For Jewish American heritage month I want to post two of the most important comic moments in history:
Tumblr media
First in Uncanny X-Men 150. Magneto almost kills Kitty in the what appears to be just the latest of the many generic villain plans that readers had grown used to. However, this was the moment that his characterization changed forever. He is immediately regretful over striking a young child and starts to remember his own time as a child during the Holocaust. It's notable that while Magneto doesn't know this, Kitty is Jewish. She is a young mutant child who is the first textually Jewish character in Marvel comics (introduced a year before this issue came out in Uncanny 129). It’s so important to know that Kitty Pryde is the catalyst for the reveal that Magneto is a Holocaust survivor. A young girl who is both Jewish and a mutant. Who, to Magneto, represents all he ever wanted to protect. He’s trying to shape the world for kids like her, and this is where he realizes he needs to rethink how he does that. This retcon was established by Jewish author Chris Claremont and is the very foundation of the Magneto X-Men fans today know and love.
Tumblr media
Later in Uncanny 199, Kitty and Magneto attend a reception at the National Holocaust Memorial together. At this event different survivors introduce themselves and speak of family members who fates they don't know about. Kitty speaks on behalf of her grandfather to inquire about her great aunt Chava, who like most victims, has no records of her life or death to be found. Multiple survivors, including Magneto, had met Kitty's great aunt and speak about her with Kitty. Two survivors, Ruth and David, recognize and hail Magneto as a hero to them in Auschwitz. Magneto dismisses the notion he's a hero, but Kitty seems to think otherwise.
This retcon is the most important in all of comics history. Magneto is the Jewish character. He bears so much importance in representing, as the panel above states, the strength and endurance of Jewish people. The wonderful community that is being celebrated this month.

Just saw some dumb ass say the Holocaust is over taught in America. Y’all are fucking idiots. If anything, you’ve proved that you were severely undertaught about both antisemitism and the Holocaust.

i see that farcille pool drawing get reposted and got many notes and yeah i know its well made and you guys love farcille so much but reminder that the artist behind that fanart, Khyleri is already infamous by their own for the spy x family holocaust drawing that posted on holocaust memorial. not only that but they also followed stonetoss and draw porn of underaged characters, making school shooting jokes and drawing anime girls in nazi uniform

leftist jewish culture is trying to call people in about their antisemitism and their defense always going like
“omg ME?? i’m not antisemitic!! sure i’ve never bothered to learn about antisemitism or jewish history beyond a class about the holocaust in high school, and honestly i don’t think antisemitism is that big of a problem, and i think the people who talk about antisemitism are just trying to distract from palestine, and i think a lot of the conspiracy theories are actually correct, and i call everyone i disagree with a nazi, but i think the holocaust was bad so of course i’m not antisemitic”

-- small Max Edits. Magneto:Testament & X-Men Red. ||
"Rule Number One. Fight back and they will stomp in your head" they told him.
The fact that Magneto wanted to be romantic and a hero when he was just Max, before Auschwitz. He wanted to impress the girl, he wanted to help his family and do good. He fought the bullies and stood up for others.
Then he learns that the world is no place for heroes and no one will fight for it. Perhaps, you grow up to be the person you needed when you were a child.
Sometimes, I wonder if small Max would be scared of big Max.
I will never forget that Jean felt such terror when meeting small Max that she got third-person trauma.

