these absolute fools gave me SO much trouble. i changed each of their classes and/or aspects like twice while drawing this lmao.

pearle was going to be a rage player initially! i had her down as one for the chaos — yknow, ‘red’s my favorite color’ and all that. but the catch ended up being that in this au, as rage represents in-game chaos and bloodlust, it only exists while the game is in effect, and so rage players don’t have much dominion over stuff that happens after that period ends (which has all sorts of delightful implications for grienn’s character, but anyways). meanwhile pearle definitely continues playing and also grows as a character even in times of peace. i was thinking in terms of comparing her arc in double life to secret life in particular — ‘she left the tower’ and all that, yknow? she went from being terribly isolated and functioning on a completely independent scale, winning only for herself, to being a key member of a team and finding a purpose in helping them. which is pretty incredibly space-coded, in my mind! my personal qualification for space players is that they’re destined to be lonely, often physically separated in some way from others, for a while but not forever — because space is about creation, after all. and if you look at being a witch from the perspective of reinvention — what pearle manipulated or reinvented here was herself. she found her place in the story and the person she wanted to be. witches are also some of the most powerful characters in terms of specifically manipulating their aspect, i think, which is great because i’ve heard she's pretty great at pvp lol

ignore that martyn’s color palette is not particularly great it’s hard to unify the design of a character who is super rustblood-coded but also inextricably linked to the colors green and yellow of all things. i’ll redesign him later. anyways! at first i had thought there might not be any light players in this session — since light is about sort of seeing through the laws of the game and often deliberately defying them, as well as having a certain degree of control over narrative agency due to this. and because, yknow, the life series is a minecraft youtube roleplay series, realistically the ccs aren’t going to be playing any characters that go out of their way to completely ruin the game or refuse to play it by the rules altogether. but then i started thinking — and i don’t know an awful lot about martyn’s character so forgive me if i’m going a little bit off the rails here — does martyn want to understand? because if he as a character tries to understand and affect his destiny even though he’s ultimately limited by the nature of the story itself, then he could totally be a light player. so that’s where i was coming from here. think about how he won limited life in the end, for instance — not by playing into what the game itself had been leading up to, but by acting on and finishing his own story. he’s a knight because i do think knights are a certified Narrative’s Little Guy class — they persevere through so much pressure and often also have that sort of dual persona thing, both of which are particularly endearing to an audience. it’s hard work, keeping up with the narrative and fulfilling his own quest for understanding while he’s at it!! but he does it!!

renn is Such a blood player guys he is such a blood player ohhh my goodness. playing the game in terms of your relationships with others, right? basing how you go about it on allies and interactions, and being a leader above all else? i’d say that’s pretty ren the dog coded tbh. i don’t have too much to say here because i think seer of blood renn is pretty self-explanatory — he sees the entire game as a game of relationships and ties. he has a lot of knowledge about this field specifically, and shares it with his allies in the way he helps direct them and keep them alive. the reason he’s blood instead of light is because he puts his allies over knowledge, i think — he’s far too busy dealing with all that stuff to speculate for too long what the purpose of it all might be, and that would detract from his goal (of winning alongside others or dying nobly), anyway.

Okay I can’t explain why but The Curtis Brother’s I do read as white. (But like with every outsiders character I literally love ANY Ethnicity Hc you throw at them.) That being said I think that The Curtis brother’s have been luckier in certain areas as compared to some of the other greasers,especially given the time.But I don’t think they necessarily realize that growing up, but specifically Darrel.

Ponyboy hangs out with Curly a lot so he isn’t aloof to how Curly is treated by others. He picks up on the small micro aggressions and how he often gets off easier than Curly does, especially at school. Same goes when he’s with Johnny and Dally. It’s something he knows is there but doesn’t quite have the words to explain it. Sodapop I think understands that he has it easier because he gets that he fulfills the all American boy look. He notices this when first starting to work at the DX and how the customers react to him versus how they react to Steve. He knows exactly why they do that too. And Sodapop hates that this is the case but gets he can’t exactly change it. So he makes up for it by trying to distract Steve or making him feel better.

For Darrel..he’s not WILLFULLY ignorant it’s just that he’s had a busy life. Even before he took on his role as guardian, he was always busy with football,school, even Soc Parties. Then after his parents died, he got even more busy.I don’t think he’s quite processed what some of the other greasers go through.

I don’t think it fully clicks when he’s with Two-Bit one day. The two decided to go out shopping at the fancy grocery store, since Darry wanted to go big for Pony’s graduation party. Two-Bit is acting like usual and goofing off, in the process of trying to make Darry laugh.At one point though a nearby lady spies Two and automatically mistakes him for the help. Two-Bit being use to this simply smiles and politely tells her that he’s a customer there. Darry finds that weird at first but then things take a turn when one of the employee starts to follow Two-Bit around the store. Darrel is puzzled by all this and asks Two-Bit about it.Two-Bit shrugs and tells him it’s not a big deal because this thing always happens. It’s not until he says that does it click for Darry. When it does he also starts to get why Two-Bit acts the way he does. Why he often smiles and laughs during a tense situation, or why he doesn’t try to fight back during an argument. Because that’s his way of surviving.For Two-Bit this is just an everyday occurrence in his life, and something that he’s learned to accept long ago. It doesn’t change the fact that Darry is mad on his behalf and most definitely goes back to the same store later to chew out said employee.

