So because I'm still working on refreshing my memory on things in the Bionicle fandom, looking through the reference books is quite the treasure trove of little nuggets.
In Bionicle World, a book written to seem like Helryx is writing it based on information collected by OoMN agents, I happened to notice something in the Metru Nui chapter.
Tumblr media
Now, according to the wiki, it's not unheard of for the characters in Bionicle to use family terms such as brother and sister. But for a species that can't reproduce, I find it interesting that this term pops up--from Helryx nonetheless!--as though they know what parents or mothers or fathers are.
This makes me wonder if--since she's the first Toa that was made--she might have learned about these terms from the Great Beings? After all, even when there's fighting going on all around them while the planet is getting ready to shatter, I'd find it hard to imagine that she hadn't noticed any Agori or Glatorian children running around or hiding (protective Toa instincts activating and the Great Beings having to stop her from rushing off to save them? 馃槀). Perhaps even one of the Great Beings we've heard nothing about had a kid of their own and had to do what they could to keep them safe from the fight by bringing them along!
I certainly have memories of when I'd go to work with my parents, so it's not hard to imagine this happening. But if Helryx understands this concept and the family terms are in their programming...would everyone else in the Matoran Universe have any comparison to understand what paternal means, or would they attribute it similarly to how Turaga (specifically the Mata Nui Turaga since we know them best) would treat and protect their villagers?
Would Toa develop a similar role/pattern of behavior as their Turaga, and it's like the Matoran have two sets of parental figures? Or would it be a clash of "Toa, can I do this?" "Ask the Turaga." "Turaga, can I-" "No." ?
And would Makuta refer to themselves as the mother/father of the krataa they create from their bodies, or would they refer to themselves as their creator? Considering that Teridax literally calls his krataa/rahkshi his "sons", it feels like a term he'd just throw around even though he literally commanded a horde of them to die to Sentrakh in Time Trap. >.>
I dunno, it's late, and my brain is getting tired 馃槀 Would love to hear a second opinion or two, though!

Helryx training Krakua
Tumblr media
I'm sure training with Helryx had to be very, VERY hard (Headcanon that poor Krakua almost had to fight for his life every time he trained with her)

Winged Messenger (Vanaki)
Tumblr media
I had for wanted to make a moc inspired by @bioniclechicken 's Winged Member designs for such a long time. The way they incorporate Piraka Spines into their torsos is so cool! Of course, this was made in Stud.io, so there's no way to get the spines on here...
And, here's a lil sketch i did while planning out the build! Funky little fellow...

My remaining checklist is as follows:
1. Get the remaining pieces for Tobduk
2. Get the remaining pieces for Krakua
3. Think about how only Johmak specifically is entirely absent
4. Cry
5. Take solace in the fact that I already own Jerbraz

Yknow when I first learned about av matoran I thought that takuas knew he was just an Av in disguise but because of the pods he forgot and thought he was a ta matoran. I also thought it was the entire av population that as disguised, and once that I realized that wasn't true I thought it was a volenteer type thing like "oh we need some guys to disguise, who wants to do it?"
But apparently the order of mata nui just KIDNAPPED a bunch of av matoran, BRAINWASHED THEM INTO THINKING THEY WERE DIFFERENT ELEMENTS, ERASED THEIR MEMORIES, THEN JUST SCATTERED THEM ACROSS THE MU

VUHIA, toa Mangai of the green (10/11)
Tending to the gardens that surround the great temple, Vuhia finds her position joyful and effortless. After fighting alongside her newfound siblings, she marked their victory by planting a vuata maca tree from her homeland on the mountain--a tree which grew so potent and full of life through her nurturing that the garden has long overgrown its original bounds.
Vuhia's quiet focus fits in well with the rest of her team, but she does what she can to make up for their distance and standoffishness. Any matoran eager enough to track her down in the vast temple garden is welcomed warmly, and the most dedicated few have become skilled foresters in their own right, helping Vuhia tend to the trees.
She wears the great Ouha, mask of healing, and wields a pair of Old Growth Trowels which see most of their use digging through the tough mountain soil. One day Vuhia and Tokat took a walk through the gardens, and what was thought to be them taking their time has turned into a mystery even their toa siblings haven't solved.

I just saw a post asking why the order of Mata Nui didn't send Teridax to the pit, especially while he was sealed away. I can't find the post to directly answer it but I believe that the order of Mata Nui likely suffered heavy damage during the great cataclysm which they had to deal with. Their headquarters were likely severely damaged which could've led to them not even knowing who comatosed Mata Nui. So by the time they knew who to send to the pit, Teridax was likely already on the island of Mata Nui.
Botar was easily killed by Icarax so if they sent him to Mangaia he would've been crunched by Teridax immediately. The Order knows how powerful he is.
Teridax's supposedly died in the mask of light and his survival wouldn't be known of until after the 2007 arc. At which point nobody had a clue where he even was, and when they did they couldn't fish him out of the core processor.

Y'know, most of the religion we see in the Matoran Universe is from the Matoran's perspective, all about their faith in the Great Spirit and status as Mata Nui's "chosen people," with most of our forays into other corners of the universe like Stelt and Xia showing a much grittier, more secular reality outside of that little Matoran bubble. But, given that 99% of the Order of Mata Nui was made up of non-Matoran species, it stands to reason that what we see is not well-representative of the status of faith and belief in Mata Nui in the MU at large. Other species and cultures had their own relationships with the Great Spirit that fostered devotion to him and his principles equal to that of any Toa.
I'm not really saying that I wish we'd gotten more focus on that, because honestly <10-year-old me would not have cared, but it's fun to think about now, looking back. So much of what we see beyond Matoran society, is the always warring Skakdi, the conniving Vortixx, the power-hungry Barraki. So it's kind of fascinating to think about how all of those groups and species would have had their own sacred practices, and members who go against what we see in the main story and believe fiercely in Unity, Duty, and Destiny.

So we know there are at least 5 confirmed, Great being-planned sentient species in the MU.
Matoran
Skakdi
Vortixx
Makuta
The Bahrag
There's a lot of bionicle characters who don't quite fit into any of these groups, so I propose 3 hypotheses.
1) Many of the non-matoran bionicle characters are sentient rahi made before the makuta went bad. (Like Krahka and Keetongu)
2) The order of mata nui just straight up commissioned a bunch of one-off dudes from Artahka (which would explain a bunch of one off characters whose species we never see. If he made the Toa Mata, he can probably make other guys.)
3) This is my personal favorite. The Great beings all separately & individually decided to hide their favorite blorbos and other creations in the great spirit robot for safe keeping before it took off. (Looking at you, Dark Hunters.)
