ONE MORE THING

Something that’s becoming more and more relevant the more I write is deciding which fics fit in the Shinsou expansion pack (which is intended to be as close to canon compliant as possible) and which belong outside of it. That being said, in my brain a lot of my Shinsou fics take place in the same timeline/universe, so part of the reason I like writing what he says vs what he thinks so much is that I like to think as he grows more comfortable & confident, especially after he gets approved for the Hero Course, he starts to be a little more genuinely expressive around people, which includes getting to joke around more.

It’s probably pretty obvious that I Love Writing Shinsou, but I think he may also be the character I’m most comfortable writing at this point? That’s actually why he has a tendency to sneak into fics featuring characters or genres I’m unsure about; he was my rock when I was writing ‘there’s no good tricks but old ones’ as well as the second, angstier part of the Star Wars au (which I am chewing on again when I have the brain space for it :D)

So there are a lot of things I love to do when writing him!! One favorite is probably making him outwardly polite—particularly to his teachers and older UA peers—but inwardly a little sassy, or sometimes just kind of goofy. Basically I really like writing his narration, as well as the occasions when another POV character is aware enough to kind of know what’s going on in his head that he isn’t saying it loud.

Something I dislike is that I feel I have a tendency to make him kinda?? too anxious?? Idk I feel like my own anxiety sometimes comes through too much in his POV, and I spend a lot of my editing time with Shinsou telling him to calm down lol. I actually have two (2) (!!) finished Shinsou fics I haven’t posted yet because they’re just several thousand words of anxiety spiral I don’t know how to fix 😭

You're on the verge of breaking into tears, but you think you have it under control. Then one tiny little thing has it all unraveling, and you open your mouth to say you're fine but it gets caught in your throat and you can feel the sob threatening to leap out of your chest and you hate yourself for not being able to control it. Eldritch Danny thoughts

I want to delve deeper into the eldritch Danny because I fricking love the concept and you will never be able to change my mind.

What is the most eldritch our human minds can make up? How would people conceptualize an eldritch Danny and how would Danny’s mind evolve (I’m sure jazz has a field day with that one) to deal with the changes of his incomprehensible powers? I love to throw in space obsession and that the powers of ghosts evolve along with their obsession to suit their needs.

So will Danny take over the entire sky, with the entire world just looking into a biblically accurate angel, with teeth that could also be hands, or maybe eyes? You don’t know. Or will it be like a void with your brain tricking you into thinking that that should not be possible. There is a hole, a black hole, or maybe just a void, or is it just a black sheet of paper? You don’t know, your brain does not have the processing capacity needed nor the senses to truly conclude that.

Does reality shatter when he appears? Or does it just move out of the way when Danny appears? Does he just seem to have always been a part of that reality even though you’re also sure he wasn’t here a second ago?

Will the people get eldritch madness from looking at him by glimpsing into the mind and inner workings of a being that should never be available to the human mind? Do they forever leave a part of themselves behind or is Danny kind enough (naturally) to limit himself into the limits of human comprehension?

There is so much fun to be had with eldritch creatures and I absolutely love them! Just the thought of us being this insignificant part of the universe while others watch dispassionately like ecologists do to great tits and mice. Just like billionaires do to their underpaid workers. Watching, able to help, but to them, you’re nothing. They have the power to traverse universes where you are just one of many, a fun puzzle piece to hang up on the wall to maybe glance at once a year. Are you really real to them? Will Danny keep this humanity because of his past and upbringing? Will he just become dispassionate because well, he basically ascended?

Some wholesome stuff, we guess

There is a period in time where Irep and Peri are friends. Genuinely friends. They have sleepovers and hangout outside of school (though, Peri does bully Irep in school still— he has an image to uphold. This only hurts and confuses Irep, but, whatever. At least he has a friend other than Sammy Sweetsparkle.)

They have sleepovers at Anti-Cosmo's castle— Irep simply tells Cosmo and Wanda he's trying to reconnect with his dad. Which, is partly true. Anyway. The two do a lot of things at these sleepovers, games, talking, painting each other's nails, watching movies— cuddles. All of it.

Anyway. We have a small scene where Peri and Irep are getting ready for bed.

Irep, being lazy (and using his magic a lot), is just chilling in bed after poofing his pj's on. Peri, however, is used to not using his magic for stuff like this. So, he just tells Irep to look away as he gets changed. Which! Irep does!! Peri also turns around, so nothing gets seen. (Also he's wearing a binder.)

But when someone's getting changed right in front of you it's pretty easy to see something on accident. Irep catching a glimpse of his stretch marks (from magical buildup as a kid) on accident, and questioning him about them. Peri being hesitant to respond, and Irep picking up on how he's a little self conscious about them. However Irep finds them kind of cute. Like some people find freckles cute. The conversation might go sort of like this?

"Oh, they're kinda cute."

"Wh— Huh?"

"I said they're cute."

After Peri finishes getting ready Irep just pulling him in for a little comfort cuddle. It's a lot more comfortable than trying to sleep on the opposite sides of the bed, though Irep doesn't mind sleeping on the ceiling like a bat. What Irep doesn't know is that Peri finds it absolutely adorable when he wakes up to find Irep's face buried in his neck, he knows it's comforting for him.

It's a habit Irep developed during their sleepovers, but it stays with him for life. Whenever he's hugged by someone he's genuinely comfortable with, he ends up hiding his face in their neck/shoulder.

They both find these smaller things about each other endearing. It's a shame the two are destined to hate each other.