bc i hc my shepards to be immigrants from a pretty much fully black place, they never rlly had to deal w the racism that was going on in america, so when they moved here and they started getting attached w all these labels, plus that language barrier, it was hard for them to really understand a lot of the things, so for a couple years, the shepard family wasnt really known and were just barely scrapping by

angela is fetishized and while she can use that to her advantage, at the end of the day, she as a regular human being isnt taken seriously and respected unless she basically demands it

and w curly, part of the reason WHY hes not taken seriously is bc hes not given the light of day bc hes seen as “not smart”, part of the reason why hes seen as not smart and not given the opportunity to prove himself is bc he is black

NOW when it comes to papercut and this issue, like u said, i do think the curtis, just dont exactly grasp it, but the shepards do, mainly angela and tim, they understand that how they look impacts what they can and cant do, and curly understands it too, but to a lesser degree, he just wants to be and doesnt want to care, but he doesnt realize that he cant rlly AFFORD to do that, bc it could mean life or death for him, couple that w pony not getting it as well, and thats where i think part of the weariness about this couple comes from!!! this is also partially y i demand more tim and angela being protective of curly☝🏽🤓

Ive been thinking about this, am I the only one whos kinda bothered when people say that ACOTAR was medieval aesthically while ACOMAF and onward are regency era/elizabethan/victorian/some other english time period? Like, again, im no history expert and this is all primarily vibes based, but the way I see it, the world of ACOTAR was already very aesthetically victorian, both the human and the fae part of it. Like, when Feyre leaves shes given this impractical dress with thin gloves and silly small hat, I dont know if she was wearing a corset which is like The thing that people think of when they think of that time period, but regardless, the vibes were all there, same goes for her sisters and their new mansion. And then in the fae world its like, Tamlin is living in a manor house, thats not exactly what I think of when I think of medieval times yknow. Honestly, I think when people say that ACOTAR felt more medieval while ACOMAF feels victorian, what theyre actually trying to express is the loss of whimsy between books, but that doesnt really have anything to do with the time-period its vaguely set in. The way I see it, Feyre was experiencing the victorian countryside lifestyle with tamlin and now that shes living with rhys shes experiencing the victorian city lifestyle, like the spring court and the night court are really not that different imo, except the way the spring court does the tithe is oddly medieval but I know that doylistically thats just to make Tamlin look backwards and archaic in comparison to Rhysand so I dont really feel like engaging with that on a deeper in-uinverse level if Im being honest

I will say that the men's clothes in both the SC and the NC do seem very medieval, but its like, 'commoner' medieval. Like, theyre just wearing normal ass pants that look like modern pants and then a shirt and then a garment thats kinda like a vest but it has a diffrent name, I dont remember what it is in english but in german its called Tunika. I bet they dont even wear stockings under their stupid modern pants! And its so annoying because its like, bro theyre monarchs, the monarchy is all about keeping up appearances and displaying their wealth whenever they can and stupid symbolism, thats why court clothing has historically slayed so hard, and here come these bozos, again, probably not even wearing stockings to emphasise their supple calves (although thats admittedly more 17th or 18th century iirc). And for Tamlin it atleast makes sense for his character, but we're told that Rhysand ascended to the throne when he was pretty young and that he actually wanted that unlike Tamlin, thats one of the reasons why hes sooooo much better supposedly, so how come he dresses like Tamlins slightly more goth cousin??

And what kills me even more is that I think actual 19th century european court clothes would suit Rhysand so well, like you know that style of suit with the shoulder pads with those weird little dangly strings, it has a kinda militaristic vibe and its often worn with a sash and a bunch of medals? Cmon, Rhys would absolutely slay that and it would fit his personality too. whatever, does he atleast wear something cool for Starfall? or for when he goes to reanact Feyre's sexual assault in the court of nightmares? Or is he just wearing that one fucking tunic thats just black but it has silverthreads worked into the fabric for thise scenes?? whatever, its midnight I gotta stop rambling about this shit and go to bed good nightttt

This is actually a great double feature to my last post which was specifically about comforting their partner on their period. That one was kind of more focused on their partner feeling physically unwell so this one will be more catered to their partner feeling emotionally unwell, if that makes sense and if that's okay.

Also, I'm sorry to hear you had a rough day and I genuinely hope you feel better. I don't think it's silly at all to ask for these kinds of things, we all have to do what we gotta do and happiness comes in all kinds of forms, so if this is one of those forms, I'm happy to be of service. Kazuma Kiryu

He understands all too well what it's like to feel down and out. Having said that, Kiryu won't try to cheer you up right away or distract you as he believes getting to the bottom of what's bothering you is more important. Regardless of it's a rough day at work or if someone made a rude remark at you, he wants to hear you out. He is THE best listener, he never interrupts.

His very first action always is to give you a long, warm hug. How often Kiryu wishes he could've been held during his darkest and toughest moments, so now he pays that forward to others who need it. If you cry, he'll tell you it's okay and to let it all out.

