The humans of a local town are doing a yearly celebration parade celebrating being protected by their guardian deities, Latias and Latios, and are flying parade balloons made in their image and honor to show their gratefulness for their divine protection throughout the town's history. Overhead, the real Latias and Latios are observing their balloonie counterparts as they fly through the sky while the humans march along their parade route, blissfully unaware that they're being watched by the guardians whom they worship and respect. Despite Latios questioning the designs and size of these parade balloons, Latias loves them, regardless, and thinks that these humans are quite clever for being able to not only design these parade balloons so well and lifelike but also be able to get them to fly through the sky with such grace too.
This took over a week to finish and let me tell you, folks, this wasn't easy in the least bit, but it was a lot of fun to draw! Plus, it gave me some much-needed experience drawing Latias and Latios! I love these Pokemon, but dang, they're really hard to draw!
Drawing Latios and Latias outside of their horizontal flying positions is one of the most challenging things I've done as of yet! Technically speaking, I have drawn Latias before, but it's been quite some time since I last drew her and I wanted to do a better job doing so this time around. Plus, this also gave me the opportunity to draw Latos for the first time and he's also a tough cookie to draw!
Despite the difficulties, It was a ton of fun turning a Latios and a Latias into a parade balloon! I love how I did the shading with just the airbrush exclusively to give them that balloon-like aesthetic! It was also fun to add the stitching and highlights to the parade balloons as well to really add emphasis to the fact that these are parade balloons and not the real deal. (Albeit, adding these things was very time-consuming but worth it.)
For those wondering what Latias and Latios are saying to each other via, telepathy, here is their dialog, read from left to right:
Latios: What are these things? Are they supposed to be us? And why are they so huge?
Latias: I'm not sure, but regardless, I think they look cute and adorable! Humans are such clever creatures, aren't they?

31 years ago Sonic first appeared in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, where due to high winds it went veered into a street lamp and popped. This was the Eyewitness news report. Support us on Patreon

Here’s a festive Throwback Thursday photo from 1969! On this Thanksgiving, the world-famous parade passed the Museum’s 77th Street turret with a very special float: a sauropod dinosaur. This inflatable Apatosaurus measured an impressive 60 ft (18.3 m) long! The giant green dinosaur featured big eyes, a wide grin, and a 20-ft (6-m) tail. The original Apatosaurus balloon made its first parade debut in 1963 and was retired from service in 1976.
