“I hate Luz! She’s annoying!” “The show would’ve been so much better without Luz.” “Luz is such a poorly written character.” Bro then why did you keep watching? She’s literally the main character. If you were seething in rage every time she was on screen you can’t convince me you enjoyed watching the show.

Why is she annoying? Why don’t you like her? Is it because she’s a 14 year old who acts like… a 14 year old? Is it because she’s made some minor mistakes? Just like literally every other character? Is it because she’s a girl? A teenage girl? A female who isn’t perfect? A girl with flaws? Is it because she’s a non white female character?

Do you hate when Luz is loud and outspoken but love when Eda or King does it? Do you think Luz is a terrible person but were quick to forgive Amity? Do you think Luz is irredeemable but don’t hate Alador for how he treated his kids? Do you nitpick every little thing Luz does and says but consider Hunter a perfect little baby who can do no wrong?

You’re allowed to not like characters but sometimes you need to take a step back and consider if it’s due to your own biases. If you just don’t find Luz relatable or whatever that’s fine but constantly bashing her over such non issues when you don’t do the same for male and/or white characters is not.

As much as I like how people headcanon Amity with a bigger nose to match Alador, I prefer the fact that she looks so similar to Odalia in canon.

Like, sure, Edric and Emira obviously share some features with her, but Amity practically looks identical to her mother.

Who's to say that Odalia didn't take advantage of how similar they look and tried to make Amity "Odalia 2.0"? Sure, they're not in the same coven, but the Blight Industries heavily uses Abomination magic so Odalia is willing to look past that (seeing Amity's abomination magic as beneficial for the business).

Maybe that's why she's way harsher and more strict on Amity as opposed to her older siblings. She saw herself in Amity and felt like she had to turn her into a carbon copy of herself.

Think about it. Up until "Escaping Expulsion", Amity was forced to wear a necklace with which Odalia was always able to talk to her and control her every move. She was also used as a way to display the new Abomatons to potential customers (which is extremely dangerous and careless) as some form of discipline or punishment.

Here's what Odalia told Amity in the beginning of "Escaping Expulsion", during one of said displays as an example:

"Make this look good, and we'll forgive your recent lackluster performance in school."

Also, I know that Odalia dyed Amity's hair green so she can be more "colour coordinated" with her siblings, but c'mon; Amity's green hair is much closer to Odalia's hair than the twins'

I feel like a lot of "Camila shouldnt have been a nerd, it should have been Manny and Camila should have been the neurotypical one." Criticism fail to take into account the inter generational trauma that exists in POC families especially POC neurodivergent families. Like the criticism boils down to this- "Luz comes across more of a jerk as she wasnt That lonely. Camila would have been more understanding of Luz if she was actually neurodivergent and would not have try and send her to the camp" and i am like no, no she wouldnt have. Neurodivergency in people of colour often goes undiagnosed especially if they are women of colour and especially if they are from older generation. And often times these older folks grow up to believe that the neurodivergent issues that they dealt with was a failure on their part rather than you know, them being neurodivergent. Which is how we get adult parents who say shit like, "Oh everybody has [a very specific symptom of a neurodivergent brain]. You just got to go through it [aka i did not get any support growing up and had to deal with this on my own]."

And this to me fits Camila and Luz. The way i interpret the problem was that it was never that Camila didnt understand Luz, but rather that she did understand her while not understanding herself. She saw her own self in Luz, her own isolation and years dealing with bullying and treated as an outcast but never stopped to examine WHY it happened to her. She didnt want Luz to go through what she went through so she turned to what worked for her, trying to change yourself to fit even if it meant hiding parts of herself. And this is ultimately what caused their relationship to falter. Add Manny's death and them being new in town further resulted in both of them, especially Luz being isolated and outcast, from the town and from each other. And ultimately them coming to an understanding, with Camila admitting her nerdy side to Luz and to herself was what helped their relationship and truly let Luz to discover what she truly want and thus hatching her palisman.

Should toh have had explored Luz's loneliness and isolation better? Absolutely! Did Camila try her best especially as a single mother? Yes! Has Camila contributed to said loneliness and isolation? Also yes! Camila to me is the opposite of Eda. Where Eda was the neurodivergent kid who grew up fighting the system to be herself, Camila was the neurodivergent kid who grew up to accept the system thus rejecting herself. Which was why Luz flourished much more and felt more accepted under Eda's tutelege than she did with Camila, and i wish this is the angle toh explored more.