Now that you've gotten that all out, it's time for him to cheer you up. Nothing makes Kiryu feel better more than a hearty meal so he'll offer to get food at your favorite place, his treat. If you'd rather stay home, then he'll do his best to cook something up for you. Maybe Haruka and the other kids at Morning Glory will get in on it and clamber to help him out in the kitchen, which you can't help but smile at. You're truly surrounded by loving and caring people.

Majima Goro

Now, if the issue was caused by someone else, his first reaction will be to go give them a nice talking to a.k.a. kicking them really hard. If you're down with that, he will actually go do it but if you're not, he'll grumble and say "Fiiine... only 'cuz you said not to."

Eventually, his thoughts will turn to finding ways to make you smile. Majima is a bit more of a "forget your troubles" guy, sometimes more than he'd like to admit. If there's nothing particular that you want, then he'll just start trying things until you crack a smile at his earnest attempts, to which he'll say "Ah, there's that adorable smile!" before giving you a hug and a kiss.

If you cry, Majima will actually become quite serious. More than anyone, he's felt so many times in his life like he was on the verge of tears but he's always held them back. He'll drop everything to comfort you through the tears, quietly reminding you to take deep breaths and just holding you until it's over.

Akiyama Shun

He believes rest is the ultimate medicine, especially when you're feeling bad. Nothing works wonders more than a warm shower and a nice, long sleep. Granted, he is the king of being exhausted so maybe he's projecting just a little bit here.

As goofy as Akiyama can be, he's pretty good at hearing you out. However, he might be somewhat oblivious and slow to notice you're not feeling your best. Once he realizes it, he'll apologize for not noticing sooner and ask what he can do to help.

If some alone time is what you need, he's absolutely not offended. Akiyama knows when to back off and won't pester you and ask if you're sure you want to be alone. He trusts your intuition on that and won't put his ego before your feelings. After all, to him, that is the very meaning of loving someone else.

Saejima Taiga

Out of all the boys, he's going to feel the worst when he sees you're feeling down. Some part of him just feels bad that he wasn't able to prevent whatever it was that hurt or upset you. Saejima has major protective vibes and he'll always wonder if he could be doing more.

In the end, making sure you're okay is more important to him. Saejima is pretty mature and he'll be able to push through those weird self doubting feelings in his own time. He'll gently hold you but won't pressure you to tell him what happened. If you want to, he'll listen intently although he may not always know what to say in response, especially if you want advice, as he doesn't think his life experiences necessarily line up with most people.

Definitely the type of guy to say things like "I'm here for you, okay?" and really mean it. If you ever need a shoulder to cry on, Saejima is your guy. After all, he has giant shoulders.

Tanimura Masayoshi

His life experiences have made him very empathetic and he will be able to really connect with you if you talk about your problems verbally. Where he struggles is if you don't talk about it because he doesn't want to force it but also doesn't really know what to do unless he has some direction to go in.

If you don't want to talk about it, he'll just sit next to you in silence. He doesn't want to just fill the space with his words, so instead he'll just lean his head against yours, taking deep breaths with you. Tanimura will stay for as long as you need, just so you know that you're not alone in this.

He's down to get some food at Homeland once you feel ready to get back up and out there. Tanimura is very food oriented and nothing makes him feel better than a nice meal, especially since Zhao and Mei Hua are always so welcoming and kind. He has a very infectious smile and he notices that you light up a bit when he smiles, so he'll try to do something fun with you like eat food or maybe play a video game at his place. By the end of the night, you'll both be grinning ear to ear.

Ryuji Goda

Secretly, he's also a "Show me who upset you and I'll give them a real nice talking to" type of guy but he's better at keeping that under wraps than Majima is. Of course, if it's not a particular person bothering you, that's where he stumbles a bit. He's never been great at just talking about things, like giving advice.

He'll refute any thoughts of self doubt you have. Did someone make fun of your hair? "They were probably bald 'n ugly themselves anyways, the hell would they know?". Do you feel self conscious about your weight? "I'll have you know that yer damn perfect as ya are." Ryuji loves you for you, for better and for worse, so what he lacks in advice or long talk sessions he makes up for with pep talks.

He's the type of man to kiss your forehead and ruffle your hair while holding a box of tissues while you cry. Ryuji rarely if ever felt safe crying in front of others before and honestly wishes he had spaces like that when he was younger, so he takes care to make sure that you feel completely safe in letting those feelings out if you need to.

Nishikiyama Akira

King of self care. Self care is the solution to everything. Nothing makes it all better like looking AND feeling good. It might sound shallow but Nishiki tries to make it fun in some ways, like getting face masks with silly colors or faces printed on them.

Out of all of the boys, he's best at gossip. If you're someone who wants to go on a long rant about all the stuff bugging you, he's all ears. If someone in particular is bugging you, he'll interject with "Oh, she did NOT" or "They did WHAT?" every so often.

He won't ever get violent. He might feel frustrated that he can't really do more than just hear you out or distract you with something silly but that won't stop him from trying at least. If you have suggestions or things you want, he's all ears though.

Daigo Dojima

The gentlest boy there ever was. He's the most perceptive of all the boys, able to immediately spot if his partner is feeling off that day. He'll always ask you about it in private, making sure to never embarrass you, softly asking "Honey, are you alright?"

