the @silverfanzine has been out for a week and our pieces can finally breach containment, so here's my first one :) very much inspired by the mountain goats' album goths, the vibe definitely changed from my initial thoughts but regardless im happy with how the final piece turned out!

SMALL PROJECTS: - Charcuterie, three zine collections. the first two are compilations of small games ive written and released in various forms, the third is short stories and poetry. messy, weird, barely edited, stuffed with doodles, a lot of fun. - Stationkeeping, a small Animal Crossing-inspired game about renovating a dinky space station, slowly expanding it out and occasionally meeting aliens or other players on their own journeys. played on index cards you carry with you and fill out as you do various things in your life. - Maybe One Day, It'll Be Enough - a game about war gods sentenced to infinite community service for their crimes. played by throwing a ball against a brick wall. for hours. originally released as a tumblr post here. - NOT WEAVERDICE, half a core mechanic for a superhero game, half a ramble about superhero ttrpgs and how to have fun with them. im currently working on a game that expands out this idea, called Unskilled Labor. - MORTAL POP!BAT, a 616-page Funko Pop wargame. yeah, im including it in the small projects category. fuck you. - Wintergreen, an OSR game that fits inside a mint tin. one of my earliest released games, still has some pretty cute ideas.

we are now taking submissions for the 3rd annual sorry mom zine! one of my favorite parts of the year is announcing our zine and seeing all the incredible art you guys make, and im stoked to see what you come up with this year. art of any and all medium and subject matter is encouraged- just make sure it fits onto a page! if you happen to be coming to one of our upcoming shows on the east coast, we will have a zine table set up with collage supplies, but as usual we are also taking submissions through email! every year we donate and match ALL the proceeds we make from zine sales to a different organization, and this year we will be supporting Anera, a non-governmental org that does amazing and necessary work providing aid to the people of Palestine. Submissions are open until august 1st- have fun, get weird, and we can't wait to see what you create!

i think an interesting opposition to rpf that ive heard quite often over the years is people claiming that they've had friends who were a bit too invested in their relationships and had fanfiction written about them which they found weird or invasive. in that specific case, it makes a lot of sense to feel uncomfortable with any art or stories of real living people in sexual or romantic situations that they didn't consent to being in and then being shown said art and fic. rpf (at least before youtube) was always incredibly niche and considered generally weird, all the way back in star trek fandom days, but it's also kinda always existed. the 1960s mclennon fics dan joked about in his now deleted video about shipping culture WERE A REAL THING! one could argue shakespeare participated in rpf! (its on the wikipedia page about real people fanfiction i am not joking go check) or perhaps even the bible!!!!

but obviously with more historical tales, people don't really find a problem with that because they were all written so long ago and we've greatly mythologized a lot of the kings shakespeare wrote about for example where they may as well be fictional characters since we dont have any way of knowing their true personalities anymore, and with kings in the 15-1600s there was definitely no direct line of communication between royalty and the common people the way a modern day celebrity can easily just tweet to their fans about their everyday life.

i think the dawn of youtubers and internet fame and social media was the first time that the people being written about were actively discussing the stories that were being told, and the first time that people were directly sending them links to fics or art of them making out. (but correct me if im wrong! maybe paul mccartney has an interview out there where talks about having to sign a girl's beatles fanfic zine lmao.) but thats the first time anyone was actively talking about it outside of "oh, thats just a weird thing that some people do, lets just leave them in the corner" and it was the first time that this was being brought to people's attention at a much larger scale. even just in the phandom, a lot of comments under the reupload of dan's shipping video were like "this is the video that actually taught me what shipping was" (lmao @ dan accidentally creating his own beast of burden)

so it's just this unprecedented moment of this (being fully honest as a fic writer myself) Pretty Weird Thing That We Do coming into light. but it didn't just start with pretty boy youtubers or even boy bands.

and i could probably somehow tie this in with my whole thing about yaoi/slash as a genre created primarily by and for women not really being about gay men necessarily but rather a way for women to express parts of themselves that are generally repressed by using characters they can't project onto so they don't have to imagine themselves in more taboo scenarios that they secretly want to explore. but i think thats enough yap from me today lmao

I actually made another little mini zine about the process - I perfect bound it myself at a local university's print lab, they have a glue binding machine so it was pretty efficient but I also talk about how to do it yourself with clamps : https://svvord.itch.io/perfect-bound

I will say one tip that I figured out after making it - having an extra "blank" page (I just duplicated the pattern on the inside cover) at the beginning and end so the cover doesn't get bent away from the interior page block as much and is more sturdy.

