Meet Researcher Talloran. He's working on a new SCP entry, but he just can't quite figure out what to write next...
I've been adapting SCPs to audio for over four years now, and I've always wanted to adapt this story- but if you're ever read it, you'd know it's a mess. Lines crossed out, whole pages of one repeating word, a neverending joke.
It's a lot.
I'd describe this episode as writer's block personified. And it has all the emotional turmoil you'd expect.
I'm really excited that the team managed to pull this together, and I had an absolute blast editing it, so I hope you enjoy listening!

Out of Place is an audio drama that accomplished something I would have said was impossible: it combined alternate history and horror, and it did so frighteningly well. This is my review.
I’m always grateful to have the r/audiodrama sub help to help me find new audio dramas to listen to. I find my new shows to fall in love with. Such is the case with Out of Place.
Out of Place follows a man named Andrew Moss. He had been studying history in university, but wound up dropping out. Still, he's making the best of things. He's gotten as an archivist for a mysterious organization called The Carruthers Institute. He's cataloging historical artifacts, but there's something off about them. The artifacts seem to contradict recorded history. It soon becomes clear that the artifacts are from parallel worlds where history went differently. Andrew must examine the artifacts to determine how the history of their worlds differs from our own. All the while, Andrew ponders who his mysterious benefactor is.
Out of Place is part of the Midnight Disease network of audio dramas. It includes several other fine show, like Theatre of Tomorrow. Out of Place is created by Ben Counter, who also voices Andrew. It is produced by @pacificobadiah, who is the founder of Midnight Disease. The episodes are presented in the form of audio logs that Andrew has recorded. This means that Ben has to carry the entire show all by himself. Well, with the exception of the final episode of the season, but we'll get to that in due time. Anyway, there's no music or sound effects; it's just purely him narrating. In situations like this the narrator is going to make or break the show. Thankfully, Ben's narration is all that Out of Place needed to succeed.
Out of Place managed to do something I would have previously said was impossible. It combined alternate history and horror, and did so to great effect. It also did so without resorting to the typical Nazi victory or Confederate victory scenarios. Some episodes hint at supernatural elements, but for the most part, the horror is derived from down-to-earth alternate history. Much of the horror comes simply from the cruelty of humans to their fellow humans. The premise of a man cataloging strange artifacts for a mysterious organization reminded me of the SCP Foundation. In fact, I'd argue that Out of Place is almost a better SCP podcast than most of the actual SCP podcasts.
I also appreciated the amount of creativity and originality put into the worlds featured in Out of Place. They aren’t alternate host scenarios you tend to see very often. I applaud everyone at Out of Place for going against the grain.
Have you listened to Out of Place? If so, what is you think?

Happy Audio Drama Sunday! I was busy doing many things this week, but luckily they were the kind of things that facilitate a lot of audio drama listening. Shall we?
👹 G.O.B.L.I.N.S. is amazing. I love an office sitcom in any case, but an office sitcom with two goblins, an elf prince, and an overly enthusiastic government pencil pusher is an inspired idea. I really want this show to exist more, so if you can, consider helping them on their crowdfund!
💋 Josie’s Lonely Hearts Club this week was HILARIOUS. The presidential puns were so delightful, and I also ended the episode wanting to fight a veterinarian. Can’t wait to see where this season is going.
🌚 @hellofromthehallowoods is always so good at creating these gorgeous soft character moments, and I adore middle-aged Buck. Watching this man gracefully age into a husband and father who likes himself, who knows he is loved, is such a far cry from the poor little guy he used to be. I really don’t want him to get eaten by a vampire. Are you hearing me, Mx Wellman?
📻 Breaker Whiskey ended for now and ohhhhhhh. Oh man. I cried. The experience of listening to this story feels very early audio drama, and that’s definitely by design. Lauren Shippen let the story wander and discover itself, and we got to discover it too. Was it a flawless story? No story is, but getting to revel in the wandering just made it better. Whatever’s next for the story, I have enjoyed the ride.
🥛 The Silt Verses. That’s it. I found this episode entrancing. How’s this going to end?
🥃 Breathing Space this week was hilarious. In a rare voice acting appearance by Pacific Obadiah and some familiar voices from Melissa Lusk and Katrina Pecina as well as the ol' Breathing Space standbys, this heartfelt, witty, and above all very silly episode felt really good. I just loved it.
🐟 In Travelling Light this week, VERMI'S BACK. My favorite guy! And it seems we won't be seeing the last of this guy, either. Thank you Hero for my life. Friendship is gonna solve all the traveller's problems and I couldn't be happier.
🧟♀️ In Hannah News, The Dead started a new series called Turas that I really think you should check out. It’s set on a Scottish isle with Scottish Gaelic, and zombies, and sister dynamics, and it’s so good guys. Our main actors, Michelle Kelly and Bonnie Calderwood Aspinwall, are absolutely killing it, alongside an amazing cast. Please tune in, you won't regret it.
🧛🏻♀️ Also this week, I got the chance to hop on Re: Dracula's July Q&A for our patrons! You gotta check out our patreon, y'all, creating gothic fiction has been so much fun. We're hard at work on Carmilla while Re: Drac is having its second go-round. Join usssssss.
That's all for me this week! It's long enough as it is. See you next week!