And look i dont want to begrudge anyone who feels the other way and doesnt agree with me. They have the right to their own interpretation which are based on their own valid experiences. But i prefer this interpretation a lot more to theirs.

this might be a hot take and i might not be remembering much, but i feel like amity and willow should've been the "we're cordial and get along for the sake of the people we mutually care about" or "friend of a friend" dynamic instead of what the canon gave us.

Luz and Hunter Sibling Headcannons

I am currently obsessed with these two and their sibling dynamic so here is a collection of headcannons I’ve managed to cook up about them;

It annoyed Luz that Hunter was both taller and older than her so whenever she talked about her brother she always called him “Little Bro” just to get on his nerves. That little annoyance spiralled out of control and now nobody believes Hunter when he tries to explain that, in fact, he’s the older sibling.

Hunter is fascinated with sewing and one night he unknowingly sewed up all of Luz’s purposefully ripped jeans. He woke up to a very rude awakening the next day (Luz still wears the jeans though)

Luz forced Hunter to have an Azura Movie Marathon one night, she ended up falling asleep at the beginning of movie 2 but the story enthralled Hunter so much that he ended up finishing the series and cried his heart out at the finale. Now they have a common interest with Hunters newfound respect for the series.

When Hunter started living at the Noceda residence permenantly, he asked Camila what ‘Hermano’ means and why Luz kept calling him that. He cried when he found out what it meant and now calls Luz ‘Hermana’  whenever the opportunity arises.

Whenever Luz falls asleep on the couch or any other precarious place in the house, Hunter picks her up piggyback style and carries her to bed. If you ask him though its ‘for his own conscience’ and no other reason.

Nightmares about Belos still haunt the both of them even in the human realm, so it’s not uncommon for one of them to come over to the others room late at night and ask to sleep there. It’s almost become routine for Camila to go wake up Luz and find her two children cuddled up close in her bed. (She always gives them time to wake up by themselves when that happens)

They steal eachothers clothes all the time. Hunter likes to take Luz’s beanies to hide his ears and Luz steals Hunter’s hoodies because they’re big and comfy.

There is an unspoken agreement between the two siblings that if one of them asks for a hug you give that hug, no questions asked. Sure its Luz asking Hunter for a hug a large majority of the time but the rare moment arises that Hunter asks for one Luz makes sure to make it tight and comforting. Sometimes Luz also asks for a hug when she knows that Hunters had a bad day but is too embarrassed to ask for one himself.

Speaking of hugs, Hunter usually avoids hugs like the plague. This confused Luz at first, thinking that it was some undealt trauma from living with Belos, until she found out that its actually because Hunter deems hugs ‘too comfortable’  and falls asleep every time someone hugs him. Now whenever Luz finds Hunter up too late she attacks him in a hug, knocking him out cold in seconds.

They might act like they hate each other and tease one another in public but if someone else is teasing their sibling then its a whole different story. One time Luz came back home with a bruise on her face after some bully punched her at school, let’s just say that Hunter made very sure it would never happen again. 

Luz introduced Hunter to the furry fandom after he started showing interest in Wolves. She ended up drawing him a fursona based on his description (which he thanked her profusely for afterwards) and he keeps it hung up on his wall

TOH: The Forgiveness Scene

There is so much I can say about this scene but it’s huge seeing a situation where the perpetrator of violence WILL NOT stop and that not everyone deserves a one millionth chance at doing the right thing. Here’s a magic user expressing kindness and forgiveness to Belos, and he takes advantage of it and tries to kill them. He thinks the witches are bad because they “took” everything from him and his interactions with them “justify” his worldview, but of course people hate you if you want them dead.

I feel that a lot of queer people, people of color, disabled people are expected to appease the people who want them dead, are told that we’re being rude and we should hear people out because their opinions matter. The Collector, being an absolutely beautiful optimist, thinks that they can just hug Belos and suddenly everything will be fine because the Collector is being kind to him. But that’s not what Belos wants, he’s never cared about the morality of the Isles or it’s inhabitants, he’s never cared about who they are as people. He wants to be the hero in his delusion and he’s going to kill as many witches as he can. 

We don’t owe oppressors forgiveness or appeasement or a platform because they will continue to oppress us. Normal people with bad beliefs? You can try to talk them off that path. You can see that in the narrative with Lilith, and Caleb, who both turned it around. But Caleb died trying to negotiate with Belos, because yeah. Some people don’t deserve your forgiveness.
