“The Philistines took him and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza. They bound him with bronze fetters, and he became a grinder in the prison” (Judges 16: 21).
That is what sin does. It blinds you and makes a fool out of you.
Sin causes people to do completely irrational things. We all know the story: men and women leave loving spouses and precious children to go have their so-called fling. Then they come to regret it. Samson gave into sin not knowing he’s being robbed of his calling of being Israel’s judge, until his eyes were gouged out of his sockets.
Sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay.
Don’t be deceived by sin. If it comes knocking on your door, don’t answer.

The Disposition of Sin
The disposition of sin reveals itself in our mindset. Self-realization can become harmful when we prioritize our desires over higher values. Both moral and immoral acts can stem from a sinful disposition, often hiding true intentions.
Understanding sin is crucial, especially for those in recovery or facing a crisis of faith. Sin influences our actions and thoughts, turning self-realization into self-centeredness. It is more than moral failure; it creates barriers to healing and spiritual growth. The Bible provides a foundation for this understanding. Sin entered humanity through Adam and Eve’s disobedience, leading to death…

✝️- How to control your wrath🤍
~ religious content ahead:)
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
What does God tell us about wrath?
He tells us that we shouldn’t avenge ourselves, that we should remain calm and he will take care of everything for us. Romans 12:19
Furthermore, he tells us that hateful malice shall not come out of our mouthes as children of God. Our ideal personality and likeliness is being peaceful, kind, loving, and pure. To rid all hate and blasphemy from your mouth, even in moments of anger. Colossians 3:8
Now, how do we control such a consuming thing?
Step one- don’t act on impulse, instead, wait on everything that makes you mad and choose your words wisely. God told us this in Psalms 4:4. Choosing to wait it out and let the anger slowly pass from your spirit helps you take a breather and look at all perspectives, it also gives you time to speak to God about it.
Step two- however, if you’re still waiting until the time you are starting to fall asleep, you have to dig deeper into the situation. Ephesians 4:26 tells us that we shall not let the sun go down and sleep in anger. This is so important. Waiting in peace in silence for the anger to die down and going to sleep angry are different, in many ways. Going to sleep angry is the cause of restless sleep and possible last interactions, so it’s important that we pray a deep prayer first, find peace. Then go to sleep.
Step three- recognize arguing is a waste of time and only shoves you more towards the sin of wrath. Proverbs 20:3 Calmly explaining your feelings is not arguing, just make sure that you catch your tongue and think about all the things that God has blessed you with. It calms you down and keeps your eyes focused on the lord instead of rage.
Step four- kind words. Never forget, we are all children of God. He loves us and he wants us to love each other. Don’t be blinded by wrath. Instead, focus on being kind. It’s better for the other person to calm down, and better for your relationship with God. Proverbs 16:24
Step five- forgive. Yes, I know that it’s hard. Yes, I understand when your heart reaches in the deepest voids and refuses to forgive, scars slashed across it, but it will do way more positivity than you imagine. Colossians 3:13 forgiving leads you to peace, happiness, and rests your inner quarrels. I know it’s hard to forgive, so praying, reading Bible verses about forgiving ( Ephesians 4:32, Luke 23:24; how Jesus asked God to forgive sin, Matthew 5:44)
Proverbs 14:30
Remember that God is always with you Amen.

Living in Alignment with God’s Will and The Mind of Christ
Introduction:In the journey of Christian faith, believers often find themselves wrestling with the dichotomy between the “carnal mind” and the “renewed mind.” The carnal mind, also referred to as the “worldly mind,” is inclined toward sin, temptation, and the distractions of the flesh. On the other hand, the renewed mind is aligned with the will of God, filled with peace, love, and the presence…

Scripture of the Day. August 17/2023.
God’s power does not rest on the weakness that glory in sin. God’s power does not rest on the weakness of humans, which gives them the lessons and excuses to carry out some willful sin acts. The weakness Paul refers to is the result of a person that has come to the end of its soul-driven strength and power.

