A Paragon’s Guide to Ghosts and Mystery
Anubis House still has many things to teach Nina Martin about herself, the Paragon, and her abilities. Just as her first adventure, this one will begin at Anubis House, but who knows where else it will take her?
Chapter I
Nina still feels her nerves up in a tizzy as he looks down at her. There were only two instances in her years at Anubis House where they had sought out Victor for help, and the one that scared her the most was the one where he dismissed them, called them liars, left them on their own once more. She isn't 17 anymore. She is the Chosen One, builder of the Ankh, she had faced ancient powers and won.
"Welcome back, Chosen One." it seems to whisper. Her eyes trail towards the eighth step, to the cellar door, and remembers all the mysteries they'd unearthed.
He stares at her, as if he's reading her like a book. She's grown, maybe even taller. Her green eyes look right back at him, uncertain but unafraid.
"Ms. Martin?" Slowly, he welcomes her into the house. As soon as she crosses the threshold, she senses it greet her, the light through the windows seem to glow.
She does not miss the fact that she's grown but that he hasn't aged. He was 95 her first year here, he's easily pushing 100 now. Sarah's warnings echo in her ears again, she heeds them, she already has a plan of what to say, what to ask. Sarah spent her whole life running and hiding, her secrets still with Nina, still protected by Sibuna.
"You mentioned having questions, Ms. Martin. As I recall, you have no problem finding answers." He clasps his hands behind his back as he says this. Guilt nearly pools around his mind as he remembers his actions with the Society and during his hunt for the Elixir.
As Nina carefully picks her words and asks her question, his mind is turning, picking apart their meanings. Victor thinks, in all that he has read of the Paragon, it never mentioned all the abilities. He suspected she wasn't telling him everything.
"Did they identify themselves?" Nina answered with a name that she had no business pronouncing as well as she did.
"A common name," he pondered, ushering her up the stairs to continue the conversation.
"So were you," she wanted to reply, "So were Vera and Rufus, the teachers, a ghost. She herself was a powerful entity. She held her tongue.
Nina sits down in the chair she had once been interrogated in, noticing Corbierre's black eyes still staring right at her, yep, still unnerving.
"And you're absolutely certain that this is what you saw?" The book he held up had a picture that sent a familiar chill down her spine. "This is dangerous, Nina Martin."
"Will you help me?" The words tumbled out of her mouth.
Victor sat back in his chair, "I am the caretaker of Anubis House."
Right, a no.
"I will offer counsel, but even I do not know that you are asking."
Her locket felt like it was calling to her. A trip to the tunnels then.
"Do I still need to be in bed by ten?"
"I suggest you stay in your old room. We will look for answers tomorrow."
Nina glanced outside at the dark yellow-orange sky and felt the time zone change sink in. All the late-night shenanigans ran through her head. The memory of sneaking down the stairs, the memory of old phonographs and hidden compartments.
Victor's glare was all the answer she needed.

This has been sitting in a notebook for weeks, so I finally decided to just type it up. This will be posted here and on FFN, most likely. :) SIBUNA
