Sometimes I find it so hard to be kind to myself. I know I deserve it, and I know I should make it a habit to think about myself for once, but it's hard to begin doing something like that when I was never taught to save a piece of myself to keep warm instead of giving it all away so others could feel the warmth instead.

I beat myself up for never texting you or getting back in contact with you but I often disregard the fact that a phone goes both ways.

sometimes i will see your name or hear it from the mouth of another and i will see the image of you when you were seven flash in my head and i will be reminded of the fact that we are growing and diverging in different paths. i will not forget the kindness you showed me or the empathy you taught me, nor will i forget the love you gave to me willingly when i was a nasty child. thank you for giving me these happy memories. i think i will live on that joy for a lifetime. it is because of you that i learned kindness was a cure, not a curse. for that, i will thank you for a lifetime.
