it's so important to me that johnny lawrence was basically in tears when he handed daniel the trophy, that boy had been keeping in all emotions except for rage for so long and daniel gave him permission to feel everything all at once (and then kreese almost killed him for it)

Ok but sometimes the most infuriating political stance a person can have is point blank refusing to discuss social issues with you when you bring it up because they "don't want to get political". Don't open the tags unless you want to read a rant
#my random stuff#vaguepost#vent post#like... babes. how do i explain EVERY DAMN THING YOU DO can be considered political by some metric#YES that includes your silence#also the fact that they will happily talk about being a socialist and fuck the tories and everything#but then if i ever want to discuss something that doesn't directly affect them they will literally just shut me down#like i know our normal friendship consists of sunshine and rainbows and silliness#but I'd fucking appreciate if you didn't ruin that friendship by refusing to agree with me about things that should be a no brainer#I can't even discuss fucking JK ROWLING with them!! because their sibling loves harry potter and they always say “it's just a kids series”#and “let them have their nostalgia”#OH I'M SORRY.#DOES YOUR FUCKING NOSTALGIA MEAN MORE TO YOU THAN MY LITERAL SURVIVAL AND HEALTH???#like. I'm sorry but there's more important things here#babygirl i don't know how to explain to you#that if a political party said they were going to kill all lefties people BUT give all right handed people unlimited access to horror films#you would vote for them wouldn't you?#even though I'm left handed you'd say “of course i support left handedness how can you even question that”#<- shit metaphor. i know.#but i could point out “yeah they want to kill me” and they'd say “I just don't know enough about it to discuss this; sorry”#like??? if you don't know enough#maybe. fucking?? educate yourself??? by having discussions about it???#PLEASE pull your head out the sand sweetie#saying you care is just empty fucking words#i shouldn't be saying this; they're one of my oldest friends but GOD.#if you can't even agree with me about jkr being a fucking holocaust denier we're going to keep having problems

Incredible sequence of posts on the dash just now
#to be clear bc i know im swinging a bat at a hornets nest i think both of these posts make decent points#i am a socialist but i do not believe that revolutionary and reformist politics are necessarily mutually exclusive#multiple things can be true at once#capitalism is a fundamentally exploitative and violent system which must be swiftly dismantled for the sake of all life on the planet#and those who enter parliamentary politics in hopes of enacting reform often end up serving the interests of capital and western imperialis#but at the same time#we must not abrogate responsibility by refusing to exercise our hard-won democratic right to participate in elections#its an insult to the millions of people around the world living under authoritarian regimes for one thing and its fucking stupid for anothe#we must be realistic about the state of class consciousness in most western societies and work pragmatically with the tools available to us#we must also try to minimise harm and suffering as best we can and produce the best outcome for the greatest number of people#while also not leaving behind those who are marginalised#at times both reform and revolution seem impossible tasks and yet we must continue to work towards them both as best we can#on the topic of voting - i live in australia where its compulsory and where we also have preferential voting#which means that its impossible to “waste your vote” by voting for a minor party#i typically vote for our greens party - who are the largest minor party in the country and the most progressive on most issues#for example they're basically the only ones consistently condemning our (labour) government's support of israel#so to be clear for the americans reading these tags#if i lived in the USA i would vote in every election#i might sometimes vote for democratic candidates if they had genuinely progressive policies#but no i would not “vote blue no matter who”#okay i'm finished tilting at windmills now im just paranoid about being misinterpreted asdgfhjklk#voting#elections#the trolley problem#reform#revolution#leftist#socialism#marxist

