Edwin has the higher pain tolerance.
Charles is the one who fights the battles and takes the risks.
Edwin endured decades of pain, and doesn't want to have to endure anymore. He's been through enough.
Charles has also been through enough pain and shouldn't have to go through more. He fights and protects because he doesn't want anyone else to have to go through what he did.

Being a middle child in the Marauders fandom is tough because I understand Sirius’ desire to leave his family’s toxicity. But I also understand why Regulus felt he had to stay. I understand how much it hurt Lily to feel unloved by her sister, but I also understand Petunia’s jealousy. I understand Narcissa’s sense of duty, Bellatrix’s descent into madness, and Andromeda choosing her happiness over her family’s expectations for her.
It’s a constant roller coaster of emotions every time someone brings up the sibling dynamics of these characters.
It’s also a constant battle to try not to cry when I think about them too much.

do you guys ever think about how the story starts with andrew acting quickly slamming a random racquet into neil's stomach to keep him from running away and ends with andrew acting quickly breaking riko's arm with his racquet and then using it as a shield to protect neil. because i think about it all the time.

I love how Midvalley sneers at Wolfwood that he's fallen for his mark like some noob in league with a monster that doesn't care what damage they inflict on the world, but he's so fundamentally wrong.
...Well, about Vash.
Because in the same chapter, we see Vash (once again) mourn the lives he unwillingly ended with his angel arm. We've seen him remember each name on Ship Five, even though he's been gone for quite a long time, and the impact he has on the people who choose to follow him on his journey.
However, Vash has met the worst, too. He is even asked in this volume if humankind as a whole deserve to live, and Vash admits he doesn't know.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But to Vash, a single life matters: one person being able to live, to walk forward, and yes, live with the consequences, "spitting blood," with what they've done.
Vash is not living for himself and his own future; he's keeping himself alive so Rem's memory can continue and so he can eventually stop Knives from killing more...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because each death tears him apart. Each death he carries, remembers, places on himself. He sees himself as the monster Midvalley portrays him (and Knives) as, hands stained with blood. He does not see himself worthy of redemption.
"The rest of us are just insects [to them]," says Midvalley.
But this is Vash:
Tumblr media
Here, Meryl and Wolfwood see a fundamental difference: twins they may be, but Knives is fully capable and willing to "raze every last one of them and watch in horror."
Elendira knows that and is willing to stand with Knives. Midvalley doesn't and wavers, yet he calls out Wolfwood for switching allegiances. (Wolfwood is right in one sense: they both do get burned.)
What is loyalty? I think for Vash, Meryl, and Wolfwood, it's tied up in love. But it's not blind; all three are aware of the darkness in humanity, in the people they interact with, but see the extraordinary kindness and the vulnerability, too. Midvalley simply feels disgust and fear when he's in Vash's and Knives's presences; he even tries to appeal to Wolfwood: "You know what I'm talking about, don't you?"
Meryl and Wolfwood are afraid, too--damn, are they afraid--but they know Vash. Vash is not that nebulous monster that crushes cities underneath its heel without a backward glance. He stands among the humans, and at the end, even rebuilds the destroyed city (with Wolfwood) with his own two hands.
Excellent pacing, Nightow.

Juxtaposing arguments Roy/Keeley & Jack/Keeley
Ted Lasso does parallels extremely well using the mise en scène - the physical aspects - the position of actors, the lighting, the music, to parallel or juxtapose two similar situations, physically manifesting the emotional response expected from the scene.
The fight between Jack & Keeley in her house last week was such a parallel to the one Roy & Keeley had in S2E7 Headspace & it showed the difference in their relationships.
Other than when they are standing, I’ve noticed that Roy is often lower than Keeley. We see him kneeling before her several times in S2, for example.
In S2E7 where they fight, Roy comes into the room and sits on the floor beneath Keeley so that when Keeley erupts, she’s higher than him. In fact, she stands on the sofa so that physically she is still higher than him when they fight.
Tumblr media
At the time, I thought this was a clever way to diffuse Roy’s physical dominance in an argument with her because Keeley is so petite. It would “calm” the audience so that even if Roy raised his voice, they wouldn’t worry for Keeley.
Now juxtaposition Keeley’s fight with Jack last week. It’s Keeley in the lower position on the couch. Jack is standing for almost the whole time until she sits and turns off the show Keeley was watching. Keeley is already feeling small because of her situation. Jack is wearing the colour red. She is aggressive and negative. (Note, it's not the only time that Jack is "above" Keeley in scenes.)
Tumblr media
When Roy was upset in Headspace, he looked away from Keeley before he said, “F%ck this” - not “f%ck you”. His language to her has always been purposeful. He was angry and disparaged the situation, not her, before leaving.
Whereas Jack belittled her telling her what she did was a "porno” and maybe she shouldn’t have done it in the first place.
Another small parallel is that Keeley was watching Sex and the City in both instances. I don't know if the scenes were also parallels because I never watched the show. I'll leave that to experts :)
I don't think Jack will come back, but Roy did in that instance and came back in a way that Keeley's character needed. I have a whole other theory of why the bath scene is sooooo important to Keeley - but that's for another day. ;)
I've also found that Keeley's house has been lit darker this season overall as if to reflect her mood. I'm sure there are a million other parallels but these are the ones that jump out at me.
I would also say that Roy & Keeley's discussion in the parking lot was shot at an angle to again, ensure that Roy didn't loom largely over the petite Keeley. And in my heart? His question has to be a misdirect from the show. They've written Roy all season to be dark and for us to think he's a lost cause, so that when Jamie comes to her you think things might be rekindled. I don't think that's the case. I don't think it ever was.
I also refuse to believe Roy would ask that question at that moment unless it had a different meaning than the obvious one. As mentioned, Roy's language, his choice of words to Keeley has always been purposeful, and never disparaging. A question like that is too self-absorbed and would obviously hurt Keeley. I think Roy's redemption will begin in S3E9. If it's not, it's been character assassination for no real reason, and I just don't think that's the show's intention.

Fanfiction authors (or any authors): what are your favorite things for readers to notice in your stories? The things that make you light up and go, "oh my gosh, I LOVED that you noticed that, thank you SO MUCH!!!" when a reader brings it up, the things you didn't want to point out explicitly but secretly really really hoped someone would notice or pay attention to, the things that have you smiling uncontrollably when a reader mentions it (especially when it's something they enjoyed or thought you wrote well)?
I think in general, authors have many of these in common—for example, it's always nice to be praised for your writing style or complimented on your characterization—but there's some that are specific and personal to each of us, and it's a love language of sorts. (And it may be that your writing style or characterization are things that DO mean a lot to you, specifically). Anyway. I'm curious, what makes you feel like you're glowing with happiness when a reader points it out from your writing or stories?

it occurred to me to Juxtapose the current lackadaisy triumvirate w/the former, now especially mysterious one: namely [rocky ivy freckle] vs [atlas mitzi mordecai]
you have mitzi and ivy where this is sort of an alternate, glamorous, welcoming and potentially promising world. ivy saying everyone treated her like royalty, mitzi's focus on atlas individually and the surprise of his interest & treatment.
then there's freckle and mordecai at least somewhat spontaneously drawn into "but he's just so good at it!"-based professionally shooting and killing you. perhaps also being obliged to someone as further motivation, whether they helped you finish school or not be killed today.
atlas is too mysterious & undialogued to cite any examples while considering Parallels, but you can wonder about rocky kind of being at the helm of the trio / drawing the others in, and trying to get to compose the result you want even if you're improvising your way there, but the proximity of disaster anyways