If you're at a work related function and it's obvious that you're overwhelmed, Daigo will excuse you both from the event early and bring you home so you can have a safe place to decompress. When he's at work and if he knows you've been having a bad day, he'll call from his office and say "Hey honey, I just wanted to see how you were feeling". He makes himself as available as possible, always looking out for your welfare.

Daigo is really in tune with your needs and quite attentive to the things that make you happy, the things that bother you, and the like. When you're having a bad day, you'll hardly have to ask for a thing. If you're a stay at home and lay in bed all day person, he'll bring your favorite drink in and sit on the bedside while listening to you talk. If you'd rather go out, just say the word and he'll be out front with his private car ready to go wherever you want as soon as he can slip away from work.

Mine Yoshitaka

He often feels helpless in situations like this. If it were up to him, every day would be the best day possible for you. He doesn't necessarily feel like a failure but he definitely feels your pain and sadness, wishing he could just magically make it all go away.

His best skill is reassuring you. If you ask if you're actually good at something, the answer is yes. If you feel like you're failing at something new, he'll say something like "The important thing is that you're trying, and I admire that about you". He's very steady in supporting you with things like chasing your dreams, no matter how hard the road may be.

He's probably the most practical when it comes to interpersonal issues, likely a direct result of his type of work. He's good at helping you iron out tough situations, like an awkward conversation with a friend. His deep understanding of you combined with his solid reasoning skills allows him to give you a pretty good outside perspective on those kinds of situations, provided you want him to of course. Mine wouldn't offer you advice without asking if you wanted it first. Also the type of guy to wipe away your tears for you.

Anyway, so I’m scrolling through my ridiculously long twt thread to get screenshots and clips and be reminded of important plot beats so I can talk abt them in the video and I’m reliving some of these moments and

Yesterday I was looking for the episode where May loses her second chance at winning the Grand Festival during the battle frontier

I found it and I rewatched the end so I could record the clip I wanted.

Ngl, that was one of the strongest emotional reactions I had during my initial watchthrough. May’s breakdown was just so raw and EARNED and idk I haven’t cried a lot in the last few months but rewatching that bit over a year later that same powerful emotional reaction came back and it was like. Really cathartic

Last year was a rollercoaster for me and the Hoenn gang (Ash, Brock, Max, May) was with me during a somewhat traumatic period of the year but I don’t think about them as often as I do characters from other regions (namely the Kalos gang who I have a nostalgic connection to). But god I miss them and that period of my watchthrough (but not the period of my life LMAO)

And today I was reading my tweets from the Sun and Moon and Journeys period of the binge, reliving all the touching moments and it’s really weird because I dont think I’ve really processed much of the latter part of last year bc it was another weird time for me (turning 18, getting my first job, starting my first year of college) and

I’ve scrolled through that thread so many times since I finished that endeavor. But it just doesn’t compare to actually going back to the episodes themselves and seeing the little details my brain forgot or my thread didn’t mention. In fact, I think because I made the thread my brain chose to forget about everything that ISNT in the thread because it takes up less space in my head that way, but now that I’m committing so much brainpower to it again and actually rewatching some of those episodes is finally actually taking me back to last year and helping me process some of the stuff that happened? Or I could be bullshitting but idk

I said once my binge of the anime was over I was going to do so many creative things in relation to it but I think by the time I was finished my brain had had enough and so I kinda moved on quicker than I thought I would, or even wanted to. But now I’m finally revisiting those creative ideas I’m being reminded of just how much that stupid adventure meant to me and especially the characters yknow

The May example is just one of them. There are plenty of episodes I could go back to and the same thing would happen but I’m not ready for all that. I was just curious enough about the May clip because I didn’t remember it and because May basically didn’t show up at all after Sinnoh aside from a few second long cameo in Journeys but Fuck. yknow what? i reckon the ghosts finale actually hit the sweet spot that a lot of 'they go their separate ways' endings kinda drop the ball on.

because i know i've seen discussion before, about how there can be a tendency to focus too much on the whole 'this part of their life is ending' among writers, to the point that it can end up feeling, as an audience, like someone... if not shouting, then at least repeating ALL THINGS MUST END uncomfortably close to your face, in a way that can even come off a bit patronising.

And how the degree of emphasis on that doesn't always actually ring true, because just as it's unbelievable that the setup of a show could go on ad infinitem, it's equally unbelievable that the characters wouldn't carry aspects of that period of their life with them. Like, y'know, that they'd never keep in touch remotely, or meet up under new circumstances, or travel to visit each other. That - potential energy, i guess? i think has historically been a bit under-explored, or at least i've seen frustrations expressed that it goes under-explored in some really beloved, character-focused shows.

but like i say, i think ghosts actually manages to strike that balance. we're not implicitly asked to believe that the Coopers go on to a completely new chapter in their lives, because instead there's an implicit acknowledgement that life-chapter endings often don't work that way. you're allowed to take bits of the past with you, and people exercise that right all the time, to choose things to carry with them and build on those fragments in a way that better suits their new existence. i feel like that's exactly what Allison and Mike do, with the hotel suite and regular visits - like, they're not subtle about the 'occasional visits to aunties and uncles' comparison.