#nothing is more depressing than working on my cv#because I just don't feel like I have marketable skills#and so many of the writing and research posts I come across on job sites are like ''you'll be working alongside ai''#I even saw a copywriter post that said ''you won't be doing any writing or editing. you job will be to refine and improve ai prompts#so that the ai can more consistently produce the texts we need''#like hello#the person doing that job is literally making themself more obsolete by the day#so here's the plan#I need to take any job that pays vaguely well#and use that money to either do short corses#or save up to go so my masters#that conclusion is inescapable#just. for now I'm still stuck on step 1 : finding a decent job#and (perhaps I'm being too picky) but post covid I do not want to go back into anything in the tourism industry#it's too precarious and honestly just comes down to entertaining rich people which pushes me further left every time i think about it#I considered joining the communist party. but 1) they're still part of the tripartite alliance with the anc... which is a no from me#and 2) communist révolution should spontaneously happen in industrialised countries with surplus wealth when the proletariat arise#south africa does not have surplus wealth nor class consciousness really. it's still filtered through post apartheid racial groupings#which is unhelpful because the black bourgeoisie are not our allies just because they're black#and trying to impose communism in a society without the surplus wealth didn't work out too well throughout the 20th century#so what does that leave you with#parties like cope ? plagued by the same issues as the anc ? no thank you#(I did also study politics btw which is why I've even considered these career paths)#(although I haven't worked in politics or governance since graduation so maybe that doesn't even matter anymore it's been years)#all I want is a job that pays fairly and leaves me with enough free time to do my hobbies#I do not have the grindset I'll admit that#which is why I've enjoyed the art industry#but again. it just comes down to entertaining rich people in the small galleries which is needlessly stressful#and the larger non-commercial galleries and musea aren't hiring atm...#and that's it. rant over I guess since this is the 30th tag

sometimes i think about the fact that when we started curse of strahd our dm decided not to have ismark travel with us, in-character because he has, like, a job and a responsibility to the village of barovia as the new burgomaster and out of character because they didn't want to have too many npcs with the party all the time
and now several months later we're collecting npcs like they're fucking pokemon

I've been busy with work and had a bit of an art block, but I did manage to finish this big "draw your squad" piece with our Witcher ttrpg party (including characters we've swapped out for new ones along the way)
This is the longest campaign I've ever taken part in (both storywise and irl), and I love our characters a lot! We have my sorceress, a witcher, bard, druid, "legitimate merchant", mercenary, and two doctors, though not all are in play at once. And a companion wolf!

This is real, btw. The version of Project 2025 i'm looking at rn, it's on a different page, but it's in Chapter 4: Department of Defense, Section DOD Personnel, Subsection Needed Reforms: Recruitment and Retention, Item 3.
And this is just one of the horrifying things these dudes are proposing, the list goes on and on and on and on and on.
Now, this is run by The Heritage Foundation, which is a Conservative think-tank, not Trump himself. The Project has actually been publicly disavowed by Trump, and they can't officially back him, but many theorize he's publicly distancing himself from it because of one of its authors openly espousing a "second American Revolution" and that his remarks ring false when some politicians who are known close allies of Trump were involved in authoring it.
Regardless of whether or not the grifter is involved, though, this is the face of the Conservative Party. They are becoming more and more openly fascist by the day. This is beyond just Trump now, he was just some fucking guy who wanted power and attention, but his influence has been to embolden the Far Right to attempt to seize control and remake America into a militaristic, theocratic, white dictatorship where dissent is not tolerated. I'm not scaremongering, the pdf is available, they couch it in very formal language, but that is their end goal.
So yeah, if it stops the country i live in from going the way of all those poor countries the CIA fucked into a fascist coma during the Cold War, i'm voting for Joe Biden, i don't give a shit if the man is a corpse on a golden throne, i don't give a shit if he is personally signing off on the assassination of Palestinian civilians, i'm still voting for him, because he is still the one that is not going to ruin my fucking life and the lives of everyone i know. I know that's cold and brutal, but so is reality. One term, and the man's Supreme court appointments already overturned Roe v. Wade and his supporters stormed the Capitol. Nobody thinks it's going to happen to you until it does. America is not immune to totalitarianism, and i am not about to let some holier-than-thou internet activists and zoomers who can't be arsed to vote let this country turn into Nazi Germany 2: Electric Boogaloo.