The town of Mayfair is just like any other: tidy lawns and book clubs, bake sales and Sunday school. And just like any other town, Mayfair has a secret - one that everyone knows, but almost no one says: Along the bus routes and down silent wooded roads, behind the mill and at the dark end of parking lots, at the edge of the porch, just beyond the lamp light, things move in the shadows. But, Mayfair is a town like any other: and a secret like this can only stay hidden for so long.
Mayfair Watcher's Society is a creepy anthology by Pacific Obadiah and Trevor Henderson exploring stories behind the latter's well known art. It's scary, it's weird, and it's fun! You can catch my voice in a couple of episodes (check out Flash Bulb!). Because the show is an anthology, you can jump in at any episode that catches your eye. The sound design is rich and vivid, drawing you into this town with a secret and making you want to keep an eye on the shadows that lurk in the corners.

Audio Fiction 10
I've been a little lax about these reviews, not without reason. Part of that reason is that I write these at work, so it's a question of down time and how much energy I have. And part is that I got to a point where I felt like I was repeating myself or didn't have enough to say about a show. It's harder than I thought it would be to review multiple shows without just saying the same things over and over. I guess that's why people use formulas for these types of things. I think of myself as well read and well spoken, but my vocabulary for this sort of activity feels like it comes up short. Also, I'm desperate to avoid spoilers because I came to most of these blind and the ones I love most are the ones that surprised me.
So in order to keep things going (or get them going again), I'm going to shake things up a bit. This will be a grab bag post, brief reviews of a handful of shows I don't have enough to fill an entire post with. I'm also going to limit myself to five, so I don't go too long and still have material for future posts.
Let's jump right in:
Zero Hours
Created, written, directed and produced by Sarah Shachat, Gabriel Urbina, and Zach Valenti. I followed this trio over from Wolf 359, a show I have reviewed yet but hopefully soon. I picked that show up from trailers and followed Gabriel and Zach there from The Bright Sessions.
Zero Hours is an anthology show about the end of the world. Each episode is a different apocalypse scenario featuring different characters, allowing the creators to meditate on a new theme each time. Some are funny; some are sad; some are heartwarming. Each episode creates its own world and I fell entirely into every one. It's a limited run, only 10 episodes, so definitely worth your time. 5 out of 5 stars.
Out of Place
Produced by (the prolific) Pacific S. Obadiah and written by and starring Ben Counter. I came to this one through one of Pacific's other shows, because the concept seemed fun.
Out of Place is narrated by a character who works cataloguing artifacts for a museum. The catch is that every so often he'll get an artifact that clearly isn't from our reality. The show, which is an anthology format with each episode centering around a different artifact, is a description of the item and then the narrator speculating about the world it came from. There's also a slow-burn story taking place that links them all. It's fun and interesting. 4 out of 5 stars.
Mayfair Watchers Society
Another Pacific S. Obadiah show, this one is produced by Tom Owen and Brad Miska with sound design by Brad Colbroock.
Based on the works of writer/artist Trevor Henderson, Mayfair Watchers is an anthology horror series set in the town of Mayfair. Each episode focuses on some new creature, with a new cast of characters. What I like about this show is that it's very small town, so the reactions and interactions with these eldritch manifestations feel very organic and genuine as they're coming from normal people instead of soldiers or scientists. 4 out of 5 stars.
That's all for now. Hopefully more soon.

Worthy Brief - February 20, 2024
In the midst of civil war!
Matthew 24:7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places.
In the Olivet discourse recorded in Matthew 24, Yeshua prophesied that "… nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom." The word "nation" in Greek is the word "ethnos", from which we get the English word "ethnic". All of this polarization and ethnic warfare which the media feed upon and incite is the work of the enemy as he stirs up the sinful nature of men.
Thus we are seeing uprisings all across the globe. What is our prophetic calling for this time of upheaval? I’m reminded of the tumultuous events which preceded the American Civil War, the ensuing conflict, and the words of the famed revivalist, D.L. Moody:
“In 1857 a revival swept over this country in the east and on to the western cities, clear over to the Pacific coast. It was God calling the nation to Himself. Half a million people united with the Church at that time. Then the war broke out. We were baptized with the Holy Ghost in 1857, and in 1861 we were baptized in blood. It was a call of mercy, preceding judgment.”
In the midst of this present chaos we see an opportunity for revival which could precede the judgment of God, that in His mercy, the Lord might again send laborers to the harvest in the power of His Holy Spirit. So many people, disillusioned and hopeless in this present world could be ready to hear and respond to the message of salvation. Instead of lamenting, grumbling, and fearing all that is coming on the earth, let's focus on this potential harvest, doing everything in our power and gifting to contribute to it.
Don’t allow the enemy to steal your joy in these troubled times of strife and conflict. Be filled with His love and His passion for souls, and act on it in any and every way you can!
Your family in the Lord with much agape love,
George, Baht Rivka, Obadiah and Elianna (Dallas, TX) (Vicksburg, Mississippi)

trying to listen to the latest offering from Pacific S. Obadiah, an expansion on the SCP-2316/Bodies in the Water story, but idk if i can get into it. i can't tell if it's because i'm not super into SCP shit (though i do like that particular story) or because i don't think a single person on the cast knows what people in Arkansas sound like.
especially not Brian David Gilbert. god bless him, but what... what accent IS that???
#just use your regular voice mister gilbert#it will be fine#audio drama#my beloved Graham Rowat is in this though so i guess i'll keep listening