there's something deeply cathartic, for me, about seeing that process of building, not just accepting an ending, depicted on-screen, and tbh something about the energy of it also reminds me of the ending to The Giggle. like, i'd LOVE if we're starting to see a trend where more shows Do Endings in that kind of way, where it feels true to life because it's comfortable with not feeling Totally Final.

bodybag + ttrpg thoughts it got longgg

i do think that like. i keep writing stories about how caring a universe can be and i really like transferring those characters to ttrpg settings or just settings with any kind of random outcome. ttrpgs are good in particular bc from now on i and im pretty sure the gm both want bodybag to succeed. like it is a hero in this story it is a main character with clear goals that would improve the world, however small, if they were met. by all accounts, bodybag is on the "right" path. its just that it has no way to understand itself this way. right now its objective is to find a person and thats really ALL it has going on simply because every other bridge to its past goals has been burned, the people killed, even settlements razed yknow? and the goal it has is good! that persons life would be better by at least meeting bodybag. its just that like we are not in control of that any more than it is. i looooove dice rolling in games bc as much as you want your character to succeed its out of your hands. and its like double bc the objectives bodybag has are not in line with the skills it has gained like even the knowledge gleaned from its past period of life arent going to be much help in what it wants to do. but violence and survival will always be a way out for it yknow? idk. its just so much about alienation and how cutting ties can be because those are things i care about and im pouring a lot of hope into it making it its just out of my hands. and thats kind of what it is about

theres also just like so much it has to reconcile in its own head too. like i dont have personality so sorted out but every response is going to be something so direct. i dont want to be reductionist and its not a stupid person but like forcing itself into the most simple solution is going to be instinct at this point. i will point out that its specifically not the most violent solution, bc thats not who it was. it likes direct solutions, and more often than not thats simply just scaring someone into doing what you want them to. its going to be like a process to learn that occams razor is kind of a fallacy. sometimes you have to take the circuituous route like it will not handle the start of the campaign and the end being so far apart well. thats going to be really fun to play with especially i think. a caring universe wants it to succeed on its journey it just doesnt understand that journey or really want it. i dont know. its so cool to me sorry for being such a big fan of my oc do you want to softblock me

Rex Raptor for the character meme?

THE CATALYST FOR ALL OF THIS

First impression: *9 year old Dana watching Rex Raptor beg for his life while the Seal of Orichalcos rips his soul out of his body* "this is going to fundamentally change my brain chemistry and i will think about it for the rest of my life."

Impression now: REX RAPTOR...THE DANA OG i have talked on it time and again but it's only because of him that I started really making OCs and then it's because of him and my OCs that i got back into Yugioh in the first place. He is the Big Bang. He's wonderful. Nichefav for two decades now. I may not be as DM brained anymore but he's still so so special to me.

Favorite moment: the aforementioned season 4 train duel against Joey really is just like. pivotal moments in Dana History. those three episodes are the world to me. it just shreds like hell even to this day. I also really love his Duelist Kingdom duel against Joey...Red Eyes was his dragon first yknow!!!!

Idea for a story: Often thinking about something exploring that period where Rex and Weevil were getting from wherever the fuck they were in California to Kaibaland in season 5. I like to think that period is when they first started formally 'dating.' they were having some Real Talks out there

Unpopular opinion: season 4 rex fan for life ✌ you don't know him like i know him. you havent been through what my brain went through.

Favorite relationship: I will be shrimpship until I die we know this. Weevil and Rex make each other worse and theyre soulmates and I love SO much. but I do also really like rex's relationship with Joey, and/or what it coulda been!! I think under the right circumstances, if they just talked some shit out, they could be really good friends....

Better late than never!

As promised, I am here to discuss my thoughts on Goodnight Punpun and Psyren, the first and second place manga that won my "What manga that I know nothing about should I get from the library" poll. I'm still not very far into either, just a few volumes cause I got distracted by catching up with some other things, but I am enjoying both so far!

As another note, I've realized I really, really enjoy reading physical manga! There's something about being able to hold the book in your hands that makes me appreciate the art and story more. Idk, I read a lot of digital manga (often because there literally isn't an English or physical version), so it feels special. Highly recommend getting something random from your local library so you can feel some kind of way like this too!

TLDR: sometimes it's fun to read something totally new! I plan on finishing both of these series and can't wait to get back to them after I've finished my current diversions :)

Psyren

Psyren is a pretty typical feeling Shonen with fun characters and a neat mystery/setting. While you've probably seen a lot of its elements before, they come together here in a really satisfying way! Volume 3 in particular got me absolutely hooked, and I've been really enjoying seeing the world come together and the stakes get higher.

For a quick summary, Ageha Yoshina is a typical rowdy teen who gets tangled up the urban legend of "Psyren," a world connected to Earth that only accepts a chosen few, when an old friend goes missing.

Both Psyren and Goodnight Punpun are from the mid/late 2000s, and Psyren in particular feels nostalgic to me. I love the use of flip phones and payphones, and the rumors surrounding "Psyren" is like something born out of internet culture from that time period.

My favorite character so far is the punk psychic classical piano star who acts as the main characters' mentor figure. She's great, and honestly it's hard competition because all of the characters are super likable. The flow of the story is fun as well - I like narratives where characters have to balance another world / another life with the one they currently have and I feel like there's a lot of potential to see Ageha deal with "school life" alongside fighting for his life in Psyren.

