W the Loblaws boycott coming up for May, I do have to voice some worries.
Weltons corporation is. Huge. Absurdly so. I just wanna put that out there. Boycotting loblaws, superstore, shoppers, etc MAY make the owners notice smth, but the likelihood is that... They won't care.
This is because outside of loblaws and their public facing stores, welton foods also does things like hotel food delivery, hospital food delivery, college and university food delivery. And by food delivery i do mean that they are SUPPLIERS of raw materials and such for these kitchens and restaurants. They're a major player in the food industry here, to the point where i actively know of several of their IT contracts + know what their shit is like bc of connections in the restaurant and bar industries who have EXPLICITLY complained abt this shit.
Basically. Consumer boycotts for welton foods, while admirable and smth I do fully support, are probably just going to wind up hurting the store employees who already get minimal hours, cant have water at the cash w them, have to pay money if they want to wear a SWEATER TO WORK WHILE IN CANADA (you have to wear a PG or store brand sweater that costs 40 bucks out of your paycheck), and who are going to have to bear the brunt of the ire from the people still shopping there.
This doesn't touch on the people who use the loblaws, shoppers, or superstore pharmacies for their medication. These people don't have the ability to fully boycott welton corp bc of the whole "uses them for meds".
People also forget that it's not just these stores owned by welton. Theyve got shares and partial ownership basically anywhere you buy pc brand foods, alright. Its basically how i figure out who's owned by them. More importantly though, other grocers are doing the same shit, just getting away with it bc theyre a bit more subtle or bc the focus isnt on them. Walmart, metro, sobeys, price choppers/freshco, the list goes on.
Boycott, sure, but the thing we really need here is for the govt to actually take action and force these corporations to lower their prices on basic necessities, because people all over canada are being priced out of living, no matter what grocery store they're shopping at. We need active regulations on this, and that's never gonna happen if people don't push for it.
#idk man im tored#boycotts do work and are good for ppl who wanna stand for their morals and all#but the fact is the only ppl hurting w this are gonna be employees w cut hours and more verbal abuse#welton does more than just grocery theyre huge in the restaurant industry#so many hotels use them as their food supplier. same w hospitals#i know just in ottawa theres min 3 hospitals and 3 hotel chains that do.#minimum#thats not counting other things that arent chain and still do bc i know a few there too#i worked at loblaws and part of their trainin videos were abt how welton is in EVERY part of the food industry#like its insane

I think an important skill to develop is traveling alone. Or just doing things alone.
I often go to events or conventions in neighboring cities (neighboring in a canadian way, meaning 3+ hours of travel) and most of the time I do it alone. I take the car, bus, train, with my clothes and my books and my art and my cpap machine and always a book that I won't read, and I do the Event, sometimes I see friends, meet colleagues.
But there are many hours where I find myself in a new city, and I learned to make myself visit new places, go to cafés with a notebook or sketchbook, visit museums, get a pint in interesting pubs, eat yummy food at cool restaurants, visit the tourists traps. Take selfies and send them to mom.
And at night, I go back to the hotel room and I make myself a cup of tea (because I brought teabags from home), watch local tv, try to read the book.
Work made me travel to Ottawa, so yesterday I saw a friend but after I ate delicious fish and chips at an irish pub, today I went to a gaming pub and beat a childhood videogame for the first time, tomorrow I'll be flying in a WW2 biplane.
If I had to wait for the stars to align and for someone to do things with me, I wouldn't do anything.
So I guess as long as I can grab my little suitcase, my backpack and my cpap machine, I'll keep going to places. Qui m'aime, me suive.

November 22, 2023
Written by TMZ team
Her Royal Highness, Princess Y/n of Cambridge as well as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a surprise appearance at the Vancouver Canucks game last night.
The Princess has been on quite the anticipated tour, starting in Ottawa this past spring, heading east then ending in Victoria where she'll leave for later today.
Before the game the prince and princess had dropped the puck at the ceremonial puck drop, or rather not dropped the puck as Prince Harry had to be told to.
But it wasn't the prince's embarrassing story that's making headlines today, it's the Princess of Cambridge leaving with the Canucks captain, Quinn Hughes.
Hughes is an American hockey player, a couple years younger than our princess, but nonetheless we would love this couple together.
We know King Charles is never one to come become his children and love, we can only assume the King will be even more supportive than he was with the Duchess of Sussex. Hughes has never been married and on paper would make a great fit for our outgoing and adventures princess.
-
Quinn was on FaceTime with his brothers, they were in a hotel room in Michigan just having come back from their morning skate. Luke happened to go on his phone and see articles about his brother and the princess.
"Were you ever gonna tell us your dating a princess?!"
"We're not dating. That was my first time meeting her." The oldest said, rolling his eyes slightly, though his brothers ignored his obvious annoyance and continued their questions.
"And she came home with you?!" "Damn, Quinny!"
Rubbing his hand over his face, Quinn defends himself, "Shut up. It wasn't like that. We just talked, and got to know each other."
“Yeah? ‘Got to know each other’ how?” Jack said in his usual teasing voice with a smirk on his face.
“I don’t know, just talked- she’s coming out to Seattle in a couple days and-” “Shit! No way, dude.” Luke came into frame now, sitting next to Jack on the hotel bed. Jack elbowed Luke slightly, telling the boy to give him space before he looked back at Quinn on the screen, “And how exactly did you pull this off?”
“I have no idea, she was just waiting outside the dressing room after the game and asked me out. It was a little awkward ‘cause her security guys were right there the whole time.”
“In your apartment?” “No Lukey, outside the dressing room. They were outside the apartment the whole night though.” Jack’s head shot up at this, “She stayed the night?!”
“Yeah, but nothing happened. I’m not you.” “Fuck off.” “We talked all night and we watched a couple movies.”
Jack and Luke seemed to have got, maybe not exactly what they wanted, but got out all the questions they wanted to ask out.