The Fool – What do the earliest stages of work on a game look like for you? OR How did you get into game design?

i had a dream that me and @hmooncreates were playing not a tabloid because i had made it for him and when i woke up i still remembered everything about the game so i just actually made it :) and then was like bet that was fun and made like 8 more games in the next month

The Empress — Where do your ideas come from? OR Do you seek out or avoid inspiration while working on an idea?

i usually start with a mechanic that i think could be cool and then build a game around it. for mama werewolf i wanted it to be very nature-based, so your move tokens are found in nature and the scenes are determined by the weather. for lullaby nights i wanted a game that could be played entirely with a music app, no dice or cards needed. for dead man's hand i wanted something where a full hand of cards had an influence on the story, not just drawing them individually. and then i just go from there!! often i try to hit on mechanics i havent used in my other games, i dont like to repeat myself too much!!

i've written three books, have published some poetry zines on itch, worked as a graphic designer for a few years, have been drawing since i was very little, hand sew stuffed animals, and dabble in embroidery :) i like being creative

@mintandrabbits has been GMing a game of apocalypse keys that ive been having so much fun with :)) im really enjoying the system so far and i do think i'll have to do a deep dive into the rulebook to really study how it works. def the kind of game i could see building into my thesis

The Tower — Talk about about a game you tried to make that crashed and burned.

i really tried strong arming my way through a game that i just kept losing steam on and finally put away but ... it was a duet game where you play domovoy and/or kikimora (slavic house spirits) and the family whos house you live in has left the baby at home alone. you have to keep the baby happy until the family comes back, or, if they dont, kidnap the baby to be raised with the spirits. i do enjoy the idea i just couldnt get my feet under me with it

i'll answer this one again hehe. i'm really happy with the narrator paradox!! its a game where you are a storybook narrator and your protagonist is trying to defy you and escape the story. i think it turned out surprisingly cohesive for a one page game!! i've been very interested in one pagers recently, i think theyre fun :o)

the sketching stage is finally complete! Very happy I was able to pull through especially when I have been feeling pretty depressed lately but thankfully the pages that just needed sketching weren't much

I'd love to share more sketch thumbnails but! a lot happens down in the chapter that I would like to keep as a surprise. In total this chapter will be 46 pages long. I don't think lineart takes me too long?? sketching takes me a while cause I gotta figure out everything so it looks nice, so linart is just polishing those ideas. I'll figure out how I'll progress also with like trying to figure out when to start coloring

also finally, I will be making this into a pdf file and sell it on my kofi, i am adding a paywall as it is stuff that I want to keep everyone for a surprise once its done. But it will work as a tip for me for ppl who want to support my progress, I would like to do monthly support but i dont know how I'll work around that. I feel like just having a kofi shop and selling digital files of my work and with commissions is more than enough for me. I feel comfortable with just that tbh <3

also...lol going back to making this sketching stage a digital zine. I was wondering if I should wait until I get my linework done. I was thinking for this is to have two file versions. The progress which is just me showing my progress from writing to lineart. And the second one to be the complete chapter fully colored and everything added along with sketch drawings and references that I used for this chapter. Yello! I'm Aqua (@aquacomet) and I'm super excited to be a page artist for both main and bonus zines! This would be my first time being part of a zine and while some of this a new experience, I am over the moon to be able to contribute and cook up some neat art alongside some amazing artists!

The daycare attendant has been living in my head rent-free ever since release day of security breach in 2021! I loved how their differing personalities shine through in their animations and voice work. Along with the space/celestial-themed designs (which I love immensely), many other reasons to love them continued to pile up which was only intensified by the fandom and I did not stand a chance. Even so, I have had an absolute blast being a part of it!

this is my zine, abomasum!! i made apoxamately two issues and then abandoned it. through, i plan on coming back to it once nanowrimo is over. so expect a late december to early release !!

an abomasum is the lowest stomach in an animal like a cow with multiple stomaches, hence the "from the lowest belly of the beast"