Psyren is a super easy read, and it's blend of familiar tropes with 2000s nostalgia makes it feel strangely fresh. The Earth of Psyren has a lot "fear" about the current state of the world, from climate change to the economy, so it feels relevant to today as well. I can already see Ageha starting to care about things outside himself and I watch him grow further! If anything from the above sounds like fun, I recommend giving Psyren a read (at least through volume 3 please VOLUME 3 IS REALLY GOOD!)

Goodnight Punpun

So right off the bat, Goodnight Punpun is not what I expected and it's a bit difficult to describe. It follows Punpun, a young boy whose family all looks like little bird creatures as he goes through the trials and tribulations of childhood. He goes to school, he has crushes, he hangs out with his friends. He can talk to god (the giant floating head of the author shown above). Yknow, normal kid stuff.

However Goodnight Punpun is absolutely not written kids. It's about kids and adolescence and growing up, but it doesn't hide any harsh realities - abuse, divorce, addiction, puberty, sexuality, religion, and more. These topics aren't fully understood by the kids but are very clear to the intended adult audience.

Honestly I was a little put off at first. The art, while extremely detailed and often beautiful, is sometimes quite ugly as the creator likes to draw most adults like caricatures. The story felt disjointed, the sense of humor is hit or miss, and the overall tone could be described as an "acquired taste."

But as I neared the end of the first volume, the pieces felt like they were really coming together. The little moments between the kids, the honesty of childhood crushes, the glimpses into character's lives at home, and the struggles the adults are facing really do add up into something... And the slight dip into "thriller" territory didn't hurt either!

My library only had the first 2 volumes, so while looking for places to read online I found that this series is actually quite well known and it has (or at one point had) a proper following. Near the end of volume 2 or 3, there's actually a bit of a skip in time, so I assume each "arc" of the manga will cover a different important time in Punpun's adolescence and maybe even teen years. If you want to give Goodnight Punpun a try, I highly recommend at least reading through volume one unless you are really put off by some of the subject matter.

As the first volume said on the back, "Punpun is a normal kid. He wants his crush to like him back, he wants to win a Nobel Prize, he wants to grow up, he wants to watch some porn. That's what he wants, but what does he get?" Well I want to see what happens to him and his classmates, and I really hope it's good things, but it'll probably be a mix of good, bad, and weird.

A: i think maybe scaramouche would fit this one? but i can’t even begin to conceive the idea of sacha liking him romantically, only ever platonically as a close friend or brother figure. i imagine that it wouldn’t be purposeful, they just happen to grow close via their connections with childe + them both being in the fatui. after sacha leaves the fatui, scaramouche ends up becoming wanderer— so he remembers sacha, but because of him wiping himself out of ( basically ) everyone’s memory, it doesn’t remember him. i never intended for them to be friends, but i genuinely can’t imagine them not being this odd pair of pals now, lol.

Q: if your s/i is used for multiple f/os, how would all the timelines look if displayed together?

A: currently i only ship sacha with childe & neuvillette, so it would be like three major periods: in fatui arc ( childe ) , post fatui arc ( neuvillette ) , fatui reunion arc ( childe ) , and then maybe a poly relationship afterwards. most of the time i think of neuvillette’s relationship with him as a short but passionate relationship that ends up being a tragic thing bc neuvillette is only an “ in between “ thing for sacha. he ends up going back to his “ true “ lover, childe in a good 80% of my thoughts.

Q: do you have several timelines in your selfship? if so, describe them. alternatively, do you imagine your selfship in different stages of the relationship?

A: i have a few different timelines! the “ main “ one or the one i operate in most of the time is a timeline where sacha leaves the fatui, becomes a famous conductor, has a short relationship with neuvillette, then goes back to childe. his backstory is consistent amongst all timelines btw, so i won’t get too much into it. secondary timeline is one where sacha stays with neuvillette. third timeline is one where sacha stays in the fatui & is actually the one to kill signora in order to prove loyalty to the tsaritsa + rise and become a harbinger. in this timeline i imagine he’d hunt after scaramouche for “ reasons unknown to even himself “ ( it misses his pal, basically ). childe still loves him but sacha is a lot more intense and freaky.. naturally. more timelines on the way, probably.

Q: what is your s/i's backstory? how does it make them meet your f/o(s)?

A: sacha lovell was found in the woods of fontaine by arlecchino & was adopted into the hearth program. he basically grows up in the fatui, being known for his beautiful voice in the chorus and his willingness to bite. also, it was found eating from a wolf’s carcass. his mother was dead in the snow nearby.

Q: any major changes in your selfship lore over time? if so, compare how it used to be with how it's now.

A: not really! no major changes because i like his wolf symbolism a lot. might play around with location ( snezhnaya instead of fontaine, maybe ) and time frames ( i imagine arlecchino to be much older than childe, so sacha’s adoption comes a little while after childe’s acception into the fatui, they grow up together ) ( sacha’s adopted FAR before lynette, lyney, & freminet in my mind ).

Q: any favorite reoccurring scenario?

