The State Department is no longer issuing U.S. passports with “X” gender markers and has suspended processing all applications from Americans seeking to update their passports with a new gender marker. This suspension, made in response to President Donald Trump’s executive order signaling his administration’s opposition to gender diversity, affects all transgender and nonbinary Americans, including those currently traveling or overseas. 

The agency says that it will issue guidance on previously issued passports with an “X” marker and that more information will be available on its travel website. However, no formal policy has been released, which is fueling confusion among trans and nonbinary people trying to update their documents. 

The American Civil Liberties Union has warned trans and nonbinary Americans that if they submit a new application to change the gender marker on their passport, they risk losing access to their passport and supporting documents while their application is being processed. An ACLU spokesperson attributed this information to reports of discrimination received through the organization’s online intake form, as well as direct conversations with people who have described this happening to them.

Teddy dared to get close to these red flowers, taking a chance as they looked like they could be a Crown of Thorns. He was hopeful that in reality they were the thorn-less variety and wouldn’t poke his little nose as he tried to steal a sniff. Either they smelled great or he didn’t get poked because Teddy didn’t complain and instead had a smile on his lips.

Went out for some drinks last night 🍻

Lalalalala stuck in Vienna (a city I love) for 14 more hours than planned, in a serviceable hotel near the hauptbahnhof, which means no charming old world cafes nearby for dinner and a 25 minute walk to the dispensary for pain relief for my wife, whose Rxs are ready to pick up back home. And we leave for the airport too early to enjoy the hotel frühstuck or even a coffee from nearby. The wurstelstand is great but the guy forgot to put my pretzel in the bag.

And tomorrow we find out if they let me bring the wine I bought at duty free 15 minutes before they announced our flight was canceled back through security!