Hamasnik collective psychosis would be funny if it didn't have real life consequences. Are people really that stupid to believe every supposed horror commited by Israel. Without even going to their tags I ran into: dogs trained to rape Arab women, metal rod rapes, injecting diseases into Palestinian water supply, burning babies alive and ton other dumb shit.
Do they realize that making shit up to demonize your enemy isn't anything new?
Do they remember when Russians claimed back in 2014. that Ukrainians razed entire Donbass to the ground and that they were crucifying babies?
Or in 90s when Serbs claimed Muslims were feeding zoo animals with live Serbian infants? Or cutting them up to harvest organs so they can fund their war? Or chaining their corpses to use them as rafts?
Both instances were made up claims spread by government officials.
But Hamas claims? No way they are made up exaggaration, it has to be true. Of course they draw a line when Jews mention what Hamas did 10/7, because you can't trust (((them))). Even though latter was filmed by Hamas themselves.
Dear anon
thank you for your essay,
Please don't use collective psychosis when you mean mass hysteria or cult indoctrination. I have psychosis, it DOES NOT make me a bigot. This language dehumanizes schizophrenic people
dog libel, blood libel and poisoining the well are all libels from the Middle Ages and they reuse it because it works each time
"Do they remember when Russians claimed back in 2014. that Ukrainians razed entire Donbass to the ground and that they were crucifying babies?" Yes anon and who has completely justified their conquest and cultural genocide of Ukraine as a holy war? Russia
"Or in 90s when Serbs claimed Muslims were feeding zoo animals with live Serbian infants? Or cutting them up to harvest organs so they can fund their war? Or chaining their corpses to use them as rafts?" Yes and it caused the BOSNIAN GENOCIDE.
"Both instances were made up claims spread by government officials." Yeah and last time a government used antisemitic propaganda to kill Jews, they caused THE HOLOCAUST.
This rhetoric, these lies KILL MILLIONS every century.
They use it BECAUSE IT WORKS, it is tried and true.
So your examples UNDERMINE your points and only prove that no one listens to the victims but instead their slandering oppressors
please write again,
Cecil

So… one of the music artists for season 2 of Arcane used to bully (a better word would actually be “torture”) me in school. Hell, I’m pretty sure they bullied every LGBTQ+ kid they encountered until they eventually came out. I’m going to put the rest under “read more” because it is potentially upsetting.
I’ve met some crappy people in my life, but I’ve never met anyone who enjoyed hurting other people so much. I’m glad they’re out now, but that doesn’t make up for the people they outed and then called “disgusting”, encouraging bystanders to join in. That doesn’t make up for them saying it’s “too bad” enough of my family survived the Holocaust for me to be born/exist. It doesn’t make up for them telling me, “You should kill yourself before someone does the rest of us a favor and murders you.” It doesn’t make up for the antisemitic slurs they hurled at me. I’ll probably live with those memories and scars forever.
The only thing I’ll give them credit for is saying, “The best part about the Salem Witch Trials is knowing you’d be the first to go.” That one was creative.
The worst part of it is, I’m not the only person who has to live with the scars this person’s behavior left behind. Compared to the things they did to other people, I almost feel like I got off easy. It breaks my heart to know that their fan base is probably made up of people they would have gleefully tormented without showing a shred of remorse.
I don’t know if I’ll keep this up here or not. It feels good to get it off my chest, but at the same time, I don’t want to put a target on my back. One panic attack over this was more than enough. (Edit: I’m leaving it up and it’s okay to reblog.)
Maybe one day I’ll be able to forgive them, but I’ll never be able to forget.