A: i keep thinking of sacha going on dates to the opera with neuvillette,, like that’s their spot. they frequent it so often, they have their own personal seats practically. childe wise, i like to imagine them in the fatui as two older teenage boys who don’t understand that their “ friendship “ is like actually just a gay relationship. but it doesn’t matter! they don’t need labels yknow? there’s a playful innocence with it.

MY SPECIAL INTEREST IS (FASHION) DOLLS‼️‼️

I don’t mention it on tumblr much cuz I mostly use this for art, but I absolutely LOVE dolls and I always have.

I have a collection of 70+ dolls, but I haven’t counted them in a while so I definitely think it could be 80+ by now or more!! I should check again soon.

My favorite lines are probably Lol Surprise Omg/Lol Surprise Tweens and Lalaloopsy, but I love a lot of others too like Monster High (G3, mostly) and Rainbow High! I don’t have many Barbie dolls, i only got my first one around October/November-ish last year, but I have 4 now! 2 of them are newer (Perfect Day/Movie Barbie & 2023 Holiday Barbie), and 2 of them are older (Barbie In The Pink Shoes & a 90’s Barbie I found naked at a thrift store so idk who she was lol). I don’t like a lot of newer Barbie dolls bc a lot of the quality just,,, isn’t there, but I do want to collect more 90’s Barbie’s and late 2000s/early 2010s Barbie’s because she’s very nostalgic for me.

I love fashion dolls for so many different reasons. I’ve always been interested in fashion, and I love self expression. I love dressing super colorfully and over the top (when I have the energy too. Cuz yknow. Autism lmao.) So it’s fun being able to not only fill my room with dolls wearing fun outfits, but being able to mix and match things and create whole new looks is genuinely so exhilarating for me!! I don’t restyle dolls extremely often bc I don’t wanna ruin any dolls, but when I can and do restyle dolls without needing to worry abt that, they can become some of my favorites!! I think there might also be a visual stim factor to it, tho I can’t figure out if I like dolls bc they’re visual stimulating for me, or if they’re visually stimulating for me because I like them. But either way, I can pick one doll out for the day, take it with me wherever I go, and just stare at it and keep noticing new details in the face or clothing, or even just staring at my favorite parts over n over. And there’s definitely physical stimulation too, because I love feeling the fabric and the hair, and it’s especially nice if it has a good amount of articulation so I can move them around and pose them in different ways. And there’s so many other reasons I love them too.

I also often really enjoy the movies and tv shows that doll lines come with! Lalaloopsy Girls: Welcome To Lala Prep is genuinely one of my favorite movies, period. I like all the other Lalaloopsy movies too, and the Nick Jr show (I don’t really like the Netflix Lalaloopsy show tho). There’s also 2003 Strawberry Shortcake, which btw, had some absolute BANGER songs in some episodes. I’ve seen a good amount of Monster High movies by now, my fave is probably Ghouls Rule bc it focuses more on Jackson Jekyll and he’s my fav character <33. Ever After High is great, I never watched it as a kid, but even just watching it in its entirety like a few months ago, it’s a good show with some of the best digital puppet animation I’ve ever seen.

1. I respect long fic a lot, but 9 times out of 10 I’m a short fic girly - purely because I just don’t have the attention span for longer things most days, so reading anything other than a quick smutty oneshot feels like an impossible task 😅

2. hmmm… I read AU’s much (well,, it depends on the fandom) but I do love thinking about AU’s for certain shows! I can’t really come up with a specific one I like the most, but I feel like I typically lean towards something more.. idk how to put this… epic and different, like, not just a plain modern AU?? I don’t know how to say it, I just like something that puts the characters in a completely different world, rather than your typical bland coffee shop. Give me some medieval knights, some seafaring adventures, some howl’s moving castle, yknow?? Also, my favorite thing about AU’s is when they really perfectly mirror the same themes and character roles from canon but in a different world. Like, when you’re able to fit in all the relationship dynamics and character development from the original show into your new setting??? For example, I read a period ninerose AU once that had Nine as this rugged sailor meeting a Victorian-maiden-esque Rose, taking her away for adventure on his boat called the TARDIS, and I just love things like that where the heart of the story is the same but everything is altered! You get me???

3. I gotta be honest, I don’t typically read anything outside of my current hyperfixation, because I just won’t be motivated enough to care about it at all. But yknow, sometimes I’ll get a hankering for a classic old Doctor Who fic that I loved in the past, or maybe I’ll wanna read some Symbrock just for the ✨nasty shit✨ it does happen occasionally 🤷 just not very often for me.

4. I’ve actually never really listened to podfic! I think I tried it for like a half second once and immediately was put off, so I don’t think it’s something I’ll ever really get into, but who knows… might have to give it a second chance one day. It just weirds me out tho if I’m being honest 😅 there’s something so strange about hearing fic read aloud, I can’t help but cringe a bit personally - but of course I respect the hell out of anyone who does narrate fics, and if that’s ur thing you do you!!!