All the takes are correct and yet they also miss the point. Yes, it was insane for the Democrats to think they could win by running a soulless candidate, without a shred of progressive policy vision, pursuing endorsements from neocon war-hawks everybody hates, while arming and funding a genocide, and belittling and crushing those who have enough morality to protest it. It is enraging that the Democrats are so smug and blind to this. But these are all just symptoms. The deeper reality is that liberalism has failed, liberalism is dead, and people urgently need to wake up to this fact and respond accordingly. It is a defunct ideology that cannot offer any meaningful solutions to our social and ecological crises and it must be abandoned. Democrats have proven over and over again that they cannot accept even basic steps like public healthcare, affordable housing, and a public job guarantee - things that would dramatically improve the material, social and political conditions of the working classes. And they cannot accept a public finance strategy that would steer production away from fossil fuels and toward green transition to give us a shot at a liveable future. Why? Because these things run against the objectives of capital accumulation. And for liberals capital is sacrosanct. They will do whatever it takes to ensure elite accumulation, it is their only consistent commitment. At home, they suppress and demonize progressive and socialist tendencies. Abroad, they engage in endless wars and violence to suppress input prices in the global South and prevent any possibility of sovereign economic development. The Democrats have done all this purposefully and knowingly, for my whole life, not as some kind of "mistake" but in full consciousness that it is in the interests of capital. And because liberalism cannot address our crises, and because it crushes socialist alternatives, it inevitably paves the way for right-wing populism. They know this pattern, and yet they risk it every time - this election being only the most recent example. They did it in 2016, when they actively crushed the Sanders campaign and sent Trump to the White House. They do it because ultimately they (and I mean the liberal ruling class here) don't really mind if fascists take power, so long as the latter too ensure the conditions for capital accumulation. They 100% prefer this to the possibility of a socialist alternative. So, progressives have to face reality. The dream of "converting" the Democratic party is dead. This is now a fact and it must be accepted. The only option is to build a mass-based movement that can reclaim the working classes and mobilize a political vehicle that can integrate disparate progressive struggles into a unified and formidable political force and achieve substantive transformation. This will take real work, actual organizing, but it must be done and that process must begin now.

When it comes to high-context and low-context cultures, where one has the expectation of people understanding specific subtle nuances of what someone says, and the other has the expectation that everything needs to be explicitly said to be understood, I've heard plenty of people from low-context cultures ask "why not say what you mean and mean what you say then, why would you have to speak in riddles?" about high-context ones, like people of the latter type are just being cryptic and esoteric on purpose.
But culture does not consist of things you do on purpose, it is just the way things are done where you were raised. And when you were raised in a high-context culture, the thought of needing to explicitly state something instead of using some phrase or expression that you've learned to use comes as a culture shock, too. It's not "fuck you for not correctly understanding my riddles three", but "oh shit, I hadn't occurred to me that I would need to say that out loud."
The first time I went on a business trip to the US, my partner came with me, and we immediately discovered that he does not fare well on long flights. So when my publisher asked me about future trips, inquiring whether my partner would be coming with me, I asked him. He said that he would, if the flights weren't such a problem - he would need to travel in some way where he could get his feet up or lay down during flights, like business class or first class. Being also a finn, I understood what he meant and relayed the message as is to my publisher, not considering that they might not.
To both of our surprise, they started to actually look for first class tickets for us.
Finnish culture is a high-context one, people don't talk much and aren't very confrontational. Being demanding and putting someone else into a position where they're forced to be upfront or demanding is rude. And in finnish, saying "this would only be possible if these entirely absurd/completely impossible conditions were met" is a polite way of saying "no". You are simply explaining why something cannot be done, without either saying an explicit "no" or seeming like you're making up excuses. It offers the other party an opportunity to agree that these conditions cannot be met, so neither party will come off as confrontational or demanding.
Both me and my boyfriend considered it self-evident that the request was absurd, and could not be read as anything but a polite way to decline. It had not occurred to me that an american's natural response to "it would be impossible to do this" is to start figuring out how to do it anyway.

Sooo this year for Spooky Day I wanted to go all out and create my very own set! 🎃 Just like most of us, my love for Simblreen knows no bounds so I wanted to try and turn it into something we can use to clutter up our sims' homes and get them ready for the spookiest night of the year.
My biggest inspiration for this set were vintage Halloween masks and decorations from the '90s, cryptids and a horror movie here and there.
The set consists of (from left to right):
box with spooky decorations (3,265 polys; 3 swatches)
spooky tube (functional tv; 3,578 polys; 3 swatches)
spooky party shelf (1,309 polys; 3 swatches)
DIY cardboard dancing skeleton (1,664 polys; 3 swatches)
bigfoot cardboard cutout (318 polys; 1 swatch)
stuff of nightmares (1,178 polys; 2 swatches)
mothman cardboard cutout (170 polys; 1 swatch)
the dancing skeleton craft box (2,295 polys; 1 swatch)
Most of the textures were hand painted by me and the Bigfoot and Mothman cutouts were inspired by this artwork.
Hope you guys will enjoy this set, put it to good use and Happy Simblreen! 🎃