Hey, you don't have to apologize at all! <3 We all have our lives. Also, it is up to you to decide when you wish to answer or if you wish to answer some asks at all! This is supposed to be your space, so def take all the time you need!
I'm happy that I helped you put some thoughts into words, too! And like always, I agree w all you say!! Also, for the Sylvie shapeshifting part — there's a post on it (if I find it I'll send it to you), and sadly, it is true. I didn't connect the dots before, but now it makes further sense with how they use her character, too. It is stated multiple times in the series by Mobius, and in general they kept highlighting the fact that she's a female counterpart. I shouldn't be surprised, but I always am in the end 😔
And another point you made — for Ragnarok, I saw your rb and. Man. When I tell you my jaw DROPPED at that scene — like ... It's awful. I hope that we won't have that one day, even if that feels far away. None of you deserve this. Putting such lines is very harmful, because (other than the fact that it's just straight up disrespectful, racist and ignorant) while the film itself is fictional, it still has influence in real life and people could take that and think it would be fine, to belittle and mock others. I've learned about your culture and am still learning, and with everything that has transpired, things like this make everything worse. It's so widespread, too, the misinformation. Of course, the best weapon to this is to be respectful, open, informed, and curious about everything, but still, such lines should not be accepted at all. You have already stated it very well. Thank you for that.
Sorry you had to see that, Thor would never. Bruce either, that cannot be Bruce, I revoke him ... Oh, and I'm definitely up for listening to your points on this. I'm very curious about it. I'd also love to learn more about your culture!
Tumblr media
(Including your other ask here as well)
Hey! I checked out a few of her posts about it. Is this it? [Link]
In all honesty, I’m not too sure about the shape-shifting thing. But… I assume her being able to shape-shift as well as the enchanting stuff would’ve made her too “OP” (not that they really care about that) and not “distinctive” enough from Loki lol. As for her being strictly female and not fluid… man, I don’t know. I guess they wanted to focus on female rep (which they’re not really good at either) instead. They already see Loki as male, so they treated both of them as only being female/male with the ‘Sex:Fluid’ thing being an afterthought to “please” fans. Basically:
‘OKAY SHUT UP YOU’VE GOT IT! WE THREW IN A FILE SAYING HIS SEX IS FLUID DURING THE CREDITS, BUT HE IS SHOCKED WHEN A FEMALE VARIATION OF HIM SHOWS UP! Uh… it totally wasn’t an afterthought or anything, haha…”
🤦🏻‍♀️ so stupid.
Female counterpart… the writing and handling of Sylvie being female felt misogynistic to me. Okay so Loki cannot call her out on her own flaws (because how dare a female character have flaws), but also she’s automatically stronger and is so “badass”, but also she has no depth and there was little thought put into her backstory. I can straight up say that as a female that I do not want to see robotic female characters with absolutely no depth, and no flaws! Instead of them correcting the misogynistic mistakes they’ve made in the past with making a strong female character, they make her robot like because I guess that’s easier than giving a female character depth.
I feel like a good example of a well written female character is Mikasa from Attack on Titan. She is strong, but also has depth. She loves Eren, but has a personality and motives outside of that. She has weaknesses, and is not immune to struggling. She’s one of my favorite female characters, and I think more should be written like her. Anime/Manga are notoriously BAD at handling female characters, but in Attack on Titan (though there are still flaws of course), they feel real. They aren’t just there for fan service, or just to shut up female audiences with no actual care put into any part of it.
Lol sorry I deleted the RB Because I felt no one saw it, but thank you so much for reading it!
[Link] for context.
I really do appreciate you taking the time to learn about my people, and our culture. Thank you for seeing us for who we are, outside of all the hatred. It truly does mean a lot, as I’ve been discriminated against throughout my life.
I also want to point out that the joke isn’t JUST beyond disrespectful to my OWN culture, but it is disrespectful to any other culture that’s cultural clothing includes headscarves. So many people who proudly wear their headscarves (and any other cultural clothing for that matter) are targeted in hate crimes and It’s just really gross to me that they chose to mock them. It fuels hatred and ignorance. It alienates people.
A lot of people when talking about anti Roma racism mainly talk about the G word (Gypsy), but there are more important things to me than that. Like the fact that Roma children are ethnically targeted in hate crimes by non Roma ADULTS and AUTHORITY FIGURES throughout Europe, but primarily in the Balkans where a lot of us reside/have ties to.
Politicians openly spew hatred against us, with little to no repercussions. They want my people to assimilate, but when they attempt to, they are mocked and just overall treated like garbage. There’s no winning. They want them to strip themselves of our culture. Of our traditions.
I will not get into it on here a whole lot as it is absolutely vile, but my people were targeted during the Holocaust and experimented on in horrific ways. How were they targeted? Nazi scientists studied our features, and how we dressed.
That’s why jokes about how we look or how we present ourselves really are not funny. It reflects real life.
I believe I said this in so many words on the OG post, but the weirdest part to me of all of it is how little sense it makes for Bruce to make that joke to Thor. Like it was just Mark Ruffalo going out of his way to be hateful towards us once again. Thor doesn’t pay much mind to the joke if you watch the scene.
It’s funny because Thor (after his banishment), has almost always been respectful towards other groups of people from what I can remember at the top of my head.
He was respectful towards humans when he was casted out to Midgard, and he CLEARLY tolerates them to a certain extent if he’s willingly in a relationship with one, as well as willingly associate with them (The Avengers.)
‘You can’t kill an entire race..’
‘You think yourself above them?’
Thor is supposed to be open minded for an Asgardian, so.. this really was just Mark Ruffalo and his racism again. And I know he portrays himself as being aware of and deeply caring about social issues, but I guess that awareness and care excludes Roma. That’s what makes it worse. What also makes it worse is the MCU’s history of racism against us. A lot of people have talked about this on here, but the white washing of MCU Wanda/Pietro. As well as Joss Whedon’s racism towards us.
Thank you for the ask! Once again, feel more than welcome to send another any time 😁

