Today, I'd like to highlight one of the best Owl House fics I've ever read. The premise is the stuff of crack fic fame: a human world AU in which Eda owns a trucking company and Luz is her apprentice. Hampered by her curse (sciatica), Eda gives up the newest job to Luz: get a girl across the country by the weekend. That girl is, of course, Amity Blight, heiress to the Blight fortunes and robotics genius. Her mother is trying to sabotage her life, and now she gets to get from San Francisco to Boston with tons of robotics materials by Friday. It's already Monday afternoon. Can they make it in time? Described as the slowest fast burn in fic history, expect a shocking number of chapters for the speed at which their relationship develops. I've been working hard on this fic over the past week or so, and I'm super excited to finally post about it! It's a Percy Jackson/Demigod AU, and has been an absolute blast to write so far!

@lunar-jewels has been the coolest ever and is beta reading for me. (Thank you so much!!)

SUMMARY:

Now she’s on a quest, and she doesn’t even know who her godly parent is. But if she and her friends don’t find and rescue a missing child of Hades, then Luz’s world as she knows it will be torn to pieces.

Part 4 [Last Part]

Hunter started losing hope. He wondered if Willow was just a fever dream. He watched the flowers they had planted wither one by one, each petal falling.

Then, as he was about to leave the forest, he heard a faint crack from a broken branch. His heart thumped in anticipation, only to be crushed as he turned around.

It was a different person. The girl before him gazed at him with tired, puffy eyes.

Hunter felt his world drop. What did the girl say? Why was she saying sorry to him? Willow? Willow had a heart disease? Since when?

Millions of questions passed through his mind as he tried to process what was happening. By the time he had gained some sense, he had already accepted the letter in his hand as he watched Amity walk away, wiping her tears.

Hunter opened the letter with trembling hands, his throat lumping painfully. The letter was written in a positive way; Willow wrote in a very hopeful and happy tone.

He lost the strength in his knees, his tears finally falling involuntarily as he clutched the grass on the ground. He couldn't accept such a thing. All he could do was ask why.

His cries echoed through the silent forest, each sob tearing through the silence. The memories of their time together surged through his mind—her laughter, her bright smile, the way she lovingly planted each flower despite knowing it might not survive. He remembered how she would brush the dirt off her dress, the twinkle in her eye whenever they discovered a new bird for his camera.

The flowers around him seemed to mourn as well, their petals falling one by one to the pain and loss that enveloped him. Each petal that drifted to the ground felt like a piece of his heart breaking away, the delicate blooms wilting in sympathy with his grief.

The wind blew softly, carrying the petals on the ground flying and draping over him. He felt a gentle touch, almost like a caress, on his head. In his mind’s eye, he saw her smile, the most beautiful thing in the world.

She was the most vibrant person he had ever known, yet like the flowers, she withered quickly.

But she remained, her presence blooming on the forest floor and in their hearts forever.

As you can see, her feelings are very much reciprocated. This scene is from my fanfic, Your Touch | Freedom to be Me, part of the Broken and Beloved AU. In this universe, Luz became homeless at an early age and spent several years on the run, only arriving in the Boiling Isles two years after the events of canon had already taken place. The Children’s House AU

Eda basically turned her house into a mini orphanage by accident after she adopted her first human. She takes in witches and humans alike and takes care of them with the occasional help of her parents. Gwendolyn is much more active and has an easier time coming over compared to Dell who sometimes stays back at their family home when he can’t make the trip. Basically Eda grows to love kids and can’t stand to see any child in any unfortunate situation. They’re all one big found family.

Luz is her newest child who is the first that wasn’t technically brought in by someone, she wandered through the portal and convinced Eda to let her stay because she “didn’t want to be sent away.” And the story goes from there.

(We are not discussing the moral implications of taking kids without going through any legal processes. I wanted a huge found family and this is how I’m making it. Legality can screw itself.)

Unbeknownst to him, there was someone else. Someone who desperately hoped.

Willow looked outside, seeing the blue sky from the windows. Her world had shrunk to the confines of white walls and beeping monitors.

She held a pen and a piece of paper. Her fingers trembled slightly as she wrote, her bright smile still in place but unable to mask the tiredness in her eyes, devoid of light.

"I promise that I-" She stopped writing, her hands trembling more visibly now. She grabbed the eraser and carefully removed those words. She couldn't promise something she might not be able to fulfill, and the weight of that reality pressed heavily on her heart.

After finishing her letter, she smiled bitterly. Her eyes filled with unshed tears as she looked outside the window. As she watched the sky, she thought of Hunter. She yearned for the time they spent together, moments when she could momentarily forget the tubes and machines and simply exist in each other's company.

"I'll see you soon," she whispered. It was a white lie, however well-intentioned. It was still a lie.

She closed her eyes, taking in the peaceful quiet. But her heart thumped loudly, crying for a miracle. She knew the truth—that her time was running out—but she clung to the hope that somehow, someway.

In the quiet of her room, Willow held on to the hope that their connection, however brief and fragile, would continue to bloom like the flowers they planted together. And as she drifted into a restless sleep, her dreams were filled with the forest, the red cardinal, and the promise of a love that could endure beyond the bounds of time and illness.