5. Hmmm… I have to think about this one…. Again, I think it depends on the fandom? When I was in my ✨Doctor Who Era✨ I ended up playing with a lot of longfic-esque AU ideas (that I never wrote, but they were fun to think about) so I could just play around with different genres and pretty settings. I can’t think of a specific genre I like the most,,, I think I tend to lean towards period eras and fantasy?? As far as tropes go, I honestly love angst and whump a lot 😅 Just “hey, what’s the worst physical and mental trauma can I put this character through so that they can be gently comforted”, lmao. I love fucking with character’s heads and putting them through some serious psychological shit. It’s fun :)

whenever i draw fanarts, the biggest satisfaction to me is when i was able to draw...an idea that is unique to the source material, something that i cant just simply recycle to ocs or any other fandoms, and especially, something fans of the source material can appreciate the most... its also something i knew i cant achieve with ocs. because at least with fanarts, at least someone get the context behind the art. i couldnt care less if im not drawing for a bigger or more popular fandom if i was able to share my love for something like this to the same people who love the source material as much as i do... im fully aware that my artstyle is not the most desirable. or the most social media-favored. or just anything thats worth being stared at anything for more than 5 minutes, haha. thats why i rarely post my doodles or rarely draw headshots because...i often find to look the most boring... but thats also why i really. tried really hard to get rid of my shortcomings by focusing more on the composition and "story" side of it over anything else. i tried. again. really hard to put my style in the backburner so the flaws of my unappealing style wont overshadow the "story" i wanted to tell in my art....

but yknow i just...feel like lately its all pointless hahaa...

so just when my mimi fanarts gets the most attention solely because it has mimi on it and not because of the art that i drew...im starting to ask...whats the point anymore if i even spend any extra time beyond just drawing the character. i might as well just draw the most soulless headshot or even stickman of the character and i'd guarantee it'll still get as much attention only because of the subject i drew. and the last important thing being...my art.... and this isnt just limited to one character or fandom, haha. every time any more replies to any of my art starts focusing on the subject over anything i put in the art, i knew that i failed to deliver the "story" i wanted to tell. at that point its starting to feel like...my art is nothing more than an accessory to a conversation starter. haha. i get it. my art isnt all that appealing. and my composition is still extremely amateur. but i guess no matter how much love and soul i tried to put in my art, it still doesnt matter if the subject is not creating any interesting conversation...

and its lately more and more apparent when i start to draw more oc artworks and obviously? theres less things to talk about now since theres 0 prior attachments existing with my ocs! :')

you could say that its mainly because im drawing for a small fandom. you could say its because i drew for a fandom where 90% of its contents is untranslated. but i just cant help but think...its simply because im still not good enough.....

i cant translate. im not fluent in any languages that isnt my mother tongue. im not the most talkative and hardly ever fit in any friend group. and every skills i have any inch of knowledge of is barely useful to anyone. and i know that i’ll never be remembered for anything. so i just....in the end, when i love something, the last i could do to say that "i love it" is to tell them with my art, despite its shortcomings and imperfections... but i guess thats...still not enough... to prove even that... :')

so just. haha. idk. even right now i kinda...lost all my motivation to draw. every single time i tried to i started to ask "is this even worth it?" and wonder if i shouldnt finish the art and put the bare minimum on it now, even if its gonna be the most soulless thing i've drawn. ultimately, a part of me just felt like i shouldve changed my priorities and focus starting this year. haha.

#while i dont mind ignoring this kinda stuff for a more lighthearted rp experience at the same time like #in my experience doing a bunch of homestuck rp with randos i Very Very Often came across a ton of people who DID acknowledge the casteism #but whose highblood ocs were exclusively just One of the Good Ones #and often these people hated if someone elses lowerblooded fantroll was like. even just naturally warier of their higherblooded fantroll #like it feels really weird to have casteism like THERE as an actual thing or theme in the rp that people are intentionally touching on #but then also not letting any of the bad bits in #i had one rp years ago that was heavier on this stuff as it was sburb but entirely alternian trolls. earth wasnt a thing there #it was still sburb but yknow you have that pregame period where everyones getting a feel for the characters and establishing relationships #and my bronze is talking to this indigo about a fiasco that went down regarding a gold #and my bronze says that the gold was justified in doing something and that they have to be more careful cus of hemophobia or something #i dont quite remember anymore i left the server #and the person rping the indigo sent this whole MASSIVE paragraph back to me detailing the indigos tragic backstory #topped off with a 'if you want to be treated nicely by highbloods maybe you should be nicer yourself!' type thing #but like not in a self aware way #like they WANTED to rp this highblood saviour and hated when their character wasnt assumed to be such #the entire backstory was like the empress herself wanting personally to hunt this indigo down because he invented the cherub portal (???) #and used other inventions to like. save countless lowblood lives!!! or something #and i was like... okay... but if i am gonna take this seriously...how would my guy know that #anyway like i guess its a do whatever you want and find rp partners that suit you thing. you can make whatever character you want #but ive always gotten annoyed at those types yknow #who want to include the casteism but only want their highbloods to be seen as the Good Ones or saviours #who preach about equal rights and stuff even if its to lowbloods #u get what i mean #i dont want my lowblood to be saved by your highblood. buzz off. #you can probably tell what the real life parallel to this is haha tho im not sure how appropriate making the comparison is #considering were talking about homestuck roleplay here #anyway tho. people who roleplayed highbloods who were at least a little hemophobic tended to have a better outlook #& were more pleasant to rp conflict with in general #this isnt even getting into the intricacies of free speech and internalised prejudice n all that