Okay so I just finished watching Outside Xtra's video on Madame Web (which I think I saw as a recommendation in tags by @a-commas-a-pause ?) and they quickly touched on the whole "is it okay to kill a child if you know that child will grow up to do horrific things?" and because I'm me, I have Thoughts™ and Opinions™ on that.
The version of this I've come across most often and I assume most other people have come across is "If you could, would you kill a baby who grows up to be Adolf Hitler?" , which
Anyway, I think this question - and other questions like it - is incredibly stupid and incredibly pointless.
Because the question either fundamentally misunderstands Nazi Germany or it's a badly worded question trying to get at the nature of punitive justice.
If it's the latter, you could just ask "is it ethical to punish someone for crimes they will commit in the future?" instead so presumably it's the former that is intended.
Which, the former is operating on the logic that removing Hitler from the equation would have just stopped Nazi Germany from happening, and the logic has no basis in reality. If it wasn't Hitler, it would have been someone else. It might have played out differently, but Hitler wasn't the sole reason that Nazis were able to take control of Germany.
This sort of question means to ask "Is it moral to kill a child to stop that child from committing atrocities in the future?"
And applying that questions to historical figures is almost entirely useless.
It is very rare that a monumental event in history occurred due to the efforts of a single individual; it's simply that the faces of these events are the ones whose names we remember.
As such, it is also very rare that you can trace a domino trail from said historical event to a singular point of origin. Hitler being rejected from art school is not the first in a domino train that ends in the Holocaust.
I think about this way more than I should realistically, but I just think the attitude we have really highlights the way we approach history, and the knock-on effects from that.
For one, it's incredibly individualistic; very Ayn Rand. It assumes that history is made not by the people, but by one singular person. It discourages working together toward a goal and encourages competition instead.
But it also betrays a level of complacency, in my opinion. As I've pointed out above, the idea of history hinging entirely on one man is a very flawed idea. In 99% of cases, it's not possible, and yet you are expected to believe otherwise. And so where do you begin an impossible task?
You don't. You think "I'm one person, I can't change the world" and so you give up, you become complacent, but you give up believing that some person can do it, just not you. And so any guilt or shame you're feeling can easily be pushed aside. It was okay that you did nothing because nothing you did would have amounted to anything because you're not The Chosen One.
It's easier to imagine history as lots of different domino trains running parallel to each other, and easier to imagine history as what Those Important People™ do while ordinary folks do nothing, because it allows you to be complacent.
And I guess that's the conclusion because all of this has just been written off the top of my head, and I actually have plans today that I need to prepare for.

i read an article on why the fuck jeff magnum wrote ITAPOTS about anne frank and one of the lines was something like "he saw her as a secular , or jewish, saint" and it made me think about the difference between martyrdom and sainthood and how many people (cough St. Maria Goretti) didn't even want sainthood and died because of things completely unrelated to their faith, but because they happened to be of that faith and they were killed they were canonized
does this make sense.

Munday Questions. Send in a number(s) to get to know the mun better! ☆
Romanian or German! My great-grandmother was Romanian and a survivor of the Holocaust. I would want to know the language so I could reconnect with roots and recipes that have faded over time and so that I could travel with ease to visit her homeland. ♡ She knew like 6+ languages. ^~^ we had to have someone translate her Papanași recipe!

Hey, I don't know if you noticed that khanuckle is friends with someone named lepartidelamort, who goes on unhinged Holocaust denying rants multiple times a day. I've been trying to report their hate speech, and found that the following are the most blatantly hate speech filled posts they have (and in English, so hopefully more likely that staff responds). Idk if you're okay with helping to report them:

It would be nice to have help making sure tumblr staff responds. Wish you the best.

Nobody tell them that while Rorschach is a right winger who is vaguely Christian and extremely anti sex and misogynist, however his only friend is nerdy Jewish inventor named Dan Dreiberg
Also nobody tell them about the time he murdered a priest when he found he was a rapist and a serial killer with the priest's own rapture sign and took the sign for himself as Rorschach believed he embodied those ideals better
He would kill with a your own weapons, christofascists
while you can try reporting these I suggest you mass report the one wishes I was killed in the holocaust instead
