Happy Wednesday, all! I’m wiped out, and I think I’m about to get another raise at work. That’s not a bad thing of course, but I’ve had two already this year and both times were when I suddenly had to take on a load of someone else’s responsibilities because they couldn’t get the job done and I can. I can’t, really, I just somehow do? *side-eyes incredible burnout lurking in the corner* Talking about it with the director last week, they named a couple of options for me with a salary range where the lowest number is what I’m already making. “You know, I’m currently making x,” I said, and watched their face fall. “…Shit!”

A well-oiled machine, I tell you. Anyway, my current hours (which are about to change again) allow for me to get up early and do some writing before I head out, and I’ve actually been doing it! I noodle around with other projects occasionally, but far and away I’ve made the most progress with @rimeswithpurple’s and my COBB, Time Will Lie Down and Be Still. It’s a Practical Magic AU if this is the first time you’re hearing about it, and I can’t say enough about Arianna’s stunning illustrations in each chapter!

This is from chapter 3, currently still being written, and since Simon finally makes an appearance (and Penny!) I’ll share a bit from his pov:

“Davy gave you this case?” When I nod, Penny narrows her eyes. “So there’s a magickal component then…”

I don’t answer at first, but if there’s one thing Penelope is aces at, it’s waiting me out. Her patience is phenomenal. (From putting up with me this long, she’d tell you.) (She’s probably got a point.) Finally, I sigh and let the papers flop back down onto the desk. “Person of interest, Devereaux Grimm, is an old-family mage who’s been seen in connection with Bodmer for the past fortnight. They’re almost definitely sleeping together and Grimm may or may not know anything about Bodmer’s latest scam, which appears to be some kind of immortality co-op.”

Penny shrugs.

“Not all my cases are magickal,” I grumble. She gives me a look that I’ve come to know as sceptical but indulgent, and after a long moment I push the papers toward her.

also guys i need you to tell me how brave and kind and strong i am. because i am a Good Person who is letting a friend stay at my house friday afternoon through sunday evening. even though this means i will NOT get to play Veilguard in the evenings either (since i will also not be able to play it during the day, as i will be working out of the house for the ren faire booth i run for 10-11 hours each day). like if there was any polite way to tell a guest "sorry its 8pm now i need you to go to the guest room and not speak to me again tonight so i can get in my 3 hours of game time before bed" but there is no way to do that that would be insane. sigh. And he is TWELVE. He has a world to see, people to meet and so many things to do. Romance isn't the first thing one should be concerned about at that age. He's still a child, who's learning about himself. (It can be said about everyone in the show, tbh)

I don't even remember who I had a crush on at that age. Thinking back, it's not even important anymore. (In middle school, no one took love seriously THINKING that we were serious)

And being rejected isn't the end of the world??? I've been through the same thing. And I'm still alive. He will live. It will be something fun (or cringe) to remember when he doesn't care about it anymore.

Plus, do you really wanna let him brood over something that happened when he was 12?? For the rest of his life???
