Wayne van Zwoll, a veteran hunter and outdoorsman, evaluates the Alps Outdoorz Waterproof Rifle Case, which is designed as a dry bag for rifles, providing protection against harsh outdoor conditions. This review covers the durable construction of the case, made from abrasion and rip-resistant 500 D welded PVC material, featuring high-density closed-cell foam padding for cushioning. The case is spacious enough to fit rifles with longer barrels and large scopes, accommodating various equipment through its generous dimensions. With no zippers, the closure involves a roll-up mechanism with a buckle, similar to standard dry bags, ensuring full waterproof performance when tested under sprinkling conditions. Van Zwoll highlights its portability and versatility, noting the case's lightweight design and adjustable carrying features, which make it suitable for backcountry travel. The cost-effective pricing at approximately $100 makes it an appealing option where traditional hard cases are impractical. Additionally, the article mentions a comparable waterproof shotgun case, showcasing the reliability and practicality of the Alps Outdoorz products for protecting firearms in challenging environments.

Goodwill, bringer of 100% linen pants to my closet for only $8
#back in the day it would have been $5. but inflation has not been kind#patter#they're selling some shirts for $10 these days. that should be a price reserved for designer labels in like-new condition#on the other hand you can still find outdoor gear like arcteryx and columbia for under $20. which is a steal#the pros of living among bougie athleisure families

why do we have to go over the whole "buildings in ireland and britain are built to trap heat and they don't have central a/c so 80℉/25℃ is really bad for them" thing every fucking summer lmao
#i think people (americans) are being obtuse when they just screenshot the weather and its in the high 70s like 'lol'#HOWEVER on the other side i really feel like brits dont fully understand what summers in the american south are like lmao#like i do think they would perish even with air conditioned buildings if they had to spend 2+ hrs outdoors#the whole 'but the uk is humid !!!!' thing doesnt work bc this isnt a desert either its MORE humid than the uk in fact#it is actually not legal to rent a housing unit to a tenant here if it doesnt have working a/c its as basic as plumbing.....

The Chilling Effect of the Polar Vortex: A Winter Phenomenon Strikes Regina, Saskatchewan, and Beyond
Shaina Tranquilino
January 20, 2024
As winter settles in across the Northern Hemisphere, intense cold snaps and frosty weather systems are not uncommon. However, every few years, a particularly extreme weather event occurs that captures headlines worldwide – the polar vortex. Recently, this frigid phenomenon has unleashed its icy grip on numerous regions, including Regina, Saskatchewan in Canada. In this blog post, we will explore what exactly the polar vortex is, how it affects our lives, and why it's important to understand this chilling meteorological occurrence.
Understanding the Polar Vortex:
The polar vortex is an area of low pressure situated near the Earth's poles. It is characterized by strong winds circulating counterclockwise around a center of extremely cold air. These winds form a tight spiral pattern high up in the atmosphere known as the jet stream.
Normally confined to the Arctic region during winter months, occasionally these powerful winds weaken or shift southward due to complex atmospheric dynamics. This results in a sudden intrusion of bitterly cold arctic air into lower latitudes — a phenomenon experts refer to as a "polar outbreak" or "polar vortex event."
The Impact on Regina and Beyond:
Regina, located in central Canada's prairies and often referred to as one of the coldest cities in the country, experienced firsthand the brutal effects of the polar vortex. As temperatures plummeted well below freezing point (reaching as low as -50°C), everyday life ground to a halt. Transportation was disrupted or delayed, and residents were advised to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.
But Regina wasn't alone; other parts of North America also fell under the influence of this winter nightmare. States such as Texas faced unprecedented snowfall and record-breaking low temperatures that crippled infrastructure unprepared for extreme winter conditions. Similarly, Europe witnessed heavy snowfalls and sub-zero temperatures, causing travel chaos and affecting millions of people.
Coping with the Vortex:
During a polar vortex event, it is crucial to prioritize safety and take appropriate measures to protect oneself from the extreme cold. Staying indoors, dressing in layers, ensuring adequate heating, and avoiding unnecessary exposure are all vital precautions. Furthermore, maintaining communication with neighbours, especially vulnerable individuals such as the elderly or those without proper shelter, becomes essential.
Understanding Climate Change's Role:
While it may seem counterintuitive that global warming could cause severe cold spells like the polar vortex event, climate change plays a role in its occurrence. The melting Arctic ice due to rising global temperatures weakens the jet stream, causing it to become wavier and allowing frigid air masses to escape the poles more frequently. As a result, these events can intensify due to climate change but remain sporadic and unpredictable.
The recent polar vortex event has left Regina and various parts of the world shivering in an icy grip. Understanding this meteorological phenomenon helps us recognize its impact on our daily lives while appreciating the importance of preparedness during such extreme weather events. By taking necessary precautions and fostering community support, we can navigate through these frosty times together until warmer days return.
Note: It is important to keep up with local news sources and official guidelines regarding any current or future polar vortex events for accurate information and safety instructions in your specific region.

I just always loved that type of weather so much more and generally didn't like heat#MY version of ''OOh nice weather to go outside in!!!'' would be like.. 40F and partly cloudy. or gray skies misty and 60F or so. lol#... misty with gray skies my dearly beloved.... fog...... hail.... precipitation in general.... my closest ally and companion#... now I am daydreaming about them (cold weather conditions)...

I had another great water workout this morning. 😊💦❣️
I struggled Monday: froze up and went into tremors with cognitive impairment, but luckily was near the edge and able to get myself back out after it passed (I'm shaky & weak & have vertigo after those episodes). 😵💫
I was in a pretty harsh crash all week but thought the cool water would help with the muscle fatigue & joint pain. 😬🤦♀️
I went to acupuncture Thursday and got a great reset 🙌 and was able to enjoy a good half hour of physical therapy / exercise yesterday and today. 💖
I'm so proud of myself for getting back up and trying again, over and over, and doing what I can - when I can. And also knowing when to rest & recover, which is a lot of trial & error: figuring it out as I go. 🙃
I wanted to go swim early this morning at 830am but I had a whole respiratory flare-up that set me back... but once that passed, I still went. ✨️😁✨️
It's been almost 3 years now, but I'm still hopeful for a full recovery, and doing everything I can to be the happiest healthiest version of myself I can be today (every day) - and for my future self.
🎯
Whatever YOUR "hard" is, keep focusing forward while fully living in the NOW - creating your day and your future with mindful intention. "Choose Yourself" in ways that serve you best, that also allow you to better serve others. 💕 xo
