Romanian Cuisine

So, the beginning of the month I had the pleasure to spend 8th of March with some friends in Romania and while trying their traditional kitchen I came up with the idea to create some dishes for our Sims to enjoy some delicious Romanian food too! I hope you enjoy it!

Mămăligă - polenta made out of yellow maize flour. Historically a peasant food, it was often used as a substitute for bread or even as a staple food in the poor rural areas.

Ostropel - typical Romanian stew that is primarily made from chicken mixed with a thick tomato sauce. Additionally, garlic or spring onions can be added to the dish. 

Tochitură - traditional Romanian and Moldovan dish made from pork cut into small cubes. It is traditionally served with over-easy  eggs and mămăligă.

Tochitură de Pui - Tochitură but instead of pork cuts is made with chicken.

Joffre Cake - chocolate buttermilk layer cake filled with chocolate ganache and frosted with chocolate buttercream originally created at Bucharest's Casa Capșa restaurant, shortly after WWI.

Papanași - doughnut-shaped with the doughnut hole on top traditionally fried or boiled, they are served covered in crème fraîche, and topped with sour cherries or jam.

Gogoși - sweet pastries similar to filled doughnuts that are deep-fried in oil and optionally dusted with icing sugar.

Zmeurată - alcoholic beverage produced from raspberry, sugar and alcohol.

Socată - soft drink made from the flowers of the elderberry shrub.  It may be non-alcoholic or, usually, low-alcoholic, and can be  carbonated or non-carbonated, depending on the fermentation type and  duration.

The woman behind the counter, eyes wide with shock and a touch of fear, watched as Tony clanked into her bakery. He reflected that Iron Man was probably the last customer she expected to see in this quiet Bucharest neighborhood, and therefore of concern. “Uh, how can I help you?” she asked, JARVIS providing the translation.

“I’m here on official Avengers business, ma’am,” Tony replied, pausing to let JARVIS repeat his words in the woman’s native language. “You have nothing to fear. I simply wish to buy some papanași. With plum jam, if you have it.”

For a moment, he wondered if he’d gotten the address wrong, as her expression shifted to one of confusion. But then she asked, “How many?”

Tony looked in the display case; here were a half-dozen of the round pastries each topped with what looked like a donut hole. They were just like Bucky had fondly described them. “All of them, if I may,” he replied; after all, he wanted to try one or two himself. “I’ll be taking them with me and traveling some distance.”

She looked the armor up and down, one corner of her mouth quirking up. “I see.” She wrapped each pastry in waxed paper and placed them in a box, then turned around and plucked a jar off the shelf, tucking it in next to the papanași before tying the box closed with string and handing it to him. “With my compliments, Iron Man.”

“That is very generous of you. But please, allow me to pay.” Tony handed over several bills; more than enough to cover the price of the pastries and jar of jam twice over, according to JARVIS. “For your kindness to a stranger.”

She let the bills sit on the counter for a moment, then picked them up. “The Avengers are no strangers.”

Tony smiled, even though he knew she couldn’t see it. “I didn’t mean me.”

mmmm if i have to go down the traditional food route i'd suggest Papanași - fried 'cheese' doughnuts with jam and sour cream. It's a caloric bomb as most deserts are, but it's pretty tasty, the rat poison is optional

for a non-dessert... Moussaka? it's like a lasagna but instead of the pasta layer you use potatoes and ricin sometimes. i remember liking it

Hannibal is the first person who's made Nigel have a 'gay panic' and made him back track and realize he likes men as well as women, Hannibal is the first man Nigel has EVER been attracted to besides once when he was a boy reading a magazine about cars and seeing someone, Hannibal is Nigel's psychiatrist, they have a semi rocky relationship (From Nigel's side) because Nigel tends to use a 'push and pull tactic' from his bpd, constantly withdrawing because he is scared of opening up, often missing sessions because he can't stomach seeing Hannibal, then popping back up - however he has gotten better at this and does this less frequently; Nigel sometimes will drive to Hannibal's house, park outside and watch the door because he is worried, other times he shows up wounded with cuts or bruises on him, one time even a broken bone from getting into a fight, other times it's for dinner or a meal when he skips them, as he HEAVILY likes Hannibal's cooking and will frequently ask for seconds or to take home some; Nigel obeys Hannibal's rules in his house and office and wont smoke near the buildings or inside, and will get into altercations with people if they don't listen to said rules.

The Lockharts

I’m trying to figure out how to start writing again lol, so I thought I’d start with something small and sweet. Here’s a bit of facts about the Lockhart family (mainly Marius-centric) and a bonus moodboard of Cyrus, Marius, and Val.

Some facts about the “dreaded” vampire family:

-Cyrus laughs and cries and runs down the manor halls cheering when he finds all of Marius’ school books signed “Marius Lockhart,” because he still can’t believe he’s a real father with a son who loves him.

-Val also cries when their son signs his full name as “Marius Danvers Lockhart.” Honestly, both parents are a mess about the fact that they have such a sweet kid.

-Marius and Val cook together to relieve stress. Their favorite thing to make is papanași— fried doughnuts made with cottage cheese and served with sour cream and jam.

-To everyone’s surprise, the thing that gets Tristan and Marius to bond is their love for photography. They go into the woods around the mountain to get pictures of the wildlife.

-It takes Freya and Kristine every bit of their power to not steal Marius for a day in town. They love this kid so much that they’re appointed as his godmothers in the event that anything happens to Cyrus, Val, or Tristan.

-Viktor thinks he’s the cool honorary uncle that shows up with snacks, but really he’s the worried mother baby-proofing the stairs with twenty rolls of bubble wrap.

-Cyrus learns to transform into a bat so he can carry written notes to his son’s classroom because he cannot text to save his life.

-Marius openly detests both sets of biological grandparents because of how they treated his parents. Val’s adopted father is the only one he’ll acknowledge, as well as Doctor Carrol, Cyrus’ father figure.

-Carrol is invited to every holiday, and Marius loves listening to his stories. He feels a special connection to the doctor, seeing as he saved the boy from freezing to death.

-Val’s new stepmother, Lillian, is so overjoyed at the idea of being a grandmother that she mails boxes of toys and books to the Lockharts every other month because everything she sees makes her think of Marius.

-When Rosalind is born, Marius swears to look after her as any big brother should. She then proceeds to purposely annoy him as they grow up.

-Marius finds extreme comfort in Anubis, the family dog. He’ll let him into his room at night so he can hold his warm fur while he sleeps. After Rosalind arrives, Marius trains Anubis to sleep in her room and protect her.

Romanian or German! My great-grandmother was Romanian and a survivor of the Holocaust. I would want to know the language so I could reconnect with roots and recipes that have faded over time and so that I could travel with ease to visit her homeland. ♡ She knew like 6+ languages. ^~^ we had to have someone translate her Papanași recipe!

i actually really like romanian food, i never eat it here bc i don't like to cook it and this way whenever i go back home i still have such beautiful associations with the food and the ties that bind it to my life and childhood. but my favourite food is a dessert, and it's called papanași, which is this like donut-y thing made with dough and cheese and fried, then topped with homemade blueberry jam and cream 😩 it's so good i'm salivating just thinking about it

as far as locations, romania is genuinely one of the most beautiful countries in the world (and i say this as someone who's not patriotic at all hahahaah)