Psalm 47:1 Shouts Of Triumph
Oh, clap your hands, all you peoples! Shout to God with the voice of triumph! Psalm 47:1 Anytime that there is a victory over something, there are shouts of triumph being given. Fans will shout extremely loud when their favorite basketball or football team scores some points, or even more so when they win the game in triumph over the opposing team. Victory always brings about great excitement…

I have a germ of a theory that good Christian fiction has stories that are less about shaving down your personality to meet some specific mold of what a good Christian looks like, and more about "how gloriously different are all the saints."
Not that the Christian life doesn't involve fighting against our own sinful nature and conforming ourselves to Christ-like behavior, but I think it makes for better, more realistic, and more universal stories when you also recognize that people have different gifts and flaws and they're going to be called to use their unique personalities to serve the kingdom of God in their own unique way, instead of assuming everyone has to conform themselves to a very specific (often secular-culturally based) image of good behavior. It makes for a much more vibrant story.
#catholic things#books#i'm still ruminating on charlotte yonge#because i usually contrast modern christian fiction with how the classics incorporated christianity#but she's the first classic victorian author i've found that i'd describe as writing christian fiction#which makes for a more direct comparison#she did handle religion in some very good ways#but i tried another of her books after 'heir'#and it reminded me of what i didn't like about the childhood section of 'heir'#but magnified a lot#she wants to show her children overcoming flaws#but she has a very narrow english anglo-catholic view of goodness#and that means her idea of christianity can come across as very judgemental and narrow-minded#things that are not actually sins in and of themselves are treated as moral failings inherent to other cultures#and the kids spend so much time worrying about cutting out sin that you don't get to see enough of their unique personality#i'd be willing to try more from her but i think i'd have to stick to the stories about adult characters

i've been rewatching parts of banquet and realizing the question kuwadorian beatrice most desperately wanted answered (and the question no one could even begin to answer without having to admit out loud how badly they have failed her) was "who am i?"
and that it is exactly that same question that beatrice poses to battler at the end of alliance as her final test for him before giving up. battler may forget his sin, but can he at the very least tell beatrice who she is? can he do this one thing that kinzo could not?
#and battler answers the question (too late)#just like genji and the others told sayo who she really was (too late)#and kinzo understood the gravity of his own sin (far far too late)#'who am i' not just a literal question of identity but a question of substance#what is the stuff that makes me up? who is the person you see me as? what created me? what made me like this?#another case of beatrice placing battler in kinzo's position#as if to test him. as if to say. prove to me that his blood can be overcome#prove to me that a product of him has a hope of being anything better.#wsec.txt#seagullposting#augh. beatrice.#c: bluebird#c: ahaha.wav#c: one yet many

There is a somewhat infuriating person who keeps coming up on our fyp, who firmly believes that no person should ever be allowed to cover up hateful tattoos, and that any tattoo artist who does so is an awful person. Because to him they deserved to wear the mark of what they were forever, to never find community or healing or the chance to make a positive change in the world around them.
I will likely never interact with this man, but it is always tempting to ask;
At what point does sin stain a soul forever? At what point is someone truly, irrevocably irredeemable? At what point do they cease to be a human, a creature capable of change and good? At what point did you decide that punishing the stained and irredeemable was worth the cost of trying to make the world better?
It is always punishment. Some idea of righteous sadism that outweighs the fact that the past is the past and will always be the past and the future can always be better, so long as it is there to change.
Pragmatically, this approach does nothing but make you edge closer to the people who think mere existence is the sin that stains the body the soul the blood. To the people that believe ‘criminal’ is a state of being rather than circumstance. To the very type of sin you say is incurable.
Anyway. Anger without focused intent towards positive change is, as the kids say, cringe.
#of; soleil#the use of the word sin is intentional and designed to hearken to christianity#but be aware that is not the path i am on#non rebloggable because the rest of the system have no intent towards Entering The Discourse again#i was simply overcome with The Urge and figured i might as well post the word-vomit for other eyes

Victory Over the Power of Evil (Luke 4:31-37)
Even though our thinking is important and critical, there is more to it than that: Orthodoxy (right belief) requires orthopraxy (right actions).
He went down to Capernaum, a village in Galilee. He was teaching the people on the Sabbath. They were surprised and impressed—his teaching was so forthright, so confident, so authoritative, not the quibbling and quoting they were used to. In the meeting place that day there was a man demonically disturbed. He screamed, “Stop! What business do you have here with us, Jesus? Nazarene! I know what…

Fun fact: I've never heard the first part of this hymn before! I had no idea it goes so hard!
#christianity#jesus paid it all#the phrase was repeated a lot in today's sermon so I looked up the old song#and I kinda just sat in awe of the first few lines#the sermon already kinda destroyed me since it was about rejecting legalism and accepting God's free grace and love#reminding us to not burden ourselves with trying to live up to standards but receiving His spirit who's already done the work for us#and this is how He has set us free from the burdens and sins we know we cannot make up for or overcome ourselves#and I've been needing to hear that exact thing repeatedly for a couple years now

“God has defeated Satan through the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Through this overwhelming victory, God has also empowered you to overcome any temptation to sin and has provided sufficient resources for you to respond biblically to any problem of life. By relying on God’s power and being obedient to His Word, you can be an overcomer in any situation.” - John Broger
