Hello! This is a sex ed-adjacent question that may or may not be in your purview; I’ll send it along anyway if that’s okay :) I’m calling in with a sort of weird question about detangling shame from sex. For some context, I’m in a happy relationship and the both of us feel sexual attraction, but haven’t had sex in a while. That’s partly fine and partly a concern, if only because I have a high libido when alone, and can orgasm alone, but I’ve never managed to around my partner. While I think this is generally okay, and part of my worry is only because of societal pressure, I’ve been learning that I tamp down on my enjoyment of things in so many areas: media, in person events, hangouts with friends. I feel like someone is always waiting to laugh at me, and I feel the same during sex, sometimes. I want to be cool and sexy and have fun, and I often do, but sometimes I’m so scared about being made fun of (by who? Idk, god?) that I feel like my enjoyment is far away, and none of this is really on account of my partner. I know there’s no cure all to this, but I would like to like sex :’). Have you had any experience with handling this, or do you have any resources to point to on working with this? You do sex education, not sex therapy, lol, so I realize this may be totally out of your wheelhouse, but I haven’t had much luck in cursory googling nor do I have anyone to really talk to about this. it's fitting that you mention sex therapy, because I think this is actually much more orw of a therapy question than a sex question. it sounds like this is a gnawing insecurity that impacts far more areas of your life than just sex, and it will be far easier to address that issue broadly than try to trying to only apply it to your sex life. that's waaay beyond what I'm qualified or willing to handle here on tumblr dot com, but I hope you're able to find a mental healthcare professional who can help you tackle it.

From Proto-Swiric *(ə)bləke(?) > Old Swira ulke ‘skull.’

It is often paired with the (preexisting, not Lexember) word oru, ‘bone.’ In the common Swiric way of creating dvandva (exocentric) compounds, ulke oru (contracted to ulko:ru) ‘skull bone’ together refer to the entire skeleton. Furthermore, it refers to a structure or framework of any kind, whether made of literal bones or not. If someone asks “What is the skeleton?” of a thing, they want to know how it is organized. And orw-aku ‘fitting / joining bones’ means ‘to organize.’ (Actually, I made up aku this month, is it Lexember #16?)

In Swiric, bone, isa ‘blood,’ and karu ‘meat, flesh’ are regarded as the three most essential physical elements of a living being. The bones create the shape of a creature, the meat fills out the shape, and the blood (and breath, kawe ‘wind’) imbues it with life. In this viewing, they are not merely physical things but spiritual ones that define something. It is believed that ‘bones’ are inherited from the mother and ‘blood’ from the father.

(*Note: In some languages, the actual word isa or its cognates have been replaced by other words - probably due to taboos - but the new words retain the same metaphorical significance.)

In many languages, expressions of the kind of “the bones / meat / blood of X” are fixed patterns for forming a variety of abstract nouns, or the equivalents to abstract nouns in other languages. In general, bones-expressions are preferred for an abstraction relating to structure, and meat or blood for abstractions concerning content and essence. For example, the (wooden) frame for building a nomadic dwelling is known as its ‘bones,’ yupin oru.

Furthermore, expressions such as orukaru ‘bone and meat’ and orwisa ‘bone and blood’ are used to mean ‘the totality of something, everything about it.’
